The best way that I can describe this man in this AU is like.....mostly deadpan, with an occasional snarky quip, he kinda just rolls with the flow at this point. He's very much past his prime, and is now just very calmly sitting in the passenger seat while Hat kid rams her scooter into the nearest cement wall.

He is the only real sane voice of reason in the entire kingdom, Which is why Hat always bothers him with all her problems.

Something I can mention w/o having to be vague is the fact that, - yes, in this universe dad snatcher is a thing. It NEVER comes up in the main story, mostly because I decided I wanted it to be a side thing entirely(backstory for the two kingdoms). Hat kid isn't actually aware of this until post-plot, which is when their relationship really starts to blossom.

In the meantime, he's just her super secret lawyer that nobody really knows about.

You probably get asks about this constantly, but how did you make the FR Dragon Size Comparison project? ie What's it coded in? What did you use to scale the sprites so they (relatively) match? More importantly, would you care if someone were to make an updated version (including new breeds, etc)?

The size comparison program is made entirely in vanilla, client-side JavaScript (meaning there's no server and it all runs from the browser). The scaling is extremely basic, it literally just sets the image size to the dragon's size in centimeters, divided by 2 ( so a 4 meter dragon is 200px). The wings are a second image within the same div that follow the same scaling rules. I drew all of the images myself which is why they match.

I am fine with someone else making a new version. You can even use my code and images as a springboard for your own. I just ask that if you do use what I've made, you credit to me and also let me know about it. I just added a license to my github repo: https://github.com/emcall/dragonsizes/tree/master

I do intend to update the thing myself, eventually, but have hit a roadblock:

Specifically, I want to overhaul the thing to use vectors instead of raster images, to increase the image resolution, allow a range of color options, and make it easier to add new breeds. However, for some reason I cannot get my vector images to scale programmatically. I've tried many things that never work even though I know it is both possible and fairly trivial. I get easily frustrated with this sort of thing so on multiple occasions I have just given up after trying for hours.

I haven't added any new breeds for two reasons. Firstly, if I'm going to switch to vectors, making temporary rasters feels like a waste. More importantly, though, I'm just not as interested in Flight Rising as I used to be. I haven't kept up with the game and don't really think about it much anymore. This is likely to change, as I am prone to going back to games after a couple years away, but right now I find it hard to get motivated.

If anyone has specific advice about this, I'm all ears.

cause. you know. pirates aren't just a cutesy vaguely historical aesthetic. they killed people. regularly. and also kidnapped people. and stole shit. and did a lot of other things i wouldn't be allowed to mention on the site. they still do, actually, they're just not doing it with swords and wooden sailboats anymore. to be clear i don't object to any of this being on the site nor do i have any problem with the aesthetic or it being largely used as just an aesthetic, it's just. when you want to toss in a word like "pirate" as a worldbuilding element, i think you should have to think about what you're implying and how this fits into your intended world a liiiiitle bit deeper than "funny themed restaurant i went to a 5 year old's birthday party and had "kraken fries" at once" before you give the go-ahead.

or does pirate in this world just mean something like "freelance seafaring trader/scavenger/merchant"

Thanks for this! It’s good they mentioned it. I do not get the mean friends dynamic it REALLY freaks me out haha. But I think it’s a literal (not cute internet word) trauma response from me. I have just such a low tolerance for passive aggression and snipping. Like. It’s just not that hard to be kind to your friends. And why would you want to be rude? Cuz you can get away with it? Does it bring joy? Snapping at ur friends? I quite literally don’t get it haha. Like my friends and I tease each other but I would never go “WHAT” that aggressively at my friend. Do Not Get It haha.

I was worried it was like a power dynamic thing and I’m relieved to hear they’re just like that and once again I’m just thin skinned and probably missing social cues again.

I don't usually pay attention to FR dragon sizes, so every now and then I'll rediscover how absolutely enormous Ridgebacks are and take psychic damage, because I have a mental image of how dragon sizes relate to each other and if you look up "Flightrising Dragon Size Comparison", it doesn't match at all

I mean, Coatls are HOW big??? I have a Coatl who is 7.61 meters long, which is ~24 feet...I've always pictured him being horse-sized, not the length of approximately four 6ft men
