"The President has been weighed down by the vast load he carries; his sagacity, firmness, and patriotism have given way under the appalling condition of the country and the violence in his Cabinet. He argues too much, becomes inconsistent, and does vastly more harm than good. His propositions of compromise, as stated, he must know to be impracticable."
-- Former Vice President George Mifflin Dallas, then serving as U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain, on President James Buchanan's disastrous final months in office as the country slid towards Civil War, diary entry, December 19, 1860.

I want to learn more about George M. Dallas. I’m surprised how little I know as a fan of Polk and the vice presidents. I’ve been subconsciously calling him George Muffins Dallas. Or just Muffins

Quarant'anni anni fa l'opinione pubblica era formata esclusivamente dai Media ufficiali.
Quindi scriviamo, leggiamo e discutiamo, senza paura❗

Storia Di Musica #316 - The Black Crowes, The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion, 1992

Buona lettura a tutti!
GHOST STORIES – M. R. JAMES

BLOODY SLUTTY AND PATHETIC | Traduzione in Italiano
Justin is about to leave for 10 days. This is the longest he’s ever been away. Ugh.
His work trip is in Dallas. I’m insanely jealous. He gets to see our friends and old neighbors, and he gets to eat at our favorite spots. He wanted us to join, I just thought it would be too much with G&G, who don’t sleep in hotels or travel well. But dang, we should have gone just for the weekend. Regrets.
So many changes are taking place. The school year is wrapping up, Alyssa’s Celebration of Growth is tomorrow. The weather is heating up. I’m hanging out more with my kindergarten mom squad friends. I don’t know. I have big feelings about our first real summer here. Maybe I have some mild PTSD from last summer? I don’t know. The stress of it still makes me nauseous when I think about it. Ha! Maybe the move will be a traumaversary in my life now. Is that possible? Maybe, since the move from CA to TX broke my heart into a million little pieces and MA, while a definite upgrade, was still a small echo of that. Leaving friends and loved ones and places that felt like home and venturing into the great unknown. Sigh. It’s been crazy and fun and exciting and new and great but there have been times where I’ve felt alone, like I’ll never truly fit in here. But there are a bunch of transplants in my kindergarten mom squad and that has helped.
I’ve also met several moms with autistic kiddos. It’s nice to have a support system of people who get it. I used to have so much anxiety about his milestones and meeting kids older than him who eventually developed meaningful speech has been so nice. George has started to say some more meaningful words and phrases (“cracker” for Graham cracker, he refers to himself as “Georgie”, and he tells us “no” now when he doesn’t want to do something). He still says tickle and peekaboo when he wants to play and cheese when you take his picture. He’s getting there. He’ll get there. He’s the cuddliest, sweetest guy with the best disposition out of every kid I’ve ever met. I wouldn’t change him for one second, I just hope I get to hear about his interests some day.
Alyssa still wants to be both JoJo Siwa and a chef. Her favorite songs are Party in the USA and Shake it Off, she dances to them on repeat. I bet she would love Hannah Montana. She has poses now that she practices in the mirror and I honestly think she is perfect in every way. And very entertaining.
Gen is Gen. She is The Boss. Preschool two days a week next year will do her some good I think. The FCC classes are so great but they require parent participation and she rather be with me than her classmates, so her participation level is low. It will be so good for her to be with peers when mom isn’t there. She is so smart, she watches everything and everyone. She talks so much, and most of it sounds like a little grownup, she is very articulate. She is also fascinated by babies and batteries.
That’s pretty much it. Girls will do swim lessons, gardening class, and gymnastics this summer. George will have his IEP program for 3 hours M-Th. We’ll pack a picnic lunch, pick him up from school, and either head to the lake or playground for the afternoon. I’d love to wear them out every day and have early bedtimes. And it’s so much easier to parent outdoors. Weather is perfect here, TX you could really only enjoy the outdoors in the morning or evening, it will be nice to have all day to be outside.

【Antebellum/AMV】Psycho Killer
Happy Independence Day guys!! Hope you all enjoy this!
Like I've said the theme of this amv is probably: humorously(?) compressed simple antebellum history (1812-1861) group portraits into 4 minutes. So most scenes are basically related to historical facts, and the numbers there are the years of the events. However I'm historically illiterate in antebellum era, and this was something I decided to make before I even understood antebellum people lol. I hope there aren't any big mistakes x
While playing this song on repeat it suddenly struck me that everyone in the antebellum era was a god damned Psycho Killer, hence the idea for this group portrait. It's kinda sad that some of the characters I didn't get a chance to draw or that I didn't know enough about them.
If you like this, please tell me your favourite scene and feel free to share any thoughts!!! I want comments so badly😭😭😭I will probably make an explanation of timeline later!!!

Have any Vice Presidents later run for Governor or other office besides President after their terms?
Yes. Not counting those who served as President or ran for President following their time as Vice President, or the seven Vice Presidents who died in office (George Clinton, Elbridge Gerry, William R. King, Henry Wilson, Thomas A. Hendricks, Garret Hobart, and James S. Sherman), here are the VPs who sought other offices post-Vice Presidency:
•Aaron Burr (1801-1805): Lost race for Governor of New York in 1804 during his Vice Presidency. •Daniel D. Tompkins (1817-1825): Lost race for Governor of New York in 1820 during his Vice Presidency. •John C. Calhoun (1825-1832): Resigned the Vice Presidency to join in the U.S. Senate from South Carolina (1832-1843); Served as Secretary of State (1844-1845) in the last stretch of the Tyler Administration; Elected again to the U.S. Senate from South Carolina (1845-1850) after serving as Secretary of State.
•Richard M. Johnson (1837-1841): Lost race for the U.S. Senate in Kentucky in 1842; Served two separate terms in the Kentucky House of Representatives (1841-1843; 1850) after his Vice Presidency. Died two weeks into his second post-Vice Presidential term in the state legislature.
•John Tyler (1841): After serving as Vice President and President, and following Virginia's secession from the Union in 1861, Tyler was elected as a delegate to the Provisional Confederate Congress. Tyler was also elected to a full term in the Confederate House of Representatives but died just before taking his seat in February 1862.
•George M. Dallas (1845-1849): Appointed U.S. Minister to Great Britain (1856-1861) by President Pierce and served under Presidents Pierce and Buchanan before being replaced early in the Lincoln Administration.
•John C. Breckinridge (1857-1861): Elected to a U.S. Senate seat from Kentucky while still Vice President. After administering the oath of office to his successor as Vice President, Hannibal Hamlin, Breckinridge was immediately sworn into the Senate by Hamlin. Although Kentucky remained neutral during the Civil War, Breckinridge supported the Confederacy and joined the Confederate military while still a sitting Senator, resulting in treason charges in November 1861 and, a month later, unanimous expulsion from the Senate. Breckinridge became a general in the Confederate Army and served as Confederate President Jefferson Davis's final Secretary of War.
•Hannibal Hamlin (1861-1865): Briefly served as Collector of the Port of Boston (1865-1866) after being appointed by President Andrew Johnson. Elected U.S. Senator from Maine (1869-1881). Served as U.S. Ambassador to Spain (1881-1882) under Presidents Garfield and Arthur.
•Andrew Johnson (1865): After his brief Vice Presidency and nearly four years as President, Johnson lost races for the U.S. Senate (1869) and U.S. House of Representatives in Tennessee. Elected as U.S. Senator from Tennessee in 1875 and died in office.
•William A. Wheeler (1877-1881): Wheeler was considered as a candidate for the U.S. Senate from New York on several occasions following his Vice Presidency but never made a serious bid for election.
•Levi P. Morton (1889-1893): Served as Governor of New York (1895-1896).
•Adlai E. Stevenson (1893-1897): Lost race for Governor of Illinois in 1908.
•Charles W. Fairbanks (1905-1909): Fairbanks was the Republican nominee for Vice President on a ticket alongside Presidential nominee Charles Evans Hughes in 1916 but they lost to incumbent President Woodrow Wilson and Vice President Thomas R. Marshall.
•Charles G. Dawes (1925-1929): Served as U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain (1929-1931), appointed by President Hoover.
•Henry A. Wallace (1941-1945): After being dumped as Vice President in favor of Harry Truman when Franklin D. Roosevelt ran for a fourth term in 1944, FDR appointed Wallace Secretary of Commerce where he served from 1945-1946 under Roosevelt and Truman
•Alben W. Barkley (1949-1953): Elected to the U.S. Senate from Kentucky after his Vice Presidency and served from 1955 until dying in office in 1956.
•Richard Nixon (1953-1961): After losing his first bid for the White House in 1960, Nixon also lost a race for Governor of California in 1962 after leaving the Vice Presidency before making a remarkable comeback to win the Presidency in 1968.
•Hubert H. Humphrey (1965-1969): Elected to his former seat in the U.S. Senate from Minnesota and served until dying in office (1971-1978).
•Walter Mondale (1977-1981): U.S. Ambassador to Japan (1993-1996), appointed by President Clinton. In 2002, Mondale lost a race for U.S. Senate from Minnesota when he was the last-minute replacement on the ballot after Senator Paul Wellstone was killed in a plane crash.

It's a murder mystery withouth the mystery, omniscient narrator that's a jumping POV, and the cheapest plot twists at the end. It was painful, a mess. Poor girl, of course she was confussed.

+++
December 8 - Appearing in person at a meeting of both houses of Congress, U.S. President Warren G. Harding delivered his State of the Union message to Congress. "It is four years since the World War ended", Harding said, "but the inevitable readjustment of the social and economic order is not more than barely begun." Harding spoke at length about the country's recent labor strife and recommended the creation of a non-partisan tribunal to replace the current Labor Board. On the matter of Prohibition he said, "The day is unlikely to come when the Eighteenth Amendment will be repealed. The fact may as well be recognized and our course adapted accordingly."
+++
December 20 - At a press conference in Chicago, structural engineer Joseph Strauss unveiled his plans for what would be the world's longest bridge, a span over the "Golden Gate", the strait between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. "If and when erected," The New York Times noted, "the structure will be the greatest in point of magnitude and span in the world." Construction would begin ten years later and the bridge would open in 1937.

Januar 9 - Die interalliierte Reparationskommission behauptet, die Weimarer Republik halte absichtlich Lieferungen zurück.
+++

March -28 As speculation mounted into the morning, rumors over a final agreement between Tarzan Tinapay and San Francisco became a reality, with the star opting for a $111,000 deal over 8 years.
+++
March 29 - New York fans celebrated as word of a signing became reality. Cliff Heathcote won't be pulling up stakes anytime soon, as he has signed a 8-year extension at a pay rate of $14,800 per annum. With this he is one of the highest paid players of the league.
Since he is widely seen as an integral part of the club, New York officials had to keep Heathcote from jumping ship.

An Evening with General David H. Petraeus
COMMENTARY: Here's a couple of things about Petraeus congruent with the Oliver Stone version of Vietnam, It isn't wrong, per se. It's just not the entire picture, First of all, I am an Army brat and when I was grrowing up, Counter-Insurgency was the sexy career path of West Point graduates, in particular the exploits of the Green Berets. Patraeus's re-issiue of the COIN manual, and all the things he specified should have been don in Iraw from the get-go, was stuff we were doing in Vietnam as part of the Nation Building mission until the Diem brothers were assassinated 19 days before JFK, Food on him, but what occuured in the interval is largely a consequence of the influsence of the Harvard MBA programs and Bill Buckley's Conservative nazification agenda from 1960, That isn't Petraesu's fault, but he is a product of the All Volunteer Army that was weaned on the mytho that draftees fucked up Vietnam, In addition, he and McChrystal were still at West Point when Ayn Rand presented her Philosophy: WHo Needs it? adress from the sae podium MacArthur delivered his Vlaedictory in May 1962, In this address, Rand introduced the libertarian logic of the Virtue of Selfishness into the stoic ethos of that DEI cultue, 2 years later, 80 cadets were separated for Honor's violations, You can intuit vibrations of Rand's Ojbectivism throughout his career. And this conversation, In JFK, Oliver Stone depicted generals agitating for sustaining the Vietnam presence to support their sponsors in the Military Industrial Complex in opposition to the myth that FFK was getting ready to withdraaw. As an Army brat, this has always been offensive to me because it is only half true, Between 1954 and 1962, the mission of Military Assisatance Grop - Vietnam was exactly thesame nation builkding mission as the Korea - Military Assistance Group's continuing mission, In 1982, Norah O'Donnell was an Army brat with her father in Korea. In 1962, I had freinds who wer stationed in Saigon when the godless commie cocksuckers in Hanoi declared their intent to conquer the Republic of Vientam by tossing hand grenades into Saigon theaters. The Army evacuated the dependents in 24 hours. Between then and November 3, 1963, there was a vigorous debate in the Pentagon between officers dedicated to continuing the Nation Building doctrine of Geore Marshal versus Robert MacNamara's Harvard educated Whiz Kinds, which included Les Aspin, who wanted to conduct a European battlefield featuring strategic air power, They were backed up by right wing generals like Curis Leman and the darling of the Dallas John Birch Society, Edwin Walker, The Harvard Whiz Kids won the debate when agents of the John Birch Society in State and Bay of Pigs cowboys from the CIA engeineered the assassination of the Diem brothers. As Ken Burns pointed out in Vietnam, they had blind-sided Kennedy with a proposal to replace the Saigon government with American puppets in a proposal that was mis-characterized as a finding and Kennedy, on vacation, initialed it. From then until patraesu re issued the COIL FM for the Surge, COIC was sheved and the war proceeded as reported/ One other thing Patraeus got wrong was that Vietnam was a battle of attrition with North Vietnam, By 1965, the Army's stategy was a battle of attrition with the Soviet economy by proxy in the larger Cold war,We lost the battelr of Vietnam when the Diem borthers were assassinated, We betryaed out essential ideaals, The BIG IDea was George Marshall’s Nation Building which we abandoned for a replay of WWII that General Giap defeated in 1954, By 1970, as a consequence of the success of this strategy and Apollo 11, both Breshnev and Mao concluded that Marxism is untenable and joined with Nixon in a global aspiration to transform the Military Industrial Complex into the Aerospace-Entrepreneurial Martrix necessary to sustain a lunar colony for 100 years in a campaign to realized Wernher von Braun's vision in Das Marsprojekt,' Elon Musk's father named him for the heor of that novel. Apollo 11 was Stage 1 of that process. Affirmative Action is Stage 2, If Carter had been reelected, we would have been to Mars in the last 40 years. The nazification agenda of the Supply Side Marxism of what has become Project 2025 has prevented that from happening and everyhting Elon Musk and his Muskrats at DOGE are doing is blowing up the socio-economi Matrix we need to get to Mars. That's not Patraeus's fault,, but the military has been perfectly content to allow the agents of Bill Buckley's Conservative nazification agenda pull them around by their collective peckers since 1975 becaus of the Democrat's refusal to extend military support to Saigon after Watergate. Westmoreland was not the problem: he was perfectly subordinate to his poltical masters. The problem was the Harvard educate Whiz Kids, who became useful idiots to the nazification agenda of the John Birch Society, In the fian analysis, Vietnam was aontext between Marxism and the Harvard MBA program and Marxism won, ' And Bill Buckley's Conservaive nazification agenda just elected a clone of Joe McCarhy for POTUS.
