this is so off topic but I needed to vent somewhere, so turns out I am slowly realizing I have a thing for dude with long hair..

My childhood crush was Helia from winx and the only reason I watched winx was for HIM, I loved him so damn much dude.

just checking in to say i’m getting really into genshin rn. the game is a lot of fun, a lot like botw but the weapons don’t break and you have a team of 4 characters to cycle through, so i hate the combat less lol. tried out the wish/gacha system and it’s absolute dog shit, but luckily i like the main character and playing as him so i think ill be alright. don’t get me wrong i found out about razor like 2 days ago and im obsessed with him, but i can wait until luck is on my side. aether is cute too 🫶🏻

final fantasy x-2 is a stupid game where you have to press buttons unprompted at precise moments during emotional cutscenes in order to get story completion points and it's a silly game where you are in your most powerful form when dressed in a ridiculous mascot outfit and it's a brilliant game where turn-based and real-time combat intersect in interesting exciting ways and it's a shitty game where jumping off a platform takes thirty tries and it's a tragic game about how anyone could possibly overcome pain and loss and failure without being plagued by regret and longing and it's a hopeful game about a world learning to find joy and life again after a young girl saves it and it's about three cringey teenage magical girl best friends flying around the world doing literally whatever the hell they want on an insanely garish mountain-sized flying motorcycle thing and it's about collecting friends and family and building a home there. all this to say: it's a game about love. you get it

i have been scouring the cult of the lamb discord and i have been scouring the suggestions forums there and... well it has certainly been a time

so, opening discussion about ratau, the red fox, questline relating to that, and "consequences of actions" (spoilers ahead)(also i will get heated. this is not a hate post of any sorts, just me wanting to yap, you are free to disagree)(very long post ahead, there is a tl;dr at the end but it is not free of spoilers)

The red foxes questline works like any other npc, you give them stuff, and they give you pieces to get fleeces and such.

for his last one, he asks ratau, should you give the rat, you get a fleece piece, you get a follower form, and a little amount of lore by the lonely shack. if you do not, you get none of these, just a questline waiting indefinetly to be finished.

so why is this a big point of contention?

well, people wanting ratau to come back as a follower (a case i will not argue for nor against, i see value and merit in both answers) causes a stir, people discussing ratau dying in their game causes a stir.

"well its just the consequences of your actions"

so what actual consequences are there?

well. the knucklebones gang and ratoo wonder where ratau is, no clue to any of them about such ideas. you lose access to the easy mode of knucklebones (which, now that we have a knucklebones table at base barely matters since knucklebones difficulty scales with follower levels). you cant talk to ratau. you get a little awkward when ratoo mentions him and go "haha bye!", and possibly a sad feeling for when you do it.

but. but the game almost more rewards you than it punishes

the developers said that they wanted the player to make a "difficult decision" and this is why they wouldnt consider bringing him back, and people say that this is substantial consequence enough. but it does not change anything about how you play the game

"erm but the consequence is youre sad" for like a second. majority of players dont even find his notes, there are no LASTING consequences, just a small one.

like i want to apologize to all the ratau fans because every time i see anything about ratau, consequence people want others to be MISERABLE about him getting killed, and say that if you want to bring him back in a meaningful way of sorts (i saw an idea of having to fight the fox for ratau, ratau being angry at you and leaving and you get him as a follower after you apologize and get him out of all the bad status conditions and only then you get him) and STILL they get told "youre avoiding consequences"

i dont mean to be rude with this, but it will come across as such

THERE IS NO MEANINGFUL CONSEQUENCE TO RATAU'S DEATH RIGHT NOW.

ratau is little else than an obstacle in completion, or a character people project headcanons to, but there is NOTHING that changes your game in lasting and impactful ways, getting like 4 lines of dialogue, notes, and feeling sad that the lamb is crying is NOT a consequence, UNLESS you were emotionally attached to him, and you have VERY LITTLE REASON TO feel emotionally attached to ratau, he is just a tutorializer and gets barely any characterization, objectively more content for him would not hurt, he was the previous crown holder and didnt DIE for not doing things right by the one who waits? thats UNFATHOMABLY INTERESTING.

for shamuras sake, the RAINBOW WORM gets more consequences after you fight him, he is PERMANENTLY terrified of you, and even that is very little consequence, but its still more than ratau.

if we wanted to argue for consequences, its been suggested knucklebones gang would not let you into the lonely shack anymore, but my idea has always been to ratoo

ratoo, after some time would find out what happened to his brother, and when the lamb next enters his area "how dare you. you dare show your face to me after what you did to my brother, what you did to the little family i have, i should not let you use my kindness for those seeking refuge through these difficult lands for how you betrayed him

but

my brother would not have wanted you suffering either. and i cannot lie and say that seeing your face doesnt bring some sort of company to an old fool like me. so you are welcome here still. but do not mistake it for anything more than honouring my brother" and he no longer heals you to full health, only half of what you were missing

actual tangible long lasting consequence to what you did, it changes how gameplay works, you have actual pros and cons to weigh out should you look things up before playing the game.

tl;dr

ratau's characterization is pretty much entirely fanon. the consequences that are there are so minor a large part of the playerbase dont even consider them consequences, and as it stands hes treated as a much more important character compared to the screentime he does actually have. will not lie i did not hesitate in killing ratau off and that should not be the reaction to what the devs wanted to be a "difficult decision"

i love how undertale's fourth wall breaks and metanarrative work to make you sympathize more with the in-game characters. it'd be so easy to use that concept to make them seem more 'real' somehow or simply lean on the horrific side of this (and that concept did play a big part in the narrative) but ultimately, what undertale strives to do is to make you really, really care for these characters while always reminding you of their decidedly fictional nature, because you don't need to forget that in order to appreciate the game for what it is

im flattening again, and i have now lost count of how many times i’ve done this tbh! i feel like im faster now tho, and i actually dont hate the process of flattening at all anymore so i’ll share the order i do it in! i think flattening is kinda a lot the first or even second time you do it so yea, i’ve done it over 10 times and this is how i do it now☘️

step 1 is items.. i get rid of and/or store all items on the island as the first thing!

the storage sheds and largest amount of home storage are lifesavers! flattening used to be so much worse before 2.0✨

step 2 is rivers and ponds! i get rid of all water..

looks sad but instantly opens up your island! also makes you commit to flattening lol, no going back now👀

step 3 is buildings and bridges/inclines! get rid of them all, send them to the beaches! Its no longer that expensive honestly(used to be 50k to move a villager house im never forgetting it nintendo!)

this takes a while bc you can only move 1 building and remove 1 bridge or incline per day! However after these steps your island is already very empty, and at this stage i would normally pick out an area for my first new build and clear that first🪴

Somewhat related to the brain disease inducing discourse on twitter (of course, it’s twitter), Aphrodite is actually one of my favorite designs in Hades. Everyone is so adorned and detailed, but she’s unique because she’s completely naked, yet somehow her hair, headpieces, and accessories work perfectly in becoming the necessary details on her that perfectly captures her character the way all the clothing/armor/accessories in the other characters do. Something about her hair too like, it’s just straight hair that curls into hearts, but somehow it works. It completes her nakedness a way a statement clothing does??? Everything about this tie in to the original mythology too. I find it a genius design.

I must say that lately I've been too addicted to animal crossing to really have time to do anything else but one good piece of news is that I finally made some real progress on my book documenting my experience of seeing TMBG show recap post because I finished describing the pre-show stuff and the first set yesterday so I might finish it this week. I hope. The only problem is that it's already 9 pages long so in a way I'm not joking about how I could turn this into a book instead. And it's not my fault that the stage banter was so good that I'm probably going to end up transcribing like half of it at least.
