all three have been chosen because of their ability to effectively read people, their efficiency and because they're goal oriented.

additionally, grimsley is competitive, i feel like you share a similar way of speech (in terms of word choices) and i visually imagine you like that, but that's mainly because of that smug picrew that keeps appearing in the highlighted posts every time I visit your blog.

heizou instead is observant, logical, and has a sharp intuition while being on the more playful side. also i kind of imagine you as a potential detective @axjisai

I know this is kinda ironic to your current theme, but you genuinely always reminded me of Karasu.

My reasoning: (BARE WITH ME IM BAD AT THIS)

I take you as a very smart and analytical person. I immediately thought of this when I noticed how in depth your matchups are, how you use your words and interact, so on and so forth. You just seem (and ARE,) really intelligent, at least to me. You also have this sly and fun attitude too, kinda like him? For the other part of Karasu’s character, having trouble with mediocrity, I’m not completely sure about that part. I don’t know if you have the same insecurities. and you don’t openly insult people and call them mediocre of course, you’re very nice. So I don’t know is Karasu the absolute correct choice but then again, this is “the vibes you give off” and he just came to mind. @anglefish3008

When did you start writing?

as soon as i could hold a pen. i have notebooks FULL of little me's stories (i keep everything ive ever written. for nostalgia.) it was mostly silly escapism for a lonely child but now it's sweet to look at and giggle. from when i was maybe eight? nine?: "Pain and fear, like a perfect recipe. Pain and fear, milk and eggs"

Are the genres/themes you enjoy reading different from the ones you write?

mmm probably. when i say ill read anything, i mean ill read ANYTHING. i dont think ill ever write a hockey romance but im down to clown

Is there an author (or just a fellow writer!) you want to emulate, or one to whom you’re often compared?

poetry-wise Bhanu Kapil has been a massive inspiration for me. also Kaveh Akbar and Ariana Reines (Mercury sits in a place of honor on my bookshelf). for novels? i feel like i emulate whatever i last read. Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver did horrible (affectionate) things to the way i write

Can you tell me a little about your writing space(s)? (Room, coffee shop, desk, etc.)

my office! my favorite place in the world!! cozy lights (that double as gamer lights), diet coke can graveyard, comfy office chair big enough for me to sit in a way that absolutely destroys my posture. sticky notes everywhere (a fun challenge! can i read my own handwriting?) AND!! i have an audience

What’s your most effective way to muster up some muse?

reading something else, talking to someone about whatever im stuck on, setting a timer and just dumping everything in my brain (something in there HAS to be worth pursuing)

Did the place(s) you grew up in influence the people and places you write about?

Are there any recurring themes in your writing, and if so, do they surprise you at all?

overbearing parental figures that believe they're acting in the best interest of their kid... surprising when i realized that it's in almost everything i write characters that are good at heart but commit atrocities due to their circumstances... less surprising oh! and death. i write a lot about death (someone pointed this out recently and i was like huh. you right)

i would kick it with Robbie for SURE. snarky little smarty pants that can't sit still for more than five minutes, we'd be peas

*looks around nervously* ... Marcella (BOO!! TOMATO!!) im sensitive and she would be mean to me!! i feel like we'd warm up to each other eventually but not before she made me cry

they just kinda... show up. and reveal more about themselves as i write them

ougffff. lots of anger in these parts. most of my characters are angry, esp the women. as they should be

How do you picture them? (As real people you imagined, as models/actors who exist in real life, as imaginary artwork, as artwork you made or commissioned, anime style, etc.)

depends on the character! for main guys, they get listed descriptions but i cant picture them in my head (thank you picrew). but others? they're like. blurry shadows moving through the story (do NOT ask me what Uriel looks like! i DONT KNOW!)

What’s your reason for writing?

words in brain make story in head. need story out of head so i can focus on literally anything else no but seriously. that quote that's like "the only thing worse than writing is not writing." it's like. a maintenance activity. if im feeling especially wound up it's probably because i havent written anything lately

Is there a specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating coming from your readers?

if you leave me ANY comment i am kissy you on the forehead. just knowing that someone read it let alone enjoyed it... waoh

i am... trying very hard not to fall into self-deprecation here. i think there are things that i do well and things that i can improve on, but even if i write something and think it's "bad" i can still learn from it. all practice is good practice!!! (said through gritted teeth)

If you were the last person on earth and knew your writing would never be read by another human, would you still write?

yea! i would find comfort in it i think, same way i do now. have my little characters for company

I read Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley until 4am! I haven't been reading a lot of books these past few years so it feels good whenever I do manage to read one. obviously its dirgeposting time. in part cuz i dont have the energy today to unearth anyone else from my brain!

I am the WORST person to describe aesthetics because Im not a very visual person (im MUCH more literary) but if im going to try id say hes basically like if a rogue was a caster (which is also coincidentally what I do for all my warlocks lmao). He tends to gravitate towards high collars into open v necklines, that rogue penchant for sensible-but-form-hugging leathers but the caster influence takes those sharp leather jackets+armor and pushes it into a longer coat with a sharply tailored waist, and a sensibly fantastical amount of belts+storage. leg pouches elevate most any fantasy armor design ESPECIALLY for casters, theyre like garters to me. color scheme wise his is blue and black, tho i play around with accent colors like metallics. its really just entirely vibes

personality wise i tend to describe him as a very simple person with fun complicated reactions. hes stuck with a loaded backstory full of trauma, when he only has like strong opinions about three things MAX when not in a Plot™️. his habits and physical behaviors are loosely inspired by the weird shit wolves do when they like you, hes a weird little freak who barely shys away from Dark Urgin On Main, and if your trying to predict what he'll do using his various miscellaneous likes and dislikes, you only really have to think about three things: will he get to kill people? will someone hes close to have a strong opinion about this situation? does he actually have to engage with another person in a meaningful fashion or can he sit there and think about minthara covered in gore on ketherics throne and then give you a thumbs up to leave the interaction? this is literally the criteria i use when picking his dialogue options. hes very good at appearing complicated but the inner machinations of his mind are a gore powered fuck machine with very consistent reactions. makes answering stuff like this a BREEZE

if i had to pick a FAVORITE thing about dirge, its how blatantly weird he is, constantly. he was ironically better at passing for a normie BEFORE the lobotomy, despite being MORE fucked up. he rarely even tries to be Totally Normal, and while the weirdness is a sliding scale based on how likely it is to cause problems, he IS of the opinion that everyone hes with regularly will just kinda have to get used to it. so hes just saying odd shit, off the cuff, to everyone, constantly, and isnt invested even a little in hiding the cannibalism. its so fuckin great i adore it

fun fact! i only figured out pre lobotomy dirge and act 3 dirge were having symptoms of specifically OCD when i had a bad OCD spiral myself and ended up going through similar thought loops. up until then i was looking at his reactions to stress and trauma and considering any number of other anxiety disorders (with OCs i tend to let them breathe and react first, and diagnose retroactively). and then i remembered OCD can cause psychosis symptoms and ive literally had hallucinations because of it LMAOO. making some weird freaky little guy and thinking to myself "theres no fuckin WAY ive projected somethin onto THIS GUY" and then he has the same Vague Undefined Shrimp Color Crazy ive nebulously experienced for two decades before someone sat my ass down with a diagnosis like oh GODDAMMIT

As this is a cool picrew I decided to do a few looks for Morgan.

Pre-Reaping - She rescued one crow from a hole in her back yard, and now - well, she has a lot of feathered friends she can’t exactly communicate well with.

In The Reaping - Making her way across Hope County and trying to keep her strength up.  At least Foxglove is here!  She’s always pretty happy with Foxglove, although she needs to learn she can’t have sandwich, she has to stick to her own food.

I’m tired of not being interacted with.

I always have to start the conversation. My ask box is empty 24/7. Maybe once in a while someone else will start a convo with me. I constantly get notes and I look and its just the kosa post I made. I might turn rbs/notifs off or delete it at this point. Someone I thought was my friend fucked up our friendship and I realized they didn’t actually value me in the first place. I joined the discord right when everything fell apart and practically everyone left. Half of my friends aren’t online often. I’m active in the discord and try to fucking fix everything and keep it lively and fun for everyone and it feels like nobody else fucking cares as much as I do.

I’m just really lonely and I feel like nobody cares to speak with me yknow. I reblog or make ask games, and I don’t get asks any asks. I tag friends in posts and they don’t rb or just acknowledge them. People always liked and never reblogged my art so I gave up posting it. I don’t get tagged in stuff and that made me hate picrew/reblog chains so I don’t do them anymore. Im always initiating conversations. I vent too much and complain and I can be rude so maybe that puts people off from me.

I just feel like I have stressed myself by trying to put in so much effort just for others to…not? Even back then when I was an anon. I would send rambles and ask people about their day and be super friendly just for..barely any response.

The last time my friends seemed to care so much was when I made my suicide note post at like, what, 14? I was begged to stay. People said they loved me so much and I mattered a lot to them.

..And then the next day it went back to no interaction.

I have ONE fucking irl friend and I’m grateful to have her and she means the world to me but fuck I’m so lonely. I even just talk to my animals like people at this point. I try to send asks to friends and they never get answered or the replies are short. Nobody sees my posts despite the fact I have 44 followers. Which irritates me. And half of those people followed for art and I can’t even do that anymore.

i feel like everyone liked me better when I was in the Lu fandom and under the different name. I got way more interactions back then. People saw my art more even though it was bad. Friends sent asks and DMs. People responded to my tagging. I would reblog ask games and I’d GET asks. I would post something and it would get attention. But now it’s so empty.

I used to post a headcanon about a character and people would say they loved it. Now I do it and it goes unnoticed. I talk about shit I like now and nobody fucking cares. Nobody listens. It pisses me the fuck off. Oh but if I came back as old me and started talking about lu again I’d get SOO much fucking attention.

I saw friends talk to eachother in huge reblog chains. I saw people reblog their mutuals posts all the time. Constantly answering asks. Talking about dm conversations. Everyone I was friends with. It feels like being in a huge circle of people yet everyone forgot about you. Even when you cut people off they didn’t notice. And that really shows that you weren’t of value in the first place. They didn’t care. You meant nothing to them. There was always someone who mattered more.

I feel invisible and honestly unwanted. And that really fuels my whole abandonment issues. Its so nice knowing people will leave you because they always have someone who’s more important. Someone they favor. Someone more valued.

I could post a suicide note right now and suddenly people would care. People would want to talk to me. People would ‘like’ me.

soooo who wants to hear about me writing a very gay oc for Gotham knights (and ofc she’s in love with duela)

yeah okay it’s my text post not an open question

I wrote the basis of the character between 10pm and 2am so it’s neither perfect nor original. but i kinda like how it turned out:

My OC is called Camilla Jay Talbot (yes I watched both supernatural and downton abbey). She’s one of the knights obviously, 17, and a thief who’s the Row siblings’ best friend. Fun fucking fact, her middle name was originally rose because it was 2 in the morning and I thought the idea was good and not done before. Then I watched another GK episode and realized that Duela’s actress is Olivia Rose Keegan. So I had to change it quickly.

I already got a backstory for her but I didn’t get time to put it in a chapter yet. Basically she and the Rows are childhood best friends, and she lived with her parents until the age of 16. They… didn’t really love her (told you about the originality) but made her study very hard because they valu academic success above all else. She was gonna transfer to Gotham Acadmey for senior year.

But she’s a thief as I said, and she got caught stealing from a jewelry store and was sent to prison/juvie for three months. When she got back Gotham Acadmey said they would never take her and her parents kicked her out. She’s been living in homeless people shelters ever since, and recently reunited with the Rows when they left their father.

I have another thing I could add to her backstory but I’m not sure if I’ll do it because it’s very dark and I’m not sure I could write it well: in her first days on the streets she was recognized by a former teacher of hers who took her in, and she lived with him for a while, but her turned out very creepy and tried to take advantage of her, and she killed him but no one ever suspected it was anything other than an accident. I already hinted at it on the first chapter: when she’s interrogated Ford asks her “you never killed anyone?” and she replies “I didn’t kill Bruce Wayne” so there’s that.

For her appearance, I browse through a lot of picrews to try and see what felt best but I decided to stick to my personal favorite, poikon maker :

Her hair is colored because in chapter 2 she dyed it lighter so she doesn’t look like her mugshot (just like Harper died her pink strand blue).

Her clothes in this pic felt like what she would normally wear and I’ll update as I write the chapters.

Also I decided that all my chapter titles would be the songs on So Much (For) Stardust because i love this album and I feel like she would too.

a guide to starting a studyblr —

i’ve been in the studyblr community for many years now (just over four i think!), so i thought i’d make a post with all my advice for anyone lurking in the community thinking of getting more involved. of course i’m not the definitive authority on any of this, please take everything here as suggestions rather than rules!

what is a studyblr?

the term ‘studyblr’ has two meanings: (1) the tumblr community focused on studying, learning and productivity; (2) a blog about your experience as a student/with learning etc. having a studyblr is a fun way to share a love of learning with other, keep yourself accountable in school and find inspiration for notes or planner spreads.

the basics

so you’ve decided to take the plunge. where to start?

url - it’s a good idea to make your url study-themed in some way, whether it includes a variation of the word ‘study’ or references your favourite subject or something else to do with studying or productivity

theme - there are pretty much no rules about themes in the studyblr community! blogs of all themes and aesthetics can be studyblrs, though it may be easier to indicate what your blog is about with a study-related icon. alternatively, it’s quite popular to have picrews for icons to show a bit of personality.

introduction post - start your blog with a little introduction about who you are (name or nickname, age if you feel comfortable, pronouns), what you study, any other fun information and maybe even tag some of your studyblr inspirations

content - people post lots of different types of content, including and not limited to:

pictures of their notes, planner or workspace - these are generally the most popular

advice posts made up of graphics

masterlists/masterposts based on different themes (e.g. language learning masterposts)

text-based advice posts (like this one!)

reblogs! the best way to show your love to everyone else in the community

growing your blog

now you’ve posted some content, and it’s time to explore the community a bit more. it goes without saying that growing on tumblr is more of an organic thing, and if you’re coming to studyblr purely for notes then you may want to rethink your reasons for joining the community. nevertheless, validation feels great, and so does making new friends!

try to post regularly - an active blog will always help new people find you, and regular posts will help keep followers engaged

post original content - posting something unique to you will give people a reason to follow you specifically, rather than the same reblogged posts being circulated

that being said, reblogging from others (bonus points for leaving nice messages in the tags!) is a great way to introduce them to your blog. if someone sees your url in their notes often, they’ll be more likely to have a look at your blog

don’t be afraid to interact - send someone a message, send them an ask, reply to their posts, add compliments in their tags! generally everyone in the studyblr community is super friendly and open to messaging, asks and making friends, so get stuck right in

use tags - most studyblr have a tag that they track, and will usually go through and like/reblog any posts that use this tag. find out what tags your favourite blogs track and use them on your posts to help them get seen

now you’ve established yourself, there are lots of other things to do on studyblr! here are some ideas:

get involved in challenges - there are many different challenges to participate in. popular ones include the 100 days of productivity challenge, and the lovely @/myhoneststudyblr has many previous studying challenges you could complete. if you’re into reading, sabrina @/bulletnotestudies and the studyblr w/ knives discord server have lots of great themed reading challenges

participate in events - over the year some blogs will run events such as secret santas or secret admirers, which are really cute and fun to do. this february i ran the @studyblrsecretvalentines​, and i’m hoping to do it again in 2023.

play ask games and tag games with your friends - this is a great way to get to know more people and have some fun!

resources

finally, here are a few useful tips/resources for the more practical side of running a studyblr

your queue is your best friend - you can run up a huge queue of reblogs to keep your blog active during busy study times

i personally use the mobile app snapseed to edit my photos for original content, and find it works really well

canva.com is a great online, free editing program - i use it to make all the graphics for my post header and advice posts

my header and icon packs (that i’ve tagged correctly) are here! i have made other packs, though they’ll have to be found through my archive, sorry

momentum is a popular desktop extension in the studyblr community

lots of people also use forest (or flora, which is free) for cute focus timers
