Why do I keep seeing transmascs and trans men insisting or implying that all trans men are "female socialized," or "understand the female experience," or "navigated the world as a woman." Because yeah, sure, that can be true for some people. especially if you weren't gnc at all as a kid and didn't crack your egg until well into adulthood, it makes sense.
But they don't stop at saying they had that experience. It always comes with an addendum that trans men, as a group, all can relate to this experience. I don't know about the entirety of my demographic, but I never got even a little bit of what some of them talk about. I didn't even believe that women were scared of going out at night until I kept consistently seeing them say it, online or wherever, for years. I never realized catcalling was a thing until I saw some women complaining about it on reddit.
But they posit it as some sort of, you're safer than cis men, right? You know what it's like? Which, on top of being patently, demonstrably false in the case of myself and many other trans men, holds some unpleasant and often outright hostile implications about trans women. And they always deny it, but if you can't even conceptualize someone like me who grew up gnc, and never got the bulk (or any?) of whatever we consider to be 'female socialization,' what does that say about what you think trans girls went through, growing up? I don't want to speak for them, as I've never experienced that firsthand, but I can guarantee that (if you're even a little bit obviously trans) people don't treat you like a cis kid of the opposite gender. By and large, they don't get treated like cis boys.
It just makes me mad that we're taking this inaccurate framework that (ever so conveniently) puts trans people into the box of our assumed birth gender, and trying to fancy it up and use it with a faux-progressive veneer; never mind the way that transphobes use it to bar trans women from being athletes, or using the bathroom, or having access to any gendered resources they need. It would be bad enough to try and dust it off and use it even if it were largely accurate, due to the aforementioned connections to outright transphobia, but it literally is patently false. Not in all cases, obviously, but why are we trying to revamp this untrue, inaccurate generalization and pretend that we can make it 'trans-inclusive?'

Love that Brighton have invested up to 8 million in a women's training centre that was designed to mirror the men's facilities but is separate and belongs to them alone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The idea is that they can use this as a selling point to bring in top players attracted to the high end facilities as compared to even some of the bigger clubs in women's football (man utd this is your moment).
They consider is a long term investment that will see a return later and more of this please!
(and more coverage of them on tumblr please? Where are our Brighton fans, there must be someone here!)

thinking this labor day about all the athletes in women's sports who didn't have a stable league, who were only making decent money from a spot on their national team, who had to fight to get even a fraction of what they deserve. who spent their prime without a club league or the infrastructure to propel the sport. who came of age after title 9 in the usa [forcing schools to fund women/girls’ sports], the ones who fought for cbas and are only seeing big change at the end of their careers or after their careers concluded. who didn't have the media attention before, but are now showing just how much they can sell out stadiums and arenas. the players who played year round because overseas teams paid athletes what they were worth. athletes who endured and reported harassment but the league never took appropriate action. athletes who never had the media attention or ability to monetize their talent but who had careers that were just as impressive as the stars of today. who did it without the help of the science, technology, and medicine we have today. who set records with less support and fewer games in a season, which will be broken by kids who have had personal trainers since high school. athletes who played great games that are no long available to view, their talent no longer archived and accessible for young or new fans. athletes who still don't have a league or are just getting one in 2024. athletes who took it upon themselves to create change for which they will never reap the full rewards.

Modern AU Astrid would like rollerderby I think. She'd be on a team with Ruff and Heather. She'd be a blocker, along with Heather (you get to shove people) and I feel like Ruff would be a good jammer. The rest of their friends come to cheer them on at matches and even practice sometimes
Another great part of rollerderby is you get to pick a cool name for yourself! Heather literally already has the perfect one, "Heather the Unhinged" goes so unbelievably hard
Astrid would also do kickboxing. On the side. Also for their first date Hiccup takes her axe throwing in an attempt to woo her with something she enjoys. (Totally not so he can stare at her biceps while she throws.. what Totally Not. He's so unbelievably intimidated by her strength; he is head over heels) He thinks it's worth it even if he looks pathetic in comparison (it's okay tho she helps him out)

PWHL obvs just one of many (basically every) leagues to do it and I get revenue streams blah blah blah but nothing I hate more than “the games are on this place, unless it’s Tuesday then it’s on a different place that you need a ten dollar a month subscription for, and on Fridays one game will be on a different place that you can only stream on Roku and your grandma will never be able to find for another $10 a month,” like I used to end up on random overseas streaming websites to see nwsl games that were being played on lifetime don’t try me bitch

"BREAKING: We're doing something that's never been done before. We're going #ALLINLV and sponsoring EVERY. SINGLE. PLAYER. on the Las Vegas Aces roster this season!"
The city of Las Vegas is giving $100,000 to every player on the team… just to play basketball.

I’m gonna be rash for a second and point out how difficult it is to be a woman invested in sports
I legitimately know the rules to almost every sport in the olympics and the one time I corrected my male friend on a soccer play he himself corrected he started making fun of me and made me feel like I was an attention seeker for knowing more than him. I made a single comment to my friend about how a fictional sport would compare to real-life ones and she rolled her eyes and said I was just trying to brag. I’ve been talked out of sports by both men and women and i know plenty of girls have all had this same experience.
I’m not a pick me because I’m more well versed in sports than you. I’m not an elitist because I know I could deke you out and stick one top cheddar. I’m not trying to belittle you for what you lack, I’m trying to share what I possess. Sports are for everyone. I’m sick of people complaining that women in sports(both players and viewers) is undermanned and then proceeding have a critical reaction to a woman in sports. The day you stop ragging on women for the fact they have more brain activity than shopping shopping shopping! is the day you’ll finally realize what women can offer you and your game.

30 days of Harvest Moon - day 16. mining / fight
LUMINA USED ROCK-ET LAUNCH!
honestly is it really a farming sim if it doesn’t have a girls gauntlet fight that activates at 4:44 AM in the mines through your doghouse where the girlies take turns trying to beat you to death by throwing their love interests at you 🤔

i'm going to say something cynical but i think the fact that people on tumblr primarily engage with sports via rpf (which is valid tbf) does blind a large section of the users on here to the very real negative way sport teams and athletes operate.
