I'm gonna say this with every bit of love for Emilie that I have in my 8+ years old bleeding family Agreste heart, so trust me that I couldn't be any further from judging her when I now have to use this badly mistreated English term:

Emilie Agreste was already nothing but a depressing tragedy in how she was completely disregarded in the narrative because Gabriel didn't wanted to face her will and wishes, and because she had nothing to do with Marinette (and so Marinette can look cool attempting to have a lift crash down on her corpse as strategy for girlboss points)

So them now making it Canon that Emilie ended up in that heavily implied/ coded as overhearing, obsessive, and silencing relationship with Gabriel because her daddy issues fatally drew her to that type of man?

That is... I need a minute, that is beyond depressing. Emilie is never going to come back and get anything else as her endings than this. Even if they now finally explore her more, it'll only be in the past and will eventually result in this ending for her.

Info : This is my first time doing such an event I hope I did everything right. Even though it's not the 21 of October anymore but I hope that is all right.

An actual warm sunny morning had settled over Paris and lured the city dwellers outside. Warm temperatures, a cloudless sky and warm rays of sunshine were perfect. So Marinette had also thrown herself into an airy dress. A creation of her own in red tones and black embellishments, she had designed it herself over several days. Inspired by her Ladybug outfit, of course.

With her bag over her shoulder and Tikki in it, she had made her way to the Paris University of Fashion.

Not only the university, when it comes to clothes and creating, but also her opportunity to become a fashion designer. But that was not the reason why she put her bright lip gloss on her lips and a little mascara on her eyelashes in the bus. She felt so pretty too, but Friday was always her favourite day when she was with a certain someone. Gabrielle Agreste.

The fashion designer Paris. He had been a kind of substitute professor since the building and always had a helping hand over the works of his students. Which is why she at least wanted to dress up a little. What do you think he'll think of my blouse? she murmured to herself and looked out of the bus window to see the colourful university. ,,He must like it," she heard Tikki's voice from her pocket and the little red and black kwami winked at her encouragingly.

,,You're right, I'll do my best," she replied, smiling gratefully at the mystical being before hurrying to the university to avoid being late. The first hours were dry theory, colour teachers and which fabrics harmonised best with each other. Until the time finally came when the professor ended the lesson and she went to her favourite lesson with a joyous heart. 

Like everyone else, Marinette had her own table, her own doll to dress up and her own sewing machine. Her little kingdom from where she could watch Gabriele hidden behind mountains of fabric. She saw with her blue eyes the little smile on his lips as his white hair bounced slightly every time he took a step.

The bright eyes behind the glasses that flew over the students. As handsome as a butterfly, she thought, smiling slightly at the comparison. But as much as she loved to dream and look at the older man, she knew she had to work too. Time flew by as she cut more and more fabric and sewed more and more.

The woman in her early twenties hardly noticed that raindrops were falling on the windows and the sun was disappearing behind rain clouds. ,,I think that's enough for today, students, before you get too wet, have a wonderful day," he announced cheerfully and the students left one by one. All except one. Marinette.

The blue-haired woman was so absorbed in her work that she did not notice how the older man looked at her. His gaze wandered over her work and herself. ,,Little Ladybird…I must say your work is phenomenal, quite enchanting. I'm just afraid you'll have to take the needle off too," he said softly and saw Marinette flinch, she seemed to have only just noticed him.

The student turned around and he saw her cheeks turn a light shade of pink, he saw her lip gloss and her accentuated eyes. He himself felt the warmth coming to his cheeks. ,,Thank you Monsieur Agreste it meant a lot to me that you are pleased with it" she replied and cleared the way to let him have a better look at the blouse.

The purple fabric with the silver ascesoirs and butterfly buttons was perfection. Maybe Marinette liked Hesperia? ,,I hope the other professors see it that way," she murmured, packing her things before swinging her purse over her shoulder.

All of a sudden she felt his hand on hers, a brief touch like the flutter of a butterfly's wings. ,,Hope is the best thing you can do Marinette" he said and the two decided to walk together to the main exit. She knew that the spot on her hand was tingling and he wanted to give her words of hope again.

The two walked together through the corridors, glancing at each other furtively from time to time. They had always understood each other well, what was initially excitement and curiosity had now become respect and love.

The creations of his little ladybug were beautiful and the endless hope and kindness of her handsome butterfly was always during. ,,Rain? Oh no…no umbrella" the younger one stated as she scurried back under the roof of the university and Gabriel stopped, a little taken aback. His eyes went to the dress and he understood what had happened.

He had brought his own large lilac umbrella with him and stepped towards Marinette. ,,Miss Cheng, may I take you to the station…or home?" he asked after a moment's hesitation, not knowing if he had crossed a line. He saw surprise, then consideration and then something like hope in her eyes. Before he handed her the umbrella and took off his coat to put it over her shoulders. ,,Misseur Agr-" she wanted to say, but he took the umbrella from her before he sat down next to her and said, ,,Gabriel please, if I may also call you Marinette" and was pleased to see the hasty nod.

Before she grabbed his arm on impulse and the two of them walked down the street together under the umbrella. The older man felt her press herself closer to him, her hand sliding from his arm to his hand. A smile crept onto his lips as he saw the flush on her cheeks as he squeezed her hand lightly. ,,The rain gives hope for another fine day," he murmured, looking at the drops around him.

He heard her agree with him and the two fell into a small conversation about hope, rain and fashion. It was only when the two arrived in front of the younger woman's flat that they fell silent. ,,I hope you didn't get too wet," he said and saw her wipe a few drops from her bag. ,,No, it's fine," she smiled and saw how the white-haired man seemed to be thinking.

But about what. ,,Marinette, I totally understand if you say no but…would you like to come to dinner and create an outfit together?" He asked, fearing that she would refuse, stay with him or even leave.

His thoughts ran amok, but when he suddenly felt her take him in her arms, he heard her say, ,,Oh, I'd love to, Gabriele, I'd love to". The younger one had embraced him so stormily and they were both standing in the rain again, the umbrella rolled to the ground and she gave him a gentle kiss on the cheek. In the end, the happiness of the Ladybug and the hope of the butterfly won out, because together they found love.

the series made a point - multiple times! - that "hawkmoth vs cat noir = everyone loses". it was one of the key elements to maintaining the need for ladbug&catnoir to NOT know each other's true identities (and thus ensure the plot relevance of the love square).

there is no way to write a 14-year old facing their abusive parent in a way both consistent with the show thus far (s5 was all about emotional honesty & the series overall is idealistic)... and "kid-friendly".

it is a very, VERY bad idea to put a child in open confrontation with a parent like gabriel agreste.

not just dangerous in a "boss fight" kind of way but in a "you are putting a kid into a violent situation with their caregiver".

adrien (& thus cat noir) would NOT be able to fight his own father. hawkmoth/monarch could not be "taken down" without secret identities getting revealed because, for one thing, ladybug was only able to locate him because she LEARNED HIS IDENTITY. the "win" condition for S5 was the yoinking of gabriel's miraculous: i was very impressed by the boldness of the show in how the "ladybug vs monarch" finale went down. how much of its "something is OFF here" was deliberate versus being due to "we only planned for 5 seasons but got renewed for 3 more" has yet to be seen.

i suspect that gabriel "winning" was planned well in-advance, though the specifics of his redemption/changed!wish likely changed over time. the wish & "gimmi" were just too well-designed within the series lore to go unused. the full zodiac's worth of extra miraculous? THAT screams "this cartoon is trying to sell you merchandise"... standard practice for modern animation, tbh.

the extra miraculous DID allow the series to narratively set up its audience for how a "villainous victory" would affect the characters, their relationships with each other, and the story being told. shadowmoth's triumph, his claiming most every miraculous, was ALSO a very convenient means for the writers to get rid of all those "made for merch" super allies (from seasons 3&4) ahead of s5's Serious Plot Business.

oh! another reason why "cat noir vs gabriel agreste = everyone loses", aside from "do not try IRL" family dynamics, "hawkmoth is supposed to win" & love square retension for seasons 5+?

adrien is literally incapable of disobeying his father. not just because "do not try this at home" (effects of abusive family dynamics) but, like, actual magic. felix tried to get adrien's control ring from gabriel, like, 3 times? across different seasons? he kept failing. neither marinette nor adrien were going to succeed in ignorance where FELIX had failed (he had a whole villain arc about it). unless the writers wanted to write seasons 6+ of miraculous WITHOUT a lovesquare? ladybug AND gabriel needed to be oblivious as to HOW cat nr's presence consistently resulted in Bad Timelines for everyone: in the s5 finale proper, ladybug is only able to defeat monarch because... gabriel freaked out about how close her cataclysm-ready hand was to ADRIEN'S AMOK (&control ring). since ladybug is an idealistic teenager & gabriel was an increasingly immoral (& privately wealthy) supervillain? the ONLY way ladybug could have defeated monarch is via unwittingly threatening gabriel's son out of existence... or by killing him.

even then ladybug still - technically! - only defeated hawkmoth/monarch by getting gabriel agreste killed. from the POV of [future plot devices] & herself, anyway.

(that monarch was "dying via cat noir" anyway is just more fodder for the continued presence of the lovesquare/"ladybug & cat noir cannot reveal their true identities to each other")

for all the reasons above & more, cat noir could NOT have been present for the final battle against hawkmoth/monarch. it would have been a plot-holed character assassinating scenario RIDDLED with unpleasant, kid-UNfriendly Unfortunate Implications.

Honestly I think my take on the "Chat Noir was not there in the final battle" comes down to the fact that I kind of just don't think a satisfying final battle between Chat Noir and Monarch was actually possible.

I read a lot of fic, for example, and I've read the scenario play out a lot of times in a ton of ways and I've never been fully convinced of it tbh (and not because they weren't great fic!!). It seems just completely traumatic for Adrien in a way that the scenario inherently cannot properly focus on, because it's all happening in the middle of an action scene and Adrien is too busy being Mid-Battle to properly have a cathartic breakdown about it all. I mean, Chat Blanc already showed us what would happen if he did have a breakdown mid-battle (and why wouldn't he?). And though it'd be fun to have a big triumphant moment of him defeating his abusive father, Adrien simply isn't a character who would find that scenario triumphant, or cathartic, or anything other than viscerally traumatic.

Also, I agree that it's unfair that Chat Noir was not present— like it was unfairly tilted in Ladybug's favor— but I don't think it'd be fair if he was present, either. Because Marinette is, in fact, the main character. The main character whose character arc is primarily focused on her finding her footing as a hero and discovering all the responsibilities that come with that power (as opposed to Adrien, whose character arc is moreso about freedom and identity). And let's face it, in a fight between Ladybug and Chat Noir and Monarch, nobody would be focused on Ladybug at all. It's not about her. It's not her fight. She'd just be there as moral support and an extra set of hands, which really doesn't work for her character arc at all and is completely unfair to her!

Basically, it would just be Chat Noir temporarily acting as the main character and having the worst time of his life in the most un-cathartic battle for him possible left completely traumatized with Ladybug in the background awkwardly trying to comfort him after the fact? And then the season ends? And then the next season presumably goes back to Ladybug being the main character? After a time-skip to the new school year? It's just an ending that I feel like is a lot better in theory than actually on paper. And you can probably make an argument for ways that it could be made to work, where it would enhance Ladybug's story in a meaningful way where she still feels like the main character, and would somehow be triumphant for Chat Noir despite it probably being the worst moment of his life, and somehow not make the rest of the series following feel like bonus content as opposed to a continuation of the story...... but, I dunno. I think it's a lot easier said than done.

The fact of the matter is, I've always been waaayyyy more interested in how the aftermath of Gabriel's defeat affects Adrien than the battle itself. Post-Hawkmoth defeat is one of my favorite types of fic for a reason, and it's because the aftermath can be so juicy, especially for Adrien as a character. I think whether or not Adrien is actually there in the battle itself has always been kind of irrelevant to me, because no matter how Gabriel is defeated, his defeat will have immense repercussions on Adrien's life going forward. And the way they did it, Marinette is now a part of it in a more active way, too. Which is good for her character!

( Also, if he was there to triumphantly defeat Gabriel, would that mean he would just.... watch his father die? of cataclysm? a-and.... nathalie would just.... die, too? so he'd have three dead parents after all that? who he watched all die (or, in emilie's case, saw her corpse)? or is this a scenario where MONARCH BEATS CHAT NOIR and still makes the wish? is that cathartic? for Adrien to lose to Gabriel? Frankly, I loved seeing Gimmi and The Wish, it's been teased for so long that I was expecting it, and I loved the fact that Nathalie got to live as her narrative reward for coming to her senses and trying to murder Gabriel with a crossbow. I like that we got to watch a full season of Gabriel painfully dying to a cataclysm— poetically inflicted on him by Adrien, but of Gabriel's own doing. I like that Nathalie has presumably adopted Adrien after having an arc of her trying to be a parent to him once she realized nobody else would, that's so much more interesting than any other alternative. I just don't see how all of these things, some of my favorite things that season 5 gave, can still all exist at once with Chat Noir present in the final battle in any way that's satisfying. )

⚝Chloé Bourgeois: Chloe in "My Poisonous Villain" is a spoiled girl, maintaining the same personality as in the series. After the arrival of the Supreme, with her parents becoming famous and her father becoming the mayor, she gains so much freedom that she can do whatever she wants. She is the childhood best friend of Adrien Agreste, although he cannot stand her. Because of this, she thinks he is playing hard to get. She doesn’t care at all about Sabrina, not even calling her a "friend" but rather a "servant." Since her parents are famous and have a lot of political power, even having contact with the Supreme, she thinks very highly of herself. There are conspiracies suggesting that the Supreme is using the mayor, and it was because of the Supreme that Chloe's father became the mayor.

Using the Bee Miraculous, she already calls herself Queen Bee. As your right-hand and having received her Miraculous after you, she comes up with great evil plans, finding more and more ways to hurt the Butterfly Miraculous holder. She will rarely expose herself or say that she is Queen Bee or that she has a Miraculous, since the Supreme is forbidding it.

The fact that Chloe has never seen the Supreme but believes that you have, as you are known as the Supreme's "right hand," makes her respect you deeply. She proudly says that she is thankful to be your right hand, even though she wanted to be "the right hand" of the Supreme. She realizes that it is better for you to be in that position, as it means she doesn't have to handle the paperwork and can keep the action for herself.

She views Shadybug and Claw Noir as quarrelsome kids and says that if they didn’t fight, they could catch the Butterfly Miraculous holder. But she is grateful for the fights, as it is her "entertainment." She hates and has no respect for Shadybug and Claw Noir, only tolerating them because you do.

as i understand, in miraculous paradoxes with time travel are not ignored but are always fixed with ladybug’s power. because to fix a mistake she travels no more than a few minutes into the past, fixes it, and then calls the power to erase the timeline she came from, created by the mistake, BUT it also erases the version of her that was in the new timeline and leaves the older ladybug, the one that fixed everything. because ladybug keeps her memories of going through all that. and then she just. relives those few minutes.

i think that if gabriel wanted to solve the peacock miraculous problem he wouldn’t be able to do it without creating a paradox, unless he had ladybug’s power. and in that case, to follow the same process, he would have to give emilie the instructions to fix the miraculous and then use the power to erase the timeline where she dies, but that power would?? erase young gabriel and leave monarch gabriel, who is 14 years older, there to relive all those years. which would be weird as hell.

so yeah. maybe the rabbit miraculous was never really an option.

Nathalie is resigned to find herself withdrawing to the empty balcony before the end of her own wedding. They won't miss her-- it's Emilie they're here for, and Emilie they'll get. She is happy to stay as a helper, as the lines drawn across the page of Emilie Graham de Vanily's life. This is what they are used to, Nathalie loving and working and Emilie shining. At the end of the day, Emilie will come back home and tell Nathalie she loves her, and it will be like the first time she said it, standing over Gabriel's grave, and Nathalie will know that she belongs in this family.

It's wonderful to watch her out there. Emilie spins between conversations, catches the light and shines around a glowing smile and makes the world fall in love. They congratulate her on the match, let her brush them off when they ask about how fresh the soil is over her last spouse, and they dance. Everybody dances with Emilie. Except Nathalie, but that's okay. Tonight, that isn't the place she's been given.

"Are you alright, Nathalie?*

She straightens, relaxes-- she wishes he'd stop asking that. But Adrien sometimes works in repetition, and she supposes there is logic in him running like clockwork every once and awhile. She tries not to parallel herself to a boy who has been told to be perfect and can't help but do what he's told. She knows it's different. She also knows what Emilie asks of him isn't wrong. Everything they do is for him. He owes Emilie obedience.

"Yes," she says, and remembers to smile. "It's a wonderful day."

"You're not going to dance?"

"I'm not much of a dancer."

"I've seen you and Mummy dancing before."

"That's-- not in public."

He nods. It's a sentiment the whole household knows. What stays inside against what gets to come out at parties, at work. They breathe it-- Adrien was raised on it, but Nathalie took it in herself, dropping out of college to help the Agrestes and hiding anything that might make them let her go. When they finally learnt her age, it changed very little.

"Just-- make sure you enjoy yourself."

"I am enjoying myself," she says, and looks at him. Just freshly a teenager, unsure of himself, and her family. Family. "I get to talk to you."

He laughs a little, like it's bullshit. It's not. She hates being disbelieved, but she stands and doesn't call him out.

"There you are!" Emilie rushes up to them, all fluttery gold and white. "I saw you two om the balcony together-- what are you doing all the way up here? My favourite son and my beautiful bride."

She kisses Nathalie. It takes her by surprise but it's nice and anyway, it's Emilie.

"I was just reminding my mum to enjoy herself," says Adrien, with a sideways grin at Nathalie.

Mum.

Nathalie has never been a parent. She was set on it as soon as it was suggested to her. She is not a teacher, not a protector-- she is a worker and a fighter and to Adrien she is a friend, first and foremost. But it's a good word-- mum. It finalises the marriage. She is with them, one of them. She is family.

She'll take being a mother for that.

But Emilie frowns. "Nathalie's said she doesn't want to be a mum."

"It's fine," Nathalie tells her, firm.

"Nathalie isn't your mother," says Emilie. "I'm your mother, why would you want to have another one?"

"But she's marrying you, I thought--"

"I understand the confusion," smiles Emilie, "but she's just my wife."

"Isn't she--"

"Don't call her your mum," says Emilie. "She's not actually related to you-- you know that."

She touches her rings.

Nathalie closes her eyes, and smiles flickeringly.

Somebody Nathalie doesn't know pushes his way onto the balcony. He shakes Emilie's hand enthusiastically.

"Lady Graham de Vanily," he exclaims-- "and the wife!"

A week later, Emilie calls them for a family meeting. Nathalie shows up, and Adrien stares at her hollowly.

"But you're not our family."

It's not his fault.

Emilie laughs it off for the both of them.
