are you normal or did you feel melancholy when you realized that the historical figures you think of as the "young generation" due to the time period you engage with, were one day the old ones? because i saw art of lafayette and washington's aides de camp right above art on henry clay's generation and it hit me like a sucker punch.
yes they are all dead white men from over a century ago but damn. alexa, play the times they are a-changin.
#i just imagined lafayette on his tour of america as an old man thinking about washington hamilton laurens PLS#the brain rot seeped in too much#why is this making me emotional wtf#Your old road is rapidly aging. every once in a while i get antebellum posts on my feed and i'm like... yes....i see some names....i may have seen before....IS THAT JOHN QUINCY ADAMS SON OF JOHN ADAMS? THANK GOD I RAN INTO YOU, LET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR FATHER REAL QUICK
i suddenly become the world's biggest elitist. if you aren't the child of an important revolutionary war figure then i don't know or care about you!
every single day i tell myself i will get into antebellum era and unlock a whole new world of history tumblr content and every single day i end up rereading the same letters from the same 20 people i already know. once i figure out what tf was in the 1790s philadelphian air i promise i will join y'all! 19th century politics you will not escape me further.
#my knowledge of calhoun jackson clay and such is so rudimentary. like ap us history level.#i need to dig into their brains but unfortunately amrev still has a death grip on me#“oh you must be well versed in history” well actually this one specific period! yes!#amrev#amrev fandom#antebellum#19th century rpf

My god this is so them so funny
Last spring I wrote a paper for one of my classes about Lincoln and Seward’s relationship (argued that JWB targeted Seward on April 14, 1865 because of his publicly close relationship with Lincoln) which gave me an excuse to dig through Southern newspapers during the Civil War to see what was published about Lincoln and Seward. SO MUCH FUN.
This was one of the sources I ran across and referenced (purely because of the amusement it provided) and thought I’d share this perfect description of Lincoln’s cabinet as it existed in March 1865 from the Richmond Daily Dispatch. The bit about Chase “evidently reflecting that he ought to be in Lincoln’s place” is probably my favorite part. It’s so him.
Credit to the wonderful All Things Lincoln blog for (unknowingly & unintentionally) giving me the idea to post this after alluding to a bit more of the pettiness in Lincoln’s cabinet in their reblog of my last post.

Fastest Growing Fandoms on AO3 This Week (03/25/2024)
Every week I pull data on how many fics are in each fandom and compare to the previous week, then calculate the percentage increase to determine fastest growing fandoms. Since this naturally skews towards smaller fandoms, I have included the same data filtered to Over 1k, 5k, & 10k fics.
Overall:
Over 1,000 Fics:
Over 5,000 Fics:
Over 10,000 Fics:

So... about my discovery from last night...
Francis Rawdon Moira Crozier, Aglooka*, the Strider. The man who walks toward dreams and never quite reach it.
Sir James Clark Ross, Augliecaq**, the Bold Hunter. The man who chases his dreams and conquers them.
Aglooka, lost in the Arctic, eternal wanderer.
Augliecock, who hunts him down.
Do you see it? Do you see the vision?
(Anyway! I was very excited to learn JCR's secret Inuit name last night and... RPF IS FINE! OK?! IT'S FINE!!)
*Disclaimer: Aglooka seems to be a common name for many british officers. While Mr. David C Woodman proposed this might have applied to Crozier, it remains speculative.
**Disclaimer: Robert Huish attributed the pseudonym of to Augliecock to JCR. He wrote his version of John Ross's second voyage (The last voyage of Capt. Sir John Ross, R.N) based, on the testimony of the Steward on board of the Victory, a Mr. Light. The book itself tends to be a critic to John Ross's command an many of the events recounted match to the T with John Ross's account. To the point where I wonder how the Steward got so many copies of the scientific observations... half convinced Mr. Light was a JCR simp (aren't we all) and read his journal one day 😅
The name Augliecock is also the englicised version of the pseudonym and could very well also have been Agluukkaq - Aglooka... BUT I HAVE A VISION OK!!??
#RPF#This is who I have become... 😳#19th century dead sailors#Rossier#James Clark Ross RPF#Francis Crozier RPF#Not tagging this with their regular tag because I have doubts about the whole Augliecock thing and this is just me being... oh! you kno!#I may or may not have made this post for SwanFloatieKnight... you sir are an inspiration

dk why I didn’t rp this
Some Charles Sumner x Salmon Chase for privatepenne.
Indeed, Chase’s a better wife for Sumner than Alice Hooper. (who in turn is still a better option than Jefferson Davis, because f*ck Jefferson Davis)
