you and ashley had always been inseparable. closer than anyone else in your group of friends. 

it was something everyone noticed, even if no one ever said it out loud. 

the kind of connection where sharing a bed at sleepovers didn’t feel weird, where cuddling up during movie nights wasn’t something to giggle about. it was just natural. it was just you and ashley.

you’d call each other every night, voices hushed under blankets as you talked about your days until one of you fell asleep to the other’s voice. even when one of you was sick, you’d keep the line open, content just to listen to each other breathe. 

so, when ashley started pulling back, it was like the ground had shifted under your feet.

it started slowly. she’d message you that she was busy, and you didn’t think much of it at first. everyone gets busy sometimes, right? but the hollow feeling in your chest, that sense of something being off, lingered long after you put your phone down. 

you tried to shake it off, convincing yourself you were just being paranoid. but the messages from ashley came less frequently, and when you did reach out, you’d be left on delivered for hours, sometimes even days.

it stung. more than you wanted to admit. you’d send her something funny, hoping to make her laugh, only to get a short, almost dismissive response, if you got one at all. you couldn’t help but wonder if you’d done something wrong, if maybe she had finally figured out how you truly felt about her. 

you had fallen for her, plain and simple. and now, it felt like she was slipping away, right when you realised just how much you needed her.

the silence between you stretched on for weeks, it became harder to act like everything was fine. every time you saw her post something on instagram or laugh at a joke in the group chat, the longing for her gnawed at you. 

you wanted to reach out, to ask her what was going on, but every time you picked up your phone, your thumb hovering over her name, paralyzed by the fear of what she might say. 

would she even want to hear from you?

it wasn’t until one friday night, when you found yourself alone in your room scrolling through old pictures of the two of you, that you realised you couldn’t take it anymore.

before you could second guess yourself, you called her. the phone rang once, twice, and then a third time before it went to voicemail. you almost ended the call, but something made you stay on the line.

“hey, ash,” you said, trying to keep your voice light even though it cracked at the edges. “um, i don’t really know what’s going on, but… i miss you. and i just want to know if i did something. if i did, i’m sorry. just– call me back, okay?”

you hung up, tossing your phone onto the bed as you covered your face with your hands. you dreaded her reply, but at least you’d finally said something. 

now, all you could do was wait and hope.

hours later, long after the sun had set and your room was cast in shadow, your phone buzzed. 

you scrambled to pick it up, heart leaping into your throat when you saw ashley’s name on the screen.

the message was short. 

can we talk?

your chest tightened, fingers trembling as you typed back. 

yeah, of course.

not even a minute passed before your phone started ringing. you took a deep breath and answered, bracing yourself.

“ashley?” you said, your voice almost a whisper.

there was a long pause on the other end, a shaky exhale. “i’m sorry,” she said, her voice thick with emotion. “i didn’t know how to handle this. i thought… if i pulled away, maybe it would hurt less.”

you frowned, confused. “handle what?”

“you,” she whispered. “us. i–” her voice broke off.  “i saw you and josh getting close, and it hurt. i thought you liked him, and i didn’t want to get in the way. i figured if i backed off, it’d be easier for you… and for me.”

your heart sank, the realisation hitting you. “ashley,” you said, almost breathless. “it’s not like that. it was never like that.”

“but it looked like it,” she murmured, voice wavering. “and i thought… i thought maybe you didn’t feel the same way about me, so i just–” she let out a broken laugh. “i didn’t know what else to do but pull away.”

you could hear the raw pain in her voice, and it tore at you. “ash,” you said softly, “i thought i was losing you. i didn’t understand why you were acting so distant, but i never– god, i never wanted you to think i had feelings for josh. i don’t. i never have. it’s always been you.”

the silence that followed felt heavy, but not unbearable. it was filled with the weight of everything left unsaid between you, but also with something softer, something hopeful.

“always?” she asked, her voice small and fragile.

“always,” you repeated. “i’m in love with you, ashley. i have been for a long time.”

you heard her gasp, a sound caught between a sob and a laugh. “you have no idea how much i wanted to hear you say that,” she whispered. “i love you too. i was so scared i’d ruined everything.”

“you didn’t,” you reassured her, your own tears slipping down your cheeks now. “you couldn’t. not even if you tried.”

there was a shaky, relieved laugh on the other end of the line. “i feel so stupid,” she admitted. “i wasted all this time when i could’ve just told you.”

“it’s okay,” you said softly, a smile tugging at your lips. “we’re here now, and that’s what matters.”

“i’m coming over,” ashley said suddenly, her voice now lighter, happier.

“i’ll leave the door unlocked,” you replied, wiping your tears away as a sense of calm settled over you. for the first time in weeks, you felt like you could finally breathe again.

hanging up, you realised that the silence between you two wasn’t something to be afraid of anymore. it wasn’t empty; it was filled with the promise of everything you’d been too afraid to say before.

and now, you had all the time in the world to say it.

Yapper anon is BACK Who all do you think will/won't return for the remaster? Meghan Martin we know is returning because of her post on Insta (Cant wait for more Jess. She deserved more screen time). Brett Dalton got a lot of screen time as Mike, so I can see him coming back if they are rewriting storylines that involve him OR if he says yes (He is a whole dad so idk). Galadriel Stineman is pretty much confirmed imo because she posted about it and talks about UD frequently. Noah Fleiss doesn't act anymore but I heard he may be coming back for the remaster! Jordan Fisher, I'm unsure about and from what I know he has a whole family now and is mainly acting on Broadway so if he has free-time I could see him maybe returning, especially since Emily's actress probably is according to what Ballisitc Moon posted. Ella Lentini also posted about it so I see her returning due to the lack of Hannah/Beth we get. Hayden Panettiere I could see coming back for voicing lines or if they change scenes. As for Rami Malek, I see a lot of ppl on reddit saying they don't believe he will return because of his status as an actor. Though I am keeping my hopes low I don't think Rami wouldn't return for that reason. He has talked a lot about how he tries to stay humble and how he is grateful for all the opportunities that led him to where he is today. I don't think he would mind doing at least voice lines.

I basically just agree with everything you’ve talked about. These are the things I’ve thought about too.

Yup, Meaghan Martin is confirmed, which is great! If they have new stuff for Ashley, then Galadriel Stineman is definitely back. She loved being in Until Dawn. She’s mentioned really wanting to be in the film and shared/spoke about the remake trailer. And I agree that I think Ella Lentini is very likely. Those are the people I see still talking about being in it and commenting on what’s happening in the community.

Brett Dalton, Jordan Fisher, Nichole Sakura, and Hayden Panettiere seem of about medium likeliness to me. I don’t know of any specific indication that they would be against it, so we’ll just have to see there. Lol, Jordan Fisher is such a nerd. He posts stuff about anime and games and D&D in his story all the time. I get the vibe that he’d enjoy coming back. But who knows about his performance schedule? (Though whatever they do need to record from him is probably brief!)

Noah Fleiss is pretty inactive. To my knowledge, he hasn’t been in anything since 2018 and may just be happy doing whatever he’s doing and being with his family. But there’s also currently no public statement about him being against more acting or that he wouldn’t do it! There was also a clip briefly up on Ballistic Moon’s instagram that showed mocap actors who looked like him and Nichole Sakura (I had to do a double take, but I’m not actually sure that it was). So that’s cool!

Rami Malek…. Everyone is so interested in him! 😂 it is wild how much he’s done in the years since Until Dawn. Winning an Oscar is pretty impressive, and he’s been in more Oscar awarded movies since (I’m still cackling about them introducing a ‘Dr. Hill’ in Oppenheimer, and Rami Malek of all people standing up). I really don’t know though! I do think he seems maybe less likely than the others, but I also am not in the “no way, no how” camp.

I can’t wait to see!

Until Dawn Fan Cast

Wanted to throw my hat into the ring of fan casting the new Until Dawn movie.

SPOILERS FOR UNTIL DAWN BELOW

(also just assume there might be bl**d & g*re depicted below)

I wouldn't be surprised if Kathryn Newton becomes the new scream queen so it makes sense for her to follow in Hayden Panettiere's steps. She was brilliantly versatile as her two characters in Freaky & has a natural charisma that would be great for Sam whose all-rounder character could fall flat in another actor's hands. Pretty much everyone agrees on Sam being one of the few left alive if not the Final Girl & I think Newton would excel in the role.

Mike is pretty conventional as a Final Guy - objectively attractive, resourceful alongside headstrong with a funny side. Tom Blyth displays these traits himself in his portrayal of the younger Coriolanus Snow in The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes as well as a charisma that had many a watcher rooting for him despite portraying one of the most evil characters in The Hunger Games franchise. It would be interesting to see him tackle the complexities of Mike and even more fun to see him engage in the action scenes sure to be in the movie.

I never got into Stranger Things but from the limited amount I've seen Caleb McLaughlin is one of the best actors in the show. Matt is a contradiction to his own trope. He's a jock who is insecure in his relationship with Emily compared to how she feels about her ex, Mike, but also potentially wants to be seen as the hero. There's very much parallels that can be drawn between Lucas and Matt as well as enough differences and it would be really interesting to see how he would tackle the role.

Olivia Rodrigo is most famous for her music but her acting turns (admittedly in Disney & mv's, yes) have always been received pretty well. Emily is a hard character to cast especially when comparing to original actor Nichole Sakura since Emily is smart and resourceful whilst being blunt and - for a lack of a better word - wonderfully bitchy. There's a certain aura within the SNL performance for all-american bitch and music video of bad idea right? that gave me this feeling i can't shake that i want to see Rodrigo as the likely other Final Girl (I hope Emily survives to the end alongside Sam).

When Sweeney (as Cassie) was hiding in the bathroom in Euphoria, many people were desperate to see how she would fare in a traditional horror film - she plays terror great! maybe it's cheating to fancast her as Jess since she's played a promiscuously perceived blonde 'home-coming queen' type before but... if it ain't broke. I can't see a more perfect Jess to be honest.

according to luckyleftie on tiktok, Ashley's original horror trope was that of the stoner, rather than the academic - which clarifies the origins of the anxiety her character exhibits throughout. Personally, I'd love if they explored this in the film more (it's gonna be rated R after all). Sophia Lillis proved herself in the horror genre as Young Beverly in IT (2017) and would be really fun in the inquisitive/conclusion jumping Ashley. (Also I think she does resemble Ashley/Galadriel Stineman but that may just be me).

(Chris is deffo dying when Ashley doesn't let him into the house it's too potentially big of a scene to not do so) Tony Revolori is a funny actor and as self-proclaimed comedian of the group, I'd love to see his interpretation of Chris who pines after Ashley as well as how he could potentially approach the investigative chapter during Josh's 'prank.' Plus I loved him in Scream and wish we'd seen more screen time of him playing in the horror film.

in all seriousness, Alex Wolff is talented and plays awkward, yet charming alongside disturbed characters amazingly. Josh is quite an awkward guy ('party like p*rnstars' anyone?) and dealing with rapidly declining mental health as well as grief from his sisters' disappearance. Josh is a very complicated character whose actions cannot be justified but mental health cannot be ignored. Wolff could be a fantastic choice - especially if the mental health representation through Josh was updated with more advice and guidance from professionals.
