Did you guys hear Disneyland Cast Members voted to strike?
It was nearly unanimous too, 99% of the unionized cast members voted in favor of the strike. This doesn't necessarily mean they will strike, more that when the union rep shows up to the negotiation table on Monday they'll have that extra bit of leverage. Hopefully that'll be enough to win them living wages and such. I don't have anything intelligent to say, I just feel a kind of way about this subject, I'm going to put my opinions under the cut.
Ok, look, I love Disneyland. Love it with a passion. You know what reminded me this was happening and prompted me to look up the story? I was thinking of updating this card I made for one of the many games I've come up with to play in Disneyland because I have a weird variety of hyper-fixation when it comes to that park specifically.
Tumblr media
So I am not speaking an ounce of hyperbole when I say Disneyland is my favorite place in the world.
But! Whoever the hell is making the big decisions around there needs to get their head out of their ass. I don't know if I should be blaming Bob Iger or Josh D'Amaro for the way the parks have been since the pandemic, but I'm going to blame both. I can deal with them experimenting with Genie Plus (I hate it but I'm used to capitalism), and I can sort of deal with the prices (I can't afford them easily but I'm saving up), but Disneyland has very clearly been trying to cut labor costs for a while now and it's incredibly baffling to watch. It feels like the parks are being run by somebody with a business degree from a sketchy "college" and zero experience with the real world.
They're cutting back on shows, overworking their existing staff, and skipping regular maintenance so they can operate the park with a smaller maintenance team. Overall it results in a worse experience for the customer, making it less likely that they'll convert new guests into returning fans like myself. While Disney World is a major tourist attraction that most people consider a once in a life time experience, Disneyland has always had a steady revenue from local Californians that return again and again. If you frequent forums about the parks you hear all about folks who live in SoCal that buy their annual pass (I know that's not what it's currently called, but that's what it is) and use it to get into the parks just to have dinner or rove around and maybe grab a churro. They might not be paying for Iger's next yacht, but those folks are providing a reliable revenue stream, and they go back again and again because for decades Disneyland has maintained a "magical" atmosphere.
And I feel like it's fairly obvious that the front line workers are the ones that make Disneyland what it is. Right? Like I'm not crazy, we all agree Disneyland would be nothing without the hard work of these cast members, right?
Why are they-? You need front line workers, why wouldn't you-? Do they not have years of research and experience backing up how beneficial a well paid staff is? I love the Incredicoaster but if all I wanted was thrill rides, Six Flags is an hour closer and a whole lot cheaper. I'm going for the complicated rides that require their own pit crew like Mickey's Runaway Railroad. Why are we even still having this conversation? I get that people like Bob Iger are a bit insulated from the rest of us, but the relationship between a happy staff and profit is well documented. Why wouldn't they just...? In the Disneyland subreddit a retired cast member post the Benefits Binder he got back when he worked for Disneyland and this thing was thick, it included health, retirement, and stock options. Somebody somewhere must have known that whittling down benefits while stagnating pay was not sustainable. Right?!
Like I said, I don't have anything intelligent to add to this conversation, but to be honest, I think everything intelligent to add has already been added. I'm just annoyed for my own sake and downright pissed for the sake of the cast members. I hope they get everything they ask for on Monday, and if they don't, I hope the strike knocks some sense into everybody it needs to.

I always say that Foggy has such an interesting backstory as his vigilante friend. And I'm not just exaggerating here.
See, Matt was abandoned by his mother. His father died tragically. He learned from an early age not to trust anyone. Netflix's Matt lived in poverty and this makes Matt's life both heartbreaking and even more tragic. I think all of this was necessary to show the fans how miserable that man could be. Most fans feel sorry for Matt, as if the man were some kind of puppy. I caught myself thinking that way when I watched some of his scenes. That sad, crumpled look of his… Anyway, Netflix's Matt became a martyr from his early childhood.
Foggy, on the other hand, has low self-esteem. The result, I believe, of years of abuse and neglect by a mother who chose a lucrative career over her son.
He grew up in a loving home, apparently. In some issues, we can see Anna being a loving and overprotective mother.
In the Netflix series, Foggy's family, especially his mother, is a little… how can I say, toxic, using a little emotional blackmail to get her son to stay and take care of the family business.
All those scenes of Foggy with his family made me feel bad for him.
And I would really like his family to value him as the special human being that he is, which I didn't feel in the series. Maybe that's what made the series so special for me, the fact that I felt a little Foggy in a place, a family that you love, but that you feel like you don't belong to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would really like to see Rosalind on screen. I'd like to know why Foggy decided to become a lawyer. I would love to know why he, even though he is brilliant, loving, a great person, has such low self- esteem.
Even more so, I would like to know why he, in the third season, pretended to be strong, when it was totally acceptable to break down.
Some things I'm afraid of and believe I'll never see. But I hope that one day, in a comic or even in a series, we'll see a little of what it's like to be Foggy. Not just the vigilante's friend, but the hero who beat cancer and fought bravely for what he believes in and loves.

Foggy Glasses and Corroded Copper Scene: Not Your Fault
He didn't know why he was there. Just a bad feeling, a thought bothering him, something like that. All she knew was that Spark was still in the classroom, and they looked a lot more melancholic than usual.
"Spark? Are you okay?" Fern said, taking note of Spark's blank expression and reddened eyes.
"Oh. Hi, Fern, I was just about to head out" Spark said, still immobile and sitting on the floor. They let out a sigh. "Sorry, I think I need a moment."
"Don't worry, it's okay. Can I sit here with you for a bit?"
"Sure, I don't mind" Spark said, though they hid their face in their arms.
As Fern sat down, she wondered why Spark behaved in this sort of unusual way. Even when they weren't feeling well, Spark reacted very outwardly, but they had barely even talked since Fern got in the room. Was it because of the lab accident?
"What happened?"
"..."
"If you don't want to answer, that's okay, I can just-"
"It's my fault... I'm the one who blew up the lab..." Spark said, their body trembling and voice stifled. Their eyes still couldn't be seen from underneath their arms, but Fern felt like she knew what they looked like
"What? How? Wasn't it Mist who misplaced that beaker?" Fern said, looking directly at Spark in a mix of confusion and anger
"Heh, I guess so. Even then, it's still mostly my fault." Spark stopped crying, and their voice stabilized, Fern could actually see the slightest hint of a smile on their snout.
"Ah, don't worry about it then, if that dumbass didn't do that the lab would still be intact, right?" Fern smirked as he lightly punched Spark on the shoulder.
Spark didn't respond at first, just quickly turned around with their eyes shut and hugged Fern. Their snout rested right next to Fern's face, hands clasped together around his back. Fern's face started feeling warmer, though she didn't exactly know why.
"Thanks, Fern, this really helps." Spark said, their breathing felt by Fern as they calmed down, a few tears hitting the cold floor.
"What? Oh, um... no problem!" Fern, as the feathers on his face became intensely ruffled. Waiting a moment, she then hugged Spark back, hesitantly placing his hands on the top of their back where their shirt covered their skin
What was this feeling? This hesitancy, nervousness when being close with them, the ruffled feathers. Could it be? Oh.

I'm pretty sure I've already seen some people redraw that one bladerunner 2049 scene (You look lonely, I can fix that) with their pc and a LI but I think it would hit the hardest with Avery.
The scene can work for every LI of course, with another close "best" contender being Sydney. Since Sydney is a pretty lonely person as well. Somewhat isolated due to their parents job and previous position in the church. But Sydney is also.. for a lack of a better term (and I don't mean this in a bad way) a very palatable person. They are kind, they're sweet. They're likeable.
But Avery. Avery is, out of all the LI's such a fundamentally lonely person and it's their own fault too. They're quick to anger once you brush past their chivalrous facade and a generally unpleasant as a person. They're difficult to like at the best of times. They're biggest advantage is that they're rich and make for an easy income. ffs they're own parents don't care for them. withdrawing their financial support from Avery on their BIRTHDAY lol, lmao even.
They don't seem to have any hobbies, besides work and abusing orphans. And speaking of orphans, despite Avery being the person with power in their sugar relationships they still are the one regularly getting dumped.
Just... I can't highlight enough how fucking lonely Avery is and they cope with it by paying impoverished, mostly underage orphans, because they don't know any other way. They're too much of a control freak.
This post turned out way longer than I initally intended. But yeah this is why I think that scene (in isolation) would hit the hardest with Avery. that bitch is in desperate need of human connection. Unfortunately she constantly sabotages herself in that endeavor. So what better than a human shaped substitute.

Camilo Analysis
Bruh, who even is Camilo? He is arguably the Madrigal we get the least real characterization for, other than Teenage Boy, which is a very broad category of person. So as per usual, it helps me to get my thoughts in order if I write this stuff down.
First, Mirabel introduces Camilo through song and we right of way see him shapeshift into a young mother so he can sooth her baby while she takes a nap. That's actually a really great way to imply several things about his character (oh my god guys, this movie is so well written).
Thoughtful enough to offer a new mom a chance to rest
Comfortable caring for infants (probs helped care for Antonio?)
More patient than I would have thought, because taking care of a baby while the mother rests is not a quick and easy favor
Sort of implies that he likes kids
Then Mirabel sings he "won't stop until he makes you smile today" while he turns into multiple people and doing goofy stuff. Everybody already knows he's an entertainer at heart but I gotta add it to the list anyways.
5. Likes making people laugh
6. Plays around with his gift a lot
Moving on to Antonio's party, he's the guy greeting all the villagers by name, and he changes his energy to match each person.
7. Knows a lot of the villagers
8. Charming and personable
9. Respects his elders (kisses the old woman on the cheek)
He jokes around with Antonio, probably in an attempt to soothe his nerves, and teases his Pa. This reinforces points one, four, five and six. If this was a different list, I would talk about what it means that Camilo is clearly comfortable teasing his father, despite the seemingly stern reaction Félix has, but I digress.
He stands with Julieta while Antonio and Mirabel walk to the door, giving birth to a lot headcanons about them being especially close, and I'm going to roll with it.
10. Of his siblings, he's closest to Julieta.
Then he's very excited for Antonio as he discovers his room, it's actually the happiest we see him in the movie (other than perhaps when he's dancing in We Don't Talk About Bruno). So:
11. Supportive? Or maybe just enjoys seeing other people happy?
Plot happens, fast forward to breakfast when he pretends to be Dolores so he can get double the food. Then teases Isabela about Mariano, something he does a lot in the movie.
12. Likes food.
13. In his Little Shit era
Fast forward some more, all the way to We Don't Talk About Bruno. He absolutely kills it, and clearly enjoys the whole production. If you're like me and you headcanon that the musical numbers happen in universe then we can conclude:
13.5. Fucking loves living in a musical
And if you headcanon they don't:
14. Enjoys telling stories.
15. Probably hasn't thought through the consequences of telling everybody his Tío is a seven foot tall boogy man that feasts on screams. Which is very normal for a fifteen year old boy.
Teases Isabela about Mariano again. More plot happens. Time For Dinner. Dolores gossips to him as soon as she can, then he immediately gossips to his Pá. When Félix accidentally spits his drink onto Mariano, Camilo has to hold in a laugh. It's possible he doesn't really like Mariano, he keeps making jokes about the guy, at the very least he doesn't take him seriously. I wonder if he's the sort of guy that prefers to hang out with women?
16. Close to his sister.
17. Close to his father.
18. Shapeshifts reflexively/accidentally.
More plot. We see him try to soothe his mother.
19. Takes care of his Má. Pepa is literally unable to hide her emotions, so it would make sense that, through no real fault of her own, the kids slowly learn to take care of her as they grow up. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and all. On the flip side, the fact that sun beams come out whenever they get home from school or learn a new skill probs means the kids can never doubt that Pepa loves them. Plus, she likely has the easiest time transitioning from a parent-child relationship to a parent-adult offspring relationship of all the adults. So Camilo might be growing closer to his Má as he gets closer to adulthood.
The longer the plot goes on the less we see him. He's clearly frustrated with his gift glitching on him, but that doesn't really tell me much. It's a situation that would frustrate anyone and they don't show us how he handles those negative emotions. They also don't show us how he handles hearing the end of Mirabel's and Abuela's argument. Rude. They do show us him leaping to the candle's aid while the house crashes down around him so clearly:
20. Sees the Miracle as more important than his own safety.
The house falls, the candle goes out, in the background we hear him first remark on his gift being gone, then wonder how this will effect his little brother. We already know he enjoys using his gift, I can theorize he's made Being a Shapeshifter an important part of his identity, but all we have that's concrete is:
21: He doesn't just enjoy his gift, it is important to him.
22. Empathetic.
Mirabel runs off, resolution happens, Mirabel comes back. He is the one who cuts through the reunion to point out their house is gone, and even gets a little exasperated when he catches a bit of flack from Félix.
23. Not an optimist. Might be a pessimist, but most likely just not particularly sentimental.
For the rest of the scene he exists in a state of confusion. The hits start coming and they don't stop coming. Apparently Tío Bruno is just suddenly back now? And it kind of seems like half the family isn't surprised or asking any questions?! There's not a lot of conclusions I can draw from him being shocked and confused that Bruno just sort of appeared out of nowhere, I think most people would be. And unlike the parents or the older cousins, he doesn't have enough memories from when Bruno was around to be swept up in the joy of seeing him again. His reaction is relatable and endearing, but not very revealing.
The last character moment we get is when he tries to twirl the shovel around all fancy, almost drops it, then checks to make sure Mirabel wasn't watching. It reinforces things already mentioned, like him being showy, and wanting to entertain those around him, but also:
24. Wants to be seen as cool. Another very normal trait for a teenage boy.
It is interesting that the first person he looks at is Mirabel, I can't help but wonder if that would have been the case at the beginning of the movie. There's room for interpretation there, but regardless, by the end of the movie:
25. Respects Mirabel's opinion.

I know you better than you may think.
Pretty people make you more nervous than you like to admit. You wrestle with envy and desire, unable to distinguish between them. You've realized you like being seen as a man, but you don't know how to define man, define yourself, how to stop feeling guilty over it. Don't worry about that right now. There are two gorgeous people looking at you across the room. They're nudging each other bashfully until they finally both stand and walk over to you. Why you? You're not even sure who you are. But they see it. The couple wants a new dynamic, they need a man like you.
But you don't know what they mean, you're not even sure you're allowed to call yourself a man, you think you don't deserve such indulgence. They tell you it's foolish, and if you're going to be their man, you need to believe it more than anyone else. They know what's best for you. You were born to treat them like a good man should.
You're embarrassed when they take you back to their place and command you to try on boxers and a packer. You try to protest, but the moment you put them on, the weight between your legs feels right. They see the change in your eyes. You were so afraid to give yourself this, because surgery is expensive and people are cruel. But you didn't need those excuses. You're here, as you are, and they're begging you to make love to them like the loverboy you were meant to be.

sometimes i'm like "i don't get how people think professor's hard to play. he's literally so easy once you know what you're doing. and so rewarding too!! idk why more people don't play him, he's super fun and easy!!"
and then i actually get matched with a hunter who knows how to go against him and it's just. ah. yeah. right. it's not that he's easy. it's that most hunters just don't see him enough to figure out adequate counters to him. so once you get matched with a hunter who actually has developed tactics to counter him (faking swings w/ emotes, deliberately missing their attacks, getting really close but not swinging to mindgame you into blocking, etc.), he turns out to actually be really fucking difficult
basically what i'm trying to say is that i get cocky way too easily when playing luchino and have to occasionally be punished for my hubris a la icarus flying too close to the sun

me: foggy & matt are a great example of platonic love and tenderness between male friends in media
also me in the same breath: foggy & matt’s relationship is intensely romantic and should be viewed through the lens of mutual “un”requited love. they are the most important people in each other’s lives, and while inadvertently friendzoning each other, their desire to have and to hold slips through. matt, while holding foggy in his arms, saying he wants to be with someone he likes listening to. foggy calling matt attractive. foggy committing himself to matt, that they’d share everything together, that their future was together, and matt smiling soft and saying it sounded like they were getting married. getting their first office together, and matt telling foggy ‘you’re not going to kiss me’. their relationship is messy, and desperate, and painful. they love each other but there is a cost. foggy having it all (a good job, a beautiful gf, a nice apartment) and still not being happy bc matt wasn’t beside him to share it, that ‘when matt was around I knew who I was’, and dropping everything for matt when he came back to him. matt pushing foggy away first bc he’s the one who can hurt him the most, and he’d rather sabotage their relationship than watch foggy walk away from him on his own volition. foggy refusing to give up on matt, even at matt’s worse, bc that’s what he promised -- for better or for worse.
