Hi Hello i am a bit new to your blog and the TKC tumblr fandom in general but can I just say I LOVE your sadie/walt/anubis stuff??????????? Like sometimes I have a bit of a hard time with that ship but????? Your art??????? Your depictions????? Your hcs??????????? I am eating them up so violently you have no idea. Gnawing at the bars of my cage whenever I see it on my feed. Absolute mastermind /pos
Aaa thank you! I'm so glad you like them! Anubis doesn't have a lot of personality in the books so I kinda started at "Well, this guy invented mummification, right? So he must enjoy something about that process." Then I started extrapolating like crazy. THE BOY LOVES BIOLOGY, IT IS LAW. (slams gavel)
Sadie/Walt/Anubis is kind of weird to think about but Rick did at least try to come up with a reason for Anubis to basically be a teenager, so I'm willing to meet him in the middle there and accept it.
Doesn't explain why Anubis dresses in modern clothes when Sadie first meets him... then again, if he's watching the dead file in one-by-one, of course he's seeing fashion trends change in real-time. I'm sure the dead folks he talks to tell him about pop culture and fashion stuff too.
Ooh... Maybe he doesn't keep track of what time period everyone is from, so his understanding of what the World of the Living is like (before hitching a ride on Walt) is kind of an anachronistic mess. He knows people from the 1800s and from the 2000s, and that's only a measly 200 years apart, surely their cultures are basically the same? Something else to maybe play around with in the future.
As for how he looks, the design for Anubis I use is shamelessly lifted from Tumblr user @feeshies whose depictions of the Egyptian Gods delight me to no end. I especially love his Set stuff. He hasn't posted TKC in a while now, so here's a direct link to his TKC tag.

Vikings + gen z slang
Summary: How Vikings Characters would react to Gen Z slang
Notes: back on working on requests, so i hope i can get some more oneshots out soon. happy lunar new year to everyone who celebrates!!
Tagged: @majesticwren @obsessiveformiyatwins @leithdragon @demon-of-the-ancient-world @alicedopey @ivarlover @levithestripper @batmandallyboy @akayxo09 @vrtualfairy (hmu to be added to any taglist!)
Masterlist | based on this request | requests are OPEN!
Ragnar
With the program
He knows that he’s a slay-queen-girlboss-cunt-serving-camp
He understands gen z slang like no other
Rizz? He’s got it. Mister Worldwide? Been there, done that.
Turns into a ninth century (?) twitter queen
Lagertha
She doesn’t really care all that much about gen z slang
“You’re slaying? Me too, but on the battlefield. Catch up.”
Pretends not to understand
Fully understands and sometimes busts down on her gen z meme culture knowledge
Aslaug
Aslaug is above gen z slang
But she also knows that she’s camp
She just knows
She’s a volva, magic is in her blood. You know what else is? An immaculate sense in fashion
That’s the only thing that might make her willing to try to understand our culture
Perfected the lightskin stare the moment she was born (it’s permanently on her face istg)
Athelstan
PLEASE NO
You know that ancient man video? Athelstan is the ancient man. Would he understand the video? No.
This would be his response: God, that girl looks terribly drunk.
As a linguist, he tries
Approaches it as a foreign language. It works to some degree.
I never want to hear the words “You’re serving girlboss today, Ragnar.” Out of his mouth
(this happened to me in a dream. Literally traumatizing)
Bjorn
Thinks it’s girlish (it is not)
Would say “You’re one of them queers?”
I mean yeah, but so is your mom.
Gen z talk isn’t cool enough for him (he’s suffering from Rollo’s internalized generational homophobia/gayness, give him some space)
Ubbe
Like a supportive mom
‘That’s wonderful sweetie. Now back to my casserole.’
Absolutely understands gen z slang after you teach him
Prides himself on having the most rizz
Boy you rizzed up a slave girl and your aunt calm down
Protects gen z slang against ivar like it’s cultural heritage
Hvitserk
Worst mistake you could make is teach him slang
He uses it
Just incorrectly
At all times
And does not care to be corrected.
Slang is a product of pop culture? Hvitserk is now making it HIS product
Deal with it (don’t. make him stfu pls.)
Sigurd
He’s one of those abcdefu people
The ones that are like ‘let me sing my new song for you, and if you don’t like it, I’ll pay for your gas’
So annoying
But also in an indie artist generational trauma daddy issues kind of way, so I can forgive him
Not really
Ivar
HATES gen z slang more than anything
He thinks it’s stupid
Dumb
Dull
Incredibly unintellectual
Secretly uses it to express his feelings in a diary he burns every week
Ecbert
ECBERT MY SILLY LITTLE GASLIGHT GATEKEEP GIRLBOSS
Manwhore and proud!
Get this man a gag asap or you’ll live to regret the day you met him
With him and Ragnar, you’re gonna be stuck in a little hellcircle (probably to be joined by Athelstan)
Gets acrylics despite not knowing what they are and clicks with them
STOP HIM! STOP THIS SILLY LITTLE MAN!
Aethelwulf
Literally the opposite of Ecbert
If he has to spend one more second around his father speaking slang
He’ll cut off his ear to match Judith
And then the other to outdo her (he’s such a loser smh)
So done with Ecbert
He’ll literally hate everything Ecbert likes

ive noticed some engagement on some of my monkees (shit)posts from way back in 2012/2013 — my 14/15 year old self. which is endearing, bc im aware the monkees fandom is still going, and is perhaps even more active than it was in my day. this did remind me of a @fansplaining article by allegra rosenberg / @areyougonnabe that i finally got around to reading earlier this week, the beatles live!
(i have no idea how long some of you have been here, so to recap i was fully obsessed with classic rock bands and 1960s/70s pop culture from like, 12 to 15 years old. profound impact on me in many ways, still love 60s/70s music, culture and history. also lmfao at my fandom of the last near-decade being sparked by a film set in the 60s. the several page video essay script about x-men first class' anachronistic 1960s fashion, which is sooo close to actually being filmed, will likely be the ultimate culmination of it all) the beatles were my first music fandom — while i still have feelings for the monkees [obviously, considering my ~12 year attachment to this url across nearly all of my social media] it is the beatles that i still have brain worms for. a tiny, isolated worm, but one nonetheless. so this article, i had to read.)
i was really taken by this section on the anachronistic modernizing of beatles fandom activities.
It takes a certain stripe of fannish brain to obsess over music from a bygone age instead of modern artists—taking something as broadly popular as classic rock and treating it with all the intimate, loving attention that other fans devote to a sci-fi television show, a fantasy book series, or a cult video game. These fans are cultural archaeologists, working with the materials of the past to create the passion of the present. The phenomenon is not limited to the Beatles. On TikTok, fans place meme tweets on pictures of the Stones and Bob Dylan; celebrate Freddie Mercury’s style; and make Monkees fancams. But the Beatles fandom is still top dog, with a kind of default dominance it retains from the dawn of Beatlemania. On Tumblr, you can find gifsets of Beatles movies, fanart, and the occasional Yoko Ono stan post, side by side with more typically Tumblr-esque wackiness along the lines of Paul McCartney posts tagged “#my twink wife”, “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” memes, and toxic yaoi polls.
it made me think about how this phenomenon — the blending of modern fan practices and modern pop culture (fancams, memes, insaneposting, etc) with classic rock fandom is not new (not that allegra insinuates it is — i am speaking generally), but is something that has been around for a while, and is something i participated in quite heavily when it came to monkees fandom. whether it was
editing a music video to the tune of marina + the diamonds
making art of mike nesmith as a genderbent marina + the diamonds analog
not to mention the entirety of the who (slight flashing tw)
creating mockups of a classic rock-themed homestuck/OFF/undertale/earthbound analog:
classic rock icons using homestuck icons as a base
blending classic rock into my ~aesthetic~ blog theme sensibilities:
this video where i did nothing but put the beginning of baby got back over a scene from the first episode of the monkees and the music lined up almost frighteningly well
or creating emo notepad screenshot aesthetic posts with quotes from head (1968)....
i was very invested in engineering (or maybe just yearning for + acting out desires?) a form of classic rock fandom that was "hip" to the modern fandoms i was aware of. this was likely inspired by the fact that monkees fandom at the time skewed older.
i cannot for the life of me find these accounts or screenshots of them, but i think the ultimate expression of this was a collection of twitter accounts i made as mockups of twitter stan accounts, modeled directly off of one direction accounts at the time. complete with icons that were cut-outs of musicians overlayed onto aesthetic background, and descriptions that noted how many times the musicians had interacted with them.
importantly, i could not have sustained this if not for the close friends i had at the time that were around my age and were on my wavelength, that supported it, commiserated with me, made lots — especially on the homestuck parts. even if it was a small thing, in a small fandom, it was a communal effort
idk. its interesting to see that these dreams of mine have now come to fruition.
abrupt stop, no conclusion bc this is just a post not an essay (a comment directed at my autistic ocd self). may be interesting to some of the nouveau classic rock fandom.

TF Rise of the Beasts: A Basic Guide to Writing/Drawing for Fashion in 1994
Someone sent me a message that has now disappeared (!!) which was asking for some tips on what was stylish in 1994, for the purposes of writing a time period accurate ROTB fic.
I'm sorry I don't remember their username otherwise I'd tag them, but I figured I'd provide some notes here just in case anyone else might find it helpful for ROTB fic writing or fanart! :)
1994 Style: The Coolest Magazines
So as far as I remember, there were three big fashion/culture magazines at the time:
Sassy Magazine - This one was aimed mostly at women, but was hugely popular and would be a good place to look for styles for Elena!
i-D Magazine - This is a British publication but had international distribution by the 90s. Most of their early 90s issues featured fashion shoots from both large brands and indie fashion houses, with an emphasis on styling outfits. The articles were pretty good, and covered pop culture, music, and other similar topics. This one includes styles for both men and women, and was one of the only mainstream magazines to include what would now be recognised as queer fashion (they featured Boy George etc. as cover models, too).
The Face - This one is also British but had international distribution, mostly in large cities like LA and New York (which means it's fine to reference for ROTB's setting). Similar to i-D, it featured articles on fashion, music, culture, and highlighted some subculture styles which were harder to find in other more popular magazines like Vogue at the time. This included more "casual" outfits being featured, typically as part of style guides. This one had men and women's fashion, and also featured queer celebrities or genderbending style!
And of course, any magazines from 1994 would be good to look through-- Just keep in mind that magazines like Vogue, Cosmopolitan, etc. were primarily aimed at women only (most of the menswear mags for fashion were still finding their audience at this time), and typically only featured higher end fashion, so not a lot of it was actually reflective of what people were wearing on the street.
Look at Sewing Patterns!
For the best idea of fashion and style in terms of what the average person was wearing in 1994, look up sewing patterns!
Simplicity and McCall's brand sewing patterns provide the best idea of what most people were wearing on a day to day basis.
General Style Notes
Patterned vests were in style for all genders. Typically this was layered over a long sleeved shirt or turtleneck. Some guys would just wear a vest over a tank top or even just by itself, but that was more rare. The backs of the vests were typically left plain, so the pattern was often only on the front of the vest. Some vests were made of velvet, or thickly embroidered fabric.
Denim!!! Oh my god, people loved denim. Denim everything. Double denim (jeans and a jean jacket or a denim shirt) was a popular look, although this started to taper off gradually. Usually this was styled with a patterned vest, scarf, or accessorised with a felt or denim hat.
In terms of fit, everything was slightly long, or slightly baggy. Sometimes both. Coats were baggy in the arm and shoulder, which was a carry over from the 80s trend of shoulder pads. Shoulder pads persisted into 1995-1998, mostly in women's wear, although men's jackets and suits often had high or wide shoulders too.
1994 is where fuzzy fabrics and nylon/synthetic fabrics started getting popular; This is most noticeable in the windbreaker trend, in which a lot of windbreakers were nylon/polyester or made of textured cotton/poly blends.
Quick note on early 90s synthetic fabrics: They hadn't gotten the textures quite right yet, so even though there were some minor improvements on the late 80s synth textiles, most of these fabrics were still terribly scratchy and somewhat uncomfortable to wear, unless you had a long sleeved garment underneath. This is why you might see a lot of people wearing multiple layers of long sleeved shirts or jackets, even though it might seem excessive!
90s synthetic fabrics tended to be scratchy and crinkly, and could actually cause skin irritation in some people if you were sweating a lot--Which is why you mostly see winter clothing made out of this stuff, they were intended to only be worn in layers. Most 90s jackets that used synthetic fabrics were shell jackets, meaning only the outer layer was synthetic and the lining was either polyester or cotton in most cases.
Popular department store brands were Tommy Hilfiger, United Colours of Benetton, Moschino, and Burberry.
Popular department stores were Dillards, Burdines, JC Penny, Macy's, and Bloomingdales.
Popular runways in 1994 were Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood, which were partially influenced by 80s punk and the new Grunge trend.
Bucket hats for adults were starting to become more popular, but they were already popular in children's wear, so Kris could have a bucket hat!
Facial piercings were not common, although they were starting to get a little more popular around this time. Typically this was only a nose piercing-- Anything other than that would get you stared at and judged pretty harshly. Only subcultures like goths or punks had multiple facial piercings, or lip rings/eyebrow piercings, for the most part.
Tattoos were also less common, unless you were in a particular style subculture.
Belts were a very popular accessory, with large belts and belted coats being super popular. Thinner belts were often worn two at a time, or a thin belt with an extra long end left hanging down out of a beltloop. Most jeans were worn belted, with the shirt tucked in.
There was a fine line between fitted and baggy and just looking messy-- This is why belts were so popular, as it helped create more shaping to big coats and shirts. This became less of a thing as the bagginess went out of style, but for a while a lot of people wore belts out of habit, even after clothing trends switched over to being more fitted.
Flannel shirts became huge amongst all genders, and were typically tied at the waist and not buttoned or left fully open. Men would wear flannel shirts tied at the waist, with a solid block colour t-shirt underneath.
Graphic tees existed, but were not actually as popular as they are today; They were considered more of a kid/teenager thing. Band shirts were ever-popular, though! The print technology/quality at the time was a little rough, so expect any graphic tees to deteriorate quickly after a couple washes-- It was normal to see most letters/designs very patchy or flaking apart on graphic tees, which is part of why so few of them survive in vintage stores today unless they were printed in a more high end way.
Patterned fabrics were big as a statement piece, and not just for vests. A patterned shirt or jacket would be paired with block colours, and typically any accessories would be made out of the same patterned fabric so they'd match. For women's wear, headbands and scrunchies would be made to match a shirt or jacket. For men's wear, a belt would sometimes be made out of the same fabric as a patterned shirt.
Converse shoes remained ever-classic, and were one of the most popular sneaker/trainer brands. Nike was also super popular. Kris might have had some light-up Nikes, as they were a top item for kid's clothing. "Street shoes" in general were pretty popular as part of an athletic and every day look. High tops were the most popular, but platform sneakers started to get pretty popular, too.
Short shorts and baggy shorts!!! For all genders! This was the summer look of 1994, tank top and patterned shorts with a long sleeve t-shirt tied at the waist over top. Knee length baggy shorts in patterned fabrics were super popular. Short shorts were typically for the workout/jogging crowd, but were fairly popular outside of that during summers.
Knits were pretty popular, especially with synthetic wool and acrylic textiles becoming more common. Patterned sweaters/jumpers and chunky knits were among the top sellers, but this started to taper off a bit towards the mid-90s as it was a hold over trend from the late 80s. They still remained a commonly worn item, though.
In terms of sunglasses, funky tint lenses were starting to get popular, with blue, yellow, pink, and green tint lenses in bottlecap sunglasses or round lenses being a significant trend for a while. Round lenses for sunglasses were fashionable, but people also wore Ray Ban Aviators as a style classic. Smaller lenses were getting more and more popular in general, leading to oval glasses with wire frames becoming a common glasses frame style for both sunglasses and regular prescription wear. This was in contrast to the 80s, were large plastic chunky frames were popular.
The trend of making everything a little longer and baggier than it needed to be applied to most clothing items, including pants/trousers-- Jeans were often cut a little long, so rolling up the cuffs made a come back for a while, and yes, patterned baggy puffy trousers were popular for a couple seasons (although 1994 would have been near the end of that trend).
In terms of fine textured hair, feathered and fluffy hair was the goal, with volume being the biggest consideration for all genders. For black hair, Bantu knots got pretty popular for a while (you can see this reflected in some film/media well into the late 90s/early 2000s), and natural hairstyles were starting to make a big come back in contrast to the highly permed 80s.
For accessories, headbands, hats, and necklaces/bracelets were the big ones (as belts became less popular over time). Earrings tended to be plain hoops/studs or big chunky statement earrings, with very few options in between. Clip-on earrings were still really popular at this time. Fake small hoop earrings were also worn, instead of getting multiple ear piercings. For men, ties and scarves were the key accessories. Digital watches became popular accessories for all genders, and were part of both casual and professional wear.
Socks! White or black, almost always cotton. Sometimes white with a couple stripes at the top. Leg warmers were more of an 80s thing, although in some areas they were still worn in 1994, typically only as part of gym gear by this time but sometimes outside of that. Knee high socks started getting popular (especially paired with shorts or skirts), and socks in weird colours or patterns also started getting more popular, but they weren't super common and tended to be hard to find or more expensive. White socks with lace tops were popular among little girls and teens, whereas the sporty striped socks were more often found in men's departments.
Leggings as they exist today were not a thing outside of the gym, same with yoga pants-- Instead, it was just tights. Thick, relatively uncomfortable tights. These were usually office wear or for special occasions, or when someone felt like dressing nicely. The skin colour ones mostly went out of fashion for casual wear and were mostly for office attire; Thick black tights that you couldn't see through were the default for most casual outfits around this time. Some people still wore the skin colour ones for casual outfits, but the black ones were seen as more stylish for most of what was in style.
Colour palette: You had three main options -- Denim, Block Brights, and Earth Tones. There were of course other options, but these three are probably the most common. Pastels and block brights were especially popular for kids.
Makeup trended towards natural looks or Earth tones. Burgundy shades were popular lip colours, and browns were popular eyeshadows. If you wanted to look cutting edge, you went for metallic eyeshadows in blues, with a sharp orange-red lip colour-- But this was not an every day look! Blush was used, but sparingly, unless you were going out for an event. Subcultures had their own distinct makeup preferences, which did not generally permeate popular style guides. The modern internet makeup guru culture did not exist, and most people got their makeup advice from magazines, close friends, or TV shows. Avon makeup was popular, as was Clinique. Drug store brands included Eckerds, which was an affordable option if you couldn't go to a department store.
For perfumes, CK One and Tommy were among the most popular. Calvin Klein was a mainstay in perfumes, following the success of their perfume Obsession in 1985, which is a scent that most people will associate with that decade! A lot of people continued to use it well into the 90s.
This is all I can think of at the moment, but I wouldn't mind adding more if this was helpful or interesting for anyone! :)

hello! welcome to my fashion doll haus!
💌 if you have any questions or requests my ask box and dms are always open!
💋nsfw blogs (even ones that post doll content) please do not reblog my posts
👛 if you do not want to see dolls that have any blood or gore or general creepiness; block the tag #horror dolls (as of now I only have Living Dead Dolls in that tag but that may change)
👠 brands like Rainbow High, LOL, and Na! Na! Na! dolls are more likely to have exact parallels and references. other brands like Barbie, Monster High, and sometimes Bratz are more likely to have fashion pieces that are not direct copies, but more like inspirations (keep this in mind if you see a post and think it’s similar but not the same!)
🛍️ sometimes I will also post non-fashion references, these may be things from pop culture to food to random accessories some dolls come with
💄 if you like this kind of doll fashion x real life fashion content you should follow my friends! @toychest321 and @dollyprescriptions <3 they are amazing!

welcome to hockeygoss222, so happy you’re here! ⭐️🤍🌺☮️
about me:
I’ve been on tumblr since January 2022 when i became obsessed with dead poets society (and possibly before that but i can’t really remember) I found hockey tumblr this past summer (2024) and have finally decided to go ahead and make a blog dedicated to hockey since I thought it looked really fun! I don’t feel comfortable sharing my age or my name but please note that I am under 18 (not too far from it before anybody claims i’m a 14yr old who is delusional) Besides hockey, I am extremely interested in music & movies and love anything that has to do with vintage fashion, art, pop culture, celebrities, astrology, and cameras! I got into hockey in late April early May of 2023 and am still learning as I go on. And before I get asked, my favorite Hughes brother is Luke (if you couldn’t tell) but it used to be Jack! (also if you follow this blog & you get a follow back from a different profile please note that it is still me! i have a thing pinned on the other one saying it’s me! also i can’t remember who made the dividers but all credit goes to them!!)
please note:
I don’t want any racism or homophobia on my page! All feelings are valid and welcome here! This is a safe space and always will be! As well as I don’t feel comfortable with any hate or discrimination toward anons or anybody who says something that you do not like! We are allowed to voice our opinions and have different perspectives but please say it nicely! There is no need for a negative reaction to something! Along with that, do not hate on me if I say something that you do not agree with. We can have friendly discussions, debates, and disagreements! Please remember that is all alleged and just purely speculation! I do not have ill intentions towards these people and neither should you, we do not know them! Sip or Spit is a great motto to have when it comes to gossip in general, as well as taking things with a grain of salt. Not everything on here is true, but also not everything on here is a lie !
asks:
I am fine with asks about Jack & Sammy, Vince & Daniella, Mat & Maya, and Trevor & Dixie but please don’t spam me asking stuff about them!!You can find other accounts who are willing to talk about them and most likely know more than I do ! And I won’t post asks that have any users of any private accounts (ex: sammy’s spotify or pinterest) as I feel that’s a breach of privacy. I understand lurking (I am guilty of it as well in the past) but please keep it to yourself! I’ll make sure to tag any ask to keep it organized!
Again, this is all alleged and purely speculation! At the end of the day we do not know these people ! Have fun, and welcome to hockeygoss222!! peace & love to you all ⭐️🤍🌺☮️

What made you decide to host original fiction on AO3? You're the first (favorite) author doing serial original fic online that I think of these days, though I've not dabbled since independent domains were the most common strategy. I'm hoping to make progress on a project of my own in the soon, but am having trouble finding sites without fairly restrictive content policies--are there/were there other contenders for hosting Fae Tales that would have let you go so dark, or is it AO3 or bust?
Hi anon!
I think from your tone, you're starting off with the assumption that I was trying to be a professional writer and then chose AO3, and that's not the path I took at all!! No one in their right mind generally chooses AO3 if they want to make a profit off of their original writing for a lot of reasons, and a lot of fanfiction authors leave AO3 so they can make a profit off their original writing (and some do both - write fanfic under one name, and original fiction under a completely different name. My path isn't even the mainstream fanfic writer's way of breaking into original fiction, lol).
So my journey was basically that:
I was writing fanfiction on AO3 that became quite popular in its small fandom, and I put two OCs (Original Characters) into that story that got especially popular and started getting fanart during the fanfic. A few people at the time said 'I ship these two' and I was like 'eh I don't want to write it.' And then in typical fandom fashion eventually I was like 'okay I'll just give it a try.'
I wrote several PWP hatefucking chapters mostly to see if they even really worked as a couple (they did!) - since they weren't a couple in the fanfic, they were mortal enemies, lol - and these chapters popped off among a very small number of people and I thought 'you know what, these characters deserve an actual story, because I don't want their tale to have a tragic ending' (which it would have done).
So I wrote more of the story, and eventually I got a message from a reader saying 'hey can you open a Patreon account so we can support your original writing, because it doesn't feel fair that we're getting all of this for free.'
So I opened a Patreon account.
And then about 3 years later I thought 'actually...I think I can turn this into a proper job.' And I...tried lol. It's not a very 'proper job' by the standards of people who started original writing purely for income, but it is quite a proper job for me, lol. I still write fanfiction because I love it.
I never chose AO3 as a place to build a career exactly, I just put original fiction there because that's where the readers were who already liked the original characters, and it didn't make sense to put it anywhere else. I also never expected at the time to make a formal leap into original fiction, I was actually planning another fanfic and then got completely derailed because we were all enjoying Fae Tales so much.
I stay there because I can post any fictional content I like pretty much - no matter how taboo - without fear of reprisal from the site or fear of having my account banned etc. for content. I stay because the warning and tagging system is the most sophisticated in the world. I stay because the search system is also the most sophisticated in the world. I stay because I love the spirit of fandom, and the people who find my original fics there already understand reading serials and WIPs and ongoing stories. I stay because I really enjoy AO3 comment culture, which is uniquely different to anything else anywhere on the internet, but especially other free serial sites like Wattpad, Royal Road, Inkitt and more. I stay because having to invite people to come to my Tumblr to see my posts and excerpts and sometimes find out about Patreon is a feature and not a bug, because it means the people who eventually find their way to my Patreon probably want to be there more than the average reader who never needs to leave AO3.
I stay there because Wattpad needs incredibly short chapters and I like longer chapter lengths (and long serials). I stay there because the comment culture of Royal Road is a lot of 'um, actually' folks alongside some decent folks, and you really have to love constant constructive (and not so constructive) criticism even on your most viral stories, and I am baby. I stay on AO3 because my friends are there, and so are many other folks who I enjoy the thoughts and company of.
To my knowledge, the only other place that allows really taboo content officially (i.e. not 'it's against the rules but everyone does it') is probably Ream, which is a subscription site like Patreon. And they're very recent. I will be setting up a mirrored version of my Patreon account there for all the folks who can't access Patreon due to like...credit card / bank reasons.
If you want to write a super dark, taboo serial, there aren't many free serial sites in the world where that's truly okay. I'm going to take some risks on Wattpad soon with the Fae Tales canon and we'll see how we go, lmao. AO3 is particularly unique because it started for many of us fanfiction writers who were getting banned and censored on other fanfiction and fandom platforms (like Livejournal Strikethrough, which was a huge historical event in fandom around censorship), so it literally - in many ways - was invented to protect and give space to the people who are writing adult or taboo fanfiction (and then later also original fiction). It is designed to be a safe haven for those of us who understand that fiction is just fiction when it comes to sexual fantasy content.
In the past year I have considered other dedicated serial sites for my content and frankly I don't believe any of them are 'safe' for me re: the nature of my writing (I don't feel my writing is as dark as some, but it certainly has 'rape as titillation' quite a bit, and pretty broad scale dubcon). Royal Road doesn't suit my genre/s, Inkitt is possible, but I'm not sure if my work will do well there, Wattpad is a risk but is huge and I'm not mad if my account gets banned there, Tapas allows some taboo, but is very clear that it wants no serials intended for the purpose of sexual gratification and requires 500-1500 chapters maximum, which is a bit of a downer for someone like me who has 3-10,000 word chapters, lol.
If you want to be a professional writer of adult sexual/taboo content who makes money off your writing, I wouldn't recommend hosting your works on AO3, I'd recommend publishing novels and when you have enough of a backlist, potentially offering chapters of future novels as early access on Ream (Patreon will actually also ban accounts with taboo content if you're hosting it on Patreon - and while most of us are safe at the moment, they get stricter over time).
AO3 is, imho, a great place for original authors who already love writing fanfiction or reading fanfiction, and already love fandom, and want to participate in the culture with original stories. Readers on AO3 are very savvy, clued-in people who are overall likely to be suspicious rather than welcoming of original fiction on AO3 in general (many refuse to read it outright), and who also can tell when a newcomer author is just there to try and make a profit off them. But they are also some of the most ride or die, wonderful, best readers in the world once they love your work. (I know this from experience as a reader too, lol, I am ride or die for a few authors there myself).
That doesn't mean it can't be done, it just means there's a steep learning curve re: fandom etiquette (thoroughly worth it, do recommend it, it just will take some time - months, not weeks - to feel it out). AO3 also strongly prefers/requires all original fiction there be posted 'in the spirit of fandom' - which has broad interpretations, but it does mean an effort needs to be made to at least understand and enjoy fandom.
But yeah if you're purely professional career focused, AO3 is not a first-line strategy imho. That's why...there's not many people doing it this way - even viral fanfiction authors don't do it this way, anon, when they decide to writing original fiction based off their fanfiction success. Use Smashwords, Ream, your own host site for direct sales etc. there are erotica and dark fantasy authors who are making WAY more money than I am using paths like this.
I love my path, I love it, and I do believe more people could use it and make it work, but I'll be honest with you - I know I could be making more money if I chose different paths, I'm on this path because it's fun.
#asks and answers#pia on writing#pia on publishing#my path is 'oh god i tripped and fell into getting paid for my writing by accident'#'oh shit actually i think i'm going to make this a job'#at no point did i ever make a smart business decision because i was always just#following the readers and what they wanted#because i was (and am) having so much fun with them#i've been making a few more *deliberate* business decisions lately#but only if they don't compromise my ethics and purpose#which means there are plenty of times i've chosen a path that doesn't give me as much money#or *any money*#which is not how most of y'all are doing this dsalkfjasdfa

hiiii :3 I wanted to ask, where do you get the stuff you post here? I'd love to be able to find stuff to submit/use as drawing inspo, but I don't really know where to look
GREETINGS! Finally getting around to answering this BUT here are the most common ones I use :)
VOGUE Runway! Has collection pics for pretty much every new major designer collection as well as some lesser known ones and some old shows. You need to make an account bc Conde Nast is annoying about letting you view their content but it's free
Pinterest! Generally if you look at a lot of fashion content there you start getting even more of it in your feed and it helps you find some pretty wild stuff. I recommend starting by searching stuff like "90s supermodels", "90s runway fashion", designer names, etc.
Old streetwear magazines like FRUiTS. It's kinda hard to find scans but they're out there!
DAZED Fashion (dazeddigital.com)
Watching the red carpet whenever there's a big pop culture event like the MET Gala
Researching eras of fashion history and specific styles/brands/pieces/designers like Nudie Cohn, Pierre Cardin, etc.
Searching up runway/fashion tags here on Tumblr!
There are specific brands/online shops that are good to look out for, like AREA NYC, Lirika Matoshi, and Fashion Brand Company
There are some indie designers on Depop who make really cool stuff but it can be a bit hard to find them

She Stoops To Heist - character introductions
my current writing project is in the idea stage, it's a heist comedy television series. I have a few arcs planned out, most of the characters are planned out, their individual arcs need some work tho. To start with, I'll introduce you to the main cast now! (i used picrew to give the general idea. other sketches can be available soon)
Jean - the Group's De-facto Leader and Actress
A struggling actress working as a waitress in a dingy diner. She lives in a suburb of the Bay Area with her roommate Blaine. She aspires to the finer things in life, and often comes up with alter egos when she's bored. Her interests include fashion and disguises, as well as Shakespeare, tragedies, and dramas. She often annoys her friends with impromptu performances. She can be described as standoffish, but is very open and lively with her friends. Her style can be described as a blend of vintage Americana and modern femme fatale. Her music taste consists of musical theater, lounge rock, and a type of music that can be affectionately referred to as an aging opera singer singing to an empty theater she once ruled.
Blaine - Sleight of Hand, Logician, Dead Language Expert
Jean's roommate Blaine is a librarian who spends his offtime with his nose in a book. He tags along with Jean and crew because of his neverending thirst for knowledge. And he didn't didn't want Jean to leave him with the lease. He enjoys old detective novels, and knows a lot of random knowledge on different topics, from history and language to fiction and media. He's sorta shy, a little clumsy from time to time, but he has a big heart and loves his friends to death. His style is best described as dark academic, poet, and bookish. His preferred music is 70s soul, indie rock, and young adult contemporary.
Frontier - Hacker, Gadgeteer, Programmer
Frontier is a programmer who was working a coding job, but as is the nature of corporate tech jobs, he was under constant crunch time. Despite working long hours, he still was stuck in poverty and was barely getting by. Due to this constant state of stress, he is noticeably more lax than the rest of the cast. He enjoys romcoms and reality television, as well as the history of tech and electronics. His defining accessory is an ear antenna. His style is best described as cybernetic, retro, and grunge. His favorite music is EDM and house music.
Mistletoe - Gymnast, Mechanic, Tight Spaces
Mistletoe, sometimes Misty for short, was Jean's coworker at the diner, and her work bestie. Her reason for joining Jean is twofold, she has a thirst for adventure and wants to keep hanging with Jean. The second reason is quite sad, but she is also fleeing an abusive relationship. This will get focused on, but will be more subtextual to avoid crossing any lines, and more focused on the effects the relationship had on her. Her interests include conspiracy theories, though she doesnt believe them, and animated movies as well as cartoons. She is a little hyperactive, enjoys cartoonish violence, and plays her "cute card" but has a dark side to her. Her style is best described as cutesy, indie, and colorful. Her music taste is bubblegum pop and rave jams.
Lilith - Skillmonkey with a focus on demolitions
One half of the skillmonkey twins, Lilith was part of Jean's original trio. She has a wide variety of skills, depending on what the group needs at any point. Her specialty is demolitions. She dabbles in goth culture. She's friendly, but guarded. She is very good at cooking and baking, and she's often spending her free time in the kitchen. She also enjoys reading and writing. Her style is described as goth, grunge, and general alternative. Her preferred music is post punk and goth rave.
Edgar - Skillmonkey with a focus on mimicry
Edgar and Lilith were Jeans original partners, and are along for the ride because of their shared history. They also owe Jean. Edgar's specialty is mimicry and ventriloquism. His main interest is music, and he enjoys lots of genres. He also enjoys horror movies and the history behind horror media. He's sort of stoic and not easily startled. He is very open and loves getting to know people. His style is described as punk and grunge. His music taste is a mixture of genres, but primarily listens to punk from the 70s to modern and 90s jungle beats.
Feedback welcome! I don't expect this to get a lot of traction tho.

{DigiAdv tri.} ~ Koushiro + OUTFITS ~ My {Personal} Preferences (for Koushiro’s outfits!) + + Koushiro & Jou / {Supportive} Moments & Interactions + Koushiro & Takeru / {Supportive} Moments / Materials + Pre-Bokura no Mirai DigiFes {+Shirt!} Poster (The shirt Koushiro’s wearing was later, iirc, released as official {+Tri} merch at DigiFes, an “irl” event in Japan!) {Real-Life Japan Event} Kokuhaku’s ending theme also helped to promote the same shirt. + (Tri!)Koushiro’s Character Traits (& Mini-Analysis)
My Commentary:
Like, some of the obvious POP culture references / in-jokes some of the other ‘outfits’ had aside, most of these outfits actually looked quite reasonable (and comfy, imo!! - which is pretty much the point I think Koushiro was going for?!??) and I could easily see Koushiro wearing some/most any of these canonically at various points of Koushiro’s tri. and post-tri. teen-aged lifetime, even just purely for fun. Heck, I’ve seen fan-artists (including on the J.P.N end and even in / using specifically their Tri-esque designs / outfits) draw Koushiro in MULTIPLE outfits like this!
{I kind of think the “King” outfit SHOULD stay, though.}
Also, the kimono choice is, like, fine? Koushiro’s Japanes---?
I’m just saying OK!!! Yes!! #LETKoushiroHaveFunWithFashion
Bonus:
(From my previous Koushiro compilations!)
{Gifs by Me} {DO NOT RE-POST} {DO NOT REPRODUCE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION} (Please ASK to Use)
{Anyway, Koushiro Izumi says Gender Identity rights---}
OK but Mainly I want to know which animator/Clothing Designer (as I’ve seen exist from some Tri and etc. Staff listings) specifically was involved in this specific segment / outfit set because they were clearly having a BLAST designing Koushiro like 20+ random outfits and honestly, as a Koushiro fan who has supported Koushiro since finding this series in my childhood I CAN’T actually blame them?? (You don’t even HAVE to use / consider every single one there, even TRI!KOUSHIRO doesn’t canonically use all of these!!)
{This is more of a quick compilation; I might expand on this post in the future and re-post it.}
I could also relate everything to do with motor skills and fine motor skills involving clothing and Autism when it comes to certain Autistic head-canons I may have, including buttoning clothes, but that might be a topic for another day...
(Do you see how the shirts TAKERU AND JOU actively help pick out FOR KOUSHIRO are comfy, A more baggy plain blue pullover (Takeru) and the DigiFes tee (Jou), without buttons?) {Despite the initial goal being to look for “fashionable” clothing!}
{usage may be allowed IF PERMISSION IS ASKED TO USE.}
{Please also LIKE this post if you are wanting to use!} {Once you have “Liked”, feel free to contact me to ask for permission!} {However, read my about & FAQ pages first. Please DO NOT use / ask if you match anything in my “Do Not Interact” section.} {I MAY POLITELY DECLINE USAGE REGARDLESS. Please do not take it personally!} {if you are unsure if you can use you can SEND ME AN ASK} {I will check your blog; if you do not match anything on my “DNI”; [CHECK THE FAQ FOR MY DNI SECTION/S] you will likely/may pass the check and can use!} {However please note my ENTIRE FAQ sections on such} {It is possible I may not grant permission for other reasons} [i.e.: You post a lot of something I have blacklisted]
PLEASE ALSO NOTE: {My headcanons for the characters of this series VARY} {for this set particularly; I headcanon most as M-spec/Multi-gender attracted*} {this post/my icons ARE NOT for people who cannot respect this fact or M-spec people / M-spec headcanons / MF relationships, Queer identities, etc. in general!}
[PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL AND FOLLOW MY RULES]
{This specific post is not purely meant as shipping Please be aware and respectful when interacting!} (However, I do side ship Joushiro, so I don’t mind if for example Joushiro gets tagged as a ship) {Just please understand that is not the main intention!}
