i'm starting to think you have a bias, anon.

the Dawn Machine is an interesting one. i love a sick ai and false god, so of course i'm very fond of it, but i wish we got more chance to explore its own perspective and thoughts. despite the whole brainwashing thing, the Machine often feels very remote when it comes to dealing with the New Sequence; to some extent, i'm not entirely convinced it's really in control of its own cult.

i think a lot about how in Sunless Skies, the New Sequence has spread to a prominent role in society, and where are the admiralty that used to squat on the Grand Geode now? not at the Clockwork Sun. their god is dying, but now that the higher-ups have the high status and wealth they were promised, they're happy to leave its care to a handful of overworked, underresourced engineers and a single priest. makes you wonder. in so many real cults, the leaders care less about the faith than all the power and riches that they can convince people they should have.

why is the Clockwork Sun so in denial about the fact that it's dying? is it only because it would be admitting that it's not powerful enough to be a real Judgement? or is some part of it afraid that if it did try to call on its flock to save it, they, the ones who swore to serve it, wouldn't come?
