Bad News, But Also Good News
So I heard back from Geek Squad this morning. It's the motherboard in my gaming laptop which needs replacing. Since I bought this one directly from HP Canada, not Best Buy, it's not a model they have access to get the part for, so they've shipped it back unrepaired.
BUT - the good news. Someone, I assume while they were checking to see if I was owed any rebate of the repair fee I pre-paid, double-checked its warranty status. Turns out I still have 25 days left on it's 3 Year Care Pack coverage, which I hadn't seen when checking the HP site myself, because it's on a detail page I didn't access - the summary I did see on my HP dash just says "details unavailable", which I thought meant there was no coverage. I bought it three years ago, I figured it had been 1 to 2 year coverage.
So the Geek Squad guy read me off the serial number for my laptop (since it's currently in transit from southern Ontario) and told me to contact HP directly for service. After a half hour or so spent with someone on chat^ they agreed that yup, sounds like it's probably a hardware issue, and are shipping me a shipping box to ship it in for service.
So it's going to take a while longer, but the laptop should eventually be fixed.
Also, since it was actually still under warranty? Best Buy is fully refunding the repair fee. Thank you, Geek Squad guy!
^ either a bot or someone with a script they had to rigidly follow despite whatever the customer told them - hello, the Geek Squad diagnostician says the motherboard is fried, I don't think holding down the power button for 15 seconds is going to cut it, but sure, yes, that was something I actually did do before sending it out for repair.
#Geek Squad#Who were both unable to but did help me#And my beloved#Darkomen Laptop#Which it sounds like I'm probably going to remain without#For up to another couple of weeks#Given turnarounds on shipping things

Hi! Eh, do you think that Adam is more hated by the fandom than Cinder? And if so, why you think this happens?
i think it’s an apples to oranges comparison because while adam is meant to be, ultimately, pitiable (in that he suffered, every mentor he had failed him or exploited him instead of actually helping him, and he chose to go down fighting for petty vengeance to the bitter end), from a narrative standpoint it was always quite clear that his character arc would end that way; he systematically burned every bridge and every lifeline he had and then literally ran into blake’s knife.
so the narrative asks for pity, the understanding that what happened to him is a tragedy—that it didn’t have to end the way it did, if he hadn’t slapped away every hand held out to him and ignored every warning sign that his path was self-destructive and would lead him to ruin—but not really anything more than that. there’s a tendency among certain kinds of villain fans to misinterpret other fans acknowledging the villainous role or acts or ending as character hate in and of itself—which it isn’t.
e.g. by no means do i hate adam as a character, but i understand what the narrative did with him (once-heroic fallen extremist whose ideals are corrupted to the point he turns abusively and violently against his own people, personal foe to blake and yang) and i think the narrative arc was executed well (broader white fang arc fumbling aside).
are there people in the fandom who do hate adam? yeah of course but i don’t think the average person in this category is out of scope as far as the intended reaction—to me the litmus test is just, can so-and-so recognize the textually-stated tragedy underlying his character, that he had opportunities to stop and refused each one? most of the time the answer is ‘yes.’
on the other hand, cinder is one of the two main villains and the narrative has not been subtle since v6 about setting her up for a villain -> hero arc—especially in v8 this nascent trajectory becomes very, very obvious to anyone paying a modicum of attention. which i don’t think is a comparable situation to adam with regard to this question because character hate toward villains gets way more intense when the possibility of a turnaround is evident enough for there to be widespread speculation about it—bc fans who don’t like the villainous character tend to really hate the idea of them, to be blunt, not getting punished enough.
(you see the same basic phenomenon playing out with ship hate, in that the closer to being unambiguously textual a given ship is, the louder and more vicious other shippers who don’t like it tend become.)
anyway. people who just dislike adam because he does awful things to characters they do like generally feel similarly about cinder for the same reasons; there’s an (obnoxious) slice of adam stans who virulently hate cinder and likewise a slice of (also obnoxious) cinder stand who virulently hate adam; cinder being a female villain gets the usual fandom misogynistic double standard and is judged much more harshly and punitively than male characters who do the same; the small fraction of people in this fandom who rabidly hate all the male characters of course rabidly hate adam (<- these people irritate me because they’re the same ones who burble about remnant being a matriarchy – #feminism is when you hate men and also can’t recognize systemic sexism against women unless it’s presented to you in an afterschool special caricature 🤔). on balance the misogynistic double standard represents a much larger swath of the fandom than the handful of people who expressly hate adam because he’s a man.
so like. just applying my test of ‘do you, regardless of whether you personally dislike this character, understand what the narrative is doing with them and why’ i see way more of what i would consider to be character hate directed at cinder than adam (and both pale in comparison to salem) but honestly if adam had survived and was discernibly on a path toward turning around i think it would be a lot more even than it is. jax vs cinder will be the more interesting comparison, if v10 goes in the direction i expect with him.

COMMISSIONS
TEMPORARILY CLOSED. i hope to be back in early 2025.
if you want to get your hands on one of my critters, a few options are available:
1) prints of existing models 60€ + shipping: if you want any creature posted in the catalog tag, this option is for you. mini catalog contains simple tiny sculpts that are 15€. we can discuss size, color, and paint options, or you can have a blank base. eyes and hair are included, clothing and accessories are not. if the post indicates there are fixes i need to make to the prototype, those fixes will be made before your doll is printed.
2) custom 200€ + shipping: a fully unique sculpt made to your specifications, printed and painted. can include hair and eyes, does not include clothing. i can make clothes for an extra fee, see this & this for some examples. a custom sculpt that involves your design [oc references etc] will not be sold to anyone else.
3) floating heads from any sculpt in the catalog tag 25€ + shipping, unique custom heads 50€ + shipping. includes faceup and eyes. can be any size, up to 1/3 scale.
maximum height for full dolls is 35cm. bigger prints cost extra, depending on size.
familiars also fall under catalog pricing, but are more flexible. they can be mixed&matched from all parts i've made, and colors can be whatever i happen to have on hand/am able to find. the tag for just familiars is here. you can also order a familiar with custom parts, costing 75-100€ depending on complexity.
all dolls are fdm 3d-printed in PLA. this means the following things:
they are very lightweight and reasonably sturdy.
there will be some layer lines and imperfections. i check the quality of every doll, but a 3d print will never be as flawlessly smooth as a resin doll or a mass-produced plastic doll.
they are non-toxic, though should not be given to children to chew on because they're entirely made of small parts strung together with elastic cord.
i'm not currently selling any digital files.
turnaround time is 2-8 weeks. keep in mind i am one person with one printer, so technical problems can cause delays. payments via paypal invoice when i'm ready to start working. bank transfer and mobilepay are also ok for finnish customers. i ship worldwide, cost depends on location; starting at around 20€ for eu, 45€ for usa, and somewhere in-between for the rest of the world. let me know where you live and i'll give you an exact shipping quote.
no returns or refunds & i can't take responsibility for any problems during shipping. if a part of your doll breaks (in transit or at any point after), i will replace it at the cost of shipping.
shoot me a chat message to get started!

Oh hey, another Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance trailer. Knew I should’ve staggered talking about the Full Armour stuff.
Anyway, given that I’m fresh out of RX-78’s to talk about (at least until we get some more information on the RX-78 Gundam Ex), I’ll have to do something drastic - actually discussing the trailer itself.
Gotta say, it is nice that we can finally get a good look at the mobile suits themselves now that they’ve got models. Regular, non-special Zaku II’s look nice, I’ll be interested in seeing how the proportions stack up. Also, those Gouf Custom’s near the end? Gorgeous. Really hope we get a HG of those (though I’m personally hoping for some unique accessories). I really, really hope we see Doms in this since they’re going to look absolutely beautiful.
I briefly misread the “11 months into the war” bit at the start as just 1 month into the war, and I had to go back and double-check. If it’s 11 months in then that basically allows for all kinds of great tech in place, and it also means that Zeon’s fortunes are going to change very quickly. Depending on precisely when it’s set, it’s either just before or after the Battle of Odessa, which is usually said to be the big turnaround of the entire war, and the beginning of the end for Zeon on Earth.
Character designs look good, I keep seeing the main character (I think it’s Illiya or Elise or something) as Nimona though, but that’s probably just me. It’s really interesting how much like a game it looks, it reminds me a lot of Gundam Igloo, but time will tell if it’s got that series’ charm.
“It’s the Red Wolves! They took out three fleets at Loum!” - The Battle of Loum is one of those things in Gundam where absolutely none of the information we are given about it matches up, so maybe take this with a grain of salt. I should note that Loum is the fight which made Char famous, as he was able to take out five ships single-handedly. The Black Tri-Stars also achieved great fame with their capture of General Revil. There are numerous other noted Zeon aces who made their name at Loum (or during the Earth drop operation), so there’s no harm in the Red Wolves being another. However, three fleets feels a bit implausible.
EDIT: Apparently this is a translation flub, and the intended line was “they took out three ships at Loum”, which makes sense.
(It’s likely emblematic how early UC was typically rather “realistic” with its numbers - a tally of three ships would be very respectable for any ace, and the title of ace itself was awarded after five kills - it sounds low, but speaks to how deadly these fights really were. But as time passes, it’s not unusual to see these numbers exaggerated in fiction. The absolute top aces of the One Year War have just under 200 kills, which would be on par with real-life fighter aces from the Second World War, which gundam’s aces draw heavily from).
Lastly, based on the general tone of the trailer, I’ll assume it’ll be shooting for a grittier take on the one year war a lá Gundam Thunderbolt, so it’ll be interesting to see how that all goes.

Fail Pirate!Eddie, Meet Your Competency Kink (Steddie Pirate AU)
🌊Under the Water (Our Hearts Will Dream Again)🌊
Chapter Three: A Three-Part Harmony
CHAPTER ONE // CHAPTER TWO // Chapter Four on 30 March 🌊
also on ao3
“I’m kind of wretched at this.”
Eddie sighs and honestly only keeps from tossing his fishing pole because Steve is nearby, and to risk harming Steve feels like a blasphemy he’d be committing against gods he’s never even heard of.
Because Steve is on a slightly-larger boat—not significantly, no one has any sudden burst of faith in Eddie’s abilities here, but it does hold two grown men and that’s an upgrade for certain—but Steve is with him, not quite a member of the crew proper but a member of something not-quite-nameable but oddly-universally-accepted (even the cat who pops up unexpectedly on board that no one can agree on whether it’s a demon or a ghost) as a member of the crew. His purpose is unspecified. His tenure undetermined. But his presence is taken as a given, now, and a quick turnaround with the decision for it, too. Eddie’d like to take the credit with his wordsmithery—Steve had escaped a painfully-forced marriage born of well-intended interference to stop a trampling, without knowing he was saving the governor’s daughter and securing her arranged betrothal in the heroics, and the only thing Eddie regrets about the tale is he truly maligned a nonexistent woman to make her unbearable, but it’s barely a regret at all, given how Steve had laughed like starlight when Eddie’d thrown theatrics into the planning, the man still half-dressed in a bed, and Eddie had never felt his heart thump quite like that sounds had managed before, but oh, it had only been a taste of what was to become commonplace—regardless. Steve had secreted the sympathies of the crew for the misfortunes endured for the wiles of women, and his presence was unquestioned, now.
To Eddie’s combined delight, with the constant risk to his sanity, not to mention—again—the safe and healthy cadence of his pulse in the man’s presence: the former holding most tenuous, while the latter being a wholly lost cause.
The delight, though, is worth both and more, at least tenfold.
He doesn’t even mind Steve’s smile, teasing but the sort as if they’re in on the honor together, and perhaps only together, something unique and secreted away for just they two: but regardless of Eddie’s whimsies, he doesn’t mind a bit when Steve grins at Eddie’s wholly accurate confession of being useless at fishing—obviously, though with Steve himself being the glorious and most wondrous kind of exception—and replies deadpan as anything:
“I’m aware.”
Which, oddly: one of Eddie’s favorite things about Steve is that he doesn’t try to placate Eddie with false comfort, but he also never mocks his ineptitude, in fact he frowns full-stop when the crew gets on a tear for it.
Eddie sighs in resignation, and moves to raise the line to try again, but Steve is quick, grabs it from midair and swings it in the blink of an eye to hold close in his palm.
Not-oddly, but very inconveniently, it turns bone dry in Eddie’s mouth merely for the show of skill.
“Your bait is poor,” Steve proclaims, thumbing around the worm that…looked fresh enough to Eddie’s wholly-untrained eyes; “and your hook,” Steve tuts, taking the metal between his fingers and bending it, squinting at his handiwork before humming and handing it back.
Eddie thinks perhaps he needs a break. A breather. A…moment to collect himself.
He hadn’t realized just how arousing competency was for him, before this moment. Certainly an indictment of the caliber of man he’s shared a ship with thus far.
But when he takes his seat, he nearly yelps when he doesn’t look, doesn’t think as to where he looks to take his rest, or better: what sits uponthe surface already.
Because Eddie, he…
He never steps aboard a vessel of any sort, without a shell to hand.
He huffs a little laugh, rubbing at the bit of flesh at the flank of him it bit into, and raising the conch he’d ferried aboard in the morning smile at, only catching Steve’s questioning gaze when Eddie lifts it by rote, pure muscle memory, to his ear.
“My mother,” Eddie breathes into the golden-hour, watches the waters sway like they just want to move, to live in the warm glow; “she told me that this was how the Sea shared its secrets,” then he drops the shell only to catch it near his hips with a flip, a little trick he’s mastered; a little desperation he’s never shaken: never let a shell fall.
Never once, since—
“My drunken father set me straight to tell me it’s just the echo of your blood pumping in your ears, he taps his chest, then the lobe of his ear, sucks his cheeks inward as he tips his head knowingly; like it’s silly, but also like it hurts. Like it still hurts.
Eddie lets himself breathe in the golden air a little more, like a steadying hand in the more reflective calm along the surface of it: the waves themselves that shift around them, that seem to take cues and give hints back and forth with that air in a sparkling champagne dance: they’re not steady, save in their constancy.
But how are they anything but grounding, when their motion meets the motion beneath the surface of every man, the waves of his own beating blood: how is it anything but homecoming and soft stillness?
It is that and more for Eddie, always, and so he breathes, and he breathes, and he can speak again:
“I know he meant to ruin it for me,” Eddie nods to the horizon line, but it’s strange, or else just new: Eddie’s awareness of his surroundings is decent, had to be with his upbringing, but the way he’s aware of Steve’s presence isn’t even something he has to try for. It’s just…it’s just there, and was from the start.
So he knows when Steve steps closer.
He lets himself take the steadiness from the air, and the water held inside it; lets himself have one more deep breath, then.
“But from the day he said it, it felt even more magical, more perfect,” Eddie confesses, he thinks for the first time out loud and there’s no why he can pinpoint, just an urge natural, like the Ocean’s dance, to share this thing that sits in his chest and weighs his every move, left or right, forward of aft; “because why did it have to be one or the other? Why didn’t the fact that I heard my own heart mean the Ocean was moving in my veins, too,” and his eyes have slipped closed in that way that lets you trace lightning-lines behind the lid-backs, and he smiles as his palm rests against the center of his chest while he breathes, breathes:
“Secrets and life-sparks alike with every beat,” Eddie takes to drumming against his own ribs from the outside like a duet, save no, no it’s a three-part harmony, the sweetest in the cosmos: hand, heart, and the mighty whisper of all the Sea’s confidences.
“The waves,” Eddie exhales, just to breath in the sweet brine of the expansive waters, a balm to every part of him; “I always,” he shakes his head and massages his chest a little, hard enough to feel out the bones: “it’s not even that it just soothes me, or makes me feel,” he sighs, and opens his eyes, looks upon the majesty before him, and, and—
He thinks he feels a majesty not so different, not lesser and maybe not wholly separate in Eddie’s own chest, having taken yet another step closer while he’d left his eyes shut.
“It feels right,” Eddie looks behind him, over his shoulder; Steve is close, and the sun is catching his eyes fit truly to glow from within and Eddie will swear for all time that it’s the almost otherworldly shine that pulls the words further from his lips:
“I always imagined falling in love would feel,” Eddie starts, nearly whispers, drags his stare from Steve’s eyes but that just leaves his gaze to fall square on those lips, slick for no reason and so plump and dark that they do no less than the man’s eyes to steal Eddie’s breath, make the last of his words more motion than sound:
“That love would be the way I feel when I hear the waves.”
Eddie turns back to stare at the endless Sea for a time, then, and breathes, breathes, breathes—depends upon the familiar scent, and taste, and weight on the air to right him.
It works, a little. Because in the same moments: Steve doesn’t move. Remains; steady on his own.
“If the Ocean had a heartbeat,” Eddie finds himself murmuring almost without thinking, almost solely from his own heart, propelled by its own beats; “I imagine this,” and he breathes in deep for it, because it is whole truth, and no exaggeration, when he speaks of it the same as love: “enrapturing, this,” he gestures at the expanse of the water, the way peaks of foam, momentum rises a little higher, now, but somehow do not shake their boat one bit.
“Power beyond power,” Eddie shakes his head, in wonder now; “encompassing,” and he takes in the scene of it, never once less than the first time, always also newly profound, and then he pauses, feels Steve closer beside him, if only just, and chuckles. Does not blame the sun for the way his cheeks flush as he huffs:
“I sound fairly heartsick, don’t I?”
Because he does. Maybe he is. Steve, in his goodness, does not mock him. Is steady, and yet, his presence seems to give around Eddie’s somehow. Like some imperceptible dance.
“Though I do think, should I be lucky enough to stumble across another love?” Eddie adds, and knows full well it makes him sound no less pathetic with it all; “I hope their heartbeat makes me feel like the Ocean’s,” and he does hope that, he hopes that with all that he has, but then alongside:
“And also that they’d forgive, even if they couldn’t understand,” Eddie breathes a little quieter, now; “how I gave my heart to the water years ago.”
Because any lover would always need to understand: he was meant to be with the Sea.
He doesn’t actually know how long he stares at the waters before he laughs at himself and turns fully back to his companion.
“Apologies,” he bows his head, but Steve merely stills, his confusion painted on his features.
“Whatever for?”
“I have to sound mad,” Eddie points out, no question in it whatsoever; “and that leaves you stuck on a boat with a madman,” he laughs again, but Steve?
Steve doesn’t.
“I’ll tell you once more, as I told you the first time,” Steve considers him carefully, oh-so-serious; “I would never say that I am stuck with you.”
And if that doesn’t light something stunning and warm in Eddie’s breast, he’s not sure whatever could hope to. He feels himself flush, blames the feeling and the dying sun—their time waning—as he moves to busy himself with the pole to try one last time to secure a single fucking fishto take back to the ship.
“Is that how you cast a line?” Steve comments playfully as Eddie reels back to toss, but stops with theatrical offense before handing the pole to Steve pointedly.
“You do better, then.”
“Alas,” Steve shakes his head, palms out to decline as he wanders to the edge of the boat; “I don’t fish.”
“But you know,” Eddie doesn’t ask, because Steve’s critiques have not been idle. The man has knowledge—
Then Eddie’s crying out, because Steve’s bending dangerously unbalanced over the boat toward the water both hands beneath the surface, feet barely set aboard and Eddie does not wish to lose him to the waves again, it was frightening enough when he had no sense of the man; he cannot imagine losing him now—
And then the wet plop of a dozen…fish. They’re fish, wriggling but not like they would at the end of a line, just…there, out of their element, and then:
“Like that,” Steve breathlessly nods, dropping four more fish from his hands as he springs back full-footed into the boat and nods at Eddie’s abandoned fishing pole; “I don’t fish like that.”
Eddie thinks he’s allowed the moments he spends simply staring; gaping.
“How—“
“Just a skill,“ Steve merely shrugs; “we learn it where I’m from.”
Eddie would love to know where in the whole of the entire world summoning fish into one’s bare hands is a common skillset.
“They are not of sickly stock,” Steve insists, as if he needs to, as if there’s some modicum of distrust where none has existed from the very start; “not touched by what ailed me upon arriving here, I swear it.”
And Eddie wants to ask, wants to know what harmed this man, what brought such perfection in his low—still perfect, still blinding but pained, harmed, to the point where even when Eddie knew nothing of him he was pained in kind but know, Eddie aches to think of Steve come to any harm.
And yet he is curious.
“They seem almost,” Eddie takes a fish in hand—the perfect size and weight, impossible; “almost docile.”
Then Steve is close at his shoulder, and when he speaks Eddie feels it on his skin; Eddie’s heart leaps and takes to racing:
“Fish don’t have intelligence such as you and me,” Steve explains simply, voice a low heady rumble so near; “but they’re not stupid, and they’re not ignorant of the way the cycle of life turns, and their part within it.”
And in every way it sounds fanciful, child’s-play: but from Steve’s lips, with the conviction of plain truth in each word, Eddie believes beyond sense at all.
“They’ll taste sweeter this way,” Steve bends to help gather the catch together; “so long as they’re cooked well,” Steve adds the caveat with a playful raise of his brow; “a burnt fish is a burnt fish, no matter how gently they’re caught.”
And skill, charm, taste: Eddie is almost too busy falling just that little bit harder for the man as he nets the fish for transport.
Almost.
But then Steve’s back at his shoulder, and his voice is still low but the rumble is pressed where his chest grazes the line of Eddie’s spine:
“Do you know, that the human body is mostly water?”
Eddie didn’t. Doesn’t. Can’t barely breathe; only half-gasps shakily with all the air that remains to him.
“Is it?”
“Mmm,” Steve hums, and Eddie doesn’t move, cannot move, but he thinks if he did Steve’s lips would brush his neck just for the nearness of the sound.
“So you were always in the right, then,” Steve whispers to him, but it feels like it echoes through his entire frame nonetheless:
“Your heartbeat does have some of the Ocean inside of it.”
And Steve pulls back, finishes gathering up their catch, but Eddie.
Eddie’s heartbeat’s pounding hard enough that it’s a damn good thing his heart’s not in the Ocean, in kind, because he’d fucking capsize them both in a second, and he worse: he doesn’t have the breath in him like this to even hope to survive the depths.

Fluffy February Day 29 (Late BUT Done!): Fresh
SWTOR
Time: Anytime after SOR
~~
C2-N2 was most gratified by the Captain’s latest adjustments to his boards. They were most appropriate to his current task. They would also be utilized in other similar operations during the year (leading the task force in cleaning Odessen seasonally, and yes, he was the head of that task force. It was the greatest honor a Hollis could have imagined.)
She had given him the ability to hum.
Yes, the notes were regimented and perfectly on pitch, with little variation beyond his synthesized voicebox. Yes, the songs were limited to ten (10), and she’d have to find a memory card expansion to store more without infringing on other vital operations.
That all said, C2 could now hum. He did not care for whistling; other droids could whistle, mostly as an error notification or a “look at me!” demand. Master Coros Riggs whistled, regularly, but it suited him. C2-N2 didn’t think whistling suited him; it suited astromechs or perhaps a gonk droid. Not him.
And so C2 hummed as he began the spring cleaning of Virtue’s Thief. All was quiet, and soon, the ship would be in top condition, at least in terms of the interior. He had already opened all of the viewports to permit the fresh, cool air of Odessen to filter in. The ship was empty, for now.
…unfortunately, he had not anticipated the chaos of the day to begin so early.
The pounding of feet across the catwalk was his first signal that his task would not be completed today.
The Captain knew she’d fouled up his plans the second her boots crossed the threshold, and she smelled the lemon-scented cleaner he always used. “C2! Ah, hell, I’m sorry, but the Thief’s gotta fly.”
And then everyone burst past her as the entire crew: Corso, Risha, Bowdaar, Akaavi, and Guss, plus Lord Beniko and Agent Shan, piled onto the ship for the next adventure
“Watch your step --!!”
“AIIIIEEE!”
“I need all of these viewports shut for launch!”
“He put my toolkit up out of the way – Bowdaar, get it for me!”
“…I need to change. I hit the bucket.”
“If I dragged your ass around the ship, we’d be able to mop the floor for him.”
“Have you ever considered using lavender and vanilla? Might add a calming effect to this place.”
“That would be false advertising, Master Tuno.”
“Ehhh, we’ve done worse things.”
“Can you tell him it should be a fast hop? One pick-up, minimal shooting if any, then right back home.”
“I can’t believe they demanded such a fast turnaround on the decision and the execution.”
“Welcome to Alliance, Lana, where we do things that the Republic won’t and the Empire can’t.”
“…bloody hell, I’ll make tea. It’s 1600 anyway.”
“I’m still flashing red lights on the viewports. I need them shut or this is gonna be a real fast trip into the void.”
…
…
C2-N2 hummed as he did his best to tidy up one small piece of the ship’s interior at a time. Today, it would be the lounge, the one vacant part of the ship at the moment. The Thief would eventually be fresh this spring… but there were always delays, every year.
And C2 did not mind.

RULES.
going to try and keep this pretty simple & straightforward.
I. You must be 18+ to interact with me. I am 42 years old.
There will be not safe for work content on this blog of the sexual and potentially of the graphic violence nature. I do tag everything that might be triggering and am happy to tag whatever you ask me to so long as I remember!
I ask that you tag any visuals containing spiders with spider tw* spiders tw* arachnophobia tw* etc etc and yes, I know it’s a weird one but anything about the taste of soap or eating soap is a trigger so just tag it with soap tw* or penny don’t look* as I have that blacklisted too. I don’t have any triggering fcs or what not.
II. This blog is multi-ship, multi-verse, crossover & au friendly.
Every ship is in its’ own verse unless previously discussed with all parties. Every thread or set of threads takes place in its own universe unless previously discussed with all parties.
III. I write anything from one-liners to novellas, it really just depends on life, my headspace, how much sleep I’ve been getting, how much else I have going on in real life, etc.
IV. My activity is NOT consistent. I am infamous for blog hopping. I have literally replied to some starters / replies two years+ after they were originally written. I am not fast. If I am fast, it’s by some small miracle and perfect storm of brain, muse and free time. It will not last.
V. I have kids, cats and dogs; I am in college, I have a household to take care of and I have many physical and mental handicaps that can affect my ability to function and write, including but not limited to rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, ganglion cysts, torn meniscus, migraines, hypothyroidism, PMDD, nerve damage, herniated disc, ADHD, depression, anxiety, C-PTSD and severe insomnia.
Roleplay is something I do for fun.

VII. I am fine with plotting things out in advance or winging it. I really don’t care, whatever you are more comfortable with is fine with me.
I like all kinds of plots. I like fluffy things, slice of life, broships, frenemies, enemies, familial, found family, long arcing, one shot throwaway, dark and twisted, you name it plots. I will not write n*ncon or anything nsfw themed /even hinted at with minor characters and I won’t write any explicit child death etc. but most everything else is fair game.
VIII. You can throw a million memes at me any time you want to.
IX. You can throw any and all starters at me any time you want to.
I’m not necessarily mutual exclusive but I don’t guarantee I’ll respond to memes or starters from non-mutual blogs.
X. I use icons, headers, promos etc. that I make myself 99% of the time. Please do not use any of my edited graphics. All base icons I use are free and available on my resource blog.

We Tried Cyclopure's PFAs Water Test Kit: Results & Review
We’ve used the Cyclopure PFAs water test kit to test samples of tap water in Steamboat Springs, CO. In this review, we’ve discussed our own experience using this test kit, including the sample-taking process, turnaround time, test results, and more. We’ve also shared whether or not we think the test was worth the money. Our Rating★★★★★ Cyclopure Water Test Kit PFAS If your budget is smaller but want to test for as many forever chemicals as possible, we think the Cyclopure Water Test Kit PFAS is the ideal testing kit for you. Price: $79 Type: Lab Test Test Kit For: City/Well Water Analytes Tested: 55 Turnaround Time: 10 days Free Shipping: Yes 🧾 Overview of Cyclopure PFAs Water Test Kit The Cyclopure PFAs Water Test Kit is the most unique water test for PFAs that we’ve ever used. Rather than sending a water sample to a laboratory for testing, the idea is that you collect water in the container. The container filters the water and the small extraction disc grabs the PFAs. The filtration process took around 20 minutes for us (it’s gravity-based, so things really slow down towards the end). We could then send off the extraction disc to the lab. The test can be used with any type of water, including municipal water, well water, and even surface water, like river and lake water. It tests for 55 PFAs compounds, which includes 21 precursors and all the PFAs currently listed under EPA Methods 533, 537, and 1633 draft. Price$79TypeLab TestTest Kit ForCity/Well WaterAnalytes Tested55Turnaround Time10 daysFree ShippingYes Overall, our experience using the Cyclopure PFAs Water Test Kit was great, and we found the instructions clear and easy to follow. The actual sample-taking process was very user-friendly, but it took quite a long time. The 7-day TAT was pretty standard for a lab test, although it might not be ideal for you if you need to get a PFAs reading of your water ASAP. The test report wasn’t the most comprehensive or interactive we’ve received, but it was clearly laid out and provided all the most important data. 👍 What We Like - Easy-to-understand instructions - Test is quick and easy to follow; user-friendly - Don’t have to send a water sample to the lab - Comprehensive report highlights 50+ different types of PFAs detected - Good turnaround time - More affordable than other PFAS test kits we’ve used - Can be used with any treated or untreated water source 👎 What We Don’t Like - Sample-taking process is time-consuming - Small risk of inaccuracy due to user error - Test report could be more comprehensive ❔ What Is Cyclopure? Cyclopure is a science and environmental engineering firm that developed a water treatment media that’s effective in removing PFAs. The same DEXSORB® media that removes PFAs in Cyclopure’s water treatment systems is also used to extract PFAs from sample water in the company’s PFAs testing kits. The organization is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. 💡 Our First Impressions Our first impression of the Cyclopure PFAs test was that it’s a little on the expensive side, but still pretty affordable for a laboratory water test. We got the test for $79, which is a bit steep given that the kit only detects one type of water contaminant. But we identified a few reasons for the price in our research: - It’s more comprehensive than most similar tests - It detects multiple different PFAs compounds (50+) - It uses a revolutionary sampling method that eliminates the need for shipping a water sample Price aside, the Cyclopure website provided all the information we needed in the product description. Quite a few water testing websites miss out a lot of important info about the testing process, but Cyclopure seems to be pretty transparent about what exactly you’re paying for and how the testing process works. We could order the kit with just a few clicks. 🛒 The Ordering Process Although the Cyclopure PFAs test is technically a service, we could buy it just like we’d we’d buy any other product online. There were two buying options that we could choose from: - Click “Add to cart”, then click “view cart” to be taken to the checkout page - Click “Buy With G Pay”, which bought up our Google Pay details (including a pre-saved address) for faster checkout On the checkout page, we entered the following information: - Our name - Our shipping address (to send the test kit) - Our email address (to receive our results) - Our card details - How we heard about Cyclopure We could also review a summary of our order, including the cost of the test and additional shipping costs, at the bottom of the page. Once we’d entered this information, we clicked “Place Order” and completed the transaction. An email confirmation was then sent to the email address we’d entered within a few minutes with our order details. With the order process done, we now had to wait for our order to be processed and the sampling kit shipped to us. 🧪 The Sample-Taking Process If you’ve ever used a laboratory water test before, you probably had to take a water sample and ship this back to the laboratory in a vial. The Cyclopure PFAs test is different. Rather than taking a sample of tap water and shipping it to the lab, you do an element of the testing at home. The test used a technology called DEXSORB®, which extracts PFAs from your water sample using a process known as adsorption. That means you can send off the extraction disc to the lab, rather than the water sample. Looking for more info about the sample-taking technology? Cyclopure has shared a couple of spec sheets for DEXSORB®, which you can find here. We received our test kit a few days after ordering it on the Cyclopure website. It was packaged in a cardboard box, which contained the following equipment: - The instructions booklet - A report card for our sampling information - The returns label - The water collection cup with built-in extraction filter in the bottom - A pair of disposable blue gloves Be careful not to damage the box - you’ll need it to return your sample. We followed the instructions in the booklet to take our water sample. Here’s what the process looked like: - First, we put on the disposable blue gloves (this is to prevent accidental contamination of the water from your fingers). - Next, we filled the water collection cup to the top and held it over our sink. - We then had to wait as water drained through the extraction filter in the bottom of the cup. - Once all the water had filtered through, we put the lid back on the empty collection cup and secured it back inside the box. - Finally, we filled out the report card with information about our sample, including our city, state, and zip code, and the date and time that the sample was taken. After we’d taken our sample, we stuck the included returns label over the shipping label and took the kit to our local UPS. Cyclopure covers the returns shipping fee, which we found pretty handy and time-saving when it came to sending off our samples. What did we think about the overall sample-taking experience? It’s a novelty - we haven’t taken a sample like this before. The instructions are easy to follow and it’s very difficult to get it wrong. We also liked the fact that we wouldn’t have to send water back to the lab, which seems a bit risky. Issues We Experienced There were a few unique issues that we experienced when following the sampling process. None of these were dealbreakers and nothing affected the results we received, but we want to mention them anyway because they’ll help you to get a clear picture of what to expect. First, we were concerned about contaminating the bottom of the cup if we put it on a surface, so we held it throughout the filtration process. Having to stand around holding the water collection cup for 20 minutes was a bit boring. Maybe accidental contamination from setting the cup down isn't an issue because the collection disc is higher up inside, but we couldn’t be certain because this wasn't explained in the user guide. Another unique issue we experienced was that a few small slivers of cardboard from the internal part of the test’s packaging somehow came detached. One bit of cardboard was inside the collection cup when we filled it with water. We didn't try to fish it out because we were concerned about further contaminating the water. But we were worried that the cardboard might throw off the results. Luckily, it didn't, and the only PFAs compound detected was from another source. This may have been a fluke with the packaging in the box we received, but it’s still something worth being aware of. Plus, we noted that there was a risk of contaminating our sample if we touched the extraction disc or didn’t wear the gloves. But we think this risk is pretty low as long as you follow the instructions correctly. 💡 TAT & Our Results After mailing our water collection cup to the lab, we waited for our results to be sent to our email address. In the meantime, we received an email when the lab had received our kit, which gave us a few helpful bits of information about our test results. We learned that: - Our test results would be delivered within 10 business days - We’d receive an email with an attachment that identified our results For reference, we sent our test on December 14, and we received the results on December 21. That meant our turnaround time was 5 business days. So no, the Cyclopure PFAs test doesn’t deliver instant results, and this wasn’t a problem for us. But if you have a reason to be concerned about dangerously high levels of PFAs in your drinking water, our advice is to drink bottled water until you get your results back. 📊 The Report We received a report in PDF format, which we could download to review on our computer or phone. The report listed the concentrations of 12 different PFAs that were tested for by the lab. These were: 11 types of PFAS compounds: - PFOS - PFOA - PFBA - PFPeA - PFHxA - PFHpA - PFNA - PFDA - GenX - PFBS - PFHxS 1 additional PFAs compound: - MeFBSA The report made it super easy for us to see which PFAs compounds were detected in our water because they’d been highlighted in yellow. Only one compound was detected: MeFBSA. Underneath the results table, there was some regulatory information about PFAs in Colorado (where we tested our water), as well as information on the EPA’s PFAs regulations. This was followed by an appendix table, which listed all the PFAs compounds detected by the lab’s analytical methods, and their abbreviations. What did we think about the test report overall? It’s clear, simple, and told us everything we needed to know about PFAs in our water. But it’s not the most exciting report we’ve ever received. We’ve been spoiled by Tap Score, which offers interactive reports and makes every other lab testing company’s test reports seem pretty boring in comparison. We also wish the test report contained information about the specific type of PFAs detected in our water, its possible health effects, and how best to remove it from our water at home. 📩 Email Follow-Up The email we received with our report was generic and looks like the standard email that gets sent to all customers when their test results are returned to them. But we then received a follow-up email from the owner of the company, Frank, who reached out personally to add an anecdote about the PFAs compound detected in our water and provide some additional information. We’re not sure if this is something that Frank does regularly, but we definitely appreciated the insight given that our test results themselves didn’t give us any specific information about this compound. Frank gave an explanation of MeFBSA, which was useful since it’s not one of the better-known PFAs compounds and we’d never heard of it. He added that MeFBSA is associated with ski wax, which makes sense since Steamboat Springs is a ski town. We appreciated having this extra insight and understanding into why our water might be contaminated with this type of PFAs. 🗃️ The Importance of Our Data So, why exactly do we need the data supplied by Cyclopure? There are a few known health effects of PFAs exposure according to emerging studies. These include: - Damage to the immune system and liver - Birth defects and low birth weight - Increased risk of kidney and testicular cancer - Increased cholesterol The good news is that according to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), PFOA and PFOS levels have declined by 70-85% in human blood from 1999-2000 to 2017-2018. However, as our Cyclopure test demonstrated, these aren’t the only two types of PFAs that exist. And, as the report notes, it’s possible that as these PFAs were phased out and replaced, our exposure to other PFAs increased. We’re yet to come across a DIY or at-home water test kit to evaluate our water’s PFAs concentrations. PFAs have properties that mean they can only be detected with specialized equipment. We were also looking for more precise testing than we could get from DIY test strips, and the Cyclopure PFAs test fit this description. It’s likely that a less comprehensive laboratory test wouldn’t have detected MeFBSA in our water. It’s not one of the better-known PFAs, but Cyclopure’s wide-ranging coverage meant that the compound was detected in our water. ✅ Results Accuracy The Cyclopure lab analysis process is validated to EPA methods and quantifies to a 1-2 PPT (parts per trillion) level of accuracy. However, it’s possible that a user error might affect the accuracy of your results. Some examples of possible user errors include: - Not recording the sample information - Not following the test instructions - Contaminating the inside of the sample container or filter These setbacks can be easily avoided, and they’re not unique to the Cyclopure PFAs test - there’s always a risk of accuracy issues with any type of water test that involves taking samples at home. Just make sure to follow the sampling instructions carefully, and you won’t go wrong. 📲 Online Support We didn’t personally have to use Cyclopure’s online support because our sample-taking and testing process went smoothly. But we still want to mention your options in case you need to contact the customer service team for whatever reason. Cyclopure doesn’t currently have a live chat setup, which we were a bit disappointed by. It’s becoming more and more common for lab testing companies to offer live chat support, but Cyclopure is still a relatively small brand, so we’re assuming that there isn’t enough demand for this service. To contact the company, we clicked Contact at the bottom of the Cyclopure website. This brought up a contact form, where we could fill out our name and email address, and type our question into the box. Responses are sent to the email address you entered into the box. We tried reaching out to Cyclopure using this function and received a response within just under 12 hours. The Cyclopure website also lists the following contact information for inquiries: - Phone: (312) 639-5009 - Email: [email protected] 🔎 Can We Trust The Cyclopure PFAs Test? One of the key factors we consider when determining the trustworthiness of a testing company is who owns the testing labs. This is an especially important consideration for Cyclopure, which sells whole-home PFAs removal water filters, so it’s in the company’s best interest to make you believe that you need to remove PFAs from your water supply. From what we can tell, the Cyclopure tests are carried out in the Cyclopure lab. There are references to “our lab” in the product description, suggesting that Cyclopure has its own testing laboratory rather than outsourcing the testing to a third-party lab. But the company has a good reason to conduct the testing in-house: it uses Cyclopure’s own proprietary resin to trap PFAs substances. The manufacturers at Cyclopure created the entire process themselves, and there is no other company that can test for PFAs like this. So, outsourcing to a third-party testing lab isn’t an option. We were able to find a reassuring third-party indicator of trust: Cyclopure’s lab analysis has been validated to the requirements of EPA Methods 533, 537, and 1633 (draft). They also follow “instrument procedures for internal standardization and calibration”. 🤔 Do We Think The Cyclopure PFAs Water Test Kit is Worth It? In our opinion, the Cyclopure PFAs testing kit is worth it for folks who want to comprehensively test for many of the PFAs compounds that are most likely to contaminate water supplies today. We think this test is the best fit for folks who want an easy way to extract PFAs from their water at home, without the risks associated with shipping a water sample. It’s a great option if you have a flexible budget and you want a breakdown of the PFAss in your water. We appreciate that you don’t have to actually test your water at home, and we found the sample-taking process easy. That said, there are some scenarios where this test might not be right for you. If you don’t want to stand around waiting for water to filter through the sample cup, you might prefer to use a test where you can simply collect a water sample and send it straight to the lab. It totally depends on how much you want to spend, and your preferred sample-taking process. Read the full article

Got the okay to respond to this, so here we go.
So the reasons it's controversial boil down, in my experience, to three things:
Backlash against those who use the scene as evidence of how the Jedi were bad people; the 'should have' implies 'wouldn't have.'
The assumption that they were informed of Anakin's status as a slave before they were introduced to him.
The assumption that they were not planning on helping him at all, and would not have.
The first tends to mean that calm, rational discussions get skipped because of bad prior experiences. This post by @david-talks-sw sums it all up pretty well, but you probably already know all of it. Still worth touching on, because it contributes to this being an actual controversy instead of just a talking point, unfortunately. It is, in fact, my kneejerk thought when I see that you phrase it as "should have helped," because it implies that they not only didn't, but wouldn't have.
Next is the point of Anakin being a former slave. There's no point on screen where the Council are told of how Qui-Gon got Anakin. You could claim that he told them, because it's a basic piece of information and a major element of the adventure on Tatooine. However, it's equally likely that Qui-Gon was keeping that detail to himself, to avoid pulling up a major discussion on his somewhat questionable actions on Tatooine (gambling for the freedom of a slave, gambling the entire Nabooan ship, threatening someone with Hutt justice), because the hours that discussing Qui-Gon would have eaten up could have been used on arguing Anakin's case instead.
Whichever it is, we as the audience don't know. We do know that in Legends, Qui-Gon arranged for Shmi's freedom by sending her a valuable item that could be traded for her. It's unclear in the text if the Council is aware of his actions, but given the phrasing (which you can find in that post I linked), I get the feeling Qui-Gon did this independently.
Ultimately, a basic assumption in "should have helped this 9yo child slave" is that they knew he was a slave, and they very well might not have known until after Qui-Gon's death. They could have! But we don't actually know that they did. At any rate, it seems like they considered Anakin to be under the guardianship of Qui-Gon Jinn as Finder until something else could be arranged.
And finally, whether or not they did, or would have, helped.
In the vacuum of the movie, we have a timeline that contains a lot of variables, where something could be hours or could be days, and we just aren't informed one way or the other. What we do know is that the timeline is relatively tight. The turnaround from 'Padme finishes up with her Senate business' to 'we return to Naboo' is pretty much immediate.
So, between the Council seeing Anakin as being a ward of Qui-Gon's until otherwise arranged, and the amount of time that was spent discussing the possible return of the Sith, the possibility of a Midichlorian Messiah, and the sheer urgency of Qui-Gon once again leaving, it's entirely possible that their approach to 'this child needs to have care and education arranged, even if it is not with us' was to put it off until Qui-Gon, Anakin's legal guardian, had the time to sit down and discuss it. As one of their own had removed Anakin from his parent, the Jedi Temple would have been responsible for either returning him to that parent (which they wouldn't have realized was a problem if they weren't informed of his being a slave; and would have addressed once they had time if they were informed), or arranging for non-Jedi schooling and housing, like a boarding school on Coruscant or through the Naboo delegation that had partial responsibility for him.
I am of the opinion that they would have helped Anakin, had they known that he needed it, but between Qui-Gon's generally secretive nature (he's a bit of a bastard, after all) and the time crunch, it was simply delayed.
There are holes in this, but no more or less than in the movie itself (like Anakin going to Naboo at all), so I feel that it's an entirely reasonable interpretation of the scene, even if it's not the only one.
TL;DR: While it's possible to interpret the relevant scenes as the Jedi refusing to help Anakin, it's also reasonable to interpret as them simply delaying arrangements due to the situation on Naboo, possibly fed by a lack of information from Qui-Gon. This basic difference in reading the text is exacerbated into controversy by existing tensions in fandom interpretations, and in this case the controversy element rests heavily on the 'should have' part of the statement.
I like the Jedi, but TBH, I’m always kind of stunned that the idea of “This group of twelve adults whose mission is to help people probably should have helped this 9yo child slave” is such a controversial take in fandom.
