it's about...longevity? stability? it's about natsume believing he'll be somewhere long enough to plant flowers and see them bloom. it's about him taking touko seriously when she asks him to tell her what flowers he wants to plant. it's about making something with his own hands, building a future with the fujiwaras. it's about him repairing a rundown home for someone else, restoring it because it's beloved to them, because it's the home of someone they love. it's about him seeing touko's joy and thinking about the youkai saying we'd like to look upon her happy face forever. it's about the box garden making him think of the fujiwaras' garden and his parents' garden, about the flowers being both the memory of flowers that bloomed there before, and the flowers that he and the youkai planted earlier that day. it's about him waking up in both worlds with sensei. it's about touko finding the petal in his hair. it's about him feeling how he falls short and the youkai saying, but you have such gentle hands...

Percy seeing kids go to war against the same monster he fought 1000s of years later. He sees his friends in these kids.

Percy realizing that this is a cycle. Since the beginning its always been kids going to war for their parents. It probably will be that in the end.

I've finally done what I inevitably do for nearly every fandom i get into: I've made a deranged spreadsheet tracking some linguistic element in a piece of media! this time it's tracking the usage of swears in Scum Villain. if you're curious, here's the full spreadsheet, but I'll write up my findings here

some notes on my methods!

I differentiated between internal and external use. external use is pretty straight forward, that's just dialogue said out loud. for internal use, that's when it's used in the narration. obviously, this is skewed towards Shen Qingqiu as our primary POV character, but occasionally the narration dips its toes into other characters' perspectives, so I kept that in mind and assigned the usage to whoever seemed most relevant in that snippet of narration. also, in the case of the transmigrators, I also counted speech directed at the System as internal because they're less likely to self-censor when talking to the System because no one else can hear them

this was done by searching for specific words and their variants in online copies of the official English translations of all four books. there are a bajillion different swears in the English language, but I tried to focus on the most common/most likely to be used. also, since I was searching for the words manually, there are going to be some that are missed because they're written out abnormally, like lengthening the word for emphasis (eg. fuuuuuuuuuck) or censoring it (eg. b- [BLEEP]). side note, i don't know why the hell SQQ ever censors anything since he seems pretty comfortable thinking some pretty foul things without censoring them, but whatever.

now for the results! data breakdown under the cut

in total, of the swears I searched for, there's 286 swears across all four books. book two is the most vulgar, with 82 swears, and book three is the least, with only 52. book two also has the most variety (14 different words) and book three has the least variety (only 10 different words)

perhaps unsurprisingly, out of these 286 swears, SQQ's internal narration is responsible for 200 of them. his most used swear is "fuck" which appears 106 times in total and 86 times from SQQ (internal) specifically

following SQQ (internal) in the rankings is Shang Qinghua (internal) at 30 in total. his most used swear is "fucking." after that is SQH's external dialogue (14 swears, most used is "fuck") and then SQQ's external dialogue (11 swears, tied between "fuck" and "fucking"). considering how much he swears in his head, I think SQQ is exhibiting a surprising amount of restraint when it comes to swearing out loud!

aside from the transmigrators, the most vulgar side character is, surprisingly, Shen Jiu! he gets two internal uses of "fuck" and two external swears ("shitty" and "damn"). these are all from when he was younger, so perhaps this is a habit he broke when he got older and had to present a particular image as peak lord

the only other side characters who swear are Sha Hualing (internal), Bingge (internal), Linguang-Jun (external), Qiu Jianluo (external), and Ming Fan. all of them only swear once except Ming Fan, who gets two (one internal and one external)

of the 18 swear words I tracked, SQQ used all of them except one. the only person to say "bitch" is Ming Fan, out loud. #MingFanMisogynyMoments

SQQ does, however, have a monopoly on motherfuck/motherfucker/motherfucking, goddammit, dumbass, dick, and pussy. damn dude, you kiss your disciple with that mouth?

pre-transmigration, Shen Yuan swore three times in one forum post, those being "fucking," "damn," and "ass."

most usages of "ass" are for emphatic purposes, like "Relax, my ass!" Both SQQ and SQH really enjoy this construction lol

despite volume two being the most vulgar, it has the least variety of speakers! SQQ is responsible for all but two of those swears, the other two belonging to Sha Hualing and Ming Fan. volume four has the most variety, likely because it just involves a wide variety of characters

and that's my data roundup! go forth and use this as a resource when choosing how to insert swearing into your SVSSS dialogue <3

"You don't know that!" He bit his lips, but mirth danced in his eyes still, no matter how he tried to hide it. "Russo still thinks he is going to heroically consign himself to a political marriage, one of these days."

"As if your father would ever stand for that." Because Fëanáro had watched all through his and Curufinwë's politically unsuitable and all-around problematic courtships with the sort of enthusiasm that only a believer of One True Love could muster.

"It's not even true!" Makalaurë cried out theatrically, ignoring her with practiced ease. "There have been several Finwës since Russo! The time for 'fourth' has long passed."

Nenwë nodded sagely. "You and your brothers."

"You're missing a few."

She snapped her fingers. "That's right, your nephew! Curufinwë the Third, how could I forget him? Your brother's naming skills are truly remarkable, I must say."

Makalaurë lost his battle against laughter once again. He swept her up in his arms and kissed her brow, her cheek, her mouth. "You," he said, emphatically, "are not naming our future son Cantëafinwë. I refuse. We will have only daughters, if that's what it takes. I'll make sure of it."

"If it was that easy, you wouldn't have five younger brothers." Then she shrieked as Makalaurë calmly hoisted her up and tossed her into the sea, and for a while there were no more words exchanged.

Later on, when they had calmed down and wrung water out of their ruined clothes, they sat on the shore and watched as the light of the Trees scattered on the waves. Nenwë turned to her husband, a rare, sweet smile slowly spreading on her lips, and said–

"I will name our eldest daughter Cantëafinwë if I have to."

I'm incredibly busy this month so it had to be an incredibly short one-shot- do not expect me to publish any writing again(listen to this bozo not being confident in their own writing😒)..

Horror pushed Killer onto the bed, Killer's legs wrapping around the biggers torso as they passionately made out. Horror then pulled away, a string of saliva left behind. He paused, staring at Killers expression. Uncertainty.

"Killer?," He called out, snapping the other out of his trance. He tilted his head with slight concern. "You doin' fine?,"

"What, 's there a problem?," Killer's grin sharpened and he almost looked offended. Horror sighed, leaning back to give Killer some more space.

"If ya don't wanna do this you can just tell me ya know," He reassured. Killer's face just scrunched up as he looked another direction. Horror narrowed his bonebrows in return.

"Killer, look at me," He caressed Killer's cheek. "Tell me what's wrong."

Killer stayed silent for a moment before his face softened, an almost sad look on his face. "I'm sorry," His everlasting grin turned into a frown.

"I don't- I know I make a lot of dirty jokes and act like a fucking whore, but the thought of actually putting something in the hole makes me incredibly uncomfortable. It- disgusts me?? I'm not opposed to getting heated but then- I- uhh..." He stopped, staring up at Horror with wide eyes. And there was a moment of silence.

"Why didn't you tell me sooner??," Horror raised a brow. "Because that ruins the joke!" Killer exclaimed quickly as a way to defend himself.

"That's a terrible reason... Well, if you don't want to we can stop,"

"No, no, just- I just don't want to.... god, this is complicated.." Killer buried his face in his own hands. "Take your time," Horror lightly pet Killer.

"I want to continue.... just.. no actual action, ya get what I mean? ....I want to move on from this conversation.." Killer looked away again. "Of course." Horror nodded before delving into Killer's mouth again. In return, Killer made a delightful moan as they continued.
