Answering Quick Questions Related To Funeral Etiquettes
The funeral is always the most complicated event to attend as people are often unsure and clueless about funeral etiquette and several other things like attendance, condolences, gifts, attire, etc. Experts in funeral services can guide you, and the fact is that funeral services directors are always on standby to answer all your questions related to funeral etiquette to help you stay organic and comfortable at the event. Some common questions you can ask funeral services directors about funeral etiquette are reviewed here.
WHAT IS THE RIGHT TIME TO ARRIVE AT FUNERAL SERVICES?
Arriving half an hour earlier than the scheduled time is always a good idea as you will have enough time to park your vehicle comfortably, make some quick updates on your look and attire and join the service by selecting the appropriate seating and settling yourself.
WHAT DO I DO WHEN I ARRIVE A FUNERAL?
As you enter the funeral venue, the first step is to sign the condolence book if the funeral services directors provide it. You must put your name there and remember it is not an autograph. You must also leave a quick condolence message of a maximum of one or two sentences, including your name and explaining your connection with the deceased.
WHAT TO SAY TO PEOPLE AT FUNERAL SERVICES?
It is always challenging to determine the right words to say to those already sad and grieving. However, offering compassion and grief is necessary, and the most straightforward messages you can convey are presented below.
Some simple phrases of comfort include:
I’M SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.
YOU ARE IN MY THOUGHTS.
YOU ARE IN MY PRAYERS.
HE/SHE WAS A WONDERFUL PERSON.
I WILL MISS HIM/HER.
THIS MUST BE HARD FOR YOU.
I AM HERE FOR YOU.’
WHERE SHOULD I SIT AT THE EVENT?
This is a crucial point, and you must be very careful about this as most front rows are reserved for immediate family members and closest relatives or friends. Close friends are seated behind the family, and work colleagues are on the backside. You can determine your relationship with the deceased and select suitable seating before the event begins.
WHAT ABOUT CLICKING SOME PHOTOGRAPHS AT THE FUNERAL EVENT?
It is generally considered insensitive to click photographs or selfies at the funeral event. Funeral service directors recommend refraining from clicking images and, particularly, selfies at the funeral ceremony.

What can I say. It was a year.
1. What did you do in 2021 that you hadn’t done before? Started learning Spanish, bought a house at auction, touched a dinosaur skeleton, had laser hair removal. 2. Did anyone close to you give birth? Not this year. 3. Did anyone close to you die? My grandmother died in September, and because of the general ‘everything is fucked-ness’ at the time, I couldn’t go to NSW for her funeral. It was the second year in a row this happened after my grandfather died last year, and I’m not really sure I’ve processed any of the emotions properly yet. 4. Did you travel? Where did you go? Best holiday memory? Had a staycation in Melbourne CBD in April – does that count? Hahahahahah. Every other travel plan we had this year got cancelled because of lockdowns. It’s fine. Totally fine. 5. Best thing you bought? Our new house!! 🏡 And a new TV, which meant that the old TV became the bedroom TV which has been LIFE CHANGING. 6. Where did most of your money go? I feel like our Australia Post delivery man was at our house twice a week all year long and yet I can hardly remember anything I bought this year. Anyway, most of my money went to the bank for our house deposit 😭 7. What do you wish you had done more of? Listening to music. My last.fm/Spotify stats were very sad this year. 8. What do you wish you had done less of? Idk, watching the news? I always felt better when I disengaged from the daily terror updates. 9. What kept you sane? Constantly having a TV project on the go to fill in the endless hours stuck at home. 10. What drove you mad? All the usual suspects – anti-vaxxers, anti-lockdown protestors, fuckwits on the internet… 11. What made you celebrate? Getting vaccinated! Melbourne and Penrith winning the AFL and NRL premierships was pretty exciting as well. 12. What made you sad? Another year of cancelled/postponed events and all the associated joy they bring…not being able to see Hamilton in Sydney, not being able to go on our consolation high country weekend, all the festivals - RISING, the Writer’s Fest, Open House Melbourne…and when I had to find a new hairdresser after my hairdresser of almost 20 years revealed himself to be a giant anti-vaxxer baby and refused to reopen his salon because he didn’t want to comply with the vax mandate. 13. How was your birthday this year and how old did you turn? It was on a Monday and we were out of lockdown at that point (lol) so I went to work in the office, where we had cake and a few people took me out for lunch. Celebrated over the weekend by going to see Lano & Woodley on the Friday night, and had a delicious meal at Tonda Italian on Saturday night. I turned 37. 14. What political issue stirred you the most this year? Every single political issue this year just made me want to run away into the hills and never come back. 15. Were you in love in 2021? Always!! 🥰 16. What would you like to have in 2022 that you didn’t have this year? A normal year? Where you can make plans? And think about the future? And not wither away in your home? 17. What date(s) from 2021 will be etched in your memory and why? 6th of August, when we were meant to go away on a long weekend and instead went into lockdown for 11 weeks. 18. What song will remind you of 2021? That fucken Elton John/Dua Lipa song that I cannot escape. And Take My Breath by The Weeknd. 19. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I still haven’t made a will 🙈 It’s still on the to-do list though. I also want to read all the books I’ve bought before I buy any new ones 😂 20. Did you suffer illness or injury? I completely fucked my back in August, to the point where I couldn’t move without extreme agony. Had to go to the physiotherapist approximately 400 times to sort it out. I guess this is middle age. 21. Compared to this time last year, are you: i. happier or sadder? Happier! Because I never have to deal with real estate property managers again, or go to another open house or auction unless it’s for fun or to gawk. ii. thinner or fatter? About the same I think. iii. richer or poorer? Poorer because I now have two mortgages hahah. Being a property mogul is an expensive business 😂 22. How will you be spending Christmas? Going down to Portarlington tomorrow for 2 weeks, so Christmas Day will be spent at the holiday house eating too much food. The rest of the time will be taken up with swimming, watching TV, playing board games and generally trying to relax/switch off from this shitshow of a year haha. 24. What was your favourite TV program? Call My Agent!, The Newsreader, Hacks, this season of GBBO, Succession, Only Murders in the Building, Line of Duty. Also rewatched A LOT of shows, including the Americans, which was even more devastating the third time around. 25. What was the best book you read? I adored All Our Shimmering Skies by Trent Dalton, as well as The Weekend by Charlotte Wood. 26. What was your greatest musical discovery? I honestly can’t think of any this year. 27. What did you want and get? Those gold Gucci shoes I wanted last year hahah. 28. What did you want and not get? To go on a plane somewhere 😢 29. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2021? I don’t even know if I could call what I wore “fashion” this year. It was basically the same three pairs of tracksuit pants in rotation with a variety of jumpers. 30. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Chigs from Bake Off, Assaad Bouab and Camille Cottin, the Hot Umpire. 31. Biggest achievement this year? Growing a strawberry on our strawberry plant at home 🍓 32. Biggest disappointment this year? When Dale and Tim didn’t end up together on The Newsreader. 33. What is the one thing that would have made you more satisfied? If Dale and Tim had got together on The Newsreader. 34. Best new person you met this year? I got some good new work colleagues this year but they don’t really count. 35. A valuable life lesson you learnt this year? DIY mouse traps are a waste of time when you have a mouse at home, so just pay some guys to come and plug all the gaps in the house and fill it with poison 🤷🏼♀️

Two Different Kinds of Funerals and Their Inclusions
Families are different in their financial position, cultural thoughts, religious practices, etc. and this means that it is very obvious for them to have different views related to life’s last ceremony. This also means that some may look for an extravagant function, whereas some would look for budget funerals Sydney options present with budget funerals firms. In this post, we discuss two different kinds of funerals offered by budget funerals firms and how they can be used by people having financial constraints.
“Traditional” Full-Service Funeral
Direct Burial
“Traditional” Full-Service Funeral
According to the experts, this is the most common or in other words, the traditional option given by budget funerals firms.
This version often includes –
A viewing or visitation
Formal funeral service
Use of a hearse to transport the body to the funeral site and cemetery
Burial
Entombmen
Cremation of the remains
Experts reveal it to be the most expensive version, but those having limited budget, can talk to the service provider on how to avail them under the tag of budget funerals Sydney.
The reason behind this being expensive is that other than the general expenses, there is –
Funeral home's basic services fee
Costs of embalming and dressing the body
Rental of the funeral home for the viewing or service
Use of vehicles to transport the family if they don't use their own
The costs of a casket, cemetery plot or crypt and other funeral goods and services
Direct Burial
In this service, the body is buried shortly after death and it is usually in a simple container.
This means that there is nothing like viewing or visitation, embalming.
Similarly, a memorial service is held, but it is usually at the graveside or later.
Experts say that this is a "budget funerals" in true sense as the experts try and make it as frugal as possible.

meredith halloran
30 | sailing master of the scallywag | eleanor tomlinson
give your heart and soul to charity
'cause the rest of you
the best of you
honey, belongs to me
ain't it a gentle sound, the rolling in the graves?
ain't it like thunder under earth, the sound it makes?
ain't it exciting you, the rumble where you lay?
tl;dr: local rich girl's fiance "dies at sea". she thinks her father did it. she decides to go after revenge. fakes her death, takes her "dead" fiancé's last name, becomes a pirate.
tw: child abuse, implied murder, faked death
meredith halloran was not born with that name. she was born to another name with an altogether different fate-- meredith molloye, the only child of the best mapmaker in penrith. a name that promised comfort and ease and constraints that pressed down on her on all sides, digging in like the ribs of a corset strung too tight. it was a name that came with expectations-- to be witty (but not too witty), to be clever (but not so clever as to make men feel stupid), to be charming (but not so charming as to be seen as loose).
it was a name that came with a marriage arranged before she could truly remember, to her father's apprentice. it came with a boy with dark hair and kind eyes who stumbled over his words when she smiled at him, who liked her fire and who debated with her late into the night. it came with kisses snuck in dark corners and hands held tight. the problem, dear reader, was not a lack of love. it was a lack of freedom, a lack of choice. for as much as the boy loved meredith's fire, loved her sharp tongue and quick wit, these were not traits of a proper penrith wife. they were traits that left her with bruises on her cheeks from the back of her father's hand, with tears that stung at her eyes at her mother's admonishments.
the problem was that her heart sang with the crash of waves. the problem was that she was a better sailor than half of her father's crew, than even her father. the problem was her father showed her how to find her ways using the stars, showed her how to sketch a map, how to plot a course, and then expected her to not use it. the problem was that the sailing master of her father's ship had taught her everything he knew (before her father found out and fired him, of course). the problem was that when the girls at the dock flirted with her, she flirted back and when they kissed in alleyways, her heart fluttered the same way it fluttered for her fiance.
then one day her father sent her fiance on his first expedition alone. and then her fiance never came back, and with him died her heart. she was told that he got sick and died at sea, but she didn't believe that for a second. she wasn't sure if it was because the sailors wouldn't meet her eyes or because she saw the money that exchanged hands between her father and another member of the crew, or how he suddenly had a new apprentice from a better family, whose marriage to her would thrust them up in the world. all she knew was that her father had murdered her love, and she would get her revenge.
it was surprisingly easy, faking her own death. all it took was a sad letter, a cliff, and a torn dress with stones in the skirts. she cut her hair, just for good measure. she waited until after her own funeral--an overly dramatic affair considering her father had only just barely tolerated her in life, if she said so herself. then she snuck into her old home, stole a set of clothes from her father's new apprentice and as many of her father's maps and map-making supplies as she could fit in her bag and as much gold as she could fit in her pockets.
when she finally got to veritas, she found a ship in need of a navigator. she passed her father's work off as her own and when they asked for her name she said, with a smile as sharp as a knife, "meredith halloran. pleased to meet you."

So I took this photo the night before I found out my bone biopsy results - with all fear and acceptance in mind it was pointing to cancer.
OK - so first I want to apologize to a whole lot of people for being weird, distanced, and hard to reach for these past few months. On the 26th of March I had a chest CT for bringing up black and blood from smoking for too long. The results showed an incidental bone lesion on my 12th right rib stretching across the bone 9/10cm. From there the first diagnosis was Fibrous Dysplasia (Benign) to Chrondroid Lesion/ Chrondrosarcoma (Malignant/cancer.) At that - there was a whole lot of Dr Google, a wheelbarrow full of fear and a whole lot of why me.
Next I was sent for a MRI on my thoracic spine. The radiologist upfront said the need for contrast was unlikely. After the preliminary scan he looked forlorn and said there was a need for contrast. There was a long wait after the scan in the waiting room before I was told my CT results and films will need to be requested and sent to specific specialists. Three long weeks of worry ensued after being told I would have the results within a week.
Gigs continued after a brief pause - A lot was running through my head and I was struggling to deal with it, but I was chewing through my savings and realized I gotta’ get by somehow through all this. Bills don’t stop for the sick unfortunately, gas, electricity, rates, phone, food, pet food, water, petrol, car insurance, netflix, spotify etc and with no family besides my sister now, there is no one else to help.
Lone - to the entirety of the definition.
I was on the phone every second day checking after the first week. No one could tell me why my report and results weren’t in yet… Upon the results coming in - I was called that afternoon from the Doc after checking again that morning. When I arrived they said my lesion was highly suspicious and from both scans looked malignant. Chrondrosarcoma/Osteosarcoma. I was given a letter and told to present to the hospital, not tomorrow - that night. My sister was back in Denmark so I stacked up the food for the dog and the cat, left a key in a spot in the odd chance I couldn’t come back straight away and drove the 2 hours in sick thoughts to Penrith.
The ER was packed that night. It was the Friday before the Easter long weekend and every kid and their broken bone was parked. Flu season was unfortunately prime. There must have only been 3 empty seats and the music of crying babies only added to the unfortunate awareness I, myself was severely not okay. For 5 hrs I waited after prelim, googling how bone cancer is near impossible to treat, a wide resection is the only option and they need to take an extra large amount around the lesion in order to stop re-occurrence which is very high. Bone cancer is resistant to chemotherapy and radiotherapy and those of whom resection has failed had slim odds. 5 years. I might get 5 years. Mine was going into my T12 on my spine. Was I going to end up in a chair? Would it be better to be in a chair and alive than not and dead? It was a tsunami of horror and I was on the beach alone, waiting.
I got called in just after 12am. I sat there for an hour and a half as I was quizzed about everything. Every little life detail. They tried to get the Neurosurgeon to come in that night. He was unavailable and with much hesitation and persistence on my part they let me leave with the promise to still return as early as possible the next morning. The doctor who had played 50 questions with me was not happy but her superior said it would be fine and let me go without a release letter - but with a list of instructions to state to the ER in the morning upon arrival.
I was called the next morning at 8am after getting home at 4am. They said the Neurosurgeon had reviewed all my scans. I was to have another MRI on my lumbar, which went smoothly. I didn’t want another injection and there was no need for the Gadolinium/Contrast. He said they only need to use that when they find lesions. - Great.
Next up was the bone scan. Another injection of radiation. My sister had booked a flight back from Denmark and had come to join me. We ate sushi and drank coffee between the delayed scans; one was early morning, the other afternoon - as the radiation found its way into my bones. I got my scans that day. It was interesting to see my skeleton in its entirety. I had no idea what the scan would show. A massive shout out here to my friend Love-Amrit Singh. I game with him online and he’s not only a dentist but a truly caring friend. He helped me decipher bits and pieces throughout this ordeal and on that day explained to me the darker patches show uptake and that the rest of my skeleton looked clear - if it was bone cancer - it hadn’t yet spread around my body.
The neurosurgery team relayed the same results at the next appointment. I was then sent for a PET scan. (Cancer staging/spread.)
These are not fun. No one can stay in the room with you while the injection is given, you’re just that radioactive. It comes out of a tube in the wall and then you gotta’ drink a cup of nasty tasting shit every 15 minutes while you lay in a lead lined fancy private room on a bed watching TV with life/funeral insurance ad’s playing repetitively in breaks. Why didn’t I take out a policy before my first CT I kept thinking, at least my sister would be looked after.
PET scan results showed no other uptake except at my 6th rib in a small patch. I was to be discussed again at both thoracic cage cancer meetings as well as the neuro teams. Per chance localized spread.
At this point my journey with the Neurosurgery team seemed to be over. I was referred to the same specialist that did my Mothers lung biopsy. It was truly strange to see this doctor again, know the exact locations and faces. He reviewed my PET scan, said it didn’t look great. Fibrous Dysplasia runs along the bone, this doesn’t. I was sent for a rib bone biopsy.
Painful. Very painful. I have a very high tolerance to anything; anything explicit, alcohol, local anesthetic, you name it. I’ve been looked at and judged in every situation. Dentist chairs have always been a nightmare. However, it just doesn’t seem to work on me. I felt it all. In four days I would have results. It was a real battle to just keep on keepin’ on.
When my name was called I walked into the room convinced one bit of bad news led to another, however by some miracle the preliminary bone biopsy results favoured Fibrous Dysplasia. Ah, those silent tears. Months of thinking my days were no longer mine, that all I’ve worked, built and created was for exactly what? However; then the next part… I was given a hospital admissions form. I’m to have my whole 12th right rib removed entirely. Within the next 30 days. That was 10 or so days ago. Still waiting for the call.
Just so grateful for another chance and to lay it all out for these ageing dreams I'm mixing up a new coat of paint to not just slap on.
I wrote a song recently when I thought my time was up. It was a write it as you wake, record it same day kinda deal. You can find it on my soundcloud if you haven't heard it and it interests you. Just google me.

Factors to Consider While Choosing the Right Urn
When a family member passes away, the family has to engage in multiple things single handedly. The members have to mourn, attend to the guests coming to the home and at the same time, make arrangements for the last ceremony or funeral. In this situation, the services of funeral directors are mandatory, as they take the burden of arranging the funeral ceremony away from your shoulders.
They are the experts in their field and, right from the beginning to the end, ensure that everything is executed as per the family's traditions and religious beliefs. The most crucial process, where they help in selecting the suitable urn for storing the ashes after the cremation. This is a daunting experience, but they will help you choose the suitable urn and celebrate the life that the deceased lived.
Things to Consider While Choosing Your Urn
The Use
Before deciding about the final urn, you should consider how you will use it. If you plan to display it at your home, funeral directors recommend choosing something worth displaying. As a part of funeral director services, they will help you select a specific design, material, size and urn that has better overall aesthetics. If you wish to bury it, then you can compromise on the design or looks. You can also choose urns made from biodegradable materials.
Funeral Material and Design
The first pointer above will be crucial in selecting the material and design. There are several materials available in terms of urns, and again, whether you want to keep it or home or bury it will be decisive. These urns used at funerals can be made up of wood, natural stone, steel, glass or ceramic, and as said above, the design is your personal decision. If you wish to keep it at your home, funeral directors' Sydney services allow you to get unique customisation done as per your family's religious belief or the wishes of the deceased.
The Size
Funeral urns offered by funeral directors services come in different sizes ranging from small to medium and large sizes. The size relies on factors like the height and weight of the deceased, and your funeral director would be the right person to help you determine the correct size. They will use their experience and body assessment to decide whether or not you require a small urn or something larger. In most cases, a medium to large-sized urn is ideal based on the average size of the people living in Australia. However, if any uncertainty is there, you should not mind contacting the funeral director before purchasing and asking for help in choosing an appropriate urn.

Why People Prefer Pet Cremation Over Burial These Days?
Regarding human funerals, people are swiftly shifting from burial to cremation methods due to low-cost availability and less risk for our nature. The same trend is witnessed in animal funerals as well because people are opting for cheap pet cremation rather than burial. There are several reasons behind this, and we explore some in this post today.
LESS PHYSICAL SPACE IS CONSUMED
The most significant reason people prefer cremation over burial is that cremation consumes much less space than burial. In the burial process, a separate plot has to be purchased at a cemetery as the animal’s resting place after its death. But this is not easy in the modern world, where we are quickly running out of cemetery space globally. On the other hand, by opting for cheap pet cremation in Campbelltown, you ensure that the body is disposed of at the crematorium. The ashes are returned to you in a beautiful urn that you can handle the way you want.
NOT TIED TO ONE GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION
Another feature of that cremation is that the pet owner will not stay tied to one geographic location for disposing of the body. Regardless of where you are in Campbelltown, you can avail pet cremation services from a reputed vet cremation agency.
IT IS A MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY OPTION
This is also a significant reason people are going for cremation over burial. Cremation is an energy-efficient and eco-friendly option, but only if embalming is skipped completely. During the cremation process, the body is disposed of completely without a casket or a coffin and several other time and money-consuming approaches.
COST-EFFICIENCY
Pet cremation is a cost-effective process compared to burial, and this factor also plays a significant role in pet cremation’s popularity. During the burial process, several other services have to be organised, and they consume a lot of time and money. But this is not the case with cremation, as the body can be sent directly to the crematorium and disposed of without any services or expenses.
