'Bad Teacher' - A Wannabe 'Bad Santa'
ā€œBad Teacherā€ so desperately wants to be a devious black comedy like ā€œBad Santaā€ but for teachers. Depressingly, it doesn’t even come close to reaching such devilishly hilarious heights. Despite some good laughs sprinkled throughout, this movie is a surprising bore with few surprises up its sleeve. You can see things coming long in advance, and the punch line deflates very quickly. Cameron Diaz,…

Y’all are aware we probably have to keep it in the top 10 overall into at least the 19th right? One business day after initial intended marketed advertised release supposedly. Then we should be good unless Mark says otherwise.

Sometimes I leave this site to see what is out there, the only other social media I am on is YouTube and occasionally I will stumble upon a piece of twilight related content there.
Now when I am out in the wild like that I try to be as chill and normal about twilight as possible and one thing that always baffles me about finding twilight content out there is how little mention of the Quileute tribe there is.
Be it reading vlogs of the books, movie commentaries, memorabilia collections etc. unless it's like an in depth video essay on why twilight is problematic barely anyone takes care to mention the tribe, acknowledge the harm twilight has done to them or remind viewers that there are opportunities to donate. It baffles me.
I don't know how much of a bubble thing this is, but if I go on tumblr all the twilight blogs I follow will regularly mention the Quileutes, they will reblog donation links and own voices accounts of the damage twilight has done to the community. I regularly see posts breaking down reproduced stereotypes of Native Americans in twilight and so on.
That is what being a fan of twilight should entail in my opinion and when I spend a lot of time in this small corner of the internet it makes me feel like this fandom has grown quite a lot. It's sometimes feels defeating going out there and seeing videos with tens of thousands of views that never utilize that platform to help support a community that is in large parts responsible for the success of twilight in the first place.
I don't know where I am going with this. Donate to the Quileute tribe and don't encourage people to give money to Stephenie Meyer anymore.

personally I think the best thing that the joker sequel did for me was expose the exact degree to which how much of internet/public criticism is not based on genuine analysis of the content using social and cultural resources to support an actual argument but is actually adult children whining because someone took their batman toys and put them up on a high shelf for once and they, as a consumer, feel like they're entitled to throw a tantrum about it
#one of those 'if everyone's a critic no one will be' kind of situations#like every day I have to see 30 youtube thumbnails saying 'joker 2 bad' and then they say 'this scene was bad' and the only evidence they#give for their reasoning on it is 'it didn't make sense' and I want to turn into my english teacher and give reading comprehension question#like. if something doesn't make sense then why not examine the deeper reasoning that led you to that conclusion? why not then also entertai#the circumstances in which the situation would be plausible? you know? find some actual answers? but that is too much to ask of people#truly the gulf between a really well educated opinion analyzing the actual content rather than knee-jerking and saying 'I don't like it' is#far and fucking wide. I literally have only found ONE video essay that actually does a decent job talking about theme and the cohesion#between the two movies about the gulf between reality and fantasy which I thought was REALLY a good and thoughtful take on it all#but the rest of them are just like 'OOOOH MOVIE BAD MOVIE SO BAD'#like. you can't just say that!!! I know it's the internet and it's edged your ego enough to make you think you can#but some of us would like you to unpack your actual reasoning. but you do not have the capacity for that. clearly#go back to ninth grade for god's sake like this is a really basic skill for actually analyzing narrative and film and you do not have it#joker#folie a deux#joker 2#arthur fleck

Did you know that Sting inspired the character John Constantine?!
Actually I think it's the other way around. That Sting character is a shameless recolor.

So when I was a child, I got Ranger Rick every month. It's a magazine for children designed to teach them about animals and nature. I was a tiny little nerd living in a heavily wooded area back then, so I loved it!
Tumblr media
I had this exact issue lmao.
The mascot of this magazine was the eponymous Ranger Rick, a cute raccoon forest ranger who taught kids about nature.
This is what he looked like when I was a kid getting the magazine in the mid-90s.
Tumblr media
Look how friendly and soft and dashing he looked!!! Ultimate nature educator for kids!
He got a redesign when I was around ten, which was a little odd, but I was getting a little too old for RR at that point, so I guess I didn't mind that much. That was about when we left Ohio, so I wasn't getting as much time in nature anyway.
Tumblr media
Sorry that he's grainy, there are not that many images of early 2000s Rick on the internet. I think they were trying to make him feel more relatable, like he was a child instead of a ranger teaching them. Or at least a more casual teacher...? Not sure how well that worked.
I remember thinking the redesign was kind of pointless as a child, but this was around when my mom lost her job and we didn't have the money for things like magazine subscriptions anymore. I stopped getting the magazine and the design became kind of a moot point, but I still had beloved memories of Ranger Rick.
So imagine my surprise when I see a recent image of Rick and... oh.
Tumblr media
Oh no... Look how they've massacred my boy... Look at those soulless eyes... That skinny little body that does not look huggable at all... Like I guess I'm glad that he's gone back to being more obviously a ranger, but like... the Flash of it all...
But. But I guess I should be grateful for what we have. He might be kind of soulless now, but look what they tried to launch a few years ago:

Reminder for if you ever see a celebrity in person: please treat them like a human being
I’m at Sundance 2024 rn and the other day I walked past a VERY visibly flustered Dylan O’ Brien being absolutely swarmed by fans trying to take selfies with him as he was trying to walk down the street.
Obviously I’m not trying to put words in anyone’s mouths or speak for all celebrities, just as a general rule, be fucking normal.

anna or lily going into a convent (and being in america) and carlo can use that as a reputation boost hhhhhhhh
#im sooooo rewriting carlo & his family. bc the existing ver irritates me endlessly u can't even imagine like my teeth r literally gritting#like im literally the n1 hater of the thing i wrote myself like genuinely#ā€œmy heart's in the highlandsā€ scene from la grande bellezza (this film & religious topic in it in general) haunts me#genuinely i dont want anna to go into a convent. girl youre so young dont do this. turning to God closer to old age is more common#*but it's so fitting for anna's character i have in my head hhhhhh#but they all are socialists (except for carlo ofc). so there's probably a complicated relationship with god#me when i cant help but make things even more complicated bc my brain works like a cancer#everyone go & listen my hearts in the highlands by arvo part right nowww#m2#i was thinking about the convent for months. just if ure interested#upd. ā€œare you really the strongest exorcist in all of europe?ā€* hhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH#+ for lily. when a saint is asked to talk about her life and she answers: ā€œyou can't talk about povertyā€ hhhhhhhhhh#*looked at la grande belleza's script. exact quote:#i apologize for earlier. there's one question i really want to ask you. are the rumors about you true?#that you were a truly great.. exorcist? // and then the cardinal says some kind of spell & closes the car window#hhhhhhhhhh. another scene that fucking haunts me#upd2. thought bout verro's bust that was destroyed 2 times by the mafia. thought bout anna. i can see her as a sculptor#she has very strong hands. its a pity that if shes in the usa bc have no idea bout american art schools. im more educated bout european art#and also idfk. maybe i do need to see her as a (fierce? but shes in the usa) socialist. you dont get it i need it
