ICJ RULES AGAINST STOPPING GERMAN ARMS EXPORTS TO THE ISRAELI OCCUPATION

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) at the Hague has ruled against Nicaragua in its case asking the Court to stop German arms exports to the Israeli occupation in support for its genocide in Gaza.

"The circumstances are not such as to require the exercise of its power under Article 41 of the statute to indicate provisional measures," stated presiding Judge Nawaf Salam.

Nicaragua previously argued before the Court that Germany was in violation of the 1948 Genocide Conventions by supplying arms to the Israeli occupation at a time when it would be plausibly used to commit acts of genocide in Gaza.

Germany continues to be one of the largest suppliers of weaponry to the Israeli occupation army, providing $353.7 million in equipment and munitions in 2023.

The German Federal Parliament rejected a proposal presented by the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) party titled “No weapons for war in Gaza, stop arms exports to Israel.” BSW Parliamentarian Sevim Dagdelen stressed in a session late on Thursday night that the Israeli attacks on Gaza no longer have anything to do with self-defence. Dagdelen pointed out that thousands of Palestinian children are at risk of hunger and that the main party responsible for this is the far-right government of Benjamin Netanyahu, which prevents humanitarian aid from entering Gaza. In a speech before the German Parliament, Dagdelen stated: “I think that it’s a disgrace that a very large coalition in this House, from the Greens to the AfD, is refusing to impose an arms stop for Israel.”

Germany, UK join forces to tackle human trafficking across Channel

Britain and Germany pledged on Tuesday to share intelligence and expertise in the fight against gangs ferrying migrants across the English Channel in small boats, in the latest attempt by European countries to stop the dangerous journeys, ABC News reports.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and her German counterpart, Home Secretary Nancy Faeser, signed a “joint action plan” at a meeting in London. The UK said that under the agreement, Germany would make it a specific offence for Germany to facilitate the smuggling of migrants into the UK. Many of the rubber boats used to ferry migrants across the Channel are stored in Germany.

“The criminal gangs who organise dangerous small boats across the channel that undermine our border security, that put lives at risk, are also the same gangs that are operating in Germany, that are operating right across Europe and beyond,” Cooper said. “Law enforcement needs to operate across borders as well.”

Feser said co-operation would include “maintaining a high level of investigative pressure, sharing information as much as possible between our security agencies and continuously investigating financial flows to identify criminals operating behind the scenes.”

Both countries also said they would work to remove migrant smuggling material from social media platforms, where many smuggling gangs advertise their services.

The ministers signed the agreement ahead of a meeting in London of the “Calais Group” which includes Britain, Germany, Belgium, France and the Netherlands, as well as the European Union’s police and border services, Europol and Frontex.

The United Kingdom’s centre-left government is trying to rebuild law enforcement and intelligence links with the UK’s neighbours after the country leaves the EU in 2020. Brexit has complicated international co-operation by taking the UK out of Europol and the intelligence sharing mechanism.

Despite French and UK efforts to tackle migration, the trans-Channel route remains a major smuggling corridor for people fleeing conflict or poverty. Many migrants choose the UK because of language, family ties or perceived easier access to asylum and work.

This year, more than 31,000 migrants have crossed one of the world’s busiest sea routes, more than in the whole of 2023, although less than in 2022. UK officials say more than 70 people have died this year in attempts to cross the canal, making 2024 the deadliest year since the number of crossings began rising in 2018.

JEWISH PEACE ACTIVIST: "THE GERMAN GOVERNMENT DOES EVERYTHING IT CAN TO SILENCE US."

📹 Jewish German peace activist, Udi Raz, based in Berlin, accuses the German government of suppressing peace protests against the Israeli occupation's genocide in Gaza.

According to Raz, the German authorities continue to suppress the Palestine solidarity movement, accusing the German authorities of doing all it can to silence protesters.

The activist slams the Israeli occupation, which publicly accuses the pro-Palestine peace movement of antisemitism, while at the same time, the Zionist occupation declares its ability to speak for all Jews around the world.

"Israel cannot speak in the name of Jews," Raz tells Anadolu News Agency. "Whoever claims otherwise, to my understanding, this is an antisemitic claim."

"Jews are diverse. Jews live in diverse and different geopolitical contexts and national contexts," the Jewish peace activist continues.

"We Jews who live here in Germany, of course, we care about other Jews who live elsewhere, but it does not mean that we are ambassadors of a racist state called the state of Israel," Raz added.

German police admit receiving warnings about Magdeburg Christmas market attack

Germany’s government has vowed to investigate whether an attack on a Christmas market that killed five people and injured 200 could have been prevented, after it emerged that authorities had received multiple warnings about the suspect.

Amid growing criticism of Germany’s security apparatus, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said on Sunday that the heads of domestic and foreign intelligence services would be questioned by two parliamentary committees next week.

Authorities have identified the driver who rammed a car into a crowded Christmas market in the German city of Magdeburg, killing at least five people and injuring more than 200. He was a 50-year-old Saudi national Taleb al-Abdulmohsen who had lived in Germany for more than a decade and worked as a doctor.

A self-styled “Saudi atheist” who helped women flee the Gulf, he had sharply criticised Berlin for taking in too many Muslim refugees and had repeatedly supported far-right conspiracy theories about the “Islamisation” of Europe.

On social media platform X Abdulmohsen expressed support for the Alternative for Germany party (AfD) and X’s owner, American billionaire Elon Musk, who publicly backed AfD, saying only an anti-immigration party “can save Germany.”

The victims were identified as four women aged 52, 45, 75 and 67 and a nine-year-old boy, named by his mother on Sunday as Andre Gleisner.

Faeser also said on Sunday that the challenge was to “paint a portrait” of a suspect “who did not fit into any existing template.” He acted “incredibly violently as an Islamist terrorist, even though he was clearly ideologically hostile to Islam,” she said. She promised the Bild newspaper that she would “leave no stone unturned,” adding that authorities would “clarify all of this background. They will also examine in detail what information was available in the past and how it was monitored.”

Media reported that Saudi Arabia had previously requested the extradition of the suspect in the Magdeburg Christmas market attack.

In 2015 and 2016, Germany took in more than 1 million refugees and asylum seekers, mostly from the Middle East. Germany was initially praised for opening its doors, but as the AfD’s anti-immigrant stance grew, support for the policy waned.
