the simple change from david saying “you can try begging” and ellies “fuck you” to ellie spitting in his face, screaming and crying and him say “I thought you already knew, the fighting is the part I like the most” as he holds her down.... ellie does NOT scream like that in the game and that change it made the situation much more real and horrifying

I’m just going to leave this right here because this is a masterpiece. This is acting in its rawest fucking form and I swear to god if Bella doesn’t win an Emmy for this performance, I will riot.
Her screams of terror turning to screams of blackout rage?
Yeah this is fucking INSANE
And no, I will never shut up about it.

There’s this moment during episode 8 that really stood out to me and it’s during David’s whole tirade about the cordyceps
He’s talking about how amazing they are and saying how it isn’t evil and how it “secures it’s future with violence” and it’s good actually and there’s this split second moment where Ellie’s eyes HARDEN like she’s resisting everything to not attack him right then, to not scowl and scream at him
And I know she was thinking of Riley of Tess of Sam of this horrible fucking virus that’s taken EVERYONE away from her except Joel
And now this fucking psycho is standing in front of her, who took her away from Joel, who wants to kill him, and is praising the very thing that’s ruined the world and has hurt her personally over and over again
And you can see in her eyes, in that moment, she makes the decision that when she kills him, she’s going to make it hurt

Isabela Merced talked about tlou in a recent interview promoting her new movie, so i transcribed that part
youtube
Correct me if I’m wrong – are you in the middle of The Last of Us right now? Are you basically taking a break for press?
We are on the tail end of it, I think we're about to be done soon. I already saw the teaser, Craig Mazin showed it to me. It was phenomenal, and I’m really excited for the world to see it.
I got a chance to do the podcast with Craig after last season. I know you must now be an amazing fan, that guy's a genius. He's amazing and such a sweet guy. Did you go hard after this one? Were you a fan of the game?
Yeah, yeah. I never played the first one, I probably will after this. But the second one I played, and I loved it. And it was really cool to see how the sets look exactly the same. It's so neat. Every day on set is challenging, I will say. It's a show about fungus. So it's not glamorous by any means, and it's hard topics and conversations. Fear is one of the main emotions that we experience throughout. And I'm really proud of Bella. I think if I were to close this out, if this was the last interview I did about The Last of Us before he wrapped, I would say, you know, I really hope Bella gets their flowers. They're working really, really hard, physically and emotionally, mentally. One thing I've learned throughout this is like, wow, you can really admire people who are younger than you. You can really look up to them, absolutely.
Yeah, no, Bella is a special one. I also spoke to them after the first season and just the intense scrutiny too and, you know, there's toxicity out there. The stuff that you guys have to deal with, it's crazy. Just let the great actors act, and Bella is a great one.
Well, what confuses me is the showrunner and the creator of the video game, they work together to make this. So if you like what the guy made and he's making more of it, why are you mad? I don't know, I'm too opinionated to be on twitter. Like, I really need off, because I see this stuff, and it makes me just want to go Cardi B on them, you know what I mean?
I'm worried about your buddy Kaitlyn, Kaitlyn Dever, one of the great actors of our time. Abby – no spoilers – does some things that people don't necessarily approve of. Kaitlyn’s going to get some hate through proxy of just being Abby.
There's so many strange people in this world. There are people that actually, genuinely, hate Abby, who is not a real person. Just a reminder – not a real person. And so, you know, Kaitlyn had to be extra-secured by security when it came to the filming of this. Kaitlyn is such a cool person who just does not get phased by things, really has her head in the right place, and also is going through a lot right now, personally.
I know she lost her mom, yeah.
Yeah, it's devastating to see. But also, give her the damn Emmy, honestly. I’m so excited for people to see how incredibly well Bella and Kaitlyn did on this.
And obviously the relationship between Ellie and Dina is important. I assume you guys screen tested as well, you and Bella?
Oh, no actually. Craig and Neil came to me for a “generic meeting”, as they say. And I was like, okay. Then they kind of mentioned the show and how there's a character there that maybe… and I thought oh, even if the meeting goes well, I'll still have to audition and I'll do my research and whatever. And I guess they decided there and then that they wanted me. So that's wild. I don't even think I believe in myself that much. So I'm like, okay, sure, I'll accept it.
Is there something that you've shot that you're most excited for fans to see? I know we have a long way to go before we see it, but something that you took part in that you can't wait for the fandom to see?
I think it's the romance for me. I think it's the romance between the two of us that really brings a tear to my eye. I have a whole playlist for Dina and Ellie. It's beautiful, there's this one song that we would play on set, that I would play on set and that Bella really loved, by Adrianne Lenker, that really set the tone for us. It's beautiful. I think they did a really good job.

Long Long Time
With the ending of The Last of Us this past weekend, I was left with thoughts. The ride was one of the best I’ve been on but, for some reason, i was left wanting. The game is one of the best I have ever played but, more than that, something felt off. I enjoyed my time in this incredibly rich take on that bleak ass world but, before I actually commented on it, I took some time to actually think on my overall experience. These are the primary realizations I had after letting that entire series sit with me for a few days after that explosive conclusion.
Bella Ramsey was good as her Ellie but she's not THE Ellie. Game Ellie hits completely different. There is this softness to her that Show Ellie lacks. While I will always prefer Ashley Johnson in the role, Bella really did make the character her own.
Pedro's Pascal is daddy. There were certain choices made with Adaption Joel that I don't necessarily agree with but, overall, I think they did The character justice. Obviously, I prefer the game version because I am a Gamer before anything but Pascal really delivered.
As an adaption, The Last of Us was exceptional. They capture the feel and tone of the source material perfectly, while simultaneously adjusting an hours long game narrative for television consumption. They had to basically distill thirty or so hours of game play down into something a non-Gamer would find captivating and they, for sure, did that.
Episode three, goddamn! This was the high point of the show and it wasn't even about Joel and Ellie. I'm sure you know about why this episode stands above the rest so there's no need to go into detail but, suffice it to say, Nick f*ckin' Offerman!
Some of the other changes were blergh. Ellie baby exposure was kind of meh. Like, that's how vaccines work. You just found a way to vaccinate people against the shrooms. Do that to other pregernants. You're willing to murder a teenager, what's a few mothers-to-be? That changes kind of makes everything these characters go through, inconsequential, bordering meaningless.
Hive mind subplot just disappeared. Sh*t was cool for an episode but then just never revisited. Why? Do you know how much more terrifying that world is now??
Gorgeous and expensive and you see every penny onscreen.
Should have had more infected. Seriously, for all the loot onscreen, there was a criminal lack of actual infected action. I know that stuff doesn't translate from game to screen well but goddamn, man. Three set pieces the whole show?? Three?
But them flashbacks, tho. Goddamn! Seriously, that cold open for episode one was chilling and the little expose for episode two? That, on it's own, could be a solid Emmy admission for Best Short. It was that good.
Speaking of original content,, I hear they might expand upon this little world they created for season two instead of jumping straight into the narrative of the sequel game. I'm not a fan of the Part II story so expanding might be dope. Like, there should have been a game in between those two showing the deterioration of Ellie and Joel's relationship and I kind of hope the show actually gives that lost content to us.
That said, most of the original content was the worst part of this show. Not the flashback stuff, that was inspired, but the additions and tweaks. Don't misunderstand me, as far as television is concerned, it's top tier. I just worry for when the writers go off-script so to speak.
I don't want the quality of this show to fall off a cliff like with Game of Thrones and, if that bit with Kathleen is anything to go off of, I might be right in my apprehension.
Sh*t was too short. We didn't get to spend time enough with Ellie and Joel. More to the point, Joel and Ellie didn't get to spend that much time together. Watching that beautifully shot and cut rampage Joel goes on during the season finale rang a bit hollow because, not two episodes earlier, Joel was still acting like a dick. Now, he's massacring an entire hospital to "save" Ellie? Really?
The game is still much, much, better. Go play that. Seriously, if you’ve never played the game, but enjoy the show, go play that sh*t right now.

194 - “Salty”
Beginning / Previously / Next
(( Try Jesus - Tobe Nwigwe ))
Special thanks to @servegrilledcheese for creating Zhi!
For easier reading, please see transcript below:
Devon: They are salty… This can go either way. But totally worth the look on her face. I owe you.
Emmy: Mama, you owe me nothing. She was out of pocket. Now, she knows better.
Jess, Penny, Walker, Emmy: Agreed
Devon: Eh… give it a day. She’s just reassessing her strategy. But I’m really am happy you all came. Maybe with you here—
Penny: Maybe, nothing. You will have a fabulous time, and be your usual carefree self. We, won’t allow it to be any other way. How quickly you forget; “we are too busy for petty things, and too damn big for smallness—”
Walker: And will stomp their well-heeled asses if they so much as look at us wrong. *group laughing*
Penny: Wawa!
Emmy: The Valley’s changed you and I’m here for it!
Devon: *still laughing* More like getting some good “d” on the regular has changed her! *group laughing*
Walker: *blushing* Oh, please! I’m ignoring you all—
Jess: Stop, teasing! I for one am happy to see pre-San Myshuno, pre-graduation, just crossed, Walker, again! *Walker rolls her eyes,
group laughing*
Walker: I didn’t mean that literally of course—
Devon: No backsies! I approve of this course of action! *wink*
Penny: *amused* See what you started. I’m holding you accountable *points at Walker* if we have homecoming repeat!
Walker: Me?! That was so not my fault! That one was totally on Dev and Emmy!
Emmy: I have no recollection of this event, so, hush.
Devon: Nope. None, whatsoever! *group laughing*
Jess: *taking in the scene* This whole trip is incredible already! I mean, this place, that flight…
Devon: Wait ‘til you see our rental!
Penny: You and your surprises. I don’t see why you couldn’t just send us the link to—
Devon: Because, I wanted to see your faces! Although, I doubt we’ll get the full effect after sunset.
Emmy: I don’t know; it’s still pretty early. And I somehow doubt they want us here much longer.
Devon: Carl and Davida are cool. Abel’s not too bad either, his wife Mia though … I don’t know… she runs hot and cold. I don’t know her friends—
Emmy: Blue hair, over there, is Olivia Parr; a Bella’s Secret model. The one with the bun is Zhi Ruo Jiang. She walked her first Sentate show last fall; real up-and-comers… All of them.
Devon: Makes sense…
Jess: In what way?
Devon: For us, this is a dream vacation. Sun, beach, good food, friends… but for them, for them it’s a networking event. Every sim you see there, has the potential to get them their next big gig or all the media coverage they can handle if they play their cards right. We may be chilling, but they’re on the audition of a lifetime.
