These past few years, I have become a huge advocate for feeding fresh food to dogs to enhance their lives. However, you don't exactly have to transition your dog to a 100% fresh food diet in order to gain the benefits of fresh food.
Simply adding fresh food to your dog's kibble can go a long way in improving their nutrition and overall health. For instance, one study done a group of dogs in 2005 revealed that feeding vegetables just three times a week had significantly lowered their risk of developing cancer, compared to dogs who were only fed kibble.
Asian markets, in particular, have some very beneficial fresh food items that aren't typically found at your local grocery store. These food items, however, are not intended to fully replace your dog's food. Remember - too much of something good can be bad for you.
Instead, they should be offered in moderation as treats, or just small amounts topped over an already complete and balance meal. As a general rule of thumb, treats/toppers should never make more than 10% of your dog's overall diet.
Tumblr media
Bok choy (Chinese cabbage) is full of essential vitamins and minerals needed to support a dog’s eyesight, cardiac function, digestion, bone strength, and immunity. Sulfurophane - a compound found in bok choy and other cruciferous vegetables - has been linked to inhibiting cancer cell growth, lowering blood pressure, and activating the nuclear factor Nrf2 which prevents the development of diabetes and its complications. Bok choy’s low calorie, high fiber content also make it a good option for a snack/food topper for dogs who need to control their weight.
Preparation: Lightly steam or boil for better nutrient absorption. Cooking will also help neutralize the enzyme (myrosinase) that can decrease thyroid function. You should also chop/trim their long leaves to avoid choking hazards.
Tumblr media
Goji berries (wolfberries) are rich in amino acids, carotenoids which support healthy vision, and polyphenols that have anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and cardio-protective properties. Studies on goji berry supplementation in animals have shown that it has the potential to help lower cholesterol, protect the liver by increasing hepatic antioxidant activity, as well as enhance metabolic homeostasis and prevent diabetes-induced renal inflammation.
Preparation: Remove stems if still attached and cut/mash berries. If dried, soak in water until softened to avoid passing straight through the GI tract and losing the benefits of its nutrients.
Tumblr media
Offal refers to the internal organs and variety meats of animals that can be consumed as food (i.e. lung, heart, kidney, liver, gizzard, head, feet, etc.) The word 'offal' literally translates to "fall off", and thus, whatever falls off the skeleton during the butchering process. Offal is densely loaded with essential vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fats - so small amounts go a long way. Pet owners who use these as ingredients as part of a complete and balanced recipe should keep in mind that each organ is unique in its nutrient profile - dependent on the animal it is sourced from and how it is raised. For example, grass-fed beef may contain less fat yet more vitamin A and E than grain-fed beef, and beef liver has significantly more vitamin A and copper than chicken liver.
Preparation: Boil in water or low-sodium broth. May also be baked or dehydrated into jerky treats.
Tumblr media
Oyster mushrooms are a good source of protein and fiber, and vitamins that support healthy digestion. They can help to increase satiety and maintain healthy body weight. Oyster mushrooms are also full of pantothenic acid which help to maintain cognitive function and healthy skin/coat. Beta-glucans derived from oyster mushrooms have also been shown to reduce inflammation and strengthen immunity.
Preparation: Lightly sauté or boil in water or low-sodium broth. Raw or dried mushrooms can be difficult for dogs to digest.
Tumblr media
Purple sweet potato (Ube or Okinawan sweet potato) are typically found in grocery stores more commonly during the fall/winter seasons. They contain more antioxidants than regular sweet potatoes due to the anthocyanins that cause their violet hue. While all potato varieties may impact blood sugar levels because of their high carbohydrate content, purple potatoes may exert less of an effect because of their high polyphenol content that decreases the absorption of starches in the intestines. In addition, they have been linked to improving blood pressure, likely due to their high potassium content.
Preparation: Peel skin and bake until soft for better digestibility and to prevent intestinal blockages. May be boiled and drained to reduce oxalate intake for dogs with a history of bladder stones, or prone to urinary issues.
Tumblr media
Quail eggs are small, yet packed with protein and essential fatty acids, and have a higher ratio of iron, riboflavin, and vitamin b12 than chicken eggs. It is even safe and can be beneficial to feed them with the shells included for added calcium. Quail eggs have been linked to improving bone growth/healing, reducing liver damage, and increasing energy levels. While some studies have shown evidence of quail eggs treating allergies in humans and mice, they may be less likely to trigger reactions than chicken eggs in dogs who have poultry sensitivities.
Preparation: Wash thoroughly, and handle gently as they are more fragile due to their tiny size. Cooking methods are similar to that of chicken eggs, yet require less time.
Tumblr media
Sardines contain all the amino acids your dog needs for optimal health, making it a "complete protein". They are also notorious for being rich in omegas and coenzyme q-10, which help support heart and brain health. What sets sardines apart from other fish, too, is that they are smaller and more short-lived species than larger predator fish and may have less of a risk for mercury poisoning. Because they are so small and have soft bones, you can feed them whole to your pets.
Preparation: Bake or dehydrate. If already purchased as dried, be sure to make sure there is no added salt or seasonings. If canned, preferably those stored in water only.
Tumblr media
Sushi rice (Japanese sticky rice) has a high proportion of starch and moisture, giving it a stickier texture when cooked. Sushi rice has virtually zero fat, yet still provides a desirable balance of nutrients while remaining gentle on a dog’s digestive tract. Its higher iron content than regular rice supports healthy blood circulation and can provide more energy to dogs who are recovering from illness. Cooling/refrigerating the rice before serving also enables more retrogradation of prebiotic fiber, helping to lower glycemic responses and maximize intestinal function.
Preparation: Rinse thoroughly and soak in water (with 1tbsp apple cider vinegar - optional) before cooking. If you don’t have a rice cooker or instant pot, boil on the stove until the water is completely absorbed. May be cooked with bone broth for added flavor. You can also use small amounts of beet root powder, turmeric, or blue spirulina to add color and nutrients.

Browse the full report https://www.credenceresearch.com/report/bio-based-polyethylene-terephthalate-market
Understanding Bio-based Polyethylene Terephthalate (Bio-PET)
Bio-PET is a thermoplastic polyester resin derived primarily from renewable biological sources, such as sugarcane and corn, rather than fossil fuels. Like conventional PET, Bio-PET offers high strength, good thermal stability, and chemical resistance, making it suitable for a variety of applications. However, what sets Bio-PET apart is its lower environmental impact, as it can reduce carbon emissions and dependence on non-renewable resources throughout its lifecycle.
Market Dynamics Driving Bio-PET Adoption
1. Rising Environmental Awareness and Legislation Governments worldwide are imposing stricter regulations on conventional plastics due to their environmental impact. As a result, industries are increasingly adopting bioplastics, such as Bio-PET, that offer eco-friendly alternatives without compromising on functionality. Europe, for instance, has been a key player in encouraging sustainable solutions through regulations that incentivize the use of biodegradable materials.
2. Corporate Sustainability Initiatives Many corporations, especially within the consumer goods and packaging sectors, are pursuing ambitious sustainability goals that align with consumer demand for eco-friendly products. Bio-PET aligns with these objectives, enabling brands to demonstrate commitment to reducing their carbon footprint. Major companies such as Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and Nestlé have already adopted Bio-PET for their packaging, with goals to further increase its usage.
3. Technological Advancements and Cost Competitiveness Advances in biotechnology and material science have made Bio-PET production more cost-effective and scalable. Improvements in enzyme engineering, fermentation, and polymerization processes have contributed to increased yield and reduced costs. As these technologies mature, the price gap between Bio-PET and traditional PET narrows, making Bio-PET more attractive to manufacturers.
4. Growing Consumer Demand for Sustainable Products Today’s consumers are more environmentally conscious than ever, and their purchasing decisions often reflect their values. Eco-conscious consumers prefer products with biodegradable or recyclable packaging. This shift in consumer preferences is pushing companies to innovate and adopt Bio-PET, especially in the food and beverage, personal care, and pharmaceutical industries.
Key Challenges in the Bio-PET Market
1. High Production Costs Despite recent advancements, Bio-PET is still more expensive to produce than conventional PET due to its reliance on renewable feedstocks. This cost premium has limited its adoption to larger corporations that can afford the investment, while small and medium-sized enterprises may struggle to switch to Bio-PET.
2. Competition from Other Bioplastics Bio-PET faces competition from other bioplastics, such as polylactic acid (PLA) and polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), which offer similar environmental benefits. While each bioplastic has distinct properties and applications, companies often weigh these alternatives based on cost, availability, and functional requirements, potentially limiting Bio-PET's market share.
3. Limited Feedstock Availability The bio-based nature of Bio-PET means its production is dependent on agricultural resources like corn and sugarcane. Seasonal variations, price volatility, and competition with food crops can impact the availability and pricing of these raw materials. This dependency on agricultural products also raises concerns about the environmental impact of expanded bio-crop farming.
Applications of Bio-PET
1. Packaging Packaging, particularly in the food and beverage industry, is the primary application for Bio-PET. Brands use Bio-PET bottles for carbonated beverages, water, and personal care products due to its durability and recyclability. By adopting Bio-PET, companies can create lightweight, shatter-resistant packaging that aligns with their sustainability commitments.
2. Textiles Bio-PET fibers are also gaining popularity in the textile industry, especially for manufacturing clothing, carpets, and upholstery. These bio-based fibers provide the same durability and resilience as traditional PET fibers but with a reduced carbon footprint.
3. Automotive and Electronics As automakers look for sustainable materials, Bio-PET has found applications in automotive interiors, where it is used in seat covers, trims, and carpets. Similarly, in electronics, Bio-PET is used for casings and connectors due to its heat resistance and durability.
Future Prospects and Market Growth
The Bio-PET market is projected to expand significantly in the coming years. The rising emphasis on sustainability and environmental accountability, along with ongoing R&D investments, will likely make Bio-PET an increasingly viable alternative to conventional PET. With governments and corporations aligned on sustainability, Bio-PET’s role in the circular economy could be transformative.

A Complete Guide for Understanding the Importance of Supplements for Cats
As a cat owner, you may have pondered upon the need for supplements for optimal health. With the increasing availability of pet supplements in the market, it can be challenging to determine whether these products are essential or just another trend.
Understanding the role of supplements and knowing when they are beneficial can help you make informed decisions about your cat’s health.
This guide will explore why cat supplements might be necessary, the common types available, and how to choose the right ones for your feline friend.
Why Consider Supplements for Cats?
Supplements can play a vital role in filling nutritional gaps in your cat's diet and addressing specific health concerns.
Even with a balanced diet, some cats may not receive all the nutrients they need to thrive.
Supplements can support overall well-being, especially for cats with unique dietary requirements or chronic health conditions.
Benefits of Supplements for Cats with Unique Needs
- Addressing nutritional deficiencies
- Supporting digestive health and immunity
- Promoting joint and heart health, especially in senior cats
- Enhancing skin and coat quality
Common Types of Supplements for Cats
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
   - Supports skin health and reduces shedding
   - Promotes brain development and heart health
 Probiotics
   - Helps maintain a healthy gut microbiome
   - Reduces digestive issues such as diarrhoea
 Taurine
   - An essential amino acid for heart and eye function
   - Prevents deficiencies that can lead to severe health problems
  Glucosamine and Chondroitin
   - Beneficial for joint health in older cats
   - Helps manage symptoms of arthritis and improves mobility
 Vitamins and Minerals
   - Vitamin B-complex supports energy levels and nervous system health
   - Minerals like zinc promote a healthy coat and immune function
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: These essential fats support skin health, reduce inflammation, and promote joint mobility.
Do Cats Really Need Supplements?
The necessity of feline supplements often depends on individual circumstances. Healthy cats eating a balanced diet typically do not require additional vitamins or minerals.
However, there are specific scenarios where supplementation might be beneficial:
- Senior cats: As cats age, they may experience joint issues or cognitive decline. Supplements like glucosamine or omega-3 fatty acids can help mitigate these effects.
- Chronic conditions: Cats with ongoing health issues like kidney disease or allergies may need specialised supplements to support their treatment plans.
- Picky eaters or those with food sensitivities: These cats may not receive adequate nutrition from food alone.
Virbac offers a range of supplements to support various aspects of pet health, including joint health, growth, liver function, and bone strength. The products are designed to enhance cat nutrition and overall well-being, providing essential nutrients for optimal health.
Moreover, giving supplements without veterinary guidance can pose risks. Over-supplementation can lead to toxicity or adverse reactions, especially with fat-soluble vitamins that accumulate in the body.
How to Choose the Right Supplement for Your Cat
When selecting a supplement, look for products recommended by veterinarians and backed by scientific research. Here are a few tips to help you choose the best ones:
- Tailor supplements according to your cat’s needs: Select products that address specific health concerns, such as joint care or digestive support.
- Vet recommendations: Always opt for vet-recommended products from reputable brands to ensure quality and safety.
- Read labels carefully: Understand the ingredients and dosages listed on the label.
Conclusion
Supplements can play a crucial role in supporting your cat’s overall health, but they are not always necessary. By carefully selecting supplements and working with your vet, you can give your feline companion the best care possible to support a happy, healthy life.
Brands like Virbac India provide high-quality, veterinarian-approved supplements designed to meet the unique nutritional needs of cats. With options that support skin restoration and bone growth, our supplements ensure that pets receive comprehensive care and maintain their vitality throughout their lives. It is imperative to consult with a veterinarian before making any changes to your pets’s diet. This ensures that any supplementation is both necessary and safe.

The Japan bottled water market has witnessed rapid growth in recent years and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.2% between 2023 and 2030. The market was valued at USD 4751.8 million in 2022 and is expected to reach USD 7688.7 million in 2030.
The bottled water market in Japan is robust, driven by consumer preferences for health-conscious beverages, convenience, and high-quality hydration options. Japan’s bottled water market is distinguished by a variety of product types, including mineral, sparkling, flavored, and functional waters, which appeal to a broad range of consumer preferences. High standards for water quality and safety are paramount, as consumers in Japan prioritize purity and traceable sourcing, often favoring local brands that promote natural spring water from well-known Japanese regions like Mt. Fuji. In addition, with an aging population and an increasing focus on health and wellness, there is a growing demand for functional bottled waters fortified with vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes. The rise of eco-conscious consumers has also influenced the market, leading to innovations in sustainable packaging, such as recyclable PET bottles and plant-based materials. Coupled with widespread vending machine access and convenience store availability, the bottled water market in Japan is set to continue its growth, driven by evolving consumer expectations, product innovation, and a strong emphasis on quality and sustainability.
The dynamics of the bottled water market in Japan are shaped by a mix of consumer preferences, health trends, regulatory factors, and environmental concerns. Here are the key elements influencing the market:
1. Health and Wellness Trends
With a strong focus on health and wellness, Japanese consumers increasingly opt for bottled water as a healthier alternative to sugary drinks. This trend drives demand for pure, high-quality water, as well as functional water varieties enriched with vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes to support overall health, energy, and hydration.
2. Diverse Product Offerings
The Japanese bottled water market offers a wide range of products, including mineral, spring, sparkling, flavored, and functional waters. These diverse options cater to different consumer preferences, with sparkling water popular for its refreshing taste and functional waters appealing to those seeking additional health benefits. This diversity has fueled growth as consumers look for tailored hydration options.
3. High Standards for Quality and Safety
Japanese consumers place a premium on product quality and safety, particularly in food and beverage categories. This has led to strong demand for bottled water with transparent sourcing, such as water from natural springs in Japan, including popular locations like Mt. Fuji. Brands that emphasize purity and meet strict safety standards are highly valued, as consumers trust them for their rigorous quality controls.
4. Convenience and Accessibility
Bottled water is widely available in Japan, sold through a network of convenience stores, supermarkets, and vending machines that are ubiquitous throughout the country. This high level of accessibility makes bottled water a convenient choice for busy, on-the-go consumers, contributing to its popularity.
5. Environmental Concerns and Sustainable Packaging
With growing environmental awareness, many Japanese consumers are concerned about plastic waste and the ecological impact of bottled water. In response, companies are investing in sustainable packaging solutions, such as recyclable PET bottles, plant-based bottles, and refillable options. This shift towards environmentally friendly packaging is increasingly important to meet consumer expectations and regulatory guidelines for waste reduction.
6. Competition and Market Saturation
The Japanese bottled water market is highly competitive, with both domestic and international brands vying for market share. Well-established Japanese brands emphasize local sourcing and heritage, while international brands offer premium products. This competition has led to a saturated market where companies continuously innovate with new flavors, functional additives, and sustainable packaging to differentiate their products.
7. Aging Population and Demand for Functional Water
Japan’s aging population is contributing to the demand for functional bottled water. Older consumers are looking for hydration solutions that offer additional health benefits, such as promoting joint health, providing essential nutrients, or supporting cardiovascular health. As a result, functional waters with added vitamins, minerals, and collagen are becoming increasingly popular.
8. Premiumization and Affinity for Local Sourcing
Japanese consumers often perceive water sourced from pristine, local regions as superior, driving the premiumization trend. Bottled water brands that emphasize local, natural sources, such as water from Mt. Fuji, can command higher prices due to their perceived purity, taste, and health benefits. This affinity for locally sourced, premium water has created a niche market that brands are eager to capitalize on.
9. Government Regulations and Industry Standards
The bottled water industry in Japan is subject to stringent regulations regarding water quality, labeling, and environmental impact. These standards ensure that consumers receive safe, high-quality products, but they also require companies to maintain rigorous compliance practices. Additionally, government initiatives promoting environmental sustainability are pushing companies to adopt more eco-friendly practices and packaging.
10. Rising Popularity of Flavored and Enhanced Waters
Flavored and enhanced waters are increasingly popular, especially among younger consumers looking for healthy but flavorful alternatives to sugary beverages. These products often feature subtle flavors, such as lemon or green tea, and contain added nutrients, offering consumers variety while maintaining health-conscious appeal.

8. Expanded Vending Machine Offerings
Japan’s extensive vending machine network now features a variety of bottled water options, including sparkling, flavored, and functional waters. Innovative vending machines provide cold or hot water options, while some incorporate touchscreen interfaces that offer product information and recommendations based on consumer preferences, enhancing the purchasing experience.
9. Emphasis on Local Ingredients and Traditional Japanese Flavors
Many brands are incorporating traditional Japanese ingredients like matcha, ume (plum), and shiso (perilla leaf) to create uniquely flavored waters. These products appeal to consumers’ affinity for local flavors and ingredients, providing a distinct taste profile that blends hydration with cultural heritage. By emphasizing local sourcing, brands tap into national pride and support for domestic products.
10. Smart Hydration Solutions
Some bottled water brands in Japan are incorporating smart hydration features, such as apps that sync with smart bottles to track daily water intake and remind users to stay hydrated. These solutions cater to tech-savvy consumers who want to monitor and optimize their hydration habits, providing an interactive experience that aligns with wellness-focused lifestyles.
11. Collaboration with Other Beverage Brands and Health Companies
Collaboration is a growing trend, with bottled water brands partnering with other companies, including fitness brands, wellness centers, and even tea or sake companies, to create co-branded products. These partnerships help brands reach new audiences, offer unique product combinations, and emphasize holistic health and wellness.
12. Low-Calorie and Sugar-Free Options
As part of a broader health trend, consumers are increasingly looking for low-calorie and sugar-free beverages. Bottled water brands are responding by offering flavored waters with zero added sugars, sweetened naturally or with ingredients like stevia. This caters to health-conscious consumers looking for alternatives to sugary soft drinks while maintaining flavor variety.

PET Cup Market Forecast and Analysis Report (2023-2032)
Tumblr media
The PET Cup Market is projected to grow from USD 558.7 million in 2024 to an estimated USD 825.45 million by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5% from 2024 to 2032.
The PET cup market is experiencing robust growth, driven by the increasing demand for convenient, lightweight, and recyclable packaging solutions across various sectors, including food and beverages, hospitality, and retail. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) cups are highly favored for their durability, transparency, and lightweight characteristics, making them ideal for cold beverages like soft drinks, juices, iced coffee, smoothies, and even take-out foods such as salads and desserts. The rising trend of on-the-go consumption, particularly in urban areas, has significantly contributed to the growing adoption of PET cups, as they cater to consumer preferences for convenience and portability. Moreover, PET cups are cost-effective for businesses, easy to transport, and offer superior visual appeal for product presentation, which is especially important in industries like fast food and cafes where packaging serves as a key marketing tool.
The market is also benefiting from the growing global emphasis on sustainability and recycling. PET is widely recyclable, and many consumers and companies are becoming increasingly conscious of choosing packaging that is environmentally friendly. This has led to a surge in demand for recyclable PET cups, as businesses look to meet both regulatory requirements and consumer preferences for sustainable products. Many manufacturers are responding by producing PET cups that incorporate recycled PET (rPET), further contributing to the circular economy and reducing the environmental footprint of plastic products. This trend is particularly strong in regions such as Europe and North America, where governments have implemented stringent regulations aimed at reducing plastic waste and promoting the use of recyclable materials.
The foodservice industry, which includes restaurants, cafes, and fast-food chains, represents one of the largest consumers of PET cups. The growing popularity of takeout and delivery services, fueled by the rise of food delivery platforms, has increased the demand for disposable and recyclable cups. PET cups are also widely used for packaging in retail settings, particularly for grab-and-go food items. Additionally, the growth of the cold beverages segment, especially iced coffee and specialty drinks, has further propelled the demand for PET cups, as they are ideal for maintaining the temperature and freshness of such beverages.
Here are the key findings from the study of the PET cup market:
1. Growing Demand from the Food & Beverage Industry:
The PET cup market is witnessing significant demand from the food and beverage industry, particularly in segments such as fast food, cafes, and quick-service restaurants. PET cups are widely used for serving cold beverages like iced coffee, smoothies, juices, soft drinks, and take-away foods like salads and desserts. The increasing trend of on-the-go consumption and the rise of food delivery services are key factors driving this demand, making PET cups a popular choice for both convenience and functionality.
2. Rising Focus on Sustainability and Recycling:
A major trend driving the PET cup market is the growing emphasis on sustainability. Consumers and businesses are increasingly opting for eco-friendly and recyclable packaging solutions, and PET cups, being highly recyclable, align with these preferences. Many manufacturers are producing PET cups with recycled PET (rPET), contributing to the circular economy and reducing the environmental impact of single-use plastics. This trend is particularly prominent in North America and Europe, where regulations are tightening around plastic waste and sustainability.
3. Asia-Pacific Leading Market Growth:
The Asia-Pacific region is expected to see the fastest growth in the PET cup market, driven by rapid urbanization, an expanding middle-class population, and increasing consumption of on-the-go food and beverages. Countries like China, India, and Southeast Asia are experiencing significant demand for disposable packaging solutions, fueled by the rise of fast-food chains and the convenience food sector. This region is also seeing a shift toward more sustainable packaging as environmental awareness grows.
4. Innovation in Packaging Design:
There is a strong trend toward innovation in PET cup designs, with manufacturers focusing on improving both functionality and aesthetics. New designs include PET cups with enhanced clarity, durability, and sealing features, making them more suitable for a wide range of applications, from cold beverages to ready-to-eat foods. Additionally, innovations in lid designs, including domed and flat lids, as well as options for straws or strawless cups, are enhancing the consumer experience and driving market growth.
5. Impact of Regulatory Changes:
The PET cup market is heavily influenced by evolving regulatory frameworks aimed at reducing plastic waste and promoting recycling. Wheat Protein Market Drivers: Increase in consumer preference for meat analogs
The global market for plant-based meat alternatives has seen significant growth as consumers seek products that closely replicate the fibrous structure, texture, and mouthfeel of traditional meat. This rising demand has driven the development of plant protein-based meat substitutes worldwide. Increasing awareness of healthy and nutritious eating has also given rise to a new group of consumers, known as “flexitarians,” who are looking to reduce their meat intake. This shift in dietary preferences has spurred the creation of innovative products designed to meet consumer demand for meat-like options that not only taste like meat but also offer high protein content. For example, under the European research project LikeMeat, academic researchers and small to medium-sized enterprises have successfully developed new meat alternatives. They achieved this by creating fibrous, meat-like structures from plant proteins using a modified cooking extrusion process, which were then transformed into various food products.
Wheat Protein Market Opportunities: Growing role of wheat protein in the pet industry
The global pet food market is primarily driven by two significant trends: premiumization and humanization. Pet owners increasingly view their pets as family members, leading to a heightened demand for premium pet food that offers nutritional benefits, better digestibility, and superior ingredient quality. In response to this shift, major companies like Crespel & Deiters Group (Germany) are introducing wheat protein as a key ingredient in pet food products. Wheat, commonly used in dry dog foods and biscuits, provides high-quality carbohydrates that not only supply energy for daily activities but also enhance the food's processing capabilities. As a rich source of starches, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, and fiber, wheat-based products contribute to the development of balanced and nutritious pet foods, offering a holistic approach to optimizing pet diets.
How is the adoption of plant-based meat substitutes impacting the demand for textured wheat protein?
Textured wheat protein, also known as wheat meat, wheat gluten, or seitan, is a popular plant-based protein source used as a meat substitute for many years. A study published in the journal, Foods, in 2021 found that the demand for meat substitutes, including textured wheat protein, is increasing worldwide due to health, ethical, and environmental concerns associated with meat consumption. In 2019, a survey by the International Food Information Council found that 22% of US consumers reported consuming plant-based meat substitutes, including textured wheat protein, at least once a week. Therefore, the demand for textured wheat protein is increasing globally, driven by factors such as the growing popularity of plant-based diets and the increasing demand for sustainable and ethical food products.
North America Dominates the Wheat Protein Market Share.
Countries such as the US, Canada, and Mexico have been considered in this study. The market in the US is driven by growing consumer awareness about the importance of protein in the diet, which, in turn, has encouraged the demand for functional food & beverages. The versatile functionality of wheat protein has sustained demand in the baking industry, leading to constant growth in consumption. Research and technological developments in hydrolysed wheat protein have also led to a long-term consumption trend of wheat protein in the US. However, the increase in discussion on gluten intolerance acts as a hindrance to the growth of the wheat protein market in this region. The high functional profile, low carbon footprint, and low price of wheat-sourced proteins are the key factors encouraging the consumption of wheat protein, particularly in baked products.
