Gaz was a trouble maker. Him, Ghost, Price. And Soap were the troublemakers of the school. You wouldn't want to get in there way. It wouldn't be pretty. People call the 141. Nobody known how they got that nickname. They just did.

Price, or his acsual name John is the leader, being the oldest of them all. He's the ring leader and his older sister laswell (real name kate), always helps them get out of trouble.

Ghost, or Simon, is the most violent of all of them. He doesn't usualy 'caus trouble unless you piss him of enough. With usualy ends with the poor person having a couple broken bones. And he always wears a facemask in school with a skull on it, weirdly enough.

Soap, or Johnny is the youngest and most caotic of them all. He is the one who comes up with the 'pranks' and the poor person who's going to get 'prankt'. He's also just barely the shortist of them all (Gaz being two inches taller then him). He's also in the same year as Gaz.

And lastly, the Gaz himself. Or his real name Kyle. He is the jock pretty boy of the group. All the girls are swooning over him. He is the captain of the basketball team, and a fine ass locking man. That doesn't mean he's smart- he is falling most classes (Soap is too, but thats more obvius) sinds he doesn't care to studie. Even with all these girls swooning over him, he has rarely dated somebody. He's not really a player.

And then there is you. Your the new foreign exchange student. With cripaling social anxiety. And you just transferred for there school. Your luckly enough to fall into the background until your first lesson. Maths. Not the best first start, but it could of been worse. And then the teacher makes you introduse yourself infornt of the class. Amazing. You reluctenly and quickly Introduce yourself. You were placed next to a guy name Kyle (sinds the teacher must hate you) and the lesson starts.

But the thing you didn't know is that Gaz fell inlove with you at first sight. Your accent. Your hair. Your eyes. Everything. He was smittend. And know he was sitting right next to you. All focus is out of the window for him. He is even trying to focus of whatever that boring teacher is saying. Just. you.

Eventualy we get asignments handed out that he (the teacher) wants us ti finnish THIS lesson. What a mennis. So you focus all your attention of finnishing this asignments sinds ofc your not going to get in trouble on your first day. Minutes after the asignment is handed out you feel a tap on your shoulder. It's your desk partner, Kyle

"Could you help me with this?"

he asks you pointing to a question. You already had this subject at your previos school so this is light work. You start to exsplain the subject with leads into a convo.

When you agree to exsplain the subject and the question to Gaz he is astatic, listening to your every word. As you dumb down the subject exsplaining it with ease. With somehow makes him acsualy understand it. But he uses this as a opertunity to start a acsual convo with you to learn more about you. Like what country you come from, what your natie language is (he'd 100% try and learn or understand it if it isn't english) and what you like

As he hears you rant about things you like and your home country, he can't help but think that you would be perfect victim of one of Soap's 'pranks'. But he wouldn't allow that. But he couldn't let them know that he is head over heels for the new weird foreign kid. But the fact that you help and exsplaind maths to him. He could use the exscuse that you are tutoring him. But no matter what. Your not gonna get bullied by his boys. He won't allow that.

Old art #26: More KnB OCs

I reposted some of my girl OCs with more description some time ago, so here are a couple of other characters too who I like to give attention.

Here's Bailey, who still lacks a surname. They were born because I remembered I had made some random sidenote about Kagami's old middle school crush from America, and at some point I realised it would serve the plot well to turn that thought into an actual character. (Like about 600 000 words afterwards.) Not the least because I do like to give people non-basketball related friends. (My fic series isn't called The Other Things for nothing.)

Bailey has existed in the background for longer than I've actually had a chance to write them. It was relevant that they would naturally seem like the kind of person Kagami would get attached to, so I wanted Bailey to have some traits that resemble Kuroko and some that resemble Himuro, but in a way that it wouldn't be obvious exactly how. That was just the general air I wanted to give, and I didn't know much else about Bailey until I got to write them, and in that short while I discovered some more things, like that they want to study orthotics and they are agender.

They are easy-going, don't like to make things too complicated, and approach most things with a twinkle in their eye. They can be quite goofy but in a chill, introverted way: they don't so much express it with their face or body, but in things like funny stories and doodles. They don't have very intense feelings, but they are kind of jealous of people who do, because they would like to experience things like world-shattering hate towards someone, or falling madly and suddenly in love. It's like they are unable to be consumed by things, and it leaves them a little dissatisfied.

Then we have Sato Aki, who is a twin brother of Mika who was introduced in the other post. Aki was born to fill several things I wanted in the story. Most notably I wanted 1) Finnish characters, 2) someone who could bond with Kagami about living elsewhere a long time, 3) someone to succeed Izuki in making weird jokes, and 4) a trans guy in the team.

I always feel like I have to explain the name thing: Sato twins have goofy parents (Finnish dad and Japanese mom) who, at the time they were still under the assumption that they had twin girls, thought it would be so funny to give them Japanese girl names which are boy names in Finnish, and cause confusion in everyone. (They lived in Finland until the twins were 16.) So, growing up, Aki was thrilled, Mika not so much. Out of solidarity to his sister who grew up with the "wrong" kind of name for their entire lives, Aki was prepared to be the one to bear it once they moved to Japan. The surname is also not their mom's but their dad's name, and it means crop/harvest in Finnish. Conveniently, it's also a very common Japanese name. Yes, I really wanted a chance to toy with names because there are so many that Finnish and Japanese share, but mostly the connotations are entirely different.

Aki is very extroverted, sociable, likes to do things for the heck of it, and can be very ruthless about pushing people when he thinks they need it, for the better and worse. He's definitely a team player, but he has a very low tendency for co-dependency. Everyone has their weak spots of course, but in general he's very difficult to manipulate emotionally. Your drama is not his drama, in a healthy way. He's caring, but he knows where the line goes and doesn't get emotionally invested where he shouldn't. He's very verbally talented and a great debater. Doesn't necessarily come off as a nerd, but he's into video games and books with a lot of lore. When really pissed off, he can be surprisingly cold, even cruel, and he doesn't shy away from using violence when needed, but it's calculated, not an outburst. He's not one to easily lose control. However, the verbal thing takes him far and always comes before fists. He is very rational, but can be too quick to jump into conclusions about people because he relies on his own judgement so strongly.

I have more new guys at Seirin, but I haven't drawn them, and they aren't nearly as significant to the story, so for now my OC introductions end here.

Several of Sanoma's regional papers carry the same story (siirryt toiseen palveluun) on an increase in Covid hospitalisations in recent weeks.

In the HUS hospital region there were 63 Covid patients on Monday, with some 16 in Southwest Finland. There are more than twenty patients in intensive care with the disease.

Most of those hospitalised by the virus have pre-existing conditions, lung issues or remain unvaccinated, but Chief Physicians in different parts of the country say there is a clear increase in admissions during April.

The extent of infections in Finland is difficult to evaluate, as there is a lot less official testing than during the peak of the pandemic.

The HUS region says that around half its Covid patients are infected by new variants that are regarded as highly infectious.

Forest to protect

Iltalehti looks at (siirryt toiseen palveluun) a new report that suggests the government owns large tracts of commercial forest that would be valuable nature reserves if protected.

The report was produced by volunteers, funded by the Kone Foundation and supported by environmental NGOs.

It aimed to identify valuable forest in its natural state, as opposed to the plantation style of forest common on commercial land.

It found some 1,400 locations owned by the government where the report's authors say logging should be banned and conservation orders be set in place.

Greenpeace said in a press release that the report suggests state agencies have not been effective in mapping out natural forest on government-owned land.

Markkanen gets MIP award

Most Finnish media are reporting on another big day (siirryt toiseen palveluun) for the most famous conscript of Finland's 2023 cohort.

Finnish basketball star Lauri Markkanen had an early wake-up call at the Santahamina military base on Tuesday, getting up at 2am to receive his NBA Most Improved Player award via video link.

The moment was captured by the NBA on TNT show, which pushed out a Youtube clip (siirryt toiseen palveluun) immediately.

The Utah Jazz player has had a tremendous season in the NBA, recording an average of 25.6 points per game along with 8.6 rebounds.

It's a big step up from his previous NBA seasons at the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers, where he struggled to find a niche.

Roope

Roope is from Tampere, Finland. He’s 27. His parents played basketball (his mom is Very Tall) and he was a multi sport athlete growing up.

He spent some time in Florida working on his speed & learning English when he was 15. He played for Ilves in Liiga, going through their juniors program and then playing with their pro team as a teenager. He started to get attention at this point from the national team and NHL scouts. Everyone was like 'where did this kid come from?'

The Stars drafted him in 2015 (the McDavid draft). He was their second round pick, 49th overall- an absolute steal for Dallas.

At that point he switched to playing for HIFK (a different Liiga team), where he was eventually joined by future Stars teammate Miro Heiskanen.

In 2016 he won gold at world juniors with an absolutely stacked team Finland. We're talking Sebastian Aho, Mikko Rantanen, Patrik Laine and also Kasperi Kapanen and Jesse Puljujärvi and of course Roope. Click through for a Finnish article with baby pictures of all of them.

For the 2018-2017 season Roope came over to the US and played in the AHL. The next year he was playing in the NHL (same rookie season as Miro). The year after that he became Dallas's top line center and he has been ever since. His line (with Jason Robertson and Joe Pavelski) has been solid for the Stars.

As far as personality goes- He likes fashion and Finnish rap. He freely admits that he wasn't the best in school. He mostly hangs out with the other Finns on the stars- particularly Miro. The fans call them the Finnish Mafia (and they actually went as the Finnish Mafia for Halloween 2022). Back in 2016, he and Jesse Puljujärvi were dating a pair of twin sisters. He was very fun on instagram before he was famous- and even though most of the posts from that time period are deleted, his insta is still pretty good. Tyler Seguin compared him to Mitch Marner on a podcast (source for this incoming- gotta re listen to a bunch of podcasts to find the right one).

The other Finns call him hinee, non Finnish teammates call him Roop.

Wyatt

Wyatt Johnston is from Toronto. The stars drafted him 23rd over all in 2021. He stayed in the OHL (with the Spitfires) for one more year then made the team right out of training camp in 2022. Coach Pete DeBoer said he wanted to hide Wyatt in the trunk of his car so GM Jim Nill could not send him back down to juniors. Luckily it did not come to that- Wyatt was here to stay.

The coaching staff asked if the then 19 year old could live with veteran teammate Joe Pavelski (then 38) and his family. Joe thought they were asking him about rehoming a dog (also called Wyatt) but the confusion was soon cleared up and human Wyatt was welcomed with open arms. He continues to live with the Pavelskis his sophomore season.

Wyatt plays center (just like Roope). His entire rookie year and most of his sophomore season (as of time of writing) he's centered the third line with Captain Jamie Benn as a regular winger (and a rotating cast as their third). Lately (and only for a few games) Wyatt converted to wing to replace Joe Pavelski on the top line (Roope's line). Previous to that Roope and Wyatt were never really on the ice at the same time.

Last year- when the player of the game award was allegedly shot gunning a beer (can't find a source for this) - they gave him a personal pizza instead. His teammates seem to love him (and chirp him in equal measure). He's continued to excel over his sophomore season and it's been exciting to watch.

I don't know of a primer for them, I'm afraid! (I wish I did; primers are so useful, and I miss the days of their abundance.) I decided to write about them for the simple reason that the lovely @coffeehound91 commissioned me when I had commissions open in December (not something AO3 allows you to mention on their site due to their terms of service). I didn't know anything about the pairing myself when they suggested it, but I was excited to get to know some of the newer Stars, and I'm so glad I did! I mostly just read what was on AO3 for them and did a bit of googling. Possibly someone reading this has a suggestion for a good intro?
