Do you think An's mourning went too quick?

if we consider the amount of time between lutf and oyf (a few days), then maybe. first off, you gotta consider genre and storytelling here. vbs is very shounen-like, not that i really know anything about manga but they're basically always working towards the goal, most conflicts are resolved within the event, maybe with some things lingering afterwards but the main conflict (for lutf it was obviously the truth around nagi's death) is always mostly/completely resolved.

also in terms of event pacing, the next event had to be their arc ender (both lutf and oyf are very clearly rushed but the 2nd arc enders are an issue with like 2 other units as well so this is not a vbs exclusive problem). they didn't have the time to stretch out an's grief to more events, plus there was already the in-universe issue of taiga leaving for the US like 3 days after lutf. and yes, an did have let's study hard, but that was always going to be 1-A focused since they didn't have an event yet and needed it before there was no more 1-A.

however, there are multiple card stories and area conversations that show an grieving, and we get to see this in events like break down the wall and the ending of over rad squad to some degree. obviously less intense since time has passed, but there's still an obvious impression that she's mourning nagi. also this.

and as i said earlier, maybe. people grieve differently and for different amounts of time. people will also show it differently. a few days is a bit quick, but again you can put that down to the storytelling. in this kind of game that needs to tell its story quickly you don't have that kind of time. for the type of person an is and the age she is at, i think it was handled quite realistically. i do think it was rushed, but i don't think An would spend a very long time in a state of mourning. also lutf plays with the idea that she kind of already knew. she didn't know nagi was actually dead so she couldn't experience it fully, but there was always that slight sense of anger and denial at nagi having left without saying goodbye and never once talking to her for years. she was already grieving nagi, she just never once seriously thought about the situation.

While Christopher Dring isn’t always 100% correct in his assertions, this does make a certain amount of sense.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder came hot off the heels of the first SMB movie, so it seems natural that Nintendo would save their next big Mario game for the hype train of the second SMB movie. What I question is Nintendo releasing a new Switch 2 bundle only a little over a year after the initial release (which is already being predominantly sold as a bundle,) and Nintendo prioritizing the movie’s release over Mario’s 40th anniversary.

And while neither of these things are out of the question… if we really aren’t getting that new 3D Mario until 2026…

Chances Ojima dies this chapter? /Genuine

Hate to admit it but the chances of Ojima dying this chapter are incredibly likely, I’d say around 80%.

I know I’m usually the one to scream about how Ojima is “certainly gonna die” like every chapter but this feels different as usually it starts off with me feeling safe about him and close to the bda he shows up a bit more and suddenly I freak out about death flags. But the motive hasn’t even dropped yet and he’s already got a ton of screen time, big scenes and info about his character. With the bleeding plot coming into play, his relationship with monomoko and being her favourite student, painting the balcony shutter, and us learning more about his trauma. Like legitimately we’ve gotten so much content of him so early on in the chapter I cannot believe how he won’t die this chapter because he’s been so important. I don’t think a tetro character has raised this many death flags up until now and I’m usually the type to say that we shouldn’t scream death flags at every scene, or we should wait until the motive, but like this is just so much Ojima content. Like I should be happy getting a lot more screen time with my favourite boy but I’m just in complete anxiety knowing that this most likely is his last development before he dies.

Like and even going to story themes, we’ve been getting a ton of development with monomoko and her empathising with the students and questioning the killing game. And since Ojima is her favourite student it makes so much sense for him to die this chapter which could lead monomoko into even more of a spiral as she values his life which could lead to her potentially standing up in the finale of chapter 5. And I could especially see this being the case if Ojima is a killer where she has to send him off to be executed himself, and with how much Ojima is saying how he believes he’s gonna die in the school but also saying that he knows he won’t kill anyone would be ironic.

Also with the mural he’s painting on the balcony, I can’t stop thinking of how perfectly devastating for him to die there would be if he’s a victim. Being killed in front of the painting of the outside world you’ve been yearning for, having your last chance of freedom stripped away like that. Just imagine the unique 5th bda with Ojima’s blacked out sprite in front of the colourful mural unique to that one location. It’s such a perfect setup for him to die there that I can’t possibly imagine that it could go any other way. I heard someone say that if this is the case the student reconvening at the body would be called [Sunset] and just ouch…

God just writing this is making me tear up. Even hearing any discussion or even mention of the likelyhood of Ojima dying this chapter just makes me feel sick despite how much I also say it myself. It just feels different this time as the signs are here right from the beginning of the chapter that I am so so confident he’s gonna die and can’t let myself rest as every day feels like I’m getting closer to my comfort character dying and never being able to see him in an episode again. Like I wanna give my reasons for maybe how he could not die this chapter but at this point it’s so certain I don’t wanna get my hopes up at all so I’m just gonna be sitting here until he dies this chapter and I’ll have to deal with the fallout. If anything I hope an Ojima interview is our one way of giving him some extra screen time before he’s gone forever.

if not spouting insults at every available opportunity makes you a coward then a lot of characters, a lot of foxes are in fact cowards

but put yourself in kevin's shoes for a moment

he was taken in by tetsuji when he was a child grieving his mother's death, and passed off to riko as his pet

he watched the butcher chop a man to pieces when he was, what, 11 years old? that was supposed to teach him what happens to those who defy the moriyamas

he spent a decade in a cult, running on 16 hour days, always in the same room as riko, navigating the line between beloved brother and punching bag

tetsuji definitely didn't spare him the physical punishments and brainwashing, which means he probably spent most of that time thinking that was how the world operated, that it is normal, that not getting to choose what he eats and what he wears and that being hit by his coaches with his own raquet is just how it's supposed to be. that it's normal to be raised to care about nothing but exy. that 'the master knows best'. maybe he didn't even see a lot of it for the abuse it was.

and riko. the extra content says riko got worse as they grew older but by that time kevin had forgotten how to fight back. is it really that surprising? it took jean five months to break. kevin had been there for years by the time jean came along

they grew up together, they were obsessed with each other, kevin needed riko and it didn't matter how much riko hurt him. but then riko undid it all in a heartbeat because he was insecure. kevin watched him destroy everything he had built up over the years because riko was afraid of kevin's potential. and yet i firmly believe kevin only had the strength to leave because of his mother's letter. had he not left, he would not have survived.

we don't get to see how much kevin struggled with adjusting to life outside the nest but that doesn't mean he didn't struggle. and then he finds out about the district change and he has a nervous breakdown, of course he does. he says it himself, tetsuji could pay off his scholarship in a heartbeat and if tetsuji tells him to go back, he will. but he can't go back because riko will kill him if he does. and kevin knows what riko, what the moriyamas are capable of, we see it directly through the series. who wouldn't be terrified in his place.

but the thing is, kevin does stand up to him. he freezes during kathy's show because riko is to him what neil's father is to neil, but then backstage when riko goes to hurt neil kevin does try to stop him. when the foxes first play against the ravens and lose, kevin looks riko in the eye and says he's satisfied. when he finds out neil's identity he tells neil to run despite knowing it'd cost them the season.
