GALTx eNews: Join Us For The Great Global Greyhound Walk!

The Great Global Greyhound Walk is an annual dog-walking event that brings together greyhounds, lurchers, other sighthounds and their owners to raise awareness of the breeds and show the public just what wonderful pets they make. This year, GALT is participating by hosting walks in the Dallas, Albuquerque, and Austin areas on September 25th, 2022. We hope you can join us! If you don’t have a hound to walk, please feel welcome to join us anyway. But please use caution and common sense if you bring a small dog as many sighthounds see them more as lunch than dogs. And of course, leashes are absolutely required at all times for all dogs. 

If you’re in the Dallas area, meet at 10:00 am in the pavilion at Windhaven Meadows Park, 5400 Windhaven Parkway,  Plano, Texas, 75093. We’ll meet back at the pavilion after the walk.  Bring your own picnic lunch and plan to enjoy a great raffle that will benefit the GALT hounds too! If you have any questions about this walk, please email events@galtx.org. 

In the Albuquerque area, meet in Hyder Park at 700 Richmond Drive SE, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87106. Registration will begin at 10:00 am and the walk will begin at 11:00 am. We will be walking along the perimeter of the park or you can cut through the park to take a shorter walk. Don't forget to bring water for your hounds! This year’s color is red and early hounds get a free red flower for the girls and a red bowtie for the boys to commemorate the walk! After the walk, stay to enjoy a fun raffle with great prizes! We will also have a special treat at this year's walk! Purple Paw Pet Care will be onsite to perform care and hygiene services with 50% of the proceeds benefiting GALT New Mexico! Services available include nail clipping for $10, nail dremel for $15, ear cleaning for $10, toothbrushing for $15, and gland expressions $15. 

If you’re in the Austin area, you have two walks to choose from. We’ll meet in the San Gabriel Park in Georgetown and have the Limestone and Cattail Pavilions reserved from 9:00 to 11:00 am. We’ll also meet in McAllister Park in San Antonio and have the Al Becken Pavilion reserved from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Email info@galtx-centex.org for more information about these walks.

Great Global Greyhound Walk 2018! We had 12 hounds altogether and the weather cooperated nicely for our 3 mile walk. It was overcast and rainy though Rogue felt the humidity was too high for his liking. Here is a group photo, a photo of Rogue being used as a headrest, and chilling after the walk. :) @joejoetheracer!

The closest one to us is about 50 miles away but it looks like it'll be rainy and cooler so we're planning on going!

GALTx eNews: Join The Great Global Greyhound Walk! Please join us in Dallas, Austin, or Albuquerque on June 10th, 2018, for the Great Global Greyhound Walk! The Great Global Greyhound Walk is an annual dog-walking event that brings together greyhounds, lurchers, other sighthounds and their owners to raise awareness of the breeds and show the public just what wonderful pets they make. The 2017 walk broke records for participation and we want to help break them again this year! 

The walks are open to everyone regardless of where you got your hound or whether you even have a hound. You don't have to join anything, register anywhere or book in advance but we hope that you will register so that your participation can be counted and so that we know you're coming! Our Dallas walkers will meet at the Heritage Park Pavilion at the Botanical Gardens in Grapevine between 9:30 and 10:00 am. Click here for registration and more details about our Dallas walk, including contact information for our Dallas walk coordinator. 

Our Austin walkers will meet in front of the pavilion at Lake Pflugerville Park in Pflugerville. They will start walking at 9:00 am, so please be a few minutes early.
