Freya was nothing short of a surprise. Her parents, Diane and Paul, already had their hands full with Finn and Fletcher Knox. Having three under three was not going to be easy but Freya was here anyways.  She grew up on the shores of St. Pete Beach, spending her days running in the sand and jumping the waves. She'd flock after her brothers, organize her mother's store on the beach, and settle in her father's office as he taught classes. She'd remark that her childhood was pretty good. Her father loved her mother much like a romance movie. Kisses in the morning, flowers on his way home from work, dancing in the kitchen when they thought the kids went to bed. She compared them to a fairytale all the time. They taught Freya all she needed to know about love.

She didn't remember what it was like to be completely honest. Her peaceful condo on the beach that she'd retreated to became dull, lifeless. Her father searched for his wife in every woman in town, Fletcher threw himself into his studies, and Finn threw himself into buying baggies on street corners. Freya threw herself into trying to keep her family together.

Her father paraded his girlfriends around their condo, but there was nothing like watching him smile at someone and realizing it was half the smile he used to give your mother. Freya called it the sort of heartbreak that the movies couldn't even begin to describe.

When she turned sixteen, her father met Johannah. She gave Freya her first job, and her first taste of the wedding planning industry. She was just as associate, helping Johannah out at the various wedding, and she fell in love with it. The love in the air, feeling the warmth and comfort, watching two people smile at eachother like they were the only two in the room. It reignited the idea that loved lived in every corner of the world, and she saw the sort of love her parents had when she looked hard enough.

Finn bounced back and forth between rehab and home, and her father kept searching for his wife in flings.

She graduated from college, and continued to work for Johannah. She'd become a close confidant for Freya and was the first person to encourage Freya to leave, and find something new. Her mother would want that for her, Jo had pointed out. Jo had a friend in New York City who offered to hire Freya. And, well, Freya didn't want to be stuck in St. Petersburg forever so she told her father and her brothers when Fletcher was home for Christmas, and tried to ignore how fake her father's smile was at her.

Finn joked that the glue was moving. Freya wanted to be sick. Freya packed up her boxes, her cat Toad, and moved to New York City with promises to call often and to have her family visit her. all the best movies start this way, right?

GH Catch Up Part Two:

- Love Tracy's hating ass but I have to take serious offense to the "bridge and tunnel" shade as a proud Brooklyn girl. So I have to be Team Lois and frankly that's rich coming from a lady still crying over that white trash devil Luke.

- Don't care about Spinnelli's beef with Cody anymore. Don't understand why Sasha and Cody aren't making out already at bare minimum.

- Anything involving this surrogacy psa storyline is becoming white noise for me. I'm just mourning when the Davis girls used to be fun. The closest we got to classic Davis girls energy was the Sam and Alexis banter over bungee jumping.

- Monica finally back in the Quartermaine mansion (Alan gave it to her) warmed my cold heart negl. Monica and Tracy throwing shade at each other is the most Quartermaine energy in that household all year. Glad I skipped the Finn nonsense so this was my first dose of Monica being back on the screen ❤️.

- Everyone blackmailing Nina is so convoluted and stupid but I'm glad Ned, as the superior Quartermaine, one upped stupid Michael and got what he wanted. Michael is one of the dumbest characters on the canvas right now and it's exacerbated by the fact that he really believes he's a "shark".

- I only watched this ep for Ava and I'm as annoyed as her that she's not allowed to have any mess anymore without Sonny somehow getting involved. They're defanging my girl to make her one of those women who relies on Sonny for "protection" and I am not pleased with this development at all. I'm not interested in losing Ava as her own person just because her and Sonny are fun in scenes together.

- As much as I hate them using Ava as a mouthpiece for Michael's pov of all people (🤢), I kinda get where she's coming from in her scene with Nina. Ava has come to accept that she's earned the enemies she has and leaves it at that. She's not waiting around for them to like her one day the way Nina is. If they stop hating her, cool, if they continue to hate her, also cool. Ngl I kinda wish Nina would adopt this energy so we could move on from her constantly groveling to these people.

- Felicia putting everything together on the stupid Cody/Mac secret is exactly why she needs to go back to her PI work and they need to dead whatever that hospital story is supposed to be.

Her son's got captured by the British and she went single handedly to get them back, having a conversation with the queen at the time and won them back!!! Led a hardy seafaring life and bet many men in duels, a force of nature against the British!!

Fionn Mac Cumhaill (Irish):

He's the leader of the Fianna, a troop of roving warriors that slumber in a cave until they are needed most. He also has a magic thumb. He and an old man were fishing for the salmon of wisdom and he accidentally touched its burning flesh. He can only access the wisdom when he sucks on his thumb and recites some incantation. For all of his coolness (get it?) he's also a dumbass. Fionn isn't his real name, it's just a nickname he was given when his hair turned prematurely white (or it could be interpreted as calling someone 'blondie' which is a little funnier). He's distantly decended from Núadu, king of the gods. He was raised in the woods and no-one knew who he was. His wife was turned into a deer not once, but twice. His son is a poet and also a fierce warrior.

3. What is your favorite genre?

Traditionally fantasy. It is my staple genre! Lately tho I've been wanting to try out other stuff and not veering as much toward it. The one I seem to enjoy the most right now is historical fiction, particularly if it has some like folk lore/magical realism/mythology events. Essentially historical fiction/fantasy 😆 The Witch's Heart, Lavinia, Circe, She Who Became the Sun, and even Finn Mac Cool come to mind!

Nothing especially stands out. I liked elementary/middle school required reading and a lot of my college required reading, but high school was a bit more of a dud. I do think I remember enjoying Antigone tho I recall very little of the story. I remember having to read the Great Gatsby and The Oxbow Incident and absolutely not enjoying those.

Have you ever given the Fenian Cycle a look over? A lot of it kicks off with the theft of a cow. You might dip your toe in (or your thumb, as it were)! Finn Mac Cool (by some reckonings) could be roughly contemporary to Arthur, as well, which is a funny thought. Imagine them battling one another... It's a bit more savage than a lot of Arthurian stuff.

With the importance of Cattle as a measure of wealth in Celtic, and especially, Welsh society, can you imagine the Knights of the Round Table being obsessed with cows? Raiding for cows, exchanging cows, questing for cows, King Arthur and Morgan le Fay showing how powerful and influential they are by having a whole load of cows at their strongholds, etc.
