I originally wanted to post this for Yenralt Appreciation Week, but I'm a mess and missed the event, so now it only makes it into the Cooking with the Hanza August theme, Fashion.

(when you just can't seem) to shake the weight of living

Geralt's muscles heave backwards, flinging him down against the bed. He tries to struggle upwards but it feels like he’s been buried beneath a mountain. Every inch of him is pressed completely still. His eyes close, and he’s left in the dark with nothing but his racing heart for company. He’s not tired, he’s never been less tired. But the curse wants him to sleep, it seems. It’ll force him to lie here until he does. How much of his life will it start to control, now that he’s declared war against it? Now that he knows it’s lurking in his bones, now that it doesn’t have to be subtle? He swallows. Takes a long, deep breath, gathering every bit of courage he has to stop himself from slipping back into panic. He still has control over his lungs. He still has that. For now. (Or: Witchers don't retire. They stay on the Path until it kills them. They hunt monsters and they want nothing from life. This isn't exactly by choice.)

The astolat inspired plot is evident in the intricacy of world building and emotional developments that creep onto each character, but the story has a unique style all its own with points such as humorous plays on the elven world that underlies the Continent and the inclusion of Geralt and Yennefer's canon passion for one another. Iorveth's personal journey is heart wrenching, but Corvo Bianco and her occupants embrace him for an ultimately feel good ending (and promise of a bright future.)

@otterintheflightdeck writes the soft, sensual world our favorite war criminal deserves in this fic as well as many other exceptional pieces.

Sometimes I really wish I could draw or paint. I have this perfect image for my story in my head, I did write it down, but I would love to see it in picture.

Working on the next chapter of Stolen Moments, my Witcher AU fic. I’m getting there.

Here’s the snippet:

He found her at the patio, looking at the linden trees in the garden, her elbows resting on the stone railing. She must have heard him approaching since he had no intention to sneak up on her, but she didn’t move.

"Fingers bothering you this much?" Geralt asked. "I have potions if you don't want to wake Nenneke now."

"No need," Yennefer waved her hand dismissively, still watching the linden leaves rustling in the wind. "It's not nearly half as bad as the last-"

She looked away. There was a lot she was not saying. It still happened way too often. Geralt moved closer and wrapped an arm around her waist, placing the other hand on the railing. 

"Yen. What did he do to you?"

Yennefer did not answer for a long time, gaze locked on the linden tree. She leaned to the touch, moving until she could rest her head against his chest.

Geralt placed his chin on the to of her head. He wished he could promise he would never let anything like this to happen to her again, but it was a lie he would not feed with neither her nor Ciri. He could only do his best, so he said nothing.

"Don't dig, Geralt," Yennefer said finally. "He wanted me to track Ciri for him. I refused. It doesn't matter now."
