Gotta wake up to this anon in the tags, undoubtedly referencing/shading what I reblogged here:

Nonny, at least say it to my face if you wanna call me an internalized misogynist, just cuz I don't cosign the predominately white court of popular opinion's dogma that ONLY sees Lestat as the female-coded victim of Louis' "abuse" of the crossdressing campy Queen Mother de Lioncourt; while you reject any acknowledgement let alone honest discussion of Lestat as the patriarchal Coven Master terrorizing his fledglings/children--even in effing 2022 when he's setting Rat Catcher ablaze with the Fire Gift in Louis' honor & kicking him out in to the hurricane--another round in the stormy romance of you two.

And plot twist: I (mostly) agree with nonny about Anne Rice, and how she engages with (trans)gender through Louis--and I agree with Nalyra that there's also complexity to how AR engages with Lestat LATER--10+ years AFTER IWTV & her daughter Michelle's death.

It's not at all easy to pin down, especially when in these convos about Loustat & gender, the most integral part of their dynamic is ALWAYS EXCLUDED by Lestans: CLAUDIA. She's only babytrapped cuz, as I've said 1000 times, Lestat was hyperaware of LOUIS' emotional/behavioral resemblance TO LESTAT'S MOTHER, GABRIELLE; and Louis' "maternal instinct," that resembled ANNE'S own excitement to be a mom.

Anne Rice is NOT saying Louis (or even Lestat!) represents her as a woman (in METAPHOR, not biology, DUH) cuz he crossdresses & gallivants around twirling his hair & flicking his limp wrists--I already discussed the effect of 18th century Franco-European dandyism on an 18th-century vampire stuck in the Rococo period (X X), where clothing is just ONE aspect of how masculinity & femininity are expressed--BY MEN.

Gender is MORE than Loustat crossdressing. Like I've said: it's misognyist to assume that everyone crossdressing is female-coded, while blatantly ignoring their BEHAVIOR--just like Nalyra said:

It's highly problematic to reject AR's own words being "not solid" evidence (anon), or downplay it as outdated/irrelevant (Nalyra), just cuz it doesn't align with your own interpretations. That's not how proper analysis of primary sources works. It's CONTEXTUAL evidence about the processes of personal growth; just like it's contextual how AR couched her shift to Lestat in direct relation to her tryna move past her maternal depression/grief via Louis. You cannot discuss one without the other, but that's all I ever see far too many ppl do: downplaying the foundational conceptualization of these characters within the books, film, and show alike; and hiding behind accusations of homophobia & misogyny rather than honestly engaging with the characters and their behavior. You wanna talk about misogyny? How about MISOGYNOIR, and how y'all don't know EFF ALL about BLACK MOTHERHOOD, and the hypermasculinization of Black gay men, to even BEGIN to fathom everything Louis represents in contrast & relation to Massa Lestat.

Cuz there's CERTAINLY a marked lack of discussion or acknowledgement about how race factors into all of this. I see NO mention/discussion/analysis of Lestat by that anon rejecting the other side of the conversation I'm arguing against--esp. the white privilege Lestat enjoys that allows him to be far freer with explorations of gender & sexuality than black!Louis, and thus embraced by his predominately white cis female fans--who find it so effing impossible/offensive to see the ways that HIS BEHAVIOR directly contradicts the feminist ideals about agency & autonomy they allege to hold oh-so-sacred--"crushing what you cannot own."

Which only further indicates that this particular propping up of Lestat in the fandom is being done at Louis'' expense in bad faith by bad actors running to everyone's accounts on anon and obfuscating the context they're even responding to.

Apparently Franco has all but been confirmed for the Red Bull seat next year. I guess I'm glad for him, but not really. That was supposed to be Daniel there. I can't be happy for anyone else. I try but it was. supposed. to. be. Daniel.

Look at it this way, nonny. The idiot who forced Daniel out of the seat because he wanted to do a trial run for 6 races flopped so INTENSELY hard that Red Bull was forced to look elsewhere. He spent so long gloating to the media that he's in the Red Bull, he trusted Helmut and he trusted whatever shit he was told, and he flopped. His career probably will never take off from this. He's never getting to be in Daniel's seat. He's never getting to be buddy buddy with Max like he wanted. He's never getting the main character edit. I think personally, while I cannot wholeheartedly support anyone like I did Daniel, Daniel would appreciate someone like Franco to take the seat than anyone like Lawson.

It will always have been Daniel's seat to me. I just tell myself I think if there's some vindication and karmic justice, it's that those who tried to fuck over Daniel the entire year by spreading rumours and making his last year a hellish experience, did not WIN.

my opinion on franco was non-existent at first, but this past couple weeks i’ve actually grown to love him. after watching some clips, he’s sooo funny and attractive— and he’s done an amazing job in the car so far!

as for the plot, i was talking with di about the request and an idea she gave sparked some inspo. initially it was going to be the idea she suggested, but it ended up changing a little bit but i’m still happy with how it turned out <3

While I would be happy for Franco (him over Lawson, anyday) It's how it ended that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

They could have allowed him the dignity and the respect to see out his career, especially because of the role he played in that team over the years.

They could have allowed him to announce it and have his family there.

At the very least, they could have told him, so he didn't have to spend what was possibly his last weekend in a sport he gave majority of his life to in that way.

They had him breaking down in the media pen, alone. Staying there until 2 am to put to rest his decade long career.

And all of it was for absolutely nothing.

For me, it's not about the fact that it ended because had to leave sometime or the other, he said himself he won't be there when he is 40. It's about how it ended.

This is, very unfortunately, going to be hard for me to stomach. 😫😒

Ps. I don't know if "nonny" is a tumblr thing, but it makes me smile when I read it.

i always got the sense he just wanted one last ride with max. if it had been the last races after summer break, i feel like daniel would have been happy to move aside. he just wanted to come home one last time. and they chose to hurt him in such a way it just. to everybody it seemed cruel. even to those who dislike him, they were like, horner's decision to do that will come back to bite him.

anyway looking at the state of red bull now, with max forcing that red bull into places it has no business being -- almost makes me glad daniel is out of that hell hole. RBR chucking him out into the singapore night like that actually put daniel into a healing forest fire, i think. you can't grow if you don't burn away the old. i think daniel is seeing it in some way, if the neck deep in bloom song choice has some meaning behind it lol. he truly has no debt to repay to RBR, and his choices in 2018 have been vindicated. it's sad how it ended. it will be sad for a while. but i think a year or so from now. it will hurt less because we'll be in daniel's next adventure era. i hope. i have hope.

Spaghettino alle vongole dai "nonni"

Si provi a immaginare un uomo che nella sua gioventù ha lavorato i campi. La mattina presto, quando i campi sono ricoperti di quella nebbia gelida e tutto quello che si vorrebbe sono cinque minuti in più sotto le coperte. Quando gli ho chiesto come mai stesse in maniche corte tutto l'anno, pure quando c'erano due gradi sotto zero fuori, ,mi ha risposto dicendo che quando lavori per campi da giovane, poi il freddo non lo senti più per tutta la vita. Ma lì evidentemente era un talento sprecato, come lo è stato quando ha aperto un bar dopo anni di lavoro in un ristorante. Quando quell'estate mi ha fatto una penna al pomodoro come non l'avevo mai mangiata prima mi son reso conto che forse i cicchetti di pesce che esponeva sul bancone non erano buttati là a caso. Infatti poi si è stancato di tutti i vecchiotti che andavano nel suo locale a giocare a carte e a bere ombrette di prosecco. Metti Van Gogh a dipingere di bianco muri per il comune e vedi cosa succede. Un giorno si è stufato, ha preso un rischio, ha chiuso il bar e ha aperto un ristorantino di pesce, 20 posti a sedere, "non potevo fare carne e pesce, sarebbe stato troppo dispersivo, così mi concentro su quello che mi piace e lo faccio meglio". Queste non sono le parole di chi non sa cosa sta facendo, secondo me. Gli spaghetti sono una sinfonia di piaceri primordiali, sottilissimi, probabilmente sono numero tre, fatti al momento perché come dice la moglie di Franco, Maria, "se li fai prima non è la stessa cosa", il sugo è diverso. Gli ingredienti per uno spaghetto alle vongole sono pochi, ma solo un vero artista riesce a metterli in risalto, forse con il giusto vino bianco, forse con le giuste conoscenze per le vongole che fanno la differenza. Quello che è certo è che non sono gli spaghetti alle vongole che ti aspetteresti, hanno qualcosa che solo Franco sa fare. E probabilmente è legato ai cinquant'anni di cucina professionale che stanno alle sue spalle.

P.s. Ogni piatto che esce dalla sua piccola cucina è una prelibatezza che ti fa domandare quanto ti verrebbe a costare mangiare lì a pranzo e a cena tutti i giorni dell'anno, pensando che qualsiasi cifra fosse ne varrebbe la pena, perché il signor Franco è un mago, e sua moglie Maria ti tratta sempre come fossi suo nipote, che tu abbia sette anni o sessanta.
