A Gintama episode a day keeps the ending away…Episode 143

Episode Title: Those Who Stand On Four Legs Are Beasts. Those Who Stand On Two Legs, Guts, And Glory Are Men

MY 14 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN EPISODE 143 (manga chaps 220, 221 and 222):

I get weepy every time I watch this episode. Even though I already know everything that’s going to happen and even try to prepare myself from getting emotional, it doesn’t matter, I still cry at least three times.

1) First cry. I’d have to be a soulless monster not to feel anything from seeing Kagura in such a vulnerable state.

2) This poor Hyakka member...she was so terrified of Kamui. I really felt for her. Obviously, he didn’t since he killed her anyway.  As much as I love him, I still have to admit Kamui’s pretty shitty most of the time.

3) I know he means well in his own twisted way, but I’m sure his victims just feel more horrified upon seeing him smiling at them right before their death.

4) Tears starting up again here but I’m able to hold it together though barely...

5)...things get really shaky here for me cuz seeing Hinowa trembling with emotion trying to hold back HER tears is enough to make me want to cry, but I’m able to hold it together yet again...

6) ...and here’s where I lose it for the second time, especially seeing the way Hinowa’s shoulder is trembling. Hurts my heart so much.

7) Gin-chan making a pretty awesome show of power; that door was not exactly made of cardboard.

8) If only Sacchan was around, she’d probably pass out from happiness from hearing that. She’d no doubt assume he was thinking about her.

9) Third cry. 

10) This is absolutely not my favorite moment cuz I really do not like Housen, but I just wanted to point out how ridiculous his gigantic umbrella is, obviously he’s trying to compensate for something with that thing, and also his tendency to strip his shirt so that he can show off his stupid muscular upper body is also kinda pathetic as well. You don’t see Kamui needing to do exhibitionist shit like that. 

11) I just love how effective this scene was in showing how Gintoki was just a breath away from buckling under Housen’s power and being crushed like a bug by him. 

12) Again, as I’ve said many times before, there really is no way Gintoki is just a mere human being because he should have been so dead from just that one attack alone. He’s gotta have some Utsuro blood in him and it’s driving me crazy that that hasn’t been a reveal yet.

13) I cheered, and then wished Gin-chan had shoved Tsukky’s pipe in just a little more so this old pervert could have been lobotomized. I wanted him so dead for the damage he had inflicted on Gintoki. 

14) Not that I ever thought Gintoki could be dead (even though I did still scream first time I watched Housen kick him through that wall), but Seita’s reaction never fails to make my tense up in anxiety for at least a second or two.

SHIPS TALLY:

Shinpachi x Kagura: I can never really get on this ship since I don’t see them that way (not to mention, it’d probably be a very imbalanced relationship since Kagura would totally dominate Pachi-kun and step all over him), but I did love how he really was Kagura’s anchor and support throughout her whole fight with Abuto, not to mention also the catalyst for her losing herself to her Yato senses since her chain snapped when he was in danger. Really felt the love between them. 

Kondou x Otae & Gintoki x Hasegawa: kinda self-explanatory...both couples are doing what they normally do as couples.

Gintoki x Kamui: here’s where the spark happened.

Gintoki x Tsukuyo: honorable mention since she saved Gin-chan’s life by giving him her kiseru.

This might be random and I don't know if people notice, but can we talk about how annoying/frustrating it is that the Naruto OP/EDs have better animation than the actual series (don't get me wrong though I love most OP/EDs, great animation and the NS moments in them are beautiful). Aa dammit SP. don't you just wish sometimes an other, more professional studio could remake the animation for the series

i think this is the case with a lot of series with studios on a tight budget. having good animation for a good 3 minutes in a 20-25 minute episode. and they can have good animation in these ops/eds because they’ll run for at least 20 or so episodes, so a lot of money is saved there.

that being said, good series with consistently good animation do exist. it won’t be fair to compare the naruto anime with the animation in mob psycho 100, or bnha, or even a longer anime like haikyuu because in comparison they are shorter than naruto. but. take gintama for example. the gintama manga is longer than the naruto manga and the gintama anime has 369 episodes. even if i extend the probable ending of the anime to 20-ish episodes, it still wouldn’t compare to seven hundred and twenty friggin episodes.

studio pierrot took no breaks. kept animating more episodes every week for fifteen or so years and used a significant amount of their budget and stupid fillers to keep the money coming. gintama has changed studios, but over its run of 13 years, it has had just 22 (very hilarious) filler episodes. it took breaks, released seasons in an almost consistent manner, and when they realised that the manga was not even closed to being finished they continued to clown sorachi, gintama’s mangaka, while also clowning themselves for having money-motivated reasons to adapt the series a certain way.

now that’s how you adapt a long running manga into an anime.

it makes me mad because studio pierrot has such amazing animators and instead of directing their budget into bringing in these animators more and more, they used it on a frustrating amount of fillers. naruto could’ve been so much better if not tainted by fillers.

(just looked it up and naruto has had 220 filler episodes. what! also just looked up the filler list for boruto. out of 105 episodes, 53 are filler. what!!!!!!)

so yeah, kind of went off an a tangent there but tl;dr studio pierrot sucks ass.

Now that I'm finally all caught up in Gintama, I need to figure out what my next binge should be. Logically it should be Kyoukai no Rinne (RIN-NE) since I've got the final season left, but Sket Dance is one of my all time favorite manga so I want to watch the anime. However, stuff like Samurai Jam-Bakumatsu Rock and Hinamatsuri have only 12 episodes so that should go too quickly. Then there's Black Clover, which I'm about 75% certain is going to be my jam and I really should catch up in eventually. Then there's Yu-Gi-Oh which I was doing a rewatch of and somehow wandered away from around episode 84, but there's like over 220 episodes of that in general so that's a commitment. Then there's stuff like Golden Kamuy that I finally managed to watch 1 episode of before life got in the way again and Space Brothers which was one of the first anime to binge I put on my queue and somehow the stars just haven't aligned yet. And then there's like other stuff too but I'm not feeling any of them today

I'll watch my usual Monday stuff and see how I feel when I've got binge time

I mean I could end up binging something like one of the many TV shows languishing on my Netflix list which is probably a good option come to think of it especially since it's been a while

Japan Box Office 2018: Detective Conan Zero the Enforcer Became Top-Grossing Anime Film

As 2018 wrapped up, the box-office figures for Japanese anime films and live-action adaptations of popular manga and anime released from January to December are arrived. 

  The top-grossing anime film of 2018 was Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer, the 22nd feature film based on Gosho Aoyama's long-running mystery manga series was released in Japan on April 13, 2018. It made a massive 9.18 billion yen from its domestic run, becoming the most successful film in the franchise and the second top-grossing Japanese film of last year, behind only Japanese idol Tomohisa Yamashita-starring medical drama Code Blue: The Movie that earned 9.23 billion yen. The 23rd film The Fist of Blue Sapphire is already set for release on April 12, 2019.

  Meanwhile, Gintama 2: Okite wa Yaburu tame ni koso Aru (The Rule is surely there to be broken) was the most successful live-action film adaptation of Japanese manga. The sequel featuring the

same cast and staff members from the first film in 2017 made 3.65 billion yen, which was slightly

short of the first film's total of 3.82 billion yen. While the cast have expressed their desire and

anticipation, the announcement for the third film has not yet been made.

I don't know anything about Gintama but damn, it's Sagami Waka. I can feel myself caving into my temptation.

I had no interest in Gintama for years. But then I got sick and decided to give it a go cuz FUNimation has it. So I think I watched 20 of those episodes and decided to go back and start from episode 1 and I'm glad I did. I think I'm on like episode 220 now and it's the funniest shit in the world. It definitely has some dark plots though so it's not all about laughs. I think anybody reading this right now should definitely start watching it.
