CLIPPED (June 2024): Six-episode dramatization, based on an ESPN podcast series, of the 2014 scandal surrounding then L.A. Clippers owner and real estate tycoon Donald Sterling (played here by Ed O'Neill, once again demonstrating his zeal for unflattering roles), whose much younger mixed-race girlfriend V. Stiviano (Cleopatra Coleman) sent a recording of his racist remarks to TMZ — while being sued by Sterling's wife Shelly (Jacki Weaver) over Sterling's expensive gifts — leaving Clippers coach Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne) struggling to hold the already-shaky team together through the fallout. LeVar Burton, a friend of Rivers, appears as himself.
Based on a podcast about the scandal, the show is structurally and tonally reminiscent of the 2016 miniseries AMERICAN CRIME STORY: THE PEOPLE VS. O.J. SIMPSON, although unlike the earlier show, it takes a while to cohere if you're not already familiar with the story. Its best moments are in the third episode, which looks at the impact on the mostly Black players, and in the fourth, which is mostly a flashback to the younger Rivers in 1992, grappling with aftermath of the L.A. riots. Its biggest weakness is its weird ambivalence about Stiviano (still notorious for her "his silly rabbit" and "his right-hand arm" gaffes), alternating between sympathy and painting her as an opportunistic dingbat. Since the only other Black female character in the show (V's friend Deja, played by Yvonna Pearson) is presented as a mean-spirited bitch, one gets the feeling creator Gina Welch — who is white — does not have a high regard for Black women in general, which sits ill given the greater nuance afforded Shelly Sterling. VERDICT: Decent real-life soap opera, but I'm not sure the dramatization adds much to the original podcast.

Clipped (prod. Gina Welch).
Welch occasionally struggles to justify her adaptation in early episodes beyond its source material podcast or what could have easily been a slam-dunk documentary recapping the horribly racist ownership tenure of [Donald] Sterling and its salaciously chaotic details. Oddly, it never lives up to the actual events it's dramatizing and implosion of the characters despite some uniformly fine performances from a legitimately intriguing cast.

Do you have any head cannons on how the characters look like Tyler, Selene extra I want to draw them with my y/n for the story <3
How y/n reacted when they realized viktor was the partner for the project
Tumblr media
IT’S THE WAY I STARTED CRYING OF JOY WHEN I READ THIS ASK BROTHER I RAN TO MY PINTEREST SO FAST
also YES this pic is exactly how she felt and if Piltover’s academy had powerpoints i’m sure this would be the very first slide of their exposé
BUT YEA okay so *clears throat*
for tyler, i have a guy in mind that i think is perfect for his role : tom blyth, ESPECIALLY blonde (in the hunger games ballad of songbird movie)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
for selene i hesitated a LOT (angela bassett, florence welch and gina torres) but decided to go for monica bellucci. i’m entranced by this woman and the way she speaks with her accent AAAAA yes yes yes. i think she has a very mystical vibe and she would perfectly fit for Selene
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as for bbg Eris i’m thinking of my queen isabelle adjani
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and that should be it !! for now at least 👁️👁️ i wanted to try my hand and maybe draw these sillies as well but i have to make choices between writing and drawing so ye.
i am sincerely the happiest someone would ever want to draw something i wrote !! i cannot wait how you’re going to draw these babies and how you’ll draw your y/n 👀
