Temari was pregnant on her wedding day: A Naruto Timeline analysis
[usual disclaimer: I love studying canon timeline but no one's headcanons have to be bound to it just do what you like bye]
Note: for simplicity, I gave years numbers, the Kyuubi attack/Naruto's birth are in 2000 and the other dates are based on that
Fact 1: Gaara is at least 20
In Gaara Hidden, one of the councilmen tells Gaara "You've steadily grown, and reached the age of twenty" and Temari and Shikamaru are in the process of choosing their wedding date in this novel as well, so the Wedding has to happen later than that.
We know from the data book that Gaara is from the same school year as Naruto, and born in January, so he is born in January 2001. (In Japan, the school year is from April to March of the next year and the children in the same class are the ones born during the same school year, not civil year. If you want to know why I say that data books are based on school years, not civil years, flick me a request and I will happily do so! Just not here because it'd be too long.)
We can conclude that the wedding is in February 2021 or later.
Fact 2: Shikadai graduates 15 years after the 4th war
There is no indication that I've found in canon material about when the Boruto events happen, but we can read in this interview that Naruto Gaiden happens 15 years after the last chapter of Naruto. (We will have to assume that "last chapter" here means chapter 699, not 700, or else all the new gen has spent 15 years being teenagers at the academy.) Naruto Gaiden opens with Shino telling the class (Shikadai is there) that the graduation exam will be in a week.
The issue here is that chapter 699 happens in October (Minato says happy birthday to Naruto in chapter 691 the same day, and we know from the data books he was born in October) and the graduation is presumably in March (again, that's one the school year ends, and Itachi is also said to graduate "in the springtime" in Itachi Shinden). So it could mean either 15,5 years later, or 14,5 years later.
The 4th War happens in October 2017 (Naruto turns 17 during it, that's the age the data book gives us).
We can conclude that Shikadai graduates either in March 2032 or 2033.
Fact 3: Shikadai graduates at 11
It is the minimum age as per the law (it is said in Itachi Shinden, this law is made shortly before the Rookie 9 graduate: “now that it was a time of peace [...] it was no longer possible to graduate in a short time [...] no matter how talented Sasuke was, he couldn't become a ninja until he was eleven years old”).
It is the age at which all the Rookie 9 graduate (they are said to turn 12 during the first year of naruto and 13 during the second, again, I can give more details about data book ages in another post if needed).
The naruto wiki tells me that the Naruto data book says he is 12 for the Chuunin Exam, but the scan I have of the data book do not seem to indicate any age that I can find?
So this is not 100% a fact that I have found a canon material number about, but it's the most logical possibility (he's not allowed to graduate younger, there's no reason he would graduate older, this is what happened to the previous gen, and this is what the whole fandom seems to believe, so, yeah).
Similarly, everyone seems to agree that his birthday is September 23, I have not found where that comes from yet, but I have to assume it does come from somewhere. If you know please tell me!
[Edit: apparently it comes from a bonus calendar in the Shounen Jump issue 6-7 of 2019 but I haven't found a scan yet.]
We can conclude that Shikadai was born in either September 2020 or 2021, depending on the graduation date.
Conclusion
If Gaara Hiden and the wedding were in 2021, Shikadai cannot have been born in 2020, so he has to be born in September 2021. If we imagine that Gaara Hiden takes place right after Gaara's birthday (the earliest date) and then Temari and Shikamaru got married on the month that followed, Temari would have been 2 months pregnant, and this is the minimum she could have been.
Your honour, they have sinned.

Formula E drops Seoul adds Cape Town in updated 2023 calendar | Formula E
The FIA has issued an updated calendar for the next Formula E season which sees Seoul lose its place on the schedule as the series looks for a new venue for its South Korean round. Seoul’s contract to host FE began in 2020 and finishes in 2025. But the Covid-19 pandemic meant the first two planned events were cancelled and the series’ first trip to South Korea did not take place until August this year. The track that was used for the final two races of last season, which ran in and around Seoul’s Olympic stadium, was not expected to be available for the 2023 edition of the race due to redevelopment of the venue. That meant a new location had to be found for the event. The loss of the Seoul round is one of several changes confirmed by FE in its updated 2023 calendar. The first change to the season schedule is the addition of a new Cape Town E-Prix, which will take place on February 25th. This was one of the two vacant slots on the original calendar. The second empty slot has been removed. Meanwhile the Berlin E-Prix will now run for an extra day as a second race at the Tempelhof Airport circuit has been added. The series has previously used different configurations of the track for its double-header rounds. The removal of Seoul is the final change. The 20-21 May weekend, on which the city was supposed to hold its races, now holds a ‘TBC’ slot on the calendar as FE seeks a new venue. “We are excited to announce Cape Town as a new destination for our series in season nine,” said FE’s chief championship officer Alberto Longo. “Our local partners are working incredibly hard to bring an FIA Formula E World Championship race to the city and we cannot wait to see the futuristic ‘Gen3’ race cars competing against the iconic natural backdrop of Table Mountain.” He confirmed FE is “exploring other options in South Korea” to replace the cancelled Seoul round. “We are also in active discussions with more world cities and venues to host an event on the other date without a confirmed location,” he added. Pre-season testing will take place at the Valencia Ricardo Tormo circuit on 13th-16th December. Teams are currently still undertaking private tests with the new Gen3 chassis, and there have been reports of several heavy crashes already. The HSBC NZ Sevens Rugby Series is played in Hamilton, from 21 January 2023 to 22 January 2023. The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series heads to Hamilton, New Zealand for the first event of the 2023 calendar year, with the 12 Women’s and 16 Men’s teams in action from 21-22 January.
The organizers previously announced that the 2023 edition of the tournament which has been on New Zealand’s sporting calendar for more than two decades, will see the addition of a second playing field next to FMG Stadium Waikato to enable the full men’s and women’s draws to be played.
Fans will be able to access both fields with party zones, family zones, circus rides, as well as a wide array of food all part of the organizers’ plans.
Although there has been no official confirmation from World Rugby which 7 hosts will have the sevens events for the new structured season after this year, all of the media reports suggest this could be the last time Hamilton hosts the Sevens.
New Zealand Rugby confirmed World Rugby would not be choosing New Zealand in World Rugby’s decision to “remodel” the series into combined men’s and women’s tournaments, to be played in seven yet-to-be disclosed countries from late 2023.
The Brian Perry Stand has five levels which are home to function spaces including corporate lounges, function lounges, the boardroom, management offices, player changing facilities, retail concessions, media facilities and seating for around 10,000 for sporting events.
FMG Stadium Waikato has the crowd capacity for around 25,000. For the HSBC NZ Sevens this is made up of around 10,000 in the Brian Perry Stand, 9,000 in the WEL Networks Stand, 5,000 on the Greenzone grass embankment and 840 at the Goal Line Terrace.  The Stadium also has the ability to increase the capacity by 5000 with the addition of temporary seating on the Goal Line at Tristram St.

Staff Thoughts on SessRin
I think there’s some rumor floating around that the staff of InuYasha and Yashahime were surprised by SessRin.
It’s not that they’re surprised by the pairing, but one in particular was surprised that Sunrise and Rumiko Takahashi touched on the subject and made it happen. Let alone, all were surprised on the main characters having children and there being a sequel. With excitement.
Years before Yashahime became announced, and during this time it was “under wraps” but in talks. In 2018, The InuYasha Animator Sachiko Suigimoto. Who created their own personal interpretations of Adult Rin with Sesshoumaru and sold artworks of them standalone and in 2019 edition calendars. I actually own: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Sn5MWPQ93s&t=16s
One of the English voice actors that I know of. They were not surprised. The Canadian Actors, I can’t speak for. But the Japanese can speak for themselves.

Mamiko Noto says it would be wonderful for Rin to fall in love with Sesshoumaru when she becomes an adult.

In the raw, original live airing of the Yashahime Sesshoumaru and Rin stream. You can watch here: https://twitter.com/JeizuK/status/1337726838911561728
Ken Narita: "She certainly has Sesshomaru's features but.. The eyes and what-not kinda' look like Rin's.."
Mamiko Noto: "Ahhh! But we're still not sure, right? Right??" (sweatdrop)
Ken Narita: "Yes, we're not sure. ...She kinda looks like Jaken a little too."
This was actually cut from Viz Media’s translation because it was a spoiler. Ayuuria also watched the full livestream when it aired and can confirm he did in fact say Towa looked like Rin. Shonen Sunday Super 2020 Rumiko indirectly confirming that Rin is the Mother while joking Kenjiro Hata: "Uhm... er can I ask... straight up... who is Sesshoumaru with?! Well, I can only think of one person..." [Who did Sesshoumaru shack up???] Rumiko Takahashi: "First of all, I had no such idea! (laughs) ... Well, that's the part you can look forward to when watching. But anyway, I think they thought pretty well on this."

Mikako Komatsu (Setsuna) says that she thinks Towa closes the gap between herself and others is similiar to “that person” and says Towa and Setsuna’s relationship was a relationship similar to that of their parents.
“If you look at Towa, I think you can figure out who the mother is.” To which Souta says Towa is like his sister Kagome, and Jinenji compared Rin and Kagome. After the confirmation of Episode 15, Kaede says Towa is just like Rin.
Upon the Da Vinci magazine, the voice actors said if Rin wasn’t the mother that they would be upset. To which the name was blurred out due to spoilers at the time, two letter reading is Rin’s name.

Tumblr media
Considering, Rumiko Takahashi was at a loss when deciding the ending for the Final Act, so she went to Satsuki Yukino. It’s very possible she may have gone to the other voice actors or staff for ideas. https://twitter.com/shonen_sunday/status/1321028870938726403
Majority of the staff supported Sesshoumaru and Rin as a couple.
In the end, we can say. All were surprised that they made the characters, such as InuYasha, Kagome, Sesshoumaru and Rin all have children. Sesshoumaru being with a human as his development. Remembering it’s not like his old self and he has changed for the better. Let alone Yashahime actually becoming a reality.

What years does KnY take place?
Ready for more nerdiness?
I picked up this book, which is NOT an official Shueisha or Gotouge related publication. Instead, retired Shizuoka University professor, Owada Tetsuo, wrote this fandom deep-dive and nerdy flex called "Japanese History of Demon Slayers." It takes little bits and pieces of full KnY canon lore and explores wider historical roots, like drawing comparisons from specific characters to folkloric demons and making deeper speculation about the blue spider lily and such.
Tumblr media
I'm looking forward to tearing through this nerdy material as it's right up my nerdy alley, but I must resist while I must focus on studying for a different nerdy test, blah.
But here is one tidbit to share, especially for people who have way too much of a preoccupation with canon accuracy, like me.
Tumblr media
As part of the analysis of why the anime was such a hit (he draws the comparison of it marking the turn of an era, similar to how Japan recently entered the Reiwa period), he breaks down hints from canon (specifically, the declaration of it being Taisho at the start, Nezuko referencing letting the kids eat tasty things for New Years, and the Hand Demon's very detailed recollection of time) to arrive at the following estimate:
--The story begins in Taisho 2 (1913)
--The Final Selection takes place in Taisho 4 (1915)
Again, this is UNOFFICIAL, but it is based on sound historical reasoning I'm too lazy to translate at the moment.
EDITED NOW WITH TRANSLATION!! You can read my longer rambles about messy calendars and why you can’t make any assumptions about birth-years here. Pages 134~135 of “Japanese History of Demon Slayers” by Prof. Owada Tetsuo, published 2020/10/24 (non-official KnY) Translation Note 1: I’ll be leaving “Nengo” untranslated. This is the term for naming different periods of Japanese history. You may be familiar with the recent tradition of changing the Nengo according to the changing of Emperors’ rule, but it used to be changed for many more reasons than that, and they could be very long or very short. Furthermore, it’s easy shorthand to refer to centuries-long periods like Heian or Edo by simply those names, but there were many, many Nengo contained within those periods. Translation Note 2: The conclusions are Prof. Owada’s, not mine. (As part of the “Why Has ‘Kimetsu no Yaiba’ Become Such A Big Hit” section) “Kimetsu no Yaiba” is a story that takes place in which year of the Taisho Period? ~Based on the words of the “Hand Demon” at the Final Selection~ The impetus for “Kimetsu no Yaiba” becoming such a big hit was the anime which began airing in April of 2019. Prior to the anime’s release, the manga had sales of 3.5M copies by March of 2019, but by the anime finished airing that September it had suddenly risen to about 12M. I believe this has something to do with the change from the Heisei Period to the Reiwa Period which occurred on May 1, 2019. That’s because the setting of “Kimetsu no Yaiba” is when the era has just changed from the Meiji Period to the Taisho Period. Let’s start by considering exactly when the story gets its start. The official website states, “Set in the Taisho Period, Japan” and from Chapter 1 we know it’s in the Taisho Period. In Chapter 7, during the Final Selection which takes place on Mount Fujikasane, the “Hand Demon” asks Kamado Tanjiro, “What year of Meiji is it?” To which Tanjiro responds, “It’s Taisho now.” At this, the Hand Demon shrieks, “The Nengo!! The Nengo changed!!” and goes on to say, “Urokodaki was the one who trapped me” and “I’ll never forget what happened 47 years ago” and “It was back in Edo times… around the time of the Keio Period.” 47 years prior to Taisho 1 (1912) was Keio 1 (1865). Since the Keio Period was only four years long, the Final Selection had to have taken place between Taisho 1 and Taisho 4 (1915). Seeing as Tanjiro spent two years training under Urokodaki prior to battling the Hand Demon, we can assume Chapter 1 took place sometime between Taisho 1 and Taisho 2 (1913), and the Final Selection took place sometime between Taisho 3 (1914) and Taisho 4. In Chapter 1, snow is falling, and Tanjiro mentions, “I want to let everyone eat their fill for New Years’ Day,” so you can infer that this takes place in early February before the New Year on the traditional calendar. Since Taisho 1 started on July 30, the start of the story is Taisho 2*, which makes the Final Selection set in Taisho 4. That makes “Kimetsu no Yaiba” set in a world that just entered a new era, just like 2019. *Simply put, the Japanese calendar is a mess, and it was even messier back in the Taisho Period when you were still between official changes to the Gregorian calendar in Meiji and the wide-scale, more enforceable adoptions of the Gregorian calendar in Showa. Officially, July 30-December 31, 1912, would be Taisho 1, so Taisho 2 began January 1, 1913. The traditional/agricultural/semi-lunar/Chinese/what-have-you New Year in 1913 was February 6.

AA7 Speculation Post: 2021 Edition
So I did one of these back in August, claiming that it was likely we’d get an AA7 announcement sometime in September for the Tokyo Game Show. Obviously it was wrong. So I am doing ANOTHER ONE, because I apparently like publicly being proven wrong?
This will be shorter than the last one because I exhausted most of my material on the first one, and also there’s less material. There is, however, SOME new stuff we’ve learned since August. ... And I was going to make a post in November but completely forgot, so consider this a starting point for the year. I’ll be covering the leaks, in general terms, and theorizing when we will be getting announcements/releases.
The rest will be under the cut so as not to burden everyone with my ramblings.
The Capcom Leaks
First things first, a disclaimer: this information was leaked through a hack which was highly illegal and compromised the personal information of many former and current Capcom employees, and therefore, I do not condone the methods through which this information was obtained and will not provide any guidance as to how to obtain this information, nor have I sought it out myself. However, I will still talk about then in general terms, because the information is out there already, and the information I am discussing will not compromise any personal information.
In summary: early this November, the hacker group Ragnar Locker managed to hack into Capcom’s databases somehow and retrieved 1 TB of information from the company; this includes a bit of information on ace attorney, which was leaked in mid-November after the group demanded a ransom and, presumably, Capcom didn’t pay up.
The two major ace attorney reveals that came from this are as follows: the announcement of a DGS/DGS2 port for the nintendo switch, steam, and ps4 with an English translation, and a calendar for the development and release of this port along with... ace attorney 7.
It’s highly likely that this information was real, given the level detail and the fact that Capcom confirmed some of their information was leaked, essentially confirming that AA7 either is or once was in development -- more news about this than we’ve had in a long time! But what does it mean and when can we expect it? Let’s take a closer look at the calendar.
The Calendar
Unfortunately, this little thing happened in between the creation of this calendar and it being leaked, called “a global pandemic” or something like that, so this calendar is almost certainly behind.
But what did it say? I lost track of the original, but I did find a roughly translated version someone made (from this post which summarizes some of the stuff in the leaks):
Tumblr media
So... what does this mean? First, let’s remember two things: one, this calendar was made pre-COVID and things were definitely pushed back. And two, the Japanese fiscal year starts April 1st, meaning that FY2021 starts in April. This means that as of writing this, we are technically in FY2020 Q4 - where, if we were on track, would be nearing the end of DGS1&2 port production and midway through AA7′s production. (We are almost definitely not on track.)
The pandemic started hitting Japan around April 2020, I believe, so that would be in FY2020 Q1. The DGS ports seem fairly unaffected, considering it’s later in production, and also, the DGS games are already complete, so most of the work would be on translating and adapting the games for modern consoles, rather than starting completely at scratch like AA7. AA7 is a little trickier: it was still in the prototype/pre-production stage, most likely, when the pandemic hit. I’m not tooootally sure what that means because I’m not a game developer, but it’s quite possible that this meant it took a serious hit. Given that there didn’t seem to be a lot of other AA7 data leaked, including in a large schedule of releases for Capcom later, there is the possibility that AA7 ended up being scrapped owing to the pandemic or other extenuating circumstances... but I don’t believe that’s likely, with the 20th anniversary coming up. We’ll see.
Another thing of note is that the name “AA7″ is temporary. Here in the English-speaking world that isn’t a big deal because all the AA games have random titles (like “Justice for All” and “Trials and Tribulations”...) but in Japan, they’re referred to simply with their numbers (GS2, GS3, etc. standing for Gyakuten Saiban 2, Gyakuten Saiban 3). The fact that “Gyakuten Saiban 7″ is a temporary name could possibly mean that what we are getting is not another mainline game.
However, again, there’s not really anything to support either of these things. I’m just bringing up random possibilities to cover my bases; but personally I think it’s likely that it is another mainline game, and that it is still in development. If we hear absolutely nothing about AA7 for all of 2021, though... then perhaps not.
Now... obviously, this calendar was pushed back. If we’re in 2020Q4 right now, then by the calendar DGS1&2 is hypothetically going to be released in about three-six months, and there has been absolutely no word on that so far. If this calendar were still being followed, we’d have AA7 on sale in Q3 of 2021 -- meaning October-December 2021, possibly in October for the 20th anniversary of the series, which would be super cool. ... but I doubt that will happen now.
So then, when are we getting the games?
I haven’t seen actual evidence of it, but rumour is that they’re pushing back DGS1&2 for a July release and an April announcement, giving three months between announcement - release. This is a shorter period than the most recent trilogy switch/ps4/pc/xbox release, which was announced in September 2018 and released February 2019 in Japan, a five month waiting period.
When we English-speaking players will get the duology is unknown, too -- the trilogy rereleases took a month and a half before they were released in English, despite already having been translated and the original released in Japan coming with an English language option. (No idea what was up with that!) The duology released in Japan reportedly will have an English option from the outset, though the English released version will not have the Japanese option because of copyright issues surrounding Sherlock Holmes -- sorry, I mean, Herlock Sholmes. Still, we should expect a few months following the Japanese release before we are able to play it ourselves. Same goes with the hypothetical AA7, which seems to typically be around three months following the Japanese release for an English release.
As for when we can expect AA7′s announcement... to the extent of my knowledge, the shortest announcement-release period for a game was Spirit of Justice, announced in September 2015 and released in Japan in June 2016, a period of nine months. Usually it takes longer. Assuming that there’s still that six-month gap between the DGS duology release and the AA7 release, we could hypothetically have AA7 in early 2022, pushed back a quarter, and if the announcement comes nine months ahead... it lines up pretty nicely with an April announcement. If we’re having a DGS announcement in April as rumoured, it would make sense to tie in the AA7 announcement to that as well.
How will they be announced? ... I’m not sure. TGS back in September would have been the most opportune time for an announcement, but I have the feeling that owing to our good friend the pandemic, they didn’t have enough to show for either the ports or AA7 back then and so opted not to show anything. If these games are for the Switch, they could be announced in a Nintendo Direct. Or they could be announced in a Famitsu magazine with trailers released later outside of any other event. Honestly I don’t really know for this part.
Overall, though? This is the upcoming 20th anniversary of the series. I’d be surprised if we ended up not getting anything. Despite the pandemic likely pushing everything back, I think it’s highly likely we’ll get some big ace attorney news soon, even if it’s not quite in time for the anniversary -- of course, the safety and health of the employees comes first, so a bit of a delay will be just fine.
TL;DR: I’m theorizing we’ll have DGS port/ AA7 announcements around this April, with DGS being released around July and AA7 being released late 2021/early 2022, with a few months delay for the English versions.

Just a quick little note: yes, I have listed egos that have not been properly adopted as egos by the fandom, or characters that come from other sources. If we eliminate egos that aren’t Mark’s, we lose some greats like Googleplier, Author, Host, etc. If we eliminate ones that have been skipped over or dropped by fandom, we drastically narrow the scope down to a few ‘flavor of the month’ egos and a metric assload of Darks & Wilfs. So, my criteria is simply this: if Mark has at any time portrayed a character that is NOT himself as a YouTuber, it’s a valid ego. Fight me.
Thank yous to @.elite-guard-hardygal for the immensely helpful (Mark/Cyndago/Others) masterlists and to @.markired for the original bday list.
I grabbed as many as I could remember, but I’ve probably missed a few. Let me know, give me a link to the missing ego’s first appearance and I’ll update the list accordingly.

FCB Femení’s goal tally - January 2021
This is of the following competitions: Supercopa Semis & Primera Iberdrola. UEFA Women’s Champions League are not in this month’s summary as Quarters aren’t going to be drawn until March. Who do you think we’ll play next? I’ve got a feeling we’ll be playing Man City idk why exactly. The Copa De La Reina Finale against Logroño won’t be either since it takes place in February. This time I’m doing chronological order who scored first and put how much they’ve scored in the competition so far.
I’m not happy with RFEF. So if you are pleased with them, this won’t be a post you’ll like. Just a heads-up.
Primera Iberdrola
The city derbi against RCD Espanyol at Camp Nou
Alexia: 1 - the first woman to score at Camp Nou for Barça in an official match - Has scored 6;
Marta: 1 - Has scored 4;
Melanie: 1 - First Iberdrola goal of the season;
Lieke: 1 - Has scored 7;
Ana Maria: 1 - First goal for Barça.
The away match against Madrid CFF got postponed due to the excessive snow fall and extreme freezing temperatures in early January. The next date for the delayed match has yet to be determined.
The home match against Rayo Vallecano
Jenni: 1 - Has scored 10;
Zee: 2 - Has scored 11;
Alexia: 2 - Has scored 8;
Mapi: 1 - First goal of the season;
Aitana: 1 - Has scored 8.
First team debut for our 3rd goalkeeper Gemma Font in the 2nd half
The home match against Granadilla and the away match against Athletic got postponed due to Granadilla and Athletic teams having Covid contaminations, I question the validity of this but okay? These are the 4th and 5th Iberdrola matches that gets postponed for this specific reason, I find it very suspicious. The second rescheduled match due to Covid will be against Levante in early February. The next date for the delayed matches are yet to be determined. Already have a gut-feeling their calendar is gonna be a mess. Barça is who even knows how many matches behind and is currently the team with the least amount played. They have only played 13 so far. None of these are to blame on them. They follow every protocol. (Can you tell I’m annoyed writing this section yet?)
The home match against Real Madrid CF
Alexia: 1 - Has scored 9;
Jenni: 1 - Has scored 11;
Zee: 2 - Has scored 13;
Conceided a penalty.
2 red cards were given: Straight red to RMCF’s María Isabel Rodriguez for hands - very rare for a gk but she was outside her 16 region, my dad said that counts as a red. 2nd yellow to FC Barçelona’s María Leon for a debatable duel in the 16 region, resulting in the conceided penalty. Barça’s first red since the 2019/2020 Champions League home match against Juventus, which happened to be given to Mapi as well (that one was justified).
Total after this month: 73 goals scored, 3 conceided. 13 matches played. 13 wins, 0 ties and 0 losses.
Scored this season, not this month: Mariona (6), Caro (5) & Patri (2). Vicky, Kheira, Bruna & Leila all scored 1 each.
Edit: I got Caro wrong, she has scored 5 not 4 goals.
Supercopa Semifinals against Atlético
Alexia: 1.
Barça unfortunately lost the semis after a penalty shootout. This is the first match of any competition of this season and of the year 2021 they lost.

A round up of the events within the Tomb Raider universe that happened in 2020.
2020 was a quiet year for Tomb Raider when it came to games, however it was a good year for those who love to collect Tomb Raider goodies. Fans also helped to fill the gap between games, doing some very exciting things!
With 2021 being the 25th anniversary of the franchise, there were expectations of upcoming plans to be teased. The Tomb Raider Twitter began dropping some news, showing a preview of Weta Workshop's 'Anniversary' statue on July 25th. Weta then released a piece of concept art of the statue on October 25th. In addition to merchandise, Square Enix released a teaser trailer for an upcoming free-to-play mobile game called 'Tomb Raider Reloaded' on 23rd November, showcasing a more classical Lara and familiar themes from Tomb Raider 1. The trademark 'T.R.U.E' (Tomb Raider Ultimate Experience) frequently caused a frenzy throughout the year, hinting to possible remakes or remasters of past games but as of yet, nothing has come from it.
There were many a crossover as well. On February 16th, it was announced that Ubisoft’s ‘Rainbow Six Siege’ would receive a Lara Croft Tomb Raider elite skin for the character of Ash. Later in the month, the 26th of February, a Tomb Raider / Brawlhalla crossover was announced, where players could choose from either classic or reboot Lara and play on a Tomb Raider related map called 'Temple Ruins'. On May 12th, Tomb Raider outfits were released for the game 'Animal Crossing: New Horizons'. These were the 'Classic Lara Croft', 'Angel of Darkness' and 'Tomb Raider (2013)'. Also included was a piece of Lara Croft wall art.
Also on May 12th, a new Community Manager & Social Media Manager for the Tomb Raider brand was announced: @Rinoaaa, who helped in the creation of the Animal Crossing goodies. Sadly, the franchise lost Neal Boyd on 7th March. He was a level designer on Tomb Raider and the sequel Tomb Raider II. The community also lost Badassgamez's amazing Tomb Raider walkthroughs in December when he decided to step away from all forms of social media, removing his content from the Internet. Video gamer Steve of Warr presented fans with an interview he did with Core Design executive producer Adrian Smith. From this, he was given a disk that contained a 2000 E3 demo build of Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. These files were later put up for download on fansite Core-Design.
Various pieces of merchandise were released: ’Tomb Raider Omnibus Volume 2’ was available on the 1st of January. Royal Mail heavily featured Lara Croft in a selection of stamps and postcards that celebrated classic video games. The third Gaming Heads statue based on Lara Croft in ‘The Temple of Osiris’ released in the second quarter of the year whilst a fourth Gaming Heads statue was announced, featuring Lara as seen in 'Rise of the Tomb Raider'. The OST of 'Shadow of the Tomb Raider' was released on vinyl by Laced Records in February.
The Tomb Raider Suite is nearing its end, with the final items of KickStarter goodies - the deluxe tin CDs - finally shipping to fans in January. In November, Nathan McCree announced that the documentary was almost complete and almost ready for publishing, however, on the downside, the Coronavirus had forced Nathan to postpone the Paris concert at Le Grand Rex, originally scheduled for October 24th, and the 2 concerts in Australia.
The Coronavirus didn't halt the shipping of the ‘Tomb Raider: The Dark Angel Symphony' goodies, as 'Janice' worked hard throughout the year to make sure that everyone received their items. On February 14th, the Symphony was available to download on all major streaming and digital platforms. Two new clothing designs were released September 22nd on the Dark Angel store.
Core Design developers have mingled more with the community this year, whilst explaining details of Tomb Raider game development. Ash (from tomb-of-ash.com) hosted various livestreams that featured Peter Connelly, Andy Sandham, Tom Scutt, Jamie Morton and Murti Schofield, where the audience could ask questions and share stories whilst AJ of SurvivorReborn played Tomb Raider III, Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. Jonell Elliott joined Instagram in September and has been communicating with fans, even sitting down with Chris at Raidercast to provide the first interview concerning her role as Lara Croft and Tomb Raider.
Talking of Core Design, early in the year, Ash was given access to files relating to Core Design's ‘Tomb Raider 10th Anniversary Edition’. As well as publishing imagery of locations, characters and enemies, he asked the Tomb Raider community for help by creating a petition on 4th August for the permission of the legal release of Core Design’s ‘Tomb Raider Anniversary Edition’ assets. After hearing no response from Square Enix or Crystal Dynamics on the matter, he released the files via Archive.org on December 31st, where the community dived straight in to fix and explore the contents.
Fans have also been busy throughout the year. AOD modder Nakamichi had to step away from modding in August but he gave out the source code to his tools for others to continue his work. This enabled many others to come forward and port various characters into the game as Lara. 2020 also saw the breakthrough for modding in 'Tomb Raider' (2013) and 'Rise of the Tomb Raider', allowing players to change and customise Lara's model. Other fan projects that were ongoing throughout the year were: Giovanni Lucca's Tomb Raider III HD Remaster, Nicobass' Tomb Raider II remake and freakraider's TRAoD 1.5. Now of course these are just a few projects; fans have also produced artwork, 3D renders, cosplay imagery, music, videos, fiction and websites. 2020 has also been the year of Tomb Raider speedrunners and challenge players, where the aim of the game is to abide by certain conditions, be it using pistols only or playing the whole game in one sitting without using a medipack. The Tomb Raider Level Editor finally gained its own category on Twitch in January, separating its gameplay from Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation. Once again, the TRLE community at Lara's Level Base put together an Advent Calendar for builders and TRLE level players to enjoy throughout December.
One final note... Tomb Raider fans rallied together once again for another year of Extra Life, led by Stellalune, playing games on Twitch (not just Tomb Raider) to raise money for charity. They managed to raise $8,583, more than any previous year! And Tomb Raider Marathon VII managed to raise almost $5,000 within one year. Plus there have been some kind-hearted, generous fans out there, such as Nicolas Croft, that have ran giveaways, offering various Tomb Raider merchandise.

2020 fanfic review meme!
Thanks to @livenudebigfoot for tagging me and providing me with a legitimate excuse to reflect self-indulgently on my special interest: writing obsessive amounts of fic for Michael Emerson vehicles. What fic did I disgorge from my brain maw this year? This was the year I started writing for Person of Interest, the fandom that changed my life! I found a fannish community on the Subway discord and joined a whole bunch of exchanges, which I’d never done before.
In February for chocolate_box, I wrote 7 stories:
The Life of the World to Come (Person of Interest, Reese/Finch): Canon compliant fix it in which Reese wakes up in a lakeside cabin about 6 weeks after he died. Unspecified magical bargains were involved.
Arctic Flower (POI, Grace/Jessica): An AU in which Jessica rushes to assist Grace when a cyclist knocks her down in the park, and their friendship enables her to leave Peter before it’s too late.
A Bird of Foreign Tongue (POI, Reese/Finch): A sequel to Arctic Flower in which Harold finds still-in-the-CIA Reese and offers him an escape route.
Objet d’Art (POI, Finch/Grace): During a coffee date early in their pre-canon relationship, Harold has a guilty conscience about all the secrets he’s hiding from Grace.
Kintsugi (POI, Finch/Grace): The longer sequel to Objet D’art. Grace gets sick. She doesn’t have health insurance. Harold panics and decides to take care of her himself.
Incentives (POI, Reese/Fusco): John’s in the trunk.
Fixer-Upper (POI, Reese/Zoe Morgan): In every fandom, I write gender AUs. This one is Zoe Morgan taking always-a-girl!Reese under her wing.
Then in the spring, I wrote one story for the Hurt/Comfort Exchange and two for Exchange of Interest:
Line of Duty (POI, Reese/Fusco) 14k about Fusco making really self destructive life choices thanks to low self worth and unresolved trauma, while Reese is forced to stand back and wring his hands. And then, you know, exact a lot of vengeance. Harold has soup.
Number Every One (POI, Reese/Nathan): AU in which Nathan saves Jessica, and Reese comes asking questions.
Eden (POI, Reese/Jessica): A perfect, ordinary moment in John’s relationship with the one person who connects him to the world.
And then I wrote some stories for @livenudebigfoot because I enjoy making her happy.
An Indulgence (POI, Finch/Fusco): Fusco is having an emergency and Finch is there for him. My first foray into ABO and literally all they do is hug; is this my brand?
Bunnymoon (Lost, Ben Linus/John Locke): I acquired this whole new fandom/OTP without meaning to, and then I wrote 8000 words of animal shelter AU for it.
Shipoween was next, and I was very proud of the two stories I wrote because both of them are short and this is hard when you exhale novel-length plot outlines instead of carbon dioxide. Also they are both creepy and kinda experimental, like back in my Buffy days. It was also my first time pinch hitting for an exchange and I got a nice little buzz off pulling that off with one day to deadline.
a lucid dream (Lost, Ben Linus/John Locke): Ben is having a very bad dream, and it’s all his own fault.
One In the Eye (POI, Finch/Fusco): Harold’s a monster. Fusco’s a cryptid.
This was my first year doing a Big Bang exchange and the story I wrote for it is, in my own opinion, the best thing I have ever written.
Kingfishers (POI, Reese/Finch/Grace): An AU in which Harold didn’t introduce himself to Grace that day in the park. Years later, after Harold starts working with John, they receive her number.
I wrote a popular Star Trek fic in 2019 and then went more than a year and a half without updating, two chapters before the end. I’m sorry, I’m a monster. Now there’s only one chapter left before the end. I’m shooting to get it finished by the end of January. I’m sorry I suck so much.
K’diwa: A Steamy Novel of Interspecies Romance (Star Trek AOS, Kirk/Spock) And then, after a swift crash course in participating in fics and exchanges, I took on managing the POI Advent 2020 Calendar. I needed to write a five-parter in order to plug holes in the posting schedule, and a Muppet crossover was born.
A Muppet Christmas Carol, Starring Harold Finch (Person of Interest, Muppets)
Takeaways from reflecting on your kick-ass writing, or kick-ass lack of writing, during a year more focused on survival than perhaps any other:
I’ll be 39 next month. I’ve been writing seriously since I was 15. I was a very good writer for a 15 year old, for a 19 year old, but I could never have dreamed of writing the way I do now. No amount of hard work, practice, reading, conferring with other writers, editing manuscripts, or thinking about craft could have made me the kind of writer it’s possible for me to be in my late 30s. Youthful geniuses are a myth. I’m really grateful my agent couldn’t sell my novel 10 years ago--when I finish the next one I will get to introduce myself to the world as the writer I am now.
Most surprising fic you wrote this year:
Oh, definitely Bunnymoon. I had no idea I would be writing fic for Lost at all, much less that I would be writing a mundane AU with comedy and my first E rated scene in years. It is entirely the fault of bigfoot, who infected me with the fandom in general and the animal shelter concept in specific.
How you’ve grown as a writer this year:
I’ve learned a lot about what not to say--when to trust the reader--and I have benefited hugely from thinking hard about formal structure. Every idea used to turn into a novel whether I wanted to or not, but revisiting high school English lessons about short story structure vs 3 act structure has changed my whole game.
What’s coming in 2021:
I would really like to write one more story in my Harold & Grace series, another story in the Jessica Lives AU, and I’ll def. sign up for HCEX and Shipoween. But also, this year I am writing a novel.  Tagging @theimprobable1, @liz-squids, @argylepiratewd, @sidewaystime

creator tag game!
I was tagged by @pawprinterfanfic @hopskipaway and @thelittlefanpire!
I’m tagging anyone who hasn’t yet done this and wants to. It’s been sitting in my likes so long I’ve no idea who might still desire to play....
rules: it’s time to love yourselves! choose your five (ish) favourite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
*
it is new moon and twilight: This doesn’t feel like something I wrote this year...but actually it’s a semi-response to some things that happened in December 2019 and January of 2020 so I guess it fits. I was really scared to write this--I wasn’t even sure if I’d be able to!--but I love almost everything about how it ultimately came out. Also, it definitely has a whole-ass universe to itself in my head. (Past-Murven, Braven, Modern AU, angst, 4.5k, written February 2020 for Chopped: Choose Your Own Adventure)
Summer of the Not-Quite-Seen: I wrote this during my writer’s block and somehow it still managed to reach fave status. This fic is how I fell back in love with, or truly in love with for the first time, the underrated Jasper & Monty & Octavia dynamic, and I really think it nailed that spooky-summer mood. (Jasper & Monty & Octavia, Modern AU, 2.5k, written September 2020 for my summer celebration)
My Chopped Horror Fics Mad Women and The Wanheda Tape: Hey, the rules said five-ish, okay. Really, these are a set in my mind. I feel like it’s kinda obvious I planned them out together and never really thought I’d write both, even though they’re so different. These fics broke me out of my block, writing them was one of the best experiences I had in 2020, they both got absolutely lovely responses from people, and I’m really proud of them! (Gen, Sci-fi AU and Modern AU, 7.2k and 8.6k words, written October 2020 for the Chopped: Horror round)
The Ice Princess / Turn the Radiator On: I’m actually proud of how much is going on in this little fic. Also, I wanted to capture two distinct moods and I think I did that. (Bellarke, Fairy tale AU and Modern AU, 5.7k, for the Bellarkescord Advent Calendar)
A Documentary History of the U.S.S.S. Arkadia: Don’t ask me what this is because it wasn’t supposed to be that. It was supposed to be a moodboard and a fic summary because I didn’t have time to write a fic, and then I was like ‘what if I did it a different way’ and then it was a little ficlet thing that’s actually a door into a whole big old universe in my head. It confuses and intrigues me.
Honorable mentions: Release, Never-Contented Things!, and A Different Kind of Ghost
