In our history books, it will be called "The first genocide to be live streamed." Al Jazeera has compiled video evidence recorded by IDF terrorists themselves committing war crimes in Gaza. May this documentary--this evidence--be laid bear for all the world to see: Israel has undeniably been perpetrating a genocide against the people of Palestine and now Lebanon; with the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom as accomplices supplying endless weaponry with which to enact it. Until she fled Bangladesh on Monday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina governed as if she still had full legitimacy, even as students and protesters had been on the streets for days asking her to resign. The trigger for the demonstrationsâcivil service job quotas for Bangladeshi freedom fighters and their familiesâhad become a distant memory. Collective anger about years of human rights abuses, corruption, and rigged elections had coalesced into an uprising.
In a conversation over the weekend, Zonayed Saki, the left-leaning leader of the Ganosamhati Andolan partyâhimself a student activist against military rule in the 1990sâsaid, âThe peopleâs sentiment is that she has to go first. The government had lost moral and political legitimacy.â
Hasina believed that she was elected democratically. She won an unprecedented fourth term in a flawed vote in January, which most of the major opposition parties had boycotted and the United States, the United Kingdom, and human rights groups criticized for not being free or fair. Still, other major governments congratulated Hasina on the victory. The bureaucracy, the media, the police, and the army were on her side. What could go wrong?
Over the weekend, Hasina declared a curfew again, cut off the internet, and encouraged the youth wing of the ruling Awami League party to take to the streets. Trigger-happy security forces, who were blamed for the deaths of more than 200 people as the protests turned violent in mid-July, were out in full force. Nearly 100 more people died over the weekend, including 14 police officers; video emerged showing security forces shooting point-blank at nonviolent protesters.
Hasina spoke darkly of Islamists spreading terrorism by co-opting the protests, but the students remained undeterred. A long march was announced for Aug. 5 to demand her resignation. Hasina declared a three-day public holiday in response. But by midday Monday, she had resigned, fleeing the country in a helicopter. The first stop would be India and after that an unknown destination.
Meanwhile, the situation on the ground has turned volatile amid the power vacuum. Thousands of demonstrators rushed to the Ganabhaban, the prime ministerâs official residence in Dhaka, looting souvenirs and frolicking on the premises. People have also reportedly attacked the home of Bangladeshâs chief justice. There are also reports of the toppling of a statue of Hasinaâs father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who led Bangladeshâs independence movement and then ruled the country until he was assassinated in 1975. Mujibâs family home, now a museum, went up in flames in an act of grotesque retribution. These incidents stand in contrast to the disciplined and peaceful demonstrations led by students, who have urged for calm and were seen appealing to the looters to return stolen property.
Bangladeshâs army has called for calm, but it has not yet intervened. The countryâs armed forces overthrew elected governments in the 1970s and 1980s and attempted coups in later years. But now, the generals would naturally want to play it safe: They cannot afford to lose the confidence of Bangladeshis and are aware of the deep distrust that Bangladeshis have developed for the armed forces because their political interventions have weakened the countryâs democracy.
There is another calculation at play, too: Bangladesh is among the largest suppliers of soldiers to the United Nations peacekeeping forces, and it wonât antagonize the international community by letting its soldiers act at will. (Those peacekeeping arrangements mean the armed forces are less reliant on Bangladeshâs state budget.) In mid-July, when military vehicles with U.N. insignia were deployed on Dhakaâs streets, foreign diplomats rightly complained; Bangladeshi officials gave weak excuses and promised not to use U.N. equipment to settle domestic unrest.
Hasina seemed to have two options: to seek a graceful exit or to dig her heels in and let the troops take all necessary means to protect her regime. In the end, she fled. Where she will settle is unclear. India would pose problems for Prime Minister Narendra Modi; ruling party politicians have routinely criticized undocumented Bangladeshis in India, even creating legislation to identify and possibly deport them. The United Kingdom may be risky for Hasina because while it hosts many Bangladeshi immigrants, they include dissidents forced into exile during her 15-year rule as well as supporters of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Had Hasina dug in, there would have been bloody consequences. Even if the army had shown restraint toward the protesters, there is no telling if Bangladeshâs notorious border guards or the Rapid Action Battalionâwhich has faced criticism from human rights groupsâwould have acted responsibly. There has been violence on both sides, but it has come primarily from the Bangladeshi state. As of Monday, as many as 32 children had died, according to UNICEF.
By stepping aside disgracefully, Hasina leaves chaos in her wake. It is crucial that any interim administration restore order quickly, but it can only do so if it has the backing of the army. A list of bureaucrats, civil society veterans, and others who might form the nucleus of such a government has been released, but the situation is too fluid to consider such lists final. In the early 2000s, Bangladesh had an unelected but legitimate caretaker government to help assist its transition to democracy after a military interventionâwhich it did, paving the way for Hasinaâs election in December 2008.
Hasina has long demonized Bangladeshâs Islamist political forces. But Islamic fundamentalist parties have secured more than 10 percent of the vote only once, in 1991; in all subsequent elections, their vote share has been closer to 5 to 6 percent. Most Bangladeshis are Muslims, but they arenât extremists; in Bangladeshi American poet Tarfia Faizullahâs famous words, when a Pakistani soldier assaulted a Bengali woman in 1971 and asked her if she was Muslim or Bengali, she defiantly said, âBoth.â
The song accompanying many videos of the protests last week was from the pre-Partition poet Dwijendralal Ray, a Hindu, celebrating the golden land of Bengal. To see Bangladesh in binary termsâof Muslim or not Muslimâshows a profound misreading of a complex society. It reveals the myopia of external observers, notably analysts close to the current Indian government, who had invested hugely in Hasina and irrationally fear that an Islamic republic is the only alternative to her rule. In so doing, they frittered away some of the goodwill that India had earned in Bangladesh over the years, particularly for its support during the liberation war.
As a result, the current situation in Bangladesh will complicate things for Modi, Hasinaâs close friend. His government had invested hugely in their relationship, aiming to build a trade corridor across Bangladesh and seeking Bangladeshi support to curb separatism in northeastern India. This alienated India from Bangladeshis, who expected New Delhi to defend democratic forces in Dhaka. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, whom Hasina condemned and called a âbloodsucker of the poor,â chided India for not doing enough: South Asia is a family, he said in a recent interview, and when a house is burning, brothers should come and help.
With Hasina fleeing, India has lost an ally it thought it could rely on. The road ahead for Bangladesh will be difficult. Expectations will be high, and the people will want early elections. If those are free and fair, a different Bangladesh can emerge. Whether it will be consistent with the liberal, secular, democratic ethos that Bangladeshâs founders fought for remains to be seen.

Rayman Together Community Spotlight #1 - Rayman Collectibles & Merchandise
This exciting new series hopes to introduce you to Rayman Fans across the World on a more personal level and make you the reader feel more connected to the community. I look forward in the months ahead to showing you the many faces of the Rayman community and some of the exciting projects and accounts they are working behind. If you are interested in becoming a part of the Rayman Together Community Spotlight in the future please feel free to reach out through Twitter.Â
Rayman was published by French video game publisher Ubisoft in 1995. Since Rayman debuted on PlayStation and Sega Saturn, the series flourished after receiving outstanding reviews from critics and multiple publications. Rayman went onto spanning decades of videogame releases. Rayman was a Ubisoft Mascot until later years, when its various franchises such as Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Tom Clancy, and the Rabbids stole the spotlight.
After almost a decade, Rayman has slowly begun to creep back into the spotlight thanks to his return in Rayman in the Phantom Show. Ubisoft has begun to drip feed the loyal and patient Rayman community with various releases with collaborations from its multiple partners, such as Flyos, YouTooz, and Netflix. Rayman has made a major appearance in the Ubisoft Netflix series Captain Laser Hawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, Flyos is publishing the eagerly anticipated Rayman: The Board Game, and Youtooz has created Rayman figures and pin sets. YouTooz are even working on more figures, including an upcoming plush toy, collaborating with someone within the Rayman community.Â
Although it may seem Ubisoft never supported the franchise outside of digital releases until now, a lot of you may be unaware that during the "Golden Era" of Rayman, Ubisoft released often rather obscure and bizarre merchandise that was exclusive in Europe or often released without public knowledge.Â
I recently discovered the TikTok page RaymanCollectibles&Merch, which is managed by the extremely passionate Rayman fan Natasha Quinn from the United Kingdom. Natasha has collected various collectibles and merchandise throughout Rayman's history. I am delighted today to take an opportunity to showcase the Rayman Collectibles & Merchandise account as part of the very first Rayman Together Community Spotlight.
Please Introduce Yourself: "Hi I'm Natasha Quinn I live in Hertfordshire Stevenage in the United Kingdom."
Tell us something fun or interesting about yourself? "I have been collecting Rayman merch since 2016 but sadly lost most of it due to moving so restarting again in April 2023 where i have acquired a lot more then my childhood collection."
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? "I have two small dogs called dexter and Bailey which compete in fun dog shows. I also love to spend time drawing and making crafts in my spare time."
4. What are three things that make you smile? "The three things that make me smile are anything animal-related, cute videos, etc. I'm a huge animal lover. 2 Rayman (of course) 3 playing retro games from my childhood, reliving the memories mostly the PS1, PS2, and Game Boy handhold"
5. How did you get into the Rayman series? "I first got into Rayman when my dad got me an atomic purple GBC, which he called the game Rayman to go aside. I fell in love with the adventure and the colorful levels as well as the character Rayman himself, which I thought the fist throwing was a cool design! I remember getting excited about completing a level I would show my dad."
6. What is your favorite Rayman game and who is your favorite Rayman character? "Choosing a favorite Rayman game is hard, but I would have to say for memories and nostalgia alone, it would be the GBC version, although I realize it isn't a popular opinion, but closely following would be Rayman 2 & 3, as they are great games too! My favorite Rayman character is Rayman himself or Ly the fairy."
7. What is your favorite piece of Rayman merchandise you own, and why? "I think my favorite piece I own the last plush. I was lucky and won it in an auction, and weirdly enough, the smaller version went up for sale the same week, so I was lucky to own the pair!"
8. What is the rarest piece of Rayman merchandise you own? "The rarest piece I own is the Rayman Grimace mushroom figure given to staff members working on the Rayman 3 game, and only 100 were made. It's a beautiful statue, and I had to get it shipped from another country. I feel very lucky to have one."
9. Is there something in your Rayman collection that you donât own? "I would love to own the 25th anniversary coin. I have been searching each day, and I still have hope."
Thank you, Natasha, for participating in the very first Rayman Together community spotlight. It has been a pleasure getting to know you. I am a huge fan of your account. I look forward in the future to seeing what else you can collect. Hopefully, in the future, Ubisoft will help you get a Rayman 25th Anniversary Medallion. Who knows, maybe next year there will be a 30th Anniversary Medallion. If you enjoyed this spotlight and would like to follow and support Rayman Collectibles & merchandise, I have included links to her social media platform below.Â
Thank you for reading everyone and I look forward to seeing you in future Rayman Together Community Spotlights.

Lindybeige is Either an Idiot or an Asshole
Most Likely Both
--There could be more flattering ways to put it, but he's never once given us that favor so why should I. His videos are wildly speculative and often based in cherry-picked British sources, when they come with any sources at all - see his masturbatory piece about the Bren vs the âSpandauâ.
--There are two videos that I absolutely loathe at the edges of my youtube recommendations, both just filled to the brim with misinformation and logical contrivances. Videos that neckbeards will endlessly quote at me without question, taking a frustratingly long amount of time to untangle by which point they'd have usually lost interest already. The first one is Shadiversity's video about boob armor, the other is Lindybeige's video about the French Resistance.
--This video will have you believe that the French Resistance on its own did nothing of worth, based in great part on the fact that De Gaulle glamorized its contribution to the war for political status. I cannot stress this enough, just because De Gaulle used the general idea of the Resistance to smooth over a lot of Vichy war crimes and restore national unity does not mean the Resistance did not exist as a capable fighting force. --The very first more specific argument he offers to support his view -if you ignore âME AND ME PA FOUND THAT VERY FONNYâ- is that most of the French armor was American-made and provided through the lend-lease policy, making French people less deserving of credit in winning World War 2. I assume that in his mind that would diminish the contribution of the French Resistance to war efforts, even though these tanks and armored fighting vehicles were used by the Free French Army, not the Resistance at any point of its existence, making the point moot while also conveniently ignoring that the United Kingdom received ten times the aid France did through that same program.
--The image is from War Thunder because it makes for a better glamor shot than having it stand behind a museum fence or in black and white.
--His next argument implies that De Gaulle was "allowed" to walk in the liberated Paris ahead of Allied troops to give a speech that solidified the myth of the Resistance I mentioned. Again, in this passing, deceptive comment, Lindybeige implies that De Gaulle walked in after the fact and that Allied forces did the heavy lifting, only allowing him to do his speech a their convenience. Even a cursory amount of research will tell you that Paris was in fact liberated by the FFI, the Parisian people themselves and Leclercâs 2nd Armored Division composed of Metropolitan and Colonial French with Spanish elements, supported only on the very last day by the US 4th Infantry Division and a special British unit sent to gather intelligence. --Following this, he quotes the speech De Gaulle delivered in front of the town hall the day the German garrison surrendered, but cuts it short of the part in said speech mentioning âthe help of our dear and admirable Alliesâ to then call De Gaulle ungrateful, which I have a hard time believing could be anything but intentionally deceptive. He then goes on to claim that the French Resistance was not organized by De Gaulle but by the British, justifying the ludicrous claim with 'they didnât tell him because French intelligence services were bad and would have leaked all of itâ. This is of course ignoring the fact that De Gaulle had personally sent Jean Moulin back to France for the exact purpose of organizing the five big Resistance movements into one organization, which he did, creating the Council for National Resistance that played a major role in the liberation of Paris. How the British would have any hand in this may be explained by his further comments, where he goes on to say that agents of the organization preceding the MI6 had been infiltrated in the Resistance to organize it, which begs the question of who's responsible for it being a non-effective combat force if it had been the case. He then gives us a voice in a sarcastic tone by saying, âof course you and your British bias would say that !â but does not really address it. Because honestly yeah, you and your British bias would say that.
--After quickly rambling that there were too many people in France and not enough bushes for all people to join the Resistance, which I have to admit is an extremely pointed and pertinent thing to say in a video downplaying the efforts and suffering of thousands of people fighting back against Nazi occupation under constant threat of torture and execution if caught, he mentions that the German forced labor system had severely depleted Franceâs manpower of fighting age. He says that by 1944, only teenagers and decrepit middle aged men were left to fight in the Resistance, to the great disappointment of the British agents he mentioned earlier. According to him, this meant France lacked the manpower and the communication capability required to pull the Resistance off, which is again contradicted by the actions of Jean Moulin, who had seemingly managed to access both before his death.
--There are a few problems with that argument. The Service de Travail Obligatoire, STO for short, was a system put in place by Vichy France to supply Germany with civilian manpower to make up for their own shortfalls due to the Eastern front. Because Vichy had negotiated a relative independence compared to other occupied country, its own government was responsible for the order, although it was in almost every point similar to forced labor orders in Denmark or the Netherlands. Now the STO did deprive France of over six hundred thousand young men, many of them skilled workers. However as an incentive given by the Nazis, every three forced laborer sent to Germany would lead to the release of one French POW, meaning that as far as manpower was concerned, France pretty much lost only four hundred thousand men and received qualified military personnel for its trouble. Not only is it hardly the manpower drain pictured by Lindybeige, it also ignores that many of these forced laborers, my grandfather included, immediately skipped work and joined either the Resistance or Allied military regulars after operation Overlord, as they were not as tightly surveilled as POWs and minorities in concentration/death camps. It also bears mentioning that it was teenagers, dismissed by Lindybeige as a negligible quantity, that acted as reconnaissance troops for the Free French using their motorbikes to scout and guide the way to the German Kommandantur. In any case, most members of the FFI integrated the regular French army after the liberation of Paris, meaning they were definitely of fighting age. Of course that whole argument is dropped as soon as he brings in British involvement, at which point he finally points out how the Resistance disabled most of the railway network and stopped the famously lightning-fast German army from facing the Allied invasion properly. For their role in this sabotage, a hundred fifty Resistance members working for the French national railway company were shot and another five hundred deported.
--To put it simply, Lindybeige dismisses the Resistance as a useless, wasteful and infighting group of functional morons, while every successful operation they carried out, every display of good mobility and coordination is attributed to British uniformed soldiers overseeing it. In reality most of that effort was done by either agents of the French government in exile or the Allied command under Eisenhower, with no account mentioning any significant autonomous British involvement which stands to reason as De Gaulle and Churchill could not stand one another. In fact Lindybeige tries to pass off operation Jedburgh as a purely British operation while it was specifically a joint one with American, British, French, Belgian and Dutch operatives all along the Atlantic coast.
--The next part is baffling. Lindybeige points at the Allies stopping their shipments of weapons to the French Resistance after July 44 and justifies it by saying the various cells were fighting each other and were uncoordinated. Thank god the Brits stopped sending arms or there would have been a civil war between these silly French Resistance members. Of course what happened in August was the liberation of Paris followed by the integration of the FFI into the new French army, which would go on to liberate the rest of the country. But Lindybeige pushes this civil war angle pretty hard, calling at this point of the video both Vichy France and the Resistance to be pro French in a way and underlining the conflicts between the two as a reason why the weapon shipments stopped coming, with examples such as Resistance members exacting reprisals against Nazi collaborators, which is a completely moot point because Vichy France and collaborators had nothing to do with the Resistance and were in fact, at this point of time, recognized as the enemy by all Allied forces, meaning acts of resistance against them would in no way prompt Allied command to stop supporting the French Resistance. Lindybeige goes so far as to say that the OSS and British secret service stopping the weapon shipments in August 1944 legitimately prevented an outright civil war between the different cells of the French Resistance, which was in actuality pretty unified in its support to De Gaulle at this point thanks to the efforts of Jean Moulin as discussed previously. This hardly gels with the events following August 1944, where the members of the Resistance and FFI were enlisted in the Free French Army and were therefore issued American military equipment and training to function as regular troops. Now stop me if I'm wrong but it appears that in Lindybeige's mind all French people were ready to tear each other apart until the British stopped sending them pipe guns, after which the Americans sent them tanks which obviously disabled their ability to start a civil war.
--Two French colonial soldiers using a blend of Allied gear during the winter of 1944-45. They are presumably thinking of killing each other.
--Much like the Phantom Menace review this is addressing a piece of media were essentially everything is wrong, hence the length of this post. Lindybeige has obviously researched the topic to great length, then ignored half of it to record 17mn of vague, dismissive and unsubstantiated claim that each take an equal amount of time to debunk. He present the facts as if everything that happened on British soil was under British orders so as to make the French Resistance only effective on their accord, all the while disregarding the French government in exile and slandering the efforts of French people but also inadvertently of the Americans. It is my honest belief that this sad excuse of an historian is either profoundly lacking in literacy or actively trying to justify his xenophobia by bending WW2 historiography around his bias, and whatever it may be he should be deplatformed to avoid spreading more harmful and disrespectful lies about a group of brave men and women who fought to liberate their country from fascism.

tips for writing arab characters
writer here!! im a middle eastern writer whos noticed that theres a VERY significant lack of info on how to write arabs, so im here to help !! (however, keep in mind that im specifically gulf arab and may not be able to provide as much info on levant arabs or north african arabs. if there are any on here, feel free to reblog w more info !! )
dont get arabs mixed up w muslims. yes, a large portion of the arab population are muslim, but youd be surprised at the number of non-muslim arabs that exist. if you wanna write abt a muslim character, a post i made that might help is hereÂ
list of arab countries, with the adjective:
algeria â algerian
bahrain â bahrainiÂ
the comoros islands â comorans
djibouti â djiboutian
egypt â egyptian
iraq â iraqi
jordan â jordanian
kuwait â kuwaiti
lebanon â lebanese
libya â libyan
morocco â moroccan
mauritania â mauritanian
oman â omani
palestine â palestinian
qatar â qatari
kingdom of saudi arabia (ksa) â saudi
somalia â somali
sudan  â sudanese
syria â syrian
tunisia â tunisian
united arab emirates (uae) â emirati
yemen â yemeni
dialects/language:
dialects greatly differâthe egyptian dialect is the most common, followed closely by the levantine dialect
classic arabic is called fusha (fuss-ha), used in things like official documents, media, education. every arab knows it but its not used in day to day language except in media (all dialects basically come from fusha, but with slight changes)
'p' and 'g' (as in 'gurgle' or 'goal') dont exist in the arabic alphabet, theyre replaced with 'b' and 'j'Â
depending on where theyre from, they may also learn a third language besides arabic and english (e.g. moroccans know french, a berber arab may know berber)
appearance:
arabs look different based on where theyre from. if theyre from the arabian peninsula, they have thick curly dark hair, tanned skin, and dark eyes. levant arabs are lighter skinned, and green/blue eyes are more common with them
adding on to previous point, arabs have a variety of skin tones, even if theyre siblings. using a real example, me and my older brother respectively look white passing and afro hispanic
dark irises are considered better looking than lighter colored eyes. eyes are usually thick-lashed, with big round slightly upturned eyesÂ
big noses are common, along with full lips (and hereditary dark circles for those with more tanned skin)
high cheekbones and well structured faces are also prevalent
culture:
varies depending on location
influenced by indian culture, IS NOT INTERCHANGEABLE WITH INDIAN CULTURE. that was aladdins mistake
poetry is so common, especially with romantic themes
songs also have romantic themes
youd be surprised at how romantic arabs are
dances vary extremely, from dabke (palestinean dance done in groups, consisting largely of leg/foot movements) to yola (emirati dance with battle origins, done using canes or fake guns) i recommend watching videos (tiktok has a lot of videos esp of dabke)
women also dance but you wont find a lot of videos of it bc its inappropriate
etiquette:
things such as giving someone your back, or facing the bottom of your feet towards someone are considered rudeÂ
pda is also taboo (even with straight couples or even sometimes married couples)
cheek kisses are a common way of greeting, but not between genders
in some gulf countries, men greet each other with a nose kiss (not in an intimate way) just stubbing their noses against each other
genders do not mix at all. schools tend to divide girls and boys into two sections starting at a certain age (around age 10/11), and mosques are split into the mens side (usually larger than womens bc men use the mosque more)
having an extramarital relationship is very very taboo (even w hetero relationships) but it still happens. a lot.Â
family dynamics (note that this is obviously a spectrum. this is the general dynamic, but obv it ranges from family to family):
NOT ALL OF US HAVE ABUSIVE PARENTS. sure theyll spank you if you skip school, but thats not necessarily abusive. its more strict, and youd be surprised at the amount of freedom some parents give their kids
yes, arranged marriages do happen. no, they arent necessarily forced, it just means that your parents had a hand in deciding who youll marry. yes, marrying cousins is a thing, but its much less prevalent now (also, ew)
fathers care. a lot. they dont show it, but they do. they also tend to joke around a lot
mothers tend to be the rule enforcers, and by far our moms are our best friends. we tell them EVERYTHING i swearÂ
aunties gossip a lot
uncles are a safety hazard
its not uncommon to have a large number of cousins (mainly bc arabs tend to have a lot of kids)
the average number of children 3 per woman, but from personal experience the older the generation the more kids (e.g. my great-grandmother had a whopping thirteen kids, my grandmother had seven, my mom has six, but a couple of my aunts only have one or two)
social class/work environment/school environment:
schools tend to be either arab curriculums but there is a high density of american/british curriculum schools
boys and girls tend to be separated in school around age nine/ten but some schools will be mixed genders up till graduation
yes, women work, tho admittedly some of them tend to have careers more than jobs (e.g. photographer, writer, etc while the men handle engineering, economics, etc)
no, not all of us are rich. in fact, countries like jordan, egypt, tunisia, morocco, and yemen (and infamously palestine) are acc struggling w poverty. its mainly just gulf arabs who are rich
furthermore, gulf arabs may be generally rich but a large chunk of them have the same lifestyle as an upper-middle class family in the usa. rich but not too rich. dont be fooled by the videos of guys wearing kandoras and driving lambos
speaking of kandoras...
outfits (keep in mind that spelling may vary since its all transliteration, and pronunciation may vary depending on region) (also keep in mind that even if we still live in the middle east, WE CAN WEAR JEANS AND HOODIES AND BAND SHIRTS. just, usually cover up more in public):
abaya: loose overgarment worn by women
jilbab/chandoor: also worn by women, type of long dress or tunic
the white robe all of yall know is known as a thobe, dishdasha, or kandora
the colored headscarf worn by men is known as a ghuthrain in the gulf, kevfiah in the levant. its kept in place with a black cord called a aghal, and under it they wear a skullcap called a thagiyah
those are the most common ones, however if youd like to get a lil more specific on clothong, the ultimate guide to arab clothing is here (it also has specified clothing for individual countries)
hope this helps, feel free to reblog w more info if you have any !!

Erin In The Morning:
On Friday, numerous conservative accounts and news sources promoted headlines that the "American College of Pediatricians" had issued a statement against transgender care. A video accompanied the announcement featuring Dr. Jill Simons, who, wearing a white lab coat, states that there must be an end to "social affirmation, puberty blockers, and cross-sex hormones" for transgender youth. Despite the official-looking attire and name, the organization's name serves to mislead observers into thinking they are the much larger American Academy of Pediatrics, which represents tens of thousands of pediatricians. In reality, the ACP is a hyper-conservative Christian group of doctors created in 2002 to oppose gay parenting. In the announcement released on Friday, Simons called for an end to social transition and gender-affirming care for transgender youth. One video, which went viral, begins with a statement that the organization has released a "declaration" authored by the American College of Pediatricians, along with "hundreds of doctors and healthcare workers," opposing transgender care. It references the highly-politicized Cass Review from the United Kingdom, whose author controversially blames pornography for being transgender, as well as the Climategate-style leak of the âWPATH Filesâ to support the statement.
The video, which was viewed over 51 million times on Twitter, cuts off just before the next speaker is introduced: Dr. Andre Van Mol, who represents the Christian Medical and Dental Associations. Van Mol serves on the board of the Bethel Church of Redding, which made headlines in 2019 for attempting to pray a dead child back to life. He is followed by representatives from several other Christian medical organizations that also support banning transgender care. The website promoted at the event lists signatories to the statement, including the Catholic Medical Association, Genspect, The National Catholic Bioethics Center, the Family Research Council, and the Discovery Institute, an organization that promotes intelligent design over evolution in schools.
The American College of Pediatricians has been hugely influential in the promotion of anti-trans policy in the United States, relying in part to its misleading name. Members of the organization testify in state houses and courtrooms across the United States, misleading legislators into thinking they are the much larger American Academy of Pediatrics, the professional society that represents 67,000 pediatricians in the United States. In 2023, the organization inadvertently left a Google Drive public, leading to the leak of a massive trove of files showing their extremist roots. According to these documents, the group received significant donations from the Alliance Defending Freedom, a right-wing organization that has played a large role in the passage and defense of anti-LGBTQ+ laws in the United States. It also received free video production from Family Watch International, a group of Christian fundamentalists opposing homosexuality, birth control, abortion, and sex education. The American College of Pediatricians itself has been listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center since 2012, when the groupâs leader stated that âhomosexuality poses a danger to childrenâ and that the group was âessentially a Judeo-Christian values organization.â
[...] Despite the widespread misinformation, every major medical organization in the United States supports gender-affirming care. In February, the American Psychological Association, the largest psychological association in the world, released a policy resolution stating that gender-affirming care is medically necessary and saves lives. The American Academy of Pediatrics currently recommends that transgender youth have access to gender-affirming care tailored to their unique needs. The Advocates for Trans Equality maintains a list of over 30 of the largest U.S.-based medical organizations that support transgender care, including the Endocrine Society, the Pediatric Endocrine Society, the American Public Health Association, and the American Medical Association.
Anti-trans extremists such as X owner Elon Musk and numerous right-wing and anti-trans pundits and websites are touting a video from American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) Dr. Jill Simons issuing a statement opposing gender-affirming care for trans children.
In contrast to radical right-wing whacko group ACPeds, mainstream medical organizations support gender-affirming care as a medically necessary.
ACPeds is a radical right-wing medical group that is opposed to abortion, LGBTQ+ rights, and transgender rights, and has trafficked in COVID denialism and anti-vaxxer extremism.

â Introduction
Hello, everyone. I am Katsura Hashino, the director of Metaphor. Shin Megami Tensei III, Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5. We have been conducting a PR campaignâa world tour, if you willâand at Anime Expo which took place in Los Angeles, California, we provided details on the gameâs setting and story. In this ATLUS Exclusive Metaphor: ReFantazio story version, we would like to introduce more about the narrative and the characters. The registration for digital pre-order and wishlist are open, so please be sure to pre-order or wishlist. Before we begin I would like to preface just in case that this introduction is limited to the opening section of the story. However, for those who would like to enjoy the story without knowing anything at all, please feel free to end the video here and please look forward to the release of the title. Is everyone ready? Now it is time to begin this presentation on the story. We hope you will stay until the end.
â Premise of the Story
The game depicts a story of weaving bonds and becoming a king in a unique setting. The setting is a kingdom in turmoil rocked by a major incident in which the king is assassinated. The protagonist, a young boy, is on a journey with his partner, the fairy Gallica, to save a cursed prince. However, in the midst of all this an unprecedented election magic is invoked. The protagonist is swept into this unprecedented upheaval and ends up embarking on a journey around the world. In this exclusive showcase, let me share with you the beginning part of the story explaining why the protagonist decides to pursue the throne and some details on the allies who will support him.
Monsters Called âHumansâ
First of all, what threats are the people of this world under? I would like to talk about the biggest cause for this, the monsters known as âhumans.â In the setting for Metaphor, the atmosphere is filled with particles of anxiety created by peopleâs feelings of anxiety. This is the source of the magic of this world, which impacts the world in various ways. The particles called âmaglaâ are sucked up and collected by a special device in the city. It is widely known in this world, for example, as a source of funding for this kingdom. In recent years, the amount of magma has increased and monsters have arisen in response. The most prominent example of this is the monster known as âhuman.â The design of the human was inspired by the many fantastic paintings left behind by the medieval artist Hieronymus Bosch. The mysterious creatures in Boschâs paintings are sometimes described as the worldâs first depiction of monsters or fantasy creatures. Metaphor has invited guest artists such as Koda Kazuma for background concept art, Ikuto Yamashita for the Gauntlet Runner designs, and Yuji Himukai for some Archetype designs. For this title, Hieronymus Bosch can be seen as the fourth great guest artist to join, lending us his hand. The protagonists will meet people suffering from these monstrous threats, and their journey will be filled with turbulence. N
World Affairs
Now letâs talk about what sort of situation this world is in. The story takes place in the âUnited Kingdom of Euchronia,â a country that was originally divided into three separate countries that were then annexed into one. However, the power of the royal family has already waned and a cadre of officials from the state religion known as âSanctismâ now effectively rule the country. At the top of the list is Sanctifex Forden. The aging king had no heir, and many of the people were beginning to look to the moderate Forden as their next leader to avoid political instability. On the other hand, there are a few who do not agree with Forden and the Sanctist vision. The person leading the charge on that end is a man named Louis, who at a young age became a powerful military elite. Louis is a man who declares that the kingdom has become infested with humans because of the anxiety brought about by the king and Sanctism, and he seeks to protect the weak who follow him from the monsters by force of arms. He is also a charismatic figure with a growing number of enthusiastic sympathizers in various locations. The story of Metaphor opens with a shocking scene in which Louis assassinates the king with his own hands. In fact, Louis is a great traitor who not only killed the king, but also plotted the assassination of the prince who was heir to the throne. Now that the king has been killed, if Louis wins the battle with Forden, a man who killed two generations of the royal family could potentially become the next kingâa situation that the supporters of the royal family would risk their lives to prevent. So far we have revealed that the protagonist is traveling with the fairy Gallica to save the cursed prince. But in fact, his mission is to defeat Louis, the one who casted the curse. From the beginning of the story, the protagonist and Gallica have been on a mission to assassinate the treasonist, Louis.
â Purpose of the Journey
Assassinating Louis is a tremendous journey for the protagonist unnamed boy and his partner Gallica. The symbol of Louisâs power is the Charadrius, the worldâs only flying gauntlet runner, which also serves as his headquarters. However, the protagonist encounters a human before he even meets Louis, and in the process, he awakens an Archetypeâa power of heroism that lies deep within himâand he survives, albeit painfully. The protagonists make their attempt on Louisâs life at the royal funeral. However, the face of the king, who should already be dead, appears in the sky, and a proclamation is made that the next in line to the throne will be the one who is most desired by the people. This is the result of a formidable magic power inherited only by the king, from generation to generation, which he had arranged to be triggered upon his death. Thus, an unprecedented upheaval ensues, with the entire population of Euchronia competing to gather support by a set deadline.
Election Magic
This is the background of the invocation of the election magic, which is the first turning point in the story. Immediately after this magic is invoked, the kingâs face in the sky above shows the current popularity rankings and the faces of Forden and Louis appear, big and bold. In other words, at the start of the story, we are at the beginning of a conflict between two huge forces: Santifex Forden, who is in effect, the ruler of the country, and Louis, a charismatic rebel in the military. In the process, the protagonist decides to jump into the turbulent journey for the throne in order to save the prince, his best friend since childhood, and to take Louisâs life for that purpose.
â Travel Companions
Now let us introduce you to the allies who will join the protagonist.
Gallica
Gallica, the fairy who has been with you since the beginning of your journey, is your partner who guides you along the way and provides you with direction. Fairies are rare in this world, and although they cannot participate directly in battle, they are especially important because they are companions who can help confirm plans and provide local information, guiding the protagonist in both nagging and kind ways, so that he does not get lost. However, she sometimes gets complaints from other team members saying that they canât sleep from the sound of her wings when she flies around while they sleep.
More
Here is the keeper of Akademeia, the facility for Archetype customization, who I mentioned in another video. His name is More. More is the author of one of the key items in the game, the fantasy novel that the protagonist carries. He is imprisoned in this mysterious space. He is well-versed in a variety of knowledge and offers various advice to the protagonists as they research their Archetypes. He is also a supporter and one of the followers we introduced in another video, meaning you can nurture your bond with him. As a person who has been exploring this world since his youth, he as a follower, governs the âSeekerâ Archetype lineage. The Seeker, which the protagonist first awakens, belongs to this overarching Seeker lineage.
Grius
The story begins with the protagonist being assigned the mission of sending a message to an ally. Due to strict confidentiality, only Gallica was informed of the details of the message, namely the mission to assassinate Louis, who cast the curse, in order to break the princeâs curse. Grius is the ally who you need to deliver the message to. He is not only a master of martial arts, but also skilled in magic, and once even attempted to master Archetypes. Louis is not an easy target to approach. However, with the assumption that he will surely appear at the kingâs funeral, the protagonist along with Grius, join hands on this mission.
Strohl
In order to deliver a message to Grius, who is undercover as a soldier in the Royal Army, the protagonist first volunteers to be a soldier at the recruitment center in the Royal Capital. There he meets Strohl, a young man of noble birth. It is a rare sight to see a noble volunteering for military service, but he seems to have a deep grudge towards humans from prior experience. Perhaps because of this, he has the courage to stand and fight as a noble in front of other citizens, and he has a strong sense of justice, treating everyone equally. Party members can freely swap between the Archetypes that the protagonist acquires during his journey, but the first Archetype that awakens in Strohl is the warrior. His beliefs are embodied in his heroic image and give him new strength.
Hulkenberg
The name of this red-haired warrior is Hulkenberg you drew. She is a member of the Holy Order and once served as the princeâs guard. However, during Louisâ attack on the prince, she was unable to fulfill her duty to protect him, and stepped away from the Royal Capital for a long time. She continued her journey, searching for the whereabouts of the prince without a clue as to his safety. In the midst of this disappointment, she learns of the kingâs death and returns to the Royal Capital, where she meets the protagonists. She would then throw herself into the fray once again. The first Archetype to awaken in her is the âKnight.â With her pride as a knight and unwavering determination, she is a reliable presence in the party. She can be a bit stubborn and stoic at times, but on the other hand she has her goofy side, such as relishing and eating unconventional food. As a side note, when we first announced this work we had a red-haired elf-like woman as our concept character, and through the development process of the game, we were able to complete her as this character Hulkenberg. Thank you to those who have been waiting patiently to see how she would turn out.
Heismay
This is Heismay. With his distinctive appearance, he is a unique character who also joins the party. He has a different and painful past compared to Strohl and Hulkenberg, and in order to overcome it, he decides to face his own anxiety and awakens his Archetype. The first Archetype to awaken in him is the âThief.â Despite his seemingly comical appearance, Heismay is a skilled and agile fighter. Heismay will expand the range of the partyâs tactics to a new level.
â New Companions
Now the traveling companions will be further increased as the story progresses. Let us continue and introduce you to some of the new fellow characters.
Neuras
Of course, the party needs legs thatâll take them around the wilderness to fight in the campaign. Those legs are the gauntlet runner, and Neuras is its pilot. He was originally a gauntlet runner designer for the royal family. Heâs a man of unique traits, whose only interest seems to be the knowledge of gauntlet runners, but he is also a lively figure who brings a cheerful mood to the trip, not being easily discouraged by the serious problems that could trouble the others. Although he does not take part in dungeon combat, he is one of the key supporters of the protagonist and others on their journey, awakening the âGunnerâ Archetype in the protagonist. Also, bonding with him may cause a change in the gauntlet runner itself. Please look forward to that as well.
Junah
Letâs continue the introduction further. This is a scene from a major national event. The name of the beautiful woman standing on stage is Junah. She is a songstress, known to have the most beautiful voice in the kingdom. She is even more famous than the royal family, despite the lack of modern media in the world. Junah, in fact, has an unexpectedly important background, and she too awakens an Archetypeâthe âMasked Dancerââand later joins the protagonists in their journey. The character art is by Shigenori Soejima, a well-known artist in the Persona series. Junahâs costume is prominent, but in order to achieve the vivid and fashionable art that we are known for, while still fitting in with the fantasy world, we created characters unique to this title, referencing the âSwinging Londonâ fashion movement of London in the 60s. We are pursuing a particular artistic style, which we hope you will enjoy in your gameplay.
â Tribes in the World
We have introduced the companions that will join you on your journey, and one thing to point out is that theyâre all from different tribes. In the previous information drop, we have told you that there are eight tribes in this world. The Clemar, averse to irrationality. The Roussainte, who pride themselves on strength. The Rhoag, who are long-lived and see the value in passing something on. The Ishkia, said to be highly intelligent. The Nidia, who are particularly sociable. The Paripus, who love a lively banquet. The Eugief, who value harmony. The enigmatic Mustari, who do not speak much. In addition to those eight, there are the Elda, the protagonistâs tribe, whose existence itself is rare. These tribes are set based on a concept unique to this game. The motifs we used were the traits and characteristics that people have. To draw a line with standard fantasy world settings, the tribes in this game were created from scratch, being inspired by the biases of peopleâs personalities and values. This is one of our efforts to rebuild the fantasy RPG from the ground up, and we hope that you will enjoy the freshness of this new experience.
â Election Race
The title also features gimmicks to make the game more exciting, such as the âelection magic,â and the great race across the kingdom, which is held as part of the popularity contest. In a kingdom ruled by a monarch, it is truly an event that turns things upside down. In the confusion of not knowing what is right and wrong, what ideas will people come up with, and what will people seek in a king. Although the word âelectionâ may sound formal to some, we incorporated it because we thought it would be a device that would provide unpredictable developments when depicting a fantasy story. Please look forward to the details on this.
â Closing
Well, how was it? In a world where anxiety which we all inherently carry is becoming a real force to be reckoned with, and in order to confront it, we must awaken the heroic powers, or Archetypes, that we are also born with, and overcome our fear of an unknown future. We created this RPG with such a goal in mind. Unlike the contemporary story we have made in the past, there are various settings that are unique to Metaphor. But we have created a game that can be enjoyed by all users. For example, we have a âMemorandumâ function that can be activated with a single button during play, to give the freedom to enjoy the details of this world setting. We hope that many people will play the game once it is released, so please stay tuned. Once again, Metaphor is scheduled to launch on October 11, 2024. Pre-orders for both the physical and digital versions are now available. We hope you will pre-order or wishlist today. Those who pre-order will receive the âArchetype EXP Chest Setâ and the âAdventurerâs Journey Packâ as pre-order incentives. Both items are useful for in-game consumables for battles and party development, so donât miss out. Metaphor is also available in special deluxe editions for both physical and digital versions. We have a limited number for the Collectorâs Edition, so if you would like to secure one, please do so as soon as possible.
â Up Next
In the next exclusive showcase, we will finally reveal what kind of competitors will emerge in the actual campaign, and what kind of supporters will lend us a hand in overcoming those rivals, so please stay tuned. In addition, many videos will be released daily by More, the keeper of Akademeia, who will introduce the various world settings of the title to you. We hope you will enjoy this one as well. See you again in the next exclusive showcase. Thank you very much for your time today.

Aspiring tyrants are now brazen in their crusade against free speech. John Kerry, Tim Walz, Hillary Clinton, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Kentanji Brown Jackson, Letitia James, and their allies in academia and the media have been unequivocal in their calls to usurp the protections of the First Amendment.Â
These threats are not hypothetical. The West has weaponized the judicial system to punish Steve Bannon, Julian Assange, Mark Steyn, Douglass Mackey, VDARE, Roger Ver, Pavel Durov, and others for their disobedience to the Washington establishment.Â
But beyond these political persecutions, a more insidious â and far less reported â assault on free expression is taking place.
Christianity is under attack in the West, yet the statement sounds hyperbolic because our news media shuns the subject.
In England this week, a British Army veteran named Adam Smith-Connor was convicted for praying silently on a public street. Police approached Smith-Connor and told him they were there to âinquire as to [his] activities.â âWell, Iâm praying,â he explained in an exchange captured on video.Â
The officer followed up, âWhat is the nature of your prayer today?â âIâm praying for my son,â he responded.
Smith-Connor was praying silently near an abortion facility, which the British police ruled violated censorship laws in the United Kingdom. He prayed with his back to the facility âto avoid any impression of approaching or engaging any women entering or leaving the facility,â his lawyers wrote. Â
His legal fund explained, âAccording to the rules of the censorship zone in which he was praying, if Adam were thinking about any other issue â the economy, immigration, or healthcare, for example â he wouldnât have been fined. It was the nature of his thoughts, his silent prayer, that got him in legal trouble.â

In the wake of students in the west being arrested and forcibly cleared from their campuses for standing up for Palestine.
I wrote a speech to show solidarity for all of those people who have taken it upon themselves to organize a peaceful encampment movement
But Iâm also calling for them to make use of armed resistance against those who sacrifice their conscience and lives to uphold systems of oppression steered by the elites and state representatives who support and benefit from our oppression through white supremacist patriarchal and capitalist systems.
Even though the ones that uphold them donât always stand a chance to actually benefit from keeping the wheels of oppression churning. You have to understand and remember that the elites and state representatives are defenseless thatâs why they need the police force to enforce the status quo and commandeer the military industrial complex against us. For we are viewed as the lowly class of peasantry worthy ranks that snap into obedience. Yet we are the danger that they need to be protected from but it is rather us that need to be protected from the danger that they pose to our rights, freedom, human civilization, the various species in the animal kingdom and most importantly Mother Earth.
So it is our job to remove the safeguards around their blood stained mansions in order to render their power obsolete. So we do not aim at them for that is a waste of our time but rather aim at those who they trust to defend their interest.
I will share this very speech that Iâll perform in my video and I'll upload it on every social media platform and I hope that it will pick up some steam so help me get it to go #viral so that people will see it and perform it in distinct and creative ways while keeping the very essence of the overall message.
Cuz it never stands to be diluted or dialed back to be more consumer friendly, I want to hear the rage in your voices, wrinkles on your faces and the pain in your bodies because you feel for the students who are being held to the ground and deprived of a considerable amount of oxygen during their arrest. CHANNEL THEIR PAIN & THOSE OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE EVERYWHERE ESPECIALLY THOSE IN THE GAZA STRIP, RAFAH AND THE WEST BANK!
Cuz WE are being Wronged or Fucked too in every sense of the word whether weâre aware of it or not as our tax dollars go into funding a genocide instead of helping the American & Canadian people thrive and weâre even letting our conscience die by listening to cowardly voices from western media establishments.
AS A PEOPLE WITHOUT A CONSCIENCE WILL STAND FOR OPPRESSION AND FALL TO UPHOLD OPPRESSION WHETHER IT BE THEIR OWN OR THAT OF OTHERS CUZ AS WE WATCH THEM COME FOR OTHERS WE FORGET THAT THEYâLL COME FOR US NEXT TOO! SO WE MIGHT AS WELL RISE TO THE CHALLENGE THAT IS REPRESENTED BEFORE US BY OUR OPPRESSORS AND TAKE OUR TIME TO PROPERLY RESIST/ FIGHT NOT ONLY FOR OUR RIGHTS BUT ALSO FOR THOSE WHO SUFFER AT THE HANDS OF THE US EMPIRE ACROSS THE WORLD! THE LEOPARD WILL NEVER STOP UNTIL IT EATS EVERY SINGLE ONE OF OUR FACES SO WE MIGHT AS WELL FIGHT TO KEEP EVERYONEâS FACES PROTECTED RATHER THAN TRYING TO PROTECT OUR OWN FACES CUZ AGAIN WHEN THEYâRE DONE WITH THE OTHERS, THEY WILL COME FOR US NEXT TOO!
So Hereâs the actual speech:
Youâre going to stand right here and say that you have a warrant from Turtle Island turned into the Most United States demanding for our arrest!?
Are you asking us to obey?
And pray at their behest?
Itâs okay. Cuz we will not erupt in protest!
For we do not beg!
It is our rite of passage
To complete the most noble quest
So what is ours shall be taken!
And we shall not be shaken by your stern stare
We will only prevail in times of despair
Say it for the ones at the back who are too blind to oppression! Free free free Palestine! Free Congo and Free Sudan!
Say it for the ones at the front who are too scared to fall! Free free free Palestine! Free Congo and Free Sudan!
Cuz everything and those everywhere long for liberation all at once!
This is the golden ages ripe with the opportunity for progress
So we have to rise to pass the litmus test
For we grow complict in our own undoing through the violence in our silence
As others not deserving of hell fell into the heavens
While we hid in our nest
Only in the moments that we'll seek to rest our heads on our cozy beds
We shall be so harshly and rudely awakened
By the reality that we will forever be oppressed
Unless we keep the faith in our every breath
For we cannot stand to lose in the slightest
As we cannot tell those who will come next that we tried our best
Cuz they deserve the heavens and the earth
Free from those who wish to make it their conquest
And take them as their new subjects
Again we shall not be shaken!
We shall come for each and every one of your colonial nations!
And reduce them into our shrines of liberation!
So beware and behave or you shall be tamed by the wrath of our rage.
And we shall make a feast out of your faces if you even dare.

Leaked template for future statements from Markle & Harry to promote compassion (satire) by u/ElectricalAd9212
Leaked template for future statements from Markle & Harry to promote compassion (satire) House of Archewell Montecito Royal House Message from:Her Royal Holiness Meghan, Duchess of SussexPrince Harry, husband of Her Royal Holiness Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, son-in-law of Doria Ragland, aka Her Revered Respectfulness The Duchess MotherâOn behalf of America and the whole world, apart from the United Kingdom, who already issued a statement from some people, we would like to express our deep sadness about bad thing that happened. You have suffered. And so have we. And so we are joined together in suffering. Just as service is universal, so is suffering. The pain you feel is our pain. But only love can overcome hate, and pain. And love is love. We understand your suffering. We have suffered so much too. We know the feeling of being chased through the streets of New York by men who wanted to chase us because we are royal and special. We know how it feels to be denied whatever we want by a regime that refuses us ownership of jewellery, tiaras, diamonds, rubies, emeralds and palaces, just because they are racist against sassy modernisers. We know what it is like for the families of children killed at Uvalde to refuse to allow us to hug them in front of cameras because of hate speech against us, when all we wanted to was heal the world with our hugs, smiles, love, and expensive clothing. My husband and I have fond memories of seeing videos of your country on YouTube, and our hearts bleed for your bleeding. My mother-in-law and spiritual Mother, Diana, the Real Princess of Wales, has been in touch with me. I communed with her last night and she wanted me to tell you that she hugs you too.As her reincarnation I feel your pain, and I will send her your hugs and love, and your support for me over perpetators of intolerance of me in the media and the world.Always remember, love is love. And love exists because love loves love. Love does not love hate. The only thing that love is in love with, is love itself. My husband and I, and our servants, shall never stop hugging your pain to smother it forever in love. My husband was called the 'spare', but what that actually means, is he has lots of love to spare for you.And as his wife and mother, I will spare you nothing but love and healing. Please remember us in your prayers.Love and healing is my blessing to the Universe, and my gift to your pain.Feel free to express thanks to your media for this gift.Because love and healing from us multiplies when you tell people about it.I hug you all as you sleep, in your dreams.Your devoted Empress of Love,Her Royal Holiness, Meghan, Duchess of Sussexââ post link: https://ift.tt/RpIcV5M author: ElectricalAd9212 submitted: October 12, 2023 at 03:59PM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit

(JTA) â Advocates for Jewish women who say their estranged husbands are abusing them by refusing to assent to a religious divorce are cheering after a New Jersey appellate court overturned a ruling against a woman in that state who used social media to advocate for her divorce.
A lower court ruled in 2021 that the womanâs social media posts constituted harassment and incitement. The American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey got involved in the case then, joining several Orthodox womenâs rights groups who had already been working on her behalf.
The woman, who was identified only by her initials, LBB, in Wednesdayâs 39-page court ruling, has been separated from her husband since 2019. She says that he has refused to give her a get, or ritual divorce document.
According to Jewish law, if a husband does not give his wife a get, she becomes an âagunah,â Hebrew for âchained woman,â who is unable to divorce and therefore to remarry â even if the couple has already completed a civil divorce. Men who refuse to deliver a get, often to gain leverage in a civil divorce proceeding, face no such restrictions under Jewish law.
A number of organizations in the United States, Israel and beyond have mobilized to press Jewish legal authorities to find a solution to the issue, which Orthodox womenâs rights advocates consider a form of domestic abuse. Three Jewish groups filed legal briefs in support of the woman, including the Organization for the Resolution of Agunot, Unchained at Last and the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance.
âWe applaud the courtâs upholding of the right of agunot, those denied a Jewish divorce, to advocate for themselves within their communities without fear of repercussion.â Keshet Starr, CEO of the ORA, said in a statement. âGet refusal is unquestionably a form of domestic abuse; today, the court has stood up for survivors and against abuse in all its forms.â
In recent years, agunot and their advocates have turned to social media to recruit support for their cause and pressure their husbands to deliver a get. That appears to be what happened in this case. According to the court ruling, in 2021 the woman in question created a video in which she asked viewers to âpressâ her husband to give her a get. She says she sent it to only two people, but it appears to have spread more widely, and to have led to other social media activism that identified him by name, along with a photo.
The man testified that he subsequently received a series of anonymous phone calls, some containing threats. According to the ruling, he âexplained his belief that the Jewish community reacts violently to the withholding of a get and that identifying him as a âget refuserâ subjected him to kidnappings and brutal beatings.âÂ
He also said his father was a get refuser and was subject to beating as a result. And he testified about a history of verbal abuse throughout their marriage.
The man also claimed that he did not withhold the get and that he had in fact given it to someone identified in the ruling as the âChief Rabbi of Elizabeth,â who could have given it to the manâs wife. It is unclear which rabbi the ruling referred to: There is no broadly recognized âchief rabbi of Elizabeth,â a New Jersey city, and unlike other countries such as Israel or the United Kingdom, the United States or its cities do not have a chief rabbi.Â
In 2021, the man received a temporary, and later a final, restraining order that barred his estranged wife from contacting him and ordered her to remove social media posts calling for the get. The court that issued the restraining order ruled that the social media posts constituted harassment, an invasion of privacy and incitement, and were thus not protected under the First Amendmentâs free speech provisions.Â
The appellate courtâs three-judge panel rejected that reasoning, saying that her social media activism did count as protected speech.Â
âIn sum, the judgeâs finding that the Jewish community was prone to violence against get refusers â and the implicit holding that defendant was aware of and intentionally availed herself of such violent tendencies â is not supported by the record,â the decision says. âThe video was intended to get a get. The video did not threaten or menace plaintiff, and nothing in the record suggests that plaintiffâs safety or security was put at risk by the video.â

The United Kingdom wing of U.N. Women faced backlash after announcing that a pro-Palestinian transgender model would be its "champion" of women.Â
Munroe Bergdorf was selected as the first U.N. Women U.K. Champion in November. However, 17 women's groups took notice and penned an open letter Jan. 2 expressing concern about the appointment.Â
"The female population of the UK is more than 33 million, yet you have ignored every one of us and chosen a male," the letter, addressed to U.N. Women executive director Sima Bahous, the U.N. Women executive committee and the U.N. Women U.K. Committee, said.Â
LEFT-WING ACTIVIST 'SHOCKED' IN VIRAL VIDEO AFTER FAILING TO RECRUIT PRO-PALESTINIAN MUSLIM SUPPORT FOR LGBTQ
The letter was signed by groups such as Fair Play For Women, LGB Alliance, Sex Matters and Womenâs Declaration International â U.K.Â
"Munroe Bergdorfâs well-publicized activism is not pro-women," the letter continued.Â
Other critics, such as Douglas Murray, blasted the main U.N. Women group for yet another example of bad decision-making by the international body.Â
"Seems to be this group has a problem with... reality," Murray said on Talk TV. Murray also raised concern about how U.N. Women dragged its feet for nearly two months before explicitly condemning Hamas' brutal rape of women.Â
ISRAELI POLICE SAY EXTREME SEXUAL VIOLENCE, RAPE BY HAMAS TERRORISTS WAS SYSTEMATIC
Bergdorf, a pro-Palestinian activist who has posted messages such as "Gays 4 Gaza," "Dykes for a free Palestine," and "Queers for Palestine," has called for a "ceasefire," an end to Israel's national security response to Hamas' terrorist attack and invasion on Oct. 7.
The qualifications for becoming a "champion" for U.N. Women U.K. included, "someone who has made incredible contributions to gender equality and the rights of women, girls."
"Working with the U.N. has been a personal ambition and dream of mine. Itâs a responsibility that I donât take lightly," Bergdorf said in the interview with Attitude. "I will use this role to further advocate for the progress, safety, inclusion and empowerment of ALL women and girls, of all communities and identities."
"I will continue to draw attention to the systemic and social impact of misogyny, transphobia and gender-based inequality within the UK â In order to help provide data and insight that contributes to forming tangible methods of tracking and countering it," Bergdorf added.Â
U.N. Women U.K. didn't immediately respond for comment.Â

Chapter 3: Iris Elegy
Narrated by Perlin.
Narrator: "Following Yunikina's rebellion, the Snow Eagle Revolutionary Force officially assembled under the Sword of Legend..."
Choose "Morning."
You: Good morning. How far along are you?
Narrator: From how the rebels started in Cangyu City to how they finally ended the tyranny in White Rock City.
You: I've heard that part before.
Narrator: Ah, I expected as much. Do you know what happened after the end of the war?
You: I'm all ears.
Narrator: After the final battle was over, Yunikina went off alone to mourn the dead soldiers.
Narrator: When she returned, someone noticed that she no longer had the Sword of Legend at her side. No one knows where she left it.
Narrator: Thanks to the effort of White Rock City's citizens, a free and fair government slowly rose. Yunikina, however, didn't stay with them. Based on the accounts at the time, it was her decision.
Narrator: "An excellent commander does not necessarily make a great queen. North Kingdom remains at war. There are still many things I must tend to."
Narrator: That was the message she left, before leading the Snow Eagle Revolutionary Force to the city's borders to stand watch over White Rock City.
Narrator: After all, her desires never had anything to do with power. She understood very well what she wanted to protect.
You: The video on your computer is done buffering.
Narrator; Oh, it's a documentary on Yunikina. It will get to her... Actually, the video didn't get stuck. I just needed a moment to collect myself.
Narrator: Phew. Okay, I'm good now.
Video: Yunikina passed away much too soon at the age of 32. She succumbed to an illness in the morning. She was calm and content, as if the tundra had called her home.
Choose either "32 years old..." or "How could that be?"
If "years," ...
You: At 32 years old? That's young...
Narrator: Stop, or you're going to make me cry for real.
If "how," ...
You: I thought she would always be watching over White Rock City...
Narrator: That's how I felt when I was little. I mean, wasn't Yunikina supposed to be the city's eternal guardian?
--
Narrator: She has a place in many people's hearts. A lot of them couldn't accept her death, so there are conspiracy theories, even to this day.
Narrator: Some said the lapdogs of the former ruler of White Rock City took revenge on her, some claimed it was because the new regime feared her leadership and influence...
Narrator: With pressure from the people, the army and the government both launched official investigations, even uncovering many brutal truths behind the story.
Narrator: Most people in White Rock City were born under tyranny and became accustomed to it, so they criticized the Snow Eagle Revolutionary Force's rebellion.
Narrator: Even within the Snow Eagle Revolutionary Force, there were different agendas behind the united goal of overthrowing the White Rock regime.
Narrator: The schisms resurfaced when their common goal was achieved, freedom letting these desires take root.
Narrator: However, all of that had nothing to do with Yunikina's death.
Narrator: No matter how many prayers were offered or how many suspects were investigated, nothing could ignore the fact that the general was dead.
Narrator: More and more people finally accepted that Yunikina was never coming back.
Narrator: Let's continue watching.
Video: The warrior goddess was buried on the tundra, in her armor of ice. Countless citizens joined the procession on their own, showering her casket with fleurs-de-lis.
Video: The poets sang elegies, and the people of the North lent them their voices, their tears freezing in the winter wind.
~~
"Sleep soundly, beautiful girl. We have brought you flowers. May your long slumber be as warm as the spring."
"Sleep soundly, leader of the Snow Eagles. We shall continue to protect our home, and we will pass down a hero's will for generations to come."
"Sleep soundly, daughter of the North. To the blizzard, we raise our voices in prayer. May freedom forever fly with your noble soul."
~~
You: Perhaps her spirit really did return to her home.
Narrator: Thank you for saying that.
Narrator: Anyway, every hero's story comes to an end. History waits for no one.
