Reading of Legends and Lattes (loving it), and I have to say…I imagine were they to meet Thimble (a ratkin?) and Tummuler (a Badger) would definitely trade recipes…wait! Thimble getting a recipe book published through Tummuler and Sons (didn’t they have a little publishing company?) it would be great! Same note, I imagine Thimble would get along with Uncas and Fred as well (also Badgers). Oh! And I bet thimble would love Leprechaun Crackers (note, not made with actual leprechauns). Yeah.

So I have ADHD to the point it's gotten hard to read physical novels. My friend and I have been listening to the audiobook versions of Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica, and there isn't one for Dragons of Winter. As a result, we're going to record a chapter each, alternating as we go, and send the audio to each other. I bought the hardcover online and:

IT'S ARRIVING ON CARETAKER DAY Y'ALL
I'm excited. 10/10 good job Simon and Schuster

I just found this in an old CotIG fanfiction of mine:
Jack, Jacksie, Jack-Jack the Giantkiller, Caretaker, the Second, not John's student, nobody's apprentice, chosen by Bert, the Frenchman, and Stellan. Clive Staples Lewis. You, my friend.
In 1917 you have met many people and you have become who you are, and who you are.
You have not become who you are not, which is good, but the people you happen to be can make it complicated. You have written beautiful things and you will write beautiful things and you have done very good, and very bad things, but the way you are here you don't know why.
When your friend died in war, and when your friend died in war, you couldn't have done anything the second time and it should not have happened differently the first time, as he knew.
You don't know the first time, not the you, you are here, but the first time made the second time happen, so you would feel and understand. So you would become you, both times.
When you had that walk with John and Hugo, and Hugo stepped through that door and did not step through that door and when he did, you met Rose and me, and Uncas and Fred and some others, you did not live through the same things either time, but they had the same result.
The path you took was right for you. Personally, I could not understand your (or the other Scowlers (am I becoming a badger?) Scholars and Caretakers) interest in these modern religions, as they seemed by no means more exciting than those I was used to know. But I unserstand your comfort - and the truth in it has opened itself to me, in some ways, especially through my dear girl I am to take care of. I am her tutor, but I understand much through her, that has never been in my field of intelligence if you understand, which you don't.
You grew through your fears and the shadows that haunted your past, metaphorically
- and literally. I have never been a sentimental or emotional person, so it is unusual for me to say such a thing: do listen to your heart, Jack. And tell John to do so, too.
People you know in your heart are people you have met in a different life and when time is right, you will become one with yourself, in just a few years or hours, as it might seem.
Do listen to Charles, and tell John to do so, too.
And ask John, how he met Father Christmas in thought. The truth might surprise you both.
P.S.: Don't tell Twain about this letter - or anyone at all. I'll pick out what's left of your hair, if you dare to!"
And I have to say... though I've forgotten about it, this us an excellent thing I've written.

(Technically it’s canon that Fred was a Caretaker and implied that Christopher Tolkien and Madeleine L’Engle joined him as the Next Gen Three. Headcanons regarding who came after them aren’t allowed because there are too many possibilities.)

goofy and indulgent crossover
i already made a post about this, but i don’t know why i didn’t just copy+paste the text into an actual post, instead of posting the link to the document??? anyways, you can read more under the cut, plz enjoy
When Rose has free time, and isn’t helping out the Caretakers or Madoc with the Archipelago and whatnot, she’ll take trips to the Summer Country. Sometimes short, sometimes long.
Sometimes she will take friends with her - like Caretakers or other Magicians - but not always.
Rose could be anywhere from still a young teenager, to a young adult.
She goes to a concert in the early 70s and luckily meets the band members after the show. What follows could go one of a few ways (or a combination):
Rose meets them and is slightly/very intoxicated. She shares information on things that they definitely should not know, concerning the Archipelago and such. (only problem with this is that they might find her kinda crazy - which could be interesting - but they may also be intrigued or amused)
Rose meets them and they hit it off. She continues to go to their shows and interact with them over a long(ish) period of time. (Rose becomes roadie???? dunno…)
Question: is there Trouble or Evil in their midst? Or is this a chill AU? The boyz could become involved in something bigger, most likely due to Rose - or saved by Rose?
Either way, Rose, of her own accord, decides they would (probably) be good allies, mystorians (if those exist still), or even Caretakers (if that role isn’t already filled by someone else, like Bradbury).
The boyz visit the Archipelago! (Possibly through the gate at the Kilns?)
Or people and things from the Archipelago visit them
The boyz at this time aren't HUGE, but gradually, as they get busier and busier, they visit less, and are involved less
Potential Caretaker placements:
Freddie: principa
Bri: secundus
Roger: tertius
Roger and Brian could share the role of secundus, making John the tertius of the group
John: The Fourth One, Or tertius
Or - Fred and Bri could share being the principa, making Roger secundus, and John tertius
General headcanons:
Brian loves the badgers instantly - fast bffs
Brian loves all the animals and they love him
Freddie plays the piano with/for Edith
Brian is possibly the nerdiest, and so gushing and excitement and endless questions insue
Roger KEEPS TAKING UNCAS’S FUCKING CAR OUT FOR JOYRIDES - ROGER STOP THIS NONSENSE
John is so nervous but everyone loves him
Other Caretakers call Deacy “other John” - or start teasing Tolkien instead
“How do you do, Jirt” “for the last time, Geoffrey”
Freddie probably loves Tamerlane House yo - big, extravagant, beautiful
Freddie’s (family’s) religion of Zoroastrianism (pre-Islam) strongly connects with themes of cotig
This Is Not A Headcanon This Is A Fact
Freddie knows other languages, like Japanese, Spanish, Gujarati, and Hindi - this would help in understanding or translating parts of the Geographica and other things
He APPARENTLY knew some German curses as well
He also knows a Hungarian folk song???
Brian and Tycho Brahe
Freddie and Byron
Freddie admires and respects all the Caretakers Emeritus, buuuut he isn’t a big reader, and so he’s nervous to be around them
“So are you familiar with my work?” “Uhhh no not exactly” “Or mine?” “Erm, i’m afraid not-” this goes on for several minutes
Insecure….
The band performs for them and everything and it’s so great
Bert LOVES them - he’s a dad he likes dad rock
IF roger ever gets angry or volatile while their at T.H., he’ll just go outside and fuck shit up out there, so he doesn’t wreck the house and become exiled - everyone else just hears yelling and crashing and everything from outside
John: “roger you all right?” Roger, coming back inside, covered in leaves and twigs and dirt: “yeah”
OR
Roger can be so blinded by rage, sometimes he doesn't give a shit, he loses control, he throws the only TV they have at TH out the window
Everyone is Smoking Buddies
They, for the most part, DO NOT smoke around the magicians - they are responsible(?) and caring adults - second hand smoking is bad
These boys time travel a lot??
Songs of special potential connections:
My Fairy King
Jesus
The prophet’s song
Who wants to live forever

CotIG Witch Hat Atelier au of the transplant variety or alternatively CotIG characters finding themselves in the world of Witch Hat Atelier.
The Young Magicians meeting the apprentices of Quifrey’s Atelier.
but mostly! How would characters like Rose or Edmund, or Poe or Houdini take to and be fascinated by the magic system. And would Houdini with his …whole thing…be aghast at the secrecy around Magic given its relative ease compared to whatever it is he did to gain his magic that Burton alluded to all of once. Then of course other characters with their own thoughts concerning the occasional necessity of Secrecy (capitalization intended). Also, who of the Messengers would have previously visited? I bet Hank. Oh! And of course the fashion of everything!! And can’t forget Fred! Would his glamour (or the Glamour Uncas employs that could be taught or leant to Fred) work? As I imagine a talking Badger could raise questions…and potentially run into trouble with the Knights Moralis learning of it and being the Knights Moralis immediately jumping to the worst conclusions you can. Let Houdini magically beat the Knights Moralis.

I keep seeing you emntion CotlG in you Fairyland posts, what is that?
Excellent question! CotIG is short for the Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica a fantasy series by James A. Owen. It’s seven books plus a novela thing. They are 1. Here, there be Dragons 2. The Search for the Red Dragon 3. The Indigo King 4. The Shadow Dragons 5. The Dragon’s Apprentice 6. The Dragons of Winter, 7 The First Dragon 8. The Dragon Knight.
I have generally brought it up in the same breath as the Fairyland series for two reasons. 1. It is an absolute favorite of mine along side Valente’s Fairyland, Michelle Paver’s Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, or Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. Neil Gaiman’s Sandman or a number of others. 2. It exudes such a fun vibe…
To actually explain the series. Three Oxford Scholars (John, Jack, and Charles) are put in charge of the Titular Imaginarium Geographica, an Atlas of all the lands found through out myth legend and literature…located in the Archipelago of Dreams…adventure follows. Some great fantasy stuff. A series you have to read in order otherwise you’ll be terribly lost in the later books. Some Timey wimey nonsense starts happening partway through…but it’s got everything. Dragons, Literary references and allusions, humor, excellent themes, some time travel. Talking animals in particular badgers. The Badgers (Tumuller, and later Uncas and Fred) some of the best characters. To tie it to Fairyland there are a couple of characters introduced after the first book that I imagine would get along very well with September were they to ever meet. Which is very possible given the confirmed existence of different worlds and possibility of travel between them. Be it by Wind, Dusenburg, Model A Ford (was it a Model A? Need to reread the Fairyland series soonish), Dragon, Dragon Ship, or some such mode of conveyance. The series was collected in omnibuses a while back under the title Age of Dragons…but for some reason these omnibuses leave out the illustrations (one per chapter) so I would get the individual books for those alone. What else what else…hm…I’d suggest looking up the tag CotIG or Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica…but spoilers upon spoilers. Will say there are some amazing artists to be found in a admittedly minuscule fandom. In particular @gayboymint and @souperluminal absolutely amazing and stupendous artists the both of them. All the art they do…spectacular to be sure. Let’s see let’s see….Am I forgetting anything…hmm I think that about sums it up? No wait! To actually sum up, CotIG or the Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica is another favorite series alongside the Fairyland series and I highly recommend it. Hopefully this answer was sufficient, if not feel free to ask a clarifying question or some such.

Pondering thoughts concerning CotIG (Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica) and the Owl House crossing over. Mentioned the idea of Hank “don’t get insulted by Elves” Morgan somehow finding himself in the Boiling Isles….partly because he’s from Connecticut like Luz….but also him being one of the original isekai protagonists (at least jokingly….I am unfamiliar with the history of the…genre? Genre doesn’t seem right. I digress). But, more random thoughts. In no particular order. Boiling Isles are Isles so could easily be in the Archipelago….but in any case both things have Interdimensional Travel. As always…there’s the question of if a Magic System of one universe stays or adapts to the Magic System of another. None of the characters of CotIG have Bile Sacks….but you’ve got adepts like Rose, Edmund, people who know a bunch of magic like Poe or Houdini…and while they might not have the specific Glyphs…they’ve got Magic runes and stuff…I imagine the language nerds of the Caretakers/Messengers (especially John and Alvin) wanting to learn the Glyphs..
Houdini would probably so mad if his magic (that was apparently very costly) didn’t work. So mad. Character stuff wise…Could imagine the Scowler boys trio ending up there. Or any previous trio or Caretaker. Given the Boiling Isles whole thing…could see Dante, Blake, Poe, Goethe, and the more supernaturally minded Caretakers finding themselves there. Then of course…mind goes to Young Magicians (mainly Rose and Fred) going there. Rose and Laura Glue chatting with Luz and Amity about fantasy novels (Laura Glue likely name dropping her literary famous grandpa). I’m pretty sure Fred (who I should note, for those unfamiliar with CotIG, is a Badger) would get along with Gus and King. Fred telling Gus everything he knows about Oxford. Also realize Laura Glue could probably relate to the Boiling Isles given the Pillars of the Underneath are the skeletal remains of Atlas…oh Luz finding Rose to have a sword to be so cool ….oh! And Laura Glue’s wings of course
Of course, there’s the question of Charles. Would he have a Doppelgänger in the Boiling Isles, would this Doppelgänger have an affinity for fire magic to rub salt. And, is Charles’ Doppelgänger’s fiction potentially much more popular than Charles’ ever was. There’s the question of how the respective mentors and such would react (mind goes to Charles being offered Apple Blood by Eda),
There also the time periods thing I guess…, but CotIG has time travel so where are good there. wait! Hilarious last thought! Luz being a fan of CotIG the series….whether it’s more or less obscure than her favorite series (with all of two fans of it in one universe) I don’t know…but it’s a funny thought. Doubt she’d enjoy Charles’ stuff though. and thoughts are running low. A smattering of half thought out thoughts really. Make of this what you will.

The Young Magicians at the University of KKC....
(Some CotIG Spoilers and what not) Just an assortment of thoughts of the Young Magicians (Rose, Laura Glue, Edmund, Fred) finding themselves at the University from the King Killer Chronicle. You might say...but wait Al! Wouldn’t Fred be super busy with Caretaker Business and Edmund with Cartographer business? Not to mention Fred is a Badger? Well...yes...but...Edmund could easily be going to the Four Corners for Cartographer business? And as for Fred being a Badger...well...If I recall correctly Uncas has some glamour thing in the Dragons of Winter that makes him look like a short hairy man so it shouldn’t be impossible for Fred to get a similar Whatsit (not to be confused with either the Great Whatsit or Essential Little Whatsit of course)....and even if the KKC Four Corners (that’s what the land mass is called right?) is in another dimension or what have you....Bast has some Glamour about him so I imagine some similar Glamour could be attributed to Fred. That preface out of the way.... Classes the four would take.(looks into what was taught at the University again cause it’s been freakin ages). Fred: The Archives, the Artificery (because The Children of the Earth seem very adept at tinkering and such things), and....Alchemy (that’s like cooking right? But with Science?) wait! I forgot Linguistics! Yes. Edmund: Arithmetic, Artificery, Linguistics, Alchemy, probably Naming? I’m not sure if him being an Adept or not would assist in Sympathy? Probably would try everything once? Getting along with the respective Masters of each field is another matter. Laura Glue: Tag along for Artificery (how does she make her Wings anyhow?), Linguistics, Sympathy definitely, Naming for certain. Medica possibly? Rose Dyson: Linguistics (I mean, all the Young Magicians are language nerds so...), nothing in the text...but I think she might take an interest in the Medica?, Archive work, Sympathy, and definitely Naming. I think I’ve said enough about Poe and Elodin...so as for other characters... Rose would I imagine would get along with Auri were the two to ever meet The Young Magicians in general getting along with Kvothe’s University friends. I’m not sure if they’d get along with Kvothe? Going by the head canon of Edmund being musically inclined could see him playing at..I’ve forgotten the name of the place... And...I’ve forgotten my point...damn. There was something about pondering the relationship between Naming and Shaping in KKC with the addition of Making along with Naming from CotIG. Oh! I do recall thinking Edmund and Rose would enjoy learning and playing Tak. Although....given Poe was once Prospero...and the name of the Wind....hm...hell. Maybe Poe also happens to be Taborlain the great...or however you spell the name of that Famous Wizard in KKC. Make of this what you will. Al, the Chronographing Cottager and Prince of Naming

Keep forgetting Tummuler is the last name for the Badgers.
Like...It takes me a moment to recall Tummuler being addressed at some point as Mister B. Tummuler (at least I’m pretty sure that happens). Especially since having their last name just be Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica would be a mouthful. Oh god...I can’t remember his full name but can you imagine the horror that would be Uncas’ full name followed by Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica? It would be ludicrous.
