The Terror of the Fugitive Slave Act By Rachel Dworkin, Archivist
[first published January 17, 2022] Earlier this month I got the coolest gift for my birthday. And by I, I of course mean the museum, but the donation came on my birthday, so I’m counting it. The gift in question was a letter from Mary and Seymour Fairman of Elmira to Mary’s parents in Fredonia, dated July 8, 1845. In the letter, the Fairmans talked about Elmira’s small, but growing, Black community and the problem of slave catchers. (READ MORE)

"Uncovering Ancestors at Canfield Black Cemetery"
youtube
Volunteers worked to clean up a historic Black cemetery in Canfield on Saturday. Volunteers have been working for 28 years to have the historic cemetery recognized and preserved.
The Canfield cemetery is the subject of a docuseries called Canfield Roots. The series shares some of the stories of the Black families who made Canfield their home.

The toppled gravestone of W.M. Alexander Barnes has been discovered in the cleanup process at a historic Black cemetery in Canfield.
The newly unearthed grave marker of Stepney Street, Aileen Duncan's great-great grandfather a freedom seeker who fled slavery in the United States using the underground railway. He was the first person to be buried in this black cemetery in Canfield. His wife Lucy Canada joined him in Canada via the underground railroad sometime after him bringing with her the oldest of their young children.
She found Stepney by putting an advertisement in the newspaper when she arrived. The couple went on to have 13 children. Other family members are assumed to be buried in the cemetery but their gravestones have not yet been located.

dumbass people online don't even think of us as of human beings, all they fucking do is make MeMeS 🤪🤪 about ww3 or ukraine DemAnDiNg MoNeY FroM TgE UsA. as if we were fucking homeless people in a need of charity. let me break it to you: WE DON'T LIKE IT EITHER, WE WOULD RATHER LIVE OUR LIVES IN A FREE COUNTRY THAN ASK YOU FOR HELP JUST TO BE HUMILIATED AND INVALIDATED IN THR END. BUT THAT'S THE WAY THINGS ARE FOR US NOW. unfortunately we don't have the privilege of living comfortably in a free country without electricity being turned off for like 16 hours daily and constant air raids. NO ONE would ever wish this to happen, everyone just wants to live a free careless life but oh well we live next door to russia aka a terrorist state and we cannot give in because then all our hopes for the brighter future would be crushed once and for all. we want OUR land FREED. we don't just ask for help because we find it entertaining or enjoy taking your money away, we ask for help because WE NEED HELP IN THIS FIGHT WITH RUSSIAN TYRANNICAL REGIME WHICH BRINGS NOTHING MORE THAN PAIN AND SUFFERING OF THE BLAMELESS
and for everyone who sees ukrainian civilians online posting something unrelated to war and immediately comments on their post with "it doesn't look like there's an ongoing war in your country" FUCK YOU. have you ever lived through war? or did you just watch several war movies and are now judging based on what you saw there? we cannot always post about the invasion, we can't always think about it because it'd drive us crazy. and in order to be able to help we have to be relatively sane. how should victims of the war act anyways?? like are there any rules or shit? maybe we should all eat from trashcans and cry 24/7 with no breaks?? if we all were crying and eating shit we found on the streets (because apparently when the war begins the economy stops working and you can't even find fine products to eat anymore and you are not obligated to work to pay taxes because taxes disappear along with economy idk??) would it look more convincing to you? or you would still find an excuse to invalidate our struggles?

Operation Northwoods
The tense relationship between the United States and Cuba during the Cold War led the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to hatch a slew of bizarre schemes aimed at taking down the Castro regime. While the goal of most of these covert operations (such as Operation Mongoose) was to assassinate Fidel Castro himself, other plans aimed to incite an all-out war between the U.S. and Cuba, experts have said.
In 1998, the National Security Archive (NSA) — a non-governmental organization that publishes information made available through the Freedom of Information Act — posted declassified documents related to Operation Northwoods. The scheme, dreamed up in 1962 by the Joint Chiefs of Staff (uniformed members of the U.S. Department of Defense who advise the president and others), involved committing acts of violence against U.S. and Cuban civilians and then blaming those acts on the Cuban government, according to the NSA documents. These acts, which included faked terrorist attacks in U.S. cities, the hijacking of planes and the sinking of boats full of Cuban émigrés en route to the U.S., would then be used to justify a war with Cuba, according to the documents.
The Kennedy administration recognized the folly of Operation Northwoods and rejected it, according to news reports.

something something henry talks about seekers and avoiders and most of the characters who make it to the final episode would be considered seekers in his view and most of the ones who perish before episode eight are avoiders :))))))))))
