Buy That Fire!
Unmasked (1980) and Asylum (1985) are somewhat close to each other for me.
But on a conditional, ambiguous emotional level. That goes a little bit hand in hand with this fixed idea that has settled in my head and made itself comfortable in a remote, small, but not completely unimportant corner, and doesn't think about moving away soon. I think in this corner of my mind it's more or less all about Kiss' music. Who among us Kissians doesn't have such a corner?
Anyway, the point of this idea is that I see Unmasked as a kind of the sweet, sticky glue that binds Creatures of the Night (1982) and Asylum together. And every now and then this glue pulls long strings, more like the cheese on many a pizza or cheese fondue does. Yummy!
And since today's not really about Creatures of the Night (1), let's just look at one of those strands that directly connects Unmasked and Asylum.
You know that extremely catchy break in Is That You? , which takes place directly between the vocal bridge and the chorus and is almost more of a character-defining stylistic device than just the same old break? Exactly the same break can also be found in Trial By Fire in exactly the same spot, between the bridge and chorus. Which makes one more reason of significantly more in my book why Asylum sounds like klassik Kiss (2).
And when I look at Gene's re-usage rate of that break, I think we should all agree on that, especially with regard to a further recycling of exactly this break on Hot and Cold from Sonic Boom (2009) (3) .
Anybody surprised?
Side Note:
(1) By the way, you can read my short thesis on why I consider Creatures of the Night and Asylum to be brother and sister albums right here.
(2) As far as the general tolerance goes to approve an album like Unmasked as a klassik Kiss sound, of course. For my part, I don't have the slightest problem with it. I guess every Kiss album sounds klassik to me, but I maybe that's just me.
(3) And what the whole thing has to do with Rock and Roll Over (1976) , I'll save that for another time.

Sooie EVIL Sooie! "Pig Killer" reviewed! (Breaking Glass Pictures & Darkstar Pictures / Blu-ray)
On This Farm There Was a “PIg Killer” now on Blu-ray! Pig ranching landowner Robert “Willy” Pickton’s compulsions to pick up unprincipled women involved in prostitution and drugs and horrifically rape and murder them in the name of salvation stems from a severely abusive childhood with the father’s physically and mentally tormenting as well as a scornful mother sexually assaulting him.  Willy’s…

Dearest Lady of the Manners,
I hope this will find you well. I'm facing the self-imposed task of creating a Gothique for dummies playlist for the local queer association. I was wondering if you would be so kind to offer me your wisdom and maybe suggest a couple of songs that you would consider necessary to include, bonus point if not very known or not English-sung.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.
May the demons that haunt you always be of the fun kind instead of the migraine-y type.
Ooooh, what a great question! I can't think of any "not English-sung" songs, drat it all, but as for other songs that may not be as well-known for this sort of thing ...
Gingerbread Coffin - Rasputina
This Girl Called Harmony - Attrition
Gutter Glitter - Switchblade Symphony (You'd think this would be well-known, but I have had DJs look at me blankly when I request it.)
Ribbons - Sisters of Mercy (The previous aside also applies here.)
The Carny of Mr. Dark - Deathwatch Beetle Repairman
White Rabbit (cover) - Collide
Exterminating Angel - The Creatures
Face to Face - Siouxsie and the Banshees (Written by Danny Elfman!)
Cry Little Sister - Gerard McMahon (From The Lost Boys soundtrack, and again, you would think it was well-known, but apparently not everyone thinks of it as a goth song. They would be wrong.)
Okay, peeps, chime in with your suggestions!

Ok so just got back from Comic Con, and I have to say OHMYGOD
I met the composer for Cry Little Sister from Lost Boys, Gerard McMann(or McMahon) lovely man I loved him (even if he kind of ignored me 🥲) still amazing man. Told me and my fam the story of how he wrote the song, I’m probs late to the party but, this man quite literally read the script and wrote the song. Absolute legend I love him so much he was so nice.
And here’s the original paper he wrote it down on!!!

For music suggestions I'd recommend Faith No More!! Epic and Midlife Crisis are good to start. For an explicitly gay song there's Be Aggressive, and if you like dark/fucked up songs listen to Edge of the World or Underwater Love. And fun fact, they have a very strong connection to Metallica (explained here and here)!
That's really cool how connected to Metallica they are, especially through Cliff. (And it's cool to see how supportive Metallica's been of them!)
I liked Epic. I especially liked the video and the way the singer's voice sounds on the chorus. I liked their style. It's really cool for me when bands have cool videos and I love when singers have something interesting going on with their voice. (It feels a bit like Beastie Boys mixed with Red Hot Chili Peppers)
And I'm always looking for songs that are explicitly gay. I really like the inclusion of women singing on Be Aggressive, it was a fun addition to the tone.
With Edge Of The World, I liked that song too. I especially love the general melody of it. It has an interesting vibe that I can't quite explain, I'm not sure what to compare it to. But perhaps a mix between Will Wood and My Chemical Romance in a way. (Also a bit of Cry Little Sister by Gerard McMahon)
The lyrics were also very cool, I love music like that.
I have a lot of the same feelings about Underwater Love as I do about Edge Of The World.

Don't know what type of music you consider cool, but there are a few recommendations to give a try: Cry Little Sister - Gerard McMahon (1987) Do Ya Wanna Get Funky With Me - Peter Brown (1977) Set It Off - Strafe (1984) Tiny Dancer - Elton John (1971) Black Money - Culture Club (Early 1980s) Hopefully these can at least lead you in a direction for what you might want.
Hi Nonny friend!
I don’t recognize the song names (cept elton john and tiny dancer), but I probably have heard all of these, at some point in my life. I will definitely have a listen to all of these! Thank you for the ideas nonny!
It’s much appreciated!

Music asks: 13, 15, 18.
(I know you did 15 already but you said you love covers and would answer it multiple times. I also love covers and want to hear all your answers.)
13: One of your favorite 80’s songs I don't think the fact that I love Head Over Heels is a secret to anyone, so I'm gonna go with something else and that something else is: Cry Little Sister by Gerard McMann/McMahon (Lost Boys Soundtrack)
15: A song that is a cover by another artist Danger Zone by Zayde Wølf
18: A song from the year that you were born Black Velvet by Alannah Myles, a banger and also one of my top karaoke songs
