55 years ago today, January 4, 1969, the final new episode of Wacky Races aired. It is an American animated television series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions for Saturday mornings. The series features 11 different cars racing against each other in various road rallies throughout North America, with all of the drivers hoping to win the title of the "World's Wackiest Racer". The show was inspired by the 1965 comedy film The Great Race.
The cartoon had many regular characters, with 23 people and animals spread among the 11 race cars. Wacky Races ran Saturday mornings on CBS from September 14, 1968, to January 4, 1969, and in syndication from 1976 to 1982. Seventeen 20-minute episodes were produced, with each of them featuring two 10-minute segments.
The series spawned numerous spin-offs throughout the years featuring Dick Dastardly, the most similar in theme being "Fender Bender 500" in 1990.
In 2017, the series was remade as a reboot, airing on Boomerang. It aired only once on Cartoon Network on August 13, 2018.

Here's a little sneak peek at my next project, a light chaptered affair with a comedic tone similar to my ficlet A Weird Soup (aka no dignity left unimpinged). Working title The Unhinged AU, for reasons that will be explained later and also probably will be evident by the content 😂. It started as many of my projects have, as a plea to my friends for quick writing prompts that immediately took on a life of its own.
(shadowgast, excerpt ~500 words and rated G)
-
Essek’s fine shoes were not meant to be walked in for great distances, or at significant speed on anything but a red carpet or a smooth hardwood runway, but right now Essek was doing both. Tap, tap, went his heels on the pavement as he went as fast as he could without actually running. It was a “step aside, I’m on my way to a murder” kind of walk. Essek found it very effective for parting crowds.
Unfortunately, Essek was not actually on his way to a murder. He would have enjoyed that, perhaps, especially if the hypothetical victim — victims — were the gum-sucking, flash-mobbing, carrion-eating paparazzi that had somehow gotten wind of this intention to pick up lunch at Le Petit Veau. He didn’t even like the food there. He had just wanted a decent coff—
WHAM!
Essek’s unstoppable force abruptly met an immovable object, except it wasn’t immovable or nearly as poetic, because the ground was approaching fast and whoever he’d hit was going ass-over-teakettle over the decorative hedge bordering an outdoor seating area, shoes sweeping comically in the air. Essek’s last thought as the shoes went by before he really got acquainted with physics on his side of the green divide was: hm, good leather, very worn, but cared for.
“Shit!” Essek groaned and scrambled to his feet, his hip aching and hands stinging. His smartphone screen was cracked. He had half a mind to keep going — the harpies of discord were surely close behind him— except that if someone had gotten this on video, it would be hell for weeks. Well. More hell. He could see the newsblog headlines now: Supermodel Essek Thelyss Puts Innocent Man In The Hospital, Flees Scene (On Foot - He’s Just Like Us!) See What He’s Wearing And Where To Buy It [Here].
Thank all the gods and all the demons too that there weren’t any patrons except a tiny old man who hadn’t even looked up from his newspaper, but Essek was still acutely aware of passers-by who had paused at the spectacle, and he hurried to assess any possible casualties. “My apologies, are you alright?”
The immovable object of Essek’s demise turned out to be a tall, lanky man with ginger hair and a neatly trimmed beard, artful tattoo sleeves down to his wrists, and an apron that cheerfully announced him as an employee of The Sunrise Roast Café. Good! Essek could terrify him with the threat of a bad review if necessary.
“I think so,” the man said, getting to his feet and rubbing his tailbone. His accent was Zemnian. He was also much taller standing up. “Ach. Maybe a bruise.” He looked Essek over once, quickly, and then again, more slowly. Essek braced for the inevitable recognition, but there was no spark in the stranger’s gaze except for the kind of appreciation Essek found aimed his way all the time. “Are you? That was quite a fender-bender. I’m sorry, I didn’t see you.”

Boca Raton Auto Accident Guide: Claim Your Rights
Whether it's a minor fender bender or a devastating fatal accident that unfolded on the roads of Boca Raton or West Palm Beach today, the impact of any car accident can be profound.
Understanding the gravity of every situation, our dedicated team stands ready to provide the support and guidance you need. No matter the extent of the accident, we are here, available to listen, advise, and assist you through this challenging time.
Your call is not just a request for help; it's the first step towards securing your rights and finding a path to recovery.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IMMEDIATELY AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT IN BOCA RATON?
IMMEDIATE STEPS AFTER AN ACCIDENT
Ensure Safety: First, make sure everyone involved in the accident is safe. Move vehicles out of traffic if possible without compromising safety.
Call 911: Florida law requires you to report any car accident that results in injuries, death, or significant property damage to the police. When you call 911, they will dispatch local law enforcement and emergency medical services if needed. For accidents in Boca Raton, the responding agency will likely be the Boca Raton Police Department or the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, depending on the exact location of the accident.
REPORTING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT
Boca Raton Police Department (BRPD): If the accident occurs within Boca Raton city limits, BRPD will typically take the report. You can contact them directly for non-emergency situations at their non-emergency number 561-368-6201.
Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO): For accidents occurring in areas of Palm Beach County outside Boca Raton city limits, PBSO is the responsible agency. They also have a non-emergency contact number for reporting which is 561-688-3000.
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR REPORTING
Florida Statutes Section 316.066: Florida law mandates that any crash resulting in vehicle damage of $500 or more, injuries, or death must be reported to the local police department, sheriff, or Florida Highway Patrol. This report is known as a Florida Traffic Crash Report and is filed by the officer who investigates the scene.
Personal Injury Protection (PIP): Florida is a no-fault state, requiring all drivers to carry PIP insurance. Reporting your accident promptly is crucial for PIP claims, which cover medical bills and lost wages regardless of who was at fault.
Are You Entitled To PIP Benefits?
AFTER REPORTING THE ACCIDENT
Exchange Information: While waiting for law enforcement, exchange names, contact information, vehicle registration, and insurance details with the other driver(s).
Document the Scene: Take photographs of the accident scene, including all vehicles involved, any visible damages, and road conditions. This documentation can be invaluable for insurance claims and potential legal actions.
Witness Information: If there are witnesses, collect their contact information. Witness statements can provide crucial third-party perspectives on the accident.
Follow Up: After the accident, you can obtain a copy of the crash report from the responding agency. This report is essential for insurance claims and legal consultations.
Consult a Lawyer: Especially in cases of injury or significant damage, consulting with a Boca Raton car accident attorney can help you navigate the complexities of insurance claims and explore potential compensation beyond what PIP insurance covers.
Navigating the aftermath of a car accident can be overwhelming. Our Boca Raton personal injury attorney Kayla Sheldrick is ready to help you with every step, from filing a claim to negotiating with insurance companies. Reach out for a free consultation to ensure your rights are safeguarded.
Do I Need a Lawyer For a Minor Car Accident in Boca Raton?
Even minor car accidents can have complicated legal and insurance implications. A lawyer can help you understand your rights, file claims such as property damage or a bodily injury claim, deal with insurance adjusters, and ensure you receive fair compensation for any damages or injuries, no matter how minor they seem. Florida's no-fault insurance laws and comparative negligence rules can affect your claim, making professional legal advice invaluable.
For any car accident in or around Boca Raton, big or small, having the right legal representation is important. Call us at (561) 440-7775 to discuss your case. Our accident attorney is committed to getting you the compensation and support you deserve.
How Soon Should I See a Doctor After a Car Accident in Boca Raton?
Seeking medical attention immediately after a car accident, even if you feel fine, is crucial. Injuries like whiplash or internal bruising may not show symptoms right away. A prompt medical check-up ensures your well-being and strengthens any potential personal injury claim. Florida law allows up to 14 days to seek medical treatment to qualify for Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits, but sooner is always better.

Adding to this: if you ever get into a minor fender bender or any minor car accident, and the other person wants you to go to an ATM to get money to pay them for the damages, DO NOT DO THAT.
We had a customer come in who accidently pulled in to far into a parking spot, hitting the car in front of her. She wanted to find the person so she could exchange insurance and such-she was doing the responsible thing. Owner of the car comes up already angry, saying shit like "what the fuck happened to my car??" (He was a big white guy, she was a shorter, older white lady, just to paint the picture). Immediately she's scared as she tries to explain. They both leave the store.
She comes back later and explained what happened to one of my coworkers. He made her go to the nearby Wawa and demanded $1000. I don't know what he threatened her with if she didn't, but she didn't have $1000 so she gave him $500. We told her to call the police and her insurance.
In short: people are scum and be wary of scams
My mom got phished in an EXTREMELY refined scam that pretty much anyone could fall for-- basically her account was already pre-hacked and they spoofed the bank's number exactly, called her pretending there was fraud, and read back legitimate and fake transactions and personal info so she wouldn't suspect they weren't the bank. Then discouraged her from logging in claiming the account was locked so they could investigate the fraud-- all so she wouldnt catch them making massive purchases using her stolen info.
We have the same boss and when she told him what happened he recommended she call the bank directly, so she did and they managed to catch it in time before $20k of transactions went through. Very scary
I guess the lesson here is never ever answer your phone, I love that fraud is so rampant an entire form of mass communication is now useless
ANYONE can fall for phishing scams- my mom is extremely smart and we discuss common scams that target her age demographic and she still fell for this. If it happened to me I may have fallen for it too. Always be careful!
#scams#psa#im still pissed about this#it wasnt even a week ago. it was friday the 13th. of all days for this to happen.#like. not only did this guy probably do a crime (extortion? maybe robbery?)#but he also did it less than 2 weeks before christmas. what fucking scum.

Car Door Repair: Everything You Need to Know
Imagine pulling into a tight parking spot and hearing that dreaded “thud” as your car door bumps another car or a wall. Frustrating, right? Whether it’s a tiny dent, a broken handle, or a door that won’t shut properly, car door repair can seem like a big headache. But don’t worry — you’re not alone, and fixing it might be easier (and cheaper) than you think. In this guide, we’ll walk through everything you need to know about car door repairs in simple, friendly language. Ready? Let’s open the door to answers! 🚗
Common Reasons for Car Door Damage
Ever wondered why car doors seem to take the most hits? Some common culprits include:
Parking lot dings
Fender benders
Harsh weather (like hailstorms)
Break-in attempts
It’s a little like our hands — constantly in use, exposed, and sometimes bumped or bruised.
How to Tell if Your Car Door Needs Repair
Sometimes the signs are obvious (hello, huge dent!), but other times, it’s subtler:
Harder to close or open the door
Unusual noises when moving the door
Locking issues
Tip: Always inspect after minor accidents, even if you think everything looks fine.
Types of Car Door Repairs
Not all repairs are the same! Depending on the damage, you might need:
Paintless dent removal
Panel replacement
Handle or lock replacement
Interior electrical repairs
Knowing the right type helps you get a fair quote.
DIY Car Door Repairs: Are They Safe?
Sure, some minor scratches can be buffed out at home. But trying to realign a door or fix electrical issues? That’s like trying to do dental work on yourself — risky and potentially costly. Bottom line: Know your limits!
How Much Does Car Door Repair Cost?
Costs can vary like crazy depending on the damage:
Type of Damage Estimated Cost Minor dents$50 — $150Major dents$200 — $500Broken handle$75 — $200Door replacement$500 — $2,500
Tip: Always get multiple quotes to avoid being overcharged.
Car Door Dent Repair: What to Expect
Minor dents without paint damage? Easy fix with paintless dent repair (PDR). Major dents or deep scratches? You’ll need body filler and repainting. Good news: Many dents are quicker and cheaper to fix than you’d think.
Fixing Broken Car Door Handles
A broken handle is super annoying — it’s like having a front door with no knob! Common reasons for failure:
Wear and tear
Internal latch mechanism breakage
Impact damage
Solution: Replacement usually costs less than $200 at most repair shops.
Repairing Power Door Locks
Power locks not working? You could have:
Blown fuse
Broken actuator
Faulty wiring
Pro tip: Sometimes it’s a simple, cheap fix — don’t panic!
Car Door Won’t Close: What’s Wrong?
If your door won’t latch, it’s usually:
A bent latch
Broken striker plate
Misaligned door
Analogy: Think of it like a zipper that’s off-track — forcing it won’t help, proper realignment will.
Repairing Car Door Hinges and Alignment
Over time, door hinges can sag, especially on heavy SUV or truck doors. Signs you need hinge work:
Door looks low
Door rubs against the frame
You have to lift the door to shut it
Fixing this early prevents worse frame damage.
When You Might Need to Replace the Entire Door
Sometimes, repairs just aren’t enough. Common scenarios:
Severe collision damage
Structural issues
Extensive rust
In these cases, replacing the door is safer and more economical.
Insurance and Car Door Repairs
Good news: If the damage is from an accident and you’re insured, your policy might cover it! But be aware:
Deductibles apply
Minor repairs might not be worth filing a claim
Tip: Always check with your insurer before paying out of pocket.
How to Protect Your Car Doors from Future Damage
Prevention tips include: ✅ Parking far from other cars ✅ Using door guards ✅ Choosing sheltered parking ✅ Regular maintenance checks
Think of it as giving your car doors a personal bodyguard.
Choosing the Right Body Shop
Not all shops are created equal. Look for:
Certified technicians
Positive online reviews
Warranties on repairs
Warning: The cheapest option isn’t always the best!
Conclusion: Keep Your Car Doors in Top Shape
Car doors take a beating daily, but they don’t have to suffer in silence. Whether it’s a simple dent or a complex hinge problem, fixing it early keeps your car looking sharp and performing safely. With the right care, you can keep your car doors swinging open and shut like new for years to come!
FAQs About Car Door Repair
Can I fix a minor car door dent myself?
Yes, for very small dents, DIY kits can help. But deeper dents or paint damage usually need a professional.
How long does it take to repair a car door?
Minor repairs might take a few hours, while major work like replacing a door could take 2–3 days.
Does insurance cover door repairs?
If the damage was caused by a covered event (like an accident or vandalism), yes. Check your deductible before filing a claim.
Why won’t my car door close properly?
Misaligned hinges, damaged latches, or bent doors can cause closing issues. A mechanic can diagnose and fix it easily.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a car door?
Repairs are usually cheaper unless the damage is very severe. Always compare repair vs replacement costs before deciding.

Adding:
1) this is what your hazards are for, the instant the crash stops you, turn those babies on. Hazards had never come up during my written test for the learners, the driving instruction I got from a driving school, or the driving test when I got my first license but boy howdy in my first crash not turning them on got me and the other driver a lot of flack.
2) even before phones had cameras in them I carried a one time use camera in the car just for crashes. Take pictures of everything. Their car, your car, the other driver, the surrounding area, debris, everything. I have been sued over an accident, those photos given to my insurance got it thrown out. And I do mean take a picture of the other driver, you never know when their information is fake.
3) I have been in two crashes, one with a teen at fault for not braking properly at a red the other when the other driver and I pulled out of our parking spots at the same time and had a small fender bender so equal fault (I have the car cam video to back this up and you bet I downloaded it ASAP), that weren't. Neither one of these two caused more than $500 damage and were at such low speeds that injury wasn't on the table. Now technically these aren't crashes, they're bumps, so if they happen just remain calm and don't freak out. Do everything the way you would with a crash on site, but hold off on calling your insurance. Often a dent in the fender is not worth getting fixed or is such a cheap fix that it is less than your deductible and will only raise your rates to call in. If you freak out you will raise the likelihood of the other person seeing an opportunity to go after you or you will raise your rates for the next three years for no good reason.
4) GET THE OTHER PERSON'S INSURANCE INFORMATION. Get their phone number, take a *picture* of their license, get their email. This is what is meant by "exchanging information". Send a text to the phone number they gave you and have them respond right then and there before you both leave so you know it is real. Same with an email they give you.
IF YOU ARE THE VICTIM OF A HIT AND RUN:
1) Stay at the crash site, but pull to the shoulder if possible. Turn on your hazards.
2) Call 911, inform them that you were just in a crash and the other driver fled the scene. *Hit and runs are illegal*. Answer dispatcher questions as best you can and truthfully.
3) Take note of what you can remember of the other car and driver while you wait for the police to show up, in an app, on paper, whatever. Just do it while your memory is freshest. If you have a dash cam, review and download the applicable video so you can provide it to the police and your insurance. Text someone you trust to let them know you were just in an accident and are waiting for the police/medics. If you need someone present to help you with the police, call them.
4) When the police show up, give them the information you recall about the event itself and the other vehicle and driver. Let them know you have cam footage if you do.
5) Get the police officer(s)' name and badge number and a way to contact them, phone number or email. Which station they work out of is not a bad idea either.
6) Give them a way to contact you that you will actually check. They should, and you need them to, send you a police report on the incident. If the police say they don't plan on filing one, they are a piece of shit and you need to *insist* upon it. You need it for your insurance, and again, fleeing the scene of an accident is a crime. If they even hint that they are not going to file one get the station they are at so you can go in and file a complaint. This may not seem important, but I cannot tell you how many robberies and car jackings I have had cops laugh at the victims and say "tough, deal" to. But, again, you need that report for your insurance.
7) When the police (and medics if applicable) step away from you, and they will to go do their own things, that is when you call someone to come get you or to let them know what happened, or whatever if you didn't already do this while waiting after calling 911. Also a good idea to call your mechanic to see if they are approved by your insurance if your car is still drivable. If you have AAA, good time to call to arrange a tow if the car isn't drivable anymore.
8) When the police say they are done is when you call people to say you had an accident and are going to be late, post to FB, etc. This is not the era to risk annoying the police.

Now imagine this, replete with driving controls at both ends, serving on a par with the #2 Half-Dog, Half-Cat, Half-Track of Snagglepuss and Huckleberry Hound from Fender Bender 500 ... or even as a mobile stage for The Banana Splits in especially one-horse towns lacking any decent sort of performance space in the vein of an "opry house" or tavern.
