David Tennant and the German Peacocks :D ❤ 🦚
David Tennant and the peacocks at the Angels, Demons and Doctors con in Germany, 5.5.2024 :)
Fan question: You've been a couple of times in Germany in the last years and are there any things you are impressed of maybe some things you see here, some buildings or good German food or anything else.
David: The peacocks are very impressive. The German peacocks are much more approachable than the British peacocks. In Britain, you'll see a peacock roaming some stately home, but they will not let you anywhere near them. These ones are coming up for a chat. They're very friendly.
Int: Well they tried to break in the room a couple of times, I thought.
David: But when their tail's up, they're actually...
Int: They're frisky.
David: They're either want you to F off or...
Int: F in.
David: Yeah. Yeah. So it's not actually great when the tail's...
Int: No.
David: But it's very impressive .
Int: It depends how much like peacocks, I guess.
David: Well, yeah. But I'm very... that's the german peacocks. Well done.

Hey... remember that post I made about Kakania's siezen in chapter 6? As I rewatched and transcribed Kakania's speech in 6-24, I noticed that Kakania had switched to using du midway through her monologue and that's just... such a neat detail to me.
Kakania was no longer speaking under any guise or formality or professionalism, she's speaking to Isolde as the friend she thought they always were, as her true self, just as Isolde had been doing with her so long before this. But now that du no longer carries that same tone of comfort and safety, it carries weight, anger, and the despair of a person who has seemingly lost a friend that they have cared for for so long, someone they thought they had known but has now been estranged before their very eyes.
Also, for anyone who needs it, the full speech scene in German is below the cut
Isolde: Du hast alles gut gepackt (?).
Kakania: Ja.
Alles, was ihm wichtig war, hatte dir nie gehört. Die Zerstörung dieser Welt bedeutete dir nichts.
Isolde: Mein Kopf tut wirklich weh.
#n talks about shit#reverse 1999#isolde#kakania#kakania was trying so hard to fix her but in the end all it did was grow the distance between them even further#god i'm so normal about these two (lying)#there may be some inaccuracies in the transcription btw my german listening comprehension isn't that great#breaking up one of kakania's parts in the transcription because length lmao

Niki and Pac teaching each other phrases in their respective languages :D
[transcript:
Niki: "Niki did you know that Pac speaks German?" You speak German? Pac: Oh, (stutters) Mm, I'm— I'm... Ich bin Pac. Niki: Oh! Let's go! Pac: Yeah, I— That's the only thing I know in—in German, unfortunately, sorry. Niki: I love it! Pac: You like it? Niki: Mhm! Pac: I was trying to learn a little bit 'cause I, I went to—to Berlin, for—for, for— Niki: I'm from Beriln! Pac: For a couple weeks, you know. Niki: Yeah! Pac: Last year. But uh, it's kind—it's a little bit hard to me, but I— I'm—I'm using Duolingo, you know, to—to learn more. Niki: Oh, cute! Pac: Yeah! Niki: Yeah, German is a really hard language, don't worry. Pac: Yeah, it— there—there's a lot of rules, but I'm—I'm trying to get to it. You speak German and English, right? Niki: Yeah, and—and a little bit of Spanish. Pac: Oh, a little bit of Spanish— Oh, that's awesome. Niki: Mhm. Pac: Can you tell me something in German? I like the accent— the accent, you know. Niki: Oo, um... Yeah yeah yeah, okay, so the way you ask "how are you?", you say "Wie geht es dir?" (slower) "Wie geht es dir?" Pac: Wie geht es dir? Niki: Yeah! That's "how are you?" Pac: Oh! Niki: And then "Mir geht es gut" is "I'm good," or "I'm doing well." Pac: Mir geht es gut. Niki: Mir— mir geht es gut. Yeah! Pac: Mir geht es gut, oh, thank you! Oh, I'm learning! Niki: Yeah! It's so fun! Pac: (overlapping) Oh, that's awesome, thank you, Niki! Niki: Yeah! Pac: I'm gonna learn a lot with you, you know? It's gonna be great. Yeah! Niki: Yes! Pac: Yeah. Niki: Yes yes yes! Pac: I'm excited. Niki: We can teach each other. Pac: Yeah, and I can teach you a little bit of Portuguese, too! Yeah! Like— Niki: Yeah! I'm actually going to Portugal in November. Pac: Oh, really? Oh, so I can give you, uh, some tips, you know, how to say um, good morning, good night, hello, how are you. Yeah! Niki: Yes! How do you say— How do you say, um, "hello"? 'Cause I don't know anything. Pac: Hello? Um, olá. Niki: Is it just olá? Pac: Olá. Niki: I see, I see. Pac: Yeah, uh, "how are you?" we ask—we say "Tudo bem?" Niki: Tudo bem? Pac: Yeah! Exactly. Niki: (gasps) Oh my god! Pac: And I said "Ich bin Pac," like, "I am Pac," right? Niki: Mhm! Pac: If you wanna say this in Portuguese, é "eu sou Pac." Ou "eu sou a Niki." Niki: Eu sou Niki? Pac: Yeah! Exactly. Yeah. Niki: (gasps) Oh my god! Pac: Yeah! Niki: That's so fun! Pac: Yeah, yeah! (laughs) Niki: Okay, I think we're being called, so I think we have to go, but that's so fun! (laughs) Pac: (overlapping) Yeah, yeah, we— Yeah, let's go. (laughs)

[Begin transcript:
Holmes: Poldhu Bay? Hah, you're not content with dragging me to Cornwall. It has to be the furthest possible extremity!
Watson: Ah, come on. Confess it. It's the holiday you hate, not the place.
Holmes: Hm. Perhaps.
Watson: (Laughs) Thought so. You like it here just as much as I do. And with good reason. It's magnificent.
(Pause, seabirds cawing)
Holmes: Have you noticed how quickly the wind turns?
Watson: Hm?
Holmes: Yes, one minute the water's sheltered and safe, the next it's treacherous. This whole bay is a death trap.
Watson: That's a gloomy sort of observation.
Holmes: Well, look inland. A whole race of people lived here and now they've vanished completely. All that's left is a few burial grounds and stone monuments. Heh, the place encourages gloom.
Watson: Eh, I wouldn't call it gloomy. Romantic, yes. It has mystery. If there are ghosts, this is the place for them. I think it's inspiring.
Holmes: You're not the only one to think so...
Watson: Huh?
Holmes: So starben wir, um ungetrennt. Ewig einig, ohne End'. Ohn' Erwachen, ohn' Erbangen. Namenlos, in Lieb' umfangen.
Watson: That's beautiful.
Holmes: It's by Wagner. Tristan and Isolde. Act two. It's set here, on the Cornish coast.
Watson: What do the words mean?
Holmes: They're a hymn. To love.
Watson: Huh. Eh, you see? Romantic.
Holmes: And to death.
(Pause, instrumental of "So Starben Wir" begins)
Holmes: So let us die and never part. Together, for the rest of time. No more waking, no more fearing. Nameless, endless, loving, sharing. Existing only in each other. Wrapped in love and death and darkness.
(Instrumental continues on without him, and then fades out)

So, we got a message from these two sweethearts on Telegram, where they briefly talked about their pre-ESC concert next year in Malmö, and I would have loved to share it with you all, but there's this top-secret-highly-important rule that whatever happens on the Telegram channel stays on the Telegram channel, so I found a compromise: You'll get these two very crappy screenshots up there and a translation of the German video plus a transcript of the English one down under the cut. Enjoy!
Translation:
Alright, friends, today a message from the car. Ah wait, gotta hit the break very quick, AAAH, no wait [points the camera over to Klaas], I'm not even driving haha, Klaus Granate is driving.
Sooo … If you have nothing planned yet for next year, tenth of May, and you feel like coming to Sweden … Well, there are no hotels anymore in Malmö [laughs], cause that's when the ESC is gonna take place there. But I mean, you can just sleep somewhere on the countryside, in a nice sleeping bag – we're gonna do that, too, right? [films Klaas again – Klaas: Yeah yeah, course.] Exactly. No, actually we could still find a hotel in Copenhagen, which is just across the bridge.
So we came up with an idea, we thought we'd do the following: Whenever it is somehow possible for us, time-wise and distance-wise, we will be playing a concert on the evening before the grand final in the respective ESC city, so it will always be somewhere else. We just enjoyed the time at the Eurovision Song Contest so much, that we did not want to leave this feeling or this community, and we also wanted to give something back to the community. So we want to come back to the ESC every year from now on. So one day before the grand final and one day after the semi-final – which is exactly this one Friday – we just bring our own ESC party into the respective city, in the form of a concert of course.
Or as someone wrote in a comment that we just read: trauma management [both laughing]. I was like: C'mon! Maybe we're just really up for this. Whatever, there will always be someone complaining, there will always be that ass. How does that song from Lacrimosa go? Irgendein Arsch ist immer unterwegs [literally: there will always be some ass running around]. That's how it is.
Alright, so if you don't yet know what to do on the tenth of May, just come to our – probably only – concert in Sweden next year.
***
Transcript:
So friends. I'm here with Klaus Granate in the car. So, you might have seen it already, although we haven't posted it officially yet, right now it's just within the Eurovision bubble. We're coming back to the Eurovision next year – don't be scared! We're not participating. Although we'd love to ;).
No, but we thought it might be great to do our yearly thing at Eurovision from now on, so we thought, one day before the grand final, one day after the semi-final on this Friday, where actually only Eurovision parties are happening, we bring our own Eurovision party in the form of a concert to the city where the finals are taking place, which will be Malmö next year, in Sweden. So we thought, you know, we don't really wanna leave this Eurovision community, and this way we might be able to give something back.
This might be our only show next year in Sweden. It's on May the tenth in Malmö. And yeah, presales are going superfast, the club is kinda small, so if you wanna see us in Sweden next year one day before the grand final, come to our Eurovision concert, it's gonna be a special show with some special songs.
#btw don't worry i'm not gonna do a transcript or a translation for every telegram update now not even if i had the time lol#but this one made me laugh and maybe it will make you laugh as well :)#lord of the lost#lotl#eurovision#i just really love the fact that german media wanted to get rid of them so quickly as soon as the final results came in#after having praised them like gods for about two months straight#and lotl are just like: you morons! you naive fools! you will never get rid of us ever again!#and how they drop that they'd really love to participate again every chance they get and how they wanna apply again#can we not just make this our running gag? sending them every year from now on?#the germans love to complain anyway that it doesn't matter who we send so why not just send lotl every year? THEY'd be up for it :D#my translation

Promo for German-language La Cage aux Folles (2022), ft. Drew Sarich as Albin/Zaza, and Victor Gernot as Georges
English translation below the cut!
[approximate English Translation of German Transcript]:
Georges: Open your eyes! You are in the cage of fools — in La Cage aux Folles!
Victor Gernot (Actor, Georges): My name is Georges— I'm the director of this variety show. I am the boss of the Cagelles, and I'm not just the employer, but also the best friend, lover, husband, and admirer of the star of the show: Zaza on stage, and my Albin in real life.
Zaza, singing Mascara (translation of German lyrics): 🎶 I only feel zest for life, sensual, fabulous, / Because through putting on make up, Albin has vanished, and Zaza is here 🎶
Drew Sarich (Actor, Albin/Zaza): We have a wonderful home, and we have a son, Jean-Michel. And Jean-Michel comes home and tells Georges that he's getting married.
Gernot: Excellent choice. He has chosen the daughter of the party chairman for family, tradition, and morals, and wants to present an idealised/sanitised world for these in-laws—a world that, of course, doesn't actually exist in our household.
Jean-Michel: For the next 24 hours, there will be people here who have a different lifestyle than you do. For the next 24 hours, I am asking that you give up everything that you personally enjoy and everything that you are personally proud of. My future depends on it.
Melissa King (Director and Choreographer): This play is over 40 years old, and even if LGBTPQ rights have made advances, the community still isn't truly integrated. Which is to say, there is a certain level of, let's say, tolerance, but not 100% acceptance.
Georges, singing Look over There (translation of German lyrics): 🎶 Why do you believe that from now on there is just one love? / Think of the affection you have experienced so far 🎶
Lorenz C. Aichner (Conductor): My favourite numbers are actually the quieter ones. The show numbers are done wonderfully—beautifully crafted, dramaturgically well constructed with their high points, and they are superbly scored—but the most honest numbers are the quiet numbers, where there are truly honest interactions, truly honest emotions, and things are happening at a truly interpersonal level.
Georges and Albin, singing the Song on the Sand reprise (translation of German lyrics): 🎶 As the time has passed / I think often of that song there, in the sand 🎶
Aichner: Yeah, I think Georges is a difficult character—difficult for himself. For us, he's not a difficult character, but for himself? I think he sometimes makes his own life more difficult because he wants to be diplomatic toward everyone. I think that's a fine quality to have, but it must be terribly stressful for him.
Gernot: At first, the plan is that you won't be there at all. And then we decide that it would be good if you were there, as a man, as Uncle Albert. And finally, you take initiative—
Sarich: —and save the day!
Gernot: You save the show, you save the day, you save the marriage, the upcoming marriage, you save our marriage, and are the mother.
Zaza and ensemble, singing The Best of Times is Now (translation of German lyrics): 🎶 The most beautiful time is now / what’s left of summer, just an Edelweiss 🎶
King: And I find, that's when you see the perfect blend of Albin and Zaza. Albin, who's perhaps less self-assured, who's jealous, and then you have Zaza, who has power, self-assuredness, will fight for everyone, right? And when he has to play the mother, it's the perfect blend of the two. I think every person has yin and yang, masculine-feminine, and when those are perfectly combined, then the person is...
Aichner: Complete.
King: Complete. Thank you. Thank you. (laughs)
Zaza, singing I Am What I Am (translation of German lyrics): 🎶 I am what I am / and what I am is not a secret 🎶
Sarich: It's phenomenal that we can deliver a message like this without it getting preachy. Where we don't have to point and say "Please please please please please." Um, there's an expression in English, "You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar," and we are smearing honey over everything.
Gernot: Yes.
Sarich: Ha!
Gernot: At the end of, at the end of the night, we smell a bit like vinegar, but— (laughs)
Sarich: (laughs) But we taste like honey.
Gernot: We taste like honey (laughs).
Zaza, singing I Am What I Am (translation of German lyrics): 🎶 Hey world! I am what I am 🎶
#disclaimer: i am not a professional translator#but i enjoyed this promo and ik there's fans on here that don't speak german so#the yt captions are autogenerated and they're imperfect to say the least so if anyone wants a proper german transcript lmk#or if you want to talk about musical translations and specifically the german versions of lcaf songs lol#drew sarich#victor gernot#lcaf#these are just ramblings

Translated Transcript for those who need it below! Fellow bilingual Germans, feel free to correct or improve my wording. Especially where I have a put a (?) I am not sure if this is the correct wording.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have just requested the federal president to dismiss the federal minister of finance. [...] At noon, I once again presented the coalition partner from the FDP a comprehensive offer, with which we could close the gap in the federal budget without letting our country descend into chaos. An offer, to strengthen Germany in difficult times. An offer, that also picks up suggestions by the FDP. [...] However, once again I have to realize: The Federal Minister of Finance is not showing any willingness to implement this proposal in the federal government for the well-being of our country. I no longer want to expect our country to tolerate (?) this sort of behavior.
Dear fellow citizens, I would have preferred to spare you from this difficult decision. Especially in times like these, in which uncertainty is rising. [...] Someone who, in such circumstances, rejects a solution, a proposal of a compromise, they are acting irresponsibly. [...] Too often were the necessary compromises drowned out with publicly orchestrated arguments and loud ideological demands. Too often has federal minister Lindner blocked bills unrelatedly. Too often has he maneuvered narrow-minded and party-political. Too often has he broken my trust.
Even the agreement on the budget(?) he canceled one-sidedly, after we had already reached an agreement in long negotiations. There is no base of trust to continue working together. Thusly serious government work is not possible.
Someone who joins a government should act seriously and responsibly. They are not allowed to disappear into the bushes, when it gets difficult. They should be prepared to compromise in the interest of all citizens. Yet at the moment this is not Christian Lindners goal. He is focused on his own clientele. He is focused on the short-term surviving of his own political party. Especially today, one day after an important event like the election in America is such egoism completely incomprehensible. [...] Never ever should we let inner, outer and social security play against each other. That endangers our cohesion. In the long run that endangers our democracy.
Why am I saying this? Federal minister Lindner has ultimately and publicly requested a fundamentally different politics. Billions worth of tax cuts for a few top earners and at the same time pension cuts for all pensioners. That is not decent, that is not fair. Tax favors with the watering can(?) and as counter-financing a reach into the pockets of our cities and communes. Opting out of investments in the climate-friendly modernization of our country: That is also what Christian Lindner wants. This fuels uncertainty into our economy. And it squanders our chance to be near the front of future technologies. The USA, China and others aren't sleeping.
In a roundabout way Christian Lindner speaks of the lifting of efficiency reserves in our social insurance system.
However, behind this hides severe cuts in health and care, and less security when someone gets into distress.
That is disrespectful towards everyone who have worked hard for this security, towards everyone who pay tax and social contributions. [...]
How do we now proceed? Federal minister Lindner will be dismissed by the federal president. [...]
@legoyuri cause I saw you requested a translation
inject it into my bloodstream
