cassie sandsmark star jorts from issue #23 of yj98 you have always been famous to me

I made these jorts in 22 hours over the course of 3 days! pure willpower via my love for cassie sandsmark because I am a total novice in sewing and i am still not very good at it. (i really just combined various tutorials and improvised on measurements and then regretted improvising measurements later on).

I thrifted these jeans last year for cassie vibes (even though I had already made her star-spangled red bellbottoms at that point) and wasn't a fan of how they fit + I couldn't figure out how to style them. I enjoyed sewing in the panels to flare them out and then everything else (cargo pockets and sewing in stars) was hell <3

the pockets are not placed well (nor are they particularly well-made), the hem is uneven, the stars are quite janky (and I think I stitched on too many), I probably stabbed my fingers a million times, and I am so in love with them

OBSESSED with how lorelai calculatedly says the most inflammatory thing she can think of in order to stop chris's parents from targeting rory. this woman is standing in a tank of starving sharks and she dumps the chum bucket over her own head the instant straub makes her daughter uncomfortable. she doesn't cause a scene for no reason; she strategically weaponizes everybody's low expectations of her in order to stop straub from attacking rory and encourage him to attack her instead. and it WORKS. and she just sits there takes it. i see your daughter is just as out of control as ever, richard. but lorelai doesn't care what straub says about her because that was the point; she wants to him to come after her and forget that rory is there. if you'd attended a university as your parents had planned, and as we planned in vain for christopher, you might have aspired to more than a blue-collar position...you might not want to take such a haughty tone when you announce to the world that you work in a hotel.

and then she sends rory out of the room to safety and she sits there and continues to take it. she seduced him into ruining his life. she had that baby, and ended his future! and it doesn't matter because they're chewing on her and not her daughter and that was the point. she played them. they fell for it. and it doesn't mean that the things they say don't hurt her, because they do. it means she's willing to let herself be hurt in rory's place.

you can see the tense disapproval on lorelai's face when the group turns expectantly to rory like they're waiting for her to perform some kind of circus trick, and even though the gilmore grandparents + chris do it out of genuine admiration and pride, they don't understand how terrified rory feels about being asked to demonstrate genius on-demand in front of people who are already judging her for being born. rory looks reflexively at her mother with HELP written all over her face, and one needling comment from straub is all it takes for lorelai to offer herself up as a convenient (and familiar) punching bag.

So, I'm struggling to find a better picture, but I'm really unimpressed with what they did with the Grid Kids today...

All the boys are in F1 t shirts. All the girls though, are in F1 Academy T-shirts.

F1 Academy was supposed to be about closing the gender gap in motorsports and giving opportunities to women to get on the ladder, but more and more I'm seeing increasingly messy messaging that seems instead to be perpetuating gender stereotypes and intentionally or not, creating a Barbie & Action Man type scenario that seems to imply that only girls like F1 Academy whereas F1 is for the boys...

thinking about tim singing along to his "90s-early 2000s dad" playlist while driving his kids to school bc it used to calm them down when they were little

wendy now pretends that this is embarrassing, but she still lightly stomps her feet to the rhythm and she secretly knows all the lyrics; jackie is so used to it that when he gets his own car on his 17th birthday he starts doing the same thing (even the songs are exactly the same; it actually helps him focus while driving)

every time kon happens to ride with them, tim purposefully puts on more love songs just to be able to flirt with kon with his eyes only, and every time kon is like "dude you're driving and we have kids in the back, i really can't blow you rn" (only with his eyes, too)
