While I love how people analyze fma and fmab something I find that they always miss or disregard despite the fact that it is literally a huge part of the story is that when it comes to making the decision to try and bring back Trisha it wasn't just Ed.

I have seen so many posts about Ed's growth and how he was selfish and yes he was, because he was a grieving child who didn't know any better. But you know who did everything with him because he was going through the same thing? Al. There are multiple scenes of Ed trying to make up for what he sees as his sins only for Al to remind him they made those choices together and they share the sins.

Ed and Al weren't perfect, and seeing only Edwards flaws and mistakes is missing the point of the story, and Al would beat you up if you insisted he was innocent where Ed wasn't, they did everything together the story was about these two orphaned brothers who in their grief made a mistake and then spent years trying to heal each other and despite the odds managed to do that while saving the world.

They did it together, so stop ignoring Al's part in the story, because he was so important his triumphs and mistakes were just as important as Ed's and he would absolutely deck anyone who said everything was Ed's fault.

Thinking about Envy from FMA and why he acts like that. Specifically, why he seems to take such vindictive pleasure in killing.

He doesn't have any loved ones. At all. And it fucking burns inside of him.

When he takes the form of Gracia to kill Hughes, and when he taunts Marco with the destruction of his village, despite what he claims about "humans not having the guts to make the logical choice", there's nothing logical about it, it's purely out of spite. It's "you have something that I don't. You have someone you love and someone who loves you back. Fuck you. I'm going to hurt you with it."

On the Promised Day, when he finally confesses to Hughes' murder, the reason is simple: Mustang loved Hughes. Hughes is dead but Mustang is still doggedly pursuing his killer. And Envy hates that he doesn't have that. He hates the fact that Hughes and Mustang were so close that Mustang would go to the ends of the earth to avenge his death, but if Envy died, no one would care. At most, Father would be inconvenienced, but not angry.

At the end, when he's trying to get everyone to start fighting and kill each other, it's because he's genuinely having a breakdown. Half the people in that room have very good reasons to want the other half dead. But they're still working together. Even if they're not exactly friends, they're still able to form bonds. Envy looks at Scar - a man who, justifiably or not, was a mass murderer - and Rita/Mustang - people who, even if they feel guilty, still participated in a genocide - and it drives him off the deep end. Because after everything they've done, people are still willing to stand by them. And Envy can't say the same.

Truly wish mangahood fans would just tell first time Brotherhood watchers to read the manga first to get all the context they need to make Brotherhood suck 1% less, instead of suggesting the broke-ass, tired "watch 03 until it diverges" nonsense.

These continuities do not line up. They do not click into each other. The characters in 03 are fundamentally different from mangahood, the events of fma 03 from episode 1 are fundamentally different to !the manga! let alone to Brotherhood. The way alchemy itself works is fundamentally different and that's pretty obvious when you compare mangahood and 03! So how are you going to funnel newbies into mangahood by feeding them half of 03?

I know we're all hoping new fans are as incapable of engaging with what they're actually watching as most existing fma fans, but it would make far more sense to prepare them by having them actually read the source material that Brotherhood is actually adapting, not an anime that Brotherhood has nothing to do with.
