10. what's your favorite book?

i think i've said this before, but my go-to answer for this has been lovely war by julie berry ever since i read it in 2021 (i think?? spotty memory lol). there are of course other books i enjoyed to a similar degree, but that maybe weren't so good objectively? like the ruby red trilogy by kerstin gier, for example. they're my most reread books and probably the ones that really got me into reading, but they have their flaws (the fucking ending, for one). i also always find it difficult to decide on just one book when there are stellar books in every genre that are just so different and kinda hard to compare. like, my favourite classic is frankenstein and my favourite play is the physicists by friedrich dürrenmatt.

also, in my teens my favourite books were probably the acotar series by sarah j. maas and the lux series by jennifer l. armentrout, though i never managed to get my hands on the origin spin-off. and my favourite book this year was salt slow by julia armfield.

21. a song that evokes a good memory?

there are quite a lot to choose from! i used to go to a yearly summer camp from age 10 to 15 or so and there was a specific music selection that was always played during the day and sung at the campfire at night there. i'll name a few that are coming to my mind immediately: trostpreis by alligatoah, wenn ich groß bin by sdp, knockin' on heaven's door by bob dylan, free fallin' by tom petty, autobahn by ohrbooten, über den wolken by reinhard mey, take me home, country roads by john denver and plenty more.

i will fight tooth and nail about the fact that the ant-man movies are the best movies from the mcu. if there is any mcu movie i rewatch and don’t scrub through, it’s this one.

8) Girl VS Monster

this movie is pure art. diemata’s “nothing’s gonna stop me now” is a cultural reset for me. also the skylar/ryan/myra throuple just about being canon when they sing “had me @ hello” together at the end of the movie??? we love to see poly rep

7) Knives Out

this movie is just art. i love a good murder mystery and this is great with a rewatch. i think glass onion was really great too but this one in particular will hold a special place in my heart.

6) Lovestruck

i’m SO mad that they moved this to hulu premium because it used to be on the freeform app. but basically it’s a movie musical where a woman takes a de-aging potion and tries to get her daughter’s husband to cheat on her daughter with her now young self. it’s got drew seely and chelsea kane singing “dj got us fallin’ in love” and i want to perform this dance at my wedding. also “how can i remember to forget” is SUCH a good ballad

5) Enchanted

who doesn’t love enchanted? it’s my favorite disney movie and though the sequel is mid, the original will ALWAYS be the best. the “so close” scene where robert starts singing UGH my heart.

4) Crazy Rich Asians

this is one of those movies that i find myself rewatching a lot with my family specifically. we can quote some scenes verbatim. we just love this movie. it’s a delight.

3) Room

this is a big change in tone but i just love this movie. i stan brie larson. stream “finally out of p.e.” that album slaps. but yeah it’s just heartbreaking and it’s always great on the rewatch and jacob tremblay is so good and so is brie larson and i just love it. it hurts me but in the best way possible.

2) Free Guy

i can’t articulate how much i love this movie. ryan reynolds. jodie corner. joe keery. the guy who plays rajit in basmati blues. it’s so funny and it’s one that i will never get sick of and it just brings me so much joy.

1) I Kissed A Vampire

this movie is awful. it’s terrible. it’s near unwatchable. but it is my Favorite Movie. i know so much of it by heart. i know the choreography. i know every lyric of every song. i bought the deluxe album on apple music. i’ve watched it with every person who lets me subject them to this awful movie. i’ve had friendships threatened because of this movie. i know way too much about this movie and the actors in it. i’ve seen the original web series just as much. if you haven’t watched the movie and love bad movies, watch it. it’s got drew seeley as an angsty vampire who is SO politically incorrect named trey sylvania. it’s got lucas grabeel (ryan from high school musical) as the lead. and it’s got the 17 year old daughter of the producer playing the main female love interest and her performace is absolutely grueling and i love her so much. apparently she works with snakes now??? go you queen.

-> last song: "do i wanna know" but it's the hozier cover. this is actually what i listen to when I read fallin. it makes me believe that love exists and didn't die as part of the Y2K Sacrificial Ritual. also makes me want to "rip my hair out of my scalp and eat it," as i told my coworkers :p

-> last book: if fanfiction counts, fallin' (absolutely amazing, made me want to rip my heart out homelander style... you get the idea). if it doesn't, Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paolo Freire and The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. I read both of these books concurrently for a paper I wrote about a month ago for a class of mine :)

-> last movie: i haven't watched a movie in a while, but i went w/ a friend to watch Gladiator II in theaters. it was pretty good! Came to watch pedro, stayed for denzel! he absolutely devoured... he was so sassy and for good reason. my bisexual(?) king (well, almost.)

-> last tv show: actually, the last of us! i have actually not watched the show in its entirety BUT i watched a playthrough of the game on youtube (i do not have access to a playstation </3). as with gladiator, came to watch pedro, stayed for bella ramsey. my child (she is literally a whole two years older than me)

-> last thing I googled: ut austin political science transfer acceptance rate. i am a polisci major who plans on transferring to a four year uni.

-> favorite colour: blue!!! anything blue!!! except electric blue (that skank bitch can die in a hole!!) blue is my fav color (although i can get behind a deep dark red any day).

-> sweet/savory/spicy: i am indian so i kind of need spice more than all of those pathetic sopping wet guys in the dune series. same with savory. might have a slight issue with my sodium intake.

-> looking forward to: submitting my transfer applications so that i can SLEEEEEEEP. i am actually filling out this tumblr questionnaire so that i can distract myself from every single deadline that exists EVER. also, once i transfer, i would LOVE to actually write and publish fics online. though probably not on ao3 (on account of the Curse)

-> current obsessions: life is strange (ugh i LOVE this game to pieces) and, as dams mentioned, joel miller. i used to be really ashamed and self-conscious about even INSINUATING that i lowkey wanted that old man. however, I have come to realize that nobody really gives a fuck about that. so yes, I (asexually) want that old man.

I´m kinda obsessed with the MV though. The song is also very good and extremely nice to listen to it. I totally can see why this one is the title track.

The "Intro" was kinda cool though. "Pandora´s Box" was a very good track. "MORE" was pre-released at the beginning of this month (Review here). "STOP" is a solid track while "= (Equal Sign)" is very vibey with an important message. "Music Box : Reflection" is an interlude that fits the vibe of the album very well and "What if..." is one of my favorites. "Safety Zone" is very nice and "Future" is also one of my favorites

I like the MV but sadly the song isn´t it for me. I mean it´s pretty solid but I don´t like the funky vibe in the instrumentation but the rest is so good it makes me sad I don´t like it that much. The lyrics are also very comforting and maybe this song will grow on me I´m not sure.

Since this is a Repackage I only rate the first 3 songs that are new. "Circles" is very beautiful although I´m a little bit ambivalent about the child choir. "Fallin' Flower (Korean Ver.)" is very nice to have and "CHEERS" got a pre-released MV as well which I´m kinda obsessed with. The rest you can find here.

Ahhh here it is after my long waiting for this. I loved the last album so much so my expectations were a little bit too high I guess. I mean I love this and it´s definitely an earworm but it´s a little bit too repetitive at the end. But the MV and choreography I´m in love.

"Black Hole" is such a banger I´m obsessed with it. "Yes Man" is also a solid track with a nice vibe while I´m so obsessed with "Swagger" and especially with "Mirror Mirror". And lastly "Different Song For Me" hits with an emotional song that hooked me from the start.

"KNOCK DOWN" is also a very nice rock track and I think with "Sucker Punch!" I could vibe with the best. "Strawberry Cake" really surprised me somehow and lastly "Pirates" has its own charm I´m completely obsessed with.

"SLIDE" is a solid start into the album but is kinda forgettable. "Win-Dow" has a very nice hip-hop vibe and I´m so obsessed with it so I´m really sad it´s just that short. "Love is New Gravity" is very likable while "HAPOOM" is pretty solid and lastly "Graduation" is on the emotional side and they slew with it.

Summary: She finds herself in the middle of a unknown forest after falling asleep. It seems like a normal forest until she gets to meet a mystical creature that welcomes her in a different world.

A/N: Hey! This is my first fic and I decided to place it in the universe of the greatest of the greatest. Geralt of Rivia! I don’t know where this will go 100%, but I know it’s going to be interesting. 😄 The reader starts of in our modern world and stumbles into the universe of The Witcher. I take my information mostly from the books and games but my fic is set based of the Netflix series so it’s basically beginners friendly.☺️

The music made her headphones vibrate. Probably loud enough for everyone around her to hear. If there was anyone. She was alone, hiking in the forest. It was what she always did when her anxiety got the best of her. The city is loud and dirty, squeezed full with people that never look around. Never realizing what was going on in the real world. At least what that’s what they called their reality. She always thought it was foolish to believe that they were alone in this big of a universe. Impossible.

Some stones here and there made her trip but she didn’t stop. She knew where she wanted to go and she didn’t intend to stop before she reached her destination. Kicking some branches out of the way and silently passing other hikers that greeted her with waving hand. She didn’t like the people in the city. All of them were selfish and money orientated. Of course, so tried to earn some money as a health center receptionist at her university but only to keep her head above water. Her focus was on her degree in medicine. She wanted to be able to afford a good life for her and her dad.

“And all these angels and demons Keep shoutin' and screamin' I'm fallin' from Eden”

She slowed down and let herself down on the ground.  Pulling her knees to her stomach and breathing in the fresh air of the trees. The pollution caused by cars and all of these different companies laying behind her. Closing her eyes and trying not to fall asleep. Her insomnia got worse on hot summer days like these. The missing air conditioning in her dorm room made it even worse. Two hours have to be enough to function. She couldn’t wait for the autumn to start. For the leaves to fall. And the crowds to shrink

“So fuck me like a rockstar, dancing on a cop car Nothin' in the world can stop me now Fucked up like a rockstar, riding in a cop car No one in the world can help me out-“

Her music was cut short and her eyes gazed at the screen. The Battery was almost empty. With an annoyed groan, she took off her backpack searching for her power bank. The only good thing summer had for her was the power of the sun being strong enough to charge the battery of the device. Still having her headphones in her ears. Just in case someone stumbled across and wanted to have a conversation. The easiest way to ignore people without seeming too harsh.

Her glance went up, analyzing anything she was able to catch. The mountains far back on the horizon hugged by a thick layer of clouds that protected them from any unwanted attention. The distance colored them in a blueish gray tone that would capture a lot of people. At least the ones who noticed and wanted to have a peerless experience.

Some strange black orbs were able to sneak into her daydream making her once again face the consequences of her lack of sleep. Slowly blinking she took a look at her watch. 2 pm. Still early. She just wanted to close her eyes for a few more minutes. To help her find her lost energy. Just in case she set her alarm for an hour and put her phone in the pocket of her pants. - “Everybody said that I'm falling, uh Took another line, I'm calling, uh I'm so sick of the nonsense, uh I'ma dive into the mosh pit, uh I don't really think I'm the problem I don't really think it's a problem Me plus me is a problem One gunshot could solve 'em Tell my friends I'm sorry though T-T-T-Tell my sins to go. And all these angels and demons Keep shoutin' and screamin' I'm fallin' from Eden”

The tones of her favorite song woke her up. Her headphones got disconnected while she was asleep. With panic caused by the rush of adrenaline, she paused the music. Taking a deep breath and enjoying the silence again. Her arms were stretched above her head and a yawn made it through her mouth. Slowly gaining back clear vision she looked up again. But something was different. The dusk was slowly setting in.

She failed to set her alarm correctly. But it could be worse, she wasn’t doing anything special today anyway. As she was standing up she looked for the mountains in the far, however, her view was blocked. Big deciduous trees rose in front of her. Maybe she fell asleep in a different place? A little far more into the forest? 

She got herself up and started walking her way back. At least what she thought was the right way. Somehow everything looked a little different. As different as forests could look like. The hiker trail was gone. Slowly breathing away her risen heartbeat she tried to focus. It’s just the forest how bad can it be? She always found her way out of it. She got lost a couple of times whilst exploring new paths but still. The air felt different. Not as heavy as she was used to. The trees were able to give her better oxygen as in the city but they just couldn’t hold all of the smog back.

Her feet automatically began to walk faster and faster as time went by and nothing seemed familiar anymore. She tried to find her starting point again but that seemed rather impossible right now. There was still a lot of light left but everything seemed strange.

She started to run. Jumping over the rocks and logs that blocked her way. As she was trying to bridge over the next log she wasn’t able to see the small lowering that led to her stumbling and rolling a couple of feet down. ‘Great, just great.’ 

Her thoughts were sarcastic, helping her to cope with the panic rising in her throat.

She looked up and let out a short scream. Some big bright yellow eyes were looking at her from above. They belonged to a child with pale blue skin. At least it looked like a child. She didn’t dare to move one muscle, staring at the creature in front of her.

It was barely as tall as a 9-year-old and it’s skin made it look like it was suffocating. A rough crown made out of sticks sat on top of its head. It wore some pants that had seen better days. They seemed to be made out of a cheap fabric that was ripped in several places. A green scarf was hanging from its neck. 

“Hello.” It could speak. His mouth was stretched to wild smile.

“It’s been some time since an ol’ villager got lost in ma forest. That was some fall you had. Are you alright?” Still staring at the creature she tried to get her words together.

“Ehm…yes I tripped and fell. I don’t think I’m hurt. Thank you.”

“Good to hear. So what’s your name? I’m James.”

She hesitated. She didn’t even know if this creature was human. She couldn’t trust just anyone.

“Alva. My name is Alva.”

“Nice to meet you, Alva. So what did ya run away from? Thought the Drowners were after ya.” Drowners? What the fuck are Drowners?

“Yeah so. Excuse me the question but you seem rather … blue?” She was scared to ask something like this but this little creature seemed friendly.

“Oh that. Have you never seen a good ol’ Godling? Because that’s just what I am indeed.” The little boy laughed and seemed to be happy to have found some company.

“That is a Godling?”

“You never heard of us amazing Godling?”

The little blue boy explained to her that Godlings are woodland creatures dwelling in burrows and moss-covered hollow stumps on the outskirts of human settlements. They are deeply rooted in their home territory and perform acts of care and guardianship to those dwelling near their burrows. They watch over people as well as animals, but, shy creatures by nature, they try to do so while remaining unseen. Godlings are drawn to joy and innocence, and so delight in the company of children and usually only show themselves to the young.

“That’s why I am talking to ya. You seem fun. At least you look funny.” The boy started to walk around her while lifting her flannel and poking her skin.

‘He’s the one looking like a tall version of a smurf. What is he talking about?’ Her thought rushes inside of her head, making her regaining the feeling of dizziness.

“So you’re telling me you’re some kind of magical creature as in Harry Potter?” The girl tried to order her thoughts by sitting down and trying to hold on to the facts the little guy was telling her. Maybe she was in a coma? Or dreaming? Possibly. These are the only explanations she could come up with.

“I don’t know anyone called Harry Potter. Is he a friend of yours?”

“Ok, listen up. You’re probably just part of my imagination so why don’t we have some fun while it lasts?” As long as she sleeping and lucid dreaming she could at least make the best out of it.

“Yes, let’s have some fun! I love singing, I love music! I heard some strange melody coming from your direction. That’s how I found you.” James started to do some little happy jumps and clapping.

“Oh, you mean this?” Alva took her phone out of her pocket and showed it to him.

“What witchy device is that suppose to be?”

“No magic. Technology. Let me show you.” She pressed on some Icons and song from earlier continued.

“So fuck me like a rockstar, dancing on a cop car Nothin' in the world can stop me now Fucked up like a rockstar, riding in a cop car No one in the world can help me out.”

The little one danced to the music and showed off some rather random dance moves. Spinning in circles, jumping up and down and throwing his hands in the air.

Still thinking of her lucid dreaming she joined her little Godling friend. Turning the music louder and louder they enjoyed themselves.

Until a growl broke the peace of the music. But both James and Alva were to focused on having von dancing to notice some strange noises. They didn’t hear it, down to the moment when the girl got hit by something sharp, making her fall to the ground.

“Don’t stop dancing Alva, you’re no fun.” The Godling still didn’t realize that Alva was sitting on the ground covering her bleeding upper arm with her hand. Looking up she saw the scariest creature she could’ve imagined. 

In front of her is standing a sickly blue or green colored human, with slime and sludge oozing out of every pore and the acrid stench of rot wafting off of it. No, that wasn’t a human.

“James! What the fuck is that?” The girl cried for help.

Finally objectifying the situation, James was hurrying towards the creature when it rose its arm for another attack.

Covering her face Alva started to realize that this is the moment she was going to die. You can’t get hurt in a dream. That is just not possible. Her arm was on fire, giving her a pain she never had felt in her entire life. This was real. Waiting for the next hit but it never came.

Slowly she opened her eyes to see only James in front of her. The monster not in sight.

“Where did he-?” Completely shocked by the situation and being unable to talk, Alva starred at the boy.

“Don’t underestimate the power of a Godling. Nothing comes between me and my forest. And since you stumbled in it you’re a part of it.” He looked down at her bleeding arm and his eyebrows furrowed.

“You need a healer. As much as I’d love to I can’t heal it.”

The words barely got to the girl. She was scared for her life. She never believed something like this could happen. But one thing she knew for sure. This wasn’t her reality.

“And all these angels and demons Keep shoutin' and screamin' I'm falling from Eden.”

My Ranking of Matenrou Songs

All done in good fun and is just my silly opinion. Music is totally subjective and what I find to like may not be what you come to like. So take everything with a handful of salt. Includes all of their album songs. I’m not including the battles as that’s probably deserving its own listing. Will throw Wrap & Rap and Lesson in there for fun too.

Overall, I think Matenrou is sort of hit or ‘eh, it’s fine’ for me. It’s either such a bop, that’s all I’m listening to for weeks. Or it’s one that I might go seek out either for researching purposes or it’s just specific mood. No real in between. And that’s probably because of the major differences in their members. It’s clear they were formed because of Jakurai’s eccentricity and fondness of it. And with any of the crews, I tend to like the team ones. I just like hearing different voices coming together. Especially when theirs is made to sound nice together. So yeah. 

13) Welcome U - It just didn’t feel like a Matenrou song for me. I’m sorry! I have no idea what Matenrou songs are but this just wasn’t it for me. I just didn’t vibe with it. Which is weird considering this was the first major song of Matenrou and technically my first since I did do the anime series first. But let’s put it like this, I can literally remember every other thing of the entire episode that featured this song...besides the song. Everything. But. The. Music. Of a series where the music is the focus. That’s not good. But to be fair, I more or less like one song from each team from the anime and Welcome U was not it for Matenrou. 

12) Papillon - Mmm, I dunno. I like the song in theory since it is very much them just kicking back and that’s cute. In practice? I don’t know how it didn’t click for me. I don’t think it was because of the talking because that was done in Ohayo Ikebukuro and I like that one. And I do find it fun as it absolutely sounds like them talking in the car. Maybe it’s just which styles blended together? I really can’t place why I do not like this one as much. Don’t hate it, don’t love it.  

11) Champagne Gold - I know! I know! I don’t know how we came to this considering I like Hifumi over Jakurai. But I just couldn’t get into this one! Maybe it was at a disadvantage because it was such a stark contrast with the others on the album. I have no idea. I do know I was a little put off by call back since it really just sounded like him in a higher pitch...which is fine but I’m pretty sure they just used a girl’s voice in an earlier part of the song and I just don’t get why didn’t use something like that for the call back. And too many champagnes. I am concerned for your liver, Hifumi.

10) The Champion - Poor frickin’ Hifumi. I’m sure he had to despair when he was looking through the verses of his teammates. Like do you guys know how to write a victory song??? Which is a shame because Hifumi’s verse and style was so suited for this sound. I honestly I don’t think it was the the verses so much as the chorus though? I know their voices generally sound deeper than most of the other divisions but felt like worked against them in this song. 

9) Lesson - And I think this is the last of my ‘I probably wouldn’t look it up too often’ songs on this list. I honestly thought Ramuda took the show in this one but I mean it kinda makes sense since this was him teaching Jakurai and of course Jakurai is gonna sound clumsier than him. I find this one really cute. It also was fun listening to how the beat switched up for every lesson. I think it’s only lower because I don’t have a way to listen to it consistently. But I do think of Jakurai actually ‘putting up his white flag’ to Ramuda and Ramuda able to point out Jakurai’s strengths was also super cute and also super sad thinking about what came after this. 

8) Party wo Tomenaide and You Are, Therefore I Am - Yes, I had a tie. Mainly because they have the same reasoning for being here. And that’s that they both have tripped me into their arms and not let me go. I wasn’t too into them before but both of them have grown on me. Ah, I think Party wo Tomenaide’s lyrics just ends up attacking my feels and it’s one of those pop songs that are actually sad and I don’t know, somehow that’s a subset of my music tastes. Meanwhile I wasn’t into the ‘being taken to church’ songs that are usual in hip-hop genre but I was really surprised by the content of the lyrics and it honestly sounds like Jakurai’s happy in this one. 

7) Fallin’ - This may have a slight edge just because I just think of that entire frickin’ episode when I listen to that song. And I dunno, anyone else feel like this was like them testing out if Matenrou could do the pace for what would be Tomoshibi? That’s what I feel like with that one. 

6) Labyrinth Wall - I feel like not a lot of people like this song. And I mean, I guess if I had think about the lyrics for a long time, I probably would be like ‘you okay over there Jakurai?’ But I dunno, the pace and the off-vocals? Banger. That swell into his chorus? Absolutely fucking great. Naaa...! Shindara doko ni--I chose this over frickin’ Tigridia for my ringtone for that part.

5) Tigridia - I originally had loved Tigridia first and that’s mainly because it was the first song I was listening to that used Doppo’s ‘natural’ voice all the way through. He has a nice voice! The sax is hella sexy in the background. Nice little bit of jazz. I’m surprised this wasn’t my friend’s favorite track tbh. But it eventually got beat out as my knowledge of hypmic grew.  

4) Wrap & Rap - Look. Look you can judge me all you want but this is one of those songs that could be played while I’m at some of my worst and I can’t help but smile at it. It’s my Sugar Song and Bitter Step. It’s a dose of seretonin and has to be parsed out because I have to go looking for this song if I wanna listen to it.  

3) Black or White - Yeah yeah, go ahead. Be unsurprised that my fave is at the top of the solos. But to be fair, I fell in love with Doppo’s verses and songs before I fell for him. Black and white ended up a hit for me with its vibe (although I admit I found a cover first and only realized when I going back through songs). When I learned the lyrics, I can’t help but smile and feel those words in my bones of miserable workdom. It makes my terrible shifts bearable.

2) Tomoshibi - I get so emotional over this song still. And it’s just. So. Vulnerable. I don’t know how to describe the feeling I get of actually thinking about the lyrics. And then just the music itself. It’s like a drive in the evening or early morning as it starts raining (I actually do often listen to this song on my morning drives). I’m never gonna stop getting got by the interjections of their teammates within their verses and how their tone changes after being picked up by that person. I can’t even with that--! It isn’t so slow it’s ballad-y but it’s not a dance thing. Which may be why it is just below my number 1. 

1) Shinjuku Style ~ Don’t Make Us Laugh ~ - If it hasn’t occurred to y’all by now, I’m a being in love with vibe of let’s fuck shit up and being a bad bitch. And that’s all I got from this song. Like how no one heard this song and didn’t go for the throat with these bastards is anyone’s guess. Especially since that Hifumi’s best diss verse and he chose VIOLENCE. And they just? Had such strong boss energy??? I don’t know how to put it! I love the mania of Doppo’s verse and also I continually laugh because he and Jakurai literally call Doppo and Hifumi some psychopaths. Like you wouldn’t think that dealing with them. Then you meet them on the battleground and you know it’s not an idle threat. This is one of those songs that if I had to get pulled over, let it be while I’m peeling down the highway to this.

first creation and most recent creation of 2020: so the first thing i created this year was posted in june (it’s been a rough year man) and idk if it was this palette from wayv’s turn back time or it’s still summer for bts. i never even posted this thing on tumblr omg, who am i? most recent was actually today, and it’s this moodboard for my wip the love we endure. 

one of your favorite creations from 2020: probably this wonwoo moodboard for my future dream thieves series, i just like the coloring for this one and the images i used. i’m a huge h*e for dark academia these days.

a creation you’re really proud of: this gfx that isn’t even that complicated or intricate, but i love it so much. i tried to keep it really simple and i looked at a bunch of references because i wanted to do it right. it’s nothing special, but it’s special to me.

a creation that took you forever: probably my fallin flower set of palettes, mostly this one and this one. the first one because i was desperately trying to get separate scenes with soonyoung and minghao but the color schemes were too similar so i ended up using them in a scene together. for the second i just couldn’t get seokmin’s to look good because of all the dark coloring and seungkwan’s was so short it seemed out of place. i settled with what i could, screamed about it for a day or two.

Anyway, Bellarke and co. are the stars of a popular show in its final season, and they are horrified by what Jaha comes up with story-wise. (Think those final GoT table reads. C’mon, we’ve all seen the footage of Conleth tossing his script aside when Varys is killed off). So they decide to recreate their own low-budget version of the final season. And Bellamy may or not be having a crisis regarding his feelings for a certain blonde co-star. OH! And how could I forget the social media tie-ins? Brilliant. Definitely read this one on a desktop to get the full experience.

Never Be Alone - How do you spend your days off when you have nothing to do?

i hate sitting still for too long so i tend to be doing a lot when i have free days. usually it’s things i enjoy like writing, reading or sitting outside in the sun, and some self care like watching shows that make me feel good or going on a walk and listening to music which probably leads to a dance party. really just try to make everyday full of fun and when i have nothing to do, i find something to keep me busy haha!

it really depends where i’m getting it from! i only drink iced coffee so from starbucks it’s always vanilla sweetened and at dunkin, it’s blueberry with milk and sugar. i LOVE love love tea so iced or hot, i’ll try any flavor and usually always have it sweetened except for when i make it at home which is when i sometimes don’t put anything in it.

Ruin - Name a feeling or a smell or a place that makes a specific person cross your mind.

okay so there’s this boy, who i swear was my first real love, and i can’t explain how it feels but there will be moment that’s unfolding and i’m experiencing usually full of happiness that will make me think “oh wow, this is something he would really like and i can’t wait to tell him”. it happens every so often but that happiness is always connected to him in some way even now

Roses - Do you have any plants or flowers in your room/house?

yes! i’m such a proud plant mom! inside, i have my little cactus (which i grew from a seed and is a real cactus now!) and my spider plant that one of my cats unfortunately ate ALL of, but don’t worry, it’s growing back. and outside, i always plant and grow lillies in the spring and my bunches of sunflowers which just bloomed this week actually!

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER!! i spent a whole year watching this show (yes it took me that long to watch the whole series, don’t ask me why) and the ending?? was the absolute worst?? i couldn’t believe after NINE SEASONS, the writers thought ending it like that was a good idea. still furious about it to this day.

there have been a few books that have left me the same way but most recently the one that comes to mind is the last book in the red queen series. i remember screaming at @lights-on-mendes because of that ending, even though i got closure with the later companion book, but ohmygod. that ending left me hanging and i did not like it one bit

Especially leading up to when I fell into a really low, dark place a few years ago. I couldn’t be that person anymore. I wasn’t in a good headspace. I pushed everyone away and became very distant and withdrawn. That was 4 years ago and I’m still out of that place. :/

Have you ever been a teacher’s pet? I guess so. I was always the good kid, the “pleasure to have in class.” Teachers loved me. What is your absolute favorite hobby? Reading, surveys, coloring.  Ever been to a tanning bed before? No. I have no interest in that. Are you satisfied with your financial stability? I have enough to pay my bills and a little extra for other stuff, so I’m grateful for that. Who is your favorite actor / actress? Alexander Skarsgard. Are your nails painted? Nope. Do you ever accidentally talk to inanimate objects? Not accidentally, but I talk to inanimate objects when they don’t cooperate. More like talk shit, but haha. If you could, would you have a pen pal? I did in 3rd grade. It was fun. We even got to meet them toward the end of the year during a field trip. I wouldn’t want one now, though. What color are the pants you’re wearing? I’m wearing black leggings.  What is your life philosophy? Hmm. Who last sent you a goodnight text message? No one does. Do you own any clothes that are your favorite color? Yeah. One of my favorite colors is black and most of my clothes are black. I have a few items that are my other favorite colors as well. Have you ever been in a hot tub before? Once for a short time. I didn’t like it. What’s your favorite comedy movie? Anniversary gift

A/n: here is the 3rd and final part to my little husband!Shawn series.

Summary: it's been 4 years since the wedding and Shawn wants to make the day special.

“Okay, pumpkin, I’m heading out. I’ll be at the studio until five. I made us reservations for seven. I’ll come home, get dressed, we’ll leave no later than six thirty. That sound good?” he asks, shoving his phone in his front pocket.

I nod, “Sounds perfect, baby. Have fun at the studio. Write a song about me.”

He laughs, his palm finding my waist and pulling me into his side. “I write every song about you,” Shawn leans down and presses a quick kiss on my lips. “I love you.”

“Love you more,” I say with a hum when he pulls away.

“Not possible,” he pats my hip twice before crossing the room. “Oh, and one more thing,” he says when he’s almost out the bedroom.

“What’s that my love?” I turn my head in his direction.

“Happy anniversary,” he smiles cheekily and I think I fall in love with him all over again.

I smile lovingly at my husband who is far too cute for his own good. “Happy anniversary. Now, go. You’re gonna be late. Call me if you need anything.”

“I know, I know.” He holds loosely onto the door frame. “Are you going into the store today?”

“Yeah, for a little while. Gotta overlook a new shipment. I’ll be there sometime this afternoon.”

He nods, “Text me when you leave, eh?”

I roll my eyes playfully, “Yes, dear.”

I shake my head at the cute nickname his mom gave me the first time I met her. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost eight years since then.

Fifteen minutes later, I walk into my store and am instantly greeted by one of my employees working the front. “Good afternoon, y/n.”

“Hi, Alex. How was your morning?”

“Good, thanks. Busy. How was yours?”

I hum, “Blissful.”

“Oh,” he snaps his fingers, “before I forget, something came for you about five minutes ago. I put it in your office.”

“Thanks.” I make my way to the back of the store when my office is. My face lights up when I see the bouquet of cherry blossoms sitting on my desk. I make my way over to them, finding a card sticking out the side.

Happy anniversary to my wonderful wife! Every single day with you is like a dream. I love you so much and I’ll see you tonight. - Shawn

I place my hand over my heart and sigh contently at his scribbly handwriting. “He’s the cutest,” I say to myself and text him a quick thank you.

I’m sitting down, admiring my flowers when my phone rings.

"Hello, husband."

“Hello, wife. I assume you got your flowers.”

“I did,” I nod even though he can’t see me. “They’re beautiful, thank you.” I stare at the blown up picture of us on the wall next to me. Our foreheads are pressed against one another and my hands are grasping at his cheeks. You can see my all too prominent diamond ring and I hum at the memory of when that was taken. It was our first wedding anniversary and he was on tour, flew me out to see him for the week - in my hometown. He took my out to dinner and then we met with some of the guys at a bar near the hotel. They were playing a few country songs, and nothin' like you by Dan and Shay came on. Shawn instantly brought me to the dance floor and we swayed pathetically to the beat. (Because he remembered how much I loved that song when they had opened for him on his previous tour. And it soon became our song.)

"Y/n?"

I hum, "Sorry. I was just thinking."

"About me?"

"Always about you."

He chuckles, "I love you, darling."

"I love you too, rockstar."

"Dinner was amazing, Shawn. Thank you for bringing me out."

"Of course, y/n/n." He brings me closer to his side. "You up for a little drive?"

"I'm up for anything," I confirm.

He leans down and kisses my lips softly, "Let's go." Shawn played his music softly in the car while he drove us to an unknown destination. I held his hand in my lap and brought it to my lips to press a feather like kiss to his swallow tattoo.

"Where are we going, bub?"

"You'll see."

I nod and close my eyes, smiling when fallin' all in you filled the car speakers. He reaches forward to turn it up when he sees me blissing out completely. It's my favorite song and he knows it. Well, he knows that every song of his is my favorite, it all just depends on the day. But this one is it every day.

We pull up to the park he took me to on our first picnic date about six years ago. To this day, that is my favorite date he's taken me on. We'd been together for just over a year at that point and we were talking about god knows what in his condo with a bunch of the guys. One of them brought up worst first dates or best or something or another, I can't remember exactly. But I let it slip that I'd never been on a picnic, but I'd always wanted to. Next day, there we are with a big blanket and basket full of food, sitting beneath the large willow tree in the center of the park, eating chocolate covered strawberries that he no doubt had Aaliyah make.

"What are we doing here?" I ask as he walks us to that tree again, which has now become our spot.

He lets out a deep breath and turns to face md, taking both of my hands. "Y/n."

"Me," I say jokingly.

He smiles and brings my hands up to his lips. "You know I love you, right?"

"Well I would hope so. We've been married four years."

Shawn shakes his head, a smile still on his face. "I want to do this right, this time."

"Do what right?"

"Four years go, I called you up late at night and I said that we should get married. That I was tired of waiting. I just wanted to be with you right then and there."

I nod, "I remember."

"I proposed to you over the phone and I didn't even have a ring to give you. And you married me in a  courthouse on a Saturday because you had midterms starting Monday. So we didn't get a honeymoon either."

I shrug, "But I got you… why are you making this sound so sad, bubs?"

"No, I'm not trying to. I'm so glad I married you when I did. But you deserve that big wedding that every girl dreams of having. With the large dress and the flowers and bridesmaids. You deserve to have all that and I know you said when we were at the courthouse that it didn't matter. But it does."

"Shawn-"

He gets down on one knee and let's go of my hands briefly to reach into his shirt pocket. "I'm gonna do this right, y/f/n y/m/n. These past seven years have been amazing. And the past four years being married to you have been absolute bliss. But you deserve to have that big white wedding dress. So, my love, will you marry me again?"

"Oh god!" I cover my tear stained face and nod. "Yes. Yeah, I'll marry you again."

He puts the ring around my already occupied finger, but it fits perfectly against the one I had been sporting for years now. His lips connect with mine and I hum into his mouth.

"I love you," I murmur against his lips.

Kelly Clarkson's Retro, Uplifting Dream of Unity

Hillary Clinton’s recent memoir What Happened opens with a quote: “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” It’s attributed to “Friedrich Nietzsche (and Kelly Clarkson).” When she learned of this citation, Clarkson, a Clinton supporter in the 2016 election, responded online with a “Yaaaasssss!,” a string of emojis, and a new hashtag: #philosophergoals.

Clarkson is one of many pop belters in a mutual-admiration society with the first female presidential nominee for a major party. But from some angles—or perhaps from the vantage point of Clarkson’s breakout year, 2002—it’s odd that such an entertainer would be so publicly tied with a partisan figure. The first American Idol winner once represented the belief that the nation is, well, one nation: united in Tuesday night TV viewing and an appreciation for Etta James’s “At Last,” if nothing else. Listening to her new album, Meaning of Life, raises the question of what’s changed—Clarkson and artists like her, or the country?

When American Idol wrapped last year, critics mourned both it and the “monoculture” it represented. Though the oft-cited notion that it attracted more votes than the presidential election is a bit of a myth, the series held the No. 1 spot in TV rankings for more years than any other show in history. A Texan and former waitress with a big voice, Clarkson has been branded with the assumption-laden, racially blinkered, but still-potent label of “everywoman.” She even turned out to have a bipartisan sensibility: In the years since her victory, you could find her supporting not only Clinton and Barack Obama but, in 2012, also Ron Paul.

Idol’s slowly cratering ratings over the years were attributed to viewer burnout and competition from other competitions, but also the general atomization of the viewing public in the age of infinite content. With YouTube and Netflix and presidential tweets competing for attention, it’ll be rare to see any non-sports program again reach the 38.1 million people that the Season 2 finale did. As time went on, the show revealed a preference for southern and male performers, and surveys found that American Idol’s viewership skewed Republican.

Clarkson’s 15-year career has been defined both by monster hits and by a public struggle with the media-manipulation industry that Idol represented. She chafed under the direction of the record exec Clive Davis. She swore off Dr. Luke, the hitmaker and accused abuser. She fired back at body-shamers on social media. And she now isn’t mincing words about reaching the end of the record contract she signed with RCA through Idol. Meaning of Life, being released on Atlantic Records, she has said, represents the conclusion of an “arranged marriage.”

The most obvious way to read her narrative—as she has presented it, time and again in song—is as one of resilience and individuality. Who can’t relate? But through other lenses, you see a feminist struggle. You see a fight against corporate control. You see a battle against bullies. You see a mascot for decency. Is that unifying in 2017?

Meaning of Life’s final song, “Go High,” lifts from Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention for its chorus: “when you go low / I go high.” It’s the only news-referencing moment on the album, and the sound of the song is also the album’s most au courant. Over a door-rattling electronic bass pulse and dreamy finger snaps, the chorus sees vocal manipulation stretching the word “high” past the upper edges of Clarkson’s considerable range, as if she’s huffing helium. Clarkson wields the former First Lady’s slogan as neutrally as possible, singing only of being strong, taking the high road, and standing for something. Which is a familiar pop maneuver: See Fifth Harmony’s recent album closer, with its call to build “bridges, not walls” in a strictly inspirational sense.

The rest of Meaning of Life has Clarkson returning to the same theme that’s powered hits like “Miss Independent,” “Because of You,” “Since U Been Gone,” and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You).” Over and over, she kisses off some power-imbalanced relationship and searches for a more satisfying connection. Often, she’s trying to coax a less-than-enthusiastic partner into doing better. “Remember not long ago you called me hysterical?” she asks on the stuttering highlight “Didn’t I.” “I finally figured us out my fire was hot enough to burn on for the both of us.”

But musically, there is a slight shift. Her eighth studio album is her first since leaving RCA, and she has said it’s the album she’s always wanted to make: one that answers the question, as she put it to The New York Times, “What if Aretha was born now and made a record today?” The majesty implied by such a comparison isn’t here, but you do hear what she and her team were going for: plinking piano and swaying horns (from Earth, Wind, & Fire themselves on two songs); electronic percussion and some structural features drawn from hip-hop; and plenty of big, dramatic bridges for Clarkson to make like she’s serenading Paula Abdul in 2002.

This retro-filtered peppiness and passion isn’t quite the profitable fad in pop lately. But it is a sound that female stars have adopted to a surprising extent lately, whether by enlisting the Dap-Kings (Kesha) or Mark Ronson (Lady Gaga). Demi Lovato’s new album is much in the vein of Meaning of Life, too, but with slightly more radio savvy. The swerve back to soul for these women comes off as both an aesthetic and ideological reply to a charts landscape ruled by heavily processed, rap-inflected male voices. For Clarkson in particular, it makes sense: “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” was always her perfect mission statement, simultaneously defiant and traditional. And nothing courts a mass adult audience like reminders of the classics.

Songs like “Whole Lotta Woman,” a Tina Turner–referencing stompalong, do verge on the edge of feeling like costume play—but Clarkson connects the revival-church sound to her biography, playing up her Texan bona fides. The outro is fascinating, mutating into a trap breakdown but with women singing that style’s “hey” rhythm like doo-wop. On the lead single “Love So Soft,” she similarly rotates between shimmy-worthy verses from the Amy Winehouse school and a robotic, pop-and-lock chorus. It’s an odd brew, and nothing sticks with the force of Clarkson’s greatest hits, but her diehards should be charmed.

Yet is there still a presumed casual listener, an American Idol arena, for Clarkson to court? Her album sales have fallen (from 1.1 million units for 2011’s Stronger to less than 300,000 for 2015’s Piece by Piece)—but that’s not at all shocking in the context of the decline of album sales in general. As much-discussed, this year’s pop charts seem newly indifferent to big female voices like hers, and the notion of an entertainer who can cross the country’s cultural divides is ever-more elusive. At a time when the president is calling on followers to boycott plays, TV networks, and professional sports for protesting him, Clarkson’s dabbling with the Democrats may be disqualifying for some. Online and in interviews, she’s made clear she’s unconcerned with alienating listeners with her opinions.

Some big-tent pop attempts from Clarkson’s contemporaries, like Katy Perry, have flopped—possibly for some of the reasons mentioned above, or possibly just because they aren’t making the caliber of music they used to. The onetime unifier Taylor Swift seems set on dividing her potential listenership into camps of friends and rivals with her barbed new material. Beyonce’s output has gotten ever-more daring and ever-more controversial. One exception is Pink, the hitmaking stalwart with a surprising amount in common with Clarkson—including in her balancing of outspoken persona with crowdpleasing songs. Her new record, Beautiful Trauma, just debuted with the highest sales numbers since the last album by Drake, who’s the exemplar of the kind of artist edging out radio-owning divas.

Clarkson hasn’t generated any big hits off her new material yet, but there’s still potential. Take the schmaltzy standout “Move You,” which calmly and methodically insists on being added to the canon of newlywed first-dance tracks. Over clean organ lines, Clarkson strings together lump-in-the-throat phrases: She wants to move you “like the first time that you listen to your favorite singer live” or “like the home that you were raised in.” In the third verse, the arrangement falls out for an acoustic-guitar interlude, and Clarkson describes “a soldier who is fallin’ as he holds his country’s flag and he fights for freedom’s callin’.” At a moment when arguments over what constitutes “respecting the troops” are newly tense, the line might read as a sop to the red states. But Clarkson’s salute, like her call to  “go high,” is only politically fraught if the listener makes it so. Pop’s great dream of uplift for everyone is still alive—if anyone wants it.
