The Story of Morrígan
Tumblr media
Before the Tuatha Dé Danann roamed the land of the Irish, Morrígan was born into the farmer family of Ernmas as one of three children. None of them seemed to inherit special abilities and lived a simple life.
But there came the day that Morrígan and her brother Glonn played by the river. Morrígan hadn’t reached the age of ten yet and Glonn wasn’t older than eight. The water though was so deep that none of them could stand on the ground. The little girl had tried to run away from her brother but stumbled over a root and fell into the water.
The stream was too fast for Glonn to reach out his hand or a branch and so Morrígan got carried away and drawn under the water. Glonn cried out for help but Ernmas was too far away to hear them. By the time he had gotten his mother and returned with her to the river, they had already lost the hope for Morrígan to survive.
The bigger was the surprise as they found the girl lying next to the riverbed, surrounded by ravens who gently picked at her pitch-black hairs, the dress, and her fingers. First, the two wanted to shoo them away, but when Morrígan opened her eyes, her stare let them halt: It was like one of the ravens glared at them. She sat up and held her hands protectively over the group, declaring that they had saved her life and they shall be her companions from now on.
And so Ernmas and Glonn accepted the decision and thanked the ravens despite their restraint.
***
The three siblings grew older, all of them were distinguished by extraordinary beauty and grace, however, when Morrígan was old enough to be married, no one wanted to take her as a wife for the ravens never parted from her. She got depressed and watched how her siblings celebrated ree-raws at their weddings.
Eventually, at Glonn’s party, Morrígan was struck by her first vision. She had collapsed in the middle of a dance, the ravens viciously cawing on the branches. When she woke up again, she had been awestruck, frightened so much that she didn’t tell a word and left the celebration immediately. But her sister followed her outside to ask her what had happened.
Morrígan wouldn’t answer her right away, but Ériu didn’t give up until she spoke: The vision had depicted her brother’s death. She had felt it. They both agreed to not speak about it further, but the next day war with the neighbor kingdom was declared and Glonn was called for the battle. Morrígan was haunted by even more visions as soon as her brother had set forth on the journey, showing her a dozen other deaths.
Scared as she was, she ran away into the nearby forest, speaking to the ravens, accusing them to be the reason for all of this and that they had cursed her, but none of them would agree. They just stared at her. And from the look they gave her, she realized that they had been her only friends since they had rescued her.
The battle ended as she had foreseen it and by the time the lost souls wandered over the battlefield, Morrígan was drawn to them by an invisible force. She started to run as the urge grew stronger, ran faster and faster and suddenly she flew with her ravens. She couldn’t realize what had happened, but when she reached the field with the bodies of her dead people and her brother, being able to see their souls wandering around forlorn, she knew that she was destined to bring them to the other side.
When she returned home to her mother and sister to tell them the bad news, she got rejected. Her sister accused her of being a hoodoo and she was sent away. From then on, she started to live on her own and the rumors about Morrígan, the goddess of war, were spread.
Morrígan learned to live with her new fate and to improve her new abilities. She wandered the country for many years and found a new home at the court of the Dagda, where she finally gained the respect and honor she always had wanted.
***
Her reputation preceded her in the way that the naive druid Somairhle once called her to insult her and accuse her to have taken his family wrongfully. Startled as she was by this behavior, Morrígan declined and disappeared. But the druid wouldn’t stop summoning her over and over again. In the beginning, it was always the same topic, but their encounters changed slowly and his clever questions caught her interest. Moreover, for she had gotten bored by life at court.
They spent a lot of time together and eventually Morrígan fell in love with him. She decided to take advantage and seduce him, so they would spend a night together.—Which wouldn’t be the only one, however, Morrígan never really knew if he returned her feelings for he hadn’t admitted this affair to anyone nor told her that he loved her.
Eventually, when his apprenticeship was completed, Morrígan worked up the courage to ask him if he would want to be her official mate and join her at the court of the Dagda in Murias, but he declined and, instead, went on a run.
Devastated to be left alone again, Morrígan returned to the court which was all upset because they were in the middle of their move to Ireland. Nuada, together with his father had decided that they would expand their realm upon the island and therefore every helping hand was needed. Morrígan hadn’t taken part in the preparations so far, but she welcomed the distraction now.
Until the first battle of Magh Tuireadh. The weeks before, vision after vision haunted the goddess in her sleep until she decided to quit sleeping at all. Exhausted, aghast, and frightened of the upcoming great slaughter, Morrígan went to the river that parted the territories. The sight reminded her of the place where she and her brother had used to play as children. It was peaceful, but the peace was destroyed when Dagda joined her side.
She knew that he was longing for her quite some time, but since she had been with the druid, she never returned his advances. Today, however, she was too tired and too numb to care about it and gave in.
They spent the night together by the river and the next morning they headed to the battlefield. He and Nuada pleaded for her help, which Morrígan agreed on and took part herself, enhancing the morals of her men and frighten those of the enemy.
Dagda, though, had misinterpreted their night, and so, after they won the battle, he decided to announce their engagement. Now, she had to live with him for three months at least, before she could make use of the law of engagement to get separated again without becoming unhonored. But as destiny was unkind, the night she had spent with Dagda had been fruitful which she noticed on her last day of the engagement.
***
Her first son was named Bodb Dearg, which means Red Crow.—A reminder of the bloody circumstances of the night and day this child was created.
***
The marriage was unhappy and soon, Morrígan would learn that Dagda cheated on her occasionally. He became father to three more children whilst their time together. But she felt relieved because she didn’t need to share a bed with him anymore.
Time passed and the second battle of Magh Tuireadh came upon them. This time, they would lose even more warriors and Dagda was one of them. Nuada would continue ruling over the Tuatha Dé until the siege of the Milesians, where eventually he died as well. After the Tuatha Dé lost, they retreated to the sidhé, the realm beneath the hills which they separated equally amongst the greatest families. Morrígan’s son Bodb Dearg, though, was elected king of the Tuatha Dé and the Phantom Queen as she had been named in the last decade, secluded herself.
Morrígan returned to her more loved tasks as the sovereignty of the corn and cattle, as well as a goddess of fertility, and only occasionally wandered the realm of the Milesians or the Fir Bolg and Fomorians to collect souls of her own kind.
p r e s e n t   d a y
Over the centuries, Morrígan grew more and more bored with her tasks, so she decided to sneak herself into the mortal society from time to time, playing a variety of roles and people, ending up as a fashion model for Anthony Vaccarello.
The bio is loosely based on Irish folklore. I tried to give the events and characters an order/relationship that made sense to me and filled it up with what I found fitting as well as OC material.

King Charles III warns agaisnt Europe’s security under threat
Tumblr media
King Charles III called Russia’s war in Ukraine a threat to Europe’s democratic values in the first speech made by a monarch at the German parliament, but said allies like Germany and Britain can draw courage from their unity. Speaking mostly in German through the 30-minute speech, Charles underlined that “the scourge of war is back in Europe, the war of aggression against Ukraine has brought unimaginable suffering on so many innocent people.” “The security of Europe as well as our democratic values are under threat. But the world did not stand idly by… we can draw courage from our unity,” he added. Charles is on his first state visit since ascending the throne following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II last year, and his choice to travel to Germany has been viewed as a bid to build bridges following Brexit. In Germany, the themes of reconciliation and a future ahead forged by common values have featured prominently in his speeches. Charles has blood ties to Germany, but the two countries had fought on opposing ends during two devastating world wars. Speaking at the Bundestag on Thursday, he pointed to how far Britain and his hosts’ country had come in putting behind their conflict-ridden past as he underlined the common values they now share. “Together we must be vigilant against threats to our values” and face them down resolutely, he said. – Reconciliation – On Friday, Charles will take a further step in rapprochement by commemorating victims of allied bombings during World War II in Hamburg. Charles’ mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, had been a symbol of post-war reconciliation. It was World War I that had led the British royal family to drop their German name — Saxe-Coburg and Gotha — for Windsor. The war in Ukraine is a key part of Charles’ programme on Thursday afternoon, with a visit of a reception centre for Ukrainian refugees right after the Bundestag speech. He will also travel to neighbouring state Brandenburg where he will speak with a German-British battalion. A tour of an organic farm is also planned with environmental issues, which Charles championed long before he became Britain’s sovereign, key in his three-day programme. Among his first engagements on Wednesday was a reception on sustainability, where he met with Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Economy Minister Robert Habeck, both from the Greens party. On Friday, in the port city of Hamburg, he will tour a renewable energy project. Charles, who has visited Germany 40 times, has always made sustainable farming a part of his visits to the country. The monarch’s decades-long commitment to green farming has partly been nurtured by German professor Hardy Vogtmann, a leading voice on organic agriculture who became Charles’ advisor in the 1980s. During one trip to Germany in 1997, Vogtmann arranged for Charles to tour several eco projects in the western state of Hesse, culminating in Charles jokingly being gifted a bag of compost. On another occasion in 2013, the Welt newspaper said Charles was “clearly in his element” chatting to organic farmers and stroking a piglet on a field in Langenburg, north of Stuttgart. In 2019, Camilla joined her husband on a tour of an organic farm in Glonn, near Munich, where Charles gamely held a rooster in his arms. The British monarch was initially supposed to travel to France before heading on to Germany, but that trip was postponed in the wake of violent pension reform protests. Read the full article

#MillerntorGallery  <3
We had such a nice day at the Millerntor Gallery at Hamburg yesterday and as you can see on the first picture, I was happily surprised that my artprint for the Bundesliga game of the FC St.Pauli vs Eintracht Braunschweig was part of the Gallery, too. Hehe. For a full-hearted FC St.Pauli fangirl like me that´s a really great thing :D
I took some pictures of a few artworks, but I can tell you: Visit it on your own and see the great artworks of a lot of amazing artists, feel the spirit, listen to the concerts and be a part of some really nice benefit actions for important things like photographies against racsim by #ichgucklinks, for clean water for people in Africa by Viva con Aqua , to help refugees who run the risk of drowning at the sea by seawatch, etc.
Here you can find all informations about the Millerntor Gallery

What are some ideas that you're particularly fond of? I'm a fan of your magi-law posts.
If you’re referring to my own campaign premise posts, I’ve always wanted to have a serious go at running the romantic fantasy kingdom that’s somehow managed to become a representative democracy while retaining the trappings of feudal nobility, as outlined in this post and elaborated upon in this microfic. I have an inkling that it probably occupies the same setting as the anarcho-syndicalist Realm of Evil with its famously litigious spiders; that it shares borders with the Theocracy of Glonn and at least one cursed monarchy; that it’s where at least most of the adventure seeds in these two posts take place; and that its hero was once accompanied by a certain sacred maiden (and her friends).
If you mean other people’s proposed campaigns, I am 100% planning to run a game of Legends of the Wulin set in the world of @retroactivebakeries’ Seven Woeful Princes, if I can ever hack the system sufficiently to convince myself that it’s playable. Also, I can’t recall where I encountered it, so if this is one of yours definitely let me know so I can credit you, but I once saw someone propose a game of Pokéthulhu where there’s only one human player character, and all the other players take on the roles of their ‘thulhus – complete with the rule that they’re only allowed to communicate in-character by saying variations on their own names.
