Breaking Free - the whole series

I'm cheating here, because I'm listing a multi-book series, but I can't help it. I'm super proud of it. It started as a one-shot of Adrien and Marinette finding Gabriel's basement, and then it spiralled hard. It begins right after Strike Back. From there, it's a complicated, twisted and very bumpy ride.

'How did you think this up?' my BF beta has asked me many times. I don't know, guys. It just seemed obvious at the time 😆

This was my 'getting back into writing' book, after a lengthy creative hiatus / identity crisis. I churned out chapters because I needed to get back in the game and rediscover myself artistically. Then I went back and edited the whole thing a couple years later, to make it better (and expand it by about 20k words).

It became a series because I had requests for sequel scenes. Again, a couple one-shot ideas spiralled, and I merged them with another premise that had been kicking around in my head - Adrien, years later, trying to heal from everything as an adult and find himself as a father with his own teenage son.

That then spiralled again, and I ended up exploring Felix in depth, too, and pushing all the sentibeing stuff to extremes. The whole concept for Book 4 intimidated the hell out of me as soon as I thought of it. I was so worried I wouldn't be able to do it justice. Writing it was sometimes physical torture. But in the end, I think Book 4 contains what might be the best chapter I've ever written for anything in my life.

Still, the saga continues! Book 5 starts posting in 4 weeks. I've set myself another crazy challenge with that one, but I am determined to pull it off. I also have ideas for a few one-shots to collect in a volume I'm calling Book 6. The series is going to be like 700k words by the time I'm done. Maybe more. Will I ever truly finish this thing? I don't know. I fell so hard into the universe I created, and it's going to be hard to let it go. I fully expect to cry when I post the epilogue to Book 5.

Book 1 was also how I really got into this fandom and started making friends. Honestly, that book changed my life. Yeah...I'm gonna cry.

Dreaming Wide Awake

This was my follow-up to the S5 finale. The show is now going its own way, but I'm still so proud of how all the tension and emotions turned out in this fic. Again, the story is complex. It's also really surreal, and I think the battle scenes are some of my best. I was soooo nervous about the reader response to one of the big moments in it, but the unanimous reaction was everything I'd hoped for.

How the Heart Learns to Beat Again

A backstory from Nathalie's POV. It starts with her at age 25, as the sole survivor of an old magical order, going on extraordinary adventures seeking legendary artefacts. Then she meets the Agrestes, loses her magic, and gets roped into a new crazy world.

The story also explores Gabriel and Emilie, Colt and Amelie, and Adrien and Felix's creation / infancy. Book 2 (covering Emilie's death and how Gabriel and Nathalie start using the butterfly and peacock) starts posting on Monday. I think these fics are possibly the most mature writing I've ever done. There's a certain 'voice' to them that stands out from my other writing.

Finding a Way (Jurassic Park AU)

This is my most successful fic, so far. It's half goofy / romantic and half tense / action - with a lot of gore. I thought it would be total crack, but it took on a life of its own and became much more serious. There was something magical about how it all came together. I'm planning a sequel, but I need to get through a few other big fics first.

Voyage! Tales of the USS Miraculous (Star Trek Crossover)

This is so far from finished, but I'm having a blast writing it. It's basically all planned out and going to be mammoth when it's done. There's a little of everything in it, and you don't need to know Star Trek to understand it. I'm loving the reader speculations over what might be going on.

Wayfinder February - week 1 recap

The first week of Wayfinder February is over and I wanted to send some love to the creators and to make sure nobody who loves the Hooked Wayfinder ship misses out on these wonderful stories and arts. We've still got a few exciting weeks ahead of us with more fics and arts headed our ways! So keep checking this tag on the hookedwayfinder blog for more fanworks.

Fandom is community - something which we could philosophize about, but which I don't think everyone fully understands in the same way. To me, a fanart or fanfic is basically just a person playing with dolls and showing their dolls to the world, often hoping others will say: "I see this and I love this! I wish I had come up with this idea!" Or in some cases "Ew, so much horror! ...Is there more?" or "Hot stuff! Hot stuff! Why is it so hot in here?" We're playing and having fun, and there's joy in the creation, but certainly also in the reception among the other fans. That's why I want to encourage you to leave comments if you have not done so yet - to both the arts and the fics you read - our creators deserve it and it is the best way to secure we will get MORE Hooked Wayfinder creations after the event is over too. Give these creators their daily dopamine shots, they deserve it! Spread a little positivity in the world, it's 100% free and not a waste of your time to make another person smile!

And now, for a quick recap (with links!) of this week's works.

Day 1: Wonderful mershark!Maui art by zabchan, including a free little ficlet by me - definitely worth checking out all the beautiful details in this.

Day 2: Athena stepped out of her comfort zone and wrote an English story for us - a spy!Moana AU where she's a demigod doing some spying in modern-day Paris and then runs into Maui 2000 years along the line. Supercute! Go read.

Day 3: We had no idea what Mars's art account was until she posted this and we were BLOWN AWAY - (and I think I saw her old art for The Queen's Gambit years ago but never linked it to be our Mars) - she drew us a supercozy drawing of Moana just chilling with her bestie Maui the sharkhead.

Day 4: It was my turn! Finding Ohana is set in modern day Hawaii and inspired by Lilo and Stitch. Simea, dealing with the loss of her parents, is quite a handful in this first chapter but luckily Maui (and his shaved ice cream) comes to Moana's rescue!

Day 5: Zabchan treated us again to one of her superdetailed drawings - and you gotta love Maui's expression in this one - and the idea is supercute too!

Day 6: My turn again! Chapter 2 took the story to the beach, where Maui showed off his surfing skills and Moana fell a little deeper in love with the guy. (And we met up with Matangi too!)

Day 7: Moonbeam worked on her "Flower Sickness" fic for weeks - it's angsty, it's smutty, it's got a little bit of body horror but it's honestly so freaking good - and unlike me she's not afraid to drop 16K words in a day!

ngl they were pretty famous in 2017, not like household names level famous, but definitely more famous than they are right now. i feel like even if u were just a casual youtube watcher and social media user, u at least heard of their names, and the phandom at the time was also huge (in part because, like dnp mentioned in their mukbang video, a lot of ppl who were generally into british youtube also watched them, whereas now, it’s mostly us really dedicated phannies who have stuck through the hiatus). also, although they had left the bbc by then, they ofc still had that cred attached to them for having been bbc presenters and brits hosts (granted, £250,000 is still Wilddddd, but yeah i’d say they were pretty famous then, even if a good portion of that was like Residual fame from the insanity of 2014-2016)

Ok this sent me down a rabbit hole into the most subscribed to youtube channels of 2017, the post-brexit economy of the UK, tinder's revenue history, tinder's marketing budget history, youtube's revenue history (google "2017 youtube advertiser boycott" for a blast from the past), and way too little phandom and Fandom history so I still feel like I'm missing pieces lmao

The thing is... I distinctly *remember* seeing comments that dnp were past their zenith during ii? Granted I wasn't on phannie tumblr at the time so this must've been on twitter or idb, where people have always been more pessimistic I guess. But it's not like this was a lifetime ago, I know where I was and what I did in 2017 (secretly watch dnpg during a uni field trip while everyone else was getting drunk and hooking up with the professors) (until they realised i had mobile data even though we were abroad, which was when they started asking me if we could all watch skam on my phone) (bc apparently that was what the 20 year olds were into lmao) (which is also how i know nobody used tumblr anymore bc i found the pirated skam uploads through a doc linked on tumblr, while everyone else was trying to catch the youtube uploads before they got taken down after 2 hours), so I feel like I can't be misremembering it that much? Like, I remember everyone (irl and on twitter) talking about conventional "youtubers" (as in, person who talks into a camera without a large production company behind them) in these mind-bogglingly reductionistic terms after pewdiepie came out as a racist and then again after logan paul filmed that dead body (tbf that was in december 2017, so definitely after the tinder spon), and I specifically found it so strange that it seemed like none of these commentators knew any other professional youtubers. Like the whole business model seemed so strangely more niche than it had a few years earlier? Like, in 2012 all my friends were watching Tyler Oakley or Jenna Marbles, and then by 2016 they had moved on to watch... Seth Meyers clips? On Youtube? Or, you know, Skam reuploads. Which is not what the platform was for at all, but there was this strange shift in content that wasn't *made* for youtube.

All this to say.... I guess the ad *could* have been that expensive, especially bc immediately after brexit inflation went up in the uk, so that probably also affected the numbers, depending on whether they got the deal with tinder uk or tinder us? I still feel like 2017ish wasn't a high point for youtubers specifically. Apparently influencer marketing only really took off in the mid-2010s though, so I guess it was also this liminal space of already-ftc-mandated-testimonial-declarations-hashtag-ad but not-yet-moved-all-the-budget-to-instagram? Idk it was a weird time. I wonder how it'll go in the next 10 years

So I’m not sure this was FANTASTIC for my mental health but for this project in school I wrote about how I REALLY felt throughout my school years and no one really knows how I actually feel not even the cone twin

Kinda cone lore rn?? A lot of people consider me really weird and some people are scared of me(which I didn’t find out until recently) and I just kinda realized that was the whole point and that I was trying to push people away because of some stuff that happened when I was little (tank you therapist… u da best!) so I get a chance to pour my heart out on a screen and tell everyone how I really felt and who I really am and it is LIBERATING!!!! I feel free as a bird!!!! So that’s one good thing but I also realized how much of a ASSHOLE I was and I’ve dug up a ton of memories that had NO RIGHT to be dug up and should’ve stayed in their dank little caves

So I’ve been tweaking out for a week because now I’m remembering all this shit I did and BOY does that suck :sillyemojiwiththumbsup: and not only that but I’ve completely forgot about that big project! And I have 2 weeks to make a 15 minute animation.(I have 45 seconds done and no interest in wwi anymore… tf2 brainrot would’ve been nice now! Soldiers the onlY reason I did wwi and that’s gone so erm) no idea how I’ll get enough motivation to do that in 2 weeks and write my script that will be 45 minutes long! Yup. I really wish I did it about animation because instead of actually doing anything I’ve been thinking about how I could’ve taught everyone how to animate AND i wouldnt have to make this awful game of uno!

I’m not stressed or anything but I think I should be more concerned about my lack of fucks but uh I’m not able to give a fuck about that either

🎆 Happy New Year everyone! 🎆

OK yes it's a day late, but I was gonna post this yesterday and got too embarrassed so ran away, but then I thought today, what is Tumblr if not posting embarrassing things occasionally? 😅

What was I embarrassed about? Well... I decided I'm going to start drawing again this year (or at least try to). I'm mostly dumping this here as a self reminder / motivation.

Unfortunately I haven't drawn for many years, so I thought, what should I start with? It should be simple enough, but something I'm still interested in... *stares at increasing pile of Shadow The Hedgehog merch* Oh, right.

So here's the thing... I used to draw Sonic characters a lot as a kid. Like, a LOT a lot. And I used to be pretty good at it too. The problem is that a) that was like 18+ years ago, b) I only ever drew classic Sonic and Tails.

So, I picked up a pencil yesterday and decided to draw Shadow, and... It was pretty bad. Recognisable, but bad. So I decided screw it, I'm going to practice drawing that damn Hedgehog at least a couple of times a week this year until I finally produce something vaguely passable, just to see if I can. I was gonna say every day, but I don't want to put too much pressure on myself.

I know some people see Sonic as a bit cringe, especially given how strange the fandom can be sometimes (I've never really got involved with it all tbh, I just enjoy the franchise for what it is and try to avoid the scary fanart), so I'll try not to go *too* Sonic crazy, however full disclosure that the Year Of Shadow has brought my Sonic The Hedgehog obsession back full force, so please try to put up with me for the next few months until I burn out lol. It doesn't help that my guy is also Sonic crazy - we literally spent all of New Year's Eve into New Year's Day binging Sonic X because he's never seen it. Absolutely no regrets lol. Fireworks and alcohol? Nah, gimme colourful anime animals! 😆

I also bought way too many Sonic games on sale and downloaded a bunch of the comics so, er, yeah... I even pulled out my old PS Vita to finally play Sonic Rivals...

Anyway I digress. I start my new job at last on the 13th so idk how long I'll be able to keep this up. At the very least I hope to improve my drawing skills a bit from all of this.

Sorry if this sounds all over the place I have like a horrible headache but

IF YOU SEE THIS PERSON PLEASE BLOCK THEM!!!

I’ve seen a lot of people (mostly minors) follow and interact with this person despite the large amount of red flags they have on their profile so I just want to lay out every reason why this person is extremely weird and you should stay as far away as possible.

1. the whole “fandom mom” thing

Guys please I know most of you are minors and don’t see the problem but an adult should NEVER try to make themselves come off as someone as trustable as a PARENT to a minor. ESPECIALLY if they never interacted before.

As a minor if you ever see an adult try to do this the first thing you should ask yourself is “why does an adult want me to immediately put so much trust into them”. Any adult should understand that trust from a minor is not something you can demand from them. That should be built up naturally through your interactions and even then, they’re not going to look up to you in the same way as an adult. It should always be the minors choice on if they consider you a trusted adult. Adults should never try to force that onto someone and if they do then that’s clearly a sign they don’t have good intentions.

Being a parent is having a position of power and authority over a minor. Minors are expected to look up and do everything their told to by a parent. Which is why it’s dangerous for adults to try to make themselves come off as a fandom adult. It’s putting them in a position where they can easily abuse or take advantage of minors.

Now to be clear I’m not saying that “oh any adult who’s not your birth parents can’t be you parents” obviously found family is a thing. But the difference between those situations is that found family is between a minor and a adult who they known for years and have presented themselves as a responsible role model. This is a random stranger on the internet who most people met like a week ago.

And I get it, most minors just assume this is a joke and isn’t meant to be taken seriously. And I completely understand that assumption. But any adult should know that even as a joke, that behavior is extremely weird. It’s only really an appropriate thing to joke about if it’s with other consenting adults. We’ll get back to this-

Especially since she’s doing this without the consent of the minor in some cases. Seriously, some people who she called her “babies” are people who don’t interact with her, have never said it was okay for her to “adopt” them, and are just randomly being put into this situation REGARDLESS on if it makes them comfortable.

2. She’s 100% serious!

Yesterday on Mother’s Day. She had done us the honors of gracing us with this post:

There’s ALOT to break down here, and I’ll get to that. But the main thing I want to point out is that she’s taking this 100% seriously.

So no it’s not a joke, atleast to her. She’s genuinely expecting these minors to look up to her as an adult.

Let me reiterate, she’s trying to claim that random minors who don’t consent to being adopted are her ACTUAL children.

This should be extremely worrying to anyone, this is breaching so many boundaries for a lot of people. Especially those who don’t even consent to this. To barge in and try to claim that a minor should look up to you as an actual parent is extremely invasive. And as a 33 year old women, she should know that.

What’s worse is that she’s luring minors into a false sense of security by letting them think it’s a joke. Until they’re comfortable enough with these interactions for her to reveal her alternative motive.

Most of the people (even those who play along) never actually agreed to be put in this dynamic. She just came along and presented herself like that. And under the assumption that she was most likely joking, those people played along. Once she got them in the position where they no longer think it’s strange or weird, she revealed that it wasn’t a joke at all and that she was serious.

THIS IS MANIPULATIVE BEHAVIOR. THIS IS THE BEHAVIOR OF SOMEONE TRYING TO USE MINORS. THIS IS NOT HOW ADULTS NORMALLY INTERACT WITH MINORS.

For comparison, I have many adult friends and I’m friends with people who are younger then me. Those friendships were built by simple interactions and conversation. I was never stressed or forced to see them as some sort of authority over me and I didn’t do the same to my friends. The choice to trust my adult online friends to the point I feel comfortable asking them for life advice came from multiple years of building trust and them stepping in to tell me when I’m in a situation where I was in danger or I was accidentally putting other people in danger. Not because they wanted me to trust them but because they genuinely wanted me to be safe.

They did not randomly dm me in discord going “oh wow your a minor and I’m an adult? I should be your fandom mom” and then after like a month tops of barely interacting they go “oh actually that’s not a joke you really are my child and you should see me as your parent”

3. Other massive red flags

To address the elephant in the room. If an online adult ever goes up to you and says “your the child I could never have irl”

you turn your ass around, and you run as fast as you can towards the hills

I literally can not stress enough how absolutely fucking weird and creepy that is. That is some shit you’d see in a 2008 psa about adults trying to use minors on the internet.

No, you are not some random person on the internets replacement child. You are not on the same level as an actual irl child. That is an extremely weird thing to put on a MINOR.

Again, these are random people she approached and just went “oh yeah you will suffice as the child i could never have”

This isn’t even something that you would drop on anyone regardless of age ESPECIALLY a minor. It is absolutely not a minors responsibility or worry to have to live up or deal with YOUR trauma.

This is something that no joke I think can be extremely traumatizing to put a minor through.

It’s also pressuring them into following along with this weird fantasy, because if they say no then their suddenly a jerk who’s taking away your “dream”.

Like please god do not ever put minors on this kind of position. And if your a minor and a adult tries to put this on you LEAVE! LEAVE IMMEDIATELY!!! GET OUT AS FAST AS YOU CAN THEY DO NOT HAVE GOOD INTENTIONS WITH YOU!!!

The appropriate way for an adult to deal with a situation like this is to get therapy or help from OTHER adults. They do not drag minors into their weird coping mechanisms.

Oh, and can we take a closer look at that passage about them being lead by god into the fandom?

Now to be clear, I have nothing against people who are religious. As long as your not trying to push harmful believes or follow people who push it *cough*

But the wording and phrasing of this part of the post is extremely weird and manipulative. First of all, literally trying to come off as if their a saint of god send to the fandom is weird. Like I think regardless of religious stance we can all agree with that. This is a fandom for a lego show meant for 7 year olds not a sinners convention. It also, again, puts them in a position of authority and trust, since their literally making themselves seem holy.

But also, that end part “which led to hearts I somehow knew needed me”

Uh, quick question, who actually needs this lady? Like no seriously, who needed a random 33 year old to call you her child? I know I don’t.

Which leads to the point of, why is she trying to convince us that theres a problem that only she can fix?

Like really think about that, this is 33 year old women going up to random minors, claiming they need her help and putting them in a vulnerable position so that they can put their trust in her to fix it.

That’s extremely manipulative to try to convince people that there’s a problem with them.

Are a lot of people in this fandom have issues or in need of help? Well yes, i mean we do enjoy a lego show that’s not out of the question.

But there’s no way for her to know what we need NOR is she actually qualified or trust worthy to help us with those issues.

What’s also worrying is that manipulators tend to use peoples vents or issues to learn their insecurities and use it to manipulate their victims further.

Which is why it’s extremely worrying that she’s trying to present herself as a messenger of god meant to “help” people in order to encourage people to approach her about their issues.

4. Why does this matter?

Throughout conversations I’ve had with people either through my posts or otherwise. They’ve always said one thing. “Well we can’t prove she has alternative motives”

While I’ll disagree with that (she already stated her alternative motive which is using minors to fulfill her coping fantasy of being a mom). I think that’s not really what’s important here.

Even if we give her the benefit of the doubt (which we should not do given her behavior) and assume she has good intentions, that doesn’t mean that her behavior isn’t extremely worrying or already harmful and that we shouldnt encourage minors to recognize these red flags and avoid them.

Vanata is putting herself in a position where if minors don’t immediately recognize these red flags, then they might not be able to escape until it’s to late.

It’s not just her “making people uncomfortable”. She’s purposefully targeting vulnerable minors and is trying to convince them to put her full trust in them.

Her method is to slowly break down their barriers until their comfortable with what she wants them to do. That’s what’s dangerous here and that’s what we need to look out for and prevent.

We need to encourage minors in this fandom to recognize manipulative behavior from adults and to stay away. We need to teach minors to be liberal when blocking people and to turn away the minute a adult seems off putting or weird.

It is my honest opinion that it’s better if a minor accidentally avoids a harmless adult then a situation where a minor is being taken advantage by an adult.

We need to discourage other adults from using terms like “fandom moms” or putting themselves in that type of position of power if they do have good intentions.

Vanata has put herself in a position of power over minors in this fandom and is trying to ask them to introduce her to more fandoms and we NEED to stomp this out before it becomes a bigger issue.

And if your a minor do NOT try to contact her about this. Your putting yourself in a situation where she can manipulate you further. Just block and avoid her please!

ART UPDATE

Lately i've only been posting the occasional (relatively) quick character portrait but in the meantime I have also been working on and planning out several other pieces,

Unfortunately I've been bouncing around between them so most of them are nowhere near finished, and the ones that are finished are often part of a series of art pieces so i feel the urge to delay posting them until the other art pieces are completed

(...So I might do a pol for feedback on how people would prefer I plan my posting [hint] and perhaps some future polls to see which art WIPs/ideas people are most excited to see to give me some added motivation to focus on one in particular)

Anyway here is a is a mock up of what I've been working on (or at least planning on doing)...

For ASOIAF/GOT

1. Active WIPs include..

-A 90% finished Sansa piece that I meant to be the starting piece to a more surreal/ symbolic portrait series, i do like how this one is turning out I'm just not sure I'm ready to start on the series itself...

also im curious though do you guys prefer me to wait on a piece so it can be released along side other art in the same series or would you rather I post something whenever its completed even if it means waiting months for the next piece in said series? I tend towards releasing artwork in groups or at least pairs of similar/related pieces...but that definitely slows down my posting

-A multi character GOT and lotr crossover piece (technically this one is the next most completed asoiaf/got wip... but keep in mind that is not actually saying much and it still has a way to go... im excited for this one but I think this one will have the most amount of characters in single art work out of all my art work and its definitely going to take some time)

- Dipping my toe back into my stark kids + direwolves series with some Bran & Summer and some Jon & Ghost pieces (i have only just barely started the Bran & Summer piece and haven't even begun planning out Jon & Ghost yet)

2. Planned but not yet started...

-Some book canon based Jonsa pieces (meant to be an offshoot of my asoiaf stark family portraits).. leaning towards a younger reunion jonsa piece as well as an older post-canon King and Queen in the north one

- A book canon Stark Girls art piece and a book canon Tully girls one as well (l've just barely advanced to initial sketching but I am excited about these two)... if people like them I may do other asoiaf characters in this format

- Two possible Jonsa fanart + fanfic recs posts (one inspired by some Alayne Stone based jonsa works and the other based on some of the many Jon Snow raised a Targaryen aus out there)

3. Finished and to be posted...

-I will be making a separate post about my Asoiaf Stark Family Portraits but I promise I will start posting them shortly (they're like number two on my list of works to start posting)

1. I finished a FRANK CASTLE X KAREN PAGE (Daredevil/The Punisher) piece a few weeks ago and I just. ...absolutely hate how it turned out 🫠 and I doubt i will ever be willing to post it (and currently I am too tired and frustrated to start this one over from scratch... so maybe one day l'll come back to this but its not actively on the list at the moment)

2. I had been rewatching THE LAST OF US in preparation for season 2 and have just completed a joel miller character portrait (this is number one on my list to post) and as season two is released i have tentative plans to do some more tlou pieces

3. Some guaranteed BRIDGERTON art coming... definitely kind of random and a fandom I'm not technically that invested in but the muse does what it wants (i've nearly completed two portarits- Kate and Edwina Sharma; and I'm planning to eventually do a Penelope and an Eloise one as well somewhere down the line.. most importantly I have two different rarepair fanfics in this fandom that l'm absolutely obsessed with and hope to do fanart for as well eventually)

4. l've been reworking a very old (and never before posted) HARRY x HERMIONE piece and will hopefully be able to do a fanart + fanfic rec list for this piece ...(there are some other old h

ermione rarepairs pieces i have that I want to redo but that's not too high up on my list)

5. Haven't started but have long been considering doing a SILMARILLION portrait series (much like my upcoming asoiaf one... detailed character pieces without backgrounds)

And then like, years later, I find the NEW episodes and start watching it, and then realize that's where that very specific memory came from! THE ELEMENTARY SQUAD AND OUR DEAR FAKE CHILDREN ARE GOOD AT THAT. I especially love how the friendship affects both sides: so much inspiration there, gosh.

Still doing the reread, yup! (Currently in the middle of the Okino Yoko case.) Going slowly thanks to me wanting to do way too many things at once and life being life and throwing unexpected responsibilities my way which I need to attend to.

Nothing truly new so far. Though, my opinion has been the same for a while on Olde VS New chapters. Cases used to feel more genuine, and had different vibes. They felt more organic in a way. New stuff is just... well, let's say I generally don't have a flattering opinion on new content. I tend to like little scenes or interactions, rather than the whole cases now. Somehow older cases feel like... even if they didn't advance the plot, they felt like there was a purpose to them, other than just stalling for time. Newer non-plot related cases feel a bit... empty? Transparent? I'm not sure what is the right word to describe it. (Perhaps the best way to put it that the heart/passion/love is missing from them?)

I personally tend to go back to older chapters a lot: there is just so much charm to them, and they bring me so much comfort. (Same with rewatching.)

But as I'm also rewatching the anime (oh dear) it's interesting to see the differences between the anime and manga. Earlier anime tends to deviate from manga in some cases (like adding the Detective Boys to the mix from episode 1, or changing some of the plot for certain cases), while in the middle-ground the anime includes extra scenes (which are not in the manga). Also one can observe how earlier episodes have a faster pace to fit 1 case into 1 episode (and thus cutting certain manga scenes), while later on they make episodes slower paced... But I'm realizing that I'm rambling again. *coughs* Moving on.

*taps chin* Given that information, I have a couple fics in mind. *nods* I need a bit of time to gather the fics I want to rec you, so I'll be getting back to this!

THIS ALSO REMINDS ME!!! THAT I HAVE READ AND CAUGHT UP TO THE MOST RECENT UPDATE IN FORGED! Gosh this fic, bless you for reccing it, I absolutely ADORE IT: the way the author took both stories and merged them in such an organic way, keeping the charm of both... Such great execution, and I'm in love with the character interactions in this, truly, thank you, I can safely say that this fic now made it onto my Eternal Favourites list.

And gosh, yes, I'm generally weak for the identity reveal trope ( and not just in DetCo, but others too, like Miraculous Ladybug or Danny Phantom).

And... I have very different answers for How It Would Actually Play Out and How I would Like It To Play Out.

A very short summary (sorry, had a long day and my battery is low, brain is slow) of how I imagine it would go in Gosho-Canon: Shinichi only tells Ran he was Conan (not the full extent of all, I think, just parts of it) only after the BO is down, Ran forgives him without much issue, and a most general happy ending. Marry, kids, and the like, or being back to the old everydays (but now dating). Kazuha might be told too, but I sort of think Gosho would gloss over that detail. I'm not sure how the Detective Boys would fair in this situation, I sort of feel their situation might be glossed over too.

As for how I would like it to play out: at this point in time Ran (and I want to think Kogorou too!) would have already figured the Shinichi=Conan thing out and stuck with that belief (HELLO, SUSPICION ARCS? ALSO OCCHAN IS A DETECTIVE AND EX-POLICE OFFICER?) OR Shinichi would have already told Ran (HELLO DESPERATE REVIVAL ARC? ALSO THE VERY FIRST NIGHT OF CONAN'S EXISTENCE?). And I want to think Kazuha would be in the know too, at this point. (Either told or figured it out herself.)

But if you mean without alterations to the current canon: I think Shinichi would finally tell Ran about PART of the situation (perhaps in a rush bc of danger or after BO take down) be it as Conan or Shinichi. I believe Ran would need a lot of time to think on this (all those lies, the gaslighting [I don't use the word lightly, I really think it applies here], the breach of trust), but I think she, being the kind, gentle yet strong soul she is, would forgive Shinichi. Shinichi would need to work hard to regain Ran's trust, but I think in the long run, they would work it out, since they are very important to each other (as I ramble about it in this particular Relationship Bingo ask, ShinRan is the ultimate example of the soulmate trope to me). Compared to how I imagine Gosho-Canon, this would take a lot more time. And this would also include telling the kids about the situation, and Occhan, and Kazuha too, and some of Shinichi's other allies too. (All the bonds and connections he made as Conan, gosh, GOSH, so many, I refuse, REFUSE to believe Shinichi would just let these bonds go. LIKE ONE TAKAGI WATARU!!!!)

Now I'm curious how you would see this go down, so I would like to throw back the question at you: how would you imagine (be it altered or not-altered from canon) the reveal play out?

I think what I love about the soulmate trope... is the potential. I love seeing various interpretations of the trope, be it romantic or platonic. How the concept of soulmates are treated in universe (is it common? is it rare? is it special? also what is the view on soulmates?) and by the characters themselves (do they see it as determinism? do they want to ignore it? are they fond of the concept? or even obsessed with finding their soulmate?), and what the people involved in the soulmate bond make of that connection.

And yes, there are so many good platonic soulmate fics in DCMK fandom! (I go on the hunt regularly so I know, haha.)

It's not the manga, but since we have the first 2 seasons and the first movie of DetCo dubbed in Hungarian... Shinichi/Conan has more of a cheeky vibe to him, than in the original Japanese. And there are some really hilarious (in a good way) words and phrases he uses. So Much Attitude In Such A Small Body.

You knew a thing or two about putting up about three different kinds of walls until you could hardly recognize yourself, what with you basically being the Lila of the Sparrows

It's complicated how you met but also, not in the slightest

True, there was only one Handler and the only kid she ever "had" was Lila

But she wasn't your mother, she was your boss

One that you only ever met once or twice, but you can hardly remember it, it was so long ago

You were recruited by her, however, at a unusually young age annnndd long story short, you quit

Working for an organization out of time sounded cool, and was. For about 2 (non)minutes

Then it just got depressing and way WAY confusing and downright dangerous

It took so many (non)years to plan an escape and then another two or so to actually put it into action and escape

Nothing unusual, you were constantly jumping from year to year, place to place, never staying one place too long. (Kinda like couch surfing! Time surfing if you want to put it that way)

It went off without hitch, your little plan, and had been going fairly smooth for what you perceived as about four or five years

Then said "pitstop" in good ol' 2009

That's when your path collided with the Sparrows

And when it did, you crashed

No literally, there's a literal crash involved

It was definitely something that happened by total chance

And yeah, you could argue that's how most things are, but, hopefully you get what I mean

Like, it's crazy how you just happened to forget something when you left for your walk for work and decided you had time to go around the corner and get it. Crazy that you had just enough time to catch the next bus

And that next bus just so happened to be the one that got caught in the crossfires of a Sparrow vs Villain of The Week fight

Thankfully nobody was seriously hurt, but there were a great number of close calls

You being one of them

And you had Sloane Hargreeves to thank

In a spur of the moment as you were fleeing the bus with the rest of the crowd, she pulled you lot from across the street and out of harms way

When the fight had died out, the weirdo supervillain calling himself the Murder Magician was taken away (his sidekick, the assistant as well) And the Sparrows were swarmed with press and thankful citizens

You think, because of this, it'd be virtually impossible to get any face time with the famed sparrows, right?

Wrong

Again, it's crazy how you just so happened to be trying to make a beeline out of there (what? being on the run meant blending in, and you couldn't very well do that from here) when you ran into a very handsome wall

"Oh! My apologies, I didn't see you there"

Okay, so. Not a wall. Just a very tall, very handsome, and very very famous man you knew more about than you probably should thanks to your old job maintaining timeliness and such

You insisted you had to go, but wouldn't you know it, your little streak of luck wasn't over yet

That murder magician guy? Did I mention? He had a little something called a murderbot

Kind of makes sense now, I guess. Usually, supervillains aren't as cool with being caught unless they have another trick up their sleeve

So, kinda awkward, but

the thing kinda took ya hostage along with some other unlucky few in the crowd thanks to advantage it got witht he element of surprise and all

Marcus and the sparrows handled it fairly quickly but it was still upsetting!

Experiencing a bus crash, a murder magician, his murderbot and then two rescues all in one morning can take a lot out of you!

Marcus, having already ran into you and then letting you get kidnapped right in front of him immediately after, he felt kinda responsible for you. call him old fashioned (lol)

He asked multiple times if you were okay

He did not want to leave your side until he knew you were okay

He'd invite you back to the academy where Grace could check you over for potential injuries (concussion, internal bleeding, etc) and he could be certain you'd be getting good medical care

(even though EMTs are right the f there lmao)

He may be a dork but he's also a spoiled rich kid like his siblings lskd8v8

You, all the meanwhile, having a whole different timeline's worth of knowledge on him and his siblings thanks to your time at the commission (this excludes the kugelblitz since that was technically not supposed to happen... I think) felt like you were treading dangerous waters interacting with someone so famous in history

I kinda lost where this was going lol but I do know that after all that, it was a bit harder to say no to Marcus and the little soft side he started to show when he was getting worried

Cause you were definitely started to get a little dizzy and you definitely hit your head at some point in all that chaos

And a very handsome, very famous, very dorky, and very kind man was now very worried about you

Okay, so maybe you could be a little bit late to work

SPARROW!BEN HARGREEVES:

I finally understand the term poor little meow meow

He is a wet cat

Angry and petty and snippy

And inexplicably ruthless

You two would probably meet somewhere totally unexpected

Hold on let me think of it real quick

I guess I could see you working their PR or something, if that was even a thing for them (you being newer, and ofc around their age)

Idk I feel like, with Sparrow Ben, and how much of a little shit (affectionate) he is, I think it would be kinda hilarious and yet totally on brand for him to have a connection (good or bad) with someone who got paid to tell him what to do - ie, he thinks he doesn't need it and that it's the others that need to behave and rebrand themselves when he's like, right there

His promo poster was literally the Had To Do It To Em pose, you know I'm right about this

Not exactly the kind of image that's super great for, you know, a superhero

So yeah, he would have to listen, but he'd give a stink

And even a bigger one when you threw it right back

You know, it wasnt a huge deal that one day, on her day off, she decides to visit a reveried bird sanctuary just outside of town

And that, upon that visit, she happened to stumble upon you, unable to stop yourself from spewing bird facts and hey? Did this random visitor know about the loyalty of crows and all the limitless examples of humans befriending crows??

Well they did now

Oh no did she love your corny enthusiasm over birds - crows especially!!

She just couldn't help herself when she first overheard you and wanted a better view

Sure she spent her time communing with the birds around her, but a select few of crows--her crows--adopted a sudden interest in you and your info-dumping to unwilling visitors, flocking to you wherever you went

It wasn't unusual for birds to bond with caretakers but you didn't recognize these crows that now seemed to follow you everywhere, always keeping a polite distance and paying careful attention to anything you had to say

Soon enough, you were fully conversing with these crows, making sure they were comfortable wherever they might have come from

That pretty much sealed the deal for her

From then on, she knew she had to make herself known to you; introduce herself, commend your respect for her birds (and the others in the sanctuary)

Yall hit it off immediately, no surprise ajdkps

Oh she's also so fucking smooth adjsjs

Idk, shes just kinda sweeps you off your feet when she finally introduces herself to you, commending you for your respect to your birds (totally teasing you for how you, by extension and strictly technical terms, treated her through her birds) and is such a coy little fker who loves seeing you get all flustered

My god though, shes also so fucking soft and sweet and loyal when you earn her trust

Either friend or partner, she'll come across something she'll think you'll like and give it to you next time she sees you (ohh idk, like a crow)

I love him, I need to know more about him, and I'd love to say how you guys met was some miraculous coincidence that makes perfect sense like Fei, but honestly he just really strikes me as someone you just Bump Into, ya know?

He's a guy, and he's just around

That feels like something that would happen (or maybe I'm just still thinking of his fight scene with Diego)

Oo! Honestly, some place like a bowling alley or arcade

He, like Marcus, is such a dork

But he holds himself as like, a, Cool Dork, ya know?

And it's not as hidden

It's not hidden at all, he's such a snarky pizza-eating, soda-chugging, quick-as-a-whip dork

He feels comfortable in public, for not all the right reasons

And he's easy to run into

He gets a lot of mistreatment by Sparrow fans, but his attitude is much like his power

Arguably, it's because of his powers

He's rubber, they're glue; what bounces off of him sticks to you

ie, he's so good at letting a bad attitude bounce off of him and stick to his attackers

And yeah, sometimes his walls are down and stuff gets to him when he isn't prepared, but overall he is sadly (and infuriatingly) used to it

He's not always the favorite among fans, is what I'm trying to get at

Like I said, he's used to feeling the occasional tap on his shoulder -- like now, where he stands in line for some good ol' mediocre bowling alley hotdogs -- cause someone recognized him

He was, arguably, one of the more recognizable sparrows after all, behind Christopher obviously, so

Here we go, he thinks, turning around, hands lazing in his pockets and quite possibly the least enthusiastic look any living thing could conjure on his face

And just like anyone else, you stood waiting as he turned to face you, smiling in a way that was all too obvious you were trying to hide your excitement

"Hey," he nods

"Sorry," you laughed, but not in the usual way. More like an awkward chuckle that sounded nervous. That wasn't too unusual, either

"Sorry," you said again, burying your hand back inside your pocket like the other. "you probably get this all the time, pretty much everywhere"

He shrugged it off, not appearing too bothered by it

"No problem," he said, glancing back ahead to check the line. It still was pretty long; some issue with the deep fryer holding up the line, by the looks of it. He had time. He looked back at you, waiting indifferently for whatever to come. "What's up?"

Judging by the looks of it, you had already started backtracking the moment you got his attention. You were second guessing getting his attention. Cause figures

"Just a big fan," your hands were still in your pockets, fiddling and moving around visibly through the thin cotton, maroon zip-up sweatshirt

You had shrugged, and thats when he noticed your zip up was familiar; it was a piece of sparrow merch

An older one, judging by how worn it looked

The little sparrow insignia higher up on the left breast of the jacket was still there, but it was significantly faded, and the matching white rope laces dangling from the hood were fraying at the ends

He nods again, leaving the future of the conversation up to you

Wildly inconvenient for you, you thought, considering you hadn't exactly thought this far ahead. At least, if you had, you immediately forgot.

You said the first thing that came to mind, cause of course you did

"I loved the Sparrow comics when I was younger,"

Okay, yeah, you definitely regretted this. This was mortifying. Plain and simple.

Sadly, however, Alphonso saw this in your face and misconstrued the reasons for regret

He thought you were regretting talking to him when really you were just getting in your own head

You quickly assure him though, that, actually, he's your favorite and you think he's super cool and you've actually been a fan of his since yall were kids

He takes the information like any other fan interaction,

That is until it really clicks for him you're being totally serious and your enthusiasm is genuine and he kinda :o

Admittedly you had been rattling around her head for a few days afterwards cause hey 👀👀👀 she can appreciate what's in front of her - and yet, she was kicking herself for not doing something about it

She held a lot of responsibility as a sparrow and part of her was afraid, not so much upholding the sparrow image, but disappointing her siblings

Sloane dreams of a having a life of her own, unsanctioned by her father and/or her brothers and sisters. She's been planning ahead for her inevitable exit, why had she chickened out with you??

Almost two weeks had passed since she ran into you and thirteen days since she talked herself into giving up on anything happening.

She had scolded herself, really, how foolish it was of her to think she could have something sweet and endearing with a very cute person like you

Sloane is a romantic in every sense, and this had merely been proof. How naive

And...

How naive of her to think she saw you standing out like a sore thumb in one of the sparrow crowds stationed outside for one of their outings

She had to do a double take when you gave her a shy wave, and she definitely had to make sure she wasn't making a fool of herself as she made her way over

You had sent her a grateful nod when she covertly steered you two out of the reach of cheering fans crowding around you trying to get to her and her siblings

Sloane may or may not have failed in her attemps to tamper down the corny smile that came with your being here

You looked almost, shy

"I thought you seemed familiar," you smiled, looking up over her shoulder at one of the many huge banners plastered on the academy. She followed your gaze over her shoulder and then quickly averted her gaze, not overly eager to see the sight

A big part of it was you kept cropping up everywhere

You delivered a pizza to her and Alphonso once upon a time and ever since, by total coincidence, you kept reappearing

She didn't believe it was accidental ofc

She thought you were some stalker

Meanwhile you were just as confused

It wasn't exactly love at first sight for you, either

Jayme was brash and short tempered, but when she was around you -- bumped into you on the street, out for a run in the park, whatever -- she was just plain cruel

And the thing is, she didn't know why

All you had done was the deliver the pizza, made light conversation with Alphonso and wished them both a good day before leaving

The fucking nerve of you

She's just crushing hard, actually

Nah, you're just annoying to her, that's totally it

She totally didn't think you were infuriatingly attractive, fun to be around or anything. And the display of dry humor she witnessed when you were chatting with her brother totally didn't anger her in a way she couldn't understand because she wasn't used to cute people saying stuff that she almost laughed at

But she didn't laugh. So there

And you didn't even know it.

You simply thanked Alphonso for the early arrival tip, nodded a goodbye to both of them and then left

It isn't until she's dialing the pizza place and working through her nerves as she does so that she realizes why she's so nervous

Chrissy help how do you keep motivation for such huge writing projects?? I've seen you posting about abot for a long time but I just clicked it and it's got like 360k words. My guy you are incredible and if you've got secrets to share I'd be very interested. Major props to you

I'm hoping to resurrect Dickinsonian-era "paid by the word" writing gigs and retire off ABoT Kidding! kidding! I make 0 dollars and 0 cents off ABoT do not sue me IP holders.

More genuinely it's a couple things I guess. One big and simple one being just--I really like the story. It's long because there are a lot of parts I like and wanted to tell. Another is spite, because for a long period of time between 2017-2020 I thought I would never be able to come back to the story so it's something of a "fuck you look what I made anyway."

But I really REALLY think the biggest part to this all was the (tough, but doable) process of learning to be okay with this story taking however long it's gonna take, and being however long it's gonna be.

Back in the days when Tumblr was really a hub for fandom, fandom attention was extremely fleeting, and when you had any of it, it felt like it was always moments away from vanishing. Tourmaline, my 80k Steven Universe fic, I wrote in the span of just over 2 months. I had a chapter out roughly every 2-3 days for that entire sprint. I'm proud of pulling that off. But my main motivation for doing that was absolutely the fear of losing people's attention and interest if I dawdled even a little.

Early-days ABoT was like that too. The first 9 or 10 chapters were all posted in intervals of about 2-3 days apart. I was staying up extremely late to do this which wasn't good for me and I was doing it because I was afraid of losing people's interest and I was getting more intimidated the more I realized how long ABoT would likely be. And then for school and life reasons, my update schedule absolutely had to slow. And I was having a bad time because it was like I could feel myself losing readers and losing relevance, and the backlash was growing, and even when I was finding the time to write I'd started burning out hard on my passion for the story. I'd get frustrated with my own plot and characters, and you can't write a good passion project while frustrated with the characters.

And then I kinda quietly admitted defeat because the stress and the backlash were too much to handle and I couldn't wring anymore of this from myself. After a 1 year, 2 years, I was pretty much sure my readership was long gone. I still thought about the story constantly! I still cared. I just figured I'd missed my window and would never be able to come back except to backlash.

Then just shy of 3 years, I said "fuck it, actually" and wrote the next chapter (okay it was a lot more complicated than "fuck it" but that would take too long to explain.) And in FACT, a ton of the readership came back! It was an extremely warm reception! And new readers, too. Just a lot of really warm, positive feedback. Which absolutely blew my mind because it was completely at odds with my feeling that things needed constant updates to cling to relevance. And the idea of "well if they waited 3 years..." has helped me a lot with allowing time and breaks between chapters. I don't burn out on them. I edit them more. My update schedule's been more like 2-6 weeks between chapters, rather than days.

Allowing that down time, letting ABoT be a steady jog instead of an all-out sprint, has been absolutely crucial to getting as far through it as I am. Even right now, it's been pretty long since chapter 45. I dove super deep into putting ch45 together and I kinda needed some time off after to decompress and step away to not risk burn out. Which was very needed and helpful and now I'm back to chugging through ch46.

There was an old comment, I think on Reddit, that I read years ago which has stuck with me ever since. Someone was recounting a conversation with a single mother who was considering going back to college to get her degree, but was hesitant to do so because she would be 40 by the time she graduated. To which the other person responded "You'll be 40 anyway."

And "you'll be 40 anyway" plays in my head a lot. Like, ABoT's been going for almost 6 years. Well 6 years were going to pass anyway. ABoT might not be done for x-many more months. X-many more months are gonna pass anyway. Time's gonna happen anyway. So I'm not worried about whether this thing is still going by then or not. I'm just keeping at it until it's done.

5. Captain Crow - The Sea Beast This film is just incredible on every front. One of my favorite concept artists worked on it (which I did not know until a few weeks ago but now that I know I feel like kicking myself because I REALLY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THEIR STYLE WELL ENOUGH BY NOW). But I remember watching this, and screaming when the credits began to roll because WAIT?!?!?! THAT WAS JARED HARRIS??? OH!!! WHAT A DELIGHT!!! I LOVE THAT GUY!!!! (oh babygirl wait a few months it's gonna hit you so bad). He's great. I hope we see more of him in the sequel that would be great for me.

4. Hari Seldon Honestly. What a little shit. "But Egg," you might ask "If he's such a little shit why is he on here?" well. He's hot. Really I am not over how hot this dude is. I know I couldn't fix him not in a million years. But idk. Something about him always makes my brain go brrr. So he's on here. Also I just love how fucking atypically written this show is and I have a wee soft spot for asimov. They didn't have to cast Jared as Hari and make him unbelievably hot. But they did. And he's so enigmatic. I love that.

3. John Lennon Egg's love for Jared Harris Origins. I was a Beatles girlie, ok? I'm not ashamed to admit that. It was my introductory fandom experience at the ripe old age of baby, and I really ate it up. I remember going into this movie being like "oh it's some dumb TV movie about John and Paul how good can it be?" Very good, as it turns out. And having assigned myself a John Lennon girlie I literally could never get over this depiction. The mannerisms, the fucking tripped-out way he philosophizes in conversation, the softness, and ofc the old friends tension. Jared got it all. Of course I'd seen him in stuff here and there, but this was the one that cemented him as a beloved actor in my mind for me (I literally re-wound the kiss scene as well like 20 times don't judge me but that awakened some stuff in me). Been following him ever since.

2. Lane Pryce - Mad Men This dude broke me for real. I didn't get into Mad Men until college, and binged it all on my friend's hulu account. And lemme tell ya. Did NOT see his final episode coming. Did not. And it made me genuinely weep. He was a highlight in the show. He was one of the only guys I could actually say is a good dude in that show, and he deserved so much better than he got in the end. I look at him and I'm just like... leave ur wife. Leave your job. Lets just go out of this capitalistic hellscape. I want to make him Well. I will love him forever for how he just completely destroyed me.

1.Francis Crozier / Valery Legasov - HA! you thought I was not going to tie them? WRONG! I can't keep these bad bitches apart.

Francis really needs no explanation at this point. I am so actually genuinely in love with him I'm writing a whole ass gothic romance novel of a fic for him, as you all know (and which has summarily turned out a BANGER of a modern AU as well). I made a bloody self-insert oc for him. Gothic Cinema is literally my favorite genre and Francis is the most Gothic Hero of all time, honestly (well besides Valery obviously). The serotonin he continually gives me makes my meds redundant. He is my sweet husband who I love with my whole life and that's that.

And Valery? sorry you can't put a babygirl of a man like that in front of me and not expect that I would want to jump his bones like? Not only is the constant existential dread relatable, but as much as people tell him he's not brave, he IS without a doubt, and honestly, just by virtue of uttering the most iconic logline ever fucking created he deserves this spot on this list. Both of these dudes make my soul ascend in a certain way not just with how brilliantly they were written, but with how incredibly Jared executed them (for which I want to kill the academy for not giving him awards on either). Fable 1 is not pictured here because I have that on Steam and thankfully Steam probably won't be going anywhere for a while. However, I don't trust having a digital copy of Fable 3 on such an old ass console so I got the physical once again.

And yes. That is Fable: The Journey. I don't think many people in the fandom have actually played Journey. I've only played it once but let me tell you, it was fucking awesome. I at least remember the feeling of awesomeness when I played it. It also gives some interesting looks at Theresa's character. I will probably do a post about it when I eventually play through it again (because yes I also bought a kinect for that game specifically). As for Fable 2, I had gotten that a long time ago when I was originally looking for a replacement Fable 3 disc...after I had my crazy dream. Which, if y'all don't know about the story of my crazy dream, I'll share it at the end of the post.

So this is everything I got at the store today (I actually took the disc out of the Fable 3 case that I got from the store and put into my case because I'm petty as shit like that; I seriously, still to this day, don't know where my fucking copy went but I still had the case). And yes. That is indeed a Fable 3 guidebook.

Did anyone even freaking know there was a guidebook made for Fable 3??? I mean, we have the internet so literally a guidebook is pointless and isn't needed because we can look up all the walkthroughs on IGN or something, BUT HEY! The guidebook doesn't fucking have ads. Also, it has some flavor text that I may share whenever I decide to read through it.

But anyways, that's my haul of the day and this literally makes me so happy. I'm starting to think I might be a liiiiitle autistic about Fable, but it is deeply rooted into my childhood so...Fair.

If I haven't shared my prophetic dream about Fable with you guys before or you don't remember it and are interested, it's below the cut.

So, it was July 2020. I woke up one morning from a dream. The dream was specifically from a moment in Fable 3 where you have your dog find a digspot and you dig it up. That's it. That was the dream. But it was a dream that connected me to a core part of my childhood and I so badly wanted to replay Fable 3 from that dream alone. Just because, like I said, it's a deep part of my childhood.

I knew had the case for Fable 3, but as I had already searched for the game years before after mysteriously losing the disc, I figured it wasn't going to be in the case. And as guessed, my case was empty. Sad days.

So I begged my father to take me to GameStop to see if any had another copy of Fable 3. My dad obliged because I had my own money and this was something I really wanted. We went to four separate GameStops. Not a fucking single one had Fable 3. HOWEVER! One did have Fable 2. I had not played Fable 2 so I decided, I should probably get this anyways if I'm going to replay Fable 3 (so fucking glad I did).

We went home with Fable 2 in hand a disappointed Lily in the passenger seat. I, however, said fuck it. I caved and decided to buy the digital copy of Fable 3 on Xbox 360 (IT WAS 25 GOD DAMN DOLLARS STILL). Once finally purchasing the game, I sat down and played it. Took my time through it unlike my first playthrough. Completed it as you do. Bam boom. This whole adventure and playthrough happened over the course of abooout a week. Enter Fable 2. I had started playing it, first time ever playing this game by the way, when the news hit.

Fable was coming back.

I kid you not. A little over a week or so after having this very specific dream about the dog and the digspot and going on a manhunt for Fable 3 and deciding to get Fable 2 did the new reboot get announced.

Prophetic. Dream.

I mean how else can you even describe that?? It was some weird and funky shit.

Anyways, point is: I fucking love Fable and am so happy to have the full series and will finally attempt to play through all of it once again.

ohoho man. grab a seat anon, and let me tell you a really long and stupid story about a headcanon i had many moons ago...

i got into tf2 over the summer of 2011, when i was 14. somewhere at the end of the 2010-2011 school year, i went to a function that the local high school held to acclimate next year's incoming freshmen. while i was there i bumped into a friend from elementary school who i'd lost contact with, we traded Skypes (where my skypers at???), and he got me into this awesome game called Team Fortress 2, because, hey, it just went free to play!

(here's my proof i joined literally one week after it went f2p)

here's what you need to know about 14 year old Shebbz: i was extremely autistic. i had just found out about tumblr after spending my formative years on deviantart. i still did not process that i was a comphet lesbian. and i LOOOOOOVED scout! i loved him so much. scout was everything to me. he was ME and also he was my BOYFRIEND and i was drawing him on EVERY surface i could use a pencil on. all i played was scout. i was not good at it but that didn't stop me. i was textbook 14-year-old crazy and scout was the chosen vessel for it. also i drew like this:

ok. so. i'm insane. i love scout. thunder mountain is my favorite map because it's the prettiest and that's the only metric i judge anything by. and every day i talk tf2 with my friends at lunch, which is about three to five obnoxious 14 y/o boys. and i fucking wish i still had the paper or at least a scan of it, but one day i had the BRILLIANT idea for a headcanon for scout.

okay so get this, i tell my friends at lunch as i'm unzipping my backpack to grab my notebook. scout is so funny and cool right? nods of agreement. he's obviously way too cool for the other mercs to handle. he's hip and with-it. well, check out this idea i just had, i think it's got a lot of potential. i slide a piece of paper over the table to my very dear friend who got me into tf2.

it's two panels. the first has scout holding up his own drawing of the thunder mountain skybox scenery, storm clouds and all, and he's saying, "look guys, i drew thunder mountain!" in the second panel, all you see is bullet holes through the paper and, presumably, into his torso meat behind it. "ow," he says. he's crying a little.

now i thought i was really onto something here. i was excited to get talking and explore more headcanons branching off of this one.

but my friend shut that shit down IMMEDIATELY. lo, my obsession with scout has turned into bastardization! i have lost touch with the canon! at this point i have woobified scout into something completely divorced from the soul of the character! and my greatest crime-- baseless projection! put that bit from jurassic park about the scientists here. clearly, he surmised, i had been poisoned by all those saucy yaoi askblogs i'd been following at the time. (hey, leave askheavy out of this!)

i was ashamed. embarrassed. he read me like an open book. i felt like the scout in the drawing. i put the drawing up, did away with my frivolous little headcanon, and resolved to be more of a stickler for canon-accuracy in my fanworks. hell, i nearly ended up becoming something of a fandom police myself. but i always felt a little slighted. yes i was projecting, but because of that, it was so personal! so what if it was totally baseless? it meant something to me!!

anyway, that was late 2011. seasons came and changed the time... i later had a falling-out with that friend (for totally unrelated reasons) and switched high schools to a newer fancier one. i got diagnosed with bipolar and i was trying so, so, SO hard just to get out of bed and scrape through my classes with C's and D's.

2014. june. i'm 17 and i'm borderline comatose now that it's summer break and i have no reason to get out of bed in the morning. what little creative energy i have is directed towards my askblogs with incredibly inconsistent and sporadic results. and i really don't play tf2 much at this point. no energy for it.

but then... a light in the shadows. a triumphant fanfare. at long last, there's another tf2 animatic, and it has hand-delivered unto me the sweetest validation, the coldest dish of revenge, the delicious ice cream sundae of justice:
