I humbly request help.
So, for my fablehaven fic I'm trying to piece together all of the powers for things. Such as being fairykind, fairystruck, shadow charmer, etc...
And I'm asking that if you know or remember anything please tell me in the comment area or reblog or whatever 'cause I wanna make sure that everything is actually consistent
And if that means overhauling Canon to make sure that everything actually aligns and nothing is randomly changed or a piece of information is suddenly available? So be it. Since whilst I don't remember a whole lot of dragonwatch (which probably won't be included, I may change my mind on that though).
I do remember that a lot of stuff just, changed. And some stuff got revealed, and yeah. So, assistance would be appreciated!
No pressure tho, just wanna make sure everything is good.

she’s rude because she’s just like/is the fae she sees
Ooooh ok just read the first chapter of Emily of new moon and I am so excited because I remember very little of the story so it will be mostly “new” to me.
Things that stood out:
Emily as an “otherworldly creature”. Her elfish ears, her ability to see “the flash”, her imagination is so vivid and real. Less like Anne in which you feel you are watching a child with a great imagination full of wonderful fanciful things. Emily feels more like you are watching a child who can actually see these creatures. And the creatures are not always good, per say. They are the fair folk, the tricksters, the old gods. It also gives the sense, unlike with Anne, that the wind woman exists, but Emily is one of the few privileged to actually know her.
Note: I will probably be comparing Emily to Anne a lot. I think it’s natural with Anne being the best known and the most loved and very similar in many ways, but different in others
Emily and her father seem close, but I think he dies in like the next chapter. Interesting to see how Emily takes that.
The sudden drop back to reality in the end of the chapter was such a good tonal shift. Going back to Emily being otherworldly, it’s like she wants to exist in this fairyland. That’s where she belongs, but she keeps getting dragged back to the real world.
Reminder of why I don’t really love Emily. She’s rather abrasive. She says what she thinks and is pretty rude about it. Idk I feel like if I met her irl I would not like her.

I’m just picturing some background fairy quietly fuming because those damn Fairywinkle-Cosma’s keep getting all of these big celebrations. Like, first fairy baby born in a thousand years and THEN first godkid fairy-adopted in a thousand years?? this is unfair and they’re calling a union meeting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unless you were trapped in the basement of your anti-fairy counterpart for over 1,000 years, you’d know all about the Fairywinkle-Cosmas! They’re practically everywhere in Fairykind history!
Every Fairy’s pretty used to it at this point. They’re sorta like the Kardashians for the more older fairies. It can sometimes be pretty annoying to hear them on your tiktok feed when you’re not that into celebrities, though.

bad ending: timmy grows up and completely forgets his fairies like they never even existed
good ending: timmy gets adopted by cosmo & wanda, becomes a fairy and is never seen again in the human world
true ending: timmy grows up and makes a life of his own on earth BUT gets to keep his memories about fairies and becomes an intermediary between new godkids and fairykind. in other words he gets to keep his friends and family from BOTH earth and fairy world

If fablehaven was mermaids this is what I think their mermaid tales would look like: Kendra: Its color changes depending on the temperature of the water, colder is more sapphire blue, lukewarm emerald green, warm gold, and hot is ruby red (I say this because kendra’s favorite colors changes, as we see with the wizenstone, so her tail kinda reflects that). When she becomes fairykind, her scales are laced with some kind of ultraviolet bioluminescent color that only some fish can see Seth: he’d be like a ghost pipefish. They can camouflage very well into their environment and are very hard to spot in the wild. I think he’d blend in with the seagrass very often when he and kendra are playing hide and seek. When he becomes a shadow charmer, he is able to survive in colder water temperatures (ghost pipefish usually live in about 22.1-29 degrees C but don’t quote me on that) Lena: I think she would be a dolphin because they are very playful in nature, and I think that’s what naiads intend to be (though they think drowning people is their idea of fun) plus she goes to the surface a lot as a dolphin Stan: flatfish because he can’t stop making pancakes for breakfast 😭 Ruth: i think she would have a crimson-colored tail, and this is a dumb reason but it’s because I feel like the color red fits her character well. Like it matches her personality (or what I remember of it) Dale: Green like the color of kelp, as he tends to the farm all day Warren: a great white Shark. Probably has some scars because he’s literally a knight of the dawn. Idk what else to say Tanu: some color of koi because they remind me of splashes which reminds me of potions Vanessa: Multicolored betta fish, but her tail color could change depending on who she’s possessing Bracken: Pearlescent, icy blue, or some combination of the two Ronodin: Inky black with flecks of gold and/or maroon Calvin: some species of minnow. I can’t decide what because I don’t get a specific color vibe from him Eve: Midnight blue. She is literally the [Eve]ning Lemme know if I should add any other characters or if you have a different idea for what their mermaid tails would look like!

Rereading Fablehaven so here are some headcanons
The fairies in FH universe are undoubtedly beautiful but also are equipped with sharp fangs that hurt a lot when they bite someone
After Kendra becomes fairykind her ears become slightly pointed and her teeth become sharper but the sharp fangs are only visible to those that have drank the milk
Vanessa has multiple tattoos
Warren has one tattoo which is very small because it hurt so much but he wears it with a badge of honor (he will never admit it was dare or that it’s a butterfly)
Ruth Sorensen has a tattoo which very few people have seen but apparently it’s pretty bad ass
Kendra and Seth took it upon themselves to get Warren up to date on pop culture stuff after he woke up. Seth covered memes and Kendra covered pretty much everything else
Kendra has a rather diverse music taste (much to most people’s surprise) and loves to make playlists for people
Seth will not admit that he listens to the playlists Kendra made him daily
After the death of Kendra’s stingbulb Warren didn’t listen to the playlists Kendra had made him and instead listened to her favorite songs on repeat
Dale grows numerous plants around his home and names them all. He also knows all of the livestock animals by name
Small animals have a habit of imprinting in Dale whether he likes it or not. This extends to magical animals as well
Dale became very fond of Seth. Warren got very attached to Kendra.
Stan Sorensen doesn’t drink often but one time during the holidays when everyone was drinking, Warren attempted to keep up with Stan and ended up very shitfaced
Stan walked away fine
Kendra can and will cuss someone out when needed, especially after Zzyzz. Vanessa and Warren are very proud, everyone else is terrified
Seth snuck fireworks into Fablehaven for the Fourth of July and many of the creatures requested that he do it again
Seth made the mistake of stealing from Kendra’s plate once and she hit him, fangs and all, he never did it again
Warren is the only one that can steal food from Kendra without getting bitten
Seth is not very touchy feely when he’s awake but when he’s asleep he will latch onto the nearest person
Warren is 100% a cuddler, so is Kendra, they can and will struggle snuggle Vanessa

FOP miscellaneous magic thoughts because I like trying to make sense of magic systems :)
When I think about it I think “Da Rules” is actually filled with many different kinds of rules. Like there are some that specifically only affect Fairy godparents, there are some that affect most of fairykind, and some that are almost like natural laws of magic. So some are made by fairy leaders like Jorgen and are enforced by the power of the rulebook and some were naturally occurring, or enforced by other things, and just recorded in the rule book to keep track of them.
Irep was able to break wishing rules very easily, and yet had to work within the rules to get a godkid until they took down the big wand. So I think some rules are more important than others. It makes me wonder about how much rule-free wishes can do. Like they might be able to do literally anything if they don’t have to adhere to ANY type of rule.
Also! Looking at the wiki I realized why having a godkid might be sought after even if it means potentially dealing with magical backup. And it might be the same reason tbh because one of the things noted on the wiki is that godparents can generally grant more grandiose wishes than the average fairy.
It makes me wonder if the whole reason genies and fairies and pixies and anti-fairies put such value in granting wishes is because human desires inherently hold some sort of magic that the godparent passively receives, meaning that a normal magical creature can usually go a while without using magic but godparents can’t.
This is all just speculation but it’s fun for me I love trying to build/expand worlds so much!!

“FEY: A Guide to Fairies of the Butch Variety” themes (Text version)🐸
This book will explore butch fairies, arranged into six differently themed sections. Below are descriptions of these themes, as well as a number of example concepts that might fall under them! You can choose one of the examples we’ve provided, or come up with something yourself - as long as you run it by the mods to approve!
We will be choosing five (5) artists and one (1) writer per theme - one (1) artist to illustrate the ‘title spread’, and four (4) to illustrate the ‘guides’ within. The writer will be asked to provide snippets, comments, short poems, and descriptions to intersperse with spot illustrations on the ‘guide’ pages.
🌱 Garden Fairies
Garden fairies thrive in the world’s backyards - they can be plant-themed, critter-themed, and insect-themed. Large or palm-size, they tend to their surroundings with care and good spirit, and are often brightly colored, eye-catching things. This is your ‘Seelie’ group, for a real-world folklore equivalent.
Example concepts:
A fairy taming a grasshopper steed
A petal-winged rose fairy sleeping in a flower bud
A butterfly fairy collecting nectar
🏡 House Fairies
House fairies reside in and around the home. They are usually small, hiding from humans in nooks and crannies and forgotten places - and will get stuck between the couch cushions. They come out when the coast is clear to make mischief: rearranging trinkets, pilfering snacks, turning up the corners of carpets - all heinous behavior!
Their own dwellings are not to be trifled with, however. They’re of the utmost coziness, warm and safe and full of . . . ‘collected’ goods . . .
Example concepts:
A fairy facing off against a housecat
A fairy in their little home surrounded by myriad stolen trinkets
Fairies scheming to throw something nasty in a human’s stew
🕸️ Dark Fairies
Dark fairies dwell in the domains of shadow - in fairytales with unhappy endings, in childrens’ nightmares, under the surface both figuratively and literally speaking. They rejoice in sowing discord and causing mayhem, and shun the light. These are your ‘Unseelie’ equivalents.
Example concepts:
A murderous moth fairy poised to strike
A hag-like fairy offering a bargain one can’t refuse
A gaggle of tooth fairies
👑 Courtly Fairies
Courtly fairies are those who spend most of their time between lavish palace walls, voluntarily or otherwise. Towering spires, silkspun sheets, all wreathed in swirling gold filigree - a fairy court makes itself known for miles around. Most other fairies consider them the least carefree, though every once in a while a monarch does crop up who rules the land with wild abandon, whipping all fairykind into a frenzy for a decade or fifty.
As an aside: dark fairies enjoy courtly fairies as particular targets for their curses, twisting their beauty and opulence into ironic reflections.
Example concepts:
A cursed fairy monarch chained to their throne
A rogue fairy prince on the run
A fairy knight in beetle armor
🌆 City Fairies
City fairies have bid the splendors of the fey adieu for the neon-splashed fast lanes of a human metropolis. Usually, they try to (more or less) blend in, bask in humans’ energy, break their hearts and leave them wondering how you do that thing you do. Little city fairies exist, too, trying their best not to get crushed underfoot as they go about their busy lives!
Example concepts:
A raver fairy stealing the show in a color-soaked warehouse
A mundane-looking fairy creating otherworldly pastries with the help of some friends
A fairy guardian of some public property
🔥 Wyld Fairies
Wyld fairies are closest in essence to magic itself, to nature and those primordial forces they let flow through them: the elements. They eschew court-made laws, borders, customs, and causes, simply forging their own paths through life with little consideration of worldly issues. They are bright like fire, deep as water, free as the wind.
Example concepts:
A fairy fire dancer
A seahorse (or, ‘kelpie’) herding underwater-fairy
A fairy exploring the edge of the upper atmosphere

Okay, so I did say I’d go over Diana’s lore a bit (and then completely forgot, forgive me, Artfight got in the way)- so here’s some history (and a few visual notes) for my evil little Arty clone!
Before I explain Diana, I first have to give a brief reminder of another other AF OC: Sine Sylvester, Council member of Haven.
Tumblr media
This guy (wonderfully draw by the delightful @sinigangrobot , thank you so much my friend!)
Sine is a cervitaur, and generally well-liked by most in Haven. He’s made a big name for himself among circles of less “conventional” fairy folk (like other centaurs) in pioneering design/lawmaking in Haven that suits them as well. However, behind the scenes he’s also involved in illegal kidnapping of humans for aboveground for any purposes below, such as experimentation, weapons testing, labor, etc. You could say he runs “Human Resources” for Haven’s criminal underground… and occasionally, the Council.
Enter Artemis Fowl.
Sine exists in a hypothetical future AU in which Artemis is offered a position as the first human consultant for the Council- supposedly for services rendered, though mostly to keep an eye on him. Bureaucracy doesn’t suit Artemis at all, but he does what he can.
Eventually, two things happen- Sine digs up Foaly’s notes on cloning Artemis: a bit patchy, perhaps, but legible. Also, certain members of the Council become concerned about Artemis’s meddling. Eager for the opportunity to use the newfound research, Sine offers to make them a “backup” Artemis- one more suited to fairykind’s needs.
Sine has his own motivations- he’s in an interspecies marriage with a pixie doctor (in the “mad scientist” way, mind- she handles a lot of the human experimentation) named Mags. They love each other dearly, but understandably, a biological kid isn’t happening. So Diana, as they call the clone of Artemis they develop, becomes a son to them, and they love him fiercely… to the point of threatening the same Council members that commissioned him, if needed.
Diana is designed after how the People view Artemis- cunning, and cruel, and cold. He’s a vicious little guy, only tempered by his love for his parents, and the same burning curiosity as Artemis himself. Diana has a deep desire to learn and be recognized for his intellect- unfortunately for him, he spends most of his time cooped up in Sine’s HR facility for his own protection. See, Foaly’s notes had gaps- Sine and Mags filled these gaps with cybernetics. Because of them, Diana is hooked to the mainframe of Sine’s facility and all sorts of LEP systems to use as his playground (his parents’ attempts to make up for him being confined to the grounds)- laser turrets, survellience, his mother’s experiments… all of it is partially under his control, as Diana mans a lot of the facility’s defenses himself as a means of chasing off boredom. However, his cybernetics are also incredibly delicate, and cause him a lot of pain at times- whenever this happens, Sine takes the day off to look after him.
He, just like his father, considers humans to be lesser creatures. He’s not too pleased with his aboveground counterpart, refusing to acknowledge him as anything but “The Mud Boy”. Diana eagerly awaits the day they can meet in-person, so he can show him who the better Fowl is.
Other notes:
- Being raised in Haven and born of magic, he does have limited fairy abilities.
- Occasionally, he gets to follow Sine along and learn about Council business.
- Diana lacks Artemis’s focus, as he’s never had to cultivate it the way the Fowl heir has, so one of his weaknesses is that he’s easily distracted, and easily tricked.

Link: Hero of Fae
Tumblr media
Games/Adventures: The Legend of Zelda(tLOZ), the Adventure of Link(AOL)
Personality:
Fairy is incredibly energetic. He's young, curious, and brimming with excitement for this new world he's found himself in. He loves to wander and explore, and if he comes across a puzzle, then he has no problem taking as long as he has to to solve it. He has a deep love and appreciation for all living things and does his best to protect all forms of life.
As the son of a Great Fairy, he connects best with the Fae and Fairykind. He never learned to speak Hylian, and doesn't see the need to, as he usually has a translator.
Due to Fairy's energetic and youthful tendencies, the other members of the group view him as innocent and childish at times. He's usually happy staying that way, as he's not used to lots of attention.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Skills and Abilities:
Fairy mainly relies on his spells when it comes to fights. He has a small collection of items and weapons that come in handy when the situation calls for it, but for the most part, he relies on his magic and his wit.
He wields a pair of daggers in the shape of fairy wings, and they work well for close combat, but if the fight calls for it, the daggers can combine, turning into the Magic Sword.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Relationships:
Fairy is good natured and friendly towards everyone. He gets along well with the others, despite his occasional slip ups. He's playful and enjoys messing with the others.
His best friends out of the group would be Colors. He gets along with them very well and is one of the few members of the group that can tell them apart without being told first. He and Colors are almost always together, and often partner up with Wind to cause mischief.
Fairy also gets along well with Wild, Time, and Twilight. they'll often go exploring together. They all enjoy the silence of the wilderness, and all share an appreciation for nature.
Summary:
Overall, Fairy is a very kind and energetic young man. He loves the world around him, and will tirelessly fight on the side of life. He respects all living things and loves the company of his friends.

I've always kind of been annoyed at how Kendra Seth and Knox each get powers from different varieties of magical creatures (Kendra is Fairykind, Seth is a shadow charmer, Knox is a giant friend or something i forget what its called) but Tess is just has a worse version of Kendra's powers.
I think that was a bad decision on the author's part, and I think he might say, like, oh, it's because she has to be innocent (fairies aren't innocent, this was established in the first book), or it's because she really likes fairies. I get it, I loved fairies as a kid--i still do. and let me tell you, the kids who love fairies are 1) not innocent (blood and death were very prevalent whenever i played fairies) and 2) i literally don't care.
I honestly really liked when the fairies guided Tess to drink the milk, but that could have still happened without her becoming fairystruck.
In my opinion, it would have been much more compelling to have Tess be a dragon sibling.
Pros:
It would be a good way to put more dragons in Dragonwatch.
It would help make dragons as a species seem more like how they did in Fablehaven (the most humanlike of all magical creatures) instead of just the bad guys.
In chapter 16 of SotDS, Gavin says “the dragons adopted me as one of their own and shared some power with me. I can [speak] their languages. If dragons kill me they would be challenged as if they had slain a dragon. My status as a dragon brother even affects me physically—I’m a little stronger and [faster] than I look”. I don't know how much of this is actually true, considering Gavin wasn't actually a dragon brother, but, since nobody questioned him (and this is all fictional) I'm going to assume this is all true. This could add more to the story in many ways. 1st, Tess couldn't be killed by a dragon and would be extra strong and fast, but she would still be underestimated because she's 10 and wears fairy wings. 2nd, she would be great friends with Raxtus. There are probably other ways this could improve the story but I haven't read Dragonwatch in a while.
It would be fun to see Tess hanging out with big scary dragons and Knox, Newel, and Doren not really knowing what to do about it.
Tess would actually have something interesting to add to the story instead of just being brought around places for five books.
character development.
Cons:
Brandon mull would have to reread his books (this is only a con for him not anyone else. I'm only kind of joking here).
Sorry for going full on essay here (I’m lying I’m not sorry actually). If anyone who remembers more from Dragonwatch than I do thinks of any other pros or cons, I would love to know them!
