"Pourquoi c'est nous les méchants alors qu'on est chez nous? "
- 'Why are we the bad guys even though this is our home? '
"On existe, on a des droits! "
- 'We exist, we have rights!'
Isn't crazy that today, in 2024, a young adult still has to defend her rights and the legitimacy of her culture? Isn't it crazy to see a young adult exclaim 'we exist' with so much emotions only to be recognized.
How can you claim to be the country of Human Rights (Le pays des Droits de l'Homme) and repress people in violence, kill children like dogs in the streets for being the "wrong" colour?
The worst thing in this? It's only racists who do that. It's only politicians (not all of them mind you) who support that violence. Most people in France and in New Caledonia know this is wrong.
Do not forget the weight of history. Colonialism wasn't done in peace amongst flowers and butterflies. Look at the violence and racism. Look at the people! Because they are people! These are people! Does money justify taking a life? Does colour?

To my French cousins:
Till today, I wasn't sure that France had entered the competition for "the best government money can buy." Not that the UK hasn't been giving the world leader the USA a good run for the money.
