Day 4: The Merriest Band of Misfits
@arcvmonth
Edit: So I misread the prompt and like was almost done with the story, and so, uhm, yeah.
Characters: Fuuma Hikage, Timmie Genshin Impact
He's falling.
A most obvious conclusion to come to when one feels the wind rushing all around them and the ground is nowhere to be found beneath their feet. Even so, he can still tell that whatever has happened to him, he's not where he needs to be.
The sky for one, is bright and sunny, opposed to the lava field he had been in, and the landscape is so very different. Rolling green hills and a crystal blue lake surrounding a city state. The ground is coming up fast and it is by some divine miracle that he rights himself in time to land in the water.
The swim to shore isn't far, thankfully, but now he's soaking wet and very much confused of where he is. Looking around, he spots a few sticks he can use to make a fire to dry himself by.
It is when he's removing his shirt when he hears a small voice call out to him.
"Who are you?"
Instinct drives him to reach for his sword, but Hikage pauses when he sees the owner of the voice. A child, probably not yet ten years old, holding a small paper bag. He's looking at him suspiciously, and the Fuuma ninja can't blame him. He's a stranger and his appearance doesn't quite scream 'native to this land'.
There are a few more awkward seconds of silence. One wet ninja and a small boy just staring at each other before Hikage lifts a hand in a small wave, "Uhm...Hikage."
The boy nods to himself as if he understands and comes closer, placing his bag down as he points to Hikage's fire. "You really shouldn't do that so close to Mondstadt. Miss Amber will get mad at you. Come on! I'm sure my mom can give you some dry clothes!"
He grins and holds out his hand as if he wants Hikage to take it, and then gasps as if he's remembered something. And then points to himself. "I'm Timmie, by the way!"
Grabbing his already dry mask, Hikage smiles and stands up, extending his own hand forward. "Nice to meet you." He follows the boy into the city where some of the locals barely give him a glance aside from a young girl who tugs at her mother's skirt and points at him. Hikage doesn't mind though, he's sure he looks strange to these people who are dressed in very Western style clothes.
Timmie leads in front until they stop in front one of the houses and tells him to wait outside for a moment. He nods and takes the opportunity to retie his mask but chooses to not cover his face just yet. No one knows him here, so there is no reason to put it back on just yet.
The door opens and he stands at attention and a kindly looking woman stands at the doorway with Timmie behind her. "Oh you poor dear. How did you manage to fall in the lake?"
"...Carelessness." A plausible answer. Believable.
She tilts her head as if she's thinking it over and then lets out a small chuckle. "Ah yes, it is a curse, isn't it. Now come in, I'm sure to find you something."
He gives a bow in gratitude and follows the small family inside and does his best to not drip too much all over the floor.
Timmie is sitting on an armchair, a book in his lap. watching him with wonder and then grins. "Hikage, Hikage, are you from uhm, Inu...no wait, let me check my book." He looks down at the page the book is open too and tries again. "Inazuma?"
The ninja has no idea where that is but figures its best to play along for the time being. "Yes. I'm just here for..."
"Are you here for the Genius Invocation TCG Tournament?!" the young boy suddenly grows excited, standing up so quickly that the book falls on to the floor with a very loud thud.
"Uhm...the what?" It's like a fire doused. And then rekindled because suddenly Timmie is running out of the room, and then back with a box in his hands, and suddenly Hikage finds cards being shoved into his hands. Surprised, he looks down at them and he studies the small portraits on them. In fine print, he can see each card has a description of what they do and he can't help but let out an amused huff of air.
"So like Duel Monsters but not..." he says quietly, studying a card that has brown haired girl printed on it. The name of the card identifies her as 'Amber' and he now has a pretty good assumption that this is the same Amber that Timmie had mentioned earlier. "How do you play?"
It was as if someone had told Timmie that it was his birthday today. "I'll teach you!"

Post canon fic featuring Sora, Yoko and Tsukikage.
Yuya and Yuzu were finally home. Sora began to slink away: all eyes were on the start of Yuya and Yusho’s duel, so it seemed he had a clear getaway.
A throat cleared behind him. He looked backwards, and up: Yoko was bearing down on him.
Sora was suddenly struck by the realisation that he had stayed at her house and eaten her food for weeks, and then left without a word.
He hadn’t really thought about it before. He’d been swept up - first with new orders from the Professor, then in helping his friends, then in piecing together what happened in the aftermath.
And he hadn’t really thought at the time, but he’d been using her, hadn’t he? He’d gone on a mission to Standard and taken the opportunity to do whatever looked interesting and eat whatever looked tasty. He’d not thought about the feelings of the people he’d met - beyond politeness and flattery - until he’d realised he was friends with Yuya and Yuzu, and he’d realised what that meant.
And Yoko said, sternly, “Dinner will be at seven o'clock sharp, young man.”
And then, with a smile and a wink, “And there’ll be mochi ice cream for dessert.”
He stood a moment in hesitation, before bowing.
“I’m sorry -”
“You don’t have to apologise to me!”
He swallowed. “I fought Yuya. In the Battle Royal.”
“I know. He told me.”
“I… If I’d won…”
Before the Junior Youth tournament, it hadn’t occurred to him that his new friends could choose the other side of the war. His entire experience was of people accepting Academia’s cause unquestioningly.
After the tournament, it had taken him time to realise he did still want to be friends. Seeing Yuzu knocked off the track in the Synchro Dimension cemented his need to protect her and Yuya.
But during the Battle Royale, when the disappointment and betrayal was fresh - he would have followed his training.
“If I’d won…” I would have carded the loser.
Yoko smiled proudly at her son, as he battled her husband. “You wouldn’t have won against my Yuya. And it doesn’t matter what could have happened.”
From the corner of his eye, Sora could see the two figures standing on the stadium wall. He knew they were waiting for him.
Should he tell Yoko what had happened? Even if it wasn’t her son, he had still carded a man. “But -”
“When Yuya told me you were gone, I told him to make you smile. To bring you back. Looks like he succeeded.”
Sora nodded. “Him and Yuzu.”
She ruffled his hair. “So you need to be at dinner, so you can tell me all about what happened!”
“But -” He glanced at the figures.
“Tell me at dinner! And then I’ll decide if you should apologise, and then I can properly forgive you.”
“I…”
Yoko Sakaki was bearing down on him with a shining smile and a steely determination.
He smiled back, weakly. “I’ll try to be there. But there’s something I promised to do now…”
The pair were still standing, watching, on top of the stadium wall. He hopped up a short distance from them, and approached with his arms open as a sign of surrender.
Tsukikage and Hikage had their hands at their disks, tensed and ready for action. But both stood still.
Sora bowed to Hikage. “I apologise for carding you.” It wasn’t much, but there was little else he could say.
Neither brother responded.
He turned to Tsukikage. “I said I’d let you do whatever you wanted once I’d fulfilled my promise.” Sora glanced at the stadium ground: Yuya and Yusho were in the middle of battle, while Yuzu was cheering for them from the crowd. “Yuzu is back home now, so… here I am.”
Hikage’s gaze turned to the other ninja.
Reiji-dono had told them both about the Battle Royal, the invasion and the war, so that they remembered and could make others remember.
Hikage himself remembered little, as his time had been cut short. To protect Hiiragi Yuzu and Serena he had battled a soldier from Fusion: Shiun'in Sora. He had lost.
He was oddly calm about his 'death'. It had been a fair duel, and he had to recognise Shiun'in as the victor.
But he could see Tsukikage’s rage at the memory of his demise. Others might not notice - the face-mask was designed to hide its wearer - but Hikage saw the fire burn in his brother’s eyes.
Reiji had continued, explaining the events in the Synchro Dimension. Hikage regretted that he had not been there: that he had not been able to support his brother when he needed it the most.
So now he deferred to the other ninja. This was Tsukikage’s vengeance, and he did not want to interfere.
Tsukikage did not often feel unsure.
He had been raised with an unwavering code of honour. A code followed by his clan for countless generations. A code that had always served him well: giving guidance on the path to take, and the resolve to follow that path.
A code that allowed no forgiveness.
Of course, the circumstance was strange. The code was clear on the matter of avenging death - but not what to do if the dead came back.
Tsukikage had seen his brother sealed in a card, and taken it to mean death. By interpreting it thus, he had implicitly sworn vengeance - and this vengeance had been delayed, but not forgotten.
And in the delay, Shiun'in had proven himself an excellent ally - strong in battle and loyal to his comrades. Tsukikage might have called him honourable, had he not known his actions before joining the Lancers.
But now that battle was over. His brother’s ‘death’ was over.
Never before had Tsukikage been so tempted to break his code, and call Shiun'in Sora his friend.
But the code allowed no forgiveness.
Tsukikage turned and surveyed Miaimi City for a long moment, then spoke.  "Yuzu is home. But there are still lurking dangers.
“The Doktor will have been unsealed from his card, the same as the other victims. Roger’s fate is unknown, so his survival is possible. And there are those who might target the incarnations of Zarc and Ray to harvest the vestiges of Arc V’s energy.”
He turned back to Shiun'in, the enemy soldier, the defector, his comrade. “Will you watch over Sakaki Yuya and Hiiragi Yuzu? Will you keep them from danger? Do you swear to guard them with your life?”
“Well, yeah?” replied Shiun'in, like it was obvious thing in the world.
Tsukikage nodded. “Then my grudge is sated for now.”
And then there was smoke and the ninjas made off - but as Tsukikage leapt away, he could hear Sora’s confused protest: “But I would do all that anyway!”
He briefly allowed himself a smile.
After dinner was over, Sora and Yuya had settled in front of the TV. Yusho was doing the washing up for the first time in three years.
Yoko wandered outside to have a chat with an inconspicuous shadow in the treetops. “You know I appreciate guests saying ‘hello’ before they start climbing my trees.”
Tsukikage - carefully perched to be hidden in the foliage - blinked down at her.
“But it sounds like you helped my son out a lot, so I suppose I can allow it this once.”
“I meant no intrusion,” said Tsukikage, “Reiji-dono wanted to ensure your family’s safety.”
“Well, he could have talked to us about it first,” Yoko sniffed.
And then she took a pace back, and a run forward, and leapt up the tree. She grabbed a branch and somersaulted on top of it, to sit next to the ninja.
She looked Tsukikage in the eye. “You should forgive Sora, you know.”
Tsukikage blinked again. “My grudge is sated. I will take no action against him.”
“There shouldn’t be a grudge any more. He’s just a child who was taught wrong.”
“I… ” Tsukikage looked down, back at the house. “I have done what my code allows me.”
“Your code?”
“The ancient code of the shinobi. The way of life for my clan.”
“Ah.” Yoko gave a knowing nod. “Are you sure you don’t want to come in? I have some spare dessert, if the boys haven’t got to it yet.”
“… My thanks, but no. Soon I must rejoin my brother in patrolling the city.”
“Well, fine.” She stretched her arms, rustling the leaves around them. “Don’t forget, we’ve all been reborn. The whole dimension. This is a time for new beginnings, and even ancient ninja codes can evolve.
“You need to forgive yourself for forgiving him.”
Tsukikage stared at her.
She leapt to the ground, then faced back up at him with a hand on her hip. “And don’t forget to come in for dinner next time! I can’t have guests out in the garden, getting hungry.”
Tsukikage stared down at her a moment more, before bowing his head. “Perhaps… next time.”

Lol! XD I really love how Hikage gets stuck with Reiji at the end. This is such a cute read. Great job!
#10 with the ninjas from arc v
arguably better than calling them “ninjabros” like I see SOME people refer to them
10.“yeah, okay, but I’m cooler.”
Reiji was going over the statistics for LDS, reading them aloud and having Reira read them back. The reason for the practice was so Reiji could hear the numbers back and make sure they were correct. Better than talking to a rubber duck, in their opinion.
“So,” Reiji said, going over the enrollment rate, “classes for Synchro Summoning are up 12%.”
“12% more Synchros…” Reira repeated, rubbing their eyes.
Reiji scrolled down. “However, Fusion classes are down 15%.”
“15% less…” Reira yawned quietly. “Fusions.”
“Reira,” Reiji said calmly, looking down to Reira seated next to them, “do you think it’s time you go to bed?” There was no time to wonder why Himika didn’t handle this sort of thing, but. If Reira was arguably Reiji’s responsibility more than Reira’s mother, so be it.
Reira nodded, sleepily.
“Tsukikage, Hikage,” Reiji stated into the intercom, the two brothers quickly showing up. “Reira needs to sleep. Take them to their room at home.”
The brothers agree, watching Reira walk over. They ended up taking Tsukikage’s hand, to the dismay of Hikage. “It appears Reira-dono has chosen me again, brother.”
Hikage nodded, despite his disapointment. “Yes, okay, but Reira-dono believes I am cooler.”
“Sure,” Tsukikage replied, teleporting off with Reira.
Reiji looked up to Hikage, the two staring at each other a bit. As Hikage was about to leave as well, Reiji spoke up. “Since you’re here, you can help me with this.
Again, defeated, Hikage agreed. “So which numbers are up this quarter?”

If you got yourself a partner and Hikage got himself a partner, how awkward would it be to go on a double date with him?
Tumblr media
I wouldn’t think it would be a very big deal. Anija and I are used to each other’s presence so it wouldn’t affect us at all.
Wait...
Tumblr media
As far as dating goes...I don’t see it being very fun for our respective dates. We Fuuma tend to be very somber and quiet...so maybe a bit awkward for them?

Super sorry to intrude like this, but I just keep being curious about your Tsukikage and Hikage hcs, so... if you'd be willing to share some of them, I'd be the most grateful person ever O.O
MY BABIES!
Hikage prefers mint tea over green tea, while Tsukikage does not favor one over the other (to him it’s just tea).
Both are early risers, but Tsukikage is not a morning person at all. He goes through his morning katas half-asleep and is fully awake after a 5 km run.
Hikage can play the shakuhachi really well.
They both practice calligraphy more out of obligation than a hobby, but Hikage enjoys it.
Their last names are most definitely Fuuma, fight me.

Day 8: Reunion
                                                 Like a Shadow
Rated: T Characters: Fuuma Tsukikage, Fuuma Hikage Summary: The war is over and his brother is finally at his side again.
The sun is the first thing he sees when he wakes. It’s blinding, harsher than he remembers and he collapses onto the ground, his legs feeling way too weak to keep him upright. Everything feels...strange to to him. Foreign. Almost as if he hasn’t been moving in a while.
The last thing he remembers is a field of lava, a green-eyed Duelist as his opponent, and the screams of another calling out that person’s name. He gasps and struggles to get back on his feet, but something...someone holds him down.
“Anija...it’s all right, you’re safe now!” it’s a voice he recognizes. The teenager ceases his movements and slowly opens his eyes, still mindful of the sun that is shining so brightly down at them. It takes a few moments, but he knows who is holding him. His mirror, his shadow, his brother...
“Tsukikage..?”
Tsukikage’s blue eyes are brimming with tears as he nods, his hand firmly clasping Hikage’s. It’s been weeks since he had been turned into a card and Tsukikage had long thought his brother had been killed. No one knew what happened to those who had turned into cards, and many had already assumed the worst. “Anija...I'm sorry. I know it is our clan’s law but...I couldn’t...I almost sought vengeance for you. I couldn’t...”
It’s a lot to take in, but Hikage only rests his hand on Tsukikage’s clothed cheek. No words come from his mouth, but in his own way, Hikage is telling him that it’s all right. “Anija...”
“Don’t cry, Tsukikage. You’re going to...” it’s too late, there are tears in his own eyes too. The two shinobi embrace and silently cry together, sun and moon, a shadow of the other and yet the other’s light. As it should be.

Ninjabro Headcanon time!
They both like cats but Hikage is allergic to them, so Tsukikage goes around town, taking pictures of all the neighborhood cats to show his brother.
Hikage also has a lot of kitty plushies in his room.
No one but Tsukikage knows this.

Mechanic Doll
Rated: T+ Characters: Fuuma Hikage, Shiunin Sora Summary: Sora visits Hikage’s cell to ask him how he’s doing. (A dark AU where instead of being turned into cards, prisoners of the Fusion Dimension become ‘battery generators’ for Akaba Leo’s machines)
The sound of a candy wrapper being crinkled is the first thing he hears when he wakes. Slowly, he raises his head, the metal wires attached to the base of his neck creaking slightly. He hates the feeling of it, the cold steel and plastic chafing away at his flesh. The temptation to scream is always lingering but he’s learned that screaming only makes it hurt more. He’s learned that begging only incites cruel snickering from his captors.
Fuuma Hikage’s only wish now is to die. It sickens him to feel this way, but death feels like a welcome thing now.
“Hurts doesn’t it?” a voice calls out to him so thinly veiled with honey that he wants to cringe, but is unable to. Instead, Hikage’s eyes blink wearily at the blue-haired Academia duelist who is nonchalantly sucking on a piece of candy. Shiu...nin Sora....
“How does it feel to be part of Akaba Leo’s plans?” Sora raps the machine with his knuckles, a wicked leer curling his lips at the metallic echo the machine makes. “Impressive, if I do say so myself. Hard to imagine all this was done in just three years, right?” He gestures to the hall behind him, where other identical machines are whirring and clicking. All of them are attached to someone who once took pride in their dueling prowess.
Men, women, children. All from the Xyz Dimension. Beyond his cell, Hikage knows of five more that come from Standard. His world. And here in the Fusion Dimension, they have all been reduced to living experiments for Akaba Leo’s mad amusement. In his own way, the ninja is grateful that his little brother is still safe. But for how long?
Sora continues talking about how the duelists here will all help with fusing all the worlds into one and how Xyz and Standard are merely stepping stones for it to happen. “In the end, Fusion will be the true world and the true Summoning method. Everything else should just fall on their knees and accept it. Don’t you agree, ninja-chan~?”
“...” he cannot speak, his vocal chords still raw from days of screaming as he was being hooked up to a generator and being left to adjust to the mechanical gears now running down his back, piercing flesh and bone. His eyes have long since dulled and there are tear tracks staining his cheeks. His mask had been ripped from him, as was all his armor, leaving him bare from the waist up. His hands are hung to his sides, a needle strung to his left forearm to provide him with nutrients to keep him alive.
The blue-haired duelist tsks and slaps Hikage hard across the face before yanking the ninja’s hair down so they’re face to face. “Well? Answer me, ninja trash.” His green eyes are filled with hatred and it makes him want to curl up out of fear. Another slap, a little softer than the first, but still painful enough to sting.
Hikage’s throat strains as he tries to talk. He can feel his voice box rattling when he opens his mouth and emanates a raspy hiss. “Ffffool...issh.” The idea was madness. Each Summon was special, none where inferior or superior to the other. It didn’t matter what method a duelist used, as long as they were smiling and having fun. That’s what he believed in. That is what he had been taught by his Clan.
Your duty is to see your job through, Hikage. But ,most importantly, you and your brother should enjoy yourselves, as children should.
Cracking down hard on the lollipop in his mouth, Sora stares at the prisoner for a moment, and drops his hold on Hikage’s hair. Turning to leave, he looks back over his shoulder with one more spiteful remark. “I’ll be back soon. Maybe this time I’ll bring your brother down here too.” He walks away, unwrapping yet another sweet to snack on, his footsteps echoing loudly amidst the moans and cries of pain and despair.
Hikage’s head drops to stare at the floor, gnashing his teeth. Tsukikage was strong. He wasn’t suited for a place like this and it was Hikage’s job to protect him. Protect his flesh and blood. He was certain that the others here had done the same for their loved ones, for their homes. And he’ll be damned if the Fusion Dimension were to win this war.
While there was no hope for him in this place, Hikage was certain that Akaba’s son, Reiji, would foil the madman’s plans. He had that child by his side after all. And Akaba Reiji had been adamant that that child would be the one to save them all.
Sakaki Yuuya of the Pendulum.

Settling the Score
Rated: K Characters: Hikage, Serena, Tsukikage Summary: “If I win, you take off your mask.” A nod was all she needed for his consent. “Then let’s begin.” AU
The current score between them was 5-4 in his favor. Serena, being every bit of a competitor, did not like it one bit. Rolling back her Academia uniform sleeves, she stared up at the sign for the Fuuma Duel School, determined to challenge the red ninja to another game. This time, for sure, she would win and even out the score.
“Yosh.” Slapping her cheeks to prepare herself, she began making her way through the winding stony path that led up to the school. Once the building came to view, she turned and went towards the right. Another path lay beyond that, leading to the Fuuma house where the two brothers resided.
She found the younger brother, Tsukikage, outside watering plants. Although out of his usual uniform, his mask was still very present. He seemed surprised to see her trudging up the pathway and he set his watering can down to come greet her. “Hello, Serena-san. What brings you here today?”
Serena wasn’t looking at him, instead she kept her eyes trained on the plants he had just been watering. “I did not think of you to be a gardener.” Shrugging, he bent down to examine a flower bud.
“A hobby of mine. I take it that you’re here to see anija?” When she nodded, he straightened himself up and motioned for her to follow him into the house. “Anija’s currently up at the school finishing his training for the day. He won’t be long.”
“And you weren’t part of that training today, ninja?”
“I gave him today off.” Serena rolled her eyes and sighed. Of course he’d show up now. She turned around to see Hikage standing there in a relaxed pose.
“Anija! Welcome back.” It was hard to tell if Tsukikage had smiled, but given the way his eyes crinkled up, he probably did.
“Mm. So to what do we owe this visit, Serena?” Hikage asked her. It was a formality. He knew why she was here.
Pointing a finger at him, she said, “I challenge you to a game, ninja.”
“What kind?”
Serena reached into her pocket and pulled out a deck of normal playing cards. He raised an eyebrow at this. In the past, she had always challenged him to a duel. “We’ll be playing Bullshit.”
Next to her, Tsukikage made an odd choking sound and he excused himself to go back inside the house. Loud laughter echoed through the doorway he had disappeared through.
Hikage, however, merely blinked at her use of foul language. “I have not heard of this game.”
“Can we go inside; I’ll explain there.” he nodded and allowed her to go inside first.
Tsukikage was nowhere to be found but he had had enough sense to set out the guest slippers for her. After removing her shoes, she followed Hikage to the living room and sat down on the couch. He took a seat on the closest ottoman and waited for her to explain the rules.
“It’s a game about who’s the better liar,” she was already shuffling the cards in her hand. “I will deal the cards and then you will start from the Ace, I’ll go next and place a two. And on an on until one of us has an empty hand.”
“That doesn’t seem like much of a challenge, Serena.” He really didn’t understand. How exactly was lying involved in this game?
Clearing her throat, she continued. “You can place any numbers down, it doesn’t have to be the one. Like if it’s my turn to set down a seven, but I don’t have any? I can easily place down a Queen and call it a seven. However, since there’s only two of us, you will catch on pretty quick. To call my bluff, you say ‘Bullshit’ and I will have to reveal the card I placed down. Since it was a lie, I will have to take the entire discard pile to my hand. However, if it’s the truth, you’ll take the entire pile. Understand now?” She finally stopped shuffling the cards and tapped them against the table to straighten the cards out.
“Yes. What are your terms?”
“If I win, you take off your mask.” A nod was all she needed for his consent. “Then let’s begin.”
Her eyes never left his as she dealt the cards out. Once she finished, they both picked up their respective pile and fanned them out.
“Who goes first?” She blinked and pointed at him with her pinkie finger. “Understood.” He currently had 3 aces in his hand, so he carefully selected two of them and set them on the table. “Two aces.”
“One two.”
On it went until it came his turn again for Jacks, which he had none of. Keeping a poker face, he placed down his third ace.
“One Jack.”
And she grinned. “Bullshit.”
And so it went for most of the afternoon until finally only a single card was left in Serena’s hands. Hikage had won and he was sitting back in his seat, arms folded behind his head.
“Fine, I lost. Do your worst.” she pouted. He was quiet for a long moment, looking thoughtful. “Well?”
“Hmm. Do you really want to see my face so badly?” She nodded and he looked away, almost shyly. “Well, the rules you set did say that the loser had to do anything the winner wanted.” He stood up and moved closer to her. “Close your eyes.”
“Wh-”
“I promise I won’t do anything. Just close them.”
Giving him a distrustful look, she sighed and closed her eyes like he had instructed. She heard the sound of rustling cloth and then a warm feeling settled on her mouth. Gasping, she reeled back, covering her mouth. “Y-you!”
Hikage was already adjusting his mask back in place and he chuckled. “Thank you for the game, Serena. I look forward to your next challenge.”

Tsukikage is more polite than Hikage. So he’s the one that uses honorifics. Hikage doesn’t unless it’s someone that’s hired him. i.e: The Akabas.
