Do you think An's mourning went too quick?

if we consider the amount of time between lutf and oyf (a few days), then maybe. first off, you gotta consider genre and storytelling here. vbs is very shounen-like, not that i really know anything about manga but they're basically always working towards the goal, most conflicts are resolved within the event, maybe with some things lingering afterwards but the main conflict (for lutf it was obviously the truth around nagi's death) is always mostly/completely resolved.

also in terms of event pacing, the next event had to be their arc ender (both lutf and oyf are very clearly rushed but the 2nd arc enders are an issue with like 2 other units as well so this is not a vbs exclusive problem). they didn't have the time to stretch out an's grief to more events, plus there was already the in-universe issue of taiga leaving for the US like 3 days after lutf. and yes, an did have let's study hard, but that was always going to be 1-A focused since they didn't have an event yet and needed it before there was no more 1-A.

however, there are multiple card stories and area conversations that show an grieving, and we get to see this in events like break down the wall and the ending of over rad squad to some degree. obviously less intense since time has passed, but there's still an obvious impression that she's mourning nagi. also this.

and as i said earlier, maybe. people grieve differently and for different amounts of time. people will also show it differently. a few days is a bit quick, but again you can put that down to the storytelling. in this kind of game that needs to tell its story quickly you don't have that kind of time. for the type of person an is and the age she is at, i think it was handled quite realistically. i do think it was rushed, but i don't think An would spend a very long time in a state of mourning. also lutf plays with the idea that she kind of already knew. she didn't know nagi was actually dead so she couldn't experience it fully, but there was always that slight sense of anger and denial at nagi having left without saying goodbye and never once talking to her for years. she was already grieving nagi, she just never once seriously thought about the situation.

if not spouting insults at every available opportunity makes you a coward then a lot of characters, a lot of foxes are in fact cowards

but put yourself in kevin's shoes for a moment

he was taken in by tetsuji when he was a child grieving his mother's death, and passed off to riko as his pet

he watched the butcher chop a man to pieces when he was, what, 11 years old? that was supposed to teach him what happens to those who defy the moriyamas

he spent a decade in a cult, running on 16 hour days, always in the same room as riko, navigating the line between beloved brother and punching bag

tetsuji definitely didn't spare him the physical punishments and brainwashing, which means he probably spent most of that time thinking that was how the world operated, that it is normal, that not getting to choose what he eats and what he wears and that being hit by his coaches with his own raquet is just how it's supposed to be. that it's normal to be raised to care about nothing but exy. that 'the master knows best'. maybe he didn't even see a lot of it for the abuse it was.

and riko. the extra content says riko got worse as they grew older but by that time kevin had forgotten how to fight back. is it really that surprising? it took jean five months to break. kevin had been there for years by the time jean came along

they grew up together, they were obsessed with each other, kevin needed riko and it didn't matter how much riko hurt him. but then riko undid it all in a heartbeat because he was insecure. kevin watched him destroy everything he had built up over the years because riko was afraid of kevin's potential. and yet i firmly believe kevin only had the strength to leave because of his mother's letter. had he not left, he would not have survived.

we don't get to see how much kevin struggled with adjusting to life outside the nest but that doesn't mean he didn't struggle. and then he finds out about the district change and he has a nervous breakdown, of course he does. he says it himself, tetsuji could pay off his scholarship in a heartbeat and if tetsuji tells him to go back, he will. but he can't go back because riko will kill him if he does. and kevin knows what riko, what the moriyamas are capable of, we see it directly through the series. who wouldn't be terrified in his place.

but the thing is, kevin does stand up to him. he freezes during kathy's show because riko is to him what neil's father is to neil, but then backstage when riko goes to hurt neil kevin does try to stop him. when the foxes first play against the ravens and lose, kevin looks riko in the eye and says he's satisfied. when he finds out neil's identity he tells neil to run despite knowing it'd cost them the season.

We have some quiet players on our bench, and that's fine, that's who they are. But, those guys like Mikkola, who's got—nobody knows—Well there's four other Finnish guys knowing what he's saying, but nobody else knows what he's saying.

Maccready did not need the sadboy deadwife backstory at all but in my mind the idea of his wife being the same lucy from little lamplight is like kind of genius actually. They're both around the same age and got out of lamplight around a simmilar time and the idea of them finding comfort in being the only thing familliar to the other in a huge wasteland thats unkind to everybody is like. DO YOU GET ME. AND THE FACT THAT FROM THE AGES OF 16 (when they left lamplight) TO 22 THEY MANAGED TO SOMEHOW HAVE A KID WHO MANAGED TO GROW OLD ENOUGH TO PLAY IN A BACKYARD BY HIMSELF (im guessing atleast like 2-3 years old i doubt he was unattended but the way maccready says it its like yeah he was just playing one second and suddenly hes randomly sick idk tangent over back to my main point) BEFORE LUCY EVENTUALLY DIES (brutally. Thems the DC for you) AND MACCREADY GOES TO THE COMMONWEALTH WHERE HE'D HAVE TO BE SITUATED FOR ATLEAST A YEAR FOR THE TIMELINE TO MAKE SENSE IS FUCKING INSANE. AND I KNOW ITS JUST BAD BETHESDA PLANNING/WRITING BUT ALSO THEM BEING RAISED IN A COLONY OF STRICTLY CHILDREN BASICALLY AND THEN ACCIDENTALLY HAVING A KID PRETTY MUCH FRESH OUT OF THE CAVES ITS LIKE. Maccready is dark and broody because he lived like 40 years worth of emotional trauma in half a decade. Lucy being from lamplight also connects fo4 maccready to fo3 maccready better than if it was just some random girl cuz maccready could be literally any other bastard with a dead wife but if Lucy is also from lamplight then its ALSO AN NPC YOU MEET AND TALK TO AND KNOW IN FO3!!!!!!! Yeah it fucking sucks that they had to resort to the dead wife trope for the 7th time in fallout 4 alone but it really shows just how brutal DC was and gives mac leverage to like connect with the sosu cuz THEY JUST LIKE ME FR LIKE YOU KNOW???????? In reality his backstory is fucking stupid but in my mind i modified it and now it rocks. I want to give lucy depth. I want to make a million stupid headcanons about her from how she was the only person stubborn enough to keep up with maccready to how anxious she was about leaving lamplight before maccready promised they'd go together (you know to help her feel better not because he thinks of her as a friend or likes her or anything b-baka). I can't be the only one who's pissed off about every fnaf theorist/some fans being obsessed with Cassies dad for some reason and even saying hes gonna be a new protagonist. like does anybody else feel this way

like maybe it's just me but why on earth would they deviate from the main cast so much for this random ass guy. it doesnt make sense like we already have 3 main characters in Gregory Freddy and Vanessa as a group and another 2 in Cassie and Roxy we don't need anybody else especially not a random dude 😭 why would he be a new protagonist over Cassie herself

not so live reaction to ga-ming gameplay video leaks

GOD!!!!!!!!!! i swear i dont think they've made a 4* with so much love and thought since like. probably yun jin. i think most ppl are stunned but like MAN. his idles???? the 10 sec of fully animated lion dance? it changes color and instantly reminds me of hong kong neon lights (his burst too tbh)?? THE BACKGROUND DRUMS IN HIS IDLE???? you can see in his normal attack sequence a very short plum blossom pole pops up and he steps on it, and like AAA idk. his animations. :') they really put so much effort into him I wouldn't be surprised if we got an entire yun jin opera animation w him too.

have more to say about how people weren't super happy about the removal of the white elements in his design, from the concept art, but i think the more i look at his design—he has a real/modern style name, is youthful, has neon effects, lively animation, everything matches up to create a very young adult character, a lot more modern than some of the liyue designs, it's nice. it's a cohesive design that actually hints at what his personality is like and what he does and that's a success i think.

there was a bilibili comment wayyy early on (before this leak flood), reacting to the disappointment about his leaked final design, basically saying, "lion dance is still a job, he probably wouldn't wear his uniform all the time even when off duty, and that's why his design seems to have less lion dance elements and looks more casual" etc. looking at ga-ming now that everything's released via leaks, this was def what they were going for. like you can tell that he's a vanguard, that's his full time job, which translates into the primarily black design, but you can also clearly tell he's a lion dancer as a side hustle. idk it's really nice :') i dont have much else to say, besides i think they probably nailed his design as best they could
