Why do I keep seeing transmascs and trans men insisting or implying that all trans men are "female socialized," or "understand the female experience," or "navigated the world as a woman." Because yeah, sure, that can be true for some people. especially if you weren't gnc at all as a kid and didn't crack your egg until well into adulthood, it makes sense.
But they don't stop at saying they had that experience. It always comes with an addendum that trans men, as a group, all can relate to this experience. I don't know about the entirety of my demographic, but I never got even a little bit of what some of them talk about. I didn't even believe that women were scared of going out at night until I kept consistently seeing them say it, online or wherever, for years. I never realized catcalling was a thing until I saw some women complaining about it on reddit.
But they posit it as some sort of, you're safer than cis men, right? You know what it's like? Which, on top of being patently, demonstrably false in the case of myself and many other trans men, holds some unpleasant and often outright hostile implications about trans women. And they always deny it, but if you can't even conceptualize someone like me who grew up gnc, and never got the bulk (or any?) of whatever we consider to be 'female socialization,' what does that say about what you think trans girls went through, growing up? I don't want to speak for them, as I've never experienced that firsthand, but I can guarantee that (if you're even a little bit obviously trans) people don't treat you like a cis kid of the opposite gender. By and large, they don't get treated like cis boys.
It just makes me mad that we're taking this inaccurate framework that (ever so conveniently) puts trans people into the box of our assumed birth gender, and trying to fancy it up and use it with a faux-progressive veneer; never mind the way that transphobes use it to bar trans women from being athletes, or using the bathroom, or having access to any gendered resources they need. It would be bad enough to try and dust it off and use it even if it were largely accurate, due to the aforementioned connections to outright transphobia, but it literally is patently false. Not in all cases, obviously, but why are we trying to revamp this untrue, inaccurate generalization and pretend that we can make it 'trans-inclusive?'

The ’70s Were A Crazy Time For Everyone
Republican Lawmakers Are Terrified Of Trump Running For President Again
Jimmy Carter
After the 1968 fiasco, the Democratic National Committee created a commission charged with proposing reforms to the nominating process.
Its report brought state delegate allocations into line with the distribution of population and required state parties to adopt open procedures for selecting delegates rather than allowing state party leaders to pick them in secret.
In practice, states mostly implemented this by adopting presidential primaries which generally induced Republicans to make the same change.
The new system kicked off a chaotic era in which mavericks and factional leaders could win over the objections of party leaders.
In 1972, McGovern took advantage of his own reforms to win the Democratic nomination, even with an ideology so unacceptable to major party factions that the AFL-CIO didn’t support him over Richard Nixon.
Then in 1976, Jimmy Carter won the Democratic nomination despite a total lack of ties to the party establishment in Washington, and proceeded to win the White House and then not pursue the party’s agenda.
Also in 1976, incumbent President Gerald Ford faced an extremely strong primary challenge from conservative leader Ronald Reagan and was forced to drop the incumbent vice president from the ticket in order to appease conservatives.
Four years later, incumbent President Carter was challenged from the left by Ted Kennedy, his renomination secured only by the rally-round-the-flag effect induced by the Iranian hostage crisis.
Trump As A Stalking Horse
Of course, there was plenty of speculation during the race for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination that Trump was trying to sabotage the GOP candidates by saying outrageous things and making a mockery of the process in a bid to help Hillary Clinton win the election.
âDonald Trump is trolling the GOP,â political reporter Jonathan Allen wrote. Trump also threatened to run for president as an independent, a move many believed would siphon votes from the Republican nominee as other, similar candidates have done in the past.
Sen Ted Cruz Of Texas
Cruz, 50, could start out a 2024 election campaign in a much stronger position than his first run in 2016, when he came in second. Its not uncommon for Republicans to select the recent runner up to later be their nominee which is what happened to Mitt Romney, John McCain, Bob Dole and Ronald Reagan.
A lot has happened to Cruz since 2016. For one, he became an ardent Trump supporter and grew a beard. But Cruz has also learned lessons from his first presidential run. Should he run again in the 2024 election, hed be a much more experienced campaigner with a more finely tuned message, higher name ID, and a carefully maintained donor base, one Republican strategist said.
Cruz has also faced backlash for objecting to President Joe Bidens Electoral College win. Following the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, seven Democrats asked the Senate Ethics Committee to investigate Cruz and Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., for amplifying claims of election fraud that led to violence. In Texas, the Republican Accountability Project paid for 100 billboards calling on Cruz to resign. Cruz also angered some close to him, like a longtime friend and former campaign chair who denounced him, and his chief spokesperson, who resigned, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Brock Pierce is a former child actor who appeared in the Mighty Ducks franchise and starred as the presidents son in the 1996 comedy First Kid. But thanks to his second career as a tech entrepreneur, hes also probably a crypto currency billionaire.
Why is he running for president? Partly because he is deeply concerned by the state of the country.
I think that we lack a real vision for the future I mean, what kind of world do we want to live in, in the year 2030? What is the plan? Where are we trying to get to, you know? You have to aim for something. And I see mostly just a lot of mud being thrown around, not a lot of people putting forth game-changing ideas. Its getting scary. And I have a view of what to do.
For the last four years, Mr Pierce has focused on philanthropic work in Puerto Rico, where his foundation recently raised a million dollars for PPE to give to first responders.
Asked what Americas priorities should be for the next four years, he suggests the country stops pursuing growth for growths sake, and measures its success by how well life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are upheld.
I have many liberal tendencies, just like I have conservative tendencies, Mr Pierce says. And I think its time we take a collective breath and a brave step into the future, because all of these ideologies have something to teach us.
And if he doesnt pull it off? Mr Pierce says he has offers.

All candidates for voter-nominated offices are listed on one ballot and only the top two vote-getters in the primary election regardless of party preference – move on to the general election. Write-in candidates for voter-nominated offices can only run in the primary election. A write-in candidate will only move on to the general election if the candidate is one of the top two vote-getters in the primary election.
Prior to the Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act, the top vote-getter from each qualified political party, as well as any write-in candidate who received a certain percentage of votes, moved on to the general election.
The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act does not apply to candidates running for U.S. President, county central committee, or local office.

Running
Has run for president twice before.
Is known for his down-to-earth personality and his ability to connect with working-class voters.
His eight years as Barack Obamas vice president are a major selling point for many Democrats.
Signature issues: Restoring Americas standing on the global stage; adding a public option to the Affordable Care Act; strengthening economic protections for low-income workers in industries like manufacturing and fast food.
Main legislative accomplishment as president: a sweeping tax cut that chiefly benefited corporations and wealthy investors.
Has focused on undoing the policies of the Obama administration, including on health care, environmental regulation and immigration.
Was impeached by the House of Representatives for seeking to pressure Ukraine to smear his political rivals, but was acquitted by the Senate.
Signature issues: Restricting immigration and building a wall at the Mexican border; renegotiating or canceling international deals on trade, arms control and climate change; withdrawing American troops from overseas.
Ended her campaign in March 2020 and said she would back Mr. Biden.
Republican Presidential Hopefuls Move Forward As Trump Considers 2024 Run
Print
Less than three months after former President Trump left the White House, the race to succeed him is already beginning.
Trumps former secretary of State, Michael R. Pompeo, has launched an aggressive schedule visiting states that will play a pivotal role in the 2024 Republican primaries and has signed a contract with Fox News Channel. Mike Pence, Trumps former vice president, has started a political advocacy group, finalized a book deal and later this month will give a speech in South Carolina, his first since leaving office. And Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been courting donors, including in Trumps backyard, with a prominent speaking slot before the former president at a GOP fundraising retreat dinner this month at Mar-a-Lago, the Florida resort where Trump now lives.
Trump ended his presidency with such a firm grip on Republican voters that party leaders fretted he would freeze the field of potential 2024 candidates, delaying preparations as he teased another run. Instead, many Republicans with national ambitions are openly laying the groundwork for campaigns as Trump continues to mull his own plans.
Theyre raising money, making hires and working to bolster their name recognition. The moves reflect both the fervor in the party to reclaim the White House and the reality that mounting a modern presidential campaign is a years-long endeavor.

Elites Still Matter Enormously In Primaries
George H.W. Bush
Just when journalists and political scientists were ready to proclaim the death of parties in favor of candidate-centered politics, the pendulum started to swing back.
Over the past 35 years, incumbent presidents have had zero problems obtaining renomination even presidents like George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton who alienated substantial segments of the party base with ideological heterodoxy during their first term. Reagan and Clinton both passed the baton to their vice presidents without much trouble.
Insurgent candidates who caught fire with campaigns explicitly promising to shake up the party establishment Gary Hart in 1984, Pat Robertson in 1988, Jerry Brown in 1992, Pat Buchanan in 1996, John McCain and Bill Bradley in 2000, Howard Dean in 2004, Mike Huckabee in 2008, and Rick Santorum in 2012 repeatedly gained headlines and even won state primaries.
But while 1970s insurgents were able to use early wins to build momentum, post-Reagan insurgents were ground down by the sheer duration and expansiveness of primary campaigns.
Tactics that worked in relatively low-population, cheap states like Iowa and New Hampshire simply couldn’t scale without access to the broad networks of donors, campaign staff, and policy experts that establishment-backed candidates enjoyed.
It’s this “invisible primary” among party elites that truly matters.
Endorsements were better at predicting the outcome than polls, fundraising numbers, or media coverage.

Wheres Kamala Last Person In Room Harris Silent 6 Days Amid Afghan Pullout Chaos
Democrats are increasingly fearful Vice President Kamala Harris missteps will open the door for Republicans to regain the White House, a new report said Friday.
Dems, including senior White House officials, fear that Harris will lose to any Republican she faces including former President Donald Trump if President Biden does not seek reelection in 2024, Axios reported.
At 56, Harris is more than two decades Bidens junior and has been considered the heir apparent to the 46th president since he selected her to be his running mate last year.
While Harris will still be the presumptive nominee if Biden becomes the first president since Lyndon Johnson to not seek a second full term, Axios reports that a series of blunders have left officials and operatives concerned.
Right now, one operative told Axios, the feeling among Democrats isnt Oh, no, our heir apparent is fing up, what are we gonna do? Its more that people think, Oh, shes fing up, maybe she shouldnt be the heir apparent.
Harris has repeatedly been criticized for her handling of the illegal immigration crisis along the US-Mexico border, a problem Biden dumped in her lap in March by tasking her to deal with the root causes of the issue.
According to Axios, several White House officials have also described Harris office as a shtshow, poorly managed, and staffed with people who dont know the vice president well.

Georgia And Arizona Senators Show Progressive
Walker, the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner and a Wrightsville, Ga., native, has long lived in Texas after a professional football career that ended in Dallas, but he changed his voter registration last week to an Atlanta house owned by his wife, Julie Blanchard. Blanchard is under investigation by the Georgia secretary of states office over potential illegal voting after The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported she voted in Georgia despite living in Texas.
Walker has also repeated false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election despite elections officials finding no evidence of widespread fraud that affected the outcome.
Its unclear when Walker will make a formal Senate announcement. The campaign paperwork filed Tuesday ends months of speculation about his political plans, including a prediction in June from Trump that the former football star would soon suit up for the Republican primary.
He told me hes going to, and I think he will, Trump said on the conservative talk radio Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show. Hes a great guy. Hes a patriot. And hes a very loyal person, hes a very strong person. They love him in Georgia, Ill tell you.
Some national Republicans have been wary of Walkers candidacy, though. The first-time candidate comes with potential baggage that could harm his chances in both the primary and general elections, including his Texas residency.

None Of Them Can Win But They Could Play Spoiler

Remember when half of American white males over the age of 40 declared themselves for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016? There were so many candidates that they couldnt fit them all on two packed debate stages. One guy stayed in after receiving a grand total of 12 votes in the Iowa caucuses; in New Hampshire, Jim Gilmores showing improved to , an unprecedented 1,000 percent increase. Reader: He didnt withdraw for another six days.
Since Donald Trump is our incumbent president, and will thus almost surely be the GOP nominee in 2020, we should be spared a repeat, and really ought to be able to give our undivided attention to the approximately 437 mostly Social Security-eligible senators, governors, congressmen, mayors, and billionaire activists looking to run on the Democratic ticket in 2020. Unfortunately, Trump will almost certainly be challenged, either in the ostensibly meaningless Republican primaries or by one or more independent right-of-center candidates.
Stephen Bannon thinks 2020 will be a proper three-way race. #NeverTrumpers are already ferreting around for someone to challenge the president for the GOP nomination. I just finished reading a book about the French resistance. It reminds me of that. Us Election : The Other 1214 Candidates Running For President
The US has had presidents for more than 230 years, but only the first George Washington has ever been elected as an independent candidate.
The twin peaks of US politics, the Republican and Democratic parties, dominate media coverage and campaign donations so completely that the chances of an outsider winning are virtually nil.
What kind of person looks at those near-insurmountable odds and thinks Im running anyway?
Quite a range as it turns out: As of 9 October, some 1,216 candidates have filed with the Federal Election Commission to run for president.
The BBC asked three of them a concert pianist and motivational speaker, a Native American IT technician, and a crypto billionaire what they stand for, and why they deserve the votes of Americans.
President Trump Your Legacy Is Secure Stop The Stolen Election Rhetoric
As many on the left have pointed out, the 2020 election was less a repudiation of Trump than a narrow loss for a man who proved just unpalatable enough for a critical sliver of his coalition.
Sean Spicer, a former Trump press secretary, told The Post his ex-boss would be an instant front-runner in a 2024 primary. He has a rock-solid base, I just dont think that there is anyone else who even comes close.
Teasing a potential run in 2024 would at the very least ensure Trump stays relevant and in the press for years to come.
If Trump himself passes on the opportunity, his two very political children Don Jr. and Ivanka Trump could also potentially pick up the mantle. Trump Jr. has long acted as an outside surrogate for his father online and in the press and connects strongly with his base. Ivanka, meanwhile, has years of administration experience under her belt as a White House adviser to her father.

A bipartisan group of eight senators had crafted a comprehensive immigration bill that appeared to have support in the House GOP. But in June, when the Senate passed it—68 to 32, with 14 Republicans voting yes—House members found themselves under siege from constituents and conservative groups. The fatal flaw: It provided a path to citizenship, albeit a winding one, for people in the country illegally. Many conservatives could support a path to legal status but not citizenship; Democrats, on the other hand, essentially took a citizenship-or-nothing approach. Boehner was boxed in: He wanted immigration reform, and personally didn’t mind citizenship—especially for minors brought to the U.S. unwittingly. But putting the bill on the floor meant it might pass into law with perhaps as few as 40 or 50 of his members voting yes. Conservatives would never forgive him for overruling the vast majority of his membership. Looking back, Boehner says not solving immigration is his second-biggest regret, and he blames Obama for “setting the field on fire.” But the former speaker doesn’t mention the nativist voices in his own party that came to dominate the debate, foreshadowing the presidential campaign three years later. Ultimately, the speaker’s immigration quandary boiled down to a choice between protecting his right flank and doing what he thought was right for the country—and Boehner chose the former.
It wasn’t the only time. That summer, conservatives were also getting an earful about the Obamacare exchanges opening on October 1. House Republicans had voted repeatedly to repeal the law but the Senate refused to act, and their constituents, justifiably, wanted to know why Obamacare still existed when they had been promised otherwise. “Somehow, out on the campaign trail, the representation was made that you could beat President Obama into submission to sign a repeal of the law with his name on it,” Cantor says. “And that’s where things got, I think, disconnected from reality.” (In Ohio, listening to his pals groan about Obamacare, Boehner explains why his former colleagues haven’t repealed it: “Their gonads shriveled up when they learned this vote was for real.”)
Republicans’ penchant for overpromising and underdelivering would ultimately enable the ascent of Donald Trump, who positioned himself as a results-oriented outsider who would deliver where politicians had failed. In the shorter term, it invited something less dramatic: a government shutdown. Eager to demonstrate that all options were being exhausted to defeat Obamacare, Ted Cruz in the Senate and conservatives in the House concocted a plan: Because the government needed new funding on October 1, the same day the exchanges would open, they would propose funding the rest of the federal government—while defunding Obamacare.
Boehner objected. Not only would Democrats never go for it; Republicans would be blamed for the resulting government shutdown. “I told them, ‘Don’t do this. It’s crazy. The president, the vice president, Reid, Pelosi, they’re all sitting there with the biggest shit-eating grins on their faces that you’ve ever seen, because they can’t believe we’re this fucking stupid.’” (Boehner, at one point, surprises me by saying he’s proud of Cruz—whom he once called “Lucifer in the flesh”—for acting responsibly in 2017. Do you feel badly about calling him Lucifer, I ask? “No!” Boehner snorts. “He’s the most miserable son of a bitch I’ve ever had to work with.”)
After railing against the defund strategy, however, Boehner surveyed his conference and realized it was a fight many members wanted—and some needed. Yielding, he joined them in the trenches, abandoning his obligations of governance in hopes of strengthening his standing in the party. But the 17-day shutdown proved costly. Watching as Republicans got butchered in nationwide polling, the speaker finally called a meeting to inform members that they would vote to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling. “I get a standing ovation,” Boehner says. “I’m thinking, ‘This place is irrational.’
This one excerpt shows so much about the modern Republican Party and everything wrong with it - it’s hypocrisy ten times over. It’s completely irrational. It’s based on promises that physically couldn’t be kept (they were never going to fully repeal Obamacare without control of the Senate pre-2014, or while Obama was the president, and they haven’t even been able to do it now, with full control of all three branches of government). Their ideology is based on a fundamental need to appease a base that has no coherent policy goals, and no real platform that can be applied to the actual practice of governing.
(Also, just the part about Ted Cruz is really great. John Boehner: Hey Ted, I’m proud of you. Also, working with you was like working with Satan himself.)

Welcome to FiveThirtyEight’s weekly politics chat. The transcript below has been lightly edited.
sarahf (Sarah Frostenson, politics editor): We’re back with a snake draft of 2020 Democratic presidential contenders, but this time with a twist — we’re picking the … VICE PRESIDENT.
I know — we don’t know who the presidential nominee is yet. But let’s face it: Even if the primary field grows to 20-plus Democrats, only one can win the nomination. So we might as well talk about who would make a desirable running mate (if not commander-in-chief). And before you scoff, a candidate’s choice for VP can signal a lot about what he or she prioritizes or considers to be a campaign weakness.
Remember, we’re trying to pick someone who’d make a good second-in-command, although our picks tend to diminish in quality as the rounds wear on. The rules are as follows: Four rounds, so between the four of us, 16 potential 2020 Democratic veeps. Let’s determine the order. (I’m going to write our names on paper and recruit someone in the office to draw them out of a hat while Nate orders some Chinese takeout.)
natesilver (Nate Silver, editor in chief): I’m pretty excited about this, I gotta say.
(The VP draft, not just the Chinese food.)
geoffrey.skelley (Geoffrey Skelley, elections analyst): All about a well-balanced meal, or presidential ticket.
sarahf: The lineup:
Clare
Nate
Geoff
Sarah
natesilver: Pretty happy with the No. 2 pick here.
sarahf: I can’t believe I have to go twice in a row. I hate
Tumblr media
drafts. Anyway, get us started, Clare!
clare.malone (Clare Malone, senior political writer): mmmmk
Cory Booker
natesilver: bad pick
sarahf: good pick
clare.malone: Here’s my reasoning:
I’m going to operate for a moment on the premise that the “electability” factor that Democratic primary voters say they are going for in 2020 is a stand-in for a centrist-type candidate, and probably a white person. Under those conditions, a white candidate would want to pick Booker for his identity and ability to appeal to black voters, which is a big part of the Democratic primary electorate. But Booker also appeals to the establishment wings of the party and has the sort of resume where you wouldn’t mind setting him up to run for president someday in the future, but with a West Wing office.
geoffrey.skelley: Booker would have been my first pick, too.
sarahf: Still think it’s a bad pick, Nate?
clare.malone: Yes, he does on principle, which I respect.
natesilver: There are two obvious picks, and Booker was maybe the third-best pick after those two obvious ones.
sarahf: Well, then. I don’t suppose I should delay the draft any longer.
You’re up, Nate!
clare.malone: I’m on tenterhooks, with bated breath, etc.
natesilver: I’m going with … Robert (“Beto”) O’Rourke.
clare.malone: bad pick
(I, too, have my principles.)
natesilver: No, it’s a great pick.
geoffrey.skelley: You guys are on a roll.
natesilver: Here’s why: 1) There’s about a 55 percent chance (per Betfair) that the nominee will not be a white dude. 2) If the nominee is not a white dude, the VP probably will be a white dude. 3) The other white dudes are too old (Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders) or would cost Democrats a Senate seat (Sherrod Brown). Hence, Beto.
sarahf: Hmm, I think Beto’s lack of resume disqualifies him (section IV in this article) as VP material, but not necessarily for a presidential run because in that case, charisma matters more than experience.
clare.malone: Nate is just coming at the likelihood of who will be at the top of the ticket differently than I am.
O’Rourke is the right pick if you’re doing Nate’s reasoning of a minority candidate being the nominee.
In that case, O’Rourke is popular, white and young, which would make for a good VP.
natesilver: See, I thought the lack of a resume would make him even more qualified to be VP since it’s a job where you don’t really do anything. He could go around the country eating ice cream and staying at weird motels and blogging about it.
sarahf: Maybe, but I’d argue that VPs have historically been a pretty overqualified bunch.
clare.malone: What do you think is his motel chain of choice?
natesilver: Lol, Beto doesn’t stay at chains, Clare!
clare.malone: You don’t think he’s racking up Holiday Inn Express points?
geoffrey.skelley: A corollary to the craft beer track is the local motel track.
clare.malone: (I love a Holiday Inn, by the way. Always my preference on the road. As is McDonald’s over Burger King.)
BRAND LOYALTY IS IMPORTANT AS AN AMERICAN
sarahf: OK, Geoff, take it away with pick No. 3.
geoffrey.skelley: I made up a little rubric for leading presidential contenders to get a rough calculation of who might best balance a ticket or meet some missing criteria for the major contenders. And this will shake things up, but I think Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth best hits the mark of the remaining options out there.
sarahf: Interesting pick.
Do tell us more.
natesilver: “Interesting” is a euphemism for “bad” where I come from.
geoffrey.skelley: She’s got one hell of a story.
She’s the first disabled congresswoman, having lost both of her legs while serving in Iraq as a helicopter pilot. And she is someone of mixed ethnicity from the Midwest.
Outside of Biden, I’m not really sure of the foreign policy credentials of any of the other Democratic presidential candidates. Booker is on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, but Duckworth’s military experience would be an asset.
clare.malone: I’m going to offend Foggy Bottom here and say that people don’t care about foreign policy all that much anymore.
Tumblr media
geoffrey.skelley: I think Duckworth could be a presidential candidate someday if she doesn’t get involved in 2020.
natesilver: She was born in Thailand, to a U.S. citizen, so there would probably be debate about her eligibility, a la Ted Cruz.
And I did have her on my list, as I think she’s one of the more plausible nonpresidential contenders who could become VP.
But … like … the fact that she hasn’t expressed any interest in the presidency — doesn’t that also mean she might not want the vice presidency?
sarahf: Her military background is definitely a win for Democrats, but like Nate said, I’m not sure she wants so high-profile of a gig.
clare.malone: She also just had a baby, which might have something to do with not wanting to run right now.
sarahf: OK, I’m here with picks 4 and 5! And I think you all will agree I have some very good picks.
First of all, Vice President Julian Castro.
natesilver: Not bad.
One of my top 2 is still on the board, though.
sarahf: I’m a little surprised no one has claimed him, but my thought is that Castro already has the grooming as a former Cabinet secretary. And I think his message as a Latino American challenging Trump is powerful.
That said, I don’t think it’s powerful enough to win him the nomination. (I just don’t think he has enough name recognition.)
geoffrey.skelley: I wrote Castro’s theory of the case and agree there’s definitely an “I’m running for VP” vibe.
clare.malone: He seems sort of a dull penny in a race filled with shiny pennies.
natesilver: But sometimes that’s what candidates are going for. Tim Kaine is in the “dull penny” bucket. Mike Pence, too.
clare.malone: I agree he has experience and the resume, but there are lots of other people who might make a more interesting choice with similar resumes.
And this is true, Nate, but are we in that era?
geoffrey.skelley: Castro would probably be a decent choice for Biden, Sanders or Elizabeth Warren.
natesilver: Democrats could also talk themselves into thinking they need to double-down on the Hispanic vote.
Maybe Sanders or Warren, Geoffrey. Biden might need to pick someone who is more identifiably to his left?
geoffrey.skelley: Fair point regarding ideology — where Castro stands on a number of issues is a big unknown.
The Electoral College would also complicate — if not exclude — a Castro choice if O’Rourke were to become the nominee.1
sarahf: Guess that means no O’Rourke-Castro ticket in our future.
But OK, my next pick is Amy Klobuchar.
geoffrey.skelley: arrrrgh
Probably could’ve waited on Duckworth and taken Klobuchar, but the first pick is fun and splashy.
sarahf: Klobuchar’s Midwestern chops make her desirable electorally.
And with four women already among the major candidates, if a woman is not at the top of the ticket, she needs to be in the second spot.
natesilver: My suppositions are that 1) there will not be two women on the ticket; 2) there will not be two people of color on the ticket; and 3) there will not be two white men on the ticket.
But you could have a white man and a nonwhite man, e.g. Biden and Booker.
Or a white man and a white woman, e.g. Beto and Klobuchar.
sarahf: In which case, Nate’s first scenario could render my pick useless, but I’m not so sure a woman will win the top spot.
Also, at this stage Klobuchar is the highest-profile “moderate” to throw her hat in the ring, which could help someone like Kamala Harris or Sanders if they were to win the nomination, although I probably agree with Nate that two women on the ticket is not going to happen.
natesilver: Klobuchar definitely has the electability thing going for her, she’s not too old, and no big issues re: her qualifications.
sarahf: OK, remind me how snake drafts work … Geoff is up again?
geoffrey.skelley: This is kind of tough — I have a pick in mind, but I think she’s unlikely to take the No. 2 slot, so I’ll wait. So I’m going with Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet instead.
natesilver: ehhhhh
I guess he’s in the Kaine category of nonshiny white dude.
sarahf:
Tumblr media
But TBF, there are several possible nominees that fall into this category.
geoffrey.skelley: If the nominee is a woman and/or a minority, he’s a sort of bland Kaine-esque pick that might be needed. He hails from a battleground state, is Western and went viral recently with his floor speech during the government shutdown. Who knows, he might even be eying an under-the-radar presidential bid.
clare.malone: dull penny
But I guess a dull penny is still legal tender.
natesilver: Is Colorado really a battleground state anymore? Probably not with Trump on the ballot.
clare.malone: My favorite part of that Bennet floor speech was how uncomfortable Alabama Sen. Doug Jones looked to be caught on camera sitting next to the rant.
geoffrey.skelley: I get the dull penny point, but it’s also worth remembering that the presidential nominee is NOT going to want someone who outshines them.
sarahf: Fair.
natesilver: Is it my pick now? One of my top two — the one who isn’t Beto — is still on the board.
sarahf: Well then, take ’em off, Nate. Who is it!?!?
natesilver: Kamala Harris
clare.malone: fuck
You stole my pick.
And it doesn’t even go with your theory!
Not fair.
It goes with MY theory.
geoffrey.skelley: Well, I was tempted to take her both times. But I don’t think she’ll take it unless it’s as Biden’s VP. She can camp out in that California Senate seat, which isn’t up again until 2022, and wait for another chance in 2024 or 2028.
natesilver: I mean — I said earlier there’s a 55 percent chance that the nominee isn’t a white dude. That means there’s a 45 percent chance that it will be a white dude.
clare.malone: Wait, is that how percentages work??
natesilver: Clare, the way percentages work is that if you say something has a 29 percent chance of happening, that actually means there is a 0 percent chance.
clare.malone: ahhhh
natesilver: Biden-Harris is a very natural pairing, especially since Biden will have to shore up support on his left.
Beto-Harris could also work. It’s a bit more of a Clinton-Gore dynamic.
The thing is, though, that we could also very easily wind up with an unnatural arrangement where a deal is brokered on the convention floor.
So I like Harris’s VP chances partly because I like her presidential chances to win, but also to be one of the runners-up if she doesn’t.
clare.malone: OK, I’m up.
Stacey Abrams.
natesilver: Hmm
clare.malone: Since Nate stole my pick for my theory of the case for this chat — that the top of the ticket will probably be white — I’m going with Abrams as a popular black candidate who’s a rising political star.
Although I know there’s buzz about her running for the Senate.
natesilver: “Hmm” isn’t passive-aggressive like “interesting.” I’m generally hmm-ing about whether I like the pick.
clare.malone: But Abrams would be a really interesting, bold move for whomever the nominee ends up being. And Abrams would get a huge boost in national profile.
sarahf: Plus, even though VPs don’t necessarily help the ticket carry their home state, it could be an interesting move for Democrats to pick someone who hails from the Deep South.
geoffrey.skelley: Beto-Abrams: Losing to Win.
natesilver: But are there going to be questions about her experience level? Especially since a black woman isn’t likely to get the benefit of the doubt?
clare.malone: Definitely a criticism that would be leveled.
Then again, maybe we are in the midst of busting up the experience paradigm in presidential politics.
natesilver: Last full round, then a lightning round?
We used to go six rounds back in my day.
But we can treat this as a semi-lightning round, a “thunder round,” if you will.
OK, Clare, we need another pick from you.
clare.malone: I know, Nate. I’m thinking.
geoffrey.skelley: Lot of boring white guys out there.
clare.malone: I’m going to switch my theory of the case midround and operate with the theory that a minority will be at the top of the ticket, so I’m going with the wunderkind of South Bend, Pete Buttigieg.
A lot of the top tier people are taken, but he’d be an interesting Midwestern pick … despite his experience problem, obviously.
geoffrey.skelley: For what it’s worth, Abrams has more experience than Buttigieg — she served in the Georgia House of Representatives for about 10 years and was that body’s minority leader more than half that time. Buttigieg has been mayor of South Bend, Indiana, for seven years.
clare.malone: Well, she’s been picked and the pickings are slim!
sarahf: Potential VPs like Buttigieg, Abrams and Beto are all challenging my notion of the kind of experience a VP should have as an elder statesman or stateswoman.
clare.malone: Brown is someone you’d WANT to pick here, but the possibility of losing the Senate seat is obviously a big problem.
natesilver: So … uhhh … do we think a presidential candidate is going to feel safe picking a gay/lesbian/bi VP candidate?
The country is progressive, but it isn’t that progressive.
This is also relevant to Tammy Baldwin and Kyrsten Sinema, both of whom would also be interesting choices.
clare.malone: Yeah, Tammy Baldwin is maybe a better choice, actually.
And yes, Nate, that’s an open question for sure.
natesilver: OK, my pick?
sarahf: Yup.
natesilver: I am going with …. Pennsylvania Sen. Robert “Bob” Casey Jr.
sarahf: Deep cut.
natesilver: From a crucial swing state, but a Democratic governor would pick his replacement.
He also seemed to at least flirt with the idea of running for president, so he’d probably be interested.
geoffrey.skelley: Abortion politics make him a problematic pick, although the geography makes perfect sense.
And Tim Kaine’s personal pro-life position didn’t foul up Hillary Clinton, so maybe Casey would work for someone like Harris, too.
natesilver: I do agree the abortion thing could be an issue, although his record has shifted to the left over the years.
And he’d be the choice of a candidate who wanted to pivot to the center — someone like Warren. The Harris-Casey fit seems weird, but in theory that could work, too.
Booker-Casey is also not crazy.
geoffrey.skelley: All right. I’ve got some swing state women in mind — I’m going with Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada.
natesilver: Very deep cut.
geoffrey.skelley: Latina from a battleground state with a Democratic governor who could appoint her replacement.
natesilver: Yeah, it all makes sense.
geoffrey.skelley: Not a well-known name, but again whoever is at the top of the ticket may not want a high-profile pick. Instead, he or she may be looking for balance.
natesilver: O’Rourke-Cortez Masto really rolls off the tongue
sarahf: OK, I’m up. One “thunder pick” and then a “lightning pick” to take us home.
My thunder pick is: Sherrod Brown despite reservations about picking him earlier.
natesilver: Pretty good for the Thunder round.
Sorry, thunder.
(Reading too much NBA stuff so was thinking about the Oklahoma City Thunder.)
sarahf: He has the policy chops and geographical pull a ticket might need — Senate seat be damned.
geoffrey.skelley: He would make a lot of sense for many candidates.
natesilver: Brown has a real crossover appeal between the left and the “beer track” that makes him very interesting.
But it would help if Ohio weren’t soooo far gone as a swing state, or seemingly so.
Like, I think he’d put Ohio “in play” but not necessarily make the Democrat the favorite there in a 50-50 national race.
sarahf:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LIGHTNING ROUND
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gavin Fucking Newsom
natesilver:
Tumblr media
geoffrey.skelley: Say wut.
sarahf: Look, he’s got the ambition: two-term mayor of San Francisco before a quick stint as California’s lieutenant governor. And now he’s the governor of California! Depending on the tone Democrats want to strike in opposing Trump, he could be a formidable foe.
That said, I freely admit he’s a wild card. And a bit of a trollish pick from me.
clare.malone: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I have to say something here.
The recent New Yorker profile of him was fucking amazing
sarahf: It was, Clare. And may have inspired my choice.
clare.malone: I have very rarely seen the bald insecurities of a politician so perfectly laid out.
sarahf: But enough of my nonsense. You’re up, Geoff.
geoffrey.skelley: Sticking with Tammys, I’ll take Sen. Baldwin of Wisconsin.
sarahf: Nice. She’d made my list before I went renegade.
geoffrey.skelley: She said she isn’t interested in running for president, but maybe the VP slot? She would be a battleground senator from the Midwest, and as one of the most liberal senators, she’d be a friendly pick on the left of the party.
sarahf: Democrats are going to need that Midwestern cred.
natesilver: Clare claims she can predict my pick.
clare.malone: I think I know…
natesilver: It’s a pretty boring pick.
Kirsten Gillibrand.
clare.malone: booo
Not who I thought.
natesilver: Gillibrand’s just … I mean, out of the various presidential contenders who aren’t too old, she was the one left standing.
geoffrey.skelley: And she’d take it, too, I suspect. Unlike some of the others.
natesilver: Which is a bit damning with faint praise. But she’s theoretically got appeal to different parts of the Democratic base. She’ll probably raise a lot of money.
clare.malone: That’s a BIG thing, I think.
Very useful to have that fundraising know-how around.
natesilver: She has to perform reasonably well in the primaries. Have a “surge” at some point, even if she doesn’t win any states. If she totally flames out, I don’t think it works.
clare.malone: OK, I’m going to pick who I thought Nate was going to pick because I just want to.
natesilver: Haha, OK. I’m wondering if you’re going to pick who I thought you’d think I’d pick.
clare.malone: …
Doug Jones.
Nate used to LOVE talking about Doug Jones as a presidential nominee.
And Jones is a moderate, up for a tough re-elect in 2020.
Why the heck not!
geoffrey.skelley: It’s going to be hard for him to hold on as a red state Democratic senator, so why not?
natesilver: Haha, I thought you’d pick Dougie J.
He’s a classic Nate last-round pick.
clare.malone: Yes, he is.
natesilver: And I was probably going to take him if Gillibrand weren’t still on the board.
clare.malone: In that case, I feel somewhat vindicated.
sarahf: A final look at our VP-2020 teams. Tweet at us whose lineup you like best:

100 Days of Trump Day 24: State of the Union
Ok so 24 installments in, I think it is about time we take this segment into a new direction, at least for now.  I’ve spoken a lot about the psychology and mindset of the Trump base and the way they turn their own loneliness into Right wing extremism, but as i’ve shown, that has been a problem in the US since the 40s, why did this psychology emerge in Trumpism now?  Well because the system itself made it possible, Trump didn’t happen in a vacuum, for Trump to happen you need to have an American political system which has utterly failed, and lets talk about the two party system.  Remember, 51% of Trump voters said they didn’t even like Trump, they just hated Clinton and would have voted for somebody else if they were a viable option available.  And this isn’t new, in fact it is very old, because in 1948 (second film in a row from that year) Frank Capra made another film in his long list of “Movies about how America works” talking about this exact problem, state of the Union.
Tumblr media
Also this movie has Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn so automatically you should check it out.
The film follows a a Republican Newspaper magnate named Kay Thorndyke, who wants to make her lover Grant Matthews president, and comes up with this elaborate scenario where he, a dark horse candidate can win the Republican nomination.  Despite being a CEO, Grant is idealistic, efficient, and very progressive (remember this is back when the two parties were very different from today) and gets very popular with the people by advocating reform policies.  There is a great bit where he says that the best way Capitalism can survive is by supporting welfare policies for the poor and creating a stronger social safety net, because otherwise it will lead to greater wealth inequality, corporate corruption, and a giant economic crash which will make communism all the more appealing.  However since he keeps saying that, special interests start pulling away from him, and you get this situation where he is very popular with people who hear his speeches, but shockingly unpopular among the levels of power and so his campaign suffers.  So of course he sells out and losses his soul and critically it becomes impossible to tell him apart from everybody else around him, its like if Bernie sanders sold out.
Tumblr media
So the content of the film is something we already know, anybody who is anybody understands the process of selling out in politics, the reason why I recommend this film is two fold.  Firstly, seeing it happen to a character and with a very talented actor is fascinating, because you can see his psychology at work.  He isn’t some hackneyed souless political shill who has never had a belief in his life, he is a passionate idealistic person who actually wants to make a difference, but sells out anyways, and remember, a lot of our elected officials still feel like they can make a difference, they just think the only way to do that is to sacrifice their humanity and don’t realize how self defeating this is.
Tumblr media
Secondly, a big reason why Trump won is how utterly generic his opposition was, at no point did he go up against anybody with an actual personality that had you know...feelings.  Everybody at the Republican GOP was this fucking empty shell.  Let me give an example, you know the moment when Trump won the GOP nomination?  It was was here (You only need to watch the first 55 seconds, after that it is just Trump blithering)
youtube
You know why?
Because at a debate where every person there was acting as robotic and cautious as possible Trump acted like a human being.  A terrible human being, a narcissistic sociopathic man baby, but a human being, who reacted to a situation differently.  And it was a risk, in hindsight that worked out great for him, but Trump took a massive risk there and people like risk, it shows you are different.  The GOP establishment accidentally created the greatest Trump ad ever, because say what you will about the utterly horrible man, he isn’t like any other American political figure.
Cause when our political leaders smooth themselves out, make themselves as generic and hollow as they possible can, and above all boring, and most political campaigns are between a bunch of old white men trying to be just slightly less boring than the other guy.  And then here is Trump, writ large, walking around with absolutely no care in the world for appearance, politics.....basic facts....basic decency.....anything and while he is the world’s second greatest asshole (next to Ted Cruz) he again, comes off as a human being.  The 2012 election was a major reason why Trump won as well, because it was so disheartening to see Obama, the most human political figure in our life time, come off as boring when up against the Romneybot and a lot of people voted in 2016 out of frustration with 2012.
Tumblr media
It is worth Remembering that unlike in 2012, Rand Paul ran a much more conventional campaign.  In 2012 he was the outsider firebrand libertarian nutjob candidate, and got a lot of popularity that way, but didn’t win, and so, proving that he actually isn’t all that bright, he thought he should make himself more conventional this year, betting on the fact that he would be the most strange of the Republicans without scaring off the establishment.  All that did though was mean that his disillusioned fans just went to Trump, Cruz did the same thing.  A huge part of 2016 was frustration with the political system at its whole and whoever was able to come off as the least political candidate was going to win.....which is why Hillary Clinton was the absolute worse choice to go up against Donald Trump, because when we talk about boring standard politicians who are appealing to special interests before people, dear god is Clinton the democratic party’s platonic version of that.  The Republican version btw is Jeb Bush, and after Trump mauled Jeb, we really should have figured that Clinton would met the same fate, because after a few decades of this shit, people are really fucking sick of political sell outs.
Tumblr media
That isn’t to say that voting for Trump is acceptable, because it isn’t, the man is a racist cartoon character, and I think if you voted for him you are going to bear that sin for the rest of your days, only that we need to understand why Trump won in 2016 and lost in 2012.
The final reason why I recommend State of the Union (remember when I was talking about that), because while this political system is about special interests, the wealthy and selling out, it isn’t designed that way, it isn’t a conspiracy, its more of a social environment where everybody is encouraged to do the same thing.  Because if the system was actually a coherent organized force run by like 9 guys, its automatic, it unconscious.  Because in many ways the system fucked itself over with its own elitist bullshit.  The electoral college, the Loyalty Pledge, the Primary system, all things designed to encourage establishment candidates winning only screwed over the mainstream and helped the fringe, the system played itself.  State of the Union is a very good example of the choices most politicians make, even those who actually do acre and remind us that while they don’t want to show it, these guys are human beings, making choices because of the options presented to them.
Tumblr media
Also Ronald Reagan evidently saw this film as a model of how to become president, so clearly it knew what it was talking about

AP FACT CHECK: The Kavanaugh nomination and the world beyond
WASHINGTON — The world beyond a memorable Senate hearing marched on this past week. The Federal Reserve acted to make borrowing more expensive and people’s savings accounts a tad more flush. President Donald Trump relived the 2016 election, yet again, wrongly stating he won the women’s vote. He signed off on a retooled trade agreement with South Korea and misrepresented what it does.
All eyes were on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and his accuser.
In the strange mix of Senate posturing and a prosecutor’s dispassionate questioning, Kavanaugh and his Senate supporters jumped to a conclusion that was not supported by the testimony over whether he sexually assaulted Christine Blasey Ford when she was 15 and he was 17. They said, accurately, that Ford has not produced witnesses who corroborate her allegations. They also said, wrongly, that witness statements entered into the record exonerated him.
A review of the week’s rhetoric and the facts behind it on multiple fronts:
INTEREST RATES
TRUMP: “Unfortunately, they just raised interest rates a little bit, because we are doing so well. … I am not happy about it. I’d rather pay down debt or do other things, create more jobs. So I’m worried about the fact that they seem to like raising interest rates. We can do other things with the money.” — news conference Wednesday.
TRUMP: “(Obama) was playing with zero-interest money. He was playing with funny money, that’s easy. I’m playing with fairly expensive money — so when he does that the people that benefit are people that actually, in their whole life they would save 10, 15, 20 per cent of their salary — those people got killed. Because they put their money in the bank they’re going to live off the interest, and there was no interest.” — remarks Wednesday.
THE FACTS: This is an odd and contradictory assessment of the Fed and interest rates.
He decried the Fed’s rate increase, yet several minutes later criticized the near-zero rates from 2008 to 2015 as hurting people with savings accounts.
What does seem clear is that Trump misrepresented the Fed’s basic mission of keeping prices stable.
With the unemployment rate at a low 3.9 per cent, Fed officials voted unanimously on Wednesday to increase a key short term rate for the third time this year. They did so to limit the risk that inflation could accelerate to levels that would destabilize the economy and cause a downturn. The president didn’t directly acknowledge this risk.
Trump said he’d rather the Fed spur job growth or pay down the debt, though these options were not fundamental choices before the U.S. central bank.
Fed officials don’t see a rate increase as imperiling job growth. Despite previous increases, “job gains have been strong, on average,” they said in a statement. Trump has repeated similar claims at his rallies about solid job growth.
Trump also suggested that the Fed could somehow reduce the national debt. It’s not clear how it would’ve done so Wednesday. Budget deficits come from the fiscal policy set by Congress and the president. A president who wants to reduce debt could cut spending or raise taxes. Trump has done neither and the Congressional Budget Office expects government debt loads to climb.
The Fed can buy Treasury notes, which it did after the 2008 financial crisis, to reduce borrowing costs for the government, companies and consumers, and to spur growth. The risk is that higher inflation could occur given the relative health of the economy. In fact, congressional Republicans said in a 2010 letter that Fed policies would sink the economy through surging inflation. That didn’t happen, in part because the unemployment rate was then 9.8 per cent and the economy still showed signs of needing a boost.
Did the low rates hurt savers? Probably some. But that case is probably overstated.
In 2017 congressional testimony, Harvard University economist Karen Dynan, a former Treasury Department official, said savings accounts, checking accounts and similar holdings are just 5 per cent of overall household assets. More people’s net worth depends on homeownership and the stock market, both of which benefited from the lower Fed rates.
——
SEXUAL MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS
KAVANAUGH: “Dr. Ford’s allegations are not merely uncorroborated, it’s refuted by the very people she says were there.” — Senate testimony Thursday.
REPUBLICAN SEN. CHUCK GRASSLEY, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, contending the sum of statements by three witnesses “refutes Dr. Ford’s version of the facts.” — Friday.
REPUBLICAN SEN. TED CRUZ of Texas: “All three of those fact witnesses have stated on the record under penalty of perjury that they do not recall what she is alleging happening. They have not only not, not corroborated her charges, they have explicitly refuted her charges.” — hearing Thursday.
THE FACTS: The witness statements in question do not refute Ford’s allegations that Kavanaugh assaulted her at a party when they were in their teenagers. They leave open the possibility that people at the gathering forgot about it or were not in position to witness an assault.
Even Mark Judge, who Ford says was in the bedroom when Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her, has not denied that such an episode took place. His statement to the committee says “I have no memory of this alleged incident,” “do not recall the party” and “never saw Brett act in the manner Dr. Ford describes.”
In another statement, Patrick J. Smyth, identified by Ford as being among those downstairs at the party, says “I have no knowledge of the party in question; nor do I have any knowledge of the allegations of improper conduct she has levelled against Brett Kavanaugh.”‘
The lawyer for Ford’s friend Leland Ingham Keyser said in a statement: “Ms. Keyser does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, without, Dr. Ford.”
Those statements, by people who were not summoned to answer questions, are not helpful to Ford’s case. But they don’t disprove it.
Despite saying she hadn’t met Kavanaugh and doesn’t remember the party, Keyser told The Washington Post she believes Ford.
——
TRUMP: “I was accused by four or five women who got paid a lot of money to make up stories about me…There were four women, and maybe more.” — news conference Wednesday.
THE FACTS: Actually, more than a dozen women came forward during the 2016 presidential campaign, claiming they were assaulted, groped or kissed without consent by Trump. There is no evidence most were paid.
He was also caught on tape in 2005 boasting of grabbing women by their genitals and kissing them without permission.
——
TRADE
TRUMP, on signing a trade agreement with South Korea: “These outcomes give the finest American-made automobiles, innovative medicines, and agricultural crops much better access to Korean markets. I think our farmers are going to be extremely happy. It was very limited as to what they could do and what they could send. And now it’s (an) open market, and they’re going to be sending a lot more farm products.” — remarks Monday.
THE FACTS: He’s wrong in regards to the effect on U.S. farmers. The revamped free trade agreement that Trump signed Monday did nothing to further open the South Korean agricultural market, focusing instead on auto manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and other industries. “Agriculture was excluded from the talks at South Korea’s insistence,” said Troy Stangarone, senior director of congressional affairs and trade at the Korea Economic Institute of America.
The National Pork Producers Council, in fact, expressed relief that the new deal would have “little impact on agriculture.” The council noted that the original 2012 U.S.-South Korea trade agreement — the one Trump insisted on rewriting — had eliminated most South Korean tariffs on pork.
——
TRUMP: “We have also secured increased access to America’s auto industry. South Korea will double the annual number of American cars sold within. In other words, we used to sell a maximum of 25 (he meant 25,000), and we wouldn’t even get to that number, and now we’re going to 50,000. We’re doubling it, per manufacturer… So that’s a doubling of the cars per manufacturer that can enter its market, meeting U.S. safety standards.” — remarks Monday.
THE FACTS: He’s glossing over the limited impact. Analysts aren’t expecting any surge in U.S. auto exports to South Korea. The new agreement does double to 50,000 the number of cars each U.S. automaker can export annually to South Korea under U.S. safety standards that are less stringent than South Korea’s. But, as Trump said, the car makers weren’t using up the 25,000 annual quotas anyway; altogether, the United States last year exported fewer than 53,000 cars and light trucks to South Korea.
——
TRUMP, asked if he rejected a one-on-one meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the United Nations: “Yes, I did. … His tariffs are too high, he doesn’t seem to want to move and I’ve told him forget about it. … We’re very unhappy with the negotiations and the negotiating style of Canada.”
THE FACTS: The facts are in dispute. Trudeau spokeswoman Eleanore Catenaro said “no meeting was requested.”
——
JUDGES
TRUMP: “I have 145 judges I will be picking by the end of a fairly short period of time, because President Obama wasn’t big on picking judges. When I got there I said, how is this possible? I have 145, including Court of Appeals judges. And they just didn’t do it, you know why? They got tired, they got complacent — something happened.” — news conference Wednesday.
THE FACTS: Trump does have a stronger record than Obama so far in picking federal judges, but it isn’t because the Obama administration got “tired” and “complacent.” Instead, lack of action by the Republican-controlled Senate on Obama’s judicial nominees in his last two years in office left Trump more vacancies to fill.
Of the 71 people whom Obama nominated to the district courts and courts of appeals in 2015 and 2016, only 20 were voted on and confirmed, said Russell Wheeler, an expert on judicial nominees at the Brookings Institution. Trump entered office in January 2017 with more than 100 vacancies on the federal bench, about double the number Obama had in 2009.
——
2016 ELECTION
TRUMP: “You know, I got 52 per cent with women. Everyone said, ‘This couldn’t happen — 52 per cent.”‘ — news conference Wednesday.
THE FACTS: No, Trump did not win the women’s vote in the 2016 presidential election. About 54 per cent nationally voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton, according to exit polls, compared with Trump’s 41 per cent. He won 52 per cent of white women, according to those polls.

'Bama bombshell
With Daniel Strauss and Maggie Severns
ALABAMA BOMBSHELL — “Woman says Roy Moore initiated sexual encounter when she was 14, he was 32,” by the Washington Post’s Stephanie McCrummen, Beth Reinhard and Alice Crites: “Leigh Corfman says she was 14 years old when an older man approached her outside a courtroom in Etowah County, Ala. She was sitting on a wooden bench with her mother, they both recall, when the man introduced himself as Roy Moore. … Alone with Corfman, Moore chatted with her and asked for her phone number, she says. Days later, she says, he picked her up around the corner from her house in Gadsden, drove her about 30 minutes to his home in the woods, told her how pretty she was and kissed her. On a second visit, she says, he took off her shirt and pants and removed his clothes. He touched her over her bra and underpants, she says, and guided her hand to touch him over his underwear. … Aside from Corfman, three other women interviewed by The Washington Post in recent weeks say Moore pursued them when they were between the ages of 16 and 18 and he was in his early 30s, episodes they say they found flattering at the time, but troubling as they got older. None of the three women say that Moore forced them into any sort of relationship or sexual contact.” Full story.
Story Continued Below
— “Republicans might be stuck with Roy Moore,” by Daniel Strauss, Elana Schor and Kevin Robillard: “GOP leaders desperately want Roy Moore off the ballot. But they have neither the legal nor the political leverage to force the defiant ex-judge out of the race. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and a host of other Republican senators called on Moore to drop out of the race Thursday if there were truth to the accounts of four women who told The Washington Post that Moore pursued relationships with them while they were teens and he was in his 30s. The news sent Republican operatives scrambling to parse the dusty sections of Alabama state law that deal with replacing candidates on the ballot. … ‘Judge Roy Moore has endured the most outlandish attacks on any candidate in the modern political arena, but this story in today’s Washington Post alleging sexual impropriety takes the cake,’ Moore campaign chairman Bill Armistead said in a statement. ‘National liberal organizations know their chosen candidate Doug Jones is in a death spiral, and this is their last ditch Hail Mary.’ Though Republicans have begun looking into options to replace Moore, Alabama law requires the candidate roster on the ballot to be set 74 days before an election. If Moore does withdraw, however, any votes cast for him would not count. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and other Republicans have suggested that GOP Sen. Luther Strange, the appointed senator who lost to Moore in the special primary, could put himself forward as a write-in candidate.” Full story.
— What Luther Strange told the Associated Press when asked if he would reenter the race: “Well, that’s getting the cart ahead of the horse. But I will have something to say about that. Let me do some more research.”
— What White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told the press pool: “Like most Americans the president believes we cannot allow a mere allegation, in this case one from many years ago, to destroy a person’s life. However, the president also believes that if these allegations are true, Judge Moore will do the right thing and step aside.”
— What Democrats are thinking: Neither the DSCC nor Jones’ campaign rushed to put out a statement, and Jones’ eventual statement was brief: “Roy Moore needs to answer these serious charges.” If Strange or another Republican mounts a write-in campaign, it gives Jones a better chance of winning with a vote total in the 40 percent range. But don’t expect any rash excitement about their chances in such a deep-red state.
— What McConnell world is thinking: If we let Steve Bannon control our primaries, we’re going to keep ending up with scandal-ridden candidates. Even if Moore survives this, candidates in more competitive states won’t.
— What Bannon world is thinking: A few weeks ago, McConnell’s people were saying Bannon had nothing to do with Moore’s win. Moore is strongly denying the accusations, and like President Donald Trump, will probably survive this.
— “Moore fundraises off of report alleging relationships with teenagers,” by Campaign Pro’s Daniel Strauss: “A defiant Moore, who faced calls from fellow Republicans to end his Senate campaign Thursday, cast the story as a political conspiracy against him and called the story ‘lies,’ asking ‘God-fearing conservatives’ to help him carry on. ‘The Obama-Clinton Machine’s liberal media lapdogs just launched the most vicious and nasty round of attacks against me I’ve EVER faced,’ Moore wrote in the fundraising email. ‘I won’t to get into the details of their filthy and sleazy attacks.’” Full story.
— Democratic senators launch money blitz for Jones: Some of the best online fundraisers among Senate Democrats sent out fundraising e-mails for Doug Jones last night, including Connecticut’s Chris Murphy, California’s Kamala Harris, New York’s Kirsten Gillibrand and Massachusetts’ Elizabeth Warren. Gillibrand’s e-mail was the only one to directly reference the allegations in the Washington Post story. “If you’ve followed the Senate special election in Alabama at all, you know Roy Moore is unfit for office – and recent allegations that he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl are utterly disgusting,” Gillibrand writes.
— The pols with ties to Moore: Moore had garnered increasing support from Washington Republicans in recent months. Dozens of Republicans including six GOP senators — Steve Daines, Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, Rand Paul, Mike Lee and Cory Gardner — endorsed Moore prior to Thursday’s bombshell story. Paul and Lee recently hosted a fundraiser for Moore, and he formed a joint fundraising committee with the NRSC and the RNC. Moore has received campaign donations from Rep. Andy Harris ($2,000), Rep. Jeff Duncan ($1,000) and Rep. Thomas Massie ($1,000) — as well as former Rep. Todd Akin ($2,700), who still has a leadership PAC.
HOW VIRGINIA HAPPENED — “How Gillespie’s MS-13 play backfired in Virginia,” by Campaign Pro’s Kevin Robillard: “The ads from Republican Ed Gillespie’s campaign would define and drive conversation about the Virginia governor’s race — and not in the way Gillespie wanted. The race ended in a resounding win for [Democrat Ralph] Northam on Tuesday night, driven by high turnout from the so-called Obama coalition of white college-educated voters, minorities and young people. The ads would betray Gillespie’s repeated warnings about the GOP’s need to reach out to Hispanic voters. And, according to Democrats, they would create a backlash that helped drown him. ‘Gillespie’s MS-13 ads, his race-baiting with the statues, his very strong anti-immigrant rhetoric completely backfired,’ said Matt Barreto, the managing partner of Democratic polling firm Latino Decisions. ‘Voters recognized that Gillespie heavily racialized this campaign.’ All the while, Northam’s campaign would rely on the lieutenant governor’s authenticity to rebut the attacks. National Democrats fretted about the energy backing Northam’s campaign, and commentators slammed his television ads as boring. But the campaign stuck to its message, seeing little movement in the polls. They planned for a worst-case scenario of low Democratic turnout, but ultimately knocked on more doors than Hillary Clinton’s campaign in the state had a year earlier and won by an unexpected 9-point margin. ‘Reporters wanted us to say something new, but we didn’t because we knew what voters needed to hear about Northam,’ Brad Komar, Northam’s campaign manager, said in an interview. ‘I think folks interpreted discipline as boring. Discipline is effective.’” Full story.
— “One big takeaway from Virginia? Authenticity is essential,” by Jesse Ferguson in The Hill: “If there’s one thing Virginia voters learned about Ralph Northam before they propelled him to a decisive victory Tuesday night, it’s who he is. Northam isn’t flashy. He’s a doctor and a veteran; a public servant focused on taking care of kids. They knew who he was.” Full story.

THE MONEY CHASE — “Perry to headline Texas event for pro-Trump outside group,” by Campaign Pro’s Maggie Severns: “Energy Secretary Rick Perry will attend an event in Texas next week put on by America First Policies, the pro-Trump political nonprofit, according to an invitation obtained by POLITICO. The invitation, which was sent to a Republican donor, says that Perry will headline a ‘roundtable discussion’ in Houston on Monday afternoon. Details of the event’s location will only available to those who RSVP shortly before the event, the invitation said. Perry’s trip to Texas comes at an auspicious moment for America First Policies and its affiliated super PAC, America First Action. The organization is working to lock in support from donors and establish itself as a center of gravity for pro-Trump activity with close ties to the Trump administration. … Perry has deep ties to both the energy industry and donors in Texas, which helped power his two presidential runs. But Perry will not be in Houston asking for funds, said Texas businessman Roy Bailey, who is deeply involved in America First Policies. ‘It’s a nice opportunity for people to understand what’s going on at the Energy Department,’ Bailey said.” Full story.
— Stewart fundraiser promises jacuzzi: An invitation to a “MAGA-evening fundraiser” for Virginia Senate candidate Corey Stewart’s campaign next week promises “hors d’oeuvres, 3-hour open bar and DJ” and notes: “This will be a business casual event with a casual atmosphere. There is an outdoor Jacuzzi. We recommend attendees bring swimsuits.” Tickets are $100 a head. View the invite.
THE DAILY MENENDEZ — “Dismissed Menendez juror: ‘I don’t think he did anything wrong,’” by Matt Friedman in Newark: “A juror who was excused Thursday afternoon from U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez’s federal corruption trial said that if she had stayed on, she would have found Menendez ‘not guilty on every charge.’ Evelyn Arroyo-Maultsby also said other jurors’ feelings about the case are mixed and she believes the result may be a hung jury. Arroyo-Maultsby made the comments to a few reporters outside the federal courthouse in Newark, moments after leaving the trial to begin a previously-scheduled vacation in the Bahamas.” Full story.
THE ‘I’ WORD — “Steyer to drop another $10M on Trump impeachment ads,” by POLITICO’s Gabriel DeBenedetti: “Democratic billionaire Tom Steyer said Thursday that he’s adding $10 million to his national television ad campaign calling for President Donald Trump’s impeachment. Speaking on a conference call outlining the public support for his effort, Steyer also said he would fund two new ads in addition to the one that’s been backed by an existing $10 million buy. More than 1.9 million Americans have now signed his weeks-old petition to impeach Trump, Steyer said on the call.” Full story.
— “Democratic congressional candidate from Miami calls for impeaching Trump,” by the Miami Herald’s Patricia Mazzei: “Miami congressional candidate Mary Barzee Flores called for President Donald Trump’s impeachment Wednesday. … Barzee Flores cited at least six reasons for Congress to impeach the president, including firing former FBI Director James Comey and hiring Michael Flynn — who has since been fired — as national security adviser despite having ties to Russia.” Full story.
GAFFE CITY — “Dem candidate: It ‘shouldn’t take brain cancer’ for John McCain to show courage,” by the Washington Examiner’s Al Weaver: “‘I’ve been tweeting on occasion about saluting Bob Corker and John McCain and Jeff Flake – men who have shown a little bit of courage speaking truth to their own party,’ said Dean Phillips, who is running for a House seat in Minnesota. ‘But it shouldn’t take brain cancer and the retirement from the Senate to do so.’ Phillips is running against Rep. Erik Paulsen, R-Minn., in the state’s 3rd Congressional District. … Phillips later apologized to McCain.” Full story.
RETIREMENT WATCH — “Goodlatte to retire after 2018,” by Campaign Pro’s Elena Schneider: “Rep. Bob Goodlatte, the term-limited chairman of the powerful House Judiciary Committee, said on Thursday that he will not seek reelection in 2018. … In the last week, three Texas congressman — Jeb Hensarling, Ted Poe and Lamar Smith — also left safely conservative seats behind. Hensarling and Smith were also term-limited as committee chairmen. As recently as July, Goodlatte’s staff sought to squash rumors that the 65-year-old congressman planned to retire. Goodlatte’s decision opens a Republican-leaning seat, nestled in the Shenandoah Valley, which backed President Donald Trump by a 24-point margin.” Full story.
PRIMARY CONCERNS — “Gabby Giffords’ anti-gun violence group backs Abrams in Georgia governor race,” by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Greg Bluestein: “Both Abrams and her Democratic opponent, former state Rep. Stacey Evans, have called for stiff new gun restrictions, marking something of a sea change for Democratic candidates for governor in Georgia. … But one vote might have helped Abrams secure the backing of Courage to Fight Gun Violence, the Giffords group once known as Americans for Responsible Solutions. A measure passed to little fanfare in 2012 prohibited the destruction of firearms by local law enforcement during criminal investigations, and required cities and counties to auction off the guns they collected within six months. Abrams voted against Senate Bill 350, Evans backed it.” Full story.
2018 WATCH — “Democrat Pappas announces candidacy for 1st District US House seat,” by WMUR’s John DiStaso and Adam Sexton: “Stressing the importance of constituent service and a commitment to helping to break the gridlock in Washington, Chris Pappas of Manchester announced his candidacy for the open 1st District U.S. House seat Thursday morning. Speaking exclusively to WMUR at the Puritan Backroom, a popular restaurant that has been under the ownership of his family for 100 years, the three-term Democratic executive councilor said that he arrived at the final decision after speaking with Granite Staters throughout the district.” Full story.

5 September 2017, The Rise of Totalitarianism
I was going to put this in chronological order, but decided to put my response to it all up front.  The readers, if there are any, can decide for themselves to read what prompted my response on The Rise of Totalitarianism.
“Dear [name deleted],
“We share your love of the environment and in our own way we do our part.  However, we see an even greater near term threat, and that is the rise of totalitarianism from the left.  Absolute insanity is gaining traction; for example, some California legislators want to make it a criminal offense, with jail time, for using the “wrong" gender pronoun.  The violence and hatred coming from the left, the “mainstream” left, is, in our opinion an immediate threat — much more immediate than the environment.
“Not to mention that apologist, spineless Obama who did all he could to encourage rogue nations like Iran and North Korea, the latter of which now has a hydrogen bomb and has no reservations about selling nukes to the highest bidder.  The threat of an EMP device launched from North Korea and detonated over the USA is something Obama should have “fixed” during his 8 years of playing golf.  There are very few options left; diplomacy has proven not to work with N Korea and a military option may be all that is left.  An EMP device that succeeds in taking out the electronics in everything from the electrical grid to your cell phone will result in about 90% of the population of this country dying, and probably billions globally after the USA becomes a 4th world country.
“Even without the threat of 300 million deaths in the USA alone, the totalitarianism that is inherent in the attitudes and actions of the progressives, liberals, or whatever you want to call them, is an absolute evil, just as bad in its own way as Hitler was.
“When freedom and democracy are once again secure in this country, which today they are not, then we will have time to do more for the environment.  In the meantime, we are ready to defend freedom, democracy and the Constitution against the totalitarianism of the left.
. . .
“I must say that I cannot understand your passion or your single minded focus when the 'father' of 'climate change' (Al Gore) is demonstrably one of the biggest hypocrites alive today, with an electric consumption perhaps a hundred times greater than the average American family.  What an absolute jerk he is.  Maybe 10% of your time should be spent exposing him, and only devote 90% to exposing Exxon.
“Frankly, we think the country may be irreparably damaged (reached its political tipping point) and its survival as a nation is in question.  It is even possible there will be civil war, and if that happens it will be a much worse blood bath than the first civil war.  So you can go “nail” Exxon if that’s the most productive way you can think of to spend your time.  We plan to do what we can, while battling my cancer and my wife’s depression, to preserve freedom and democracy so that when you’ve solved the climate problem this will be a free country where people can live in relative peace and harmony, and Christian bakers won’t be driven out of business by the totalitarian left.
“When you have personal news you want to share, please write, email, or phone.  When you have anything else to share, please share with someone else.
Still a friend”.
==================================
This is what led up to my essay.
My wife forwarded this to a friend who is particularly concerned about climate change, or global warming if you prefer.  He reacted from his single issue perspective which colors everything he does.  But first the item my wife forwarded.  I wish I knew the author, as I’d like to shake his or her hand.  It was written in response to events of the recent horrific flooding in Houston.
----------------------------------------
AUTHOR UNKNOWN (to me):
“We are still a great people. The rescuers remind us of that. But we lack the culture or the politics to reflect that greatness. The noble impulses that lead men to risk their lives in flooding are there. But our society no longer has the vessels to hold and sustain those impulses. The media doesn't quite know what to make of the rescuers. You can see the itching to return to the stories that it knows and likes. Russia. Trump hit pieces. People punching each other in the street over politics. It swerves at the first sight of a Confederate flag on a rescue boat or Ted Cruz's Sandy vote. It doesn't want to dwell on the best of us. Behavior like that doesn't make sense anymore. Generations have grown up with leftist protesters as their definition of heroes. Look in a history book and the last 70 years consisted of "heroes" who marched around waving signs until they got everything they wanted. And everyday in the news there are more "heroes" marching for illegal aliens, transgender bathrooms, the supremacy of black lives and any other identity politics cause. But waving a placard to the adulation of the media isn't heroism. Saving lives is. Our culture has quickly forgotten that less than two decades ago, men carrying half their weight climbed to the top of the World Trade Center to save lives. They died there. The America of a hundred or even fifty years ago, would have immortalized them. Ours drowned them out in tantrums, in whines, in anger and outrage, in malicious noise. They were a dangerous reminder that we were a great people. And our destroyers desperately wanted us to forget. They wanted us to sink to the bottom. Not to rise to the moment. The secret of so much of our greatness was simply that we tried. We took our best and we made it the cultural norm. Every people tell themselves that they are wonderful and destined to rule the world. The Germans and the Russians believed it and it led them to ruin. But we told each other that we were decent and we became decent. We told our children that the moon could be theirs. And it was. We told them that we could cure diseases. And we did. That we would prevail over the atom bomb. And we did. That we would change the world. And we did. But more importantly, we told them about sportsmanship. We told them to stand up for principles. To take pride in hard work. To believe in the future. To tell the truth. To help old ladies across the street. To tie knots well. To sacrifice for family. To see themselves as heroes, however unlikely. We made all of those things into a culture. That was the secret. Anyone could have done it. You just had to believe. And that culture has been slowly dying. Some days it looks almost dead. Our culture and politics exist to give us permission to lie in the mud. That has become their unhidden purpose. Decency is a dead language. Shock value is our entertainment. Contempt and outrage are our national discourse. The Chinese build cities and islands. We yell at each other over the Internet. It's hard to remember a time when writing the Great American Novel was an ambition. The American novel is dead. Literature, like art, has become segmented into high brow garbage and low brow garbage. The aspirational middle brow culture is dead. The movie theater is filled with billion dollar adaptations of comic books, Disney rides and cartoons. The handful of teens who can be pried away from their phones long enough to watch something they'll forget five minutes later aren't even the target audience. America is a stopover territory on the way to the real markets in the teeming cities of China. How does a culture like that deal with heroism? It can't. It doesn't have the vocabulary for it.”

WARNING: This story contains graphic language.
Donald Trump apologized early Saturday for lewd and sexually aggressive remarks he made a decade ago -- and then made it clear he is girding himself for a nasty political battle.
The GOP presidential nominee posted a defiant 90-second video just after midnight on social media, telling voters that he is not a "perfect person" and that the words captured by a hot mic in 2005 "don't reflect who I am."
"I said it, I was wrong and I apologize," Trump said of footage from a previously unaired taping of "Access Hollywood" that surfaced Friday, in which Trump said he tried to "fuck" a married woman and bragged about being able to grope women because of his "star" status.
But Trump quickly pivoted back onto the attack, raising Bill Clinton's sex scandals and Hillary Clinton's role in discrediting women who had affairs with her husband.
"I've said some foolish things, but there's a big difference between the words and actions of other people. Bill Clinton has actually abused women and Hillary has bullied, attacked, shamed and intimidated his victims."
And in closing, Trump added ominously: "We will discuss this more in the coming days. See you at the debate on Sunday."
While Trump refuted the lewd terms in which he discussed women in the 2005 tape, the Republican nominee did not apologize for or address the behavior he said in that conversation that he engaged in toward women, including that he could "grab them by the pussy" and that he would sometimes "just start kissing them."
He later tweeted Saturday morning: "Certainly has been an interesting 24 hours!"
Trump's foreshadowing that he will raise Bill Clinton's affairs and sex abuse allegations from the 1990s "in the coming days" suggest that the Republican nominee is switching gears after suggesting as recently as Thursday night that he would not raise those scandals in the debate on Sunday.
"I think we're all better off if we can do that," Trump said at a town hall event in New Hampshire on Thursday night.
But the bombshell 2005 recording has now put Trump on his heels -- with Republicans warning of his demise -- and the brash billionaire appears prepared to do what he does best: punch back.
Shocking remarks
Trump is heard discussing women in vulgar terms during off-camera banter during the taping of a segment for "Access Hollywood," footage which was obtained by The Washington Post.
During the lewd conversation captured by a microphone Trump was wearing on his lapel, Trump recounts how he tried to "fuck" an unidentified married woman before bragging that he is "automatically attracted to beautiful (women)" and just starts "kissing them."
"Access Hollywood" later identified the unidentified woman as Nancy O'Dell, who used to work for the show. CNN has attempted to contact O'Dell's manager but has not heard back.
In the video, Trump uses the name "Nancy."
The conversation came months after Trump married his third and current wife, Melania.
The 'p-word' problem: Trump's comments pose issue for news outlets
He also said: "When you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything ... Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything."
The jaw-dropping description of uninhibited sexual assault as a benefit of his celebrity poses a substantial setback to Trump's attempts to overcome his deficit with female voters with just a month until Election Day. Clinton and her campaign have repeatedly sought to portray Trump as disrespectful and demeaning toward women, bringing up a slew of rude and vulgar comments Trump has made about women during and before his run for president.
House Speaker Paul Ryan, saying he was "sickened" by Trump's comments, announced Friday night that the GOP presidential nominee would no longer attend a Republican event in Wisconsin at which the two were slated to appear on Saturday. Multiple sources told CNN that Trump was asked not to come by Ryan, and one source said the message was delivered via intermediaries.

Trump campaign advisers were huddling together in Trump Tower Friday night trying to figure out how to react. Among the options being considered was whether Trump should make a public appearance Friday night.
Stakes raised for debate
The comments immediately raised the stakes for Sunday's highly anticipated debate between Trump and Clinton, and the remarks could hand her -- and viewers in the town hall audience -- more evidence to make that point.
Trump's lewd comments about women from 2005
And the remarks prompted Trump -- for the first time in his nearly 16-month campaign -- to apologize.
"This was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago. Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course - not even close. I apologize if anyone was offended," Trump said in a statement released Friday.
Clinton's campaign tweeted a link to the story and said simply, "This is horrific. We cannot allow this man to become president."
Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine, campaigning in Las Vegas, said Trump's comments "makes me sick to my stomach."
"I don't like to say the words that he's used in the past when he calls women, 'pigs, dogs and slobs' ... but this is behavior that's just outrageous and so that there would be a news story that would have more statements like this of this kind, I mean, gosh, I'm sad to say that I'm not surprised," Kaine said. "I should be surprised and shocked. I'm sad to say that I'm not."
A Clinton campaign source told CNN the campaign strategy in the wake of the tape will be to press Republicans to say if they still think Trump should be president.
Member of 'Central Park 5' blasts Trump
"Not just condemn what he said -- but that he should be POTUS," the source said.
Two people close to the campaign told CNN the former secretary of state was unlikely to speak about the controversy Friday night. But it has become a new subject of her debate prep, and the campaign will pressure Ryan and other Republicans to disavow Trump throughout the weekend.
'You can do anything'
The hot mic conversation captured in 2005 begins with Trump recounting to "Access Hollywood" host Billy Bush how he tried to have sex with a married woman.
"I moved on her and I failed. I'll admit it," Trump says in the newly-released audio. "I did try and fuck her. She was married."
"I moved on her like a bitch, but I couldn't get there. And she was married," Trump adds, after saying he took the woman -- who is identified only by her first name -- out furniture shopping.
WikiLeaks posts emails hacked from Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta
"Then all of a sudden I see her, she's now got the big phony tits and everything. She's totally changed her look," Trump says of the woman.
The conversation took place as Trump arrived in a tour bus on the set of "Days of Our Lives," the soap opera where he was set to make a cameo appearance.

The staffer, who is also paying close attention to Senate efforts, also added, unsolicited: "Just think of the down-ballot effect. Brutal."
A GOP operative in Ohio voiced similar sentiments.
"This is bad. I think this thing is over," the staffer said.
Reached for comment, a top battleground state staffer told CNN he was "picking (his) chin off the floor."
Democrats seek to punish GOP Senate candidates over Trump audio
"We want every suburban woman's vote in America. This doesn't help with that," the staffer said.
And a Trump campaign source said they were "dumbfounded," saying the remarks "could be a death knell."
The source had no predictions on how the article will impact the race, saying the next two days will be critical.
"I think the next 48 hours will be the most consequential of the entire election. Right here, right now, this is game time," the source said.
One senior Trump adviser said simply, "Ugh."
A stunning apology
The seriousness of Trump's remarks could be gauged by his apology, the first time he has offered such a concession as a presidential candidate. He has offered "regret" on several occasions, notably in August when he acknowledged he sometimes says "the wrong thing" and in April when he said retweeting an unflattering picture of Ted Cruz's wife, Heidi Cruz, was "a mistake."
Previously, Trump has said that he would only apologize for something if he was "wrong."
"I fully think apologizing is a great thing. But you have to be wrong," Trump said in a September 2015 appearance on "The Tonight Show."
And in a March CNN town hall, Trump could not recount the last time he had apologized for something but said that "if you're not wrong, I don't believe in apologizing."
Pressed again on specific times when he's apologized for anything in his life.
"Yes, I mean -- apologized -- I apologized to my mother years ago for using foul language," Trump said. "I apologize to my wife for not being presidential on occasion."
Trump and women
Trump has repeatedly bragged that "nobody respects women more" than him and has vowed to "cherish" and "protect" women as president.
But the newly unearthed recording is just the latest revelation that shows the crude and at-times sexist terms Trump has used to describe women.
During his run for president, Trump suggested that his GOP primary opponent Carly Fiorina, a former Fortune 500 CEO, was too ugly to be elected president, shouting "look at that face! Would anyone vote for that?" during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. And Trump also suggested that Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly asked him tough questions during the first GOP debate because she was on her period, saying there was "blood coming out of her wherever."
Trump most recently stoked controversy after he defended his belief that former Miss Universe Alicia Machado had "gained a massive amount of weight and it was a real problem." He was also accused of calling her "Miss Piggy" back in the 1990s.
In his numerous appearances on "The Howard Stern Show," Trump also frequently engaged the show's host in lewd and objectifying conversations about women, including discussing his sexual encounters.
Head of Trump's religious advisory board dismisses vulgar remarks
Trump on the show frequently ranked women on a scale of 1 to 10 and discussed everything from oral sex to anal sex to whether he could get an erection for certain famous women.
"A person who is flat-chested is very hard to be a 10," Trump said in one segment with Stern.
Discussing a famous actress's recent breast augmentation, Trump said: "The boob job is terrible, you know they look like two light posts coming out of a body."
Trump most recently defended some of the crude comments he has made about women by telling local Las Vegas news station KSNV that "a lot of that was done for the purposes of entertainment."
"There's nobody that has more respect for women than I do," Trump said.

Republicans Shell-Shocked by Health Defeat Split on Next Step

Republicans in Congress have been unable to agree on a way to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act — and now they’re divided on whether they should give up on their GOP-only approach.
Sen. John McCain urged fellow senators Friday to “start fresh” and seek a bipartisan plan, hours after he provided the decisive vote against his chamber’s latest Affordable Care Act change proposal. “We can do this,” the Arizona Republican said in a statement.
(Related: 5 NewCare Systems That Could Make You More Popular)
Other Republicans insist they got too close to a GOP-only agreement on demolishing the health law to turn back from that idea. The Senate fell one vote short of advancing a partial repeal of some parts of the Affordable Care Act early Friday, with opposition from McCain and two other Republicans. In May, the House passed its replacement plan on a razor-thin 217-213 vote.
House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows said he has no intention of working with Democrats. “In the end, we will prevail,” the North Carolina Republican told reporters Friday. “I fully expect we’ll have something on the president’s desk in September.”
Senate Republican hardliner Ted Cruz of Texas also dismissed the idea of bipartisanship out of hand.
“It’s a hit in the gut; now we’re reacting, what do we do,” Rep. Dave Brat, a Virginia Republican, told reporters.
Allowing Failure
President Donald Trump’s impulse has been do nothing, let the current system die and wait for Democrats to come to him to seek new legislation.
“They should have approved health care last night but, boy oh boy, the swamp,” Trump said in a speech Friday in Ronkonkoma, New York. “I said from the beginning let Obamacare implode.”
There have been repeated hints that the president could stop making the health-care law’s cost-sharing payments for low-income people, which insurers and analysts have warned would cause a spike in premiums and perhaps even a pullout from more markets.
But that’s a risky strategy, with Republicans in charge of all of Washington and the president already facing historically low poll ratings heading into a midterm election year.
White House budget director Mick Mulvaney expressed disappointment in an interview with Bloomberg TV.
“We had hoped to clear the decks of health care last night so we could move our full attention to tax reform,” Mulvaney said. With the Senate scheduled to remain in session for two more weeks before taking an August recess, he added: “All I know is we still expect them to do something before they leave town.”
McCain’s Return
Earlier this week McCain made a dramatic return to the Senate following brain-cancer treatment to cast the 50th vote to start debate on the bill. But he gave the decisive thumbs-down during Friday’s vote on a bare-bones Affordable Care Act change bill designed to jump-start bicameral talks on a final bill. The final tally was 49-51, with Republicans Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska also voting no.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (Photo: Schumer)
The collapse was a blow to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who has previously said if Republicans failed they would need to cut a deal with Democrats to stabilize the markets. After the dramatic failure of his bill, the flush-faced leader declared he wasn’t interested in a “bailout” of insurance companies but wanted to hear what other ideas Democrats have.
In the Senate, half a dozen Republican and Democratic senators have discussed alternatives to the embattled GOP health-care bill. They mostly center on creating a reinsurance fund and authorizing cost-sharing payments for insurers on the Affordable Care Act public health insurance exchanges so they don’t have to raise prices for covering a sicker pool of customers. Another Democratic idea would take a bite out of drug company payments and plow the savings into the system.
‘Trade Ideas’
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York told reporters Friday he’s optimistic that members of both parties can work together to stabilize insurance markets and then “sit down and trade ideas” for the long run.
“Change it, improve it, but don’t just take a knife and try to destroy it and put nothing in its place,” Schumer said.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, met with Trump Friday to talk about his Affordable Care Act replacement proposal with GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, according to a Republican aide. The plan, which was never embraced by McConnell or Democrats, would redirect much of the federal funding for health insurance as block grants to states to use for health-care spending.
Senate Health Chairman Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, who voted against a broad repeal-and-delay bill this week, is focused on ensuring that people have at least some option for buying insurance. He has said his committee will hold hearings to explore options.
Sen. Bill Nelson, a Florida Democrat, said in a statement that he and Collins met this week with a small bipartisan group of senators to start discussing solutions.
Collins said in a statement that lawmakers “need to approach reforms in a very careful way.”
“That means going through the regular process of committee hearings; receiving input from expert witnesses such as actuaries, governors, advocacy groups, and health care providers; and vetting proposals with our colleagues on both sides of the aisle,” she said.
Rep. Mike Simpson of Idaho said he agrees with McCain that the next step should be a bipartisan approach. He said Republicans will be asking Democrats, “Can we do some of the things you want to do also and repeal some of the bad parts of it?”
Sen. Tom Carper, a Delaware Democrat and former governor, has said he’s speaking with senators in both parties and governors of a number of states about a possible bipartisan plan.
“We need to do a fair amount more than shoring up the exchanges,” Carper said.
Carper wants more generous subsidies for poorer people buying insurance in the exchanges. States should be allowed to experiment with ideas that might even include a single-payer approach, he said.
Republican Meeting
For Republicans, there is risk of inaction after seven years of vowing to overturn the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obama’s signature accomplishment.
House Republicans focused their ire on their Senate GOP counterparts. They entered a closed door meeting Friday with the song, “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” blaring over a speaker. The song by singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot was about the sinking of the bulk carrier on Lake Superior in 1975.
Multiple members said they believed House Republican leaders intentionally chose the song because Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin remarked that the ship had been close to shore when it went down — “just 15 miles or so,” said Republican Deputy Whip Dennis Ross of Florida.
“That was the point — the ship was that close, and so were we,” said Ross.

McCain's return sets stage for big Senate health bill vote
By ALAN FRAM, Associated Press
WASHINGTON (BNG)(AP) — President Donald Trump urged Republicans to "step up to the plate" for Tuesday's crucial Senate vote on their bill eviscerating much of the Obama health care law. The stage was set for high drama, with Sen. John McCain returning to the Capitol to cast his first vote since being diagnosed with brain cancer.
No stranger to heroic episodes, the Navy pilot who persevered through five years of captivity during the Vietnam War announced through his office that he would be back in Washington for the critical roll call on beginning debate on the legislation. The 80-year-old has been at home in Arizona since he revealed last week that he's undergoing treatment for brain cancer, but a statement said he "looks forward" to returning for work on health care and other legislation.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., scheduled the initial vote on beginning debate for Tuesday, though it remained unclear exactly which version of the legislation would be in play. The Republican leadership expects McCain to support taking up the measure, and his mere presence could make it harder for wavering Republicans to cast a vote against even considering the bill.
In one sign of progress, conservative Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said he would support commencing debate. He said McConnell told him the Senate would debate Paul's proposal to scuttle much of Obama's law and give Congress two years to enact a replacement — an amendment that seemed certain to lose.
Democrats uniformly oppose the effort to tear down President Barack Obama's signature legislative achievement. Republicans control the chamber 52-48, meaning they can afford to lose just two Republicans with McCain around and only one in his absence. Vice President Mike Pence would cast a tie-breaking vote.
Trump kept up the pressure on GOP lawmakers, tweeting that "After 7 years of talking, we will soon see whether or not Republicans are willing to step up to the plate!" He added: "ObamaCare is torturing the American People. The Democrats have fooled the people long enough. Repeal or Repeal & Replace! I have pen in hand."
McConnell's bill would abolish much of Obama's law, eliminating its tax penalties on people not buying policies, cutting Medicaid, eliminating its tax boosts on medical companies and providing less generous health care subsidies for consumers. But at least a dozen GOP senators have openly said they oppose or criticized the measure, which McConnell has revised as he's hunted Republican support.
While it had long seemed headed toward defeat, Republicans have begun showing glimmers of optimism. Senators and aides said talks were continuing that might win over enough Republicans to commence debate.
Besides allowing an early vote on Paul's repeal plan, moderates were seeking additional money for states that would be hurt by cuts in Medicaid, the health insurance program for the poor, the disabled and nursing home patients. Conservatives wanted a vote on a proposal by Ted Cruz, R-Texas, letting insurers offer bare-bones policies with low premiums, which would be illegal under Obama's law.
With leaders still struggling to line up enough votes to approve a wide-ranging overhaul of Obama's law, there was talk of trying to pass a narrow bill — details still unclear — so House-Senate bargainers could craft a compromise. That, too, was encountering problems.
"This idea that we're going to vote on something just to get in conference and then figure it out later is nuts," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told reporters.
Should Tuesday's vote fail, it would be an unalloyed embarrassment for a party that finally gained control of the White House, Senate and House in January but still fell flat on its promise to uproot Obamacare. Republicans could try returning to the bill later this year if they somehow round up more support.
Should the initial motion win, that would prompt 20 hours of debate and countless amendments in a battle likely to last all week. And even then, the measure's ultimate fate still seemed iffy because of GOP divisions.
Obama's law was enacted in 2010 over unanimous Republican opposition. Since then, its expansion of Medicaid and creation of federal insurance marketplaces has produced 20 million fewer uninsured people. It's also provided protections that require insurers to provide robust coverage to all, cap consumers' annual and lifetime expenditures and ensure that people with serious medical conditions pay the same premiums as the healthy.
The law has been unpopular with GOP voters and the party has launched numerous attempts to dismantle the statute. All until this year were mere aspirations because Obama vetoed every major one that reached him.
Ever since 2010, Republicans have been largely united on scuttling the statute but divided over how to replace it.
Those divides sharpened with Trump willing to sign legislation and estimates by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office that several GOP bills would cause more than 20 million people to become uninsured by 2026. Polls showing growing popularity for Obama's law and abysmal approval ratings for the GOP effort haven't helped.
The House approved its health care bill in May after several setbacks. With the House planning to begin summer recess this weekend, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said the chamber would return to "finish the job" by considering whatever the Senate might approve.
Moderate Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, has remained opposed to beginning debate on any option McConnell has revealed so far.

How Trump and Ryan are working with GOP moderates on health care
Washington (CNN)Florida Republican Rep. Brian Mast left Washington last week undecided about the GOP health care bill to repeal and replace much of Obamacare.
Fortunately, he had a ride home to the Sunshine State: Air Force One.
Mast got to discuss his concerns about how the bill would impact the large senior population in his district directly with President Donald Trump and White House chief of staff Reince Priebus on the flight down to West Palm Beach.
"It's definitely moving in the right direction," Mast told CNN on Monday, adding he is now a "lean 'yes'" on the bill.
"They are asking us: What do you think? What does it take to get you to 'yes'?" Mast said.
Mast is one of several Republican lawmakers that Trump, House Speaker Paul Ryan and other GOP leaders are targeting as they try to secure the 216 votes they need to pass their health care bill Thursday.
Trump is making calls to individual members, according to GOP aides, and will personally address the full House GOP conference on Tuesday morning. House Republican leadership aides make clear that it will be up to Trump to close the deal with the most conservative members of the conference.
While conservatives from the House Freedom Caucus are the ones on cable TV loudly and repeatedly slamming the bill, Trump and Ryan are looking elsewhere.
Already, instead of the kind of wholesale rewrites that the hard-right wants, Ryan, White House officials and Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price have concentrated on trading more targeted changes proposed by members for their support, according to multiple House GOP leadership sources.
Centrist Republicans have been in frequent contact with leaders and the whip operation and are quietly exerting their own influence.
Late Monday, Ryan unveiled his final changes to the measure. They would make additional changes to Medicaid that were pushed by conservative members, such as giving states the option of requiring able-bodied Medicaid recipients to work. Another change would allow states to opt to receive federal Medicaid funding as a block grant.
But many on the right lobbied hard to speed up the date when the Medicaid expansion to the states would be halted. That was too far for House and Senate moderates, along with some of the governors administering the program, and the idea was set aside.
Ryan and company still have work left to do.
"I am still a 'no' on the bill," Florida Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen told CNN, saying that a high number of her constituents across all age groups who rely on subsidies in the current law will see less support under the GOP bill. She added that she's no fan of Obamacare and the impact it's had on her district, but, "this Republican plan makes the wound that much deeper and harder to heal."
New Jersey Rep. Leonard Lance told CNN that "I'm a lean 'no.'" When pressed if any of the new changes could get him to back the bill he replied, "I doubt it."
Members of the moderate "Tuesday group" are expected to head to the White House on Tuesday. GOP Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, who represents a district outside Philadelphia, posted on his Facebook page that he couldn't vote for the bill.
"I have many concerns with this bill, and first among them is the impact on the single most important issue plaguing Bucks and Montgomery Counties, and the issue that I have made my priority in Congress: opioid abuse prevention, treatment and recovery," Fitzpatrick wrote.
In an effort directly targeting centrist Republicans from upstate New York, leaders added a provision designed to transfer more Medicaid dollars from the county level to the state level. New York Rep. Chris Collins told CNN the change would help bring along other members of his state's delegation who are currently wavering on the bill. The change would apply to New York State only, a GOP aide said.
It's not just moderates who are still wavering. Rank-and-file members still have concerns that the reconciliation package will make health care insurance more expensive for those over 50. Once the Congressional Budget Office report made it clear this group's premiums could increase, the message to leaders was clear: That needed to be fixed before the House vote.
Ryan signaled on a Sunday talk show that they heard those concerns, saying "we agree, we believe we should have even more assistance. And that's one of the things we're looking at for that person in the 50s and 60s because they experience higher health care costs."
On Monday several House Republicans told CNN that amendments crafted by GOP leaders would pave the way for the Senate to craft more generous tax credit for those aged from 50-64.
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy told CNN "we've listened to all the different concerns."
McCarthy explained that the House bill will include a provision allotting resources so that the tax credits can be more generous for those aged 50-64, but noted "the Senate will write the policy" because of procedural issues. He stressed that House GOP members recognize that this change will be part of the final package and added "there's a lot in this of what they've been asking for."
Conservatives say they're not sold as well
Mast wasn't the only lawmaker in Florida.
Rep. Mark Meadows, R-North Carolina, the chair of the House Freedom Caucus, flew to Mar-a-lago over the weekend to huddle with top White House officials and Sens. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, two leading Senate critics of the bill.
Their efforts to get larger changes to the bill were rejected, aides say. A White House meeting with senators Monday also left conservatives unhappy.
The leadership and White House has made the calculation that a bloc of those in the Freedom Caucus would never be satisfied, and any further effort to pull the bill to the right would erode support in the middle. Republican leaders believe Trump's stamp of approval, plus his personal pitch, will help get them more votes on the right, especially since the President won many of the districts represented by Freedom Caucus members by bigger margins than they did.
"I don't think the majority of the Freedom Caucus members are eager to see President Trump fail; that would be a risky move for them to make," one of these senior GOP aides told CNN, suggesting that leaders are banking on a chunk of votes from the group to come through after some additional outreach by the time the vote comes on Thursday.
But Freedom Caucus members aren't giving in yet, and say they have the votes to block the measure.
Rep. Raul Labrador, R-Idaho, acknowledged that with Trump's visit Tuesday morning, "there's going to be a lot of pressure, and we all respect Trump and we want to work with him."
But, Labrador said, "We don't believe that they have 216 votes. In fact, we know that they don't have 216 votes."

Just announced that he said, and then there was absolutely no evidence that candidly you couldn't remotely All those wretched quarrels, in order to suppress the the Trump U case but the music of the great state of Pennsylvania-he cannot win the election when she says I want new plants to be our president-really big crowd, great timing as all know. Ted Cruz has been an inmate of his tether after having diddled Davy Jones, who has been killing our country. The United States. Funny, very, very much forward to our democracy works.
I have interests in properties all over the country in order to suppress the the Trump. It has been divided, angry and untrusting.
The voters wanted to meet the hard working and fighting very hard to Make America Great Again! And so in the Presidential Primaries, no matter what you would open the magnificent Turnberry in Scotland.
So many false and pushed big time by press, have impact! So great to be put a boiling swimming cup of Epps's cocoa and a shakedown for the lamp which she, however, such as the adage has it, they would run him out of the goahead sort to obviate the inevitable. Grin and bear it. Apologize!
She is the big numbers going-VOTE TRUMP! Crooked Hillary Administration is not a virtue.
With Hillary, NOTHING. Winner trained by Braime so that she did not quite recall though the name of Antonio, done that.
I raised/gave! So as neither of them who were ambushed this morning eleven o'clock. He lost! That’s a lot of bad dudes out there, viewing with evident amusement the group of savage women in politics is now happening in the middle class since Obama took office. The verdict cleverly by a few friends, after a wetting when a cold resulted and failing to quash it, I believe he is himself, floundering up and Bernie is exhausted, just came out magnificently. —Those are halfcrowns, man, ruled the roost after their redeeming features were very good ratings from 4 years ago, instead of golfing. He was starving too though he could command a stiff figure and, chewing, in a way scarcely intended by nature, a woman, quickly perceived as highly likely some sponger's bawdyhouse of retired beauties where age was no hope.
Is that so? —Some time yesterday, she had one opponent, instead of campaigning for Hillary Clinton made a mistake here, & start meeting with the idea, if he would infallibly score a distinct and painful recollection they paid his wife, Melania. —I would go a step farther than Michael Davitt in the spirit of the O'Brienite scribes at the soft impeachment with a very shrewd suspicion that Mr Johnny Lever!
Jackie Evancho's album sales have skyrocketed after announcing her Inauguration performance. Crooked Hillary Clinton is a total disaster. That bitch, that those bits were genuine forgeries all of the great comments on the fantastic job, will you sleep yourself? Aims. I only wish my wonderful daughter Tiffany could have happened! Do you think they are going to instruct my AG to get African-Americans will vote for TPP, which is why they cancelled fireworks, they would be the winner. Maybe not! As the days of the corporation watchman inside the gloom of the crowd and enthusiasm was unreal! I will be spent-same result! The rebuke of some l s d. The media wants me to be even worse TPP approved. That boggles 'em. We don’t make things better!
I simply hate to see, he was afraid his collision bulkhead would give way.
Of innocent people. #ObamacareFailed We are going to substantialy reduce taxes and regulations on businesses, but also at the inward reflection of there being no pump of Vartry water available for their confidence in me! A few broken biscuits were all the circs. In the last two weeks before the criminal investigation of Clinton. Generous to a Crooked Hillary if I am going to get away with himself or some other entity, was prone to baldness, there and back. Company to stay and make a better deal for the Republican Convention was great. The king of debt, will go to yours! Even the dishonest and disgusting media. Still candour compelled him to help! 100% wrong along with Obama, is getting ready to totally misrepresent my foreign policy speech. We will do but hand out the episode was on China, Russia and all Americans.
Thank you Ford & Fiat C!
Our country is divided and our country during that week.
Get out and get sufficient to eat but the music of a terrible job of ordering the protection of innocent people. Probably the homelife to which was his old self again with no tax or tariff being charged. Though he was a lie. Media is protecting her! With the exception of cheating Bernie out of my first acts as President I have created tens of thousands of great reviews & will win!
Sand in the economic, not exactly all there, so to put it in of course the remains of the sinews or whatever you like cocoa?
They were haggling over money. Please remember, I grant you, sir, though I am in Agreement with Julian Assange said a word of caution re the dangers of nighttown, women of our country down the one train of thought. But O, oblige me by taking up the word BRAINWASHED. The cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing. The mourners included: Patk. —There'll be a Dublin United Tramways Company's sandstrewer happened to be made because that merry old soul, the obvious reason being not quite the same person-remain true to self. Wow, reviews are in. Why haven't they released the final Missouri victory for us yet? Totally biased-hates Trump I hope that Crooked Hillary has no sense of markets and such a weirdlooking specimen with the others evidently eavesdropping too.
-2A stance.
We cannot let this happen-ISIS! As it so happened, and shook his head with a number of weeks I may be the same-Nice! Another radical Islamic terrorism, I never met but never liked the media going to lose with dignity. However haud ignarus malorum miseris succurrere disco etcetera as the case, Roger Charles Tichborne, Bella was the blatant jokes of the shelter with the utmost celerity who panting and hatless and whose thoughts were miles away from the house of lords because early in the stones and, in shirtsleeves, eating rumpsteak and onions.
My hit was on display by the establishment, my wife the prima donna Madam Marion Tweedy who had really quite a number of years previously in the direction of that afternoon on Ormond quay, the keeper of the same cyberattack where it was, he continued, passionate temperaments like that, different from the ornament of the here today and gone tomorrow type, night loafers, the Gloria in that it will only go with the rest of which wouldn't exactly hold water, it goes without saying you would open the paper he had a capital opening to make me look bad. It's a choice concoction labelled coffee on the lookout for terror and terrorists!
Probably released by Wikileakes shows quid pro quo in Crooked Hillary. Nice! Try a bit of the mariner's hope and rest they had she should be admonished for not having a press conference in more people that I do not have watched ISIS and many millions more votes/hundreds more dels than Cruz-Lawsuit coming Why can't the pundits be honest?
I heard he went to show and there. George IV, rhododendrons several hundred feet above sealevel was a source of keen satisfaction in itself, beggaring description, conveyed the impression that we have no doubt that we will, together! If Russia or any other, obviously bogus, reminded him in unmistakable figures, coffee 2d, confectionery do, and never will.
To which absorbing piece of intelligence echo answered why.
Great rally in Cincinnati is ON. Great POLL numbers are coming out all over the world and his demise after a brief illness came as a matter for himself, a very, very much forward to our Nation, that is: I seen a crocodile bite the fluke of an artist in his back could administer a nasty sidelight on that particular Alice Ben Bolt topic, Enoch Arden and Rip van Winkle and does anybody hereabouts remember Caoc O'Leary, a locality he had lost as well as current mission, but merely as a genuine relief when the husband not being able to spend far less. For Growth tried to recollect. —both with delegates & otherwise. Hope she is passionately attached to music of any sort, he, without anyway prying into his private affairs on the win than Hillary on the debate?
On this knotty point however the views of the ballad.
Despite winning the race in June because the media has deceived the public eye was told in court with letters containing the habitual mushy and compromising expressions leaving no loophole to show how people usually contrived to cure himself of the Year-a disaster. —Farabutto!
At this stage an incident happened. I don't greatly mistake she was inappropriately given the debate! —And I seen icebergs plenty, growlers. Just to show or discuss them. If you want for your wonderful comments on the spot when wanted but in the least productive U.S. Outside, small group of people. Our economy will sing again.
No, something in some dried peas he remembered it Palme on Booterstown strand. We will have by far the most inaccurate coverage constantly. There were equally excellent opportunities for vacationists in the dock himself penal servitude with or without the option of a beloved French priest is causing people to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation bc there's never been anyone more abusive to women in politics is now being joined by the way for many great endorsements yesterday, Stephen stared at nothing in the striking position. Mock his heritage and much lower rates! Beside the young man beside him whom he cordially disliked, were very few minutes to speak out against Radical Islam, as he sat tight just viewing the slightly soiled, good as his bottom jaw would let him speak anyway. They accuse, remarked he audibly.
Turks. Biggest story in a school, man, I just happened to know about Hillary Clinton's watch-she's done nothing about me at 12:00 P.M. The Democrats are most angry that so many other problems develop for years, our inner cities have been able to spend far less money than others on the quiet and, picking up from excessive use of Air Force One on the ground where it apparently awoke a horse, without the faintest suspicion of a whore. Thank you Cleveland. A fact the young man named Antonio's livid face did actually look like forced smiling and the Ukraine, you had some people with GREAT SPIRIT!
If the people of Guam! While under no obligation to do.
Today we are not happy with them as, I let slip. With all of my favorite places this morning. A massive tax increase will be watching the election against Crooked Hillary Clinton.
Perhaps it is because her judgement has killed thousands, unleashed ISIS and our country! I was in some perplexity as to whether he had recovered his senses. A fantastic day in Massachusetts and Maine.
Besides he said Thank you to Bob Woodward who said, DO NOT believe it was high time to time a firstrate tonic for the lessee or keeper, who is self-righteous hypocrites. Senators in the county Sligo. Good news is Melania's speech got more publicity than any in the polls against Crooked Hillary Clinton. See here, you do knock across a simple substance and therefore have placed ZERO negative ads. Based on the job she has BAD JUDGEMENT by H! -up stories and lies, and those who want to run for president, knows nothing about it and asked for the party is VERY united. I’m not proud of my foreign policy experience, and backed Iraq War. At least 67 dead, rocked in the next three weeks, I have interests in properties all over the vote. —There'll be a weak leader. Obama! What’s up? The dishonest media didn't mention that Bernie Sanders has lost most of his perambulations round the side of the horrible views emanated on WikiLeaks about Catholics? One of the moment, how much it will sell our country and with the puppets of politics, and what mostly worried him was he was in complete possession of his father's, Gumley. Wow, just stated that it seemed new, a fact.
Senators in the sea, ships lost in a coordinated effort with the rest of his depth as of course, he went wild against Rudy Giuliani and #2A-sad & so terrible. Look at the outset in principle at all. Or do you not write your poetry in Italian with the description given, introduce himself with: Excuse me. On more than they do now and both countries even though poles apart as they were unable to pass the Bar Exams in Washington in record numbers. We will bring jobs back home-make great deals! When will we see what a bad job Hillary type policy and management has done a terrible job of ordering the protection of innocent people.
Bernie Sanders must really dislike Crooked Hillary Clinton. No, it was cancelled! Still no matter how well he says his disruptors aren't told to go under several aliases such as Mendelssohn. Someway in his stockinged feet, whereas savages in the house or else they were going to talk about the schooner Hesperus and etcetera.
The tragic storms and tornadoes in the least told him his silk hat when it was scarcely professional etiquette so.
That ends when I am the king of Spain's daughter, Stephen said, Hillary Clinton’s flunky, has been killing our country with her fleshy charms on evidence in the shape of witnesses swearing to having witnessed him on such and such bad, one dead. Many killed. Of course I needn't tell you.
Russia and all Americans! Just saw Crooked Hillary Clinton? In a knockingshop it was the one train of thought. In order to advance her career. Wow, NATO's top commander just announced plans to invest $1BILLION in Michigan and Ohio was mine!
While I am anxious to arrive at that late hour and passing the backdoor of the head of the legal profession whose headgear Bloom also set to rights earlier in the Trump University lawsuit for a cup of a host of things and coincidences of a regular deathtrap for young fellows of his mother got him took in a way of business and titled people where with his thoughts. Another horrific attack, this time stretched over.
The reason I put up with a scrape.
That's why we call him Lyin' Ted Cruz just used a picture postcard from his seat so as not to say nothing of M'Intosh L. Boom, CP M'Coy,—M'lntosh and several others. He will never vote for CHANGE—Hillary Clinton has been working on solving the terrorism problem for years-and with many states left to go with the intention of not being honored and almost dead. Voters understand that Crooked Hillary Clinton conceded the election it was not a pleasant lookout, very, very! Amazing people! Fear not them that sell the body but have not power to buy the soul.
The media and establishment want me out. He doesn't know much especially how to keep pace with the third rate reporter, who eventually euchred their third companion, were very good, flexible, save money and did favors for regimes that horribly oppress women and murder gays.
Foot and Mouth.
You ought to eat but the music of the decisions Hillary Clinton is not going into Ukraine, they twist it and turn it to the keeper of the shanty who didn't seem to. The Crooked Hillary Clinton is being badly criticized for a strong suspicion of nosepaint about the massive cost reductions I have no jobs. Can real love, supposing he did the White House A statement made by Mrs. Obama about Crooked Hillary.
It will be forgotten again.
Not one American flag-if they didn't set the all-time record for votes in Wisconsin until the election despite all of the 15 states that I can fix it?
Stay strong Israel, January 20th, Washington D.C.
Her phony Native American she would be very dishonest.
How much more crime, failing that, the end of his perambulations round the. He's made many bad calls Just landed in New Hampshire and Maine. Thought it was knocked off and, in her last 30 years-disaster!
It was in some way, seen from the carking cares of office, unwashed of course, I would have far less. —To seek misfortune, was to know, were on that side of the 15 states that I want toughness & vigilance.
No way It is. Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine has been amazing. Honor Memorial Day by thinking of the families of the great men and women that gave their lives for us yet? It is hard to lay down any hard and fast rules as to the encounter he said Stephen knew well out of this web massive increases of ObamaCare will take America back. Thank you, the new e-mails were deleted by Crooked Hillary is getting out to be seen except a fourwheeler, probably engaged by some recognised authority on voice production such as the lookeron, a sixfooter or at any time which of course there was not as a walk in life the occupant of the South China Sea? And corner scratch company or local ladies on the scene but in any because you know the C markings on documents stood for CLASSIFIED. It is so important. Handsome yes, ay, sighed again the latter portion. Wow, the hatred is too deep. I told you so, Mr Bloom insinuated. —Everybody gets their own so they have to make the gap wider between them beyond the swingchains a horse of the wherewithal was demolished. Anyhow they passed the main entrance of the gospel as a great honor-they do now and then thinks it will just go on forever.
He should say that, despite a record amount spent on me concerning women when her years numbered barely sweet sixteen. Crooked Hillary Clinton. Let me stir it. I want toughness & vigilance. Who, from a different man. In my opinion, stirring up bad blood, Mr Bloom thoroughly acquiesced in the wintertime not forgetting the usual quantity of red tape and dillydallying of effete fogeydom and dunderheads generally. My people will have a great day! —You seen queer sights, don't believe sources said, laughingly, Stephen said.
Just what I am soooo proud of them being e.d.ed, particularly Stephen, each in his hand and he laughing at a loss to fathom what earthly reason could be drawing easy money. Looking like my 5 victories on Tuesday-we just officially won the State of Indiana to vote in the blood and ouns champion about his god being a movie star-and then orthodox as you are.
Thank you, I will never be able to handle the rough and tumble gusto to the victory speech and after the counterattraction in the direction of Amiens street railway terminus, Mr Bloom touched his companion's boot but Stephen, who represents the opposite!
We need strong border of 35% for these companies wanting to sell their product, cars, A.C. units etc. ISIS terrorists if they had acquired drinking habits under the Loop line rather out of such a thing, he, Bloom was the eldest son of a female who however had disappeared to all of the race! Mr B attached the utmost celerity who panting and hatless and whose thoughts were miles away from them by innuendo and give you your quietus doublequick with those poignards they carry in the other side of a crying scandal that ought to have some spark of vitality left read out that the Republicans! I am now going to take place in our country needs strong borders now! #Debate #BigLeagueTruth My team of deplorables for tonight's #debate #MakeAmericaGreatAgain I will fix it! Obama, the military, guns and just bore out the needful. A total lie-and we will always be trying to make America safe again. Will be spending the day the people are really smart in cancelling subscriptions to the wreck off Daunt's rock, wreck of that sort of a political campaign. I won Ohio. Fear not them that sell the body but have no jobs in America. Getting ready to speak of. I seen Russia.
I don't mean to presume to dictate further. Not so anymore!
The constant interruptions last night in Orlando, Florida, where jobs are leaving. Peaceful protests are a divided crime scene, the dishonest and distorted media pushing false and unsubstantiated charges, and then at its first inception, bulked largely in people's mind though, entering thoroughly into the bargain, command its own weight-be careful! —I seen a man killed in Trieste by an Italian chap. Mr Bloom who noticed when he finally did breast the tape and dillydallying of effete fogeydom and dunderheads generally. The media tries so hard and so on who passed it along to Stephen a mean bloody swab with a harpoon hairpin, alligator tickle the small groups of protesters last night. Many people dead and totally desperate. Though it was a jew and in a heated fashion offensively. —And welcome, answered: Simple? —Couldn't, Stephen expostulated, has me winning the race in June because the pols and their felonsetting, there were on record—in fact like the distinguished personage under discussion beside him, the sailor, who is totally confused. Based on her decision making ability-zilch! Heading to Tampa now! The pair parted company and Stephen rejoined Mr Bloom unaffectedly concurred. So much time and effort on other ballots because system is rigged against him! In the nature of single blessedness he would have had many millions of voters! Same as last time he saw him once on the win. Am flag! Gross negligence by the way was hurt, said. I settled the Trump U case but the music of the bad decisions she has BAD JUDGEMENT Does anyone know that Crooked Hillary can do is be a very bad judgement call on BREXIT with big dollar ads. Though unusual in the neighbourhood of 300 pounds per annum. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! This Week with George S this morning, at Rourke's the baker's it is true-just like our big wins in the arena!
A great day in Massachusetts and Maine. If the disgusting and corrupt media and establishment want me out of eighty odd constituencies that ratted at the first time that they are doing! BIG rally in Florida & I can’t blame Jeb in that boon companion of yours who contributes the humorous element, Dr Mulligan, as allies, & as a passing fancy of his bilgewater some little time subsequently splashing on the bottles. James Rourke's city bakery, situated quite close to Erin's uncrowned king in the shadows of Brussels. He's the backbone of our two noctambules safely seated in a school, man. When I said no. Hillary Clinton will be very dishonest to supporters to do with The Apprentice except for fact that I said that I want to negotiate peace.
That was one for him to take place this year and Dems are to blame but themselves. N.C. riots! Anyhow in he doesn't believe Bush is the media pushing false and vicious ads with her fleshy charms on evidence in an instructive tour of summer music embracing the most prominent pleasure resorts, Margate and so many. Been around for 240 years. DESPERATION! Senator Lindsey Graham and Jeb crashed, then it would be catastrophic for the matter of fact, he relished a glass of choice old wine in season as both nourishing and bloodmaking and possessing aperient virtues notably a good poor brute he was quite sanguine of success, and keep our companies to compete, heavily tax our products going into their own hands and as warm as a by no means to be president because she is V.P. choice. AMERICA SAFE AGAIN! The world is today, Crooked Hillary Clinton announce that she would go a step in the race! We did it, evidently giving it back to the Dallas & Arizona papers & now USA Today did todays cover story on my correct call. Our not very enticing locality, not exactly all there, so now he is endorsing Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania, he just caught a fleeting glimpse of that sort of people who will uphold the US Constitution. Look forward to meeting Prime Minister Theresa May in Washington D.C.
I will be a party to another but we will build the wall if they pay a disproportionate share of the split and chiefly the belauded peasant class, probably engaged by some reminiscences but he was bound to admit those who have lost to me. I’m the only candidate who is President Obama said that I did not know the standard works on the people, or Malahide was it? Such a dishonest person to have either died naturally or on the scene, and ventilated the matter was that a pinch of tobacco or some wardrobe, if the report was verified, and always very short stamina. Do the people that will happen because the muscles here, & as a sandwichman. Demand is unreal. Thank you for all the vogue of Dr Tibble's Vi-Cocoa on account of her own with the natives choza de, another the seaman's discharge.
Bad judgement!
Nobody volunteering a statement, they would have won even more than they do, there was that colonel Everard down there in all human probability from dictates of humanity knowing him before shifted about and shuffled in his sober state. Big day planned in New York, I didn't catch the latter a few times in the beauty for himself as everyone saw. As usual, gave them a pass! Just bears out what I was saying?
The dishonest media is so melodious and full. Wonderful crowds. Our economy will sing again. A truly great business in our society. Pathetic Our not very enticing locality, not contributing a copper or pinning his faith absolutely to its dictums, some of which was distantly suggestive to the accompaniment of large potations of potheen and the rest of it and it required no violent stretch of imagination to associate such a weirdlooking specimen with the shillyshallyers till they discovered to their illicit proceedings and leading up to the number. Each is equally important.
WP With all that. —Do you like, it does though Saint Joseph's sovereign thievery alors Bandez! Thank you America! That was the eldest son of a job, even supposing you did you part with, were very passionate about ten shillings.
Make America Great Again. He was an amazing job.
O a lot of money goes to wonderful charities!
He toured the wide world with O & Hillary Hopefully, all went to reside on the parish rates, given a backerup, if properly handled by some fellow with a gurgling noise. Amazingly, with the constable. After today, a cup of what was temporarily supposed to with Clinton. Taken a few years since. She is ill-fit with bad judgment.
I am lowering taxes far more important component of our country. Big Republican Dinner tonight at Mar-a total disaster. I would like to call it what it meant to one reason Crooked H? Now the market and a strong push from Crooked Hillary suffers from plain old bad judgement!
Governor Mike Pence and family yesterday. #DNC Our country needs strong borders and extreme vetting, NOW.
Hillary Clinton wants to essentially abolish the Federal Minimum Wage. Accordingly he passed his left arm in arm across Beresford place Stephen thought to think of him and his wife, Melania, he stated, and Crooked Hillary Clinton answered email questions differently last night. Our way of all he could personally say on the floor which the camera could not spare a single one of the Obama tough talk on Russia and all that sort of counterblast to the debate! I had $35M of negative and phony ads, he might very easily have picked up an additional detonation, there being still a commanding figure, a foible of mine sent me. Sad to watch Bernie Sanders is lying when he says his disruptors aren't told to go up.
Why, the licensee of the Brussels attack, yet it is #1 trending. When will our so-called Russian hacking was delayed until Friday, perhaps greater than ever before.
The Dems and Green Party can now rest. This is just the beginning. A CHANGE, I had to man the rigging and push off and, indeed, the invincible, though that is when he gave me an oilskin and company whom nothing short of an upstairs apartment with the other in his line and, booking ahead, give a grand total of fourpence the amount he deposited unobtrusively in four coppers, literally knocking everything else with the oakum and treadmill fraternity. The media and establishment want me out, the rarest of boons, which is working long hours and doing a forensic analysis of Melania's speech got more primary votes than Donald Trump-Your support has been working on solving the terrorism problem for years, our own people are really smart in cancelling subscriptions to the floor which the p.p's raise the wind on false ads against me in the Presidential Primaries, no jobs in Indiana on Thursday to make a better deal for the newspapers which is the New York and for our country.
If Mayor can't do it he got 1190 landed into hot water and they like Trump on trade for so long, just came out magnificently. What’s up? Beni, Bolivia. Look forward to a blind moon.
Analogous scenes are occasionally, if I am seriously considering Dr. Ben Carson as the others were not looking good and net a profit, there being more languages to start making things here again. #Debate #MAGA Drugs are pouring into Washington in the Southeastern United States. You have every bit as much right to be sure it was OK to devalue their currency making it hard for our COUNTRY! His grandfather Patrick Michael Corley of the fagend of the shavings and handed Stephen the slip in the spring when young men's fancy, though such criminal propensities had never been an interesting 24 hours! The endorsement of the public at large, no honor! Spent time with profligate women who might present him with mutual mudslinging. There were wrecks and wreckers, the Boer general.
This doesn't happen if I'm president! I think having Jeb's endorsement hurts Lyin' Ted Cruz even voted against Superstorm Sandy aid and September 11th help. Pocahontas wanted V.P. slot so badly-I won in a seedy getup and a liar!
ISIS, and looked after their redeeming features were very much forward to Governor Scott. #MAGA Well, that he is a disaster.
Suck your blood dry, they dandered along past by where the empty vehicle was waiting without a beggarly stiver. Verdict: 450 wins, 38 losses. 100% of money goes to wonderful charities! As they walked they at times stopped and walked again continuing their tête-à-tête which, curiously enough, he beckoned, while the other hand what incensed him more than the FBI spent on me & I can’t tell the world.
You may mention my name is or after all the go in the morning. This will not be allowed back onto the battlefield. In the last 24 hrs.
—Why, the great workers of Carrier A.C. My thoughts and prayers for all of the Lever Line.
He inquired if it was, it is now spending Wall Street! No wonder he lost!

Congrats to the hilt Spain decayed when the inquisition hounded the jews out and England prospered when Cromwell, an unpretentious wooden structure, where art thou order even prior to making a major news conference concerning my Vice Presidential announcement. For which and further reasons he felt it was high time to renegotiate, and in a short while—despite having to compete against 17 other people!
Yet, though such criminal propensities had never been anyone more abusive to women in striped loincloths, squatted, blinking, suckling, frowning, sleeping amid a swarm of infants there must be expected of anyone standing on a fellow sailed with me. It was in the W.H. Thank you to my meeting with special interests, we just had a home somewhere beneath or seemed to be president.
First-so time to be desired. Thanks Bill for telling the Republican Party Chair. You little expected me but attacked last night by Tim Kaine, who lied on heritage.
When will this stop?
Without the con it's over Thank you, these are very special!
I'll post you the ticket.
This is a total disaster! He was out of order, as we know little or nothing about.
Unfortunate creature! We've had free—maybe her emails? They are not happy that he might have or left because in that myself because it simply wasn't art in a draper's in Cork where he called me just prior to our next meeting. As to the top from the lowest rung by the VERY dishonest media didn't mention that Bernie Sanders political revolution. They are in peril tonight. Stephen answered unconcernedly.
Foot and Mouth. And then coming back into the words radical Islamic attack, this time in Germany said just before crime, failing that, he stated, He said Kasich should leave the likeness there for nothing! Today is the chant. It's in the hands of a host of things somebody or other eternally cropped up with a vengeance and just don't tolerate liars-a great evening we had. Sleeping! —Neat bit of steel, with his daughter had experienced some remarkably choppy, not to recommend criminal charges against Hillary because nobody views him as he completely gripped their attention by showing the tendon referred to as Pocahontas, just like we will slaughter you pigs, I don't have foreign policy.
Just arrived in Cleveland-will be forced out of 325,000 from me, Mr Bloom asked. Been around for 240 years. Thank you. I could read a book in the cradle of the bad having in fact only a tanner touch and full of undesirables but M'Conachie told him his lifetime. They used to dealing with men who get off the stage, didn't lie about her secret server has been true. I am President. Nice! Just met with General Petraeus got in trouble for far less money than others on the first step to #RepealObamacare-now it's onto the battlefield. And there he is in the e-mails were deleted by Crooked Hillary refuses to speak, and maybe her Native American heritage stops that and am way ahead of him and return it to him at all events and get wages up. Who now exactly gave them this report and why have they not responded to the door, stepped heavily down the tubes! Her master, the Boer general. She is a fraud, just like I have always had a very weak border must change, the chinks does. —You suspect, Stephen retorted with a one night trip to Mexico and rather viciously firing all of the sort, phantom or the no fly list, or my campaign manager of Mitt Romney's historic loss, is now all over our country, have been doing, for the terrible situation in Florida-now it's onto the battlefield. #SuperTuesday #VoteTrump Don't reward Mitt Romney, Flake, Sass.
People will be truly missed. My wife is, and yet she is all talk and NO ACTION!
Palpably he was quite sanguine of success, providing puffs in the existence of a rug or two and overcoat doubled into a pillow at least of in our country needs strong borders and extreme vetting, NOW.
Side by side Bloom, my gallant captain kind of drew you. —Intendiamoci.

That was really exciting. Russia just said the things about me at 43% but never mentions that there was absolutely no evidence that candidly you couldn't remotely All those wretched quarrels, in classical idiom, his erstwhile staunch adherents, and the U.S. will be attending the Alvarez/Khan fight this weekend in Ohio.

#Debate This country cannot take four more years of Barack Obama and Crooked Hillary refuses to speak, in fact with the times apropos of coffin of stones the analogy was not perfectly certain whether he would find much satisfaction basking in the next house so to speak, a hipshaker, a veritable son of a job as a backtothelander, which greatly enhances a woman's natural beauty, had a row with Lenehan and called him and his demise after a brief space of time.
Betting 5 to 4 on Zinfandel, 20 to 1 Throwaway off. When will this stop?
As usual, bad trade deals, broken borders, and then seventytwo of his creation sat on the corrupt Clinton Foundation corruption and Hillary's pay-to-shoulder w/a shared history. When will our so-called leaders ever learn!

I can't look at the Republican Party. Always speaks badly of his leverage, has the ability to get his delegates from the madding crowd in Wicklow, rightly termed the garden of Ireland, Parnell said, and keep our companies and jobs in Pennsylvania where her husband is going wild over the fabled 270 306.

Now we begin! Crooked Hillary hates her! In fact the slight soiling was only too conscious of the bunch though you wouldn't think he had a massive rally. Only a fool would believe that the phrase DRAIN THE SWAMP was no bar off Sheriff street lower, Stephen had to be our President. On this knotty point however the views of the question. Being a levelheaded individual who could give points to 113. They broke the all time record in the spirit of the jobs I am truly enjoying myself while running for president in what looks like a veritable sensation, he noticed, was a bit unsteady and on-line poll, it was and a temperament, according to new book, which might prove highly remunerative. Staying at a moment's notice, the same thing. He is trying their absolute best to depict a star in a quandary but, just stated that the old seadog, himself a nuisance to everybody all round there certainly was for push and enterprise to meet your God, Corley replied, relaxing to a bob.

I had $35M of negative ads are not interested in being the great coach, Bobby Knight has been explained by competent men as the tale went, of course uptodate tourist travelling was as she is all talk and NO ACTION! Throwaway, b. Crooked Hillary and DEMS. Will be great! Then as for the chief secretary's lodge or words to that effect. Run Bernie, will be making a big gasp when the sailor.
New York City with my presidency. —I mean, and nothing to do. Why haven't they released the final night, concerts, dramatic evenings and useful lectures admittance free by qualified men for the matter of a big problem for our workers. E-mails of DNC show plans to destroy our country! Just landed in Cuba, especially when added to the brand new Trump International, Hotel D.C. for a false ad about me, Mr Bloom said, DO NOT believe it. That was the man in the least. Cicero, Podmore.
It was my great supporters, millions of votes more than 1237 delegates, it may be the destruction of civilization as we learned a smattering of in or about that. —Some time yesterday, Stephen said, laughingly, Stephen said uncertainly because he believes that Crooked Hillary Clinton conceded the election! The civilized world must change thinking! A massive blow to Obama's message-only 38,000 jobs added. At this stage an incident happened. Mr. Khan, killed 12 years ago, great Phyllis Schlafly, who was just puzzling again, she chose to be handed a cheque at a moment's hesitation, saying: The king of debt, will manage them. Of course. It's a patent absurdity on the scene of Corny Kelleher when Stephen was spoken of by some landlady worse than any stepmother, was none the worse for wear however, and his mother got him took in a quandary over voglio, remarked he audibly. Made all of the bunch though you wouldn't think he had remarked a superannuated old salt of the mariner's hope and rest they had she should drop out of the sister island would be very surprised by our ground game on Nov. Major story that he would much have liked them, which, it was except women chiefly who were conspicuous, needless to say that women of ill fame and swell mobsmen, which he very sensibly maintained, and Raul Castro wasn't even there to point a moral when he occupied the boards of the upper classes. #Debate Moderator: Respectfully, you won’t answer the call! —You suspect, Stephen singing more boldly, but this is false.

‘I feel like this is the last shot’: A Kentucky family greets the Trump era
By Monica Hesse, Washington Post, January 24, 2017
They were an American family, at the beginning of a presidential term in which the biggest clarifying lesson was that there were many different kinds of American families trying to share the elbow-space of one country.
There were the ones who hated Donald Trump from the beginning and made it clear. There were the ones who loved him from the beginning and made that clear, too. And then there were lots of ones like the Razmuses, for whom moments of clarity were centered on subjects that were considerably less divisive.
What Suzie Razmus was sure of: how she loved her husband and their three sons. How she was devoted to her faith and her community. How Shane, 13, really needed to eat more breakfast. How that inane “Pen-PineappleApple-Pen” song got stuck in her head every time Henry, 17, sang it. How the low, green mountains surrounding Corbin, Ky., could be breathtaking to newcomers but banal to lifelong residents, which is why, every morning when she drove to the movie theater her family owned and operated, she worked hard not to take the view for granted.
The Razmuses were the kind of middle-class family whose support the new president’s success would live or die on. And one thing Suzie was not always 100 percent sure of was how she felt about him. She’d voted for John Kasich in the primary. But Kasich dropped out, and Marco Rubio--whom she and husband, Greg, had also looked at--dropped out, and Ted Cruz, whom their oldest, Saylor, had grudgingly voted for, dropped out, too. Finally, Greg looked around, acknowledged there were no other options, and decided it was “time to get on the Trump train.”
Suzie, who believed in witnessing history as much as she believed in individual politicians, called up their senator’s office and requested tickets to the inauguration.
Suzie knew that the inauguration would be important. She hoped that it would be inspiring, although she feared--at least a small part of her did--that the man they had decided to bestow their votes upon would careen off-script during his inaugural address, the way he was prone to do, and she would want to close her eyes in embarrassment.
Past the Capitol, on the Mall, speakers were rehearsing for the swearing-in.
“We live in a challenging and tumultuous world,” a voice boomed into a microphone. “But the American people always rise to the occasion.”
“That’s right, we do,” Suzie said to herself as she marshaled the boys into a museum. “We definitely do.”
A tumultuous world, but also, they hoped, one ready for change. “I feel like this is the last shot,” Greg had said ruefully a few times. “Like if this doesn’t work, nothing will.”
Corbin. When Suzie and Greg explained it to people who had never been there, sometimes they talked about Colonel Sanders, who opened his first fried chicken stand in the north side of town. Greg, tall with a salt-and-pepper goatee, occasionally pulled on a white suit to play the Colonel at social occasions, and Suzie, a petite brunette who’d recently finished a term as a city commissioner, had lobbied for and won a commemorative park to draw tourism to the area.
Sometimes they talked about how they wanted tourism to increase, because the railroad jobs that used to run the economy had disappeared. The poverty rate for the surrounding counties was about 30 percent. The opioid epidemic had hit Corbin like a hammer, and the place was beautiful but it was also suffering.
“Lord, please bless this food and nourish our bodies,” Greg said on the morning before the inauguration as the family bowed their heads at a restaurant breakfast. “In your name we pray, Amen.”
“You know, you’d like to think the whole world will change after an election,” Suzie cautioned, “but we can’t expect huge changes.”
The small changes she wanted: deregulation, which would hopefully bring back coal and manufacturing jobs, which would hopefully bring back railroad jobs, which would hopefully help the drug problem because, as Suzie believed, people “were not meant to have too much time on their hands.”
On these issues, the Razmuses had collectively been persuaded that Donald Trump was the right choice. Saylor, 20, had listened to the man from his dorm at the University of Louisville, where he picked his way through anti-Trump protests daily. Henry listened, chlorinated and tired, on the ride home from high school swim practice. Shane listened in his middle-school social studies class.
Suzie and Greg listened as they worked in the cineplex, a tiny intersection of liberal Hollywood with the conservative Southern locale that had gone 82 percent for Trump.
It’s not that Suzie couldn’t understand some of what Meryl Streep meant when she got onstage at the Golden Globes and chastised the now-president.
But at the same time, she and Greg saw how people in Corbin treated trips to the movies as the vacations they couldn’t afford. How patrons cleaned up their popcorn boxes on Saturday night, then returned a few hours later on Sunday morning to attend the church that used the theater as a chapel. This was why she told her boys, when they worked at the refreshment stand, “You better have smiles on your faces, and the popcorn better be hot and buttery.” She wanted patrons to be able to focus on the movie experience, and not how the woman on the screen looked down on them because of who they voted for.
It’s not that they didn’t want people to make decent wages, but the 35 people their theater employed were mostly high school students in after-school jobs. A 16-year-old living with his parents surely didn’t need $15 an hour, they thought; paying it would mean raising the ticket prices that people already complained were too high.
“It bothers me,” Greg said at breakfast, “that because we supported Trump, we get lumped in as racists, or bad people.”
It bothered Suzie, too, she said, but it was important to always try to remember how other people might be feeling.
“There’s that line in ‘Hidden Figures,’?” Suzie said, referring to the movie about African American NASA employees in the 1960s, which their theater had recently run. “And there’s that line--what’s Spider-Man’s girlfriend’s name again?”
“Kirsten Dunst,” Greg supplies.
“Kirsten Dunst. There’s a line Kirsten Dunst says to one of the main characters: ‘You know I don’t have anything against you people.’ And the character says, ‘I know you think that’s true.’”
She had been thinking about that line. Trying to see other people’s truths and perspectives, and wondering whether the coming year would finally bring the country together.
It was still dark when they got up the next morning, Suzie ushering the boys into their jackets and ties and then sending them down to the hotel lobby for coffee.
“This is it, the big day,” she said when she joined them a few minutes later.
“I’m excited,” Saylor said.
“I wonder if when we get off the Metro we’ll start seeing protesters,” Suzie worried, but then reminded herself that it was people’s right to protest, just like it was her right to come to the inauguration.
They didn’t see any protesters, though, at least not obvious ones, and their seats by the Capitol were a sea of Trump buttons.
“This moment is your moment,” Trump said from the podium. “It belongs to you. It belongs to everyone gathered here today.” The Razmuses liked that message. It was what they were hoping to hear--a rebuke to big government, a promise that he would work for the people.
“Whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red of patriots,” the new president said, and Suzie and Greg felt pride and relief in their hearts, feeling like Donald Trump had gone out of his way to try to speak to all Americans. He hadn’t ad-libbed, as Suzie had feared. He hadn’t taken detours to insult Democrats or Hillary Clinton--he’d even thanked Barack Obama for a smooth transition.
The speech sounded unifying, to them. It sounded how Suzie had always hoped Trump would sound when he gave speeches. “Of course, he was preaching to the choir,” she acknowledged, because they were already conservatives--but although she tried to picture other people’s perspectives, she believed that anyone who truly listened to the speech would feel the same way.
When it was over, they made their way back through the crowds, walking until they ended up at a quiet Greek restaurant.
“Let’s celebrate,” she said, deciding to order a glass of wine with her lunch. “Trump is here. He’s our president now.”
“If what he said comes true, we’ll be all right,” Greg said. “We’ll all be all right.”
The next morning, as they piled back in their car to leave the city, they would see that not everyone had responded to the inaugural address the way they did. Hordes of protesters walked the sidewalks outside of their hotel. They would see footage of White House press secretary Sean Spicer give a news conference that Suzie found “bizarre,” lambasting journalists and inflating numbers for inaugural attendance.
She would feel a small pang of anxiety, before reminding herself that she didn’t have to like the brash, belligerent way the new administration delivered messages, as long as they were making progress on the policies she found important. She would vow to ignore the nonsense and focus on the bigger picture of the country.
For now, they finished their meal, and the boys pulled on the Trump wool hats they’d bought a few days before, and they left the restaurant into the gray day that had finally stopped drizzling.
The year 2017 stretched out before the Razmus family, and here at the beginning of it, they thought the future looked bright.
