Prominent right-wing influencers Dave Rubin, Benny Johnson and Tim Pool have huge followings on YouTube and a fondness for the Trumpist talking point that allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 election on the former president’s behalf are a “hoax.” That’s not all they have in common: They also reportedly enjoyed lucrative deals with a content creation company that was a front for Russian propagandists. The Justice Department indicted two employees of the Russian propaganda outlet RT on Wednesday, charging them with laundering almost $10 million through foreign shell companies and violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act. The DOJ alleges this was done “to covertly fund and direct” a media company that produced videos whose content and subject matter were “often consistent with the Government of Russia’s interest in amplifying U.S. domestic divisions in order to weaken U.S. opposition to core Government of Russia interests.” The company’s description matches that of Tenet Media, a Tennessee-based firm co-founded by Lauren Chen, a creator for Glenn Beck’s Blaze TV (which fired Chen on Thursday) and a contributor to Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA. Tenet Media publishes content by Rubin, Johnson, Pool and other less-prominent influencers. According to the indictment, the production companies of three unnamed commentators were paid $8.7 million through the scheme. The indictment states two of the commentators were deceived about the source of the funding; the trio all described themselves as unwitting “victims” of the operation in separate statements on social media. But the Tenet Media saga demonstrates once again that Russian election interference is not, as these commentators and their allies have insisted, a “hoax.” It is a fact, a deliberate and ongoing operation by the Kremlin to sway U.S. politics. And the Trumpist right’s yearslong quest to rebut that reality have ended up ensuring that their entire information ecosystem is honeycombed with Russian propaganda. Special counsel Robert Mueller’s 2019 final report conclusively documented the Russian government’s systematic effort to influence the 2016 presidential election in order to help Trump and the many ways Trump’s associates participated in that endeavor. This was an inconvenient finding for Trump and his political and media allies, who had spent years fabricating a complex alternate reality in which claims of Russian election interference or corrupt ties between Russia and Trump and his associates were “deep state” lies. They responded by falsely claiming Mueller’s report had found “no collusion” between Trump and Russia, and used that lie to brand the entirety of the probe as a “hoax.” [...] No one on the right has done more to push pro-Russia talking points than former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, a longtime defender of Russian president Vladimir Putin and opponent of U.S. support for Ukraine. Russian propaganda channels sought to gin up Western support for its 2022 invasion by highlighting Carlson’s nightly screeds against U.S. aid to Ukraine, and in turn served as a source for Carlson’s program. A Russian state TV host even suggested on-air that Carlson take a job at his network after Fox dropped him the following year. [...] But Russia-friendly narratives about the country’s invasion of Ukraine ultimately spread far beyond Carlson. It became widely accepted orthodoxy on the MAGA right that sending military aid to Ukraine is a waste of money, that the United States is responsible for Russia’s invasion, and that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is the real villain of the conflict. [...] Russian interests and Kremlin-connected sources also fueled the right’s obsession with Hunter Biden’s business interests and the absurd related allegation that Joe Biden accepted a bribe from a Ukrainian oligarch — both of which right-wing media and politicians treated as major stories, with House Republicans making it the heart of their impeachment case against the president..
MMFA's Matt Gertz for MSNBC.com on MAGA media pundits being on the Kremlin payroll via TENET Media (09.06.2024).
Matt Gertz wrote in MSNBC’s opinion section that MAGA influencers such as Tim Pool and Benny Johnson have only themselves to blame for the TENET Media debacle in which they pumped out pro-Russia propaganda.

FLASH REPORT: American YouTuber 'IShowSpeed' arrives in the Philippines, causes Fan Frenzy for meet-and-greet in BGC [#TeleRadyoSerbisyoEXCLUSIVE]
(Written by Rhayniel Saldasal Calimpong / Freelanced News Writer, Online Media Reporter and News Presenter of OneNETnews)
TAGUIG, NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION -- The American variety and veteran YouTube sensation 'Mr. Darren Jason Watkins Jr.', finally set foot in the country today, part of his highly anticipated Southeast Asia tour. This arrival of the 19 y/o Ohio state native, straight from the United States of America (U.S.A.), created frenzy among his Filipino fanbase, which led to huge masses of crowds and traffic jams across Metro Manila.
Indeed, his Philippine adventure started off with a bang. He played at a local basketball court in 'Brgy. 39, Zone 3, District 1' in 'Tondo, Metro Manila, National Capital Region'. The place was thronged with fans as the eagerness got the better of everyone to get a glimpse of the male YouTube star. It set the tone for a day that became truly frenzy-filled and filled with fervor.
Before going to the heart of the city, IShowSpeed made a quick detour to a local Chowking branch on Bustos Street, Sta. Cruz, this said city and province. The fast-food stop served as an emergency impromptu meet-and-greet location, where he was sat and hydrate himself in plain cold water, as eager fans were gathered outside to catch a glimpse of their online male YouTuber idol. He followed up his interest in Filipino culture by riding on top of a Kalesa, a horse-drawn transportation contraption, waving a Philippine flag to the delight of all that watched, helping spur his growing entourage on in excitement.
The joyride to BGC turned out to be a spectacle in its own right, as the male YouTube star replaced Kalesa with a motorbike, knowingly called as 'habal-habal'. The ride through busy Manila attracted even more attention; traffic came to a halt with fans trying to stay alongside their idol.
The chaotic night concluded before 7:30pm at 5th Avenue, BGC, in a Mercedes-Benz showroom, where IShowSpeed found refuge amidst a sea of people. Outside the unforgettable local dealership at Cats Motors Incorporated (CMI), chaos was at nothing less than pandemonium. If this day wasn't exciting enough, IShowSpeed teasingly posted to the internet media, including 'TeleRadyo Serbisyo: Dumaguete' and 'OneNETnews' that he would be meeting the Boxing legend and former senator "Manny Dapidran 'PacMan' Pacquiao", scheduled for tomorrow on Thursday (September 12th, 2024 -- Manila local time) when social media would once again go ablaze in the star-studded encounter.
In LIVE chats throughout the night, rumors are rife that the IShowSpeed Philippine Tour may well extend to the Visayas region on Day 2, including Cebu, Bacolod, Dumaguete and Siquijor. For now, unfortunately much however, Mindanao appears to be out of its itinerary.
IShowSpeed's arrival most certainly has left an indelible mark within the Philippines, and his livestream drew in more than 300,000 viewers from around the world, over half from the Philippines with 56% online audience share in this video sharing platform. And as this male YouTube star still goes on a rampage in this South East Asian adventure, one thing is for sure: IShowSpeed fever has finally swept the nation of the Philippines, and it isn't going away anytime soon.
This ongoing tour to South East Asia would be continued across the continent, first stopping in Thailand and later adding probably with the likes of Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia -- all for this month of September 2024.

the way i see people fall for the latest racist anti chinese smear campaign like. i don't fully blame you because no one is immune to propaganda. but please, please for the love of CHRIST read some information outside of tumblr
#realize that maybe the reason you're seeing so much reporting on it has nothing to do with these issues and all to do#with smearing a foreign competitor#because when western devs do far worse do you see that reporting on it? isn't it strange that it only becomes an issue when its from china?#and remember because there's always that lovely language barrier you actually cannot check if what you're seeing is translated correctly#or even being willfully misinterpreted. which btw that seems to be the case this time!#it makes my blood boil#and people are falling right for it

#the background to this is more involved than I’d expected#apparently the bar on federal government copyright only dates to the 1895 Printing Act#which was passed to stop the compiler of these volumes of presidential statements—James Richardson—from asserting copyright in the thing#but were *TR's* presidential statements uncopyrightable as of 1907?#not under the 1895 Act unless published by the government during his time in office—§52 only bars copyright in government publications#so the 1895 Act precludes e.g. copyright in the president’s messages to Congress (§73) and veto messages (by operation of Art. I § 7 cl. 2)#but—presumably—not privately published (i.e. reported) or unpublished presidential statements#(this was before the 1978 Presidential Records Act asserted government ownership over the president’s records)#and presumably not under the government edicts doctrine either#unless the statements were made in the exercise or discharge of the president’s powers or duties#(e.g. commands as C-in-C or directions as CEO or communications with foreign governments)#but otherwise? political speeches? speeches to the public? statements made outside congressional sessions? probably not covered!#so! 🥲 in fact and not just sardonically

my only rant about BC is that their shop charges me, a citizen from a non EU country, VAT tax 🙃
#if retaking my uni's 2 levels of tax related subjects taught me anything is how to treat vat tax for imports and exports lol#and with how expensive their shipping to here is + all our regulations on foreign currency payments....... i'm not paying the same tax twic#recordshopx saves me every fucking year by not taxing me VAT + they have exclusive bundles which are very nice#the LOTSAD bundle was better tho. i expected a poster this time again not the shirt (which is awful. sorry) and signed pic#i hope they don't sign the pic with black markers on their black clothes like lost society did for if the sky came down lol#ps. i hope this doesn't seem like i don't wanna pay taxes because it's not like that lol but them charging me VAT is double taxation#i pay my taxes nicely and report the correct tax amounts to our customs unlike other people who import goods lmao

In country after country on that continent, the U.S. has, indeed, faltered and its failures have been paid for by ordinary Africans killed, wounded, and displaced by the terror groups that Bush pledged to “defeat.”
Nick Turse in Responsible Statecraft. The US knows the War on Terror is a big fat failure in Africa
Far from reducing violence, a militarized approach has led to a 75,000% uptick in terrorist attacks
With Kissinger's death I'm reminded that it's not that I didn't know about American miliatarism. All along the way there's been critical news reporting. Nick Turse has been on The AFRICOM beat since it's beginning in 2012. An important part of the story he's covered is the U.S. government has supressed his reporting.

i consistently ask myself why am i still here? i came to korea two years ago because it was the most straightforward way to escape the community that hurts me. there have been many positives, like amazing healthcare, great food, friendly people, sights to see that are conveniently located close to me, etc.
but despite them all, there have also been many negatives, namely the unwillingness to take me seriously, the abhorrent working conditions (different by industry but being a teacher anywhere is not fun), the loneliness of having all your friends move away after a year, the difficulty of making long-term korean friends, the occasional drunk men swearing and calling me a crazy bitch in a public place, the casual xenophobia inherent in korean nationalism, the coworkers who tell me "he's not korean!!!" and "that happened to you in korea??" when i tell them about my shitty boss at the shittier job that i left, that shitty boss who refused to let me leave the workplace unless i signed a document giving up my vacation days, the shitty employers who peek into our health documents which are only supposed to go to immigration, the fact that we even have to take a medical test and be 'all-clear' to even be eligible for a visa, the overwhelming amount of discretion given to doctors when they assess the data we give them, the overwhelming amount of discretion given to immigration authorities who can blacklist you for being fired from your job, the fucking lack of work-life balance
why am i still here? why have i not left? truly i don't have anywhere else to go but it's not like i'm living in paradise. i'll never make enough here to afford my own place, i'll always be relying on my employer to provide me an apartment. and having your housing tied to your work is so stressful and a perfect way to keep you from complaining about other things like vacation days, overtime pay and sick leave. i dont even get the 1 hour break per day that i'm legally entitled to
why am i still here!!!!!!!! i wanted to go back to school. i wanted to study immigration and refugee law. my time here has made it clear that i should actually be studying labour law, so that's what i want to do. but do i even want to do it anymore? i've barely made enough to pay off 2/3 of my (not even very big) student loans and then i'll be broke again, how will i even save up to go back to school? take more student loans and then have enough debt to disqualify me from renewing my visa in the future? what's the fucking point.
i don't know why i've stayed here or why i haven't left, but i know it's not because i'm happy
#mine#personal#rant#i hate my situation#ive never been rich but im really feeling it these days#i dont even want a lot of money#i just want better conditions#i want to not have my legal status held over my head so that the boss can make me conform#the people who become hagwon directors are the shittiest people in the world#some even threaten to report bullshit to immigration about us knowing that their ties to the immigration officers supersede the truth#and the fucking lack of evidence#i cant even say i love korea anymore#i used to; now i don't know#ive never really loved a country tho anyway so maybe thats just me#foreign teacher experiences#foreign worker experiences
