There was nothing that could be done to fix her.
And she was ... she was ...
A whimpering noise came out of her, lips trembling so hard she had to clamp down to keep the sound inside.
But the sound was in her throat and her lungs and her mouth, and when she took a breath, it cracked out. Once she heard it, everything came spilling into the world, until her body ached with the force of it.
She vaguely felt the light shifting on the lake.
Vaguely felt the sighing wind, warm as it brushed against her damp cheeks. And heard, so soft it was as if she dreamed it, a woman's voice whispering, Why are you crying, Fireheart?
It had been ten years--ten long years since she had heard her mother's voice. But she heard it then over the force of her weeping, as clear as if she knelt beside her. Fireheart--why do you cry?
"Because I am lost," she whispered onto the earth. "And I do not know the way."
It was what she had never been able to tell Nehemia--that for ten years, she had been unsure how to find the way home, because there was no home left.
Storm winds and ice crackled against her skin before she registered Rowan sitting down beside her, legs out, palms braced behind him in the moss. She raised her head, but didn't bother to wipe her face as she stared across the glittering lake.
"You want to talk about it?" he asked.
"No." Swallowing a few times, she yanked a handkerchief from her pocket and blew her nose, her head clearing with each breath.
They sat in silence, no sound but the quiet lapping of the lake on the mossy bank and the wind in the leaves. Then-- "Good. Because we're going."
Bastard. She called him as much, and then asked, "Going where?" He smiled grimly. "I think l've started to figure you out, Aelin Galathynius."

Fireheart: "Oh no! We're all doomed by the narrative!" Maybe you are. I'm the narrative's favorite.

Seriously, I don't need anything from a man... Actually, maybe give me some money. I don't need money from a man; I've got my own, but I want money from a man.

Aelin knows she is talented. Aelin knows she is beautiful. Aelin knows she is smart. Aelin knows she can endure. Aelin knows how much she values art, loyalty and friendship.
But she also knew, she was the sacrifice for the world.
If only I had met a character like her as a teen. Maybe I’d have cared less..

Don't mind me, just crying cause I'm re-browsing through the books & realized in Heir of Fire when Aelin/Celaena says:
"Because I am lost," she whispered onto the earth. "And I do not know the way."
It was what she had never been able to tell Nehemia--that for ten years, she had been unsure how to find the way home, because there was no home left.
Her mother does not reply. That decades silent voice, calling her “Fireheart” asking why? Why does she cry? Suddenly just… stops?.. as Rowan enters.
Right after those words, Rowan enters.
Rowan, who calls her Fireheart (same as her mothers voice did when it began speaking to her).
Rowan, whose eyes are pine green, whose hair is silver; same as Terrasen (her homes) colors.
Storm winds and ice crackled against her skin before she registered Rowan sitting down beside her, legs out, palms braced behind him in the moss.
Rowan, who smells like snow; the very smell she recognizes as home.
She raised her head, but didn't bother to wipe her face as she stared across the glittering lake.
Rowan, who she immediately recognizes, who she knows without sight or sound (much like the voice); who she finds in the dark, like a star (a constellation) a compass (like the Lord of the North that always points home) & one that she recognizes just as easily, knowing where to find it in the sky even beyond her blurred tears.
Rowan, who is the embodiment of her home; even then. Soon to be in the Queen of Shadows days (before he even reaches her) she’s reaching for him in the night. And as called in Kingdom of Ash when she is “safe”, when she is finally “home”; in Terrasen or not. Her person that is described as “her way back to the light”… so she is no longer lost. — No, voice answered, because Rowan was the answer.

I just finished rereading the TOG series and like. there are so many thoughts and emotions spinning around my mind that I can't express properly, like how will I ever explain that optimistic part of myself I saw in aelin, or the longing for a purpose or cause to kill myself for like lysandra. how will I convey that sense of frustration for my own inabilities like what aelin felt when she could do nothing but wait for the dam to break and flood the entire valley. how can I talk about love when there are couples like elide and lorcan that exist in the world today. how will I ever admit to that small part of me tucked into a pocket for the stand against fears, which tells me "my name is sam cortland and I will not be afraid," or the warning in the lavender-scented soap to never be selfish or unsure with the people you truly love. tog truly taught me something a lot of other books didn't: that the journey mattered more than the ending. it mattered so much more that they managed to find their mates rather than find the happy ending. it mattered so much more that they found a new family, another something worth fighting for. it mattered the most that all the journeys and experiences they went through still gave them courage and strength and willingness to fight for what they believed was right, and I'll always remember this book for its characters that followed their heart, and sometimes died chasing after the stars.
