Halo: Reach (2010) – Exploring the Past
TL;DR – It might be the first Halo game to connect with me on a narrative level, as well as the general gameplay. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4 out of 5. Disclosure – I paid for the Game Pass service that accessed this game. Back late last year the Halo TV series hit its stride for a moment during the conflagration on the Planet Reach. Alas, the strength in the show was fleeting, but it had me wondering if…

Cappelle Calling - 20 mei 2024
Uur 1:
Garbage - Only Happy When It Rains Billie Eilish - LUNCH Ultravox - Passing Strangers Boudewijn de Groot - Terug Van Weggeweest (LP van de Week) Bruce Cockburn - Lovers In A Dangerous Time BAP - Kristallnaach Joe Cocker - With A Little Help From My Friends (DisCovered) Claw Boys Claw - Rosie Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes - Up Where We Belong (Filmplaat - uit 'An Officer and a Gentleman') Artists United Against Apartheid- Sun City Boudewijn de Groot - Wat Geweest Is, Is Geweest (LP van de Week)
Uur 2:
Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballé - Barcelona Billy Joel - Prelude / Angry Young Man Boudewijn de Groot - Het Spaarne (LP van de Week) Ce Soir - You Took Me By Surprise The Beatles - With A Little Help From My Friends (DisCovered) Latin Quarter - New Millionaires Boudewijn de Groot - Jimmy (LP van de Week) Midnight Oil - Gunbarrel Highway ABBA - Waterloo Telex - Euro-vision Boudewijn de Groot - De Reiziger (LP van de Week) Son Mieux - Dancing At The Doors Of Heaven Psychedelic Furs - Goodbye (Dance Mix)
Shownotes:

For example, a classmate of yours didn't know that Freddy Mercury was the lead singer of Queen. Are they hurting anyone by not knowing that before you told them? What sort of upbringing or background could they have which could have prevented them from knowing this, such as having a different cultural background than you, or having a strict and sheltered upbringing?
I didn't know that until now. I have heard and sung Bohemian Rhapsody, I knew that Queen was a band, and that Freddy Mercury was a famous person.
How can this be? Well my parents were a single digit age when Bohemian Rhapsody came out, and I very much wasn't into music as a kid and teen and am not very into it now. I also live across the sea from Queen, and generally don't really focus on persons in my memory of history, or of my life. I couldn't tell you the name of most of my college professors, and would have to look up the names of the courses too. Similarly I know Faun is an artist and so is ... I had an example in mind but I can't get the name, which is actually perfect.
On the other hand, I can tell you which yeah the rail line between Den Bosch and Lage Zwaluwe was closed to passenger rail, or why there are concrete gantry's holding up the catenary on the line from Breda to Venlo.
Which I swear is very normal information to know
Mind your reaction/response when someone tells you they don't know something or don't know how to do something. Don't make someone else feel stupid or feel bad about themselves just because they don't know something or know how to do something that you do.
It's understandable if you're positive that something is common knowledge that "everyone" knows by a certain age to show some shock or surprise when someone tells you they didn't know it, but be mindful of how strong or negative your reaction comes across. Definitely avoid mocking them or laughing at them.
Although willful ignorance certainly exists, often if someone doesn't know something it's not their fault that this information never came their way. How can someone know what they don't know if they don't know?
For example, a classmate of yours didn't know that Freddy Mercury was the lead singer of Queen. Are they hurting anyone by not knowing that before you told them? What sort of upbringing or background could they have which could have prevented them from knowing this, such as having a different cultural background than you, or having a strict and sheltered upbringing? Either of these scenarios aren't really something someone has control over, and it doesn't mean they're unintelligent or a bad person.
Or, if you're more of an expert on something than whoever you're talking to, that's no excuse to be rude or make them feel dumb. For example if you're an engineer hanging out with a group of friends who don't know anything about engineering, there's no reason to make your friends feel dumb or bad about themselves because they don't know as much about engineering as you.
There's a million and one reasons why they might not have had the same opportunities as you to pursue an education in engineering, and for all you know they could have been a better engineer than you if they had the same background and were given the same opportunities as you.
Of course, as with anything there is nuance in this matter and it's not always black and white. For example, a tourist visiting Japan should know what the currency is in Japan and which side of the road they drive on before arriving there, and it's understandable to be frustrated if they never bothered to look that up before traveling there.
But generally if someone isn't hurting anyone by not knowing what they don't know, don't be rude about it or make them feel dumb or bad about it.

SAD NEWS: Actor Annie Wersching, best known for playing FBI agent Renee Walker in the series “24″ and providing the voice for Tess in the video game “The Last of Us,” has died. She was 45. Wersching passed away Sunday morning in Los Angeles following a battle with cancer, her publicist told The Associated Press. The type of cancer was not specified. Wersching continued to shoot even after her 2020 diagnosis, with prominent roles in Star Trek: Picard as the Borg queen in Season 2, and The Rookie. She also voiced Tess in the popular The Last Of Us video game, which was adapted into a TV series by HBO. Wersching’s husband, actor Stephen Full, issued a statement. “There is a cavernous hole in the soul of this family today. But she left us the tools to fill it. She found wonder in the simplest moment. She didn’t require music to dance. She taught us not to wait for adventure to find you. ‘Go find it. It’s everywhere.’ And find it we shall. “As I drove our boys, the true loves of her life, down the winding driveway and street, she would yell BYE! until we were out of earshot and into the world. I can still hear it ringing. Bye my Buddie. ‘I love you little family…’ “ Born and raised in St. Louis on Mar. 28, 1977, Wersching started her acting career in 2002 with a guest appearance on Star Trek: Enterprise, and continued racking up credits on Frasier, Angel, Charmed, Boston Legal, and Supernatural. In 2007, she scored her first recurring role, as Amelia Joffe on General Hospital. In 2009, she was cast as FBI special agent Renee Walker on the seventh season of 24; Julia Brasher on Bosch in 2014; Timeless as Emma Whitmore in 2016, and Runaways as Leslie Dean. Even with her diagnosis, Wersching continued to work on Picard and her last appearance was on the fifth season of The Rookie as Rosalind Dyer in October 2022. In addition to her husband, Wersching is survived by their three sons, Freddie, Ozzie, and Archie. Up Your Geek extends its condolences to Wersching’s family, friends, colleagues and fans. #PeaceInParadise #RIP #AnnieWersching #RIPAnnieWersching #Actress #24 #Picard #StarTrek #QueenBorg #Runaways #TheLastOfUs #Timeless #Bosch https://www.instagram.com/p/CoBkr1pMmuW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

my very long winded thoughts on episode two of chucky season 2
summary: better than the first episode but still leaves me cold when comparing it to season 1. funnier moments interesting developments and new characters dont fully compensate for the weird pacing and things being mostly setup.
the biggest issue for me so far is definitely that the first season was such a solid 8, and this one is kind of like a weak 6
i thought we would have more of the new characters, at least to establish them better and have a feel of their personalities. but sister ruth (freddie lounds!!!!!!!) made me miss ms fairchild big time, and the detective looking for nica and his interactions with tiffany made me somehow miss gladys from season 1 (the funny "high as a kite" lady, the woman who chucky gave the razor apple to on halloween night and who later was the realtor who sold tiffany the old ray house). i think even the tied-up guy back at the hotel had more of an attitude than these new faces. i dunno if thats a casting thing or a writing thing tbh. the previous episode had ended with an interesting note regarding that boy trevor, but he was absolutely nothing in his only scene here. lexy keeps saying hes evil hes awful but we dont get anything specific (”life a living hell” this and that, i need details), so it feels even more like just talking and no real outcome
nadine is a sweetheart though. i really like her and how she is so drastically different to the other three main kids, even though putting a kid in a catholic boarding school for kleptomania (what a letdown of a backstory tbh) when theres others who were sent there for blowing up a kid with a homemade bomb feels.... a bit weird. but whatever, what do i know. i just hope she gets something to do besides hang around the main three, bc otherwise the feeling that she will only be around to be killed by chucky for some quick emotional impact is not going to go away.
i!! actually loved!!!! that one scene in class with the teacher talking about hieronymus bosch, along with that projection it gave me big hannibal in florence vibes and i loved seeing jake talking about art, even if it was just a quick thing. im really curious about the religious aspect of the season, beyond the aesthetics, which so far seem to be the only way it really impacts the story. i think it was a missed opportunity to not make any of the three kids catholic/religious, especially either jake or devon (not even super religious, just a mention of being baptized or having been raised in a christian household), since that would intersect very well with issues of guilt which feels like its going to be a running theme for jake in particular. having him feel guilty for everything that happened so far (which makes perfect sense and his two little breakdowns were very well done i think) and not really have anything to do with the religious environment feels like such a waste.... especially with how interesting it could be to acknowledge fully how devon sawa is once again portraying a sort of paternal authority figure, continuing with his authority role as logan and lucas. maybe its just too subtle for my thick skull, maybe its something they will build towards as the season goes on, who knows
i really really really hope devon gets more to do in the rest of the season. jake has his guilt, lexy has her drug addiction, and devon... he feels so lightweight compared to the other two. i love him so much, hes a sweetheart (and i think he would accomplish what i think?? nadines role is meant to fulfill) but having him just be the emotional rock for jake in this season is not enough, nor is it to keep the previous seasons tug of war with jake regarding their relationship and whether theyre good for one another. i was all episode hoping hed come up with some interesting info on the school and with charles lee rays childhood in it or something..... devon is a smart one, he made the important research and came up with the trap in season 1, and i wish the series remembered that, like it remembered that jake is an artist at heart
really dumb thought but im kinda glad that in the scene with nica and chucky talking inside her head we didnt get like a gollum/smeagol, david-hasselhoff-as-jekyll-and-hyde-the-musical thing (not that fiona dourif wouldnt be able to pull it off); i liked that it showed them as two separate entities even in her own body. probably not the intention but i always like to see nica in some way in control of herself and it makes absolute sense that in that discussion with him she would conceptualize him as a being apart from her. i do think we will eventually get a pretty hammy “shifting” scene and it will be probably a little bit cringe even if its fiona’s wonderful acting
i liked seeing nica trying to manipulate tiffany to leave her alone with her chiding her for wasting money, it was believable but also just clumsy enough of an effort to show shes really getting desperate and that tiffany is still smart enough to realize when shes trying to get her to do something. tiffany as a whole has been feeling just a little too.... dumb? in some way? especially with how little care she put into even properly lying to that detective. like i know its meant to be funny.... but i dont want the comedy to come from tiffany being clueless or dumb. shes ditzy and a bit naive but never dumb
and also i really didnt like the opening credits with the portraits. what the heck was that. i know its a detail and im petty but that was so lazy why didnt we get like crucifixes or sth else, even if it didn’t fit super well it made more sense than those silly production images of the doll and of fiona floating around...........
most of all i feel like stuff IS happening in each episode (here theres the interesting thing with the doll doing recon and taking those pictures?? for some reason???? and now chucky and nica working together to break free and get revenge) but its nowhere as tightly structured and well built up to as in the first season. im thinking of how every scene added a little more to the characters and the environment and the dynamics and how it juggled a whole bunch of plotlines masterfully, while here i think we might have. three. if we count devon and jake, and lexy and nadine as separates. and theres still this feeling of waiting for something else to happen, of building up to something, instead of a constant succession of impactful events. i hoped first episode was all setup even if it wasnt super well conveyed, and this episode too felt most of all like catching up and setting up possible threads. it got better after the halfway point but it still feels like a slow climb. thinking it will eventually get better isnt much of a comfort to me when i can easily remember how much better season one was
#. 🦴#somehow what bothers me most is that if glen n glenda are going to have an interesting arc i feel like#they deserve a much stronger narrative around them. and this aint it chief at least not for me#chucky series#also! i miss the split diopter shots :(#this episode made really nice use of the beautiful school building especially with that effect of light through the windows#i feel like it might be a reference to the lighting in that warehouse where tiff first appeared in bride?#but it also made those shots sort of dark in a very striking way#apart from that there hasnt been many really memorable images in these two episodes. i felt like there were too many overhead shots#for no particular reason. and its a shame bc this show used to have some really good composition#oh also the kills were like. meh. i know last episode a kid literally exploded but cmon

BSD season 4
Dub voice headcanons/hopes
The only character I have zero clue on is Mushitarou since I have such a specific sound in my mind for him and have no clue who could do it
Nikolai: Kellen Goff (Please that man has RANGE and can do such a good unhinged voice- Sun and Moon, Funtime Freddy, glamrock freddy etc in FNAF but also voices like Overhaul and Diavolo the man could easily pull of our favourite clown and do him so much justice!)
Jouno- Robbie Daymond: I know he already voiced Ace, but Ace is such a minor role and listen to 2 seconds of this man speaking as Goro Akechi and tell me he isn't the perfect VA for him
Tecchou- Johnny Young Bosch: I don't feel the need to explain this one, it seems like a super obvious choice to me. Once again, he already voiced Shiraze but Yosano's VA is also did Miss Agatha Christie so I don't see the issue with a double up role.
Teruko- Kayli Millis: I just think her voice suits and could pull of Teruko very well. She's already played a few younger characters and I see Teruko as having the very stereotypical Himidere voice and she can 100% do it.
Fukuchi- Christopher Sabat: not only does Sabat have the range to pull him off, since Fukuchi is meant to be that sort of hero of the world, Super soldier saviour, I think the guy who voiced All might honestly would really help try to perpetuate that role for him and perhaps make the twist slightly less obvious.
Sigma- Khoi Dao: I just think his voice is pretty.
Have a video I made with a few of the VA's! Haven't gone around to compiling one with Nikolai, Tecchou or Fukuchi yet but I'll post it if I do!

He’s All That: Influencer Addison Rae Helms a Cast of Familiar Faces
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
For Gen-X viewers, He’s All That is a story we’ve seen before: Pygmalion or My Fair Lady, but updated with cultural references, settings, and technology that make the story of the lesson behind the plot—that the person you are is more important than the image you put forth—more connected to a modern audience. But digital natives who have grown up with as much with TikTok as with teen movie tropes will have a far richer experience, recognizing the cast not only as actors, but as the same influencers they’re playing.
From director Mark Waters, this update, a gender-bent response to 1999’s iconic She’s All That, features a young influencer who, due to the live broadcast of a messy breakup with her budding rock-star boyfriend, loses her sponsorship (and is outed as the poor girl she truly is). The only way to get her sponsor back and save face is to prove she’s the makeover queen, able to make over any boy at their school the way she sculpted her ex’s image.
While the cast features a number of familiar faces and voices, this is not only Addison Rae’s film, it’s her first film. As her character Padgett Sawyer, the real-world TikTok celeb leads the familiar story through all the right beats, accompanied by pop-up chat windows and emojis that represent the presence of social media in the lives of all but Cameron Kweller (played by Tanner Buchanan), the object of Padgett’s make-over efforts.
Here’s a look at the cast, including some blink-or-you’ll-miss-it cameos of other influencers among the cast members…
View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Addison Rae (@addisonraee)
Addison Rae as Padgett Sawyer
Although this is Rae’s first full-length feature, she is no stranger to the camera. She began her career as a dancer, who in 2019 launched a TikTok channel featuring her dance takes on popular songs. At only 20, the Louisiana celeb is worth over $5 million and has more than 83.4 million followers on TikTok (far more than her character in the film). Rae has her own merchandise line, but has also endorsed brands including Chantilly Boutique, Cheapskate, FashionNova, McCrary Jewelers, and Uptown. (It seems doubtful that she relies on any of them for corporate sponsorship, the way Padgett relies on sponsor Bunny Venom, given her per-video payout rate on TikTok and the reports of what she brings in monthly on YouTube.)
Character Padgett is known for her makeover how-tos (some of which give bad advice, such as using toothpaste to reduce pimples), and in fact Rae’s very first YouTube video was showing how to do hair and makeup. Another is a Q&A with her 2020 flame, Bryce Hall. But more of her videos on both YouTube and TikTok feature music, and in addition to the requisite teen movie dance numbers featured in He’s All That, Rae does an excellent karaoke in the film with co-star Buchanan.

Bryce Hall‘s Cameo
Speaking of Bryce Hall, Rae’s fellow TikTok star (21 million followers) makes a cameo in the film. Hall’s career as an influencer began when he livestreaming on YouTube at age 15 in an effort to make friends after being bullied. The social media influencer moved from Maryland to Los Angeles and joined TalentX Entertainment’s Sway House to create content for multiple platforms.
In the film, Hall has no lines, but commiserates with Padgett’s ex, Jordan Van Draanen (Peyton Meyer) about girls. In the scene, Van Draanen soulfully mourns that the girl he dumped Padgett for has ghosted him, then asks his friends (including Hall) if they caught all that on camera. (By the time of the film release, Hall and Rae were no longer together, which may make viewers curious how Hall now feels about that scene…)

Spencer X as the DJ
TikTok viewers may also catch the cameo of Beatboxer Spencer X as the DJ behind the karaoke competition. With over 54 million followers, the sound effects champ (who includes the label Mouth Music Man on his site) also has two singles of beatboxing and remixed vocals available on Spotify.

Kourtney Kardashian as Jessica Miles Torres
While Kardashian needs no introduction, this real-life friend of Rae’s takes on the role of Padgett’s sponsor, an exec at Bunny Venom, who fires Padgett when her image goes wrong. Kardashian became a reality star in 2007’s Keeping up with the Kardashians and is involved in fashion along with her sisters. Due to her popular presence on social media, Kardashian is regularly compensated by brands for featuring their products in her posts. She has also helmed the lifestyle website, Poosh.

A post shared by Tanner Buchanan Official (@tannerbuchananofficial)
Tanner Buchanan as Cameron Kweller
Coming from a more traditional acting background, Buchanan plays an artist who has no interest in the falseness of the high school world (and gives out sage words of wisdom)–though deep inside, he’s still mourning the loss of his mother and feel disconnected from his family and friends until Padgett breaks through his armor. Viewers might recognize him from TV series like Game Shakers or Designated Survivor, but the martial arts skills he shows off in He’s All That might be better attributed to the set of Cobra Kai, another Netflix production (after its first two seasons on YouTube Red) in which he plays Robby Keene.
Peyton Meyer and Madison Pettis
Padgett has two antagonists in the film: ex Jordan Van Draanen (Meyer) and rich girl frenemy Alden (Madison Pettis). Meyer is known for Girl Meets World and American Housewife, while Pettis made her name as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s daughter in The Game Plan on the Disney Channel. If her voice is familiar, it may be because the He’s All That mean girl also played animated characters including Izzy in Jake and the Neverland Pirates and Zuri in The Lion Guard.
Myra Molloy and Annie Jacob
This 2021 update to the classic teen movie features a secondary romance between two queer girls of color—Padgett and Cameron’s besties who hit it off, despite their social strata differences. LEGO fan Nisha is played by Annie Jacob, known for her role as Glory Moffett on Motherland: Fort Salem. Sweetheart rich girl Quinn is played by relative newcomer Myra Molloy.
Matthew Lillard as Principal Bosch
In the 1999 film She’s All That, Lillard played an obnoxious reality star who steals the girlfriend of the main character, played by Freddie Prinze Jr (also Lillard’s co-star in Scooby Doo). Lillard isn’t shown for most of He’s All That, as only his voice is featured for the majority of the movie, until the final scene, in which he’s revealed to be the principal of the high school.
Rachel Leigh Cook as Anna Sawyer
She’s All That lead star Cook comes back not as her original character, but as Padgett’s mom, who is a nurse working hard to keep them in the best school district. As the film comes to a close, a remix of the song “Kiss Me” plays at the school dance–a direct call back to the original film, which used that as the main theme. Cook’s recent Love, Guaranteed was another Netflix Original.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
While He’s All That offers no surprises, the cameos and callbacks to the original film make this teen movie enjoyable as exactly what it is: a familiar tale with the usual happy ending, updated for a new audience.
