I wish elysia was a villain so badly, i hate her with how she turned out. Also I guess technically Mei was a terrorist for a while, however they unfortunately did not expand much on that. Honestly I am beginning to see that despite how much I love and owe to KiaMei, VitaSeele is basically KiaMei if the writers actually took risks and the criticisms you have towards kiamei are reflections of your praises of vitaseele. I also noticed that your 'kiamei hate' comes across less as 'i hate kiamei' and more 'i really wish i liked kiamei but the writers refuse to take risks.'
Villain!Elysia would’ve been so good. I’ve made my peace with how Ely turned out but boy was I pissed about it at the time hahaha. Vita feels a little similar so that healed me a bit.
You are absolutely correct on my overall view of Kiamei! I tagged it as “kiamei hate” because it seemed like the generic tag kiamei enjoyers would filter out for things they don’t want to see, but I don’t actually hate them, I just wish I could enjoy it like the game wants me to. I end up missing out :T but no can do if I don’t vibe with it.
I also like Fuki a lot because they had a lot of bonding time together and strong moments, like Hua saving Kiana from suicide hello? Let them talk again Mihoyo. So it's not like they were incapable of developing a relationship as writers or anything like that.

Part IV of my 20th anniversary series !
Part I Part II Part III
This post was brought to you by Node of Scherzo before Versailles even was a thing :D I was really, really excited when Versailles happened, and even more when they teamed up with Kaya and Juka to make Node of Scherzo. Here's why lol (ok there are no Juka songs here but eeeeeh)
As usual : Song titles link to individual mp3 file download
All 5 songs can also be downloaded together, in a zip file, from the link at the bottom
藍華柳~aikaryu - すすめ!パイレーツ (susume! pirates)
Aikaryu being Teru's band before Versailles :)
Another iconic piece from Aikaryu, probably their best, imo, that still makes me wish their van never crashed (but then again, if that didn't happen, maybe Teru and Hizaki wouldn't have started working together, and they do riff well together aaah...)
Susume! Pirates was on the mini-album 海賊盤~Aye.藍.sir~ (kaizokuban~aye. ai. sir~ more puns from our buddy aikaryu uhuhuh), released in 2004.
youtube
aaah, indie goodness ♥
HIZAKI - Ritual (featuring fu-ki from BLOOD)
... Well Hizaki was also Hizaki before versailles, I suppose. His solo career is pretty solid, though ! I was already vaguely aware of BLOOD at the time, and this song convinced me to look further into it :)
This version of Ritual was on Maiden†Ritual, released in 2004 (it was somewhat self-covered under HIZAKI grace project and sung by Juka a few years later, but Juka's falsetto is so bad you might as well stick to the fuki version ahahhaah)
youtube
LAREINE - Scarlet Majesty
Lareine being one of Kamijo's bands before versailles, if I even needed to introduce him...
Now this was one of the first Lareine song I heard, I don't remember what was the very first, but this one was the one that made me love Lareine :3 And it's another one of these songs I didn't realized was so new, at the time... (but also, in my head, somehow, lareine disbanded in 2001 LOL)
Scarlet Majesty was a single released in 2003.
youtube
Malice Mizer - au revoir
The thing is, I thought that malice would suit the mood better than m10m (but then again here's Schwarz Stein at the end lmao), especially right after Lareine, AND once you've heard one m10m song, you've pretty much heard it all (there's one in the 1st post of the series ;) ), BUT that statement isn't true about Malice. I've done Klaha era, now here's Gackt lolz. (also Juka wouldn't be Juka without a good Gackt base, so eh...) (also, also : i'm pretty sure that at least Közi showed up to a node of scherzo event, back then, iirc)
Also, ngl, I chose between this, Le Ciel, and Bel Air, and I'm not sure how I elected au revoir... It might just be that Mana's flower costume is my fave of all time ♥
Au revoir was a single released in 1997.
youtube
(enjoy this non-crunchy clip omfgoth im always emotional when I actually see it and I dont have to guess what the pixels mean T^T)
Schwarz Stein - Rise to Heaven
Schwarz Stein being Kaya's band bef... WELL. They were active from 2001 to 2004, and have been semi active since 2011. Kaya started his solo career in the meantime, partaking in several side projects, including Node of Scherzo. (And Hora spent his time buying shoes and living (?) in Hawaii, I guess...)
IT'S THE FIRST SCHWARZ STEIN SONG I EVER HEARD !!! At the time, this, queen of decadence and fester love was all I could find on lime wire lol. And it stayed like that until a parental unit gifted me a legit copy of New Vogue Children (there were a lot of "miya records" copies circling on ebay, back then). So anyway, I heard that and I fell in love and it's been 20 years and counting :D
Rise to Heaven was on the album New Vogue Children, released in 2003
youtube
Bonus because it was already uploaded in mega :
Node of Scherzo, featuring Teru, Hizaki, Juka, Kamijo, and Kaya here, and among others
Node of Scherzo was a series of concert put up together by versailles, Kaya, and Juka, in 2007. They basically created a musical based on beauty (lol) involving a love triangle and songs from Versailles, Hizaki grace project, and Kaya's solo career. After the released of Carmilla, it became a vampire story as well.
NoS also paved the way for the monstrosity that is JVM Roses Blood Symphony lol
youtube
.zip file downloadable HERE~

This special edition of The Komi Report is split into 2 posts. This is Part 1. Click here for Part 2
Hullo! Welcome to the mildly anticipated 2023 Annual Edition of The Komi report! What awaits you below the read more mark is the ultimate retrospective on this year in Komi Can't Communicate. What makes it ultimate? As far as I'm aware, it's the only one of its kind. So I win by default.
I've spent the past week re-reading and ruminating upon the 50 chapters of Komi that came out in 2023, and I've done my very best to boil it all down into the ultimate mega-report!!! It's a long one, so only open it when you're ready for a read!
CONTENTS
1. A Letter from the Editor
2. 2023 in Review
3. The Emoi Awards: (My) Top 5 Chapters of the Year, Most Emoi Moment, Funniest Joke, and Reader’s Choice
A Letter From the Editor
Dear Reader,
It's been a long time since I tried to engage in fandom. People with whom I'm not already acquainted vex, confuse, and frighten me. So rather than seek out community, I'm inclined to keep to myself and my close inner circle of friends. You might say that Alice can't... Alice can't com... communi........
But I love Komi Can't Communicate so very much. Getting my little dose of emoi every Wednesday is the best part of my week. So, to extend the fun and keep myself from bursting; I started making reaction posts, called them The Komi Report because I like to play pretend, and here we are now!
The Komi Report is consistent only so far as it's always unfocused. I get so wrapped up thinking about the things I want to say that I forget to say most of them. I'm scattered, I'm overly harsh, and I'm awkward. However, I amuse myself tremendously. So it's alright in the end.
I like to imagine this is some big, serious publication with a large readership. That's far south of true. But there are a small handful of people who interact with the Report on a regular basis. By my personal standards, that puts me on par with the editor of the New York Times.
So my hearty thanks to anyone reading this special edition of The Komi Report. I have endeavored, in my silly little way, to stir up a few silly little emotions in your heart. If I succeed at that, then I’m satisfied indeed.
I wish you happy holidays, and a very happy new year.
2023 in Review
Alice,
The Komi Reporter
In my mind I break Komi Can't Communicate down into three major sections based on Komi's three years of high school. Her first year is the Bronze Age, second is the Golden Age, and third (which is still, of course, ongoing) is the Silver Age. By this naming scheme I don't mean to imply that one year is better than the other. Only that each of them represents a distinct period of Komi's narrative and for Tomohito Oda as an artist. Talk to me about that sometime; I'll talk your ear off.
Here I've attempted to break 2023 down into its major constituents as well. It's messy, considering the meandering nature of serial fiction like this, but I think I've done a decent job. How exciting for me.
‘Kawai’ encompasses both her story arc and chapters wherein she features predominantly. ‘Kissy Kissy’ and ‘Rumiko’ explain themselves. ‘Emoi surprise attack’ lumps together Ogiya, Emoyama, Fuki, Yadano, and Michita's story beats because I think they're identical in tone and intent. And ‘Komi and Hiki Reunite’ gets its own colour because I love Hiki Komorebi. And I can do whatever I want.
RIP the younger siblings. Shosuke, Hitomi, Ai, and Sanjuro-Rokuro appeared only very briefly this year. Fingers crossed they get some good moments in 2024.
To reflect on 2023 as a whole, I will discuss my general thoughts on each of these segments individually; bar Hiki and the assorted miscellany, for that would require talking too much about individual chapters and would derail everything and plunge us into a lake of fire.
Kawai
Reddit is a hostile and alien environment to me, but I like to peruse r/komi_san every now and then to see what people are saying. The Kawai-heavy months were particularly fun, because Ms Rami dominated conversation and polarized the entire subreddit into petty arguments, the likes of which I still chuckle about. There were Kawai haters, Kawai lovers, Kawai haters who compared her to Yamai, Yamai lovers who tried to turn those comparisons into a positive. It was chaos.
(Link)
Me? I'm a Kawai stan for life. I'll say it at every opportunity; I love when Komi shows off her passionate side – stubborn as a mule, jealous, competitive, and a little domineering. The study camp arc brought those parts of her right out. So, although I didn't find Kawai all that interesting as a character at first, I was enjoying myself.
An old flame of Tadano's - mentioned for the first time in a passing joke long, long ago - appears unexpectedly. She's like an evil dimension Komi – down to the way her shining silver hair contrasts with Komi's dark black-purple. There's no actual risk of her stealing Tadano away, but she undermines Komi's confidence and challenges her openly. A challenge that's impossible to resist.
They spar back and forth. Kawai has the advantage in athleticism and intellect. But when they come to the final portion of the quiz game, Kawai's self-centered attitude is her downfall yadda yadda etc. etc.
Then.... then.... they have that talk on the beach...
...where she reveals her batshit insane long-term plan to watch over Tadano from afar; become the perfect bride-to-be in secret; then appear when the moment is right, drive away all competition, and sweep him off his feet??? Ice-cold kuudere/yandere bitch queen. Be still, my beating heart 💞.
But she has the self-awareness to see things clearly – As she talks to Komi she begins to realize how her attitude has steered her wrong. She sees how Komi and Tadano have something real; how she's been fooling herself all along. Kawai admits that she was behaving poorly and concedes defeat. Growth!!!
I'm going to backflip across the room. I felt like I had achieved nirvana the first time I read this.
I see in Kawai a girl who's been isolated for so long – stuck in an absurd romantic fantasy as a coping mechanism – that she has no concept of how to engage with people casually. She was a lonely child, her parents died tragically, and then she was raised by people who didn't know what to do with her. She seeks meaningful connections but has an extreme, intense personality and abides by an overly literal definition of what makes a ‘family’. Thus, her behavior is overbearing and, at times, inappropriate. But she means well.
Also, she's the best new character since Rumiko and she should never change ever.
One of her lackey's has a big, gay crush on her...
...and I hope Kawai notices her some day.
I saw many people who were frustrated with how heavily Kawai featured in the first half of 2023. I for one think we need more of her. Much, much more of her. I choose not to address her... interesting relationship with her relatives. One must turn a blind eye now and then.
Kissy Kissy
Every romance story faces a serious problem when the lovebirds finally hook up. How do you retain romantic tension once they're formally together? Many stories don't. This is perfectly fine if the story ends at the confession of love, but if the story continues then there needs to be a deeper foundation to the relationship than will-they-won't-they tension (or you can contrive a reason to split them up again).
Komi Can't Communicate has not suffered from loss of romantic tension!!! Wahoo!!!!!
I was stoked back when it became obvious Oda was going to bring Komitano together so soon before the end of the series. I had no doubt the romance would remain compelling - Komi and Tadano are just plain old nice to see together; whatever they might be doing.
So to find out they'll be dating for an entire third of the series??? Yes please. In the english translated tankobon, the love triangle ended in March with the release of volume 23. So we got Komitano officially dating in print; then a few months later, in the weekly chapters, they kissed for the first time. What a year!!!
Tadano is boundlessly patient and thoughtful, and he understands Komi's needs with intuition that crosses the border into mind-reading. He became her first friend motivated only by an earnest desire to help, and never demonstrated jealousy as she became increasingly independent from him. He's a pleasant fellow; faithful, gentle, and kind.
Komi is.... well, she's Shoko Komi
The build up to it is so sweet. A festival date with just the two of them~ She's wearing the dress he chose; he's wearing a shirt with buttons on it (a step up for these shonen romance boys).
Then it goes terribly... and you'd expect these two stress machines to be panicking. But no, they've grown so much and bonded so deeply. They laugh it off in the rain and retreat somewhere dry for a smooch or two... 🥰 kyaaaaaa ✿!!! Emoi!!! And they're both crazy flustered about kissing... but Komi gets assertive... she's kinda like that asldnalsjdnja
The romance is alive. And between these moments, I just like seeing them together; no matter what's going on.
Rumiko
Way back when Rumiko was introduced, she was like a revelation. Her strong, unique personality and chemistry with the rest of the cast made her an instant series staple. Introducing a new character for a long and complex love triangle plotline was a tricky proposition, and Oda managed it with a stroke of genius. Such a stroke of genius that everything before Rumiko's intro feels, in retrospect, like it's missing something. Which is not to say that pre-Rumiko KCC is bad, or that Rumiko should have entered sooner. No. Everything about the way she was handled is perfect...
...up to a certain point. On a tangential note: if you think Rumitano should have been the outcome of the love triangle (hello! you know who you are :3) I can't honestly say I disagree. I don't agree. But I also don't disagree.
(Ch. 285)
(I like Rumitano and Komitano equally. And RumiKomi) But all of this is just lead-up to the matter at hand.
What's pertinent to this 2023 review is the way Rumiko has been handled post love triangle. During moments of passion I've blamed it on Wakai monopolizing her time, but that's unfair. Wakai is just fine. His will-they-won't-they plot with Rumiko is just fine. I do enjoy it at times. What gets on my nerves is how reduced Rumiko feels. At some point Oda decided she's ‘girl who makes unsightly facial expressions’ and that's so much of what we get of her when we get to see her. Her personality has been somewhat squashed.
Couple that with how the focus of her plot with Wakai is primarily on him. She feels like a side character now, when in the past she was effectively a third protagonist. It was inevitable that she step down from her peak of prominence as her role as rival-in-love came to an end, but... idk. She's Komi's best friend (Tadano doesn't count). She’s the Rumiko Manbagi.
There are moments where Rumiko's personality still shines. During her date with Tadano in particular (which was a breath of fresh air). I also enjoyed her summer festival date with Wakai (Accidentally calling a girl ‘mum’ on the first date? I'd die). Those moments are lovely. But feel diluted...
^^ In this moment I felt like her relationship with Wakai might become really interesting akoakjsndnasd
I said up above that I think KCC is in its Silver Age. Well, there's a major reason why. The magic isn't lost, but it's faded ever so slightly without the golden lustre of our favourite gyaru's hair......
But who knows what'll happen next? Oda surprises me constantly, and I think that's one of the things I love so much about this series. Right when he starts to lose me, Oda reels me back in. A comeback for Rumiko could be right around the corner.
Emoi Surprise Attack
This is the loosest of my categories. What can I say? I'm a loose girl. No... uh... pretend I didn't say that. It's true, but this isn't the time or place.
These stories are related insofar as the last few months of 2023 have been a grab-bag of minor characters receiving surprising and heartfelt little stories. Ogiya, Emoyama, Fuki, and Yadano were joke characters who never seemed destined for serious attention, but every one of them came out swinging and hit a home run... wiht our hearts............... they sent our hearts into the stands.........
Michita is new, and I hope we see her again soon.
Anything more I have to say about these chapters would require talking about them individually, which is beyond the scope of this section. So let's do a lightning round:
Ogiya – PHENOMINAL
Emoyama – PHENOMINAL
Also, Hello Moromi-san. Is there a woman in your life? Can we be Mrs. And Mrs. Emoyama?
Fuki – PHENOMINAL
Yadano – PHENOMINAL
Michita – PHENOMINAL
AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGG!!!!!!!!! (cry of Emoi)
There you have it.
----------------------------------
So ends the overview!! If you're bothered I didn't talk about something in particular, don't worry; the Emoi Awards get more specific. There's sooooo much that I left out in the pursuit of brevity.
I want to make a special note of the reveal in Ch. 407 – Interview. Komi plans to study International Communication in university. I was anticipating the reveal of her course of study, and I wasn't disappointed. It could not have been anything else.
My overall feeling about the series at the moment? Great!!!! I complain bitterly at times (I'm a whiny, weeny windbag) and I'm at my harshest when I'm forming first impressions. But going over 2023 and remembering all the good times brought into perspective how much fun it's been. It also really put into perspective how much Komi has grown as a person. She’s so confident now compared to where she started from...
So... yeah!
And now the contentious business begins...
The Emoi Awards
Paam pa du paam!!!!! (that's fanfare)
Now it's time to get granular. This is the cream of the crop. The best of the blessed. The chapters and moments that had all of us laughing, giggling, chuckling, guffawing, weeping, sobbing, and crying.
My opinions about Komi Can't Communicate are perfect and definitive, so if you disagree with me about any of this... argue vehemently with me. I'm not joking. Don't be mean to me or I'll cry, but do please tell me your opinions! The more you talk to me about Komi, the more powerful I become. Mweh heh heh heh heh heh
Here are the categories:
(My) Top Five Chapters of the Year
(My) Top 5 Chapters of the Year
Most Emoi Moment
Funniest Joke
Reader’s Choice
I did NOT expect this to be so hard. I had to firmly limit myself to only five choices... and I was tearing my hair out. This mANGA IS SO GOOD ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!
Listed in order of publication (love has no hierarchy. Except in kink).
1. Chapter 392 - Kawai is...
Kawai spends the entire study camp being a fierce enemy to Komi, then stays up late and has an emotional heart-to-heart on the beach with her, then runs 20kms all the way home... and by noon the next day she's in Komi's house to propose marriage. And she's already been to Tadano's to do the same. Bisexual, polyamorous, and a serious go-getter. When Kawai wants something, she spares no expense.
My regards to the future prime minister of Japan. It's a shame Rumiko didn't think of this first.
But seriously, though; I laughed out loud the whole way through this chapter. I was delighted to no end. If I ever doubted Tomohito Oda's ability to surprise me, that doubt was erased forever. Kawai was a good character, in one fell swoop she became legendary.
I love you, Kawai.
2. Chapter 406 - My Name is Kuro
Maybe I'm biased about Rei Natsukido. Maybe I'm biased because this was the first chapter on which I made a Komi Report. Either way, I'm biased and okay with that. Having Rei and Mira around for a visit all the way from America was so much fun, and we got the return of Komi Can't Communicate's #1 best character – Princess Elizabeth Alexandrine Georgine Jeanne Catherine Christiane.
I love that Mira acts all cool and distant but can't stop herself from becoming invested. I love how passionate and imaginative Rei is about the game. I love how Komi is just along for the ride and she's having a blast. I love that Komi is playing a boy character.
(Ch 169 – Playing With Dolls)
And I love their funky plush toys.
I love you, Rei and Mira.
3. Chapter 410 - Cicada-rrounded
Hiki Komorebi is yet another S Tier character. Unrelated to that; her height is so funny to me. She looks crazy tall next to the other characters - she even has a complex about it - and then you find out she's only 180cm. Japanese people are short.
Anyway,
Cicada-rrounded has this complete twist in the middle where it goes from a heartwarming reunion to a battle for survival against icky bugs. Komi and Hiki meeting again was built up for so long, and it's a beautiful moment,
and then it gets de-railed immediately in the best and funniest way possible.
I would go so far as to say this is a perfect chapter of Komi Can't Communicate. It's equal parts sentiment and comedy, and kills it on both fronts. If I had to pick a #1 favourite from these 5? I might maybe possibly be inclined to consider this one.
I love you, Hiki. Also Akira
4. Chapter 411/412 - A Two Person Summer Festival Stroll/The Second Time
I already gushed about these two in the overview section. What more is there to say? Except that it's a little annoying how Tadano remains so timid about romance stuff; but it gives us so many opportunities for assertive Komi to come out, so that's alright.
Komi is kinda like that... aosjkdoaksdokansdnajiosd. Get it, girl.
(Ch. 427 - Cool)
I love you, Komi and Tadano
(This special edition of The Komi Report continues in Part 2)

[スタオケ] La Corda d'Oro Starlight Orchestra Mikado Ukiha Cast Story Chapter 8 Translation
*Starlight Orchestra Masterlist | Mikado Ukiha’s Personal Masterlist *Spoiler free: Translations will remain under cut *Mikado's Route Tag will be #Ukiha’s Star
After the opening performance in Kyoto—
Mikado joined the Glanz Symphony Orchestra.
Ukiha: Hehe. You’re definitely looking like part of the Starlight Orchestra now, Genichiro.
Otone: There’s one for you too, Mikdao-kun! See~?
Ukiha: Am I to change too? In this bus?
Otone: Of course! We have to make adjustments if the size doesn’t fit~
Otone: Okay, take off that coat, yeah? Then put this on~!
Ukiha: Very well. If I am to change here, then may I have the privacy of this bus as a fitting room?
☆ ━━━━━━━ ∘◦♬◦∘ ━━━━━━━ ☆
Akira: …He’s takin’ an awfully long time, ain’t he? Hasn’t it been ten minutes since he went on the bus to change?
Lynn: Maybe the size wasn’t right after all? Who knows, maybe he’s actually built underneath all that.
Takuto: Is this his first time dressing himself? He seems the type to usually need help getting dressed.
Akira: What era do you think we’re in right now? We aren’t in a period drama, you know.
Genichiro: It’s not exactly like something out of a period drama, but I have helped dress Ukiha-sama on occasion.
Genichiro: The housekeeper, Fuki-san, and I have both done so…
Takuto: Holy crap! Really!? And you even look proud of it!
Souji: The hem of his clothes are pretty long, and he’s changing in a cramped and unfamiliar location… What if he fell and hit his head?
Genichiro: You make a good point. I’ll go in and check up on him.
▷Choice: Please do. / I'm coming with you!
Sakuya: Huh!? No, you’re not! Don’t stick your neck into every little thing. Genichiro: —Ukiha-sama, I’m coming in! Genichiro: …Urk!
Ukiha: …Oh? Are you alright there, Genichiro?
Ukiha: It is dangerous to be standing right outside the door, and you will dirty the outfit that was prepared for you.
Genichiro: …S-Sorry. I’m… fine.
Ukiha: Sorry to keep you waiting. I had to change in an unfamiliar changing room, you see.
Takuto: Thank goodness you’re alright with changing on your own!
Souji: Looks like he didn’t hit his head.
Ukiha: …Sorry?
Lynn: Ahh, no. We’re just talking to each other.
Lynn: You really are something, Mikado-san. You look good in a tailcoat, and it looks like a perfect fit.
Ukiha: Yes, thankfully.
Ukiha: What do you think…?
Akira: Oh, it fits you like a glove. You look pretty dashin’ in it.
Lynn: Not bad.
Otone: Let's all give it our best tomorrow then~!
Takuto: Ooh! Why don't we all take a commemorative photo since we're all in matching outfits?
Takuto: We've yet to take a photo with both Mikado-san and Washigami in it, right?
▷Choice: Let's do it!
Ukiha: A… photograph? Of me and everyone in the Starlight Orchestra?
Akira: With us, your friends.
Otone: Gimme a mo~ I'll go call the others over.
Ukiha: …Are you sure I am allowed in this photograph?
▷Choice: Of course you are! / You're getting in the center, Mikado!
Ukiha: I see… Very well, I will gladly join in.
Ginga: What, what? What's this I hear about a photoshoot? Don't tell me I'm doomed to be the designated photographer whose only purpose is to press the shutter button and nothing else…
Rei: My, oh my. That tailcoat really suits you, Mikado-kun.
Takuto: Come on, Concertmistress, Mikado-san!
▷Choice: Looks like we're together in the center! /This will be memorable!
Ukiha: Yes, let us join them.
Ukiha: The fact that even I get to experience something like this is all thanks to you inviting me to join. The Starlight Orchestra.
Ukiha: So, I am thankful for having met you…
Ukiha: Thank you, (L/n)-san.
☆ ━━━━━━━ ∘◦♬◦∘ ━━━━━━━ ☆
—Even after having held the best concert of our lives, we weren't even given the chance to say goodbye to him.
He’d made his choice. The place where his skills would blossom would no longer be the Starlight Orchestra, but rather, the Glanz Symphony Orchestra.
☆ ━━━━━━━ ∘◦♬◦∘ ━━━━━━━ ☆
—It felt suffocatingly lonely. The happy memory of the past only felt like yesterday.
Ginga: …Yo. So this was where you were. I was looking for you, you know.
Ginga: Come to The Magnolia. There's something I'd like to show you.
Ginga: It probably has something to do with whatever's making you look so glum.
☆ ━━━━━━━ ∘◦♬◦∘ ━━━━━━━ ☆
Ginga: This is it.
What Ginga had wanted to show me was a piece of old sheet music.
Ginga: A certain composer wrote this piano score. I'll give it a spin, so listen in, alright?
☆ ━━━━━━━ ∘◦♬◦∘ ━━━━━━━ ☆
Ukiha: …!
Ukiha: Could you please refrain from playing that particular piece?
☆ ━━━━━━━ ∘◦♬◦∘ ━━━━━━━ ☆
Ginga: I knew it. This is a piece composed by Mikado Izumi, his father.
Ginga: Mikado Izumi was originally skilled at composing contemporary music, which was what made this simple and warm song unique.
Ginga: That was what made it popular… but this piece came under fire when word got out that it was written by a disciple of his.
Ginga: They say that this was proof that it had been ghostwritten, and it had even become a hot topic amongst people who knew nothing about music.
☆ ━━━━━━━ ∘◦♬◦∘ ━━━━━━━ ☆
Ginga: I think Mikado’s doing his best. And I'm sure something did happen— something that he can't share
Ginga: Plus, that’s not all there is to it. I'm sure he's living with an enormous burden on his shoulders…
Ginga: So you can't really blame him for his decision.
▷Choice: I couldn't be of any help… / I wonder what I should have done to change his mind…
Ginga: There was nothing you could have done. He may have been a member of the same Orchestra as you, but this isn't something that you can share the burden of.
▷Choice: What about now? Is there still anything I can do? / There should be a way to help him.
Ginga: …I truly wonder if there is.
Ginga: Family, people, money… There are many complicated factors at play here. And, honestly speaking, this isn't something a high-schooler like you can do anything about.
Ginga: Although, I do understand where you're coming from…
…
Ginga: In any case, this song's really nice, isn't it?
Ginga: Whatever the circumstances behind this piece, there's still no doubt that it is a masterpiece! It's too much of a pity to let it be forgotten.

Unlucky Morpheus interview with Gekirock - Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World? OP "Sekai Rinne"
Original interview:
---
Finally, at long last, Unlucky Morpheus, known affectionately as Ankimo, is set to release their new single, "Sekai Rinne." The title track will serve as the opening theme for the TV anime "なぜ僕の世界を誰も覚えていないのか?(Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World?)" starting on July 13. While known for their heavy metal sound, Ankimo is also adept at incorporating high-quality pop sensibilities, and they've long aimed to create anime songs. Here we have the dramatic and dynamic Ankimo-style anime songs, complete!
— Unlucky Morpheus is releasing their first anime tie-up single, "Sekai Rinne," which will be the opening theme for the TV anime "Why Does Nobody Remember My World?" starting on July 13. Considering the flow from their first album as Unholy Orpheus, "What is DEATH?" released in May with its strong melodic death metal influence, this new development is very intriguing. Shiren, was this an intentional move on your part?
Shiren: Yes, it was. The "What is DEATH?" album released under Unholy Orpheus was originally planned to be released together with Unlucky Morpheus's album "evolution" (released in 2022) as counterpart albums. However, due to timing, "evolution" came out first. With this new tie-up, I see "What is DEATH?" as a good contrasting work to "Sekai Rinne." I hope fans enjoy the wide range of our music.
— As you mentioned, the title track "Sekai Rinne" of this single maintains the powerful sound typical of Ankimo, while also featuring standout melodies and catchy elements characteristic of anime songs. Ankimo has previously released pop-sensible tracks like "Amaryllis" (included in "evolution"), so this isn't entirely unprecedented.
Fuki: The "evolution" album we released before was driven by its vocals throughout. Among the tracks, "Amaryllis" had a particularly anime-song-like context, and I think it resonated with fans as a track that could easily fit into an anime, both in melody and vocal tone. In that sense, "Sekai Rinne" is simply a natural outcome of the melody and singing style the song called for. However, this is our first time creating an actual anime tie-up song as Ankimo, so this marks a turning point for the band. This single is likely to reach the largest audience we've ever had, making it very significant for us.
youtube
— Since we have the opportunity, I'd like to ask the instrumental members about their feelings when this tie-up was decided.
FUMIYA: For me, it felt like "finally, the time has come." Even though we call Ankimo a metal band, within the realm of metal, we do fairly understandable things, and I think we are a good introductory metal band. We've had anime song-like tracks like Amaryllis before, so honestly, I feel like "finally."
Ogawa: I think there were probably quite a few fans of Ankimo who thought it would be great if we did an anime song someday. Of course, we ourselves had thought so for a long time, but as an indie band, it's hard to come across such opportunities. So I feel like we've finally achieved one of our goals.
Jinya: In reality, getting a tie-up without belonging to an agency and working independently is uncommon, so I feel very grateful for this opportunity, which came about through various fortunate encounters and the efforts of those around us.
Jill: I also feel "finally...!" In all our activities so far, one of my two big dreams was to have my project be responsible for an anime opening. I've been involved in anime background music through recording work before, but having the chance to do an anime opening with my own band is very exciting. Plus, I personally love anime songs. I've posted "played with cosplay" videos of songs like "Gurenge" and "Homura" (both by LiSA) from "Demon Slayer" and "Guren no Yumiya" (Linked Horizon) from "Attack on Titan" on my YouTube channel. So in that sense, I'm very honored to be directly involved in the anime world this time.
— Since it's an anime OP theme, the length is fixed at 1 minute and 30 seconds, so I think you must have been mindful of the elements unique to tie-up songs during the composition process. Shiren, what points did you particularly consider this time?
Shiren: The most important thing in making an anime song is whether it fits "Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World?" I paid a lot of attention to how this song would resonate within the work. The primary focus was to create a song for this work, and then I thought about how to make it sound like Ankimo.
Fuki: I also wanted to make a song that even people who don't know Ankimo would be intrigued by. And of course, I made sure to showcase the charm of vocalist Fuki.
Shiren: In terms of sound, we don't usually use digital synths that much in Ankimo. But this time, since "Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World?" features futuristic weapons and has a fantastical world view, I used digital synth sounds to express that feeling. Although, the fantastical world view is something Ankimo is inherently good at. Regardless, I always kept in mind that it was a song for the anime. The time signature also matches the anime's length.
— Could you explain a bit more about what you mean?
Shiren: In "Sekai Rinne," the B melody has an irregular time signature, with a mix of 7/4 and 4/4 time. It fit perfectly to match the song's length. At first, I tried to match it with regular 4/4 or 3/4 time, but it didn't feel quite right. Then I thought maybe an irregular time signature would fit, and it did. The unusual B melody would not have existed if the song length wasn't fixed for an anime (laughs).
— When creating the sound, was there anything you kept in mind considering it would be aired on TV?
FUMIYA: No, the sound is the same as usual. "Sekai Rinne" isn't an overly metallic song to begin with, so the drums aren't very prominent. But I included my individuality where needed, so in that sense, I approached it with the same balance as always.
Shiren: I think I'm the only one who considered how it would sound on TV. It was the first thing to think about as the composer. During the mixing stage, I also thought about how it would sound through TV speakers. The other members focused on how to enhance the demo I presented.
FUMIYA: Exactly. Shiren composed the song with an awareness of it being an anime song, so I just made sure not to deviate from that.
Ogawa: My stance was pretty much the same, and it felt similar to when we recorded Amaryllis. I didn't particularly worry about it being on TV or an anime song.
Shiren: Since we're making music in Japan, I think we all have some understanding of what anime songs are like. Even if we're not consciously aware, there's probably an unconscious imprint. That shared understanding naturally came through in this song.
Jinya: Shiren included all the necessary elements for an anime song in the track, so I focused on delivering excellent metal play true to Ankimo. I think the significance of Ankimo doing an anime song lies in that. Many can make metal-like anime songs, but only Ankimo can deliver our unique metal in an anime song. As a player, my approach didn't change. The only difference was when the mix came up, I suggested minor adjustments to better fit an anime opening.
— Earlier, Shiren mentioned using digital synths to represent the futuristic elements of "Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World?" Did this create any conflicts between the synth and the violin?
Jill: No, not at all (laughs). From the moment I heard the demo and saw the score, I understood what needed to be expressed in this song. I focused on playing phrases that would be easily received by listeners within the short duration of an anime song. That might have been a bit different from usual.
— Besides the sound creation process, I think the lyrics were also important for "Sekai Rinne." Did you receive any materials in advance from the other party?
Fuki: When we received this offer, I read the original light novel "Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World?" The novel was serialized from 2017 to 2020 and is currently being serialized as a manga. The anime adaptation was based on specific parts, so I bought and read the entire original work. The lyrics were written after fully understanding the story.
— After submitting the first draft of the lyrics, did you receive any additional orders or revisions from the other party?
Fuki: There were none. I think it's fair to say that the original author approved of the lyrics.
Let's put on a truly metal live performance!
– That's amazing. Even though there are various kinds of anime songs, some lyrics don't have much to do with the original work or the anime's content. However, the fact that "Sekai Rinne" is closely aligned with the original work will surely gain the trust of fans who may not know Unlucky Morpheus. By the way, the title of the song "Sekai Rinne" is—
Fuki: "Sekai Rinne" is an important keyword that appears in the original work. Of course, the anime covers up to a certain point, so I wrote the lyrics in a way that avoided including elements that would spoil the ending or reveal too much. I often depict the stories in my head in my lyrics, and I'm good at that, so writing lyrics that reflect the original content through my filter was really fun this time.
– There are also many unique readings of the kanji in the lyrics, aren't there?
Fuki: Actually, all of them are words that appear in the original work. I used the original hiragana and katakana readings as they were. So, I think the fans of the original work, manga, and anime will feel that the lyrics are written with a proper understanding of the story.
– As a vocalist, how did you approach singing "Sekai Rinne" during the recording?
Fuki: I used all the pop and catchy elements from both my repertoire and Unlucky Morpheus's. To put it more simply, I could sing it in a cooler style, but I consciously aimed for a singing style that would be easy and appealing for anime song listeners.
– Your voice sounds graceful and expansive.
Fuki: The emotional focus of the song is higher than usual. I wanted it to be a song that would catch your attention and make you want to watch when it came on TV.
– This makes me look forward to the broadcast date. I want to watch it live on TV when the caption "Sekai Rinne" by Unlucky Morpheus appears!
Shiren: Ah, the caption is definitely a unique feature of anime songs (laughs).
Jinya: Well, these days, you can watch on various streaming services too. Even if you don't watch it live, you can enjoy it in your own style at your convenience.
Fuki: We've been talking about TV, but I'm sure many people will watch it on their smartphones or PCs. At the recent advance screening ("Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World?" Advance Screening), many attendees said they were moved to see "Unlucky Morpheus" briefly appear in the lower right corner of the big screen at the Ikebukuro cinema (Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro).
– I hope many people discover Unlucky Morpheus through "Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World?" and "Sekai Rinne."
Fuki: Unlucky Morpheus will be 16 years old this October, but in the early days, we even sold CDs by hand at Comiket. People who knew us back then but don't know the recent Unlucky Morpheus might think, "Unlucky Morpheus doing anime songs?" I hope "Sekai Rinne" will remind those who were aware of our doujin activities and think, "Unlucky Morpheus is still around?" (laughs). It's not a negative thing at all. I'm very happy to have people who have known Unlucky Morpheus for a long time. I hope both metal fans and non-metal fans will be surprised and delighted by this.
– By the way, the single also includes a coupling song, "Ready for a new stage," which seems to be a track that metal fans will love. It feels like a classic melodic speed metal tune that is typical of Unlucky Morpheus.
Shiren: Since "Sekai Rinne" is a bit unusual for Unlucky Morpheus and represents new ground for us, we wanted to offer something contrasting as the coupling track. When bands make their major debut, they often get criticized for changing to a more commercial sound (laughs). If anyone feels uneasy after hearing "Sekai Rinne," I'd like them to listen to "Ready for a New Stage." If "Sekai Rinne" was made entirely for the anime, this one was made purely for Unlucky Morpheus, delivering ultra-classic melodic speed metal.
Jinya: Metal fans can rest assured (laughs). If Unlucky Morpheus released this as a single, this song might have been the title track.
Shiren: People who have known Unlucky Morpheus for a long time and listen to this single after a while might think, "Oh, this is the kind of music they're doing now" with "Sekai Rinne," but then with "Ready for a New Stage," they might feel, "Nothing's changed! They're still evolving!" which would be ideal.
FUMIYA: The drumming is explosive on this one. I went all out.
Ogawa: The recording schedule was quite tight, but since it's a song that showcases our strengths, we managed to pull it off.
– I'm delighted to hear a violin solo in "Ready for a New Stage."
Jill: The overall song is classic and straightforward, but I felt a bit of a mysterious vibe, so I played the violin solo with a slightly Arabian nuance in mind.
– Each part has a spotlight during the interlude, making it a very satisfying song to listen to.
Shiren: For those who are hearing Unlucky Morpheus for the first time with this single, "Ready for a New Stage" will likely be the second song they hear. I wanted the violin solo to stand out against the other parts playing classic metal sounds, showcasing the unique character of the violin. If you think of the structure as introduction, development, turn, and conclusion, the turn is the violin solo.
– Regarding the lyrics of "Ready for a new stage," Fuki, you mentioned earlier that this single is a turning point for the band. In that sense, "new stage" seems to refer to the future beyond this turning point.
Fuki: Yes, that's the feeling I put into the lyrics of "Ready for a new stage." Additionally, this song is connected to "Change of Generation" (from the 2012 release 'Parallelism・β'), our first original song from 2012, which conveyed our intention to carry the next generation of heavy metal. We have continued to cherish and perform it as a live staple. "Ready for a new stage" is a 2024 answer song to "Change of Generation." It also conveys the message that even if anyone is worried about Unlucky Morpheus doing anime songs, they needn't be because we will continue to evolve and show you the "new stage = next world" you love about Unlucky Morpheus.
– Both "Sekai Rinne" and "Ready for a new stage" have different colors but proudly carry Unlucky Morpheus's spirit.
Fuki: I'd be very happy if you feel that way!
– When can we expect to hear these new songs live?
Shiren: We're currently on a one-man tour ("Unlucky Morpheus 15th Anniversary Live Tour 'REINCARNATION'"), and we'll start performing the new songs around August. The first performance will likely be in Kanazawa on the 3rd. The tour will continue intermittently until November, so we hope both long-time fans and those who discovered us through "Sekai Rinne" will come to our shows.
Fuki: Speaking of live shows, we're holding a "Rowdy Only Live" at Kichijoji CLUB SEATA on October 14, the day after Unlucky Morpheus's anniversary on October 13.
– That's quite an intriguing live title.
Shiren: In the past, Unlucky Morpheus used to have really chaotic live shows, but with our fanbase now consisting of all ages and the COVID-19 pandemic, we haven't had such chaotic shows for a long time. However, aside from wanting everyone to see us, I also believe that live shows are all about going wild, so this time we decided to clearly announce a "Rowdy Only Live." Let's put on a truly metal live performance!
– That's the spirit.
Shiren: When I saw CHILDREN OF BODOM live at SHIBUYA-AX, I was deeply impressed by the chaotic floor, and it has influenced me greatly. It's not about getting hurt, but I want everyone to experience the fun of going wild, screaming, and enjoying the show. The ticket sales page even has a pop-up asking if you're okay with a rowdy live show before you apply (laughs).
– I think it's wonderful for Unlucky Morpheus, a band that prides itself on being an entry point to metal, to actively promote the joy of experiencing metal live.
Shiren: It's not about getting hurt. Let's all enjoy the fun of going wild and crazy!

Lycoris Recoil: Recovery Days
Author: Asaura
Illustrator: Imigimuru
Label: Dengeki Bunko
Release Date: 8 March 2024
My Score: 4/5
This a new short story collection for Lycoris Recoil. While the title is Recovery Days, I feel like there are only a couple of stories here that really fit that theme...
In the first story, Chisato discovers that Takina doesn't understand the appeal of going to the cinemas and makes it her mission to fix that. It's short and sweet. What's not to like?
In the second story, Ito drags Chisato and Takina in to model for her new manga. I have to say, even though it's been almost two years since the anime aired, Chika Anzai's and Shion Wakayama's performances are so iconic that it was still easy for me to recall their voices while reading their lines. This one had a few fun moments, but also had a lot of descriptions of guns, which I found boring.
I've got to be honest: I did not pay much attention to the next story as it was not Takina and Chisato-centric, and focused on a character who, to my knowledge, has no connection to any existing characters or events from the series. It focuses on a man who has left a yakuza group and is intent on getting revenge on the killer of the head of the yakuza group. The best part of it is an illustration of the girls going undercover in disguises.
The fourth story more than makes up for it in ChisaTaki content. In this one, Chisato gets sick and Takina looks after her. It's so sweet and cute. It is what I imagined when I heard the words "Recovery Days" and is everything I wanted from this collection.
The next story is Fuki-centric (!) and follows Sakura and Fuki on a mission. As excited as I was to see a Fuki-centric story, I have to say this one didn't appeal to me much. A lot of it is gun battles, which isn't something that I like to read in LN format. Still, it was nice to see Fuki again and so good to finally have a story where she's the focus. I'm still shocked there hasn't been a Fuki manga spin-off or something yet.
The final story is similar to the zombie story from Ordinary Days, except this time it's playing with horror movie tropes. Takina and Chisato wake up in a lodge with no memory of how they got there and soon discover they are being chased by a man with a machete. They quickly decide that it's a dream, and discuss various horror movie tropes while trying to survive. There's a weird thing in this story: the black guy dies first trope is not mentioned here. The reason why this is weird is that Mika is in this story, and true to the trope, Mika dies first. It's not even lampshaded. Instead, Chisato and Takina reason that Mika died first because he's the sexiest. I mean, yes, he is, but it's weird that this trope is not brought up at all when it's such a well-known one. Anyway, this one was okay. I don't think it was as fun as the zombie story, but it has some good ChisaTaki moments.
The volume wraps up by going back to that first story, showing Chisato and Takina after they watch the movie. It's cute and a good way to end the volume.
This was a good collection of stories that reminded me of how much I enjoyed the anime and how much of a good pairing Chisato and Takina are. I'm not sure that a lot of the stories really fit the theme of "Recovery Days", but it was a good time regardless. Also, I really appreciated how many illustrations there were in this volume. Every chapter had at least one illustration to accompany it and they were all top quality and well placed. I recently read the Frieren light novel short story collection, where the cover was the only real illustration, so I appreciated this a lot.

Find the Word Tag
Thank you so much @dogmomwrites for tagging me.
Tagging: @theskeletonprior @mariahwritesstuff @eccaiia & an open tag! Your words are: Find, Jump, Music and Pass
My words are: ready, neither, pick, and shove
Ready:
“I hope the secret meat was enough to give you a chance to keep up with me.” He was, once again, too close and his smile was too confident. She instinctively reached for her knives, but stopped before pulling them. This time she was sure words was better than violence.
“Are you sure about that? Because I think you might need some more of it.” She flashed him a smile, before mounting her bike. “Ready?”
He got onto the ATV and they placed themselves side by side outside the entrance.
“Do I get a kiss if I win?”
She had to laugh at the audacity. “As if that’s even possible!”
“Confident. I like that.” He gave her another one of those confident smirks. “I won’t go easy on you.”
This time she smiled back. “I wouldn’t want you to!”
Neither:
Sakura had almost forgotten about her other friends. Sandr was as much of a worry-wart as Fuki. Their similarities had been her excuse for telling them that they’d be great for each other. Not that they seemed to agree with her, though. She wasn’t really surprised. Neither of them cared about that stuff, but she needed some excuse to introduce them to each other. And this was the one they would question the least.
Yes, she did believe that they would be good together, but that hadn’t been her main reason. Sandr had looked down for a while now and she couldn’t think of a single person, better to get advice from. Fuki was always so logical and objective about everything. As long as it didn’t have to do with herself, of course.
Pick:
She rolled the throttle to pick up more speed. Why did ninety kilometers per hour feel like ten? This was a lot faster than she used to drive on these roads. Her brother’s house was only a short drive away, so why did it take so long to get there?
Her eyes scanned every stone and metal bush in sight. This wasn’t an occupied road so if he was here, she would see him. Nothing. When she reached Yuki’s house, she hadn’t seen a single sign of him on the way.
Shove:
Fun Fact: Gideon is the only one born into one of the big families, that doesn't follow a naming theme. The Petals have a theme of Japanese flowers and spring. He does, however, have Poppy as his Finders Label.

How do you reckon an evil Hua arc could go/could have gone?
Well first, the setup is important.
See, we want Hua in character, but by its construction, the HoS arc was Hua ACTING OUT OF CHARACTER... because she was never Hua. Our Hua's wayyy too steadfast, and I don't want to mess that up.
So for an evil Fu Hua, I think we'd need to have Hua be driven to mild insanity by trauma, grief or an external factor like SWARA or the Honkai. Maybe a combination. How about an obsession, too?
If we go by what the HoS arc originally SEEMED to be going for... (beautiful bamboozle that arc trailer)
youtube
We can have it be Hua yoinked back into her body because say, Kevin gave her feather back to Otto and he put it back there, and so she's stuck and in pain and doesn't know if Kiana's alright; maybe the Honkai torments her with how she keeps failing her mission and her loved ones, mistakes from a painful past she'd forgotten, etc etc.
So, eventually, she's well enough to break out. Hell, if Otto's around, I can see her beating the crap out of him since he shot her in the face last time they met— but mostly likely she'd go for efficiency, so you'd have a newly Herrscher'd Hua who's unconsciously emitting a ton of Honkai and slaughtering security bots that Otto's trying to contain her with. In that case, she'd mostly just kill Otto because she needs to go through him. Maybe say something cold about how that's how his friends treat one another, considering, you know, he's got his little friend spiel even though he SHOT HER IN THE FACE.
(Seriously they should've let Hua come with Dudu and Kiana to beat him up in Kolosten.)
I don't think she'd care to go find Kevin beyond making sure Kiana escaped him, unlike HoS. Like... evil Hua isn't gonna try and bond with an old comrade, she'd just bulldoze her way through things until she finds her objective. She's stubborn after all! And here I think her priority would be Kiana, given that she left her alone and in danger. Also Fuki's a great ship.
At that point of the timeline, Kiana's with AE, but unlike with HoS, after brutalizing World Serpent HQ for information, she'd go looking for Kiana rather than wait on Mount Taixuan with illusions. So you'd have a lot more active walking disaster.
Not sure when/how she'd notice that she did not come back quite right this time. If she has a quiet moment to reflect, probably quickly? But I kinda want her to... not. Like, Hua needing to get snapped out of it, and in the meantime sweetie's having a grand ol time making a huge mess of things while obsessed with finding Kiana.
You have fun, Hua dear, okay? They'll stop you when they stop you. You earned this.
Then it'd depend whether Hua finds Kiana first, or if AE figures out there's a Herrscher on the loose and Kiana + Bronya go and confront her, only to realize it's their good old class monitor.
THEN I GUESS HUA SNAPS OUT OF THE OBSESSION, REALIZES SHE'S A HERRSCHER, AND THIS TIME WE GET SHATTERED SAMSARA BUT WITHOUT HOS BEING A DIFFERENT PERSON and that honestly makes it even darker coz Hua didn't actually want to kill HoS but she'd have no such qualms against herself
If my memory is correct (too lazy to check rn) that's actually something the devs have said themselves, they wanted a Herrscher to become Fu Hua, rather than Fu Hua becoming a Herrscher, because she'd self-terminate immediately if she thought she was a threat like a Herrscher.
Fun!

ohh do you like kiamei? bingo time
Oooh a good one!
Kiamei has never actually appealed much to me mostly because the lack of conflict makes it a bit boring. Sure, nagazora happened and all of that, but they never really had anything to solve between them before or after that unlike something like meihua or fuki could provide.
In my eyes, they're more fun when they're part of a polycule with someone else and their best moments were during arc and shortly after nagazora, where the conflict went through the roof. Maybe I'm just a sucker for angst tho lol

The Komi Report - Communication 449
This week in Komi Can't Communicate!
A soup conflict...
...and a Kawai impersonator.
Read It: Mangareader Mangakakalot Viz Media (North America Exclusive) Mangadex (English updates are dead, but there’s the backlog; and Spanish + Portuguese language updates)
No yuri in this chapter, so this one's terrible........
Just kidding! When I made the last report I was in a really bad mood (I was having a bad week), so I was more cynical about the chapter than I actually feel. My apologies 🙇♀️
Like the previous one, this chapter is so much fun! The soup team has a lot of chemistry, and I really like Shota Koris characterisation - a stern and blunt perfectionist who rubs people the wrong way, but he's not rude deliberately; he's just oblivious. It's interesting! And the running gag about the absurd lengths he goes to for his perfectionism is big fun
Nanoda playing the straight man for these goofballs is so good. And they're so cute together??? It's a delightful combination of personalities.
Characters we've gotten to know as individuals (with the exception of Tsubo) being mixed together like this for the first time... this is exactly what I was thinking of when I said the culture festival can be a vehicle for character interactions. I love it!
They're so cute...... and they way she thought of making it easier for Fuki.... I cry.....
Soup pun!!! 🫵🫵🫵🫵
Wow. Okay. This hurt... my poor darling Fuki....
The tension is thick in this scene. The tense and uncomfortable mood is made worse by how fun the atmosphere was only a moment ago.
I love these conflicts in KCC; people clash and have problems because they don't understand each other. They communicate in different ways, or aren't able to communicate "appropriately" or conventionally, and resolving interpersonal conflicts relies on establishing a foundation of understanding and respect.
Kori is being an asshole... but he's not acting this way because he wants to hurt the others; he's just in his own world. It's a fun conflict.
Ogiya manages to look cool event though he has a pacifier in his mouth (every Ogiya appearance)
I understand what she's saying here... but Komi has experienced people doing things just because she's pretty every day of her life. Like that happens constantly. She is worshiped on the street. Her first culture festival planning session involved everyone suggesting ideas that they specifically wanted to involve Komi in. They did a Maid Cafe so they could see Komi in a maid uniform.... askdjalksdnlaksndlaksnd
Nevertheless, it was unnecessary for Komi to take the blame for the Kori situation, so this works.
I bet she's fucking fuming. Nanoda is repressing rage.
I wouldn't be surprised if he personally butchered animals for those bones aslkdnlaksndlkansldasd
This moment specifically is when I firmly decided Kori is a winner for me. His criticisms were unnecessarily cruel, but then he actually goes and backs them up with constructive action. Everyone sees that he's not just some rude prick, he's genuinely invested in the project... and he trusts Fuki with a valuable and productive job.
People who laugh when they're uncomfortable raise your hands
✋(I'm raising my hand)
Komi!! Forge your own path!! Find your own Sensha-do!!
I am pleased to see the narrative consequences of the visit to Yushushin play out in this way. This chapter gave us a great story about some beloved side-characters and a nice Komi story-beat at the same time. We love to see it. Very efficient. Very fun ^w^
-------------------------------------------------
uwa!!!! I'm stuffed with emoi...... and the iced coffee I've been drinking....
I think I've made it clear already but I really loved this chapter (and also the previous one. Spinoff yuri manga about SukiYama when?)
Until next week, my dear reader, I wish you safety and pleasure.
I'll see you soon!

CH. 5
A/N: Kill code has a no swearing function and you cant tell me i'm wrong.
3.
Teleportation felt weird, his head hurt... it made his body all tingly! It felt funky. Eclipse's thoughts came to a stop, where had he heard that word before? Funny, little, T R A T I O R, brother, kind, S T U P I D, adorable, perfe- F L A W E D, WEAK. Eclipse shook his head, those words weren't fun. Funky was fun, "fuky!" it was fun to say too!
KC looked at Eclipse, "where did you learn that?" Eclipse lifts his head off of his caretakers chest plate confusion written across his face, where had he learned it? The word, brother, popped into his head, "Buder!" he said confidently, yes he learned it from his brother! he was met with a sharp flick on the nose "don't say that" Eclipse clasped his nose in retaliation. Now KC wouldn't be able to flick his nose, "Fuky!" he was met with a sharp glare, "sorry" Eclipse was about to lay his head back down before he was abruptly set onto the floor.
No fair! He didn't wanna walk! KC gripped his little hand tightly, dragging him down the Pizza plex hall. So many colors! those yellow bots looked neat! The bot in question turned to look at the duo, Eclipse waved, the bot went back to work. Eclipse was much too busy looking around, to think about where they were going, he never paid attention to the rest of the plex before. Something grabbed his free hand and forced him to face them, "HERE HAVE A MAP" Eclipse screamed.
Eclipse held his new map tightly in his hand, dried tear marks prominent on his face. He tripped up the escalator, why wasn't it moving? His stomach felt icky, why did it feel icky? Something built up in his throat, it didn't feel good, he wanted it out! He stopped moving, only bending away from his gown to spit up onto the already gross carpet. KC's grip tightened as he dragged Eclipse along making the child step in a puddle of his own sick.
Eclipse whined, he wanted to go back to the lab! he was tired, and his tummy felt gross, his head felt gross, his foot felt gross, he felt gross! a door opened and he was suddenly assaulted by very loud music. Eclipse covered his eyes, whatever room they went to was too bright, too loud, and... too... well everything. the death grip on Eclipse's wrist readjusted so the child faced KC "I am going to collect you after this illness leaves your body, I have no time to worry about something so small" Eclipse was pushed towards the slide... wait slide? No... Eclipse turned to look at KC who was already taking his leave.
"wai! don' foget me!" Eclipse stumbled towards the door as it slammed shut.
Eclipse whimpered, he pulled at the door, he pushed, it wouldn't budge. Fresh tears careened down his face as he felt pressure build up in his throat again. He wanted Harvest, he wanted the gross bowls of food, not this place! Everyone here hated him, and he hated them! Eclipse curled tightly into a ball, thumb making its way into his mouth as he nursed his heavy head on his knees. There was a thump behind him, Eclipse curled into himself, he wanted to go home.
"HELLO! My, My, what are you doing here all by yourself? Its much more fun down in the daycare!" Eclipse whimpered as he was hoisted up into the bots arms, "Oh my goodness you're burning up friend!" Sun brought Eclipse close to his body as they carefully made their way down to the ground level, "I'm sure some medicine and a nice nap will make you feel all better!" Eclipse tried pulling away from the stupid bot, but alas tiny exhausted toddler arms could not defeat a robot designed for taking care of children. His stomach rolled at the motion, his head spinning as Sun walked.
Eclipse gagged, the horrible feeling of bile going up his throat, "oh buddy hold on! can you hold it till we get to a bin little one?" Sun picked up the pace, at this point running to the security desks. The two hardly made it to the bin Eclipse scrunched his nose, it smelled gross. Sun gently rubbed the child's back. Much to Eclipse's dismay, he found the motion comforting and literally leaned into the enemy's hands. Sun whispered assurances in his ear as Eclipse sat poised over the bin.
Once a few minutes went by with no more vomiting Sun carefully collected Eclipse in his arms once more, making a mental note to empty the bin. "whats your name? I don't have you logged in on my data base" Eclipse swallowed, he could tell Sun his name, it could certainly get him kicked out, no normal parent named their kid Eclipse. On the other hand he felt safe in his what could have been brother's arms. His brain couldn't think of a solid lie, so as softly as he could he whispered "Eclipse" and Sun dam near dropped him.

Creative Squad Blurbs
Until I can get actual bios out for them. I'll start updating my MC:SM OCs pretty soon.
Ramona is a sweet and optimistic girl who loves to dream big, come up with plans, and make wishes on the stars at night. She always looks on the bright side of things. Despite having trouble with socializing from time to time, she’s patient, polite, and kind to everybody. She’s also the most creative out of the six, always brainstorming new ideas. Ramona has trouble remembering things, but she’s still brainy, kind, and willing to stand up for herself and her pals. She also allows herself to cry when she needs to. At home, she has a pet rabbit named Paisley. She is a second-year at Beacontown’s recently built local school, the Honeycomb School, which is a place where people can come learn how to live safely and securely in this big Minecraft world. She is autistic. Since she’s such a ray of sunshine, she’s the Unikitty of the group.
Jezabat is a curious person who likes learning about the world. Being knowledgeable about different things is very important to her. She’d like to go out exploring someday, but she’d rather just take it easy for now. She also wants to be prepared for anything. She enjoys brewing potions, as well as acting and dancing. Sometimes, she doesn’t think things through all the way. She tends to take things rather seriously, and she doesn’t have much of a sense of humor. She’s also quite bossy and prefers to do things her own way. Nonetheless, she’s loyal to her friends. Jez knows that she's still got a lot to learn and a lot to unlearn. She has about sixteen pet bats at home, and every day, a few of them follow her wherever she goes; her most recurring bat pal is named Gideon. She is also a second-year at the school, and she is also autistic. Since she’s level-headed and dry-humored, but she wouldn’t let her friends down, she could be the Richard of the group.
Lena is an inventive and collected friend of Jez's who is in the theater club with her. Her friends find her fun to converse with because she's a fantastic listener and is fun to talk to as well. She’s very smart, and she also likes to come up with plans. She takes a more logical look into situations, analyzing everything before she dives into something. She’s a smart and studious person who is open to pursuing knowledge. She also likes making music, learning about piglins and the Nether, acting, and reading. She's an avid superfan of the Twilight Forest book series (which references the mod). She has trouble watching her tone, but she makes an effort to make up for it. Lena is severely allergic to cats, pollen, some flowers and certain fabrics, so she often carries around elixirs to help manage them. She has a pet axolotl named Cedric. She is a third-year. Because of her inventiveness and smarts, she’s the Dr. Fox of the group.
Tanoshii, or Tano, is closed off most of the time, but their goofy, fun, and outgoing side is shown when they're with the gang. They don’t like to be disturbed. They don't sleep very often, so most of the time, they're half-awake, worn-out and running on any sustenance they can find (mostly carrots). They have strong abilities in music and illustration, and they're in the same music class as Lena. They're also good at crafting, combat and demolitions. They're quite anti-social and brash, and they’re very, very rough. Their hands are often pretty beat up. They still love to talk, and they have a great sense of humor. They struggle with depression. They have a pet parrot at home named Fuki, and they don’t attend the school. They are autistic like Ramona and Jezabat. They’re the Hawkodile of the gang; like him, they’re adventurous, daring, and athletic as well.
Tristan is a pretty shy kid. While he does have basic redstone knowledge, he's having an identity problem at the moment. He's been around for a while, but he still doesn't know what his calling is. He's a pretty big fan of the New Order, and he’s often seen hanging out with the Creative Squad. He's interested in going out and having an adventure because he hopes it will help him find himself. His crisis affects his ability to make decisions, but he is supportive, helpful, playful and plucky. He's also thoughtful, too, since he cares for his friends and his pet frog, Bart. Tristan’s crisis has affected his self-esteem quite negatively, since he sometimes thinks that his life probably has no purpose. He also can’t eat certain things like porkchops or fish because they give him very bad stomach aches and make him swell up. He's a first-year. He’s a well-intentioned follower who’s still finding his place in the world, so he’s the gang’s Puppycorn.
Deepa is a charming and peppy girl who's pretty well-known by her schoolmates. She almost always says whatever comes to her mind, and she speaks out if something unfair is going on. She’s adventurous, merciful and calm, but she gets overwhelmed if there are too many things happening at once. She’s also very clumsy when it comes to combat; the best she can do is fire arrows. Deepa is very interested in the arts. She’s a fan of reading and writing, and she also has an eye for style. Even though she's not 100% coordinated, she's encouraging to her friends and herself. At home, she has two pet dogs named Tara and Mira. She is a fourth-year, meaning it's her last year at Honeycomb before she’s done. She is the Swanna of the group because she’s adventurous, fashionable, and doesn’t officially join the gang until later in the story. She used to be a Unikitty OC before she became an MC:SM OC.
