get it right (the second time around) - a sequel to Double Dated, in which we focus on the budding relationship between Simea and Tamatoa while Moana and Maui work through some issues of their own. chapter 4 - ... in which Simea gets her parents' approval to date Tamatoa and their relationship gradually turns more serious.

“Soooo…” Sina said slowly, smiling at her daughter as she walked in. “How did your date go?” Tui crossed his arms over one another and looked at her sternly. “Not sure I approve of you kissing on the first date.” Simea turned a little pinker. Oh, if only he knew… “It was amazing… And he’s cute, so I wasn’t going to let him go without a kiss, dad.” Tui raised his eyebrows, not fully used to being talked back to in this way, but he shut up. “Did he propose another date?” Sina asked curiously, and Simea smiled. “Nothing concrete - but we’re going to call each other and just talk…” “So old-fashioned,” Tui remarked with a grin. “Don’t you youngsters prefer chatting and texting?” “Guess he’s not as much of a youngster as I am,” Simea said honestly.

“Mom, dad, remember this book I got from Moana three years ago?” Sina and Tui had been in the kitchen, cleaning up after dinner when Simea walked in, holding Tamatoa’s book. “Yeah,” Tui immediately replied. “You wouldn’t shut up about crabs for months after you got it.” “Yeah,” Simea agreed. “Crabs are a special interest of mine.” “Really?” Sina asked sarcastically, smiling warmly at her daughter. “We didn’t know.” Simea chuckled. “I met the author a few days ago,” she admitted. “It was fantastic. He knows so much about crabs and eh… I asked him on a date.” Tui and Sina exchanged a quick glance with one another. “Oh. Does the book have his picture?” Sina asked with great interest. Simea shook her head. “No, just crabs. He’s older than me. Moana’s age.” “Oh.” Sina’s expression dropped. “He must be quite handsome then,” Tui said knowingly, not too bothered about the age difference. “He is to me,” Simea said with a warm smile.

It felt like he was falling forever, making the jump down to Lalotai seem short in comparison, but when he spotted a small light at the bottom getting bigger, it took him a few moments before he realized it was Moana’s oar and tattoo, glowing golden.  “Maui!” she shouted, and he shouted back her name, just before he landed on one knee and his knuckles, his tattoos glowing as he’d prepared for a bit of damage.  There was no light where they were at all, and all they had were their glowing weapons and tattoos, and Moana was fast to approach him and take his hand, trying to find her bearing as they both moved their weapons through the air so the light could illuminate their surroundings, trying to figure out where they were or where they were supposed to go to. “Why is it so dark here?” she wondered, seeing rocky walls shimmer in the light of her oar nearby, so dark they were hardly visible to her eyes at all. “Is this the void?” “No.” He let the light of his hook and tattoos dim completely, and Moana squeezed his hand a little tighter because of it.  “What are you doing?”  “Having a little faith. Let your light dim too.”  She obeyed him. After all, he had three thousand years of experience in all sorts of places. If anyone could lead them out of here, it was him.
