I once got an incredibly annoying man to stop talking to me after telling him how I made my tea. Enjoy my ramblings.

I work festivals. On this occasion I was one of 2 artist liasons/production assistants, me and my boss. The festival was a local one, not big but it could hold its own, and we were lucky enough to have an actual building on site so we didn't have to shove artists into marquees.

Day 1 of the festival was a mess. Didn't get back to my tent until 2am, and my tent had flooded. I didn't sleep well, of at all. Me and my boss get in bright and early the next day...but so does our headliners production crew. They're making themselves breakfast in a campervan, so we leave them be as we have other artists arriving to get accredited. And then he comes in.

Who is about to be a pain in my ass. Me and my boss hadn't changed round the headliners dressing rooms yet, because they weren't due to arrive until 5pm....several hours after this point in time, plus there's only 2 of us and we now have 5 other artists to look after. Neil, the production manager, comes in and demands to see the dressing room. We tell him it's not done, he demands anyway. We tell him where it is.

I'm minding my business, doing my tasks getting riders ready for the next band arriving, and who comes back but Neil, telling me to come with him. I don't have the energy to tell him to wait his damn turn, so I do so. He starts handing things to me saying "that needs to go, this too, he doesn't like this, I don't want that", until he reaches the fucking sugar cubes from the day before.

He is irate about the sugar cubes.

"This needs to be changed for granulated sugar immediately"

"Sure, we'll get it sorted when we change the dressing room over. Don't worry, we've read the rider."

"Do you know WHY he doesn't like sugar cubes?"

*silence*

"Because you don't know how much sugar you're getting when you use them."

"I thought they were equivalent to a teaspoon. I mean they're all the same weight."

"How much sugar do you like in your tea?"

And this is where I get him. I'm sleep deprived, in no mood for his shenanigans, and so I reply truthfully

"Honestly, Neil. I just pour until it feels right in my heart."

"....right."

he avoided me like the plague after that, which I really enjoyed because he creeped me out to fuck. You are welcome.

So, I volunteered at download festival this year! Here are my highlights:

1. Seeing people I met last year. We were like one massive family last year, we looked after eachother, were on the same shift pattern, and went into the arena and village together etc. It was much the same this year, with the only difference being all of us on different shifts patterns. I missed the gang!!! Cant wait to see them a again!!

2. Seeing The Dark Room....by mistake. I didnt know it was going to be there, and happened to be in the den to see what was going on. I went mental when it came on and ran away from my friends so I could be at the front. 1000000/10, would lose my friends for again.

3. I caught my first crowdsurfers! Was it uncomfortable? Sure! Was I far too short to actually help hold any of them up? Absolutely! But I can now say I done it.

4. The bands Slay Duggee, Old Dirty Brasstards, Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes and wargasm. These were all bands I caught by mistake, not knowing who they were. I am now obsessed with FC&TR and I'm not sorry about it.

Now to be one of those people and have a bit of a moan. Here are my lowlights:

1. I worked in orange camp on the Wednesday from 5pm-1am. In that time the camp managers huts, and the air hubs, did not have power. This was a critical point because those huts are meant to provide hot water and emergency charging points for campers, mainly for food but also importantly so no one gets critcally I'll because of the cold nights. We were promised power on Wednesday night, and did not get it until Thursday afternoon. Personally, that is unacceptable.

2. The switch from woodchips to hay. I get you cant get rid of mud, mud is mud, but you put hay on top of an already slippy surface and you make the best ankle breaker ever. Hay is slippy by itself, but when the ground isnt solid beneath it its just....ow. Bring back the woodchips.

3. Code orange trashing the stage because they got their set cut, like, lads....babymetal is over here from JAPAN and they only got 3 songs, you didnt see them throwing the sound equipment. Pick your battle.

All in all I had a brilliant time! Despite the weather, I was a brilliant festival and it feels like home every time I go <3
