Summary; reader comes to the firehouse for a night of uninterrupted games with the guys when a seizure hits.

The sun was setting over Chicago, painting the sky in warm hues as you walked toward the firehouse. You had planned to visit your friends, Matt and Kelly, after a long week. As you approached, a sense of comfort washed over you, knowing you could count on them for support and laughter.

Inside the firehouse, the atmosphere was lively. Laughter echoed through the common room as the crew shared stories. You stepped in, greeted by Matt’s warm smile. “Hey! Glad you made it.”

“Wouldn’t miss it,” you replied, feeling at ease.

As the evening progressed, you found yourself sitting with Matt and Kelly, discussing everything from work to life. But amidst the laughter, a familiar sensation crept over you—an aura that signaled a seizure was coming. You tried to brush it off, hoping it would pass.

“Are you okay?” Matt asked, noticing your sudden stillness.

“Yeah, just a little dizzy,” you lied, forcing a smile.

But it was too late. The world began to blur, and you felt your body stiffen. Your vision darkened, and the sounds around you faded into the background.

When you came to, you were lying on the floor, surrounded by concerned faces. Matt was crouched beside you, worry etched on his features. “Hey, you’re okay. Just breathe,” he said softly, his voice cutting through the haze.

Kelly was on the other side, holding your hand. “You’re safe, we’re here,” he reassured you, his grip firm but gentle.

As you tried to focus on their voices, the fear began to dissipate. “What happened?” you croaked, trying to sit up.

“You had a seizure,” Matt explained, his eyes never leaving yours. “But you’re alright now. Just take your time.”

Kelly adjusted his position, ready to assist you if needed. “Do you remember anything?” he asked.

“Just… a blur,” you managed, feeling shaky but grateful for their presence. “I’m so sorry.”

“Don’t apologize,” Matt said, his voice steady. “This isn’t your fault. We’ll always be here to help.”

They stayed by your side, offering support as you regained your bearings. Matt kept talking, his soothing words grounding you. “You’re stronger than you know. We’ve got your back, no matter what.”

Kelly nodded in agreement. “We’ll figure this out together. You’re not alone.”

Slowly, you felt the room stabilize, and the tension in your body eased. With Matt’s help, you sat up fully, leaning against him for support. “Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it.”

“Anytime,” Matt said, smiling gently. “Just promise us you’ll take care of yourself.”

“I promise,” you replied, feeling a sense of relief wash over you. With them by your side, you knew you could face anything.

As the night continued, the laughter returned, but this time, it felt different—stronger, filled with the bond you shared. You realized that with friends like Matt and Kelly, you could navigate even the toughest moments, knowing you’d never have to face them alone.

It felt a little strange. You couldn't remember when was the last time you had seen him or even heard someone mention his name. Yet he was here, face to face with you, after all those years.

"What are you doing here?" Severide asked. His voice brought you back to the present. By the look on his face, you could tell he was surprised. If it was a good surprise or a bad one, you couldn't tell. He’s always been really good at hiding his feelings. "I thought you had moved to Florida." 

"I-I did." You smiled, nodding your head. "Couldn't get used to the weather, though." You confessed, earning a short laugh from the firefighter. You stared at him for a few seconds, lost in your thoughts, not knowing what to say next.

“So,” Severide tilted his head to the side. “What brings you back to Chicago?”. He curiously asked. “Don’t tell me it’s because of the weather.”

You laughed, then flashed a weak smile, looking at the paperwork in your hands. “Work, actually. A new school just opened up and they got in touch with me. Apparently they heard about the work I was doing down in Florida and wanted me to be part of their team.”

“That’s great.” Severide smiled. “I’m sure you're the best person for the job. You never loved anything more than teaching.”

The way he said it made your chest hurt. Your smile instantly faded away. “Kelly…” You took a step closer, trying to keep the conversation private. “Don’t do this. You know I loved you. Right?” You gently squeezed his arm.

“I know that.” He nodded, looking away before meeting your eyes again. "I know you loved me. I just don’t understand why you didn’t love me enough to stay."

The words caught you off guard. Before you could say anything back, he softly touched your hand on his arm and wished you goodbye.

Ok so this is my discourse in response to @stellariders post a while back. Linked at the end.

1. Kelly should have been captain 3-4 seasons ago and I'm tired of them using the excuses of paperwork or being behind a desk because I've seen Van Meter behind a desk & talking about about how backed up they are on cases which is PAPERWORK. When he is in the field, it's after all the "action" that they speak so highly of has already taken place & it's more so like solving a puzzle rather than running into a fire. Atp I'd respect it more if they said Kelly can't be captain because he can't be Stella's commanding officer at the same house.

2. I'm sorry. I love Hermann however I'm struggling with seeing how the hell I'm supposed to take him seriously as captain on a scene or call when they've NEVER shown him in that light. The last time I saw him really fired up regarding a call was the factory fire. Also they haven't shown an ounce of Hermann actually preparing or studying for the exam. So we're supposed to believe that the same Hermann that failed the LT exam how many times passes the captain test on the first try? OK...

3. Mouch doing more has at least been foreshadowed now for a while. The episode in which he saved that kid & Casey talked about the retirement age going up. Also, Mouch has at least been acknowledged by the CFD with a commendation back in S9 & helped out with Paramedicine. We've seen his journey & arc build a little bit more than Hermann, so even if it wasn't for a potential Stella pregnancy on the horizon, I could still rationalize Mouch wanting to do more. We've never seen that same arc for Hermann, so it makes it hard for me to get behind it.

4. The disparity in storytelling amongst the cast is starting to become problematic for me. Stella & Ritter are the main two that stand out to me in this moment, but I'm sure there are more examples. Ritter has been on this show in some capacity since season 7... there is absolutely no reason why he has been treated like a background player all this time & is just now starting to get an inch of more screen time when Carver has had MULTIPLE arcs of the course of his FIRST season & now this one. Hell Novak is in her first season as a series regular & we already know a little bit about her past & what makes her tick. Not even about to start in on Stella because yall already know how I feel about it however what I will say is Stella Kidd deserves more than 1 GOF episode a season & 1 episode where she's fighting for the underdog. All of her other stories are directly or indirectly associated with Kelly/Stellaride/ white men, causing her unnecessary grief.... Casey never had this many damn personnel issues in the 10 years he was on T81. I'll leave it at that.

5. I'd love for Squad 3 to get some new blood. Not saying I want anyone to go anywhere, but I'd love to see Kelly Severide have to navigate teaching & training someone new. Add another man or woman to the crew & let's really see how Kelly's leadership comes through.

Same for Engine 51... like i find it interesting that they gave Ritter up to Truck yet won't commit to Kylie joining Engine full-time. Like outside of Hermann, who the hell else do we now know on engine? No one..

6. I'm confused by how close Kelly & Pascal have gotten in such a short amount of time. Historically, Kelly has always been very reserved when it comes to change, especially change in power dynamics. I also find it interesting that they continue to isolate him for the other members that he's worked alongside for much longer yet have planted this Pascal & Severide relationship dynamic. We've been asking for Kelly & Violet since S11... hell the Kelly & Mouch episode we got in S11 was adorable. I'd take him, Ritter & Carver, yet we're getting him & Pascal who clearly has an issue with Stella, his wife. Feels intentional

7. If they are committed to not actually giving Stella an appropriate backstory, then they should at least commit to strengthening her bonds in the house. They did that really well in earlier seasons, like mentioned about her relationship with Enily Foster. Same can be said with Casey, Otis, Gallo, Boden & Kylie but none of those people outside of Kylie are on the show anymore. Felt like when Stellaride got married, they were like alright no more family dynamics with anyone else except for Kelly & thats so not fair to her character. She mentioned it to Boden that her real family is the house. OK, so let her actually build out more relationships with the people that are there now.

8. I know I'm a vocal Newman critic, but I also like to think I give credit where credit is due. I made a few posts ranting & raving about how S12 for what it was (short, needed to be executed quickly) was a REALLY good season. It's why I was so excited for S13, but we're 8 episodes in & i fear we've lost the plot. Like, i go into these episodes with such high hopes because the meat is THERE yet walk away from some of them wondering wtf was that. Like, I'm almost wondering if S12 was so good for her because it was shorter, so there wasn't much room for filler because it honestly fills like she doesn't know what to do with 22 episodes. Grant it, we have an entire back half of the season to go, so I could be speaking too soon. However, I don't know what to even anticipate for the rest of S13.. like i have concepts & my own personal wants, but I don't have actual faith that it'll come to life because everything she's teased thus far has been so far from expectations.

Damon had so much more potential. As a firefighter, brother, & brother in law. That baby convo could have touched on so much more of Stella's fear & what the actual cause of that dread she spoke about could be coming from. Violet could have actually apologized to Carver & explained her grief/ why that caused her to ice him out. Even if they didn't make up right away, it would have set the groundwork for what they'd work towards if they're actually endgame(sometimes i don't know). Ritter getting blown out of a window could have been dug into a little deeper. Even the blood program that Novak proposed a call linking to why it is so important would have just driven the messaging home.

I saw a tweet a while back that basically said it's not character or plot development if it happens off screen & we never see it. It feels as if recently a lot is playing in the background or off the pages that we're somehow supposed to know is going on without ever seeing or hearing it. I love this show, this cast & think if shows like the Law & Order franchise or Grey's can be on air for decades, then so can Fire. I really hope the back half of S13 kicks it into high gear & starts connecting dots for me because I want to get renewed for 3-5 more seasons! I'm simply not ready to let them go, especially when there's so much left in the tank they just need to have the right pieces in the right places to execute effectively. 😫

“I’m leaving” Blake said. I let that sit in my head for a moment. Did I hear that right? Blake is leaving Chicago?? ���Sorry what did you say Blake” I asked looking at him. As if I didn’t hear him say that. “I’m leaving Y/N” Blake said. “Leaving the department” I asked.

||”that’s just the way life goes”||

“Well leaving 51 and Chicago” Blake said. I sat down on the bench in the locker room. Looking at him in disbelief. He sat beside me. Placing a hand on my shoulder. As if that provided me any comfort. Normally it would have. But not today not right now. “Y/N please say something” Blake said.

“I can’t even think right now Blake and want me to say something” I said. “I just want you to be honest worth me” Blake said. “I can promise you if I was honest would wouldn’t like me” I said. “You understand why I’m doing this right” Blake said. “No I don’t Blake I get you are taking care of your aunt but” I said. “But what” Blake asked looking at me.

“We’ve all been your family here and now you just wanna up and leave” I said. “I don’t expect you to understand” Blake said. “No I just Blake what am I gonna do without you” I said. “You’ll be okay” Blake said. “How” I said. “I just need to do this” Blake said.

“But I just thought you wanted to stay here Blake” I said. “I love Chicago and 51” Blake said. “That’s it just Chicago and 51 Blake” I said. “What’s that supposed to mean” Blake said. “You are going to pretend that there was nothing going on between us” I said. “Y/N.. I just don’t know what I want from you” Blake said. “Don’t know wow okay” I said standing up.

“Y/N” Blake said. I didn’t look at him.

“I guess that’s just the way life goes huh” I said. “Please don’t act like this” Blake said. “After everything we’ve been through and what I’ve done for you” I said. “You’re right” Blake said. “Then tell me why you can’t stay and see what those leads too” I said. “Because I know what I want and you clearly don’t” I said yelling.

Everyone heard me.

“Don’t yell please” Blake said. “And why not I was the last person you told” I said. “You knew” Blake said. “Of course I knew Ritter told me and you couldn’t” I said. “Out of everyone I should’ve been the first person you told” I said. “Then what I have to watch you look at me like you are right now” Blake said yelling. “You could’ve told me first then it wouldn’t hurt as much as it does now” I said.

“Guess it’s the way life goes isn’t it” Blake said. “Don’t pull that line with Blake” I said. “You wanted the truth didn’t you I wanna leave what’s keeping me in Chicago” Blake said. I didn’t say anything.

Did he really just say that?? Nothing is keeping him here.

“I’m sorry but I see no reason why you should stay then leave” I said. “What” Blake said. “Then go if you wanna go” I said crying. “Just pretend like us kissing was nothing” I said. “You wanted me to tell you how I felt” I said.

|| “I love you , I’m sorry, you were the best but you were the worst” “as sick as it sounds I loved you first”||

“Okay then” Blake said cleaning out his locker. “That’s it” I said. “Yeah that’s it Y/N I’m not going to fight for something you clearly don’t want” Blake said. “Guess I’ll see you then” I said. “And here” Blake said giving me a note. “What’s this” I said. “Consider it a goodbye a guess” Blake said. I then hugged him. “I’m sorry” I said. “I gotta go” Blake said leaving. I just stood there upset.

Ritter came around the corner.

“You aren’t going to chase after him” Ritter said. “He doesn’t want me” I said. “How do you know that” Ritter said. “I guess the whole friends with benefits was stupid” I said. “Are you gonna be okay” Ritter asked.

“I’ll be fine” I said. “Just don’t need you to go down that rabbit hole like after your ex left” Ritter said. “I’ll be fine I promise” I said leaving.

Later..

I set my bag down on my counter. The note then fell out. I know I should open it but I can’t. Although I am very curious as to what he wrote. I grabbed a glass of wine. I then took the note and sat down.

I took a deep breath before opening it. I then opened it. Skimming over the beautiful handwritten note. I smiled to myself.

The note said:

I know what you are thinking Y/N, why would I write you a hand written note. It’s something I’d never see myself doing either. But here I am writing you this note. I guess I’ve never been good at explaining myself. But I feel like this is easier. Honestly because I can’t say this face to face. I just don’t want to break your heart. But I’m sure I already have by leaving. I just wanna say I’m sorry.

I kept pushing you away and you’ve always been there for me. Through everything I know your thinking that I’m a dick. I’m sorry I never wanted to be. But it’s easier for me to write this down. Because you deserve an explanation from me. Truthfully you deserve all the love this world has to offer you. I can’t begin to describe the things I love about you. That beautiful smile and your laugh. Those eyes that drive me crazy. I really thought I could do the whole friends with benefits thing. But looking at you and being around you. I knew I couldn’t.

Maybe I’m an idiot but I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way before. Well not in a long time. I love you so much. But I feel like I need to do this. And I’m not asking you to wait for me. Because if you love something sometimes you need to let it go. And this is killing me. God I just wish I could hold you right now. I’m so sorry for everything I did. Leaving writing this letter to you. Please know that I love you so much. Please keep doing the city proud. You are a hero and you’ll always be my hero. I love you always Y/N never ever forget that.

I put the note down and took a deep breath. I then started sobbing. How could I just let him go. He doesn’t even know how I feel. I should text him but he said it himself. If you love something sometimes you need to let it go.

Thanks a million♥️ So for the Brian ‘Otis’ Zvonecek requests I was thinking something along the lines of (reader aka y/n) is a new paramedic at firehouse 51 and everyone including Brian is shocked when she takes an immediate interest in him by flirting with him in front everyone… it’s not a perfect idea so pls feel free to adjust where you feel necessary, this is more of like a guideline than anything.

I was watching the episode where Terra Little joins 51 for a training shift and Otis is attracted to her but of course she chose Kelly Severide instead🥱 so I thought it would be a nice change if Otis is the guy she instantly gravitated towards because it’s very possible I mean he’s adorable common.

"And that would be everything" Sylvie said as she finished giving you a tour of the firehouse.

Joining the 51 had been nerve-wrecking for you ever since you found out your transfer had gone through, mainly because you knew how tight everyone was and you didn't want to intrude on anything.

"Thank you for showing me around. This is much nicer than the last firehouse I was at" you said, admiring the trucks and the ambulance, which was so much nicer than your previous ones.

"How was your last firehouse?" she inquired, not having received much information about you from Chief Boden.

"Typical boy house. I was the only female in the entire house, so you can imagine the atmosphere. The only one who wasn't bothered by my presence was my partner, but we were the same age, so that helped a little" you explained, continuing to walk around.

"I can promise you that it's going to be different here. Our guys are the best, you're going to fit right in with everyone" she smiled and wrapped an arm around your shoulder, steering you in the kitchen direction.

You didn't say anything as you slowly walked towards everyone, each of them minding their own business in the kitchen.

"Guys, this is Y/N. She's the new paramedic I was telling you about" Sylvie announced as you stopped in your tracks where everyone could see you.

"Hi" you said and waved shyly, not used to having so many intimidating pairs of eyes on you at the same time.

Each of them got up and introduced themselves one at a time, wishing you a warm welcome.

"I'm Brian, but everyone here calls me Otis. Welcome to 51, I hope you'll feel at home here" the most handsome man you'd ever seen said as he stood before you, hand outstretched.

You slowly brought your hand up and shook his, electricity quickly spreading through your body when your skin touched his. You inhaled a deep breath, Otis doing the same, which made you smile because it only meant that he felt the connection too.

"Y/N, nice to meet you. I'm positive I'll feel more than welcome here, especially with you around" the words stumbled out of your mouth before you could even think about stopping them.

You saw a slight blush coat Otis' cheeks as he looked around at his colleagues, all looking at the interaction between the two of you with much interest.

Otis cleared his throat and made you snap back to reality, suddenly becoming aware of everyone staring at the two of you and your hands still holding onto each other.

"Otis, why don't you finish the rest of the tour? Show her where we sleep when on shift and the lockers and showers and everything" Sylvie spoke up, sneakily winking at the flustered firefighter.

"Um, ye-yeah, sure. This way" Otis said and motioned for you to follow him.

You turned around briefly to look at Sylvie, who winked at you and smiled, making you smile back.

"She did this on purpose, didn't she?" you asked him, trailing after him down the corridor.

"Sylvie? Yeah, she likes to think she's Cupid and her main goal in life is setting people up every chance she gets. I'm sorry about this" he said, scratching the back of his neck.

"You don't have to be sorry, I'm not complaining one bit" you smiled at him, trying to show him that you were enjoying the situation to the fullest.

"Oh, great. That's, um, that's good" Otis said, cursing under his breath at how awkward he sounded.

"You haven't done this in a while, have you?" you questioned, trying to ease the tension.

"Is it that obvious?" he laughed, the rigidness in his shoulder slightly lessening.

"Maybe just a little" you laughed with him.

"I'm just not used to women showing interest in me first. It's always Casey or Severide or anybody else that gets the girls. It's never me" he explained, which made you feel a little sad for him.

Otis was nothing short of hot and extremely handsome, you couldn't understand why women wouldn't approach him.

"Well, if you're asking me, you're way hotter than everyone else in this firehouse" you leaned in and whispered in his ear before walking away.

You heard Otis inhale a deep breath behind you, making you smile.

You had a feeling you were going to enjoy life at 51.

i saw someone on twitter do listen and we don’t judge chicago fire edition and since i had so many i thought i’d make a list

1. severide should’ve been captain seasons ago and if derek was still showrunner he would’ve eventually made that happen. but since it’s andrea, she insists on ofi storylines even though canonically kelly prefers squad 3 over arson and she only writes ofi storylines bc she enjoys them herself for herself. but she doesn’t seek to take into consideration that most fans are tired of seeing kelly do ofi all the time

2. andrea is a good writer but a terrible showrunner. she doesn’t seem to think through all the storylines she plans out. damon and kelly? recycled and still didn’t live up to the potential it could’ve. carver and tory? extremely useless because carver didn’t learn anything. stellaride baby talk? still hasn’t been brought up past that first episode and it feels forgotten.

3. i just don’t see mouch as a lieutenant. and i think the only reason the writers chose to go this route for him is so he can replace stella when she gets pregnant

4. herrmann will inevitably pass the captains exam and become captain but it honestly feels rushed because we didn’t see him study one time. instead he got too many comedic storylines.

5. ritter should’ve gotten so much more screentime then he did. i’d rather see a healthy relationship like ritter and dwayne then carver and tory because their relationship was so pointless. the carver and tory storyline was extremely stupid and was really just a waste of time for carver and mikarver as a ship since we know they’ll end up getting back together

6. squad should have more solo rescue calls

7. writers aren’t executing storylines well this season and because of it, the episodes feel extremely filler

8. brett/stella/foster was the best female trio we got because it felt like all three were actually friends. sometimes stella feels left out of the trios because she’s the only firefighter whereas the other two are always medics. but stella and foster felt like they had a genuine friendship despite the fact that they were a firefighter and medic duo.

9. kelly NEEDS more interactions outside of stella and pascal. herrmann and cruz are literally right there yet the writers won’t let them have scenes together and it’s frustrating. i’d also love to see kelly with violet because my headcannon is that they’re siblings

When It’s Too Much

Paring: Matt Casey x Kelly Severide

Summary: just husband fluff I could imagine something like this happening after Otis’ death when Casey got grilled for safety at the mattress factory fire.

Kelly Severide stood at the entrance of their office, his eyes falling on Matt Casey, who was sitting in the corner, his hands moving rhythmically. Kelly’s chest tightened as he watched the familiar stimming motions. He knew that look, the tension in Matt’s shoulders, and the way he seemed lost in his own world.

“You’re overwhelmed, aren’t you?” Kelly asked gently, his voice soft.

Matt glanced up, his expression guarded. “No, I’m okay,” he said, his fingers still moving. “Just thinking.”

Kelly knew better. Without another word, he crossed the room, taking Matt’s hand and guiding him to the couch. He sat down next to him, pulling Matt into his arms and engulfing him in a deep pressure hug. “You don’t need to put up a front with me, Bug. It’s okay,” he whispered, his voice calm and steady.

Matt hesitated for a moment, but then he let himself relax into Kelly’s embrace, the weight of his husband’s arms around him providing an anchor. His hand reached up, finding Kelly’s necklace, the familiar cool metal between his fingers. Stimming with it, he felt a small sense of relief, the comfort of routine helping him settle.

Kelly held him tighter, rubbing soothing circles on his back. “Just breathe. I’ve got you.”

Matt’s eyes closed, his breathing beginning to sync with Kelly’s. The world felt less overwhelming when Kelly was there, grounding him. “You always know what I need,” Matt murmured, his voice barely audible.

Kelly smiled softly, pressing a kiss to Matt’s temple. “Of course I do. You don’t have to pretend with me.”

Matt nodded, continuing to stim with the necklace, finding comfort in Kelly’s presence. “Thank you,” he whispered, grateful for the support he knew he could always count on.

“Always, Bug,” Kelly replied. “I’m here for you, no matter what.”

Okay, I have an idea. Gotta admit, first, I haven't watched most of Chicago PD (or Med but that's not relevant here. I've seen all of Fire). I was already in love with the Halsteads and now I've fallen in love with Mouse as a character. I also fully blame @kitweewoos and @gregorygerwitz for that. And I'm not sure if y'all's hc of Mouse's parents being rich and having disowned him is just a hc or somewhat implied in canon, but it's fully canon in my brain.

Alright. My idea. When Mouse starts to get restless being part of the unit, his initial thought is still reenlisting because that's familiar. And Voight tightening the fucking leash just totally reconfirms the need to get out. But then for some reason or another. (maybe Moustead happens and he can't bring himself to leave Jay even if he has to leave the unit. Maybe he gets to talking to Severide or Hermann or any of our 51 firefighters at Molly's.)

He starts looking into the CFD. He would still need his record cleared. But even if Platt had had hesitation, uh clearing his record so he can join the fire academy? *(calls Mouch)* Babe, I got you a veteran to join the cfd! He already comes with a nickname!

And so Mouse signs up for the next like available opening in the academy. And with a sus amount of luck *(side eyes Sargeant Platt)*, his number's called the same year. He's hopeful. The lack of gunfire is a relief as much as a bummer, but it's not a deterrent. And he isn't 100% sure how he'll do if he gets too close to explosion or gets a serious injury, but he'd have that same uncertainty overseas, just extra likely. And, of course, Jay is thrilled. Voight isn't, but he also isn't acting as much like a toddler because he has to respect the CFD. But Jay's thrilled that Mouse isn't trying to put himself through That™️ again. He feels guilty for a bit when he thinks maybe Mouse dropped the reenlisting idea just to placate him, but Mouse tells him it was just his first idea.

So Mouse goes through the fire academy, fucking excels. The soldier-like bits are like coming home. This he knows. This he can do. Sure, he might need to fill his free time with stuff to use his tech skills so boredom never leads him to hack the wrong shit while tipsy, but he would've done that anyway. He's not even opposed to helping out the unit, but only when they actually just can't figure it out themselves.

Fresh out of the academy, he obviously becomes a candidate at Firehouse 51. Do they need one right now? Don't care. They're getting Mouse. They need a new stray, and he needs a bigger family than just Jay and Will via Jay. Okay, I just checked the timeline, and Mouse's last CPD episode was conveniently at the same time as Jimmy Borelli's uhhh incident 🔥🫠 in October 2016. So, 51 does, in fact, need a candidate. 🫢😅

Humor in the tags. But seriously. Mouse can't decide if he absolutely hates them trying to include him in stuff (because past experiences say this is a lie and they wanna lure him into a false sense of security before being shit, despite the fact they've never individually given him bad vibes before) or desperately wants to do good to feel like he deserves them.

This part specifically applies to the Gerwitz-family-being-rich hc: It doesn't take the house long to piece together Gerwitz, and that Mouse isn't involved in his parents' lives. But you know Otis. Otis is Otis. Mouse is a candidate. So naturally, he's gonna joke about it. Mouse is fine at first, just acts like he didn't hear him or just glares or walks away, and everyone else has the decency not to laugh if it's the latter two reactions. Otis continues. Until one day, he jokingly implies nepotism. Mouse stops him in the locker room. "Listen, funny guy. I get this. The hazing is part of the job. It's fine. And you have plenty of material to work with. You wanna joke about my service, my addiction, working for the intelligence unit, my friendship with Jay? I don't care. But you make another crack about nepotism like my parents gave a single fuck about me after I wasn't their perfect little socialite? Like I wasn't fully disowned and cut off? That's a fight you won't win, Zvonecek." And his pronunciation of Otis' last name being perfect is oddly the sticking point for him. Otis is a bit butt hurt for a few days, but accepts the honesty and threat as good enough reason to back off on that topic.

“You look happier.” You confessed, walking up to Kelly before taking a seat next to him at the bar. You knew that the music playing in the background was not loud enough to hide the sadness in your voice. He knew you like the back of his own hand, so you couldn't help but feel a little ashamed by the comment you just made.

"That's because I am." He flashed you a half smile. "I am happier." You couldn't say it didn't hurt you a bit when he confirmed that. You met his smile and stared at him for a while, rearranging the thoughts in your head. You wished it was you. You wished you were the girl that just walked out of the aisle with her arm looped around Kelly's.

"I'm happy for you. Really, I am." You nodded your head, gently squeezing his arm. "I am sorry that things didn't work out between us. But…seeing you here with that big smile on your face made my heart fill with joy. I always wanted you to be happy, Kelly. Even if that means I have to see you getting married to someone else."

Kelly stared at you for a while, not knowing what to say. He could see you were telling him the truth, you really were happy for him, but the look in your eyes told him something else. He could see right through you. You were hurting.

“I heard you’re leaving 51.” He changed the subject, taking a sip from his drink as he looked away. Deep down there was this odd feeling as if he was suddenly doubting the decision he made just an hour ago. He felt that if he kept looking into your eyes for too long he might regret getting married to the person that could've been you. Sometimes he looks at you and asks himself where did it all go wrong.

“Yeah, I'm leaving 51.” You quickly nodded your head, whipping off the tears that were forming in your eyes. “I need a fresh start, you know? I think spending some time away from Chicago might do some good.”

“Away from Chicago or away from me?” Kelly mumbled, his question felt more like a statement. Before you could answer, he shook his head and flashed you a smile. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. I think you should do whatever makes you feel better. If staying away from Chicago for a while is the solution, then go for it. I’ll be here for you when you come back.” He gently squeezed your shoulder as his own eyes started to water.

You nodded your head and pressed your lips together, holding back a sob. There was no point in holding back the tears, they were already running down your face as you quietly stood up and grabbed your purse.

Looking back at the party, you saw all of your friends smiling and having fun. Herrmann saw you standing there and quickly made his way toward you, noticing the fresh tears in your eyes. Without saying a word, he grabbed you by the hand and dragged you to the center of the room where all of your friends were drinking and dancing. Everyone from 51 was there, having the time of their life. They would hate you for not saying goodbye.
