Theater Camp (dirs. Molly Gordon & Nick Lieberman).
What [it] gets so right is the very specific personalities and eccentricities of children deeply enmeshed in theatre culture and their young adult counterparts. There's so much inherent drama mixed with codependency in the name of putting on a show and chasing the high of a performance. Gordon and Lieberman's naturalistic yet heightened sense of artistic melodrama is hilariously on point.

Marta Del Rio Lends Her Avant-Garde Eye to KitchenAid Marta Del Rio has been styling and crafting some of the most memorable looks for artists and pop culture icons for years, from Lady Gaga to Billie Eilish and Paris Hilton. But she’s also lent her creative chops to consumer brands like Apple, Estee Lauder and Fendi, making her a fitting partner for new territory like kitchen appliances. This week, Del Rio is unveiling a stylish new project that’s been in the works with KitchenAid, the brand known for equipping kitchen lovers with all kinds of essentials. In partnership with Whirlpool’s in-house agency, WoW Studios, together they designed a capsule collection of seven one-of-a-kind designs inspired by KitchenAid’s most iconic products: the Artisan Stand Mixer and K400 Blender. Both products are being released in a new Hibiscus shade, which KitchenAid has named its 2023 Color of the Year. (Past KitchenAid Colors of the Year have included Beetroot and Honey.) Hibiscus, a vivid fuschia shade with a matte finish, was chosen for its nod to the Hibiscus flower and the global resurgence of maximalism."We’ve been tracking the evolution of the color pink since 2017," said Brittni Pertijs, lead color, material & finish designer of KitchenAid. “Beginning with Millennial Pink and advancing to deeper hues as of late, pink is bringing boldness to life in its color and energy. We took that as the spark to create Hibiscus. Hibiscus is a color that draws us to something exciting.” Del Rio’s collection, which will be presented on the eve of New York Fashion Week on February 9, features sculptural, strong and avant-garde (her signature) silhouettes and is rendered entirely in that Hibiscus colorway. It merges industrial and organic references with the distinct lines and curves of KitchenAid appliances.“KitchenAid is a brand with an instantly recognizable design language, which made celebrating the new Hibiscus color a natural fit,” said Del Rio. She also invited a group of New York’s emerging fashion vanguard to each create a full look inspired by Hibiscus as well as KitchenAid’s design language. The guest designers include Jackson Wiederhoeft, Tara Babylon, Tia Adeola, Bach Mai and Man Made Skins.“It was a pleasure to be able to invite five New York-based fashion labels to expand this core collection,” Del Rio adds. “Each of their custom editions for this project showcases their design hallmarks and celebrates the KitchenAid Color of the Year, Hibiscus.”STAND MIXER: ®/™ ©2023 KitchenAid. Am I OK? (dirs. Tig Notaro & Stephanie Allynne).
It's easy to watch Dakota Johnson and Sonoya Mizuno play vaguely queer best friends struggling to take the next steps of thirty-something adulthood while over-relying on each other for support and occasionally enablement. There's a loving messiness to the relationships explored in the film amidst a sort of urban malaise of everyday Los Angeles living. Everything adds to an altogether pleasant slice-of-life quality to the characters coming to terms with their own sense of self-discovery.

Spirited Trailer
Based on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Spirited follows Clint Briggs as the person who will be visited by the Christmas spirits this year. Much like Scrooge, Clint is not sold on the whole “ghost” thing. But the Ghost of Christmas Present will not be ignored.
Spirited stars Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, and Octavia Spencer. Sean Anders directs from a screenplay by Anders and John Morris. The film features new songs from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Maximum Effort and Gloria Sanchez Productions are producing.
Spirited releases to theaters on November 11, 2022, and to Apple TV+ on November 18, 2022.

'Booksmart' is an Instant High School Movie Classic
‘Booksmart’ is an Instant High School Movie Classic
Tumblr media
Looking back at my high school days, I wonder if I got into enough trouble as a kid. I was a good kid for the most part, a pretty good student, and was and still am a firm believer in karma. Still, a lot of my fellow classmates who constantly got into all kinds of mischief, some of which involved police involvement, seem to be doing much better in life than me. The other day, I read an article…

Following a competitive situation, 20th Century Studios has acquired the rights to an untitled Sister comedy from Gloria Sanchez with Awkwafina and Sandra Oh starring. Jessica Yu is directing with Jen D’Angelo, who recently penned Hocus Pocus 2, writing the script. Gloria Sanchez founders Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum will produce along with Itay Reiss and Maggie Haskins from Artists First. Gloria Sanchez’s Alex Brown will exec produce.
The news behind the project broke last year with Netflix landing the rights but sources say the streamer recently let project move back to the market with several suitors quickly making bids. 20th was aggressive early on and were able to land rights and are now prioritizing the project in development. The story follows a brilliant but tightly wound, Jeopardy-obsessed young woman (Awkwafina) must reunite with her estranged, train-wreck of a sister (Oh) when they’re forced to come up with the money to cover their mother’s gambling debts. The two embark on a wild, cross country trek in a desperate hope to win enough cash the only way they can think of—by turning our reluctant hero into a bona-fide JEOPARDY champion. Oh is currently in production on the fourth season of the Emmy-winning series Killing Eve. She was also recently seen starring in the Netflix dramedy series The Chair and was voiced a character in the hit Amazon series Invincible.
Awkwafina most recently was seen in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which made $431 million at the global box office. She next will be seen opposite Mahershala Ali in Apple’s Swan Song, as well as Renfield at Universal. Her Comedy Central series Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens premiered its second season over the summer.
